God I don’t ask for much.....

Alexa play Whitney Houston - I have nothing! My god I love this man...he completes me. Like whew this man is walking perfection. It’s been a long time since I have said a man is the prize but this man right here is top tier! He is the prize. He is everything. It’s at the point I’ll propose ! I’ll get down on one knee! Alexa play Kelly price he proposed to me! Right now! I’m risking it all for him! There is nothing this man can do that would have me turn my back on him! He tell me cut off my family I will! Tuh! This man ask me to jump. Ima ask him how high and where to?! This a good man! Usually I ain’t into sharing but ima let this man be shared in peace!

A new favorite!

There is nothing about this beautiful, complex, layered love story that screams first time author release! Claudette and Dominic's journey had me captivated from beginning to end! This was no hearts and flowers story, but it was one of accountability, redemption, and ownership of one's shortcomings. And in the end the act of just plain choosing to be better for the people you love! I now have a new edition to my one click author list! Rae Lyse you have a new supporter over here!

It's Nic & Clo' for me 😍

Saving Sunflower by Rae Lyse captured my attention from the very first page. This book was beautifully written, and I can’t wait to read more from this new author. I loved the way Nic and Clo’ relationship blossomed throughout the story. Also, this story was Everything to me personally for so many reasons. It feels like I know these characters. Especially, Dominic he reminds me of someone in my life in so many ways from the troubling life to the way he loves. Rae, I hope you will be dropping another book soon.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND READ THIS BOOK

I am completely blown away that this is the author’s first release. WHAT A DEBUT. I enjoyed this book from start to finish....I felt like I was watching a movie. It captivated my interest from cover to cover. I personally love a well-written slow burn. This book was just that. Character development and plot articulation were both superb. This book was very realistic. The setting, the vernacular, the dialogue, the story line, THE BOOK...it was all so captivating. I followed the author on every social media outlet because she has earned a new fan. She has a talented pen. I’m currently on a book high right now.

Bravo Bravo, just Awesome

Girl you did that. I love Dominic and Claudette story. I felt every emotion they felt. They had soul ties. Every woman have had a Dominic before. He changed for her and I am glad. You couldn't do nothing but love Claudette. I believe he first fell in love with her innocence, then her hair and naivety. I thought Autumn was acting so ugly at first, when she should have been there for her friend. I am glad she came around. You did that. I am waiting for your next story. Thank you for this story of LOVE and innocence😍😍

This story was EVERYTHING!

All I can say is WOW! This story was beautifully written and kept me engaged the entire time! First off, I love that it was a full length novel because it allowed the characters backstory to build them up! I gained a full understanding of each person and why they are the way they are. Second, the main characters were brilliant. They both had shortcomings but plenty of redeemable qualities that made you want to see them succeed. The love written between Nic and Clo was swoon worthy. Nic is definitely book bae material in every sense of the word, even when Nic messed up you still wanted him for Clo and that says a lot about his character. My heart ached for Nic and Clo was a beautiful soul that you just prayed he eventually did right by. The side characters development was great and I can't wait to read about the greatness in store for Jo! My only complaint is that I'm now obsessed with this couple and need a check in or I might die. 😆 (spoiler ahead) I was a little sad that they didn't get much time together towards the end because of his jail sentence and we only saw him be a dad for a few short pages. I'm hoping we get frequent updates in Jo's story but I feel like we need some closure on grown-up Dominic. Keeping my fingers crossed for a novelette in the future! It's been a long time since I've found a book this well written and I can't wait to see what else this author has to offer. If I could give more stars I would! Well done! 👏🏽👏🏽

Very Sweet Slow Burn

I’m not usually one for slow burns, but I wanted to read something that was as emotionally satisfying as Millie Belizaire’s Collide Series and her novel ‘fast’; ‘Saving Sunflower’ certainly didn’t disappoint. It’s both heart wrenching and hopeful. I absolutely loved Claudette and Dominic’s story. It was so loving and tender; they both deserved a lifetime of happiness, and I hope the author revisits them sometime in the future. I yearn to know what awaits them in the future and curious about the novel’s secondary characters like Autumn and Josiah. I think Rae Lyse has a lot of talent, and I am excited to see what she shares next. Definitely recommend if you’re in the mood for an angsty, emotional read.

Saving Sunflower

Sooo it took me awhile to start reading this and now that I am done I don't know why. This had me all over with my emotions but in the most satisfying way. It's like Claudette was crazy familiar like she was myself or my best friend. She wasn't anyone but herself because she never had to be anything else. She never has to play a role that wasn't naturally who she was. I think that is the one of the reasons Dominic fell for her and honestly she for him. Yes they both brought out different sides but all in all their was no trying to change who they were. The childhood they had molded them into what would be the best parts of them. I loved how that was displayed in this story. It was intense but interesting because they had never experienced anything like what they have. The other relationships that built and developed was really good seeing because it can be exactly like that. The person you love can never be stopped by anyone else's opinions!!!

Beautiful

Rae, my good sis this was amazinggg. I can’t even put it in too many words, but I am obsessed lol. I like that you made the story realistic, it was easy to connect with the characters. In the middle of reading, I had to just our right buy the book because I wanted to be able to reread forever lol. You have a new reader, I will definitely be on the lookout for other books you release. Oh and Dominic is bae and Claudette is my girl, I love their connection it feels like a genuine lasting love lol. This book was very much worth it!

First release

Many readers spoke of this book especially the fact that this book was the author's first release. It took me a while to get to it but I am glad I finally did. The story of Claudette and Dominic was beautifully written. It wasn't a story that you would expect but their individual struggles bring you immediately into their world. Their discovery of love, love for each other made this story worthwhile. Whew! There were a few issues I thought that should have been wrapped up like Marco, Tia, and even punk Eric but the author probably thought the story was long enough. On to the next book in the series.

The Sun and his Sunflower!

This was a really good debut novel. It’s a slow burn but Claudette and Dominic’s love story was everything. I’m a sucker for young wayward love so this was right up my alley. Dominic was flawed but beautiful. Claudette was green but dope and just what he needed. I hope to see more of their story in the future. I also really loved Josiah and I hope to see his story one day too. Great read.

Incredible

I’m a newbie to this writer and I started the book prior to reading the reviews. I am so glad I picked this book basically because of the title because I love sunflowers this book was incredible. I’m the girl that I always loved the thug and I love their ghetto love story and how her love changed him forever. I love how she connected with his family And never look down on anyone.

Not expecting that turn out

I have to start off by saying, I’ve had this book for a couple of months and within the time I only got to page 7. After focusing on this book alone, I regret that I didn’t read it sooner. Nic and Clo were both broken individuals needing to be put back together. My heart went out to both of them. Overall, this was a great read. Started off slow, but you know what people say ‘slow and steady wins the race’

A walk thru the sunflower fields

This was a beautiful story of love earned for 2 people who had love denied to them by the person that should have loved them without hesitation. They found that love love in each other. This was an emotional but very necessary roller coaster ride. Even though this was the authors first published work she released a more polished piece of art that is nothing short of amazing. Sorry it took me so long to enjoy this beautiful story.

Good read

I enjoyed this book and the story. The characters were done well and the storyline was good, but felt dragged out at times. I feel like this book is essentially a background on the characters for future parts in the series and tht excites me, so I am interested to see what, if anything, comes next for Nic and Clo’s family.

Speechless

Pure Authentic Genuine Unique Yesss! Are words that I have to describe the love between these to. Wow the way Rae Lyse describe their love. I held on to each word. Favorite book. Job well done Rae Lyse

More than I expected

Great Story.....Well written. I loved the complexities of the characters and the fact that everyone had layers. This wasn't a typical hood story and I appreciated that! Great Read!!

Love that it

Love this book, love the mean characters. You have your love story, drama, little bit of thug and real life problems. You will love this book, I recommend this book to read.

Nice Slow Burn

A nice slow burn. I appreciate detailed, full-length novels. Somehow, I started to lose some interest around part 3. Overall a satisfying read. I would read another by this author.

Imperfectly Perfect

I wasn't going to read this book and am glad that I picked it up again. The characters were raw and it shows you how struggle and poverty shape people. Yet, loyalty and love are unmatched. Enjoyed this book.

Captivating!

After reading this story, it’s hard to believe that this is a first time author! I’m looking forward to reading more of her work! I love a bad boy/good girl story, it touches my heart every single time.

Unexpected

When I first started reading this book I did not appreciate its greatness. I am so glad I stuck with it. Amazing story with amazing characters.

Great read

This book was so refreshing to read! The cover drew me to it, but the storyline it’s self was such an excellent read! I hope we get more of clo and nic soon, and I definitely be checking out for this author for future reads!

A great read

Really enjoyed this book! The story felt very real, they characters were so developed. I felt like I knew these people in real life. For a first time Author, this read as well if not better than some seasoned Authors. Keep doing, what you're doing. And hopefully a part two is in the works!

WoW! Just wow!

I have been feeling such melancholy after completing this book simply because I did not want it to end. Rae Lyse really spent time developing her characters to display relatable insecurities and everyday quirks that most of us experience. It was a PLEASURE to get to live in Dominic and Claudette's world. It was a pleasure to read such a beautiful and creative love story. 10/10! Amazing read! #BestSellerWorthy

Beautifully written

Absolutely love everything about this story. It was well written and flowed easily. Kudos Ms Rae. I can not wait to see whats next.

You my G

I really enjoyed this novel. I love the way Claudette and Dom's relationship blossomed from the beginning. I want to read more from this author.

Everything!!!

This story was everything it felt so real I couldn’t help but to go through the motions with them! Uncle George was everything and reminded me so much of my Papa who just passed in December! I’m headed to part two NOW..😂

Young love

Great book. Dominic and Claudette come from two different backgrounds and fall in love. I really liked their story. I found myself rooting for their happiness.

Wow

This was it man that’s all I gotta say. Don’t waste your time guessing read this book immediately you won’t regret it 🥺

Amazing Read!

This book was an absolute page turner. It captivated my attention and made me feel like the characters were real. Not only that, the storyline and development/cohesiveness were well thought out. I honestly didn’t want the story to end.

Refreshing Read

This book was amazing!!! The layers that are pulled back in this novel are so relatable!!!! I saw myself many times throughout this read!! Highly highly recommend!!

Fantastic

What a good debut. Rae is a fantastic writer. Loved this book

Pulled me in

Glad to have found this new author. I wasn't sure about the story at first but sure enough, it pulled me in. Looking forward to Book 2 in the series.

Excited for more!

This was a really good read. Once I got to the middle of the book, I could not stop reading. I would love a sequel to read more about Nic and Clo, and their parenting journey.

Excellent read!!

Definitely a page turner. Excellent storyline. I would definitely recommend the book to friends. I'm going to suggest this book for my book club.

Great book!

This story was so beautiful! I loved the characters and they were so easy to fall in love with. Overall this was an easy read and a great story!

Really good

This my first time reading anything by Rae Lyse and I truly enjoyed the characters and storylines. The characters were easy to follow and it was easy getting caught up in their worlds.

I loved it !!!!

This book was a page turner! I loved the characters so Buy it & stop reading the reviews so you can love it too!

There is such a things as too descriptive.

The story itself was very well written. No errors. Character development was good as well but I gave three stars because the pace of the story and the over detailing in EVERY scene was an issue for me. The pace was so slow. The same details about the characters and their surroundings ( her coils, her skin, his tattoos, the look of his house and room) were given over and over and over again. It became too redundant. It was the reason why I couldn’t connect with the characters. The tempo of the story was also very flat. There were no peaks in the story. I wasn’t as enthralled into the story as I would have like to been.

I don't know how I feel about this one

I really don't know how I feel about this one. I know that it is a clear interpretation of what happens in the lives of black and brown men. I missed the happily ever after ending. I am ok with, this is the ending for now, but..... I guess I did not enjoy the ending. I felt the main characters didn't get a chance to bond. The sexual tension was just ok. This journey was long and it really wasn't my cup of tea.

Not Relationship Goals

After seeing so many good reviews, I really wanted to read this book. The plot was decent and the writing is pretty good. I just couldn’t get into the main characters. Dominic is so damaged. He spent so much of the book manipulating this 18 year old girl all in the name of love. That really turned me off. Claudette toggled between being ridiculously naive and tough as nails. I didn’t find myself rooting for them as a couple. Their love story is incredibly dysfunctional. I’d sum it by saying that it wasn’t a good love story for me. I don’t care to read the second book. I wouldn’t discourage anyone from reading it if they’re a fan of street lit. I’ve just outgrown that genre.

Behind Every Man It's A Woman That Has His Heart!

Rae, this was one of the hardest book I've read in quite the while. I became so engaged with Dominic being such a young man that felt he had no direction, no purpose other than doing whatever he had to do in order to get money. I just wanted to give him a mother's love to let him know he was worthy to be loved, hugged, listened to. Dominic met a young lady that showed him he was worthy to be loved, he was so afraid to show emotions because his mother loved him as best as she could but she had her own demons she couldn't get rid of. Dom, took care of his mother to the best of his ability but life became to much for her and she decided that it was easier to just give up. Claudette was such a sweeet young lady that crossed paths with Dominic and neither one knew what was getting ready to happen. How many woman have loved a man that wasn't emotional, open, not being able to communicate? And fall in love with the potential of the man? Clo, fell for Dominic without even knowing what was going on, Dominic tried to stay away from her but she just stayed as she was and continued to break every barrier he had up. He just felt felt he wasn't good enough for her or anybody to love him. As it worked Clo was able to hone into Dominic's hobby which was rapping and help him see it was another way to get money other than being in the streets doing God knows what else. She along with a friend of his took his songs and made many of his records get a lot of play he never had anyone believe in him as she did. He realized he loved her and he still didn't trust the fact that he deserved her love. This was a great love story full of growth, forgiveness, and unconditional love. Great Read!!!

Love Triumphs

This book surprised me. I would say it's more on the urban side, but I enjoyed every minute of it. At first I couldn't stand Dominic, he just felt wild, irresponsible, aloof, and annoying. As the layers peeled back I realized he was just surviving the best way he knew how. He was definitely making some irresponsible decisions, trying to be responsible for those around him. In truth he was a stand up guy that didn't understand that he had other options. Along his journey into pursuing rap he inadvertently met a friend....Claudette. From the first day they met he realized she was a hustler, all legit though. She saved him from his own ignorance with knowledge she gained from one of her many hustles. After that he trusted her and had to keep her close. He was enamoured with her, but tried to keep her at arms length because he didn't feel worthy of being with her. Sweet Claudette was so innocent, naive, smart, beautiful inside and out. When Nic blew into her life like a hurricane she felt swept up in his storm instead of shielding herself from his storm. She was drawn to him, just as he was to her and it meant everything to her. I ain't gone hold y'all like this is a fairy tale love because it was not. Nic was deep in the streets and did not know any other way. Clo helped him with his music and tried to help him be more professional, but his past kept interfering with their future. There were a few times I was thinking run away hard and fast Clo, but she was loyal. Their childhoods were different, but the commonalities between them made it easy to understand why they were drawn to each other. As this friendship...as this love unfolded it was not traditional. It was hard, challenging, but so beautiful. Definitely worth a read.

Such a hidden gem 💎

Incredible job on this story!!! Initially I was intrigued by the cover and once I started reading I quickly realized that this would be a book that I could not put down. It truly is a gem and a darn good story! Dominic is an upcoming rapper and he just wants to provide for his aunt and cousin. Dominic is a very complex character but you can’t help but to love him. There is always a method to his madness. There was so many layers to him that when I thought I had him figured out he would reveal another part to himself. Dominic was the ultimate hustler, loyalty was everything to him, and he loved his Sunflower. Claudette is a college student; the good girl that you wouldn’t even expect to be with a rapper. She’s got her head on right and she’s a go-getter, it made sense for her to find her way into Dominic’s heart. Claudette’s friend was always in her ear about falling for Dominic and just putting all these negative vibes into the atmosphere but Claudette stood up to her friend and she earned my respect. Together, Claudette and Dominic was the dream team. They just meshed so well together and the chemistry was off the chart. I loved them together and literally they needed each other in so many ways. The author did such a good job on this story. It’s kind of a slow burn and at times dark but she draws the reader in from the beginning. It sometimes felt like I was watching a movie and I FELT everything that I was reading! I so loved this. Definitely would give 10 stars if I could! ❤️

O.M.G! WOW... this was .... I can be your G or any other letter you need me to be....⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First time reading this author and OMG! What did I just read? A masterpiece for sure... This author was so able to capture so many emotions and touched on several issues such as abandon, family, mental health, self esteem, incarceration, and selflessness of character. Claudette, baby you are the best female character in there and my second favorite female character read to date. You are strong, independent, beautiful and a gem. A gentle and beautiful soul. Dominic, my man...you are worthy, you are deserving, and if I could get me a Dominic I would take you in heartbeat without question. This story is about two people who didn’t think that they were worthy to be loved, to be cherished and no matter what bad situation they entertained or was part of, they always returned to one another and make the necessary changes needed for each other. Autumn was the worst friend ever as well as Mo while Eric needed to go sit somewhere and Jo was the bomb. Diane was not too bad and George was sweet while Polo was so wise it was nice for a change. What was the best in this story there was no cheating, no extras, no baby mama issues or baby daddy issues or all of the extras of being in the streets leaving in the hood brings you. It was just a fresh refreshing story of two young people dealing with the card that they were dealt with! I am definitely not stopping from reading more of this author and I sincerely hope that she has more banger like this under her belt!

Saving Sunflower

“You are the sun-at least to me you are.” “Saving Sunflower” is a love story featuring Dominic and Claudette. Dominic has one foot in the streets and one foot in the studio. Claudette is a college student just making her way through life. A chance encounter changes the course of their lives forever. Make no mistake about it, this is definitely a slow burn romance. Rae Lyse took her time intricately molding and building these characters from the ground up. The character development was excellent. They were very dimensional. They had depth. They were imperfectly perfect for one another. Although Clo and Nic are the main characters, the side characters also add so much to this story. From Diane to Autumn and Mo all the way down to Eric and everyone in-between, the cast of supporting characters were just as developed and needed as Clo and Nic. I loved how realistic “Saving Sunflower” was. It did not try to be anything that it was not. This story had pain, losses, and sacrifices but it also had love, wins, and salvation. I would have never guessed that this was Rae Lyse’s debut novel had I not known. I love her writing style and the way the story bounces between Dominic and Claudette’s perspectives. It was definitely an emotional read. Y’all know I had the Kleenex out! I know that these characters will stick with me for quite some time. I am looking forward to reading more from Rae Lyse in the future.

Real Love!!!

Claudette was a college student and Dominic was a hood boy who wanted to be a rapper. After meeting at Claudette job, and Claudette getting Dominic a gig at a club. This started what became Clo and Nic. Nic had a rough life gowing up and all he knew was how to survive, help others and being a wrapper, so Clo helped him with his career, Nicole didnt know how to take that. Clo and Nic feelings started to grow for each other and they both experienced a first with each other. Nic still living the street life, put himself and Clo in a situation that caused him to be away and Clo trying to figure out her true feelings for Nic. During the time apart, Clo found out a surprise she wasn't expecting and didn't know what to do. Nic had made some realizations in his life about Clo and himself and when he finally talked to her after being going for a month, he knew he needed to do better. This was a story of two people who went through the same things growing up, but ended up differently. Clo gave Nic what he was missing without even knowing it. The love that grew between them was beautiful to witness and I loved everything about them as a couple. I loved Nic and how he was with everyone important to him and making sure everyone was taken care of. This was my first read by this author and im excited to read book 2.

Nicely done!!!

Thank you for crafting a full story/ stand alone, almost forgot that they exist in urban fiction. I loved these characters! They were flawed, realistic and endearing -- I could not stop myself from cheering for them. It would have been nice to know how Mo, Nate and Dominic interacted post-release, but it was not necessary. The same with Autumn. Would have like to see some closure with Tia and Marco but again not necessary. Lastly would have loved to know more about how Josiah was navigating in school, especially with his big brother home – perhaps in another book? Really like your style of writing, how full bodied the characters are, and how you pull readers in… with watching/ reading how the two main characters fall in love. Keep them coming!!

Could have been better

This could have been a great story if there had been some growth. Dominic was his own worse enemy with his constant woe is me mentality, he stayed in pity party mode and instead of trying to better himself, he made bad decision after bad decision. Claudette was just young and naive, and a crybaby, I wish she had stuck to being a friend because his negative energy was draining. I wish young girls knew and understand you can't make someone want better, they have to want it for themself, you can be a friend even encourage them, but don't take on another person's personal baggage if they aren't trying to deal with it themself. I wish she thought more of herself and future and put herself first. Even in the end, nothing really changed besides the baby, hopefully he will be a better parent than his were. The story was also kind of dry for it to be so long, I skipped multiple chapters and didn't miss a thing, Dominics negative outlook and her crying naivety took over the point of the book. I just wish their was some personal growth and maturity.

Beautifully Written

The debut novel by Rae Lyse was excellent. I loved the storyline and the character development. The characters were flawed, realistic and endearing. This was not a fast paced story, it was detailed and interesting. I found myself not wanting to put the book down because I was so caught up with Dominic and Claudette‘s story. This book was well written and relatable. There was no glitz and glamour with these characters, the author showed the struggle to survive. These characters were broken and you see them navigate through life, dealing with the struggles of their upbringings. Although Dominic and Claudette were young, I often forget their age due to the things they had to deal with. I am hoping for a 2nd book as I felt I did not get closure with many things that happened in the book. For a first time Author, this read as well if not better than some seasoned Authors. I loved the author’s writing style and I will be on the look out for her work in the future.

Speechless!!

Have you ever read a book that you just didn’t want to end... well this is that book. I’m sad that it’s over because I just want it to go on and on and never end. I loved Claudette and Dominic so much and getting to experience them in-depth has been so surreal. I feel indebted to their lives and their stories. Rae definitely didn’t fall short of perfection when she wrote this book that is truly amazing. One of the greatest books I have read yet. I just didn’t just read this book I felt this book in my soul and it’s hard to get an experience like that from most authors but when you do it’s unfathomable. Ten stars all the way and very much deserving especially for a debut release. The only things that saddens me is that I will be chasing this book high and I know that there are not many that’s comparable. Loved it immensely and can’t wait to read what’s next

Dope Read

I rarely leave comments on books that I read, but this one I just had too. I honestly had my doubts about even finishing this story, I felt like it dragged out an took to long to get to the point of the story. I was really struggling lol like damn when I’m gone get some action. I honestly don’t feel like the story is over, I’d like to hear more from Nic && Clo.. maybe indulge in his music career, her finishing college, Jo being away in college.. Autumn finding someone to tie her down or even accomplishing her goal of being a kept woman lol. I’d like to see the look on Clo mother face so she can she what type of daughter she missed out on. I loved this story an id recommend it to anyone. I just feel a second part is needed or maybe it’s just me wanting a second part lol. If you haven’t already read this book I suggest you check it out an give it a chance, it’s honestly a dope read.

Good book

God placed people in certain places and in peoples live for a reason. God placed Claudette with Dominic. Which he had a complicated childhood. He learned to become a man at early age of 9 years old.when his mom Eve died and he had to fend for himself. By him living with his aunt allowed him to make choices either to do right or wrong. He chosen to go wrong and made a few mistakes. When he met Claudette, she showed him what true love , not judging his flaws and loyalty is about. It too. Nic a while to get it , he finally started praying 🙏 and believing God is Existing. God has given him another chance to make it right and to have a family of his own to love and that love him back. I’m proud of these two. Let’s see where his cousin Joshua is doing in the end game book. I hope there’s a part two to this book I really enjoyed it good read Miss Rae

Like a beautiful love song

I honestly don’t know how to start this review, but I will say Saving Sunflower is like a beautiful love song that you want to play over and over. This love story felt so authentic, sort of like watching a movie. I can appreciate how I felt every emotion of each character, down to Claudette‘s Grandfather and Dominics Aunt. When an author can make me “feel”, I always want more and although this was a complete novel and the author left no stone unturned, it was so well written my greediness didn’t want the story to be over once the last sentence ended. This story was beautifully written, the passion between Claudette and Dominic was palpable, they taught each other how to love, they were like unconditional love personified. No doubt this story will make its way to my 2021 list of favorite romance novels.

EXCELLENT

Rae Lyse has just made my favorite author list. Very well written, great character development and storyline. This story may have started out slow but I enjoyed every part of this book. You can't help but feel the layered complexities between these characters because it was so easy to relate to. We all have our flaws, but to see how Dominic and Claudette didn't allow their flaws to come between the connection they shared on a deeper level was beautiful. I loved how she pushed him to pursue his future career and how he never stopped her from getting an education. They were definitely opposites that were attracted to each other but overall the bond they shared didn't have to be explained. I would highly recommend reading this book.

Great message

There was so many recommendations for this book in my Facebook book club that I had no choice but to read it. Honestly I think the hype of the book built my expectation for it to be top tier remarkable and although good that’s just not what I got from this book. Do I recommend it yes it’s a good read. But it’s more new age younger urban fiction, meaning the younger reader in me would have rated this phenomenal. The adult me just finds it to be good and could possibly pass on the sequel. What was most definitely 5 star worthy was the message of this book. We all have trauma to unpack to some extent but how we heal from it correlates with our future not that it happened to us.

I get the hype

Dominic is in the street life, full stop. After a rough childhood in Cali, it seems like the route he was destined for. Claudette is trying to figure life and college out with just her best friend and grandpa. A chance meeting, speaking out of turn, and just enough naivete lead to a career and relationship that's hot and cold. Ugh, this was so good. It reminded me of how quickly one can get caught up in young love. Dominic took a chance trusting Claudette, and she took a chance by involving herself in his career. Although none of their friends supported the relationship, they had each other and that seemed to be enough. A slow burn, it took me a couple days before I could pick something else up.

My kind of down a** chick

As soon as the second of the series came out I hurriedly downloaded this because the rave reviews continued to pour in. I can definitely see why. Though urban hood is not my favorite, this had enough conceivable aspects of reality for me not to balk at some of the cliche situations. Clearly Dough needed to have the sit down when not only was there enough pressure on his neck to make a positive change but the right people in his corner to guide him through a path he couldn’t see for himself. So happy to read about a young woman naive to the streets, that falls madly in love, but realizes she didn’t have to be a down ass or pick up a glock or completely change her life goals just to keep her love.

Yeah This Is Amazing!

The writer gives us a story that pulls us into.A.web that is so intricately woven that you are caught before you even know. We get such a male hero character that plants himself and you hold on with everything. Dominic is a complicated character with so much on his shoulders that you wonder why he hasn't cracked or fallen. Then he meets his soulmate in Claudette and it is game on. The chemistry is practically burning the pages. You like this couple and you kind of relate to their feelings, problems and you feel the frustration. The writer gives such a developed story that you are just completely caught up.Win with this couple and fall in love with this story.

Ms. Lyse writes and I will read

Feeling this new author! She had a good blend of complex characters and a decent storyline. The slow burn in the beginning was amazing and pure satisfaction once the two lovebirds gave into their desires. I also liked the secondary characters to the point I wanted to know more about them but wasn't bummed I didn't get their whole story. It did get a bit groggy in the middle and it certainly could have given us a more full bodied ending with the reunion of the main couple but it was still a read I looked forward to picking up when I had to put it down. I will definitely read the next book from this writer and secretly hope the 3rd book is about Autumn & Mo.

These two...

I fell in love with the both of them. We start with a legit, sweet, good hearted girl. A girl who was naive and non-judgemental enough to befriend someone most people would cross the street to avoid. Dominic knew he and Claudette shouldn't even be acquaintances, let alone become good friends, but he couldn't help but be drawn to her innocence; something completely foreign to him. From the second they met, I loved the chemistry between them. Yes, they were as opposite as opposites can get, but they worked. Everything about the two of them together worked. I enjoyed their journey, hiccups and all. This was no short story, but I would have happily read a hundred more pages filled with these two characters.

Nic SHINED!

This book was good.... Like really good. Nic literally fell the moment he laid eyes on Clo. His story is that of many young black men. Expected to be a provider and a protector, the man of a house he wasn't given an option to reside in. Never given the necessary tools to be successful at either. A black man that has never had life spoken into him. He felt unworthy, undeserving of the very thing he spent majority of his life giving others; security. And then here comes Clo. The sun that broke through his clouds. Nic embodied the 'potential' women SHOULD invest in. The kind that loves and speaks with ACTION and GROWTH.

I Didn't Want it to End!!!

As others have said, this is a great debut novel! I went to her website and she mentioned her tough process with getting this book done. Trust...your labor was not in vain! I loved Dominic and Claudette's story. I felt so much pain for Dominic and loved the light that Clo brought to him. I loved how much they both loved on each other (whether they said it or not). I cried and smiled throughout this novel. I really hope that there is a book 2 because I did not want the story to end! I want to see Dominic as a legit rap artist to prove himself to himself (and Clo's grandad LOL), Clo as a college graduate and still his manager, Josiah as a professional football player WITH his degree, and Autumn as a powerhouse business woman (just because it's not what she thought she wanted LOL). I just feel like this story is not done!

Very Well Written

Not a new theme but Saving Sunflower has you invested in the characters and emotionally attached. So well written that Rae Lyse even captured the essence of Waffle house. That alone takes an amazing amount of skill to describe and bring alive. I am a new fan and look forward to reading more books. The best part? She described realities without losing the humanity in the tale and creating a caricature to sell. She didn't glamorize the lifestyle but kept it real. Only those that haven't grown up in the hood fantasize about living that type of way.Oh but Dominic? Fire. He is most definitely hero worthy.

Not your basic urban romance novel—the writing is phenomenal

This is one of the best novels I’ve read in years. If you’re looking for an urban hood love story with amazing dialogue that’s actually well-written—this is the book for you. I felt every emotion with this book. It’s beautifully written. Gritty. Pretty. Relatable. I cried at least four times and smiled much much more. The dialogue is realistic and on point. It’s NOT corny so many other urban novels. It’s not a good hood story but poorly written like so many other novels in this genre. Rae Lyse has a true talent and I can’t wait to read more from her.

I just can't

OMG. I mean like what did I just freaking read! This is nothing short of a masterpiece! From page one I was all in. When I tell you I didn't put my kindle down. I mean I DIDN'T PUT IT DOWN. I haven't sleep because I was so mesmerized by every like thing in this book. Nic and Clo was.... I just can't with them. I mean I was crying so much for them and their love. In a good way. They were each others air. I don't think a book in 2021 will top this one. I mean damn. I'm hands down a fan of Rae Lyse, her hands are blessed. Please don't sleep on this book. Literally lol click and read!!

AMAZING love story!

Wow! This tale was suck you in, can’t put down deliciously good! Absolutely loved this story about two broken souls being drawn to each other in such a powerful way that neither could let go. They made each other better and were good for each other despite the drama. Loved that Clo was about her business and was able to maintain that even when the going got rough. Nic’s struggle to evolve emotionally was real - and while his heart was in the right place, we saw the danger of poor execution. This was my first read from RL, I am a fan and eagerly look forward to more!

Beautiful

I started not to read this book, but the synopsis had me hooked. Certain books move my soul, are literally soul stirring because of the rawness that they portray and this is definitely one. This is my first read from Rae and it wont be my last, you have a fan for life. I rarely comment on a book; but it wouldnt be right if I didnt thank you for this. This was beyond beautiful. A love story that will speak to without even talking. If your thinking about reading this story; but wanted to read the reviews first. Read no further and just enjoy. Again thank you, some stories are meant to be told, a s this is a story that's meant to be read. I clo and nic, greatly done💕

Wow!

This is my favorite book so far this year! I’ve heard nothing but great things about this story and now I see what all the hype was about! I would describe this as more of slow burn romance. Amazing character development and storyline. The writer really took her time with developing Claudette and Dominic’s relationship. There was no girl meets boy, they fall in love, have sex, get married as we see in many romance stories. I feel like this book was a realistic portrayal of loving someone who is a street hustler like Dominic. It’s not all hearts and flowers. Claudette definitely went through a lot with Dominic but I admire her loyalty to him. She saw things in him that he couldn’t even acknowledge within himself! Amazing read! Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Did we become best friends?!

The cover grabbed me. I was perusing the Kindle offerings and this cover was like my catnip: beautiful body with no face. I downloaded it having no knowledge of the author and didn’t read the blurb. So totally blind. I was immediately all in after the first few sentences. I loved this writing style of third person, the setting of Atlanta, and the lengthiness of the book, and the characters. I just knew my friend wrote this book, because it was so much of what I enjoy. I’m looking forward to more from this author. This was great!

Intense!

Claudette and Dominic! Now that’s what I’m talking about. This author DELIVERT! Do you hear me?? She took her time and gave us all the feels. The feels that have your cheeks puffy from smiling so much without even realizing it at first. The development of each character was crucial to how the book flowed. This author didn’t just throw two people together and boom they go together. NO! They weren’t even suppose to be together but their souls matched. They both had come From broken backgrounds. Claudette a young college student working at a diner and having no one but her grandpa. Deceased father. Her mother didn’t want her. Dominic. He was a nurturer. All he knew was to take care of his family. First his mother at a young age up until her passing then His aunt and cousin. He relied on the streets that he just couldn’t escape. He felt like that was all he was good for until His Sunflower showed him that he didn’t have to feel unworthy of someone loving him and showing him his worth. Claudette saw something in his talent that he didn’t, and in the end help shape his affinity towards the fast money lifestyle or his talents. She took care of him in ways money never could! She took care of his mind, his body, and his BUSINESS! Showed him she wasn’t going to let the streets have him when his talents were enough to get him far away from them. This book had me thinking can two broken people heal each other? Or is the pain from past inflictions too much that they destroy each other? Or are they both hiding behind codependency? No healing. Just having each other. This book was the cutest. 🖤

Undesired Love

For a man like Dominic to never have experienced a beautiful love and to believe he wasn't worthy, he was truly blessed with an ordained love like no other. The author wrote this book with so much passion, it could be felt from every word! I have so much love and respect for "Nic"! Loyalty was definitely the glue that made them whole! So grateful she had his back, resulting in a blessing to their legacy from her determination, commitment, loyalty, and unconditional love for him. 🌻💯😍 I am so impressed with this author's work and I am looking forward to more of her work! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🎊🎉

One of the best

This is legit one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s incredibly well written, and the story of Dominic and Claudette is so beautiful and raw, it rivals the best “classic” romances, in my opinion. I waited awhile to review this book because it’s hard to fully describe how good this story is. I’ll put it this way: since I first read this book, I’ve gone back and reread it around 9 or 10 times (maybe more) - I legit reread this book at least once weekly. Saving Sunflower is about as perfect as a book can be. I highly recommend it.

2 Souls Finding Love

I believe this is the first book by Rae and it was definitely well written. Both Dominic and Claudette were broken in they’re own way stemming from their childhood when it came to their parents. But with the both of them meeting at the infamous Waffle House, I believe there was something that kept them connecting to one another although Dominic was much more closed off than Claudette. My FAV part of this entire book is when Diane knew that Claudette was always praying for Dominic. Although this book is long, it is such a great read!

Sunflowers have a new meaning

This book was recommended in a group I'm a part of and I'm so glad I decided to take part. This book was well written and refreshing. The slow build and details keeps you reading. It's the raw emotions from the characters that suck you in as you anticipate their next move. Dom and Clo were from two different worlds yet they got each other. The phrase "What understood doesn't have to be explained" fits perfectly. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

More than 5🌟!

This story is exceptionally good. The character development is rich with details. The storyline captivated my imagination throughout and most importantly, the hero and heroine tugged at my heart strings 🥰. I’m still a bit in shock that this is Rae’s first book but Rae DELIVERED in a major way! So major that I purchased the book after reading it on KU. Well done, Rae. I look forward to reading much more from you in the coming months and years.

I am runningggg to her second book!!!!

Saving sunflower is definitely in top 5 of my favorite books I’ve read in 2021. It’s something about an author being able to make you care about a fictional character. And Rae Lyse Executed that in the book. She wrote a very well developed characters that felt real and raw. She wrote about a love story that was REALISTIC, not black and white but gray. Dominic and Claudette meet each other and instantly develop a pure and genuine friendship. And the way that Lyse describes the friendship before they were romantic and after building this beautiful chemistry that made me root for not only their relationship but themselves and own happiness. It’s very seldom that I am convinced of love between two characters, but Ms. Lyse SOLD ME. In addition to the romance, the characters themselves felt like people you could know. Lyse didn’t rush their healing and she explained their brokenness in such a eloquent way making you feel their pain, almost shoving their feelings onto you. I feel in love with every character, their individual stories and personalities. Rae Lyseeeee!!! You did yo thang gurl!!!

Even when we're flawed and all

This story, this story is, this story took my breath away so many different times. How can you read and stop breathing then exhale because Nic didn't fade on Clo? Even when we're flawed and all it still takes the sun and flowers as one to grow. I wish this was a never ending series, like them 5 books cause this couple just make you greedy for more. Autumn gave too much advise period, friends need to know when to just shut up sometimes.

1st time reading this author, won't be the last!

I follow several author groups on social media and this title was mentioned heavy. I'm always will to give new authors a try and so I did and loved the story. Dominic was a complex young man however that didn't stop Claudette for falling hard for him even though her bestie tried to warn her. Well the warnings fell on death ears and now they're a family. I am already looking forward to reading more from this author.

Beautiful! Just Beautiful ❤️

What a beautiful and complicated story. My heart hurt for Dominic. There are so many of young brothers going through similar trials and tribulations. The Catch 22 of trauma and finding love after traumatic events. I had all the feels while reading this books. My young Queens are looking for their Dominics but they're more often the Tia's, Diane's, and Eve's in the story rarely a Claudette.

So many layers

I love books where the authors peel back the layers of the characters and give us a front row seat to their growth and healing. Dominic was definitely an enigma. His stubbornness and poor decision making drove me up the wall. Claudette was charming. The only thing that I did not like about this book was the pace. It just moved so slowly. However, Ms. Lyse is definitely a talented writer.

Well Written

Although, early 20something me was triggered by this whirlwind, fast paced love affair, I enjoyed it. It was relevant & made absolute sense within its fictional realm. Autumn got called a hater & could have been projecting , but sis dropped a lot of gems. Trauma bonding is common & not talked about enough. I wish it was tackled a tad more, however, it was just enough. First read from this author, will definitely be checking out other titles!

Beautifully written

I loved Nic and Clo's story. I was randomly looking for a good story to read and it was the cover that first drew my attention. Even better,, the story was beautifully written and just sucked me right in. Exactly what I wanted. They had happy moments, struggles, challenges, sad moments and growth as individuals and I felt like I was right there with them. I wished the ending was developed a little more but that might just be me not wanting the story to end. I immediately went to look for the next book by this author and realized this is the first book. Will be keeping my eye open for this author's new works. Loved it.

Wow. So so GOOD!

This book flowed so good from beginning to the end. I loved everything about this. Dominic rugged and passionate personality. Claudette nurturing and vibrant spirit. They were perfect for each other... literally perfect. I felt so many emotions while reading this. Nic & Clo. My favorite Sun & Sunflower. So good omg! I can’t wait to read what’s next! Hopefully something including JO. 💖

This was a good read

Well written and plausible, my two favorite things while reading a story. The chemistry between Dominic and Claudette is infectious. Sometimes it only takes a chance encounter or a event to change someone's life. That's what happened when Dominic meets Claudette. The author tells a story of love, loyalty, relationships, heartache and victory. Can't wait to see what is next in this series.

Loved it

I didn't want it to be over ...... This was truly a good book , Nic was a complex character who went through a lot of trauma as a child. But Claudette (Sunflower) literally change his life had him feelings things he never once thought he deserved. Soul ties ate real and can be a wonderful thing when its with the right person. I loved this book and can't wait for more.

Nik😍😍

There's so many things that could be said about this book that I don't even know where to start. It was so well written that I felt like I was right there with the characters. Nik and Clo were opposites but just what each other needed. I was hooked from the very first page. If I could give this more stars I would. Read it! I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

This is a must read!!!!!!!

Wow what a great book. Sooooo happy I came across it. You have a new fan. Pros- writing, storyline, everything was great! Cons- that ending ughhh you left me wanting more and I hate that. Please bring them back I want more I want to see where they are from here. Are they married, successful, more kids.... more!! Other than that this was so bomb!!!!! Loved it!!!

Why did I wait!?!

This book is a non stop, page turning journey of lo e, loss, friendship and family. I was so engrossed in the lives of the characters that I could hardly read fast enough to find out what happened next. I don't know why I waited so long to read this book, but you definitely shouldn't. Amazingly written and I look forward to reading more from this author!!

Very Good Read

I enjoyed this book because it gave alot of details on each character, so much that I felt I knew them. Dominic seemed more mature for his age and Claudette very sheltered. The book is a little long, but not boring. I would definetly read this book again. Would be nice to get a spin off on Claudette's friend Autum...she has a story to be told.

Breath of Fresh Air

New author on the scene!! Awesome read, just what was needed during this year. Modern day love story, college girl meets rapper who turns her world upside down. I enjoyed reading the intricate details of both Dominic and Claudette’s background. It made you understand the pull they had towards each other. I really hope there will be a follow up to their story.

Beautiful

That raspy voice and those wild curls had Dominic smitten right away. His quiet intensity and a plethora of tattoos had her swooning. Their love and journey was simply uncontrollable and inevitable. An unlikely pair that will hook you immediately in this stunning debut by Rae Lyse. It was a beautiful love story. We all can't wait for more...

Loving Sunflower

Saving Sunflower is an awesome read and I’m so impressed with this author and the quality of writing that was displayed. They deserve and earned these five stars. I felt every emotion Dominic and Claudette displayed, my heart cried when they cried and it smiled at their triumphs. I’m looking forward to many more great reads from this author.

Blown away

WOW just WOW!!! This book brought so much out for me as a reader. Having a new author that was able to develop the characters the Rae did was amazing. Love in the purest amongst 2 young lovers. Navigating in life when the 2 most important people just up and leave willingly. Man this book was every freaking thing. Just when I tried to retire my cougar clothe!!

Feels like the sun.

This is hands down probably going to be one of the best books I read in 2021. Rae Lyse style of writing is wonderful. It's just the right amount of everything and she shows things so beautifully that you feel like you're right in the scene. I loved this book from page one to the end and I'm so ready for more!! Dough is a whole bae !!

Great book

This was such a great angst filled story. I love how Claudette was the naive innocent good girl and Dominic was the tortured bad boy. Opposites attract and they were perfect for each other. As hard as Dominic tried to fight it, Claudette wore him down without even trying. I can’t believe this is the authors first book, the writing was superb.

The tears

This book...I just don't know what to say. Had me crying at work, frustrated and in love with these characters. It was just phenomenal. I mean, absolutely breathtaking. I couldn't have imagined a story better told than this one. Perfection. Thank u for this. U have stolen my heart with these characters. U have a fan for life

Unexpected

I have been stuck with readers' block for a while before this book. I didn't expect much from it since it seems like everyone is using the same outline for their books. This book was different unexpected even and so good. I enjoyed every page and I am notorious for skipping through books. I would give it 10 stars if I could.

Saving Sunflower- 5Stars

Whew!!! Saving Sunflower gave me chills. Dominic, what a man broken but still a man. I love Dominic and Claudette's story. I felt every emotion they felt, my heart cried and cheered for them. I love how they loved one another. I loved Claudette, her innocence, and the love she had for Dominic. The book was awesome!!!

I'm a new fan

This book was so good!! I hope its a continuation of their journey, career and relationship wise. I see the next book is about Jo... I'm curious if these books are standalones tbh. I hope not lmao I'm not done with Clo and Nic tbh. Such a good book. Several typos and it got repetitive at some point but overall I'm happy.

Everything!!!

This book was everything!! It was open, loving, brokenness, maturity, family, friendship, redemption, highs, lows, expectations, naivete and family. I enjoyed the development of the characters throughout the book. Dominic was a non-traditional man that owned up to all of his faults and responsibilities. Claudette grew up fast due to her circumstances and her family was better for it. I can't wait to see what's next!

Bravo!!👏🏾👏🏾 🙌🏾💜

Bravo!! Saving Sunflower made this author an instant favorite from the first page. It was so beautifully written. I felt every emotion..all of them! I loved Nic and Clo’s journey and the development of the characters throughout the story. Can’t wait to see what’s next from Rae but she has a fan for life from me💜💜

A Fight for Love

I love reading new authors and falling in love with their work. I recommend to read this story, and not pass it by. Once I started reading the story of Clo and Nic I couldn't stop reading. I read the story in 2 days. I was pulled in and was anxious for the ending. I love when women hold their man down and Clo did just that. The good, bad, ugly and LOVE. You never know who you will fall in love with and grab a hold of your heart to never let go. Nic had Clo's heart and had a journey to discover what love meant and to accept. Rae Lyse a wonderful job of pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard. Keep the stories coming. I'm looking forward to the next story.

Superb!!!!!

I kept reading and hoping this love story never needed.... Rae your writing was a breath of fresh air...Quality...... Dominic and Claudette were us untraditional couple. Young, carefree and both scared to love... This story is book club worthy 100xs.... I hope you get some many reviews its on best sellers list!

Loved!!!

Chile, I dont know whats gotten into me but I seem to have little patience when reading books, I keep wanting to get to the part where they fall in love get married and have kids. But, Rae said no let me build the story, and I loved every bit of it. Claudy, got on my nerves a few times but she's my girl for life

2-days later, still happy for main characters!

I LOVE reading a book that makes me really think about how the main characters seem so real. Their environment, upbringing, mannerisms and actions line up in a way that makes me check myself after I’ve finished reading the book...They’re not real!! In spite of some, well many of Nic’s actions I rooted for him to pull through. I still think Clo will have a lot more growing into fully-grown woman status, but that’s another book maybe. Overall, I’d been looking for a good romance novel in which the main characters’ development would resonate with me in the end and Sunflower did this for me, hands down!

Exceptional

This book was everything! such a connection between two lost souls trying to live life and recover from unknown challenges. Only the strong survive. No matter how detailed we plan our lives, God always has the final word. I could not put this book down. Rae Lyse you did an exceptional job. Thank you.

Really Good Read

I found this on a new release list and I have to say it was great. The progression of the relationship between clo and Nic was awesome to read. They had so much stacked against them self inflicted and outside sources but they made it through. This was just really good read looking forwad to seeing what's next for this author.

Wooooow

I never thought that I would be calling a book beautiful, and yet here we are! That's the only way to be able to describe this book is beautiful because oh my goodness the way it was written was just breathtaking! I hope we get a book about Autumn because I would definitely love to read about her

So good

I've been in search of a good book such as this for months now and I am so glad that someone recommended this book to me. I cannot wait to read this author's next book. I can already tell she is going to become one of my favorites I love her writing style and the complexity of her characters.

Omg... you...did...your...thangggg

Omg this book was soooooooooooo refreshing!! Not your typical thug that's super ignorant bs. Like It was realistic and you can feel the characters energy!!! Girrrrrrrrrrllllllllllllllll you did your thing with this one!!! Woosh!!!! I'm ready for my SUN OK!!! You've gained a new fan!!! Yessss!!

Just Wow!

This book was good from beginning to end. I truly enjoyed following Dominic’s and Claudette’s journey. Just a beautifully written story. I was a tad bit annoyed with Autumn inserting her opinion on Claudette’s relationship all the time. Anyway....definitely a great read!

One Of The Best Books I Read This Year

This book was sooooo good. I felt the love between Claudette and Dominic. She showed Nic what love is. Claudette believed in Nic career so much. This book was so emotional. This is my first time reading a book by this author. I can't wait to read more books by her.💜💜💜😊😊

What a beautiful read

I feel honored actually to have had the privilege of reading Dominic and Claudette’s journey to love. The impact that they had on one another was beautiful. They come from two unlikely backgrounds and made something similar to magic happen. Please read it. Definitely worth it.

Awesome read

Very real authentic and completely addictive. I couldn't put in down once I got into it, though it would be typical young reckless love but it was far from it! Dominic was so mature and broken which made him so lovable! My first book by this author but not my last.

5 stars!

This is good debut novel for this author. The relationship between Claudette and Dominic definitely took me for a ride but left me emotionally fulfilled with their journey. Like I said this was a great debut for this author and I’m ready for book two in this series.

Get. It. Now.

I love reading. Have read 140 books this year. Stumbled across this and I CANT WAIT FOR HER TO WRITE ANOTHER. This book was everything. I mean...this is easily top 10 books this year and I read some good stuff. Get it and read it! Will not regret! Go now. Get it.

This is it!!

This is the best book I've read in a long time! Rae Lyse is a writer!! She isn't just an author, but a really good storyteller! I loved her writing style, her characters, and everything about this book! She's a new favorite author for me. Great job Rae!!

Outstanding

Captivating and wonderfully intriguing with raw emotions and truth. I was blown away by how the author was able to capture every thought, action and emotion. Most of the time, I thought I was in the same room as the characters. Unforgettable story!

A lovely read!

Its not too often that I find a story that I can lose myself in. I was so engrossed from the first page. I love the love between Claudette and Dominic. Was happy to see them get over their communication hurdle. So sad to see this story end. Thank you!

Everything & More

I was having a hard time finishing books and after seeing this book posted in ALL my reading groups new I had to give it a try. The story flowed effortlessly and kept my attention right to the very end. Great character and plot development. This is a must read. Looking forward to more stories from Rae!

Great Read !

Saving Sunflowers was a great read . Clo’ and Nic’s love story was beautiful. Although it involved twists, turns, ups, downs, the normalcies of relationships it withstood the tests of “loyalty”. The characters, the storyline, and even the ending was great!

Oooh weee that was amazing!

I haven’t worked, parented, or been a wife all day. I started reading this book at this morning and finished at 230 am. It was so good. The characters and stories were engaging, well developed. At one point I forgot I didn’t really know these people.

Not an easy love

Their love wasn't easy or perfect (whose is, right?), but it was hard-won. It was well-deserved. I don't think I've rooted for a couple like I did Dominic and Claudette in a long time. I was glad there was a chapter after *the end*. I needed that closure.

Sunflower

First time reading this author..My fav Author said she read it...This was deep on so many levels...If you haven’t walked in Claudette or Dominic’s shoes, you wouldn’t understand the struggle...Awesome job...Now I will impatiently wait for part 2..

Loved It!

This book was exceptionally well written and edited! I loved the storyline and wish there was more of Dominic and Claudette's story. It kinda ended abruptly in my opinion. I know an author did a great job when I want more from the characters! This book was suggested to me from a FB book club that I'm in and I'm so glad I read it.

Loved It!!! 💥💥💥

I loved me some Nic & Clo!! The relationship they had, how they rode for each other, the love they had for each other. This book was so good! Nic was a complicated man, but Clo just got him & him her. They're probably one of my favorite couples. I can't wait to see what's next from this author

Soulmates

This was a great story. I just love reading about flawed characters and their backgrounds. This book had me wanting to pray for this lost girl and this guy who has the odds stacked against him. I am telling everyone I know about this book!

Just wow

The best book I’ve read in a long time. This book have everything that I love in it, the character development, the emotional and complexities of each character. This was just phenomenal, I can’t wait to explore more of this authors work.

So good

This book was really good. I liked how Clo was able to connect with Domonic. They got their communication under control and then they were good to go. It's a beautiful love story. Opposites really do attract. It closed beautifully

🌻

This book was amazing. I’m so happy Claudy swooped in and melted Nic’s hardened heart. They both had a parent who abandoned them but the love they had for each other brought them closer. I know Nic got Evie and Claudy always 💕

Amazingly Wonderful

This book has ever element of an almost forbidden love story. An opposites attract love. Nic is everything even when he didn't know he was and Clo saw that. Nuture is the first word I think of if I had to describe the feeling of this book. The power of nurturing.

Must Read!!

From book from this author and she started with a bang!!! I won’t give anything away but this book was amazing! I laughed, I cried & I didn’t want it to end. From beginning to end an amazing read! Thank you Keisha Ervin for the recommendation

Broken souls

A great story of broken souls and unexpected love. I truly understood Dominic's struggle, of trying to get ahead while trying to provide for his family. I don't think his aunt even realized the role she played in his struggle. The author did a great job of telling this story. Can't wait to see what other stories will be a part of this series.

READ! READ! READ!

I agree with Sherrita Smith when she stated, "A nice slow burn. I appreciate detailed, full-length novels." This book kept me turning page after page. I stayed up all night reading this book and it was worth every minute.

So Different Yet So Good

I was looking for something to read and this book was suggested. Could not believe what I stumbled across. From beginning to end this book was so good and I couldn’t put it down. Now I have to find more from this author.

Great Story

Heard another author talk about this book and had to read it. I’m glad I did. What a great story about young love. Clo truly saved Nic. Regardless of what others thought they loved each other. Highly recommend this book.

Nice surprise

This is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. At times I found myself holding my breath and other times trying not to cry. The rawness of the book is amazing. The story was so unpredictable. So glad I found this author!

🗣It’s The sun and his sunflower for me 💕

From the beginning I was hooked! It so well written and so detailed and it all come together! Baby clo and nic both evolved so beautifully ...I love me some nic tho he stood on what he said and did what he had to... I can’t believe this is her first book I can’t wait for more from her!!! Definitely need a hard copy most definitely a favorite 💕

Addictive from Start to Finish

I could NOT stop reading this book. It is a page turner. It has the nostalgic elements of the classic favorites like Flyy Girl while holding and maintaining it's own lane with a modern twist. It felt familiar and real. The characters are relatable and you become invested in their life. Amazing read

Good Read

This is my first time reading Ms Lyse work but I'm looking forward to my next read from her. Pick up and read this one! It is not shallow, with lots of depths, color and life in the characters. I have found a new storyteller.

I loved these two.

This was a great read. I know it says Sun Series but I can't tell if it will be continuation or a series of standalones. I don't know if I could take the heartbreak of something disrupting this sweet tormented couple who have finally found happiness.

Sooo good!

Wow! That was such a good read. Like on some real life type of stuff. Dominic was the truth and Claudeete was everything! This is definitely a must read. It takes you through it but you'll get there lol. Good read!

Great read

I absolutely loved this book it was such a well put story line. I do hope theirs more In store for this new family. I want George to come around and Autumn to let go of her hurt and maybe find someone for herself. I adore nic and clo relationship.

LOVE IT!!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!! I love how raw the emotions were and how in tuned Nic and Clo was with each other. She taught him how to love and know he was deserving of it no matter his circumstances. They were perfect for each other. I really hated how Autum was always talking crazy to her about her man, i get you are concerned but at the end of the day it’s not your life. I wish it was an update on them , loved them so much!!

Sunflower & Nic

What a beautifully written story! This is one of the best books I've read in a while. Rae has this amazing ability to take pain, anguish, fear and love and have it translate beautifully into a story. Both parts were of this series were amazing. I'd recommend and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Good read

I just really enjoyed the love between Nic and Clo, while everybody else thought wrong about them. I loved Clo shy, but don’t push me attitude and Nic take care attitude. Look forward to your next book.

Great read

This book was definitely a five-star book. I enjoyed reading it and I am looking forward to reading the next series. I don't want to spoil it for the readers by telling them some parts. All im going to say is team Clo &Nic

Sweet and Gritty

Loved the journey of Sunflower and Nic. The two didn't appear to mesh but belonged together as soulmates. The story showed a classic case of opposites attract. Would love to hear more of their story.

Loved

I absolutely enjoyed this story. I like this author's writing style. I loved the realness of Dominc and Claudette's relationship. I would of liked to see more of them together, but overall good read.

Nothing short from amazing

This is my first time reading from this author and I truly was captured in her creative penmanship. I truly felt the pain from Dominic as well as Claudette. I love how much their bond was, how much love that had for each other. Keep it Ms. Rae 💛

Omg

This was so good, not a story to rush and read bc you just have to soak it all in . This book had me crying lol. It was just good and I can't wait to read part 2 . This is a 10 star read hands down

Added to my favorites!

This book was so good. Had me all in my feelings and blushing. I truly believe you never know what a person has been through so don’t be so quick to judge. I can’t wait to read more about these characters.

I honestly am speechless

Dominic and Clo were the best love story I’ve read yet. To witness two broken people find each other and allow their souls to connect is just breathtaking. I will never forget these two. This book is worth way more then 5 stars❤️

Great read

If this is this author's first novel, she certainly knocked it out the park. IT was well written, interesting plot and good character development. I'm curious to find out what their future holds and hope there's a sequel in the works?

Great love story

Opposites attract Dominic and Claudette fell in love without even knowing I laughed, cried got mad and sad I enjoyed this thoroughly can't wait to see what's next for them so I'm on to book two.

This was very refreshing

I was in a book drought and I needed this book. It was a refreshing read for the new year. It gave me hope for new beginnings. Keep up the good work I look forward to you sharing more of your craft.

Intriguing

I loved this book! I love how it started out slow!! The main characters were so different but good for each other. Claudette is so loving. Autumn was getting on my last nerve! Excellent read!!

So many feelings

This book was so well written. So many emotions between these two different but same broken spirited people. It gave me closure while also still wanting more. It will definitely be something I will read again.

Absolutely loved this story.

I love Dominic and Claudette. Their story was electric. The passion Nic felt for Clo was believable even though it happened lightning fast. This author is new to me, but I'll definitely be looking for more.

Loved it !!!

I loved how Claudette and Dominic evolved as friends and then a couple and finally a family. She was truly his best friend and never judged him. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more from this author.

Very interesting!

This was such a great read. I loved how Claudette pulled out the best in Dominic. She was a true rider! She never gave up on him! First time reading this author, won't be the last!

Why I never read one of your books I don't know. I mean it was so goood. I wanted more of a better ending but overall loved it. I hope you have a big catalog cause I'm on it.

wow

ok i’ve heard so much good stuff about this book and i finally got a opportunity to read it. the complex and realistic characters are what makes this book intriguing. a great read

Just Awesome!!

I absolutely love a love story where love catches you off guard and you’re completely thrown off by the way you feel. You do things you’ve never done as it feels right no matter how “wrong” it may be! I love nic and clo they are polar opposite but that fit like glue!!! Awesome job!!

AWESOME!

Deep....Emotional....Edgy...Love Story..... This was a very Special read. Dominic and Claudette represents true Soul ties and Connections. This couple was the epitome of " I have your back and I'll be there"....A Beautiful Must Read Story!

Good book

This was good book. My 1st time reading this author and she did not disappoint. I enjoyed their story and the things they had to deal with. They were cute together.

Slow burn

Slow burn read to savor. Dominic and Sunflower 🌻 came from 2 different worlds yet were more similar in life’s losses than what was immediately apparent. Great read.

Love this book..

I need more of this couple.... this book was amazing. I I really enjoyed reading this authors work. This was my first book from this author, but won't be my last.

Can’t lie

I can’t even lie. It took me a while to get into this book! I kept picking it up and putting it down. Until finally I could get into it! It ended up being a great read

Awesome Read

This book was so good and kept my attention, from beginning to end. Dominic and Claudette were both broken but found unconditional love in each other.

❤️❤️

Beautifully written story. I felt connected to these characters and their emotions. The chemistry was exciting and explosive. Love is complex but powerful in all ways

Awww Sunflower 🌻

Two broken souls....Nic needed Clo and Clo needed Nic! Love will always win in the end. Great read and I’m so excited to read the next installment of the Sun Series

Breath of fresh air

I enjoyed everything about this book. I was able to understand the characters and their experiences. I've just added Miss Rae to my top ten. Good job!

Excellent read

This may be the only book I have even read in this genre with super regular people. I absolutely loved it. It was relatable but I think most women(especially black women) know a dude, dated a dude even married a dude with a lil dough in them. I really look forward to reading more from this author.

Sunflower and G

I enjoyed this book alot, even though sometimes I wanted to strangle the two main characters. I definitely wouldn't have minded if the story was longer or had a pt.2

My Sunflower

This a kute book. They say two broken people can't fix each other I say they can. Sometimes when U not looking for love. It creeps up on U when U least expect. Dom had a support team the whole time but blocked it out due to childhood trauma. But U can always break the cycle

Just... WOW!!

I absolutely LOVED this book! Even though I have mixed feelings about the main characters, Claudette and Dominic stole my heart. I can’t wait to read more books from this author!

💜💜💜

Omg I enjoyed this story so much! I was sad to see this come to an end! If you’re looking for a good love story this is a book to read

So good! I’d re-read it.

I’ve never read anything by the author before, but this was written beautifully. I loved the story line, the characters, the struggle, the hope, and fulfillment. Amazing book, and writing.

Wow

When souls tie. I loved to read the bond and the growth of the relationship between Claudette and Dominic. She was what he didn't think he needed.

They needed each other.

Both broken for different but relatable reasons. Found so much strength in each other. This was a very touching story of young love.
