Number Two: Sailor Mercury!
*EDIT* Removing a star from my original rating due to the fact that I have found several grammatical/spelling errors throughout the series. This is #2/12 of the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon manga (graphic novels) series. It comes exactly as described. This one has Eternal Sailor Mercury on the cover and contains a few colored pages right at the beginning. The manga is in English. At the end there are a few pages in Japanese as a preview for the next volume. Very beautiful.
Even better than the first volume.
I'm finally getting around to collecting volumes 2-5, and this is where the manga really starts to rock; at least until Chibiusa shows up (I like her but I think that the Black Moon and Infinity arcs are better in the anime). I reread the the first volume after watching Sailor Moon Crystal (which is very good), and while I still loved it I must confess it was definitely not as good as the anime, but this is where the manga really gives the anime a run for its money. The plot never lets up, and it's quite dark at some points. I will admit that I do think it could have more comedy, and at this point the only character we really get to know apart from Usagi and Mamoru is Minako. It's because of those points that I prefer the anime; but this is still an awesome volume that every Moonie should have in their collection.
Buy It, You Know You Want To
These manga are so so so cute, and so sweet. They're fantastic to get for yourself if you're already a fan, or looking to get into Sailor Moon and they're fantastic gifts. I just love them!
Totally recommended!
I have been Sailormoon fan for so many years (since 6th grade until now - I'm 28), and had a chance to read various online scanlations, official translation book (previous published Sailormoon by Tokyo Pop if I'm not wrong), and to be honest, I was not so happy with the way they changed the name and the way people call each other in the original Japanese version. It caused me confusion and indeed left me a feeling that the translation didn't convey what the Japanese version meant. And when I ordered this book, I was a little bit worried if I'm wasting my time again. However, it proved itself. I'm completely satisfied with the way it was translated (especially with the fact that it keeps Usagi-chan or replaced by a bunny face (cute! :)), not Serena or whatsoever), the paper quality is amazing (3-4 pages in color art - so beautiful!) and there are even pages in the end explaining details on events, places, terms or some Japanese jokes to help the reader understand the story and the background better. What else to say? Totally recommended for new reader (trust me, the story is way much better than the anime - in case you saw the anime and became an anti fan) and must-have for hard core fan. Can't wait to order the rest of the collection! :)Keep up the good job, publisher!
Manga > Anime
If you’ve watched either iteration of the anime, do yourself a favor and read the manga. SO much better.
Pretty good but
The only thing i kind of dislike is the pacing. I feel like the issues the sailor squad face are over as fast as they start. Even major plot points or "twists" just kind of happen with less exciting build up.
Great
The sailor moon comics add so much more depth and emotion than for sailor moon fans who are only familiar with the cartoon. I had a certain impression of sailor moon from the cartoon, but this is so different. Every page is really jam packed with background texture and patterns and cuteness. I recommend it
Amazing Manga!
I feel this is a great manga. If you have not read Sailor Moon 1, I would start there, as this really adds to the story and character development. The artwork in this volume was beautiful, and despite the complaints about translation issues, a few things were awkward but except for the most hard-core fans I don't think this takes away from such a beautiful work. The story is fun but keeps you engaged, and the larger print format adds to the overall appeal of the manga itself. New readers will really love this manga, and long-time fans should be able to enjoy it as well despite a few sticking points with the dialog
Horrible packaging :(
I love the manga, but it wasn't packaged well and it arrived with multiple pages folded :(
Great reading for my granddaughter
My granddaughter loves reading this series and I continue to buy new copies for her.

A traveling Moonie's BFF
I love SM and this was the best way to read it physically. A lot of times, I can't read anything online (company rules) so this works well for my hour breaks and when I'm traveling. I can't wait to buy the rest.....

Classic Sailor Moon manga
The book is well put together and my pre-teen is enjoying reading this series. If they are reading the manga post-viewing the US version of the television series there may be some confusion from time to time. The characters names are different and the book is read right to left, back to front.
BRILLIANT BOOK
This book has a brilliant storyline, brilliant drawings, let me just simplify: everything about the book is brilliant. Plus, it isn't exactly the same as the anime so if you've seen the anime you still won't know exactly what will happen. I noticed a lot of people are complaning about the translating, I had no problem with the translation, it flowed just fine to me, what the characters said sounded good, I had no problem with the translation at all. Except for when Sailor Moon said "what'll should I do" haha, that was the only mistake I picked up on, but overall I loved the translation. I would deffinatley recomend this comic book.
Happy granddaughter. Happy life
Came so quickly
Bought these for our granddaughter and she loves them.

Granddaughter Loves The Sailor Moon Character And Asked For This One As A Birthday Present
Purchased this as a gift for our soon to be teenager Granddaughter. She loves these books and the characters in them and had this on her list of things she was hoping to receive for her upcoming birthday. We are sure she will pleased.
Exactly what I ordered
Just what expected, perfect!

A must for any Sailor Moon fan
This second volume of Sailor Moon is just as great as the first. I did have an issue with some of the pages and being too close to the inside of the book so you had to spread the book pretty wide to read what Usagi was saying. Also, I am not sure why Kodansha decided to use A "bunny" for "Bunny" instead of "Usagi". I suppose it was to save space? It was just awkward seeing a little bunny head in place of her name. Kudos to them for translating! Though, it is also odd that Usagi's dad would say, "...Say, Mother?" "What is it, Father?" They had names, didn't they? But hey, oh well. This volume continues the story right where it left off and even includes a few extra pages of Naoko's early concept artwork! The art is as always, amazingly beautiful and is a great read. A must have for any Sailor Moon fan!
Great books
My daughter ❤s these books
A classic reborn
Though the series is over two decades old, it is one of the best stories ever told. It is about a group of teenage girls who find themselves with special powers, which are needed to combat a force that threatens the entire planet, and eventually the entire universe. They must balance saving the world with their other lives, or else risk failing middle school and being grounded! This classic series is is a must have for any manga collector.
Honestly one of the best manga I've ever read
Honestly one of the best manga I've ever read, & actually my first to ever read. I originally read the series that came out in the 90s & when I saw that they came out with the new covers & colored artwork I just had to get these. Definitely reccomend to any Moonie!
This volume has some great Usagi and Mamoru moments.

Tween Nostalgia
I absolutely loved Sailor Moon when I was a tween. I really loved the cartoon when it used to come on Cartoon Network. I never had the money at the age to buy the manga comics but as an adult I do have the luxury. I'm very happy with this and cannot wait to get the next volumes!
good book!
Well printed pages, just what is expected.
Fun!
My girl love this story so much!
Recently my old love of the series was refreshed and I decided to ...
I used to watch Sailor Moon as a little girl. I'm a huge fan. Recently my old love of the series was refreshed and I decided to read the comic of it. I have yet to disappointed.
Love the cover(s), can't wait to get them all!
Slowly trying to collect all of them before I start reading it. Of course, what with the new anime set to be released soon, and the old anime being re-run, it might be a long time before I get the chance. I'm sure I will enjoy them though.
Happy
I'm totally glad. It's completely impossible to have any manga of Sailor Moon and Sailor V in my country (for some strange and stupid reason) and I'm a big big fan, I'm happy to finally have this colection. The book is taller than I thought and has a few color pages.
Feelings about book
It gets in depth with the story and the seriousness of the situation the heroes face
Nice!
I really liked how it came in! No damage or anything, came in good condition! The manga art is pretty, too.
Great manga but I have green line on the inner colored drawing Ami
Manga nicely but released the first color image of Ami (no cover) has a thin green dash in the middle, so everybody has? Well, these blank pages at the end.Manga somewhat refreshed - electronic equipment. In Poland, we were issued with japanese manga translations of names since around 1997, moreover, in the anime, too, had japanese names. But I happy because a new edition; is a bit refreshed, nice cover and I still have great affection for this manga. I ask Amazon about it and I have bad luck with these green line so I can return and have new one.I wait for new SM vol 2.
For all Moonies!
I watched the anime when I was younger and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to own and read the manga! The cover and inner artwork is beautiful! Admittedly, Volume 2 is my absolute favorite with my favorite Sailor on the cover.
Love! <3
I've been waiting so long to have all the Sailormoon manga, now my dream can come true!! The book is amazing, great colored paged at the beginning. If you're used to the anime version of the series, reading this is a great way to learn what the story started as.
Perfect
Came in perfect condition:)
Nostalgia is over 9000.
I love the mangas; the TV show was awesome but sometimes Sailor Moons voice made me want to die inside. The mangas were always my favorite, and I hope Serenas voice is less annoying in the new series in July <3
Sailor moon book
Thank you so much for my book. This will be a Christmas present
Fan of story however some mistakes made
I'm one of the people that pre-ordered this 2 months in advance and had to discipline myself not to read it until after I opened it for Christmas. While I enjoyed the story some of the pages were a little faded like the ink needed to be changed when they printed but they still used the pages. I also had a slight crease on the back cover which I didn't understand being that I pre-ordered it new. I also caught a few mistakes with the typing like rice rice ball which I think, knowing Japanese is just rice ball, as well as another near the end. Besides that I really want to preorder the rest, I just hope there's no other problems with the printing!
Read it!!
Even though it took me a while to finally order it, I'm glad I did. Came when estimated, and looks great! Crisp and clean, I can't wait to read it! I got the 1st one a little over a year ago, so I'm excited!! In the name of the Moon, READ SAILOR MOON 1 and 2!!
As described!
Came as described, thank you!

Good
A good story
Excellent
This volume keeps telling the story of Usagi and Mamo Chan, also the explanation of the silver moon kingdom. You will find it entertaining. If you read the first vlume you will want to get this one too.
Finally
I have been waiting years to purchase English translated Sailor Moon manga again. Not disappointed! Will be purchasing the rest. Arrived in excellent condition but I wish it had been packed with a little more care in the box, otherwise it might have been damaged. But thankfully, it wasn't.
Wonderful!
I bought this a long time ago and I am just now reviewing. I love this series and this is a great continuation of the first volume. No problems with the print inside the book and a must buy for anyone who loves Sailor Moon!!
More of the same excellence
Sailor Moon Vol. 2 picks up where volume 1 leaves off. The Sailor Senshi (scouts) currently consist of Sailor Moon, Mars, Mercury and Jupiter, and Tuxedo Mask has revealed that he knows who Sailor Moon's real identity is. Tuxedo Mask in turn, is very obvious about who he is in his everyday life and it is with many sighs of relief on my part that he uses the nickname 'Usako', with Usagi in turn deciding on his nickname as well. The relationship between Usagi and Mamoru continues to evolve in this volume as well, being much more the focus, while Usagi's relationship to her senshi is much more assumed. Vol. 2 also brings us Sailor V - aka Sailor Venus, and the identity of the Moon Princess. Much about the senshi's previous life is revealed in this volume, filling in a few of the gaps to the story. Vol. 2 keeps a quirk of the Japanese volumes of using a bunny in place of Usagi's name - this is aptly fitting if one remembers that Usagi means 'rabbit' in Japanese. While at first a bit odd, it is easy to pick up and run with.
Perfect
There are no words to express how happy I was when I received this copy of the Sailor Moon Reprint. It was like a dream to me, have it in my hands. Thank you, it IS perfect!
Greattt
So most of my sailor moon manga purchases are from amazon and I've only been disappointed once! This book is great and not overpriced like it usually is at the bookstore. Happy purchase happy customer!!!
love it
I absolutely love this series! It's one of my favorites! Only a few pages were printed in color, the rest was all black and white.
Awesome
First of all I have to say that the quality of the manga is just amazing. The work is beautiful, and it even comes with about four pages of color. The amazing re-translation of the manga gave it more sense. No more 'Bunny' as the name. I hated that when the manga was first released. But now with it's new re-release it's better and greater than ever. If you're a Sailor Moon fan then you'll love this manga.

A gift for my niece
This book was requested by my 11 year old niece for Christmas. The book was in great condition when it arrived.
can't wait for the next volume! :)
I'm loving the story more and more! The translations are getting better, it's not perfect, but it doesn't ruin the flow of the book! :) I love how Usagi and Mamoru's relationship started to grow and the chemistry is amazing! All the scouts finally reunite and things become more intense when Queen Beryl---well, I don't want to spoil the whole story for you. I've watched the anime and read the manga way back in my middle school years and I still enjoy the story! :) I already preordered volume three and I can't wait!!

Sailor Moon Volume 2
This second volume of Sailor Moon had me super excited because I've been waiting for re-releases for years since the Tokyopop mangas disappointed me with their translation. However it seems Kodansha isn't spell checking or checking grammar before sending these out. At one point Usagi says "What'll should I do." However, this is really the only problem with them this time around. The use of their Japanese names is wonderful since the English names made me want to gag every time I read them. Overall Sailor Moon Volume 2 is worth the price, especially if you're like me and are a huge Sailor Moon fan.
SM2
If you are a lover of Sailor Moon then this is a must have. The translation is good and the book is put together very well. A good investment.
This new updated print of Sailor Moon is great. The new translation makes it far more entertaining ...

Love it!
Love it!

I loved the show so i decided to get the mangas. i cant wait for it to get here. <3
Sailor Moon is Back!
This is my favorite manga/anime series of all time. To see it straight from Kodansha without any of the weird Americanized filter from the last run is very refreshing.
Happy that Sailor Moon is Back!
I love Sailor Moon! It was my first Anime and my favorite manga. I have read TokyoPop's translation online(which in some ways pretty good and to me has tons of flaws). As other people have pointed there are still some flaws in this round of publishing Sailor Moon, but I honesty don't care about them. I'm just happy to have the manga back, and hopefully the anime! Well if the anime doesn't come back, it's not that bad. I'm happy with the manga being back. I just can't wait for the next Sailor Moon to come out!! I really want some of the other characters to be introduce already!!! That's really the only thing making me crazy.
Finally here
came quickly and daughter loved it
sailor moon
Naoko Takeuchi is the best mangaka ever, Sailor moon is the inspiration for all the new shojo mangas. This Manga is perfect, in this volume we can see the amazing sailor v joining the group of senshis, it's amazing.
Loved it!
I received this book very quick! I was very thrilled about that. The quality that it was in was also very pleasing! It was practically new.
Beautiful!
Came in perfect condition and absolutely stunning cover color! I cannot wait until I complete the whole series for the second time in my life!
Good.
I liked it. It was very entertaining. It was well worth the money. It's nice with new translations and prints.
OMG
Is perfect for fans of Sailor Moon i Love it!!! (y hacen entregas a México!!! Totalmente seguro!!!) I wait for the Next releases!!
Great follow up volume!
Kukuku! This volume really surprised me! Especially the relationships between Usagi and Mamoru (Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask). Takeuchi did a wonderful job of making me feel for these two in such a short amount of time. Especially, once the all the scouts finally meet up—SailorV finally comes in. The whole Princess of the Moon was handled very well, and if the art for the missing princess had been a bit more vague I think it could have almost fooled readers. Make that a really big almost. Ok. No the readers would have never been fooled. Still it's the thought that counts. The art is still gorgeous and the color pages are so pleasing! Ah, they're fantastic. It all goes together well with the memory reveals, and the origin story. Mythology! Yes, thank you! (It was sorely missing from the anime.) The tragic past of Prince Endymion and Princess Serenity is the right kind of tragedy and melodrama I love. Especially when there's plenty of sweet notes to make my cynical heart go all "ahhhhhhhhh!" It can be argued that this volume still has it's "monster of the week plot". Let's be honest most super hero/fighting manga do. This time around Takeuchi does a wonderful job with volume two and lifts it up from the last volume’s cheesier standardized monster of the week fodder. Even more I enjoyed the gem stone guys—as I fondly call the guys named after rocks—when their twist came up. Which I wasn't expecting, but wish it could have been explored more! There was a hint of a lost love with Sailor Venus that is just begging to be realized! It's a official I'm hooked! Volume 2 is a great indicator of how this series can grow. Usagi has already grown so much, but what I love is that deep down she's still the fun and lazy person she was before. She's just growing up. More growth on the other scouts would be the cherry on top, but there's still plenty of time for that. The funny thing is that harsh manga judge inside of me wants to give this series a lower rating, but I've been converted. Especially since Sailor Moon gets to save damsel Tuxedo Mask as well as be saved sometimes. It's official the manga is working for me, when the anime couldn't. (I lied, I mentioned the anime.) Sexual Content: Some kissing not much else. Clean! 4/5- Great! Really enjoyed it. Orginally reviewed at Book Whispers.
Another amazing volume of Sailor Moon! ^_^
This is the 2nd (or 4th book if you count the 2 Sailor V volumes that were released before the actual manga started getting published lol) but anyways it takes off right where volume one left off so I would, of course start there if you are new to the series. If you have not read the newly re-translated sailor moon yet then you are missing out!!! It very accurate all-around to the original Japanese version & all the names were kept the same as well ^_^ I won't go into the synopsis of the series since I'm sure you know all about that haha ;-p I would also recommend getting the boxsets that have 6 books each in them since you save money that way & get a nice collectors box to store them in, but the singles volumes are just as good minus the box & stickers included lol :-) If you are a fan of sailor moon or magical girl/adventure series you will not regret checking out the sailor moon manga the way it was meant to be read!
Love This Series!
It's been so long since I've seen Sailor Moon! I used to love it as a kid, so reading the manga was almost like stepping back in time for me, and I loved it, too. Volume two pushes the story along further, and I have to say that I liked it over the first volume (though the first was good of course). Fans of science-fiction will love it especially, since it has a sci-fi air to it, though there is also a nice romantic touch for lovers of romance -- and this is a sweet romance, which makes it even better. I give vol. two of Pretty Guardian: Sailor Moon a five of five stars. I love the continuation of the story, the art is gorgeous, and the new edition is wonderfully put together. This is a definite recommend for fans of the series -- and if you've never read a manga before, I'd start with this one, because chances are you will become a fan! Super SM fan
I have waited SO long to read the Sailor Moon mangas , I do own the Japanese but was unable to read them. If you're thinking this is like the anime, you'd only be partially right. There are many differences. Original names are used, Mamoru isn't a college student! so their relationship makes a lot more sense. Each of their outfits have something special (making them more unique besides color) and there's no fillers! The pace did move a little fast but it would seem fast considering how many episode fillers have been removed. 40some episodes (season 1) condensed into (originally 4.5 now, 2.5 mangas). All 200 episodes will be put into about 12 manga all together. If you're a Sailor Moon fan, haven't watched the original Japanese and wish to know the REAL story, then read this series.
Fantastic story, but bad translating
I've been a HUGE 'Moonie' (sailor moon fan) for so long. I have eagerly awaited the manga returning and this time in ENGLISH! Which excited me. The art on this series is simply beautiful. It catches the eye and is very tastefully done. The books themselves are very thick with wonderful illustrations by Naoko (GODDESS!) The way Sailor Mercury looks on this cover is so striking. The water droplets are so gorgeous and the Chibi Sailor Mercury on the back cover is a really nice touch! Very 'Sailor Moon Channel'! It's not the story itself that is bad, it is the translating of words that simply confuse me and sound effects that make no sense at all! I'm not too knowledgeable of Japanese 'honorific's' and what they are, but how the characters talk to each other does not seem logical in any way to me in most of the story. It is better than the first book, but just not enough. I also am sick of the printing issues. I had no missing pages, but the ink in my book was incredibly LIGHT in parts which made it hard to read and which reminded me of the bad photocopying jobs they did when I was at school to save money...
So much fun!
I'll admit that this is one of my favorite parts of the series for reasons I can't really divulge due to spoiler reasons. (There's got to be at least 4-5 people who haven't seen the anime or read the Wikipedia synopsis.) I'm going to review this in two parts: the artwork and the story. First the artwork: It's gorgeous. This is a pivotal time in the series, so the artwork gets both dreamy and serious accordingly. The splash pages at the beginning of the manga really are fun to look at. A great addition at the end of the manga was the inclusion of several character designs for both Usagi (one being a slightly different haircut!) as well as uniform designs. The sailor fuku uniform wasn't the first choice- there were several different ideas, ranging from skimpy armor to long sleeved sailor suits. I have to say, they made the right choice in the long run. Story-wise, this was awesome. I loved it. There's still an element of playfulness to this volume but overall the tone here is serious. The romance in this volume is also excellent and I couldn't help but love the finding of the silver crystal. (My favorite part in this arc.) Overall you can tell that this volume was very lovingly put together by Kodansha. It was clearly designed with the Sailor Moon fanbase in mind, which I whole heartedly appreciate. The translations are also a little easier to read this time around, something that tripped me up in the first volume. This is absolutely a must buy for manga collectors.
It just keeps getting better!
When I found out that they were re-releasing the Sailor Moon manga with new, more accurate translations, I was beyond excited. As a long time Sailor Moon fan, when I opened up this manga, I was not disappointed. This series is a thousand times better than the original. The story line stays more true and is definitely for an older audience than the original United States series. Its a little darker with more mature themes but still the great characters I've known and loved most of my life. Worth the money! If you're a Sailor Moon fan, look up "Sailor Moon Forever!" on Facebook. Its a group of fans discussing the new manga, sharing pictures, and keeping up to date on the new anime series coming out in 2013!
Better than the first one!
This volume was a little better than the first one. I love the art style and the translation isn't bad. I will continue reading, even though I don't have the nostalgia that most people have with this series.
Sailor Moon volume 2! One of my favorite volumes so far:)
This has got to be one of my favorite volumes so far because it has some of my favorite stories in here that I loved when I was a kid. I remember these stories as plain as day. Felt like a little kid again. Glad to see they are fixing the translations:) It does show that they care. I just find it funny that as I am re-reading the manga I am finding myself liking the anime more than the manga when I used to like the manga more than the anime when I was younger. Here is why. One of the things that bug me is that these girls are only thirteen or fourteen in middle school, but they do not act like it because they are way too serious in the manga. They act like they are seventeen or eighteen years old. Now, I will say that I am glad that Usagi doesn't act like such a ditz in the manga as she does in the anime, but in the anime yes she acts like a ditz but there is times where she does act serious in the anime which I like because there is more of a personality balance. Another thing that bugs me is that the romance develops way too fast in the manga. At least in the anime, I like how Mamoru and Usagi don't get along at first then they fall in love. Plus there was a build up towards their romance. One of the things I wished they did in the anime was how everyone thinks that Sailor V is the princess and not Usagi. Also, I love how more of the Senshi's past is revealed in the manga:) I definitely recommend volume 2 though! It is a great read.
Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Renewal Edition Volume 2
This volume was great and filled with unexpected twists that keep the readers interest. I especially enjoyed Act 7 and getting to see more interaction between Usagi & Mamoru. I am really looking forward to the next volume! Contains Acts 7 - 11 Act 07: Mamoru Chiba, Tuxedo Mask Act 08: Minako, Sailor V Act 09: Serenity, Princess Act 10: Moon Act 11: Reunion, Endymion
I'm A TEEN Again!
I fell in love with everything having to do with Sailor Moon in 1998, I was barely a teenager at the time and it's something I have always LOVED! Ever since then! The people that did this revamped, reprint of the series did a beautiful job. If you collect the original manga series (like me) you will notice that there are a few differences, but OVERALL it's still the same AWESOME story we ALL love and it has been TOO fun revisiting these wonderful characters and sharing them with a whole new generation of manga fans and Moon fans! LONG LIVE Sailor Moon! God bless her and all of the people who made this possible and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have! ~ CEA
Sailor Moon 2
Sailor Moon 2 is the second part in the Sailor Moon series. The identity of Tuxedo Mask has been revealed and how will Sailor Moon deal with her feelings towards him. Also a fifth unknown guardian has appeared. Who is she? And how can she aid Sailor Moon in her fight against the powers of evil? The illustrations are great and the story is a definite page turner. I really enjoyed it. Highly recommended indeed. 5/5.
Sailor Moon re-release vol. 2
I don't know why I thought that this wasn't going to be as good as the original but it sure is! the new cover is beautiful, the first few pages are in color and add a nice touch ^^ highly recommended to any and all Sailor Moon fans! (Amazon's price is also great, the cheapest I've seen anywhere even with shipping)
Eh...
The artwork is very beautiful, and this manga is a classic...but I hate Usagi's character. She is becoming increasingly dependent on Tuxedo Mask, the romance is going WAY to fast, and none of the other Sailors have any character development. We barely get to know them. I love the artwork, and I will continue reading the series, but Usagi is a bad heroine. Buy Codename Sailor V, because Minako Aino is such a great role model! She never relies on any man, and even though she is boy crazy, she can take care of herself and she strives to be stronger emotionally and physically. No guy can keep her crying for long.
Things just get much more interesting, the story starts to pick up.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon's translated Kodansha version has its flaws but aside from that the story is excellent, the artwork looks a lot different, and better, very sleek Print of Eternal Sailor Mercury. Nothing wrong with it and it has a great presentation. No spoilers intended.
Great re-translating
It was an ambitious task to re-release these titles, but all of the books were great. I enjoyed this one especially. The translation was done well and all the pages look really great
SUPER CUTE!
This new version is completely PERFECT! The quality of the paper is so good and translation is very NICE. LOVED IT!!
Flows more naturally now that minor translation issues from vol 1 were fixed
This volume of Sailor Moon really finds its voice i feel. The first volume i had minor problems with the translation and of the names "princess' and the use of "bro' . This volume they seem to have worked out those translational issue and now it flows more naturally. Definitely thankful for that.
????
Ok Im only writing this cause I have a couple of questions. 1- why is mercury wearing the eternal scout outfit on the cover? 2- I don't remember the originals being bad, where they? No matter what though I love sailor moon and have for the better part of the past 10 years, I believe its a must for any girl.
Missing Content & Princess Beryl, Queen of the Dark Kingdom
Does this second volume of the Sailor Moon manga improve on the first? Ask Princess Beryl, Queen of Dark Kingdom. Presentation Visually this English language release of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon #2 looks fantastic. Like the first volume, it's quite a bit bigger than the original Japanese release though the artwork doesn't suffer at all and is actually easier to appreciate in this size format (which is the typical size for an English manga). The cover also looks better with this release with the shiny cover really helping the colours pop a lot more than the original. Somewhere where this volume improves on over the first is in the lettering. Almost immediately I notice just how much better the dialogue and sound effects looked. The choice of fonts is much more varied and appropriate here compared to the first volume whose lettering fell flat and looked rushed. A look at the back credits confirms that a new letterer was indeed hired. Here's hoping they keep this one for future volumes. Where the presentation fails a bit is in the half translated "Concept Art Exhibition" and several blank pages towards the end of the book which I will go further into detail about when talking about the adaption in general. PRESENTATION: 4.5/5 Story The story in this volume really impresses. Not only do we get the arrival of Sailor Venus (making this a great manga to read right after the second volume of Codename Sailor V) but we're also shown the awakening of the Moon Princess, Tuxedo Mask's brainwashing and Queen Beryl's confrontation (in person!) with Sailor Moon and the other Sailor Guardians. The plot flows very quickly which is sure to please those fans of the Sailor Moon anime who disliked all those filler episodes and we're given some very cool moments with Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask as well as Sailor Venus. Sailor Mars and the others don't seem to get that much time in this volume but this first arc is very much about Sailor Moon and readers should be pleased to know that they're given a lot more individual attention as the manga progresses. STORY: 5/5 Adaption I was really hoping that this volume would improve on the numerous issues I had concerning the translation in the first volume but unfortunately things haven't really gotten any better at all. There still remains quite a bit of very awkwardly phrased dialogue throughout the volume that constantly took me out of the reading experience and made several characters either fall flat or act like someone else completely. A good example of this is Usagi's parents who are supposed to be two regular loving parents in the original version who now come across as two very posh upper-class individuals thanks to Kodansha's English translation that has them say lines like "...Say, Mother?" and "Yes father?" when talking to each other. Much like Usagi's "Oh honestly!" in the first volume, this is one of many instances where a quick translation was chosen over one that maintains the characterisation and energy of the original script. What's more, there's several instances of just plain strange translation choices being made that change the meaning slightly or are just completely wrong as seen on page 230 with Queen Beryl introducing herself as "Princess Beryl. Queen of the Dark Kingdom!!" which makes absolutely no sense at all and is especially odd since Beryl doesn't say anything about any princess at all in the original Japanese panel. Even the most loyal Kodansha fans will have a hard time defending this goof. This volume also has issues with translation consistency concerning signs and sound effects with half of them getting romanised Japanese script while the rest get translated into English ones (more often than not, strange sound effects at that) depending on the panel you're reading. Apparently fans want "Pyuun" left as is while "Dokin" should be translated as "B-BMP". Where the translation begins to look really rushed (as if it didn't already) is in the bonus sketches at the rear of the volume. For some reason Kodansha decided to translate the bonus sketches in the first volume of Sailor V but felt it was only worth translating the titles here. This is a big let down for fans as the notes are actually quite interesting for those curious about the character designs. As if to add salt to the wound, Kodansha has also chosen to completely exclude the two pages of bonus comics that Naoko drew especially for the Sailor Moon manga re-release. These humorous strips portrayed Naoko as a bunny and thanked fans for buying the re-released manga and provided some really fascinating insight into both creating the manga when it was first released and fixing it for this new release. There really is no excuse for not including this material, especially when Kodansha has gone on record as saying that these new versions will include everything that was in the original Japanese re-release. Something else worth mentioning is the several blank pages at the back of the manga that could have possibly been meant for the missing comic strips but due to their placement after the preview for volume 3, were most likely going to include the usual full Sailor Moon manga series advertisement. Either way it definitely looks like further proof that this release was both rushed and badly planned. For a full list of the translation/adaption issues in this volume, Google "Sailor Moon Manga Mistakes". ADAPTION: 1/5 Overall Score For Sailor Moon fans who have yet to read the manga, I still recommend picking this up as the story is intact and is absolutely worth your time if you're a fan. It's important to keep in mind though that this is anything but a perfect release with characters not really coming across the same as they do in the original and is missing content that was printed with the Japanese re-release. OVERALL SCORE: 1/5
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Vol. 2 review
Much like I wrote about my review for the first volume the use of their Japanese names instead of their English names was dumb. This volume actually goes from bad to worst. Now for some reason they are using "Bunny" as Serena's name. (WHY?!?!?) I'm not kidding they put a bunny picture for her name and I'm assuming that's what it's stands for Bunny. Of course I could be wrong it could mean "Usagi" but I mean when you look at it you automatically think "rabbit" or "bunny" so disappointed in that change again in the main characters name. Also it looks like there is an error in the translation as Mina is suppose to be in her first year of middle school instead of her second year, unless that means there's some unexplained or dropped information during the translation because if you read the final Codename: Sailor V Vol. 2 she's still in her first year. So there's pretty much a lot of errors and disappointments to me. But other then that it's okay.
<3
The book came alright,, Right size and everything,:)I hope this works for you,, the book is actually good n fun to read.
Great condition
Great condition
Sailor Moon Vol. 2 (Sailor Moon (Kodansha))
Purchased for a friend and her daughter really liked it.
Lovely!
Really pretty and perfect condition.
Disappointing
I was very disappointed with this book. Sailor Moon TV series are so vibrant, full of color, life and inspiration. Unfortunately this edition is very boring and flat and quality of the paper is very law for the price.
Lovely to look at
My daughter loves it. These mangas are lovely to look at and beautifully made. I almost kept them for myself.
