Running for My Life is not a story about Africa or track and field athletics. It is about outrunning the devil and achieving the impossible faith, diligence, and the desire to give back. It is the American dream come true and a stark reminder that saving one can help to save thousands more.
Lopez Lomong chronicles his inspiring ascent from a barefoot lost boy of the Sudanese Civil War to a Nike sponsored athlete on the US Olympic Team. Though most of us fall somewhere between the catastrophic lows and dizzying highs of Lomong's incredible life, every reader will find in his story the human spark to pursue dreams that might seem unthinkable, even from circumstances that might appear hopeless.
"Lopez Lomong's story is one of true inspiration. His life is a story of courage, hard work, never giving up, and having hope where there is hopelessness all around. Lopez is a true role model." ?MICHAEL JOHNSON, Olympic Gold Medalist
"This true story of a Sudanese child refugee who became an Olympic star is powerful proof that God gives hope to the hopeless and shines a light in the darkest places. Don't be surprised if after reading this incredible tale, you find yourself mysteriously drawn to run alongside him." ?RICHARD STEARNS, president, World Vision US and author of THe Hole in Our Gospel

Read This - And You Won't Believe How RICH You Are Right Now
If, after reading the first one-fifth of this book, you don't feel incredibly RICH, then you probably weren't paying attention. Lopepe (the author) has such a work ethic and indomitable spirit and joy in life, you can't help but be inspired by him and his story. All of us should read this book, and take from it a major lesson in how to adjust our own lives, how to dream, how to work, how to set a goal and build our own determination to reach it, regardless of obstacles or hardships. I promise, after reading even the first part of this book, you will think twice before you complain about something as inconsequential as someone getting your parking space or the fast food server forgetting your "no mustard" instruction for your hamburger.
I can no longer complain about the unfairness in life!
It's been a long time since I've read a memoir that choked me up like "Running for My Life" by Lopez Lomong. When he was six, Lomong was ripped from his mother's arms by rebel soldiers in South Sudan. He was held in captivity in harsh conditions until he could be trained as a child soldier. But he and his "three angels" escaped, ran for three days, and ended up in a refugee camp in Kenya, where he lived for the next ten years. The conditions in the camp left much to be desired and was only one step above the imprisonment he escaped from. Lomong's favorite past-time while in the camp was soccer, but there were so many boys wanting to play, they decided that they had to run one lap around the camp first. The lap was eighteen miles. He was finally given the chance to emigrate to America. All he had to do was write an essay - in English. He only spoke Swahili and the only school lessons he had were scribbled in the dirt with his finger. But as with all the roadblocks he faced in life, he overcame this one too. To make a long story short, he made it to the U.S., graduated from high school on time, ran track in college, and made it to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Now he spends his time helping other "lost boys" from Sudan realize their dreams. This is an amazing story, one that fills me with hope and proves that anything is possible. After reading "Running for My Life", I can no longer complain about the unfairness of life or use any excuse for not realizing my own dreams. And it makes me proud of my country, especially to see it through the eyes of this "lost boy" from Sudan. Review Written by David Allan Reeves Author of "Running Away From Me"
Excellent, touching book.
I could not put this book down after I first started reading it, neither could I stop crying when reading the initial chapters. This book is incredibly inspiring and makes you feel more grateful for what you have and it made me revisit my reasons and examine my views when complaining about insignificant nuisances of life. Lopez Lomong is not only an incredible runner, he is a very positive example for many of us, somebody who overcame all the odds and not only achieved what it is a dream for most athletes, competing in the Olympics, but he never forgot where he came from and as a young adult works hard to improve the life of those who are not so fortunate and do not have access to many of the things most of us take for granted. I highly recommend this book, it's very heavy emotionally at the beginning with the very sad story of his kidnapping but by the middle of the book you are smiling from ear to ear as you read of his first time interacting with electricity, showers, etc. I was wishing this book didn't end and found myself googling about his latest races and accomplishments after the last chapter was over.
From hopeless survival with the lost boys of Sudan to Olympic Glory
There are times in a person's life that one simple image or event will trigger an unshakable goal. For Lopez Lomong, surviving day-to-day in killing fields and squalor of Sudan, he happened to see saw Michael Johnson, win the Olympics on a very small black and white TV. From that moment on, with an unshakable goal, Lopez Lomong suffered starvation, adversity and came close to death but never lost sight of his goal in a spine-tingling, goose-bumpy struggle as a lost boy in Sudan. This is a feel proud book. I often had tears in my eyes. Obviously, you know he didn't die. You know he made it to the Olympics, and the route to the Olympics is what the book is about, and also in competing, he realized there was a purpose in succeeding: It was to somehow save the boys he left behind. This is a man who against all odds reached an impossible dream.
Another moving story starting in South Sudan
Lopez Lomong has written a heart wrenching story that ends in the best way possible. In the providence of God, as he sees it, he was saved from a Sudanese rebel prison, survived a refugee camp in Kenya and thrived in a new life in the US. This book is his story. I have read many of the 'Lost Boy' autobiographies. Lopez' story isn't the most dramatic by any means, but that makes it no less worthy. There were a lot of areas I wish he would have explored more. I would have liked to hear more about his American parents and what their life is like. I would have liked to know more about his Sudanese parents esp how his mother found herself in the refugee camp overhearing kids talking about her son. I would have liked to hear more about his faith development. And I would have liked to hear more about his friendship with other Sudanese boys once in the USA. Perhaps there is room for an expanded edition.
Inspirational to say the least!!!
I cannot say enough good things about this book and Lopez Lomong. His grit, faith, innate goodness and perseverance on overcoming adversity despite the odds against him goes beyond inspirational. He is a testimony to all that is good and noble in us.
Inspirational, honest and amazing!
This story is truly inspirational, and amazing. Lopez has written a biography which entails facts that can break one's heart because of the gross injustice done to him and the other Lost Boys. However, he has chosen to write without self-pity which is refreshing. The writing is rather simple, which actually makes for an easy, yet compelling read. I recommend this book as an educational resource for all to learn more about the tragedy of Sudan's civil war and the victims. I also recommend this book as a source of inspiration. It is a tribute to Lopez and others like him for their courage and brotherhood. Lopez clearly reveals God's hand weaving in and out of the events which led to his safety, journey to America and his victories won since being here. Compassionate, sensible and informative are words I chose to describe this book.
You should buy and read this book
This would be a great story if it were fiction. The fact that it is real just makes it that much more compelling. I bought this book for me, because I am a runner and have spent some time in East Africa. However, I haven't even read the whole book yet. My wife seized it, read it in a day, and has been reading excerpts to my children, who are also captivated by the story. I read 2 chapters tonight to my seven year old son, who was begging for me to go on. I am really looking forward to reading the bits I've so far missed! Lomong's story has tragedy, hope, triumph, and humor- his stories about some of his first experiences in the US are simply hilarious. Lopez Lomong is among that class of young Africans like Meb Keflezighi (Run to Overcome), Valentino Deng (What is the What, by Dave Eggers), and William Kamkwamba (The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind) who have compelling life stories (and books), and who will (I hope) continue to make the world a better place. Read this book!
Good read, inspiring story
This inspiring story of a young refugee from Sudan who is miraculously given an opportunity to pursue his Olympic dream in the USA presents some great life lessons, especially for those of us privileged to grow up in the USA. It humbles me to realize how much we take for granted and how little we appreciate the life we are given with no choice of ours. The story is engaging and rewarding. Character, hard work, commitment and gratitude find expression in the journey of one of the "lost boys of Sudan" in a way that could lead a boy to pursue a life well lived even while appropriately recognizing the overarching benevolence of a loving God. I hope to get my grandson to read the book.
One little boy's faith in God carries him through life's hardest challenges
I originally read this book as a way to support Lopez- My father's cousin, Robert Rogers, and his wife, Barbara, helped to raise Lopez into the incredible young man he is today. I read it as a way to connect with my family. However, as I read Lopez's story of his life, I quickly became drawn into reading. I was intrigued to learn more about the Sudanese civil war and the rebel army. Lopez's ability to describe his experience as young child is inspiring and incredible. I found myself reflecting on just how many situations I take for granted in my own life and reevaluating my priorities. His use of humor is well timed and easily relatable. The messages of hope and faith in God are strong throughout the entire book and make the book a great read. Without any reservation, I highly recommend this book to anyone- a sports fan, a history fan, someone who has a heart for helping improve living conditions in third world countries, or someone just looking for an easy and enjoyable read.

Genesis of an Olympian
Lopez Lomong covers a great distance in this book, from fleeing Sudan as a Lost Boy, to running 13 miles daily so he could soccer in a refugee camp, to adjusting to life in America, and finally to the Olympics. He says his greatest accomplishment was to graduate from college. Many times Lopez survived because of the help of others around him. He escaped becoming a child soldier because 3 older Sudanese boys from his village helped him escape. He banded together with other young boys in the refugee camp to make a "family" who together protected their small monthly allotment of food. At one point, he was going down into depression when someone helped him try to forget his parents. Especially challenging to a Western reader is the model of his American "parents." Despite its overwhelming subject, this book is not drowned in self-pity, but is filled with hope. It is written in direct, readable style which helps it penetrate right to the heart.
Inspirational - Perseverance
This is such an amazing, uplifting and inspiring book. It makes you believe that anything is possible. Lopepe took the worst possible situation in his early life and with his faith in God, perserved and turn it into good for his family and Sudanese people (I get the reference to Joseph in the Bible). He could have easily improved his station in life and never looked back. But, his strong character never considered that. This book takes you through many emotions, sad to happy, crying to laughing. I loved reading it, I was compelled to keep reading and then I hated that I had I finished the book. This book inspired me, recently I participated in a "mere" 5k race for the first time in about 20 years. I did terribly and was in severe pain practically the entire race - but I was determined to finish. I prayed and thought of Lopez's journey and hardships and told myself that my pain was nothing compared to what the Sudanese people experienced. I finished my 5k with God & Lopez' help!!!
Every American who can read should get this book!
I already knew most of Lopez's story, he came to live in our hometown at age 16. My son ran cross country with him, and sat next to him in homeroom. I still couldn't put the book down. I laughed, I cried, mostly I was humbled. Every American should read this book to be reminded of how blessed we are. I was also so impressed with his unyielding faith. This isn't a story about a runner. It isn't a story about a poor boy making it good. It's a story about a real "Lost Boy" who found his direction in life with a true, pure, innocent faith in God. It is also a story he told to inspire us to help the less fortunate, truly downtrodden people (especially children) of the world, specifically in South Sudan. Proceeds from the book go to his foundation 4 South Sudan. I can't wait to read the sequel, because this young man is still busy writing the rest of his life story! God Bless you Lopez, love from Tully!
Run and take flight with this daring young hero
This is a work of sensory stimulation for ones imagination. At every turn you will feel your heart palpitating with a fear and exhilaration of our hero's experiences. I found myself with a greater sense of appreciation for the United States and for the possibilities of a future without perceived limitations.
So inspirational!
We have it so easy in the United States. It is always good to have a chance to put ourselves against the backdrop of perspective in the world. This story is a God story. A young man believed, gave God the glory and honored Him. I am so happy to have read it.
Happy, sad, shocking...
Loved this book...it kept me awake for 3 nights. Starting with the shocking atrocities that faced families in Sudan, the willpower to live, the determination to get through life and never give up hope. I cried, I had crazy adrenaline rushes like I was running a race and I smiled. I wish the book had been a bit longer, maybe going into a bit more emotional detail (good & bad) (don't want to say too much a create a spoiler)....its an incredibly easy read and I would have preferred something a little more intense as the story definitely warrants it.
Incredible true story
Lopez Lamong has an incredible story! Every moment of this book is inspiring and breathtaking. It is hard to think anything is difficult after hearing of Lopez' life. I highly recommend his book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book
This book was most unusual--God truly works miracles in people's lives whether they recognize his hand or not. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Amazing read
Having done mission work in Africa (and the desire to go back), I practically get my hands on any sort of biography/nonfiction book having to do with Africa (whether its historical information, refugee, about the genocide, etc). So, when I saw this book was coming out, I was super excited to read it. It turned out to be a great read, very inspiring to read of a Sudan refugee being able to make it to the Olympics. You got to experienced the same moments Lopez does, from running away from the soldiers, to life in the refugee camp to the trials of adjusting to American culture and more. A great read, one that I recommend to others as well!
The most vibrant TRUE story I've read in several years.
What a wonderful story of a life very challenged and very successful. I wept at the challenges this child met as he has grown to be a graceful overcomer. I wept at the Grace of God shown throughout the book. I enjoyed the story so much that I researched Lopez Lomong on the internet and found out how his life has evolved since the writing of the book. If you are saddened by cultural changes in this country, read Lomong's story and rejoice at the marvelous opportunities still found in America.

Inspirational read on all levels
Such an inspiration book on so many levels, from what it means to love our country and to be an American, the opportunities we have that we take for granted; what true faith in God looks like when you submit to him; down to the basic survival of life and how to overcome obstacles we can't even imagine! I couldn't stop reading this book, his story made me cry tears of sorrow and tears of joy in several spots. A great read for everyone from young to old everyone can relate to this story and be inspired on some level.
YES. And yes, and thank you Mr. Lomong!
My gratitude abounds. A must read for everyone. If after your finish the book and leave in the Western world and feel and do nothing else, you will at least feel privileged and blessed with the life you have now.
A story of courage and forbearance
A riveting story which shows what promise there is in the young who are given a chance by kind-hearted people willing to rescue them from impossible environments and lead them toward opportunities where they can thrive through their own motivations. Charming, humorous, yet harrowing and dangerous, a true story which will inspire all who read it.
Heroic Resiliance
Inspiring biographical overview that reveals the worst and the best of the human condition. Kidnapping young boys to fight in violent revolutionary actions is the worst. The best, in contrast, is the triumph of the human spirit through captivity and a refugee camp to safe and successful adoption in the United States. His greatest honor came at the Beijing Olympics where he carried the American flag at the opening ceremonies and where President George Bush met with him personally to greet and encourage him. A rapid and compelling read, accessible to young readers.
2 Books in one
Before the book I hadn't heard of Lopez Lomong but I was preparing for my first marathon and wanted to read inspirational books on running/runners. The book starts with Lopez's days in Africa and his struggles; which make you very thankful for what you have. Then comes his adjustments to life in US, which is very amusing and sad at the same time. Then comes his running days. It was a big inspiration for my run and was great reading. Running, especially long distance running, is such a mental sport that most of the time, reaching your targets depend on how much you are ready mentally than physically. This book and Lomong's story puts your targets and achievements into perspective. Some people come all the way in life and achieve this; makes you ask why can't I achieve my own targets, it is doable.
Amazing story!
I enjoyed reading this story, one of challenge, triumph, and immense faith. His story shows that everything is indeed possible when we believe and then work to achieve the dream in which we believe. Well done!
Great read-aloud with kids
I'm a runner, and read this book first, and found myself alternately laughing and crying. We then read it aloud as a family with our elementary-age boys. Even our three-year old would sit in and listen. It made quite an impression on them (and us) as they considered how Lopez Lomong dealt with the hardships of growing up without parents. Many fictional works record the lives of orphaned boys - Harry Potter, Roald Dahl, Oliver Twist - so the fact that this is a true story makes a different impact. Toward the end of the book when Lopez starts track racing, we would follow our chapter of reading with watching clips of his races on YouTube. It made the autobiography come alive for us. This book celebrates the contributions of many unsung heroes: older teenage boys who acted as protectors, coaches, teachers, foster parents, and church workers. It gave me an appreciation for my own family friends who adopted a Sudanese "Lost Boy," and is a great testimony of faith. As a story, it is a reminder of the value of gratitude and appreciation for the gift of life. Highly recommended!
Running For My Life
. Best release of 2012. Just as we begin to feel discouraged about the direction in which America is heading a strong young voice, a voice of experience, is telling us very clearly that the American Dream is NOT dead. Every American should read this autobiography by Lopez Lomong, a Lost Boy of Sudan, who dreamed of becoming an Olympic runner for the United States. Six year old Lopepe (born in 1985) was part of a large group of children rounded up and kidnapped by Sudanese rebel solders in 1991. The little boy was taken under the wings of three bigger boys who helped him escape, running in the wrong direction for home. Eventually the children crossed the border into Kenya, where they were put in a refugee camp. The bigger boys, whom Lopez calls "angels," vanished and were never seen by him again. In the Kenyan refugee camp, work, running and soccer helped fill ten long years. Food was limited and there were no school supplies. Lopez received the rudiments of education with teachers offering lectures and children writing answers in the dirt, using sticks as writing implements. In the year 2000 Lopez and several other boys crept out of the camp, paying a local farmer to let them watch an old black and white television powered by a car battery. Seeing Michael Johnson, the defending Olympic champion and world record holder in the 400-meter dash on that tv, Lopez developed a dream for his own future. He, too, would some day run in the Olympics for the United States. Lopez Lomong believes it was God who led him to learn about the Olympics and who helped him win an essay contest. The contest allowed him to be sent to America where he lived with a supportive American family, earned both his high school and Bachelor's Degrees, received his citizenship and ran in the Beijing Olympics for the United States. His youthful impressions of 9/11 and of experiencing Americans coming together as a people are very powerful, very moving, and extremely important. "Running for My Life" is a true story of a young man whose hard work and faith in God has allowed him to achieve his personal dreams. We pray that his new dreams of bringing pure drinking water, public education and medical services to Sudan also come true. Excellent book. Inspiring and motivating true story. A testament to faith and resilience. Beautiful story
Such a wonderful, inspirational written by an amazing young man. Plus a percentage of his sales go back to help important causes in his homeland. I have gifted this book to many family members and friends
An Incredible Life
I absolutely loved reading about this young man as he overcame the most horrible conditions. I admired how he loved to work and run, his love for soccer, and his great desire to give back and help the people in Sudan overcome the many disadvantages they live with and improve their lives. Clean water and education are key!

My family loved this book.
I have been to Africa and seen only a glimpse of what is described in this book and my love for this continent is what drew me it read it. I was immediately engrossed and was sharing about the story with my family and my oldest two children started reading it also. It feels like you are sitting across the table from Lopez and he is telling you the story of his life. I will be recommending this book to my friends and family. It is a beautiful story of redemption and hope and a testament to the power of faith, hard work and a never giving up mindset. Thank you, Lopez for the example of those characteristics my kids are seeing in you as they read your story.
Fabulous inspiring read!
What a great chance for you or your older children to read an inspiring story to teach us all to appreciate what we have, use our life for good and think of others and what we can do to be more award of the wonderful opportunities we have here in America and how we can share or give them to others. In these times of materialism, celebrities and technology along comes a book that puts life and the words, "I NEED" into perspective...all the while adding hope.
Great story of triumph and perserverence!
What a great story. I'm so happy Lopez got to the USA and was able to fulfill his dream of competing in the Olympics. I was inspired by his story and amazed at how focused he remained throughout everything. I'm very sorry that I missed seeing him at the Eugene tryouts for 2016 Beijing Olympics. Eugene is only a few hours away. I hope he makes it to the 2020 Olympics, I will for sure be rooting him on!
God hears our prayers
Lopez hoped for something better, hoping for something good. So many things fell into place for him. The Lord provided, giving blessings to a man who showed thankfulness in return. He is like many athletes who do not boast about their greatness, but realize they were fortunate to have athletic gifts, and use them to gracious ends.
Hope when you least expect it
I knew the background of Lomomg's story before I read it and I was worried about reading the beginning and the atrocities of the lost boys, but I was in awe of his never ceasing hope throughout the book. This autobiography is not as graphic as I feared it would be and I'm even considering rereading it with my 7 year old son in hopes of inspiring him. Lomong's story is one of survival, adoption, innocence, perseverance, but most of all, one of hope. I hope, like me, you are inspired after reading this, not only by Lomong, but also by the generosity and compassion of his adoptive parents, the trust and love of hi birth parents, and the help and sense of community of his three "angels."
By the luck of our birth
Thank you Joseph for your eloquent story. The place of our birth is random and not a product of effort or planning. We are citizens of the world and as such- your story reminds us of our responsibility to witness our fellow man's strife, and do what we can to help. Bless you and yours and let's never forget those who struggle each day.
Simply Amazing
A friend of mine recommended that I check out this book. I did and was disappointed at all. It is an amazing read. Coming from Africa myself and being a runner, i could relate many times to what Lopez was going through. I was inspired from the beginning to the end, and his rise and success are nothing short of spectacular. If you're American, read this book and you'll see how great your country really is and still the best country in the world to achieve dreams. Author of: From the Streets to Wall Street
Plan on being uplifted!
If this book doesn't move you emotionally, nothing will. The desire to not only survive but to excel was evident from the first page to the last. The Lost Boys of Sudan is a tragic situation and this book demonstrates the good that can come from those who are able to escape the killing and imprisonment of boys and young men.
Excellent!
This book is truly inspiring! You feel that, if Lopez can escape poverty, a war zone and a refugee camp, your problems are easily overcome. That he can do all of this without losing his faith is amazing. It reinforces the idea that with God, all things are possible. Lopez's story of coming to America should remind everyone of all the advantages that we enjoy in the West. He shows grace and forgiveness throughout all his ordeals. I would sooner compare him to Job then Joseph, although I do see the similarities between him and Joseph. He more than survives; he thrives and inspires you to do the same!
A Must Read
A heart wrenching yet inspiring true story that is life impacting. You won't regret reading this. I was moved to tears but also encouraged that God can redeem even hopeless circumstances. Lomong's hope and perseverance are deeply admirable and his story shared with a joy that was tangible as I read.

Simple, honest, inspiring
It's so easy to become desensitized to the depths of depravity that many people face in this world. A common reaction is to go to the other extreme - forget the immense highs that come from pursuing our dreams with the aid of God. Lopez's account is an honest account of a true story that none of us could ever write using our wildest imagination. The injection of both gravitas and humor are both welcome. He should be congratulated on an excellent read. You'll race through this book and want to engage better with the world as a result. You'll cry and you'll laugh out loud. It's definitely worth buying.
Excellent read. Every young athlete should read this book.
This book ia a must read. A book of trials and triumph and prrof that God is with us, no matter what we go through.
Fascinating reading
After having the pleasure of meeting one of Lopez Lomong's brothers (another of the Lost Boys from Sudan who was also adopted into the Rogers' home), I was inspired to purchase this book. I was intrigued from page 1 and found that I didn't want to stop reading. Lopez's humbling accounts of his life experiences and his ability to focus on the positive (while still acknowledging the negatives he suffered) is very uplifting. Having myself graduated from Tully Central School (many years prior to Lopez's arrival), I was even more drawn to his story. It was that much more fascinating reading about many of the people and places that I recognized. Lopez's desire to help others improve their lives is admirable. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an uplifting autobiography.
A must read!!!
Such a moving story. I read this with my two daughters (ages 9 and 7) to give them perspective on how privileged our lives are in America and how to be grateful for it, but also to give back to those not as fortunate. We gained so much from this book and are now motivated to not only make a difference in the people we encounter daily, but more importantly, globally. A must read for any age!
Memorable
This was hard to put down. For all he lost and all his suffering, the thing that always shined through was his appreciation for what he had. We take so much for granted in this country. I'm glad that he escaped the horrors of war and deprivations of the refugee camp and was able to come here to the US and get a good education. His story is memorable.
Great book!
Incredible history of success! Good motivation for runners
Inspiring
I bought the audio book for my son who runs. He listened to it on the way to work and was inspired by it
Inspiring
I have only ever read a handful of non-fiction stories. This is by far the best story I've ever read. I have felt every emotion on the spectrum from start to finish of this book. It's changed my perspective of what's truly important in life and has also inspired me to sponsor a child in Africa. Kids in America complain about going to school, while children in Africa are without a loving family and write lessons in the dirt, assuming they're fortunate enough to have lessons. This story has changed my world view and has also renewed a sense of patriotism in me for how great our country truly is and how very fortunate we are to have all the opportunities that are available to us.
Five Stars
Great Product. Thanks.
Inspirational story
very interesting account of a Lost Boy. I started college in 2001 and went to university with a number of Lost Boys, and this is a very touching and encouraging story of Lil Pepe. My only regret is that they stopped bringing these children to the US after 9/11. The account is an inspiring story for people of all ages. I listened to the audiobook as well which was fantastic.

Learning more of why I am running for clean water!
I loved this book and the opportunity to earn more about my invitation to raise money for clean water for the children of Sudan like Lomong. I have the opportunity to run on Team World Vision with him in August (mentioned in epilogue). http://www.teamworldvision.org/participant/kp
Cried on the plane
Such a thrilling and heart wrenching story. It’s so fascinating to get in the lives of history. I love that this is a real story
emotional roller coaster
I can't think of another book I've read that puts things into the stark reality of life as Running For My Life. Your whole paradigm of what really matters in life is suddenly changed as you see the world through the eyes of a six year old boy caught up in today's global conflict. Regardless of your religious beliefs, you can't help but feel that God's love and protection brought this person through his early life for a greater purpose. Things like hunger, security, faith, and perseverance take on new dimensions after reading RFML. I don't think reading this book has made me a better person but it makes me want to try!
Amazing and Inspirational
Everyone has a story... this one is of hope and transformation out of the ashes through, love, faith, hope, and running.
A MUST read! Fantastic, real story!
Lopez writes a moving autobiography that gives mainstream Americans a glimpse into life for many others in the world. It is truly a remarkable story that leaves you wanting to help all people in dire situations such as these. Lopez is such a miracle and I am so glad that God chose to work through him as a leader for those who live in Sudan. Proceeds of this book go towards his foundation for Sudan.
Brilliant !!!
One of the best books I have ever read! Lopez's story is an encouragement for just about anybody. A very brave, focused and strong young man. I am awed, and at the same time, humbled by his story. This is a lot to learn from someone who had nobody to rely on but a God given inner strength which gave him direction and courage. I have a huge, huge respect for Lopez Lomong. I am the mother of four boys. I am going to encourage each of them to read this story ( three of them are too young at the moment) to draw from this testimony of strength and get an insight into a great, big heart full of compassion for people who are still stuck in the life he came from. don't miss reading this book!!!
Such an inspirational book!
I loved this book. The way it's written I felt like I had a clear picture of every step of Lopez's journey. I love the way he values hard work and is so determined to push for his goals. You will definitely be inspired, challenged and pushed to be a better version of yourself, through this story.
A great story of one of the "Lost Boys of Sudan"
I like it very much! The human drama is compelling. I had heard much about the "Lost Boys of Sudan" and Lopez Lomong's story goes to great heights (including the Olympics--spoiler alert). This is good reading. I think you'll like it!
story was inspiring
I was blessed to be given a signed copy of Lopez's book by a friend. What a journey this young man has been on. Truly God had a hand in protecting Lopez's life for a very special reason. Lopez has given God the glory and being bold in professing his faith so others could see that no matter how hard life is and no matter what you are dealt, that if you trust God, good things can happen. I purchased the audio version for my adult children and let my mother read my copy. I encourage you to pass the book/story along to others so that Lopez's story can be heard/read and maybe we can all help Lopez make a difference in his original home town. Also may we NEVER complain again about anything after what Lopez endured. He is an amazing young man and may he enjoy his London olympic experience and God willing win a medal. This book is a must read.
I loved it!
An inspiring story of faith and perseverance, I could not put this book down after the first page. This is much more than a book about running. It is a story of overcoming the odds to achieve your dreams and trusting in God that he will carry you through to the end. This book will move you to tears and have you laughing out loud. I highly recommend it.

Incredible story
I could not put this book down. So good and easy to read.
Great book!
This was a very inspiring book. It's very well written, with a little humor and suspense. It makes me want to get out there and do something inspiring too. I just really enjoyed the book. It's truly amazing to see what someone went through and what he did to change his life and what he's doing with it now. I love how no matter what he stayed positive and looked toward God for guidance.
A good inspirational read
His enduring gratitude and resilience after a life of extreme cruelty, hardship and poverty was truly inspirational. I wish we had more people like his foster parents who stood solidly behind him, encouraging and motivating him until he found his niche. The language in the book, understandably simple can and did make the book a very interesting and at times, emotional read. It should be made into a movie!
Riveting
This biography follows the life of Lopez Lomong from early childhood in his village, his love of running, his capture, his survival, his escape, right to his new life in the US. It describes how hard he worked for every thing he had. It is an example of how a person with nothing can achieve his dreams by hard work and total commitment to and visualization of his goals. Inspiring!
Informational and inspiring
Despite the many rough years he was able to achieve so much. It shows how strong he was and how he always had faith. There were a number of wonderful people who helped him along the way. I liked that he told some funny incidents that he experienced in his early years on the USA.
Excellent book- Story and a learning experience
I stumbled upon this book on Amazon and once it hit my Kindle I couldn't put it down. Lopez Lomong has an incredible life story of coming from nothing and literally running from his life to running the Olympics for the USA. As a runner in the US, it makes me truly appreciate the opportunities I've been given and to always know that there are others less fortunate that have a far more uphill battle than we do, even in our worst days. Amazing story and highly recommend checking this book out. Lopez not only has a story to tell, but a learning experience for us all.
Captivating
This is a book that will not let you put it down. It is potentially life changing and will make you more appreciative of what you've been given.
compelling and well written
Lopez, the author, becomes a "lost boy" from Sudan when he is kidnapped by the rebel forces. After escaping captivity at age 6, he runs to Kenya with 3 other older boys. His decade in a displaced persons camp opens the opportunity of a lifetime. This well written book details his journey that has brought him full-circle to becoming a changing force of South Sudan. This book and story are a fast read that will leave you wondering what your place in Lopez's story will be.
Five Stars
Wonderful biography of a God transformed life after a devastating childhood trauma.
Excellent reminder of the evil in the world and the ...
Excellent reminder of the evil in the world and the perseverance to overcome it though God's help. Lopez's subsequent work for charity work through World Vision has help many who were mistreated like him.

An inspiring story!
Such an inspiring story, I couldn't put it down. It is amazing to see how far he has come. The part when he so poignantly tells about his arrival in the US for the first time really made me think how much we take for granted and how little we know about what is going on in other parts of the world. I would love to hear more about what this young man accomplishes and how he helps his country. His American parents are really heroes to take in these Lost Boys and educate them to make a difference in the world!
Perseverance!
Humbling story on perseverance!
I'm not a particularly religious person, but this story brought a little tear to my eye
Having spent some time in Africa, this book really made me reflect on how some of the most kind and decent human beings can exist is situations that collectively are nightmares. Lomong's story gave me some insight into the inner life of those exceptional survivors who maintain such faith and humanity in spite of all the horror.
Totally worth reading!
Absolutely illuminating and insightful about this man's journey from being kidnapped in the Sudan as a child of 6, escaping, living in a boy's refuge center in Kenya for ten years in super substandard conditions and the miracles of his being selected to go to America and his new life. His spirituality and belief in God I found inspiring.
Running for My Life
It is always amazing to me how wonderful some people can be and the American parents of Lopez exemplify that characteristic in spades. Lopez took the love and affection that he received from them and has been worthy of every bit of it. This book does a good job of explaining how love and faith and luck can all work out just right sometimes.
Inspiring!
I thought Lopez Lomong's autobiography was an amazing story. I will definitely be following his career going forward. I stumbled across this book while searching for running themed books to read while on a vacation. i was mesmerized from the beginning! I was completely inspired by his story and his optimistic and joyful outlook on his life and experiences in spite of the tragedy he lived through. He is a testimony of God's power and goodness. I'll be recommending this book to all my friends, runners and non-runners alike.
Lopez Lining Autobiography Review
Even if you have never run or watched a race in your life you should read this book. Lopez Lomong has won many races in his life but this book is about a victory of the human spirit, starting with the chaos of his initial kidnapping and culminating with the Beijing Olympics.
What an Amazing story!
Increible story! Amazing! This book inspires me to help others and give back! Thank you Lopepe for writting this outstanding story of your life!
Hard to read but must do it.
This book was touching for me. As a person of the African diaspora born in America, I realized how sheltered I have been in my own world. To think of children having to fight to servive such terror is hard to fanthom. I commend this writter for sharing his experiences. This book was vivid and real.
Exciting and Informative Story!
Fascinating reading that held my attention throughout and helped me understand much better the plight of "lost boys' in the Sudan. This lost boy was adopted by an American couple and went on to run for the United States in the Olympics.

Buy this book!!!
A must read!!! This was one of the best books I have ever read! It is probably the most inspiring book out there right now. I have been telling everyone I know " you have to get this book" If you only read one book this year, this is the book you want. It will change your life! Lopez Lomong is one amazing man and he tells his story in such a way, that you feel like laughing and crying at the same time. Buy this book!!!
Inspiring
This book is so inspiring. We take for granted so many ordinary and commonplace opportunities that people like Lopez had to struggle so hard to get. It made me feel shame that I don't always appreciate the blessings I have. I dare you to read this without crying. I'll be watching for him in the next summer Olympics.
WOW! I can't say enough about this book.
I laughed, I cried, I got upset and enjoyed the whole thing. What a GREAT book. I think it is one of the best books I have ever read. I'm going to read it to my kids and have recommended it to many. It started out as a questionable book club option and has ended up as a favorite to all of us. SO glad we picked and it SO glad Lopez shared his amazing, genuine and hearfelt story. LOVE LOVE this book and the spirit of this wonderful young man.
An Inspiring Story
Very Inspirational story of a "lost boy of the Sudan" who was taken as a boy, at gunpoint, from his Mother. He runs, barefoot, to escape the armed men. He later runs around a refugee camp to take his mind off hunger looking forward to the weekly "garbage day" where he could supplement his rations from a nearby garbage dump. With the help of Catholic Chairties, he immigrates to America where runs to compete in the Olympics and carries the American flag. Very inspirational.
Inspirational and Uplifting
Lopez not only survives horrible circumstances, but he never loses hope. Throughout the book he recognizes God's hand in his life and demonstrates incredible faith. While this book sheds light on some of the atrocities that go on in the world, it shows us that good can come out of anything. Lopez maintains a positive outlook and against incredible odds, he reaches his lofty goals. This books leaves you with a smile on your face.
Compelling
Fascinating story about one of the "lost boys" of the Sudan who survived the refugee camp to eventually participate in the Olympics. You will want to make donations to his foundation after you read his story.
I loved this book
I loved this book! I read it while on vacation and then handed my kindle to my husband so he could read it. He really liked it, too! Would recommend this book to anyone who likes to run and likes human interest stories.
An inspiration!
What an AMAZING story! His life experience reminds me to 'trust' that everything in my life is how it should be, and if it doesn't feel right, I can change it. I have such gratitude, that I was born on American soil:) freedom... The land of opportunity:) Thank you for sharing your story, Lopez:)
Great story and most exciting.
The most exciting story I've ever read. Now, the reader can really understand what it's like to be uprooted from the jungle to the US.
understanding the need to run
As the father of an accomplished fifty year old distance runner , ultra marathon , I can relate with Loez Lomong 's energy and drive . In this book Lopez weaves a story of survival , adventure , quest for athletic excellence , human compassion , to the highest level ! Lopez helps the reader understand what a super strong inner drive is all about ! As the father of an ultra marathon runner I often hear the question " why do you run a hundred miles in a day ? " Lopez helps answer this question .
I was wishing this book didn't end and found myself googling about his latest races and accomplishments after the last chapter was over.

good read
This was a good read that was both insightful and humbling. It is easy to forget or even be totally oblivious to what is going on in the world sometimes. A book like this helps to put things back into perspective and makes you cheer for then 'good guys' in the world.
Impactful
Great story about a young boys plight after he is stolen from his family. Not only is it inspiring but it's eye opening as well. An inside look at one of the lost boys physical sms emotional journey.
Good
Bought as a gift
Afghanistan
Today I am a Second Lieutenant in the military currently overseas. I grew up running against Mr. Lomong in high school, this book gave me a better reason to be where I am today than I had prior and to read about a fellow competitor. This book also brought me back to high school when I established TULLYPOOL with many fellow runners from both schools. This book identifies our region of New York, our state, and our country, and the great people within so I want to thank Mr. Lomong for sharing his story and bestowing his pride on our great nation.
One of the most amazing books I've ever read!
I have been buying books on Amazon for years and have never written a review about any of them until now. This book is that good! I read it in one afternoon without stopping. Of course, I didn't get any work done, but it was so worth it! Lopez Lomong has such an inspirational story. His passion for bringing awareness to the situation in Sudan is infectious. This is going to be one of the books I'll take with me on a desert island. You can definitely bet I will be buying multiple copies for Christmas gifts. Plus, a portion of each book sale goes towards Lomong's foundation to improve conditions in Sudan. Read this book!!
Reviewing Running for my Life
This story challenged me in two ways. Lopez did not let the conditions in his life define who he was. He did not have a victim mentality though out his terrible childhood and he made it to America. The other challenge was Lopez's adoptive parents. They opened their home to a lost boy and gave him a life. They had to adjust their lives for a child who did not speak english well and also was trying to adjust to the life in America. I would recommend this book to anyone.
A story everyone should hear.
I read this book not knowing who Lopez Lamong was. I now have respect for who he was as as an Olympian as well as a promoter for humanitarian causes in Sudan, Africa. His story is one of the most inspirational I have ever read. I highly recommend not missing this incredible book.
Fast read, good book
This book was remarkable. This was an insight to what so many people go thru and continue to go thru in third world countries. What we should appreciate in our lives and how much so many have to offer to others that have so little. Everyone should read this and take note of what they can do for others
Five Stars
Excellent! I couldn't put it down!
Inspiring
A good choice for young adults.

Awesome read!
This was a great read about a remarkable story. Inspiration, determination and above all keeping faith by putting God first!
waterbringshope
This book was written from the heart. It tells the incredible true story of not only survival, but of perseverance. It is an easy read with a deeply rooted message. Lopez never feels anger because of the atroccities, only thankful that God gives him strength to endure. He relies on God to lift him up and carry him through with a faith I envy. Truly inspirational!
Overcomer
I had heard about the lost boys of the Sudan, but this is the first story about one of them that I have read. I was blown away by the circumstances he had to overcome to run in the Olympics, and the way the Lord answered his sometimes desperate prayers.
Inspirational story
I read this book on my journey to Africa after recommendation from a friend. I went there to study abroad, but I learned so much from this book that I decided to meet up with a group of friends in Zambia who were raising money for the ZOCS schools. This book has been an inspiration for me in many ways. I even took up running again, something I'd always loved in the past. Sudanese child refugee to American Olympian - I think that simple statement explains the magnitude of the story.
Read it!
Quick, easy read and more importantly moving, thought-provoking and inspiring. What an incredible story about the power of dreams and the power of this great country. Highly recommend!
Five Stars
This book can change your life..from looking at refugees to theat way you view the US.
Very heart warming, and inspirational story!
Amazing story about this man's journey from extreme hardship, and depredation to good fortune, and high achievement. There was a part in the middle, where I became more emotional than I have ever become from a book or movie.
Unbelievable story
What an amazing story. Whenever I think I'm having a tough day or have it rough, I just have to think about Lomong's life and journey. Such a great reminder that we don't need much in life to be happy. And such an inspirational story. A great read for runners and non-runners alike.
Having met Lopez several years ago, it was interesting ...
Having met Lopez several years ago, it was interesting to read his life story. I thought he was a bit of a show off and a cocky bastard when I saw him race in college but after all he endured I'll cut him some slack.
Unforgettable Amazing Story
Just finished reading Lopez Lomong's Running for My Life: One Lost Boy's Journey from the Killing Fields of Sudan to the Olympic Games. What an amazing true story. Highly recommend for all to read. This will be one that you'll never forget.

Lost Boys of Sudan
This is a deeply moving true story. I was wrapped up immediately in the plight of six-year-old Lopez Lomong. How was he going to survive unbelievable circumstances and go on to give back so much? I highly recommend it.
Trusting GOD
I liked this book because I love when life starts off rough and God turns it all around for the better I rated this five stars because it was well written. I also liked how the author was real and straight forward in his sharing of his story. I recommend this book for everyone.
Running is a beautiful and gripping life's story.
Every American boy and girl should read this before entering High School, what a gift of opportunity that this young person was given..............he believed in hisself, didn't let failure bring him down, overcame insurmountable odds against him and won one of life's greatest victories.............an education. , s
A rare find
What a rare find. As I started reading, I just could not put the book down. In some places I did not know whether to laugh or cry or both. Written with compassion, insight, care and love. What an outstanding human..... what a gracious God.
Inspiring
Lopez Lomong's story is both touching and inspirational. It makes you appreciate all that we take for granted here in the United Stated. It also makes you realize that with a little help and a lot of faith and hard work, it is possible to overcome many great obstacles, achieve your dreams, and make a difference in the world. Looking forward to watching Lopez compete in his 3rd Olympics in Rio!
So glad I got it
This is a very well written book about a Lost Boy's life. Meet His Mon and Dad at a wedding and they told me about this book. So glad I got it, well worth the $. Everyone should read this, so heart and soul warming.
A Real Page Turner!
This is a compelling, inspirational story of a boy that never lost hope and faith. It proves that God never leaves or forsakes His people, even though circumstances seem to be at their worst! My heart goes out to the Lost Boys of Sudan. Lopez has truly raised my consciousness about their plight. I highly recommend this book!
Lopez Lomong is an inspiration
Lopez puts you right with him every step of the way. An amazing story of determination and the good others can do to help their fellow man.
Awesome book and great story
Awesome book and great story. Had a chance to meet hm in person and he's the same person that he describes i his book
inspiring story about a young man overcoming tragedy and falling in love with the USA
I am usually a reader of fiction but this simply written story really struck a cord. I am a runner but that is not what registered with me. Through Lomong's eyes I fell in love again with my country, the USA. In the pages are also a million reasons to help our brothers and sisters, all of them, everywhere.
Powerful Story of God's Grace
Very powerful story about one of the "lost boys" of Sudan and his struggles and ultimate success. I don't want to say much else because of the spoiler potential, but it is a very good read.
Everyone should read this story
Lopez Lomong inspires us all--and we should all read this story. A fairly quick read that will leave a lasting impression. Lopez's voice domes through with such passion in this book... a good book for readers of all ages.
One of my favorite books of all time! Makes you feel grateful!
Lopez Lemong is amazing! What a survivor! His story will make you cry, laugh, and truly be grateful for everything that we have- food, hot water, shelter, soccer balls. If I could give a copy of this book to everyone I know, I would.
Running for My Life
I've always wanted to know more about the lost boys of the Sudan. This book, written by one of them, was very inspiring in that it detailed his journey to freedom and his consequent efforts to free his Sudanese brothers.
Can't Put It Down
I know Lopez from High School in Upstate NY, and have followed his career. I know most of his story, but the details in this book are amazing. I started it late one night and stayed up halfway through the night. Within the first 100 pages, I had laughed out loud, cried my eyes out, and been truly stunned at everything Lopez has been through to get to where he is now. What I love most is that this is written purely in Lopez' voice. It's as though he is sitting there next to you telling you his story. Everyone interested in the Olympics, running, refugees, and the human spirit should read this wonderful book.
Always interesting to read about the Lost Boys
The Lost Boys of Sudan have had so many horrific experiences and I am glad that some of them got to the United States to be able to live a better life. It is a story of determination and uplifting. Could hardly put it down.
Recommended for book clubs!
The amazing story of one lost boy's journey to america and the Olympics. His Christian faith helped him survive and hope for a better life after 10 years in a refugee camp. He doesn't dwell on negative stories but gives us all hope for a better life. Good clean read.
What an amazing man!
Necessary exposure to the violence we usually don't hear about. Very distressing to learn about the atrocities that go on every day outside (and inside) our country. What an amazing man!
Five Stars
Lopez Lomong is truly an amazing man. What an inspiring story. Thank You!
Inspiring!
This was an inspiring autobiography! I loved his descriptions of events and how he was changed by them. We can all learn from Lopez to believe in our dreams and pursue them, being grateful to God and others who are traveling through life with us.

Running for My Life
Good story and for me, very informative. I enjoyed reading it. I was unfamiliar with the term "lost boys so it will guide me in my future selections about the South Sudan, etc.
An Amazing Story
This is an amazing story that puts a lot of perspective on our lives here in America. This book was very well written. I loved everything about it. It was eye opening and heart wrenching.
It is a beautifully told story about a Lost Boy and his journey ...
I am using this along with the book "A Long Walk to Water" and The Red Pencil. It is a beautifully told story about a Lost Boy and his journey to American and the Olympics.
An inspiration for all
This book brought sadness, tears, hope, laughter, and inspiration that with God all things are possible. So glad I found this book, I won't ever forget it nor the man Lopez Lomong.
wow what a story
I ran a few races against Lopez in college. At the heart of every runner something makes them tick. His reason is possibly more amazing than anyone. I love his use of God and his ability to always be great full for what God has done for him and his endless ability to give back.
Great read for young people
Loved his story, so glad he shared it. Great read for young athletes and all young people.
inspirational
Rarely do I get so hooked into a book that I can't set it down. I was moved to tears once and eager to find out how it ended.
Wonderful story about fortitude!
Amazing story about one man's journey through life, taking what ever opportunities he is offered and making the most of them. This is a book every American should read to better understand the courage and fortitude it takes for a refugee to come to a strange land, start over, and make it big.
Wonderful book!
Inspiring and incredible. And we think we have it hard when the store runs out of our favorite ice cream.....run a mile in this remarkable man's shoes.
DREAM
This book is a quick read with exceptional inspirational value for all ages. My daughter just began running and found it inspiring. I read portions of it to my fifth grade students and they begged for more. This young man encourages readers to look beyond life's difficulties and DREAM.

Amazing.
This story puts life into perspective, you can take life's challenges and turn them into goals, or you can give up. Lopepe made a hard life happy.
Amazing
My life revolves around running. Once I read this book I learned to love running even more. I also started becoming more aware of food waste. Everyday at school so many kids throw away perfectly packaged food that could go to a kid In need. But they are not aware. I try to tell as many kids as I can but they won't listen. As I...I try to keep the waste down as low as possible. I even try as hard as to not waste anything. Lopez lomong is my hero and I never would of thought that such a book could be so positively impacting. Amazing job.
A good read
I truly enjoyed this book. From the very first page it kept me involved. What an amazing story of what he went through.
Very inspirational
I get this book for my 10 year old daughter and she loved it. Very inspirational book.
A story of experience and success
I chose this book to find out what the title was all about. I gave it the four star rating because it is a story that shows what can be done when good people go the extra mile and pass it forward. Unfortunately we live in a World that is not equal to all members of the human race, but fortunately there are good people out that work to try and even the playing field.
Best book I've read in a long time!
This was an awesome and inspiring story. Lopez is an incredibly strong young man. I bought a hard copy of the book to give to my grandson for Christmas.
Definitely running for life
Very heartfelt story of perseverance. Touching worldly issues such as civil war within developing countries.
A must read for teens and adults everywhere!!!
AMAZING story of how God rescued a boy taken originally as a boy soldier, and transformed him and his life story into an Olympic runner. Hands down, the most interesting story we have ever read as a family. Our kids will never forget it!
Highly recommended
Wonderful story of hope! I highly recommend it.
Fascinating
A very captivating book. It follows the deplorable conditions in Sudan to struggles adjusting to life in America. Bb c.co

Amazing read, hard to believe it is true
This was an amazing read from beginning to end. It is hard to believe it is a true story! I was hooked from the moment I started reading the book, and even though I had a busy week, I found myself picking it up in every spare minute I had. Definitely made me a fan of Lopez Lomong and the life he has created out of suffering and tragedy. What a wonderfully inspiring true story, I recommend it to anyone.
Inspiring true story of a modern day Joseph
This book touched me so much that as I read it, I related the story of Lopez's (Christian name Joseph) experiences to my husband, children, and whoever was around to listen. I recommend this book.
A must read....lessons value appreciation
Grateful to have found this book to open our eyes and remind us that we are blessed to have the live we have, to be able to have food as much as we want, to have comfort, to have freedom. You read this book and you can't believe this is Soto recent... a testimony of faith... What an amazing gift.
WOW
If you're hesitating about getting this, don't. You won't be able to put it down. I read it non stop until finished. Laughed, cried, awe-inspired. If it wasn't true, you wouldn't believe it was possible! Go Lopez, GO !!
Lopepe's Story
If it weren't true we'd complain it was too bizarre. This horrific account of a young boy's life and his humble, sweet retelling are the perfect juxtaposition of emotion. This should be required reading for every middle school child.
Amazing Story.
While the writing is not up to Lopepe's life story, who cares, you just cant't stop reading page after page.
Substance
I found this author to be very honest, without seeking pity. It was a pleasure to read about his perseverance and the support of people around him. Also, his desire to give back to his family and his country was heart-felt and impressive. I recommended this book to my 13 year old grandchild.
Inspiring book
Loved the book bought through third party came in great condition and as predicted
Five Stars
A true life story that has you wanting more as you read. Hard to put down.
Inspiring!
A modern story of inspiration and humility I'm a better person for having read this

You will love it too!
Very inspiring book. We read it in our book club. I would love to meet Lopez Lomong. He has had an interesting life - a hard life when he was younger. So thankful that people have helped these lost boys of Sudan.

Inspiring
It is good for us to look at life through someone else's eyes. This was a great message of hope, perseverance, and overcoming adversity with strength of character. We forget how blessed we are.
Gripping story!
I have heard the story of the Lost Boys but reading this first hand account had a tremendous impact on me. I encourage you to read Lopez's story see God touch your heart and move you to action. Together, we can make a difference in our world.
Running for My Life
I borrowed a copy to read and liked it so much that I bought it for a Christmas gift for a family member. I like the way Mr. Lomong stops to pray before making a decision. God bless Lopez Lomong.
Great book
Very motivating and moving story. It is amazing what someone can do with enough drive and ambition. Also how an Amercan family can make a huge difference in someone's life. Highly recommend. Fast read.
Intriguing
I really enjoyed reading the real life story of Lopez. It is motivating me to reach out to help others.
Lomong for sharing your life and your sweet relationship with Christ
I read this in one day, and in that one day, it changed my life. Thank you Mr. Lomong for sharing your life and your sweet relationship with Christ. This was an amazing read. I recommend it to everyone age 13 and up, male or female, athlete or non-athlete. If you read it, be careful. It will change your life.
A story everyone should know.
This was one of the most inspiring books i have ever read. I couldnt put it down. this book is precise in all details and is a fantastic read. I cannot stop gushing about what a man lopez lamong is!
Inspiring journey
I had never heard of Lopez when I picked out this book. His story is incredibly inspiring. I read it almost straight through. It is a little repetitive at times and parts of it were personally disturbing to me but that didn't detract from its compelling narrative. I recommended it to all my reading friends.
Touching and inspiring
An amazing story of strength and endurance. From beginning to end a page turner. It is an inspiring story.
Amazing story about the will to survive and excel in life
This story about one of the Lost a Boys in Sudan , who achieved his dream of becoming a USA Olympian, is such a strong testimony to the will to live and the true faith in God. Lopez Lomongo tells his story with humility and gratitude. I would recommend his book to all Americans who take for granted the opportunities given to us in this country.

Review "Running for My Life"
Awesome story. Triumph over seemingly insurmountable odds. Faith, dedication, work ethic, diligence, positive outlook helping to determine success. Lopez did not have a victim mentality and you can really see how that worked well for him. Also, the impact of having great people around you to help influence you to excellence. Great read. Good influence for your life.
Definite read and great story to discuss with your family/friends
Lopez' book is a definite read and great story to discuss with your family/friends. His life story is inspirational, and his personal principles remain unwavering and connected to his core beliefs. We are all exposed to talented athletes whose accomplishments drive their ego. It's great to hear an honesty story about a person who leverages his athletic accomplishments and ensuing influence to do so much for others.
Thought provoking
This book made me cry and want to do more. The needs are so basic and an educated world should be able to come up with solutions to provide these necessities.
great movie
I friend told me she was reading this book and will recommend, so I bought it online, just to tell you I finished first to read it then my friends. I think this is a really inspiring true history.
Inspirational story
The story was inspirational and shows what some with a passion and perseverance can accomplish when given the resources. The writing and story telling could have been better which is why I only gave it a 3.
Uplifting
This is a book that tells a true story of a courageous and strong human being. I did not want the book to end and recommend it to all my friends. There is so much to learn from this book, mostly how blessed I am to live in this country without constant war and tyranny. Thank you for this book.
Very niceTOUCHING
I gave this book a five plus, because it is very well written. I am very, very proud of Lopez Lomong to accomplish so many of his life dreams so far. I wish him the best. Thanks for the beautiful pictures.
great read
Wonderful story so captivating from begining to end. I reccomend this to any interested in reading a story about how a person who never gives up hope and chases after his dream all while helping his family.
Great read for runners and non runners
The book was inspiring, full of truth and heart. Provided perspective that most of us don’t get to see. Incredible story.
amazing story of faith
Tis was a great book. Well written, and thought through. I laughed, I cried I was inspired. I would love to get involved with helping out Lopez's mission, won't you?

Cindy's thoughts
This was our book club selection. It was very inspiring. We do not fully appreciate what a great country we have. It makes me proud to say I am an American.
Great biography
So nice to hear about a current and relevant success and the American dream. Hard work, faith in God, and determination is something all Americans can learn from. Won't soon forget Lopez, his story touched my life.
Reaching the unreachable
It was a riveting story about how one young boy survived the killing fields and attained his dream. I liked his thoughts about how one should not bemoan the past but focus on the future because you cannot change the past, just grow from it.
Four Stars
A great book. Very enjoyable, and inspirational.
Five Stars
Very inspirational!
Lopez did a wonderful job of writing in a simple and direct way ...
I have had the privilege of meeting some lost boys. Their stories are both tragic and inspiring. Lopez did a wonderful job of writing in a simple and direct way detailing how he felt at each time of his life.
Let Lopez take you on his journey
The book was very well written. The author had so many hardships to overcome in both Africa and America.
A must read for all ages
Very inspiring story. Easy read.
This is a wonderful book. Everyone should spend some time reading it

Four Stars
Inspring, compelling story. He is unapologetic about Christian faith, and his respect for USA and opportunities available.
Lopez Lomong...God`s faithful servant
What a powerful story. Lopez, or Joseph's story is amazing not just in what he has overcome but in his positive attitude through it all as he leaned on God for guidance and strength!
One of the best autobiographies I have ever read
I was impressed by the positive tone throughout the book. Once I started to read I could not put it down. Everyone should read this book.
Amazing story!
True story of an impossible journey. Well written and a fascinating read. This story has had a significant impact on my life.
Faith trumps all...
This was an inspiring story of faith, determination and the passion to make a difference. It is a clear reminder to not take what we have for granted and to always lend a helping hand where one can.
Inspirational story, Lopez has overcome huge adversity and incredible ...
Inspirational story, Lopez has overcome huge adversity and incredible poverty as a child, to compete at the Olympics for the US track team! Very entertaining read
Miracle after miracle
I really enjoyed this book. I love that Lopez arrived in the United States right in the part of the country where I live. I loved how he compared himself to Joseph of the Old Testament.
