Rand McNally Folded Map: United States

It’s a map. It’s made of paper. They can’t track you on GPS. But now They know I’m somewhere in the U.S. I’ve said too much.

I got this map specifically to trace all the roads that I have taken while on road trips. It is fairly detailed and includes just about all interstates and state highways given the amount of detail (it gets a bit cramped in the Northeast) but as you can see from the photo, it is a nice map to hang up if you want to display all the roads you've taken or mark places you've been, etc. I'm glad I purchased this over the "posters" I saw on Amazon, which were more expensive and it just didn't feel authentic enough. Most people don't use maps for actual navigation anymore, so keep this on your wall or keep one in the car and mark off places after you've been!

Imagine a SHTF scenario where your phone/GPS no longer works. You want to get from point A to point B and want to take the route of least resistance and lowest population density. Having a map of the entire country showing which major roads to avoid, alternate routes and landmarks such as rivers would be invaluable. This map went straight into my bug-out kit and with any luck I will never need to use it, but if I do, I am confident I can get anywhere and avoid as many people as possible during the process.

My husband and I are moving from California to Virginia and wanted to take a month to travel old school with nothing but a paper map to see the United States.. We took the time to map out multiple routes in colors and this map was perfect! It shows all major highways and interstates and is very well sized to do the trick. Folds up compact to fit in the glove box and I highly recommend you and someone you love travel this way. It’s also cool to show kids a real map so they can understand how people used to travel before google maps.

This is a good standard map of the USA that can be referred to without having to carry around a road atlas. Also, it is a helpful map to have on hand while flipping through the pages of a road atlas. You can look at maps of different states while referring to this map of the USA without having to flip back and forth to the map of the USA that is contained in the road atlas itself. You can, with less effort, get a perspective on distance and direction between states as you study each state.

I recently ordered three Rand McNally United States interstate maps through Amazon. They arrived this date and I can not believe how outdated they are. Date of publication is 2013. Many many roads and hyways have changed since that date and they are absolutely useless for me. The paper is so brittle from being folded and stored so long that they tear when unfolding. Don't buy!!!

True to its description, this (interstate) map was precisely what I was looking for. It is detailed exactly to my liking, having everything AND MORE than I even expected. As you can see in my photo, it has all the room you need to "pin" point cities or towns. It truly is the perfect size for any home or office wall.

Helpful. And turned out to be a fun part of our road trip... we would Sharpie the route we took out West and got to see, big picture, our travels at the end. It IS huge however. But that didn’t bother us so much.

Had some 1st time visitors from overseas who had no concept of the vastness of the USA. We drove nearly 4000 miles visiting areas of interest between Kings Canyon, CA and Tombstone, AZ. I bought this to put things in perspective and the sections of Route 66 we traveled will be but dots on the map. They were astonished that our travels were barely a blip on the radar screen of what the USA has to offer!

This seems like a way back to the old time but there are times when you need a map to hold and write on. This map came on time and in perfect condition. The map has the roads the states and a legend to tell all kinds of other things. I highly recommend this map. Rand McNally has been around for decades and it is still as precise and comforting as it has always been.

Look it’s a map. It helped my wife and I find some random towns and places to see when we were driving cross country. Sometimes old school is best boys and girls. Hopefully the updated version will show is where Waldo is.

My husband and I are going on a cross country road trip and no real road trip is complete without a old fashioned map. To see a map laid out and seeing all the states you will cross is so exciting. Our Pastor was just talking a couple of weeks ago about the old maps and how they could never fold them back up again and everyone laughed, that was over a certain age of course, lol. It brought back cherished memories to everyone. I knew that our road trip would not be complete without a map. It is the only way to see the country as a whole map and to see what cities are around the highways.

I like to see my entire route spread out for me and not a couple of miles at a time on my iPhone. it’s just great to have an actual map that I can hold and fold and write on and find little towns along the way. Hard to plan a two month RV trip without being able to see where you’re going.

I recently had a road trip come up and since my mom wanted to be on the safe side in case our phones stopped working, I purchased this. It’s paper, foldable and served it’s purpose. It was nice to be able to look at it every now and then to see when a city would be coming up.

We bought this as a way for our kids to see where we’ve been and to pick where we should go next. The concept is great however it’s not kid (or adult) friendly. I find that if you scratch even a tiny bit hard or too many times in a spot it will tear the paper. If your wanting a nice looking map when it’s all said and done this isn’t it.

You cannot always tell with a map, could be too much detail or too little. I will use Nav/Gps on the trip but I like a map to get the big picture, look at off-superslab alternatives given I am a motorcycle guy. Got the map all marked up for my next 1500 mile Jaunt and as soon as the weather brakes a bit, I am out of here. BTW, if you are a moto head....go to motorcyclemisadventures.com

I enjoy this. Even in today's world of GPS and Navigation systems, I enjoy taking the time to look at a map to plan out a road trip. And this, combined with a road atlas book and their sightseeing guide book, is just what I wanted for a couple of upcoming trips I have.

I bought this to keep in my bug out bag in case GPS systems go down in a SHTF situation and I need to know how to get somewhere. It's exactly what you'd expect buying a map. A giant, folded up piece of paper with a map drawn on it. Can't get any better than that.

Kids today need to see a good old fashion map instead of just leaving all the traveling up to google maps. I bought this for my 2 sons who will be driving soon and need to see, touch and study the layout of all the major highways. thanks for keeping these reliable maps on the shelf!

I bought this for my cross-country motorcycle trip. While it can't give intricate road details for each state, it does do very well on interstate and state roads to get you where you need to be. Besides, I do like maps on paper rather than my phone or laptop.

I’m in California and there’s fires and power outages. You need a paper map if your cell doesn’t have service. I learned the hard way. I’ve added this map to my emergency kit kept in my car. 👍🇺🇸

I am 73 yrs. old and my eyes are not the eyes of a young person. Letters and numbers too small for me. If you have great eye sight then this map would be great. It is not the map makers problem, but I wish I could get a map will larger print.

Seems to be sturdy and has a super amount of detail-cluttered really.

I can plan a trip all on a single page. I usually plan out my stops traveling with my RV and I can just put it up on office wall with a couple of pieces of tape. I use removable page markers cut into strips for my stops and when I done I can reuse them again.

Nice, but I would rather it was all on one side.. You have to flip it to see the other half of the country

I needed an up to date version of the map for emergency use. If the nav goes down, you are SOL. Good to have in the emergency kit! Rand is the gold standard for this type of map. I am happy.

Great map but I wish there was a laminated version. I ended up buying some self stick clear laminate, and doing it myself. The map will not last without some sort of protection if you intend using it.

Was so glad to find this map I had been everywhere trying to find one could find atlas but not what I wanted. So want to say thank you for keeping this product available. I’m not a phone savvy person don’t use gps so guess that still makes me Old School.. only thing I wish it had been was a wipe able easy. Would for sure buy again. Thank you for making my life easier.😊

Unclear what a review for a folded map should be, but looks like Rand McNally has nailed it again! Country and states appear to be right shapes, correctly ordered - what's not to love? It's a map.

We're going to use this to highlight the highways and byways that we've traveled in the past, and hang it on the wall.

My husband and I are retired, we are going to take a trip around the country looking at Presidential Libraries, and so we are marking this map of the whole U.S.A. to set up a trail to follow as we educate ourselves. The map is in color, the highways are red, blue and yellow, and points of interest are marked. An excellent map.

This took an amazing amount of time to get here . If it had to be printed, this should have been told about before ordering. Would I purchase again. NO!!!

Nice clear road map clearly outlining states and many cities. We're using it with map tacks to identify where classmates have migrated to as part of a class reunion.

I know who thinks of but a map now that we have gps? But this is so great to have a full version of the U.S. we are planning a long trip and we are able to mark out each area we want to go to and physically see! Very good!!

Not quite as detailed as expected but overall, it's a map. It did have an odd smell at first. Strong enough to make my car smell. Either it's gone away, or I've gotten used to it.

Only major routes are depicted (mainly interstates). Not good for zombie apocalypse if everything fails... Good size for wall hanging.

Good map covering major roads in US

It was nice to have on my road trip across the states, but it was sometimes difficult to read because of the tiny font. It looks nice and I'll be framing it to put my road trip on my wall.

Typical old style paper map. Easily tore but did the job..... just not long.

This map was invaluable when we couldn’t use gps on our cross country travel. We also had sites we wanted to make sure to drive to that weren’t the “shortest” route so we were able to chart our course with this map.

I bought this to attach to a cork board assumimg the listed size is correct. It isn't. The actual size is 28"x39.5".

Bought this for a road trip across the good ol' USA. And it was a lifesaver! Soooo many places did not have a signal of any kind, so I couldn't use my phone's GPS, nor the stand-alone GPS that I brought as a back-up. Praise the day for low-tech, I only get lost once.

You NEED a real paper map folks !!! when the zombie apocalypse comes your iPhone will not help you for long !!

Didn't pay attention - thought it was a laminated map.

Text is small however what would I have expected. I have to use my glasses :). Worked fine on my 3K trip.
