Tons of spelling and grammar errors, words in the wrong place
The read was easy as I figured it would be, kind of insightful but the grammatical errors throughout were annoying and the sentence structures were odd, often with words that didn’t belong in the sentence. In the era of digital corrections for just about everything you need for writing it’s surprising. Not awful not great.
Useless
The cover looks cool even though there is a grammatical error on the cover. The book itself has no relation at all to the title. It seems to be mostly copy pasted from a high school psychology book that defines what psychology is and then goes on to describe the various parts of the human brain and their functions. There were a few typos but not many. It is a self published book that did not have a professional editor. I'm not too worried about that. I'm focused on the information inside. There was nothing about influencing human behavior or reading body language. One of the final chapters about "dark psychology" simply discussed pyschopaths and people that will lie to you to get what they want. There is no useful information at all other than the entire book just being a list of definitions- first defining what psychology is, then defining what the brain is and what it does, then defining "dark psychology" i.e. manipulative behavior. The whole thing reads like a high school essay that has largely copied and reworded a high school psychology book. Amazon shouldn't even sell this book in my opinion. It would be like if I bought a book on how to repair my car and it just gave me a definition of what a car is and the history of auto manufacturing. I wasted my money on this. On the good side its well organized and readable if you are interested in an essay on psychology. I might read it if I'm in a waiting room and there is nothing else to read, but beyond that it's a waste of time.
Easy read, but not very insightful
This book is probably best suited for people without any knowledge of psychology. It took me 2 hours to read it from cover to cover, but it wasn’t very interesting or thought provoking. Aside from that, the pages are filled with typos.
Very educational and presented in "layman's terms"
I enjoyed every chapter of this very informative book. From the origins of psychology in ancient times to the breakthrough therapies available to people now, it covers many aspects of this interest science. There are great sections on brain anatomy and function, different theories of emotion, types and applications of hypnotherapy, and much more. This was an easy-to-read book that keeps the reader interested throughout.
Self help
Easy to read and understand the history of how people are, helps you to understand the why's and how's that make us who we are and to better understand people
Just my opinion.
Book was ok.
I wanted to love it...
I just finished this book. The time it took me to complete it from start to finish was around three hours. However, this book has many (I counted four) grammatical and/or spelling errors. While this isn't a deal breaker for me, this does make it distracting for me. The book has absolutely zero sources cited. Although the information in the book seems accurate, this makes the book feel more like a high school essay. This book also feels to me more like definitions of different subjects pertaining to psychology as well as mental illness. One other thing that bothered me about the book was it's random double spacing throughout the texts. All that being said, it doesn't appear the book has an editor to ensure this stuff wasn't published like this and sent to paying customers. In my opinion, some of the content in here sounds more like the authors opinion and like you're talking to a friend that's giving you life advice. All of this is obviously subjective and coming from my personal opinions after completing the book. I did however find the book to be comforting and enjoyable to read still. It doesn't touch on much I hadn't already known but the points that I did take from it seem like they would be useful in the real word. The book makes perfect sense to me. I personally suffer from generalized anxiety and clinical depression. My goal here isn't to tear apart the author's work as I am well aware that nobody is perfect. Myself included in that statement. I do see the work that Mr. David Cooper put into this as it seems to me it came from another person suffering from similar issues. That is how I was able to find comfort in this. The errors just reminded me that we are all human and we all can't be perfect all of the time. We would probably be "crazy" if we did think we could be. So all in all I'd say just know what you're getting when purchasing this book. Don't expect it to be written by a medical professional because it isn't and doesn't claim to be. As far as self help books go, I can see how it would help people just becoming familiar with the topic. Which it does say for beginners on the cover. I must have glossed over that when purchasing it. See, nobody is perfect. I would like to see some proof reading done on a product for sale. Maybe he was just getting tired or maybe he himself has anxiety and his mind races from thought to thought. Who knows why silly mistakes happen but like I said this still wasn't a deal breaker for me. Overall I am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone just beginning their journey on bettering themselves and others. Which I am fairly certain was the authors goal.
He phoned this one in. I hope the $ was worth it.
Nothing in the book was new or helpful. If you need definitions for every psychological disorder, treatment definitions or large print this book is for you.
