Change the picture you carry of yourself in your mind's eye...Change your life!
Maxwell Maltz was a plastic surgeon in the middle 1900's, and though his work miraculously transforms his patients' outward appearance, he discovers that his surgeries were effective on only a percentage of his patients as their internal picture of themselves had not been updated alongside the physical change. This book expounds upon the philosophy that the internal picture one carries in their mind's eye of themselves directly affects a person's sense of confidence and well being. As a boy I found this book in my dad's small library. Reading it helped me to see how we come to own facets of ourselves; unhealthy facets, that make us generally unhappy with ourselves. Disowning those facets is as simple as creating a new picture of oneself! I used the principles in his book to successfully walk away from smoking; simply picturing what my life would look like as a non-smoker. A well thought-out and articulate work from a very compassionate human being! As an homage to Maxwell Maltz; whom has so influenced my life (and obviously my health), I have cited his writings in my book for students, homeschoolers, self-teachers: "Take a Slice of Time." A Life Transformed
I'm barely on page 66 and couldn't wait to write a review. After only 66 pages my life is starting to turn around for the better. I've gotten a promotion at work and praises from family and friends over my willingness to act and striving for success. The principles applied in this book will change anyone open enough listen. Effort, willpower, man on the street white knuckling your way through is not the way. One must have a sense of surrender and instead of letting fear stand in tour way, put that fear behind you and let it push you forward. I can personally atest that this book works!
What the best advertisers, marketers, and salesmen already know and use to manipulate you
The essence of this book: "We act, or fail to act, not because of "will", as is so commonly believed, but because of imagination." (Pg. 35) Understand how this power is used so you can use it to be your own driver. A famed marketing book even says that marketing is a war for your mind. Once you wake up to the war you will never see things quite the same way again. The best marketers do these two things, 1) grab your attention, 2) then implant an image in your mind. They know you're behavior will be derived from the images they are planting. Psycho-Cybernetics gets it.
That which doesn't kill you really does make you stronger... it's just a matter of how you choose to see things.
One of the best self help books I've ever read... written in the 60's by a plastic surgeon to help those still disfigured after reconstructive surgery get on with life, it will give you skills to accept and be at peace with almost anything life will ever dump on you. Once you read this you will realize how many recent best sellers just regurgitate knowledge and wisdom that was already available 50 years to centuries ago, now for the sake of making a buck. This was recommended to me back in 1976 when I was 19, has made all the difference in the world, has also made a profound difference to everyone I have ever suggested this to and helped through crisis (and still do now, 2016.) When everyone is running around with their heads cut off you'll be the calm one wondering what the fuss is all about... able to maintain perspective and focused on what's important and needs to be done personally and professionally when either or both worlds seem to be falling in on you... I've more than survived brain damage (more than once) , divorce, career ending disability, cancer, premature death of those closest to me.. things I never expected... and can say that which doesn't kill you really does make you stronger if you happen to have the right set of coping skills in your bag of tricks. When people marvel how I just keep on going and wonder how I do it.... and I say... read this book... Every moment you are alive is a gift, that's why its called the present. be happy, be well... make the most of what you do have.
This book is an absolute gold mine of information! It's a fantastic read!
This rating is solely based on the physicality of the delux edition of this book. I am a book collector and this one had to be on my shelf. The contents are absolutely amazing and life changing and it is a book I highly reccomend reading for people of all ages who want to better themselves. Now, I was so excited to receive my delux edition of this amazing book! Unfortunately I was disappointed when I took my book out of the box and saw the cover say red gilded pages, and there was not a single gilded page in the book. I collect leather bound treasures and was so excited to add this book to my collection. I'm going to try to return this and get it replaced. Hopefully I'll be able to update this review! Update: I received my replacement, unfortunately I had the exact same issue. Luckily customer service is fantastic so they are sending me 1 more replacement and I am going to send this one back!
A foundational perspective
This book has been a source for many of the most influential thinkers of our age, and it’s easy to see why. It’s filled with a philosophy rooted in common sense, that also manages to broaden our perception to a cosmic level. In fact, the author takes us from the smallest specks of our genetics and neurons and synapses to the expansive universe surrounding us, and our likeness to God. I recommend this book to any who seek wisdom and a foundational perspective upon which to build and grow a life full of hope, love, and personal energy.
Sorry.... very petty......
Sorry.....attacking Positive Thinking as your premise for your self- help system is petty to say the least. The funny thing is that I found out about Maltz and bought the book because Norman Vincent Peale plugged him in one of his books....something that Peale did for other authors as well....I usually get the book and get some good insight but in this case right off the bat we are told positive thinking doesn't work....which of course is nonesense.. and the format of Peale's books are attacked as well ( numbering key points at the end of chapters....success stories about people who have used positive thinking )....Maltz doesn't name Norman Vincent Peale but it's obvious who he is referring to....Positive Thinking was out before Maltz...a lot of the concepts are rehashed and repackaged here....Maltz does use anonymous case examples.....Peale of course uses positive imaging....Maltz oversimplifies positive thinking in order to shrug it off and sell his system....like I said...Peale plugged his book with a positive quote.....even though this guy was putting him down....thank you Norman Vincent Peale for helping so many people and always taking the humble high road....
A Book Ahead of its Time (and Ours)
This is the only book you need to read to be happy. I want to thank Mr. Maltz for this book, and express my regret that I did not find it when I was like, 12. I knew it was a good book the minute I read "You are not inferior. You are not superior. You are YOU". I knew it was a good book when I read about how Maltz dismisses obtaining positive self image through "willpower". How many of you have heard well-meaning friends and coworkers say "think positive" about something that troubles you? How many of you have wondered why this well-meaning advice seldom helps? Maltz hits the nail on the head when he tells, and illustrates, why willpower and forcing positive thoughts into your head does not work. AND....he specifically tells you how to change your thought process so the positive thoughts come naturally. He gives you simple (but important) exercises to help you obtain and use the concepts he teaches. I am a firm believe that once you have a positive image, life seems to turn out better. Not only does it look better through clear (instead of mud-shaded) glasses....but your new found self image will help you get the things you want. It will give you the power to go after what you want because you finally feel worthy. Instead of brainwashings and piecemeal advice, Maltz lays a solid groundwork using pure logic as to why YOU are worthy, and how you can convince yourself of this fact. He even gives concrete visuals to aid his lessons (healing emotional scars, much like facial scars). Emotional facelift. This man is a genius. Do yourself a huge favor, buy this book and read it. Then read it again.
nicely bound
The binding is VERY nice, looks very luxe and feels good. The font is a good size compared to a paperback I bought a few years ago and never finished because the font was so small. The red, black and white cover is actually just a sleeve, not a dust cover. That was a surprise and I often use the flap of the dust covers as book marks. But that's not a big deal. I was expecting the regular size of a hard cover book. Had I read all the info I would have seen that it is smaller but I would have purchased anyway. It would be nice to have a little ribbon bound in for a book mark since this is pit together as such a luxurious product.
Get the original
The original is excellent as it is. The version that was edited by Matt Fury is not bad and might make the book a little more accessible to a younger audience. Dont bother with the New Psycho-Cybernetics, edited by Kennedy. I found that he muddied the waters more than clarified. Of course, these are just my opinions. Make of them what you will.

Still A Great Book
I originally read this as a condensed book in Reader's Digest magazine back in the early 1960's, and then bought the book itself. After several moves, it was lost. I recently repurchased it due to it's past impact on my thinking. A primary point that the late Dr. Maltz emphasized was his observation that plastic surgery had unexpected results with different people. For some, a minor correction caused a major personality change for the better. For others, even where the cosmetic change was more pronounced, the person's personality changed little, if at all. He attributed this to the person's innner / self image. Another key point was the power of visualization, that, if vivid / realistic enough, can have the same effect on the brain as if actually seeing / doing, a point now used regularly in sports training, et al. Both these points and others helped me immensely through my teen years and into early adulthood to break out of my "shell", and minimize the tendency to prejudge outcomes or approach change / the unknown negatively. The fact that his book continues to sell, and that there are several spin-offs, is testimony to the timelessness of these points.
Straight Shooter
In an effort to understand why I have a strong tendency to "doubt" myself in many situations where I rationally know I excel, I bought this book and read it cover to cover. I found the author Dr. Maltz to be incredibly insightful and the no nonsense way he delivered the information was rather refreshing. I've read my fair share of "self help" books and I can honestly say that most of them carry on a lot about psychological mumbo jumbo, but NOT this one! Dr Maltz is a serious straight shooter and he really just says it like it is. I found many of the ideas he presented to cause "ah ha" moments inside me and the information is also very relevant, even in todays world which at first I thought might be an issue since this book was written many years ago. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a way to better understand their self-image and in essence make it better. By far my favorite part of the book is the idea he delivers that we don't need to dredge up our past and relive it and "figure it out" in order to get over it. He just basically says, forget it, and move on! I LOVED THAT!! It makes me feel free from past baggage that I thought may have been holding me back. Really a great book! If i had to say something negative, it would be that the font was kind of small ;)
Was supposed to have red gilded edges on the pages, but didn't
This is a great book and I would rate the contents 5/5. But the product was shipped without the red gilded page edges that are even described on the outside of the package. If the seller will send me the correct product I will change this rating to a 5/5, until then they get a 1/5.
Positive thinking stuff you've heard before.
The classic positive thinking stuff, timeless. What you think about most, is what you'll experience. There you don't need to read the book. I was especially turned off by the "God" and "Creator" stuff. There's not need to turn to religion on a book based on "research studies".
Excited to read but no red pages
I am excited to read it, however I’m bummed that I didn’t receive red gilded pages as advertised. Amazon asked if I’d like to return it before replacing a new one, however I didn’t read in the comments that a woman had the same issue.. returned but was resent the same kind of book.
My favorite book
It’s seriously my favorite book so far. I have read many self help books and this is like the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (another amazing book) on steroids. I haven’t bookmarked anything in it because the WHOLE entire book is filled with so many amazing points. So I’m reading it once completely and then I’ll go through and re-read and mark it then. This is the only book I’ve ever wanted to read once so thoroughly and read again.
Maltz exposes the true power of the mind
Everything is possible if you believe... the power of the mind is incredible. Amaze yourself. We are capable of so much more than we are taught to believe. If only they taught this in school. This is what we should be teaching our kids. Psychocybernetics doesn't teach you what to think, but HOW to think in such a way that your entire life will be transformed. Improve yourself in any area, sports, your job, your love life, simply by readjusting your approach to the world. Maxwell Maltz exposes the secrets of how powerful our thoughts are. And he offers scientific proof to back it up. Maxwell Maltz tells it better than most anybody else I've read. I first encountered this book back in the early 80's. I didn't know it then but my life was being transformed into something pretty amazing and this was one of the books that helped me change the entire course of my life. Many books passed thru my hands but this was a keeper. I sent my sister a copy nearly 20 years later in the hopes that she could restart her life in a happier new direction.
Life improving book
This book pulls thoughts you may have had out of your head and explains them on paper. This book will build self confidence because the writer is able to explain why you may feel less confident in some areas and how to overcome those mental obstacles. I was so impressed, I also bout a hard copy of this book for my adult daughter.
Get the deluxe addition!
Love the deluxe edition. I LOVE the red color gilded pages and the quality of the book in general. (Everyone already knows how great this book, so I'm going to focus on the physical aspect) The book is the perfect size to put in your purse, not too small. The hardcover vegan leather is sturdy.
Not what I’ve expected.
The content of this book is amazing, I gave you t 3 stars because I was specifically buying deluxe version which I previously owned but gifted to a friend. This one doesn’t have gilded page edges, red ribbon place marker. I got kind of upset.
Incredible Experience
The mind is more powerful than you think. Your thoughts, equal your emotions, which equal your actions. If you're not taking action - whether in health, wealth, love, or happiness - then it's your thoughts holding you back. Must read!
Great book
I purchased the updated version of this book first (edited by Dan Kennedy), and then bought this one. I would definitely recommend this one, because although Dan Kennedy means well, the updated version just has too much stuff in it, and it's easy to lose sight of the forest for all the trees, so to speak. This book has all the nuts and bolts of psycho cybernetics in it, and you won't need another one if you really study and read it. If you're really trying to change your life, or a certain habit, or any other kind of personal change, this is the book for you. It's the science of how the mind works - and it's more fundamental than anything by Tony Robbins, The Secret, Hypnosis, and NLP. This book is extravagant and foundational for personal change and I'd recommend it with the highest level I possibly could for everyone. I've bought 5 extra copies, and gave them away to friends and family; that's how impressed I am with it.
The most important book in my life
This is a easy to use guidance tool for real life. Clear reading , and easy to understand instructions give you a motivational message to live without worry and anxiety. The book scientifically explains how human brain works and how should we navigate our brain in order to succeed in life. Just go for it!!!
one of the most powerful books you will ever read
honestly, quit wasting your money on cheesy current generation self help books like "the secret" or "the power of now". i'm only 26 and this book has helped me profoundly, increased my levels of happiness, self confidence, pretty much curbed my general anxiety levels, and has me looking at life from a whole new perspective. the author maxwell maltz wrote a book like this from the bottom of his heart, and you feel how contagious it is coming off the pages. i also have it on audiobook and listen to it going to and from work. it makes a difference trust me, because i NEVER write book reviews on amazon. i've only read it three times in the past month since i've had it and am now reading "zero resistance selling" by the same author and will also be purchasing "zero resistance living", the 90 day program, from the psycho-cybernetics.com site. if you want to understand why you act the way you do, why you perceive yourself the way you do, how you can gradually change that and KEEP it that way, and have plenty of aha moments about yourself, get this book. don't misunderstand, you will have to put in the work like anything else in life, but you WILL end up recommending it to everyone you know after you read it, believe me. my mom and my brother have now both read it and have both wondered why they didn't stumble upon this sooner, and they are practically non-readers. you are worth it, get on this already.
This should be Required reading.
This should be required reading in Junior High and High school. I wish I had found this book when I was in school, it would have saved me a lot of grief and growing pains. This is one of the best tools I have found for overcoming mental obstacles, most of which are self inflicted. Get your feelings hurt easy? This book will help you understand why and overcome it. Low self-esteem? You will find reasons for and exercises to eliminate those undesired behaviors. A gold mine, so simply laid out and explained. I've already recommended this to several people, one in sales, as I am of the opinion that this should be "required" reading for everyone who wants to be happy, fulfilled and successful in their life.
Foundational book for personal development
I would not be successful without it. It helped overcome childhood trauma and personality proclivities.
Cramed pack with pointers read for everyone
Everyone who can read should get this book. A great gift to give anyone. This seriously touched on everything that should be touched inherently comes to the humans mind and worry. So many pointers to undo so much negative things we face everyday and how to approach and respond better.
Easily the best personal development book ever written (The original book, not the "new" one.)
I'm referring to the original Psycho-Cybernetics, not the the rehashed ones by different authors. It looks like the kindle version is not the original book. Amazon needs to fix this error. The original Psycho-Cybernetics is likely the best personal development book ever written. Used by the Lombardi era Green Bay Packers in their championship run. Used by many professional athletes and used by business people who earn over a million dollars a year. Has changed my life the most out of any personal development book I have read. If you want to stop wasting time and start getting results read this book over and over.
Red ribbon missing
No red ribbon. The book itself is great. Good feel and beautiful presentation. Came shrink wrapped so I’m confused why the red ribbon was torn off before it was wrapped.
Sad. Isn't what the sleeve around it describes.
No gilded pages. No ribbon bookmark. Very sad. I was excited to add this flashy piece of art to my collection of leather-bound books. Excitement gone.
Good book. Missing some of the "Deluxe edition features". Would reccomend.
Great book with nice durable binding and cover. HOWEVER not sure if this goes for every copy but my copy did not come with "gilded page edges" or a "red-ribbon place marker" as the disposable paper cover boasts it is supposed too. Obviously that is not a big deal and has no effect on the book itself but a ribbon place marker would have been very useful. Overall would reccomend this self help classic.
EXCELLENT BOOK!
This is my favorite book of all time. I actually ended up purchasing this book for 3 of my family members. I highly suggest you read this book!
Looking at your live from a different perspective
Great advice on how to improve the quality of your live. Providing examples and stories to a logical path to a successful live you control.
Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz
I originally read this book some 45 years ago and thought it was incredible then. But rereading this again is truly AMAZING. This is one of the BEST ever common sense "self help" books ever written! I LOVE this fantastic book written in 1960!! I am so glad that I am again reading it and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone interested in enhancing and developing clearer goals, a more self confident self image and an overall Happier and Healthier Life! It is a truly EXCELLENT and timeless self improvement book!! It deserves 10* Stars! **********
Very insightful
This book was a very insightful read. It made me think about what no longer serves me and what I should think if I want to be more successful.
its amazing that these principles that were written originally by Maltz ...
This book rocks !!! its amazing that these principles that were written originally by Maltz over 60 years ago have survived the test of time and are still working amazin for everyone that takes them to heart and follows the directions. A few times he refers to bible scriptures and its amazing how well the concepts of believing go hand in hand with biblical principles.
I read this book few times. You should too.
How you can train yourself to do things using your thoughts. Book is written by plastic surgeon but great Maxwell Maltz is great psychologist as well. I read this book once every couple of years and trying to make my kids to read it as well. I hope one day they would take my advice since book is very useful and applicable on almost any aspect of life.
becoming more happy with there lives
This book describes many techniques an individual can use to improving their self-image, attaining their personal goals, becoming more happy with there lives, and gaining control of our creative mechanism. Maxwell lays out a pretty powerful argument of rational thinking and is quite convincing in regards to his pursuit for happiness.
Classic book to get your sh$% together.
It is important to get one's stuff together. This is a timeless book written by a very perceptive individual. Many paths lead to his conclusions. I'm not a religious person and it is clear that Maltz is, which would normally irritate me. However, the content of this book is very pragmatic and refreshing. I don't think anyone can get much out of this book if they don't do the exercises and re-visit these ideas on a regular basis. It is a great book for gaining awareness of one's self image. For the price, I recommend this book to anyone. And I do so frequently.
Transcends time
I'm so upset that this book has been out for so long and I'm just finding out about it NOW!!!
Amazing text. but no Gilded pages, colored endpapers, or red-ribbon place marker as advertized.
Love this book! but had specifically purchased the book for the aesthetic look. maltz's original classic text. I originally received the book with no gilded papers, red-ribbon place marker, and colored edges. Returned it. I was sent a new one and it came with everything BEAUTIFUL.
One of the Most Powerful Books I have read!
This is a book well worth your money. Dr. Maxwell is a highly intellectual man and has the ability to make the most complicated things seem simple. If you allow to accept the powerful advice that Dr. Maxwell has to offer, it will change your life for the better. Fair warning; this book does have Christian influences in it. Therefor, if you are a Christian this is a perfect book for you, but if your not you are just going to have to tolerate when Dr. Maxwell talks about God. I well also advice you to buy the deluxe edition because it contains the original writings of Dr. Maxwell. Here is the link to the specific one that am talking about:
Life-changing read
I used the advice presented in this book to bring about major change with great results at least twice. First, when I sprained my knee and tore my ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament), I used the concept of striving towards a goal and thinking of my physical body as a servo-mechanism to heal myself. Where I got the method of healing is a whole 'nother story. But the concept of driving yourself towards an image of Health instead of trying to get away from disease really helped. It no longer mattered what exactly was wrong with my knee - whether it was a partial or complete tear, or whether one or two menisci had been torn, and to which degree. The idea was to focus on the solution instead of the problem. It took me about 3 months to get back to living a normal life, where I could dance, run, and even do heavy squats again. The second time I used this concept was when I had completely exhausted my system as a result of emotionally and physically draining work that I had been doing for a long time and for too many hours per week. At some point, all of a sudden, I got a whole host of physical and emotional problems, the worst of which was a pretty severe case of depression. I changed my job, and went in for different therapies, some of which helped to a degree. But I attribute most of the success, especially in the emotional part, to Psychocybernetics. You see, different therapists analyzed my condition and tried to heal each of the causes that might have had an ill effect on me. This made me focus too much on the causes, which were the problem, instead of focusing on the solution. Once again, I armed myself with Psychocybernetics and went to work. It took me about 3-4 months to feel almost 100% again. But the most important thing that I remember was that as soon I started to focus on the image of health and think about all the things I would do as soon as I was better, that's when my healing really took off. Buy it. Use it. Best, Phil Saparov
That's like the power of positive thinking
The following news release appeared in 1967 about the Green Bay Packers: CHICAGO - The big thing with the Green Bay Packers now is psycho-cybernetics. That's like the power of positive thinking, only the name is fancier. Maxwell Maltz wrote the book on psycho-cybernetics. Not many people ever heard of Maxwell, but they know his readers. Bart Starr is one of them, and so is Zeke Bratkowski - both Green Bay quarterbacks. Even Coach Vince Lombardi reads what Maxwell has to say. Don Chandler, the Packer punter, had the book opened in his room Friday afternoon, alternately making his thinking more positive and freezing his mind by watching a soap opera on television. He had borrowed the book from his roommate Jerry Kramer, a Packer for 10 years. It just makes you know what you can do, what you have inside yourself, said Chandler, wrapped in a sheet as if he were about to address the Roman Senate. It has really caught on with the team this year.
Success breeds success
This is a awesome book. It has helped me to focus on my goals. Additionally, it is very informative as it relates to health, wealth and happiness. Get yourself a copy
Book is small in size.
Wonderful for those who love to enlighten themselves!
great
great book
Read it, it wonderful
It is a wonderful book that everyone should read. The doctor recognized the need to see the 'inner beauty' of people and I loved the chapter on where to find happiness. Great book marilyn
what a great read!
I think I will actually read this again, for the second time this year! This book is great! It tells you how you can totally change your life by the way you think. I actually could relate to some of his cases in the book, but when I read it, I was actually too depressed myself to snap out of it. I tried but ended up getting some additional help and now I am back to myself! I would love to reread this book and although it did help a little when I was really in my funk, I bet this time around, will be much better!
Excellent book
This book reads like the quintessential book on the Law of Attraction. Go figure, it was written decades ago and is still in print. It's written in a simple style with a lot of example stories. Really fun to read. I just wish I'd read it years ago.
This is an amazing book which I will read and reread to really ...
This is an amazing book which I will read and reread to really absorb what it has to offer; What I like the most are the self exercises; The author doesn't just suggest what to do to change your self image and achieve success, but how to do it with practice exercises. Great great resource;
Like.
OK!
I Buy It As Gift To Everyone I Care
Amazing cover, pages, and obviously the book is the best self help book ever that all life coaches and other coaches are using, just not giving any credit!
Psycho-Cybernetcs: I Wish I Had Read This When I Was 20 Years Old!!!
This is a terrific book, filled with concepts that you can put to work right now. The knowledge contained in the work that Dr. Maltz has articulated is amazing. It is an entirely different and fresh way to look at life. You really owe it to yourself to make time to read it. I recommend it highly to everyone.
MUST READ
A classic book for business and personal development. It should be in every business leader's library.

Finished reading the book. Couldn't get enough of the sage advise written in these pages. The guidance provided in this book is golden!
Powerful Reminder of Our abilities
This book served to remind me of the power of the mind and what happens when we give ourselves goals to pursue. If we can think it, we can accomplish it.
CLASSY-LOOKING BOOK
Paid less for a beautiful "Deluxe Edition" than I did for the paperback!
False Advertisement
Per the online description and the book jacket, the product should include "guilded page edges, colored endpapers and gold-stamped lettering on the case," and none of which was representative of the item delivered. Extremely disappointed.
Great book!
Great book!
Excellent read!
Excellent content in the book! Just no bookmark string as promised on the packaging.
This book is different`
It's so easy to see how this book has sold over 30,000,000 copies. I can honestly say that I think this book has ended my search for the "perfect" self-help book. After reading all the glowing reviews I decided to buy this book. Once I started it I couldn't put it down. I've had the book for one week now and I am already seeing results. About 3 years ago I entered into the world of sales and all of a sudden I became painfully aware of my self-image or my self-esteem as others call it. I became very self-conscious and started down a slippery slope into the world of negative thinking and emotions that weren't helping me at all. So I did what any person would do who wants to overcome their limiting beliefs and learn how to overcome negative thinking and I started buying self-help litereature. my library is chocked full of books from all the greats. Well I learned something from all the books that I read, but I just felt there was always something missing. I didn't feel like I had the information that I needed to really turn it all around. I tried "Affirmations" etc. with marginal results. Then I found this book. Maxwell talks about how we act, feel and perform is in direct relation to how we imagine ourselves to be. You may need to read that last sentence again because it's what helped me to start putting it all together. He then gives techniques for changing your self-image and overcoming your negative thinking that really works. I'm very grateful to Maxwell for writing this book. He really put his heart into it and made a masterpiece! Please don't make the mistake of not buying this book. It could well be the best money you ever spent! God Bless!
Mindful Influence!
Great information to understand the human mind.
Life changing
Awesome book!
Funny name. Great book!
“Creative striving for a goal that is important to you as a result of your own deep felt needs, aspirations and talents (and not the symbols which the ‘Joneses’ expect you to display) brings happiness as well as success because you will be functioning as you were meant to function. Man is by nature a goal-striving being. And because man is ‘built that way’ he is not happy unless he is functioning the way he was made to function—as a goal-striver. Thus true success and true happiness not only go together but each enhances the other.” “Every human being has been literally ‘engineered for success’ by his Creator. Every human being has access to a power greater than himself.” ~ Maxwell Maltz from Psycho-Cybernetics Psycho-Cybernetics. Funny name. Great book! Maxwell Maltz was a world-renowned plastic surgeon who discovered that, while some people’s lives changed dramatically after he altered their appearance through plastic surgery, some people’s lives *didn’t*. He deduced that the primary factor that differentiated these groups was their self-image—not what they saw in the mirror but the images they had of themselves in their MINDS. Cool stuff. He spent the second half of his career merging this self-image psychology with the then-popular science of “cybernetics”—which studies how things like guided missiles or “servo-mechanisms” hit their targets through a clear goal and constant adjustment of their course. Here are some of the Big Ideas: 1. Cybernetics - Servo-mechanisms & you. 2. The Success Instinct - We’ve all got it! 3. Imagination - The first key. 4. Dehypnotize Yourself! - Starting now. :) 5. Rational Thought - How to use it. Here’s to getting our Psycho-Cybernetic on as we set inspired goals, imagine our ideals, take action as we correct inevitable mistakes and practice FEELING our success. :) (More goodness--including PhilosophersNotes on 250+ books at http://www.brianjohnson.me)
Great Book
This book was recommended to me. I read a lot of self-help, and this was really enlightening (although not quite as easy a read because it was written by a doctor). But still loved it!
Great book
Great book
Great book - life changing if you follow through a classic
If you like the original version, this is a nice collectors edition for your library. All the information is still relevant today. Dr. Maltz work is timeless.
This is Gold!!!
Took this amazing deluxe edition of Psycho-Cybernetics book to visit my daughter over thanksgiving holiday - she picked it up, start reading and kept it. :)
Good advice
Good book has great advice in it! Although all throughout the book it talks about men. So if you’re OK with everything being from a males perspective.
This is the one!
After spending some years on intense personal development ,I finally got this book. I'd heard about it since I was young. But, never read it. I should have. It is the granddaddy of personal development books. Truly an inspired, powerful piece of writing. BUT, do get the original version. Despite the years and social changes, this is the one to read.
Excellent
This book is timeless. Revealing. Have read several times over the years. This original edition much better than the rewrite, in my opinion.
maxwell maltz the Man

Wish I would have found this 20 years ago in ...
Wish I would have found this 20 years ago in my 20's, though I may have not been ready for it. Still extremely relevant for today. When you get that it is all a story, and that your self-esteem is what frees you, it is almost miraculous.
Very good and practical
I love this book. It has very good and practical advice that you can follow, to enrich your life. It is possible to follow this advice as it makes sense (no mumbo-jumbo) and it is not difficult to maintain these new learnings at all, I will definitely reread this book again and again.
The Thermostat of your Mind...Change it and you change your life!
Great book! Highly recommend read. You will never become more, than the image you hold within your mind! So basically, if you can't see yourself doing/being/achieving something, in your own mind...you will not succeed in that.... You have to see it and believe it in your mind first for it to come about. Self Image is so important and this book does a great job and explaining and a plan to change that self image.
Already has changed my life for the better.
Wish I would of knew about this book sooner. Already has changed my life for the better.
Interesting Perspective
The things that impressed me the most about this book are: 1. The age of it, combined with the nature of the information put forward by the author. 2. The fact that the author was a medical doctor (with a specialty in plastic surgery). I really like that this information is so forward-thinking. Dr. Maltz was definitely a man who thought outside the box, and in this case, it's a good thing!
Necessary Read!!
This is a really great book and very practical to everyday living. It has helped me in more ways than any other book has. It basically sets you up for a new journey in whatever you want to do.. I keep the practices told in this book very close to me and helps me greatly!!
Classic masterpiece still shining
After reading quite a few self-help and self-examination books, this is the book I was waiting for. Although at first I was quite skeptical because of the age of the book (I though "Would there be something new for me, would the ideas be still valid?"), after first several pages doubts dissolved and I was entirely caught. I believe all the reviews have said already enough, so I'll keep my review short. This book has all that I want from it: - Down-to-earth style without exaggerations. Yet very strong and moving content, explaining how human brain works, what brings us happiness/more life, and how to achieve it. - Positive :o). Gives reader so much energy into his life. - No easy-read. Should be read definitely more times than once. Simply put, this is a must read in the area of self-help/psychology books. Some of favorite quotes: "The self-image is changed, for better or worse, not by intellect alone, nor by intellectual knowledge alone, but by "experiencing." Wittingly or unwittingly you developed your self-image by your creative experiencing in the past. You can change it by the same method. " (page x) "One of the most pleasant thoughts to any human being is the thought that he is needed, that he is important enough to help and add to the happiness of some other human being." (page 97) "Since man is a goal striving being, he is functioning naturally and normally when he is oriented toward some positive goal and striving toward some desirable goal. Happiness is a symptom of normal, natural functioning and when man is functioning as a goal-striver, he tends to feel fairly happy, regardless of circumstances." (page 101) "Our habits are not accidental, or happenstance. We have them because they fit us. They are consistent with our self-image and our entire personality pattern. When we consciously and deliberately develop new and better habits, our self-image tends to outgrow the old habits and grow into the new pattern. " (page 108) "To give the other person credit for being sincere, if mistaken, rather than willful and malicious, can do much to smooth out human relations and bring about better understanding between people. Ask yourself, "How does this appear--to him?" "How does he interpret this situation?" "How does he feel about it?" Try to understand why he might "act the way he does."" (page 115) "Man maintains his balance, poise, and sense of security only as he is moving forward--or seeking. When you think of yourself as having attained the goal, you become static, and you lose the security and equilibrium you had when you were moving towards something. The man who is convinced that he is "good" in the absolute sense, not only has no incentive to do better, but he feels insecure because he must defend the sham and pretense." (page 137) "Regardless of your feelings, force yourself to mix and mingle with other people. After the first cold plunge, you will find yourself warming up and enjoying it if you persist. Develop some social skill that will add to the happiness of other people: dancing, bridge, playing the piano, tennis, conversation. It is an old psychological axiom that constant exposure to the object of fear immunizes against the fear. As the lonely person continues to force himself into social relations with other human beings--not in a passive way, but as an active contributor--he will gradually find that most people are friendly, and that he is accepted. His shyness and timidity begin to disappear. He feels more comfortable in the presence of other people and with himself. The experience of their acceptance of him enables him to accept himself." (page 139) "If responding and reacting to negative feedback does not take us further down the road to our own goal--or serve our ends, then there is no need to respond at all. And, if response of any kind gets us off course, or works against us--then no response is the appropriate response." (page 199) "If life adapts itself in so many varied forms to act as a means toward an end, is it not reasonable to assume that if we place ourselves in the sort of goal-situation where more life is needed, that we will receive more life?" (page 261)
The Secret to Success - Programming your Brain Housing Group
Here is another book that I said, "What a corny title." This book was recommended to me by an independently wealthy entrepreneur. It took me several years to finally decide to read it. Wow. I wasted so many precious years to discover the secret to programming my brain to achieve my goals in life. Once you read this book, you too will recommend it to your closest friends and associates. Powerful information. By the way. . . don't waste your time reading other books written by ghost writers in the Maltz Foundation consortium. Dr. Maxwell Maltz's original book is the only one you need. I bought this hard cover edition for my library so it will remain for my children and grandchildren.
I was IN it. It changed my views
My mind was turned, and given a direct mention. There are parts that give clarity to what most parents, or coaches don't tell you that well. The advice on happiness and forgiveness are something of a new-age, but conventional, as well. I understood every part of it, and it is a book I look back into. 1) After reading, I took a different approach to my world 2) Before reading, I hadn't known some of the topics, and their expenditure 3) While reading, I was hooked. I could keep going for its lessons I'm a scientific theorist who ranks as a "genius", and has published his own book. ...And will recommend this book to anyone with eyes.
Seems kinda like a classic of sorts
Really interesting and surprisingly practical. Eye opening. Gives some simple and powerful tools. Seems kinda like a classic of sorts. Found all but the the last couple chapters to be that way.
a good read
The book has a good amount of information much of what I've read or heard from other sources previously, I found the the final three chapters to be most interesting and worth re-reading many times. However, the whole book should be read first because others may find it otherwise to themselves.
Damaged
Book damaged when I received...been out of town for a month so just opened today and says I’m past date of return
Psycho- Cybernetics Great little book
Psycho- Cybernetics is a great little book that will answer many question and help you overcome alot of lifes obstacles. This prooves that good things come in small packages. Great Book! definetly a book to have in your collection.
Excellent!
A really good book, It will make you think about a lot of things, the point of view of the writer in so many different topics will help you understand and create your own opinion.
Live up to your potential.
Life changing for the better.
Great book
Very helpful information great read
Fabulous
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end! It brought about many aha moments, which I call spiritual awakenings. It makes you think, opening up your mind to new possibilities. We are conditioned beings, and now it's time to break free from those limitations!
Great book for talking action of your life
This book has reshaped how I communicate with myself. It is straight forward text and makes you want to keep reading. Thank you Maxwell Maltz.
Excellent book
Better than the current crop of self help books. Inspiring and convincing. Can't believe this was written 60 years ago.
Good for the mind
This is my 4th copy of this book, having bought my first in 1974. Made a remarkable difference in my attitude and always good for a little mental tune-up.
a must have
a must have in your book collection
A good companion to the original book
A pretty good condensation that sums up the main principles of Malt'z groundbreaking book. I would use it as a companion to the original book though and not just rely on the tapes because the book is densely filled with helpful information not found in the tapes.
Unlock your personality
I stumbled upon this book by accident, having read a profound article that mentioned this book as one of its sources. I bough this book for less than 10 dollars and I must say, this is one of the best investments I have ever made. Easy to read, this book's ideas MAKE SENSE and are profound. I'd like to save my biggest reviews for one chapter only: Unlock your personality. I read this chapter at time when I was depressed, because I didn't get along with people too well. I was reserved, shy and was a social dud. My entire college years, I've been a social dud. My social life sucked. It sucked because I didn't know how to get along with people - I was irritable with people and might have appeared mean to many. The chapter: Unlock your personality might have changed my life. To follow the chapter and its advices precisely requires faith in yourself. A great leap indeed. Don't think, says the late Dr. Maltz -and act. Thinking only complicates things further. Don't think, don't over analyze yourself and just BE. It might as well be a magic bullet. It was for me, I think. Read that chapter over, and over, and over and it will eventually click. Be yourself is the message - and don't think. In social situations, don't think - and just be. Just be. Read the chapter, and you will understand what I mean. ;)
Good condition great read
Super good read
Don't listen to the comments it isn't original...
From what I can see, this is in every way the original text, not a remake updated one. There are other versions that have different authors added and updated text (example, saying "people" or "person" as opposed to "man") however everything here points to this being the correct book with original text. This is the granddaddy of self help, and if you read Tony robbins, Bob proctor, Brian tracy etc you'll recognize where they borrow the ideas from this book. If you read and practice it this and other books will change your life, but don't buy it and just no read it, no matter what. That would he a wasteful shame.
Book features not true, but great book otherwise
Great book - would give 5 stars, but deluxe edition mentions gilded page edges - which is not true
Proven CORRECT! by readers' results and Modern Psychology!
Most effective and useful psychological book I have ever read!,(have read it and studied it, at least 20x, over the last 30 years!). The great footballer Jim Brown and the Shot Put Record Holder Parry O'Brien used it too! Even the great modern philosopher Bertrand Russell used this book to improve his life! Today's psychology calls Dr. Maltz proven psychological theories "Positive Psychology", and it is the most used therapy method used today! And yes, most every "Self-Image" writer has ripped off some part of Dr.Maltz "Psycho-Cybernetics". A tremendous contribution to humankind! Dr. Maltz is with the angels.
The Original, and still the best IMO.
My favorite self-help book. Will truly help you master how your mind works. Highly recommended.
"This book is an oldie but goody"
If one reads this book with an open mind and simply enjoy what it says, it will change the way you think about almost everything. I really enjoyed the concept of how the mind works. I also liked how you can you apply this new found knowledge in life's everyday problems and adventures. It really kind of pulled me out of a deep negative state of mind decades ago.
Still the best
The book that started LOA
New doors of opportunity
The information Mr. Maltz provided in this book has caused me to look at myself and all I do, a little differently. I have always known that one's self- image was important, but never to the degree that is explained here. It has opened new opportunities for me as well.
A great book!
I see why I had a hard time finding a used book, this is a keeper and deserves to be read over and over. A great book!
i really do recommend it to everyone it's just that good
Everyone and their moms should read ths book, It could change your life, i really do recommend it to everyone it's just that good.
This is a great book. You need to get into it
This is a great book. You need to get into it. It can be life changing. Excellent if you want to enjoy life more.
Nothing more to say...
I have read it over and over and over again. Amazing. This book changed my life. Period. Get it now! (was going to just write "This book changed my life. Period." but Amazon wants more words)
Maltz gives practical advice when it comes to happiness and success
An absolute classic. Maltz gives practical advice when it comes to happiness and success. Where many Law of Attraction books lack the hard science to back up their assertions, Maltz never fails to back up his insights with objective facts.
Three Stars
The quality of the book is good, but the content is a bit different than I anticipated.

Great Self-realization Tool
I had used this book forty years ago to reorder my life and it worked very well. I purchased this copy for my Grandson. I wish him as much or more success than I had. An excellent book
Great quality!
I was hooked with the first paragraph in the preface.
Do not let the past, negative people or negative ideas about yourself hold you back! Get this book and Heal yourself
This is a truly Powerful read, it starts off slow but I assure you if you keep going you will end up devouring as I have and twice to boot, This book is so worth your hard earned money and you will certainly earn that back a thousand fold after reading this book. My father recommended this book to me years ago but I was hesitant in purchasing a copy, he obviously sees and saw something in me that I was unaware of and I am so glad he did! I am grateful I have a teacher like him. After I read this book, I realized just how much he truly loves me.
Must read for those interested in the power of thought
If you are interested in the law of attraction, positive thinking or the power of thoughts, I recommend you try this book. Although this book was written more than 60 years ago, it gives a very interesting perspective on the brain and how our thoughts affect our lives. I love the viewpoint expressed by the author and the ideas he presents. My one caution with this book is the psychological perspective is outdated, as science and medicine have changed drastically since this book's original release. But overall, I loved this book, the author's ideas, and the way it made me think and feel while reading it. Definitely a must-read for those interested in the law of attraction and the like.
Amazing book
I love this book. I'm reading several and this is strongly recommended in my mentorship program. I just wish I read and studies this 30 years ago.
Great book!
Love this book! It is a MUST read for anyone who wants to be focused on their goals and to remain positive!
The grand-daddy of the best self-help books
The name sounds goofy, but it was of a different era. However, Psycho-Cybernetics is the grand-daddy of everything from Zig Zigler to Tony Robbins. Skip the middlemen and get the original. ;-)
The Hardcover is a much better version. Less pointless exercises
The best self improvement book ever made
Simply Awesome

wonderful read. this book is nearly 60 years old and it still delivers.
Awesome book
Very insightful book.
Outstanding book!
This is a brilliant peice of work. It is one of the best, most helpful books I have ever read. This book is easy to read and it would be useful for most anyone regardless of your emotional state. If you are struggling, this book will certainly help you. Even if you are doing well, it will help you to do even better. So much practical advice and tips in just about every area of emotional health conceivable. I recommend you get this book, read it, re-read it and refer back to it from time to time.
Maltz' insights still potent after many years.
Dr.Maltz' seminal text provides fundamental insights into one's own behavior and that of others! Laymen and professionals as well can benefit by accessing this book.
every kid should read this TWICE in high school
Here are the guiding principles. Get them from this book and prosper, or learn them the hard way and suffer. Either way, these are the principles of success. Better to learn them sooner than later.
Unlocked My Success Mechanism
As of last night, I finished the most amazing book called Psycho Cybernetics, by Maxwell Maltz. I am proud to say this is the first book that I have completed all the way through in over a year. I bought this book back in 2009 when I was fighting the boredom in Iraq and remember only reading a few chapters. After I learned that it was a recommended reading by some of the leaders in Empower Network, I decided to dust it off and see how the top earners have used this book to unlock their success mechanisms and start living a more fulfilling life. And boy, I'm glad I did! This powerful book has provided so much value to my life. I now know the power of imagination and have started to imagine successful outcomes when going through a sales presentation, public speaking presentations, and any areas of my life that I'm not completely comfortable and confident in. And let me tell you the concepts in Psycho Cybernetics works! I've had my best month in personal training sales at the gym with over $3,000 in sales in just the first 3 weeks. One sale worth $1,950. My previous best was $1,800 for the full month. Check Out The Full Review At My Blog: http://www.empowernetwork.com/kennuehs/blog/unlock-your-success-mechanism-with-psycho-cybernetics

This is worth your time to read and re-read! so much good and wonderful information. everyone should own a copy and read once every year!! really!!
Great self-esteem builder
I love this book. It helps build self-esteem. A very good read I read this book back in the 90"s and it helped then. So I thought I needed a refresher course, now
Five Stars
Our daughters love the book.
A Work of Genius: Just What I Needed
This book is amazing. Other people have written much more comprehensive reviews and I suggest you read them. I'm not articulate enough and I don't feel much like taking the time haha. If you take these words to heart and make a true honest effort to practice the exercises here, you will become a happier person. I made this review the get this book closer to a 5-star average rating. I know I will be reading this book over and over again until I've nearly memorized every page. It's just that valuable. As someone I know would say, "I just can't over-hype it enough!"
Hope he finds it as useful as I did
I have read Maltz before. Book was for a friend. Hope he finds it as useful as I did.
I read this fine book 57 years ago on first printing
I read this fine book 57 years ago on first printing. I have applied since the practices recommended by Dr. Maltz especially getting my subconscious to do the work.

This book is the basis of all the books I've read since 2008. This sits up there with Think and Grow Rich imo. Read it
will make your life or change it if you work it
I first read this book in the mid-70s and it changed my life. Unfortunately, I became lazy and fell back into old habits after a while. I recently ordered 3 copies - one for my husband, my 26 year old daughter and myself. My husband is amazed by the book. It is once again helping me focus in a positive manner and get on track to enjoying a more enriched life. I hope my daughter puts it to good use. :-) I highly recommend this book to everyone and most especially to young people.
Five Stars
One of the great books of the past. Every person should read this to get on track.
Great book, albeit in need of some minor adjustments
Ok, this book, like many of its genre, accentuates the need to live in the present, and harbor on previous mistakes. It debunks many myths, and in doing so, encourages the reader to practice heresy. Clearly, the book contains some religious innuendo, yet it makes no attempt to proselytize its readers (perhaps if assumes all readers will be devout Christians). Oh, it needs to be updated for modern times. According to the version I read, Babe Ruth still holds the record for lifelong home runs and Don Larsen is the only pitcher to throw a perfect game (though he probably still is to do so in the World Series 😎 ⚾️)
Great book
I read this book back in the 70s, and it helped me sooooooo much. I bought several of these to give to grand children and friends.
Psycho Cybernetics
This book has a very interesting concept which it talks about working with your inner self. This is were the great thoughts evolve from.

Excellent!
I liked it because it helped me recognise that I was unintentionally creating unfavourable situations for myself. Also how to overcome the situation.
