When World War II breaks out, Miriam’s fiancé, Henry, is drafted and sent to a conscientious objector camp. But when Henry feels called to fight on the front lines, he goes against the Amish church to follow God’s will—forcing Miriam to choose between her religion and her heart.

It’s 1943, and Miriam Coblentz and Henry Mast are nearing their wedding day when the unthinkable happens—Henry is drafted. However, since he is a part of the pacifist Amish tradition, Henry is sent to a conscientious objector Civilian Public Service camp. When he leaves for the work camp, his gaping absence turns Miriam’s life upside down. Little does she know it’s only the beginning...

When Henry returns home, he brings news that shakes Miriam and their Amish community to the core. Henry believes God has called him to enlist in the army and fight for his country, leaving her to make an important decision: whether to choose loyalty to the peaceful life she’s always known or her love for Henry.

Two worlds collide in this unforgettable debut novel, providing a fascinating and rare look into Amish culture during World War II. While Henry is battling enemies across the ocean, Miriam struggles between her devotion to Henry and her love of the Amish way of life. One question is at the bottom of it all: will she follow the rules of her religion or the leading of her heart?

Authentic Historical Amish Story

These days, most of the books coming from major publishing houses earn their four or five star rating since the author can write well and the editing process fine tunes the story. "Promise to Return" by Elizabeth Byler Younts uncompromisingly does this. This reviewer reads and reviews many books. Among the Amish novels read, "Promise to Return," authentically relays the the strengths and weaknesses in the Amish faith. Mrs. Younts depicts scenes where adherents draw strength from the community, but also where the Ordnung restrains individual freedom, even to severely restricting the members. The practice of public individual confession before the church is one way the Amish exert control, threat of shunning is another, this book portrays the cost of both for the individual. This book is a well-crafted, authentic story. Couldn't put it down! A truly good book.

Extremely well written and edited WW2 story about how the Amish were

impacted by the draft, their beliefs and societal pressures. Elizabeth Byler Younts is a talented writer who knows what’s up in the Amish genre! That’s not surprising as she was born into that faith and remained until her parents moved on when she was a teenager. This has enabled her writing with an authenticity not found in most other offerings of this genre. “A Promise to Return” follows the story of a young couple caught between the Amish and English worlds by the war, the rules of the church and the pressures of family and friends. It seems as if they are caught in a storm of catastrophe and will never find a way back together. Younts could easily have fallen into dramatic histrionics but she did not. These pages are filled with honest emotions and heart rending conflict. The characters are engaging, the setting is accurate and the history is true. Amish fiction is usually an enjoyable but light and fluffy few hours for me. This was meaningful, educational and a “Promise to Return” for the next volume📚

I cannot wait to read the next one!

A nice book is fun, and a good book is satisfying. A great book is fun, satisfying changes you, and nourishes your soul all at the same time. This is a great book. I truly dislike the genre of Amish fiction—when I’ve tried it in the past, I’ve found it to be either saccharine sweet, portraying the Amish as perfect, or rather hateful toward them. Though I am a Christian, I don’t tend to be a big fan of most Christian fiction in general either, as it is often preachy and/or cheesy. Imagine my surprise when I picked this one up, and could not for the life of me put it down. It is certainly an exception to all of those stereotypes. The Amish are portrayed as real people with real struggles. The author also didn’t shy away from showing the pitfalls of the less than ideal theology often embraced by the Amish. This book is also definitely an exception to the Christian fiction stereotype as well. There is absolutely nothing preachy or cheesy about this novel. Not only does the storyline grip you and draw you in, but while never preachy, the book is full of simple truths in Christian faith regarding forgiveness and grace that touched me deeply. Watching Miriam’s transformation in her faith brought me to tears as she began to really understand forgiveness and grace. Elizabeth Younts not only created characters that I grew quite fond of, but she wrote in such a way about loving a man in the military that resonated strongly in the heart of this military wife. More than once, tears flowed as I read this touchingly beautiful and realistic story that intersected romance, war, faith, loneliness, pain, joy, and the reassurance of God’s faithfulness to his loved ones. As a busy homeschooling mom (and college student!), it’s not often I have the opportunity to read a novel in less than 24 hours, but with Promise to Return, I didn’t feel like I even had a choice—I just couldn’t seem to put it down. Some books stay with you long after you’ve read them. I know with certainty that with the depth of this one, it’ll be with me a very long time.

An All Around Good Story

It has been several months since I turned the last page of "Promise to Return", yet it is a story that stays in my heart. Ms. Younts' writing style has a quiet strength and elegant beauty. There is a scene where Miriam is walking home alone from a Singing "wrapped up in a blanket of darkness". Then a carriage steals up behind her and her friend offers her a ride. The sensation of the darkness and the closeness of the two characters are like they are the only two people in a vast world. That is how I felt while reading this dear story. Like I was close to the characters and even though I was on the outer circle listening and watching, I was invested in their story and their struggles. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story, history and romance. It has substance. I am looking forward to reading more stories from this author.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!

This is by far the best Amish romance I have ever read and I have read at least 100 give or take a few. The Book Description, the fact that the time frame was during WWII with with the Amish beliefs on war and that the author was born Amish told me enough where there was no way I would pass this book up. I am so glad that I didn't. Thank you Elizabeth Byler Younts for writing this book. I hope that all who love reading about the Amish or Amish romances will treat yourselves to buying and reading this book. Henry and Miriam's story is not one to pass up. This book is fantastic! I went and pre-ordered Book 2 of this series, "Promise to Cherish". I am anxiously waiting for the day it is released. I know I will love Eli's story too. I am also going to buy and read "Seasons: A Real Story of an Amish Girl", the authors Grandmother's memoir.

An Awesome Read!

I read a lot of romantic contemporary fiction, not a lot of historical. But every now and then, I get sucked into a story from a different time and place. And that’s what happened in Promise to Return by Elizabeth Byler Younts. A different time—WWII. And a different place—an Amish community. Add in a love triangle with two very different men and what’s not to like? I got so hung up on Miriam’s struggle to choose between Eli and Henry, and more importantly what her family and church wanted her to believe versus what Henry thought God was calling him to do by serving his country, that I couldn’t sleep until I finished the book to see if I would get my happy ending. Thank you, Elizabeth for bringing me into the Amish world and letting me experience another person’s life in a way that makes me feel as if I’ve lived it too.

Unlike Any Amish Fiction You've Ever Read

Most folks know that the Amish are pacifist, but do you know what they were doing during WWII, when men were being drafted? What might have it been like if an Amish man choice to go to war? If you like Christian fiction, historical fiction, a story about those left behind when the men go off to war, or are just curious about the Amish, you should check out her book. It not like any other Amish fiction I've read. The story will grab you from the very beginning. Henry who has been working in one of the camps for conscientious objectors during WWII feels lead by God to go to war. It is a calling that he doesn't fully understand but one that he feels that he must honor. However, the Amish do not allow their men to go to war as it is a violent life and breaks the commandment Thou shalt not murder. His fiance back home is left grappling with her love for him, and her love for the Amish and her life among them. She faces increasing pressure to give him up. Through out the course of the book, both characters will come to terms with the fact that God's will is not always what we would like or plain to discern. An excellent book. Elizabeth Byler Younts has a real talent for capturing the raw emotions, and you will cry repetitively - be over come with joy, and experience depression and heartbreak. It's hard to believe this is her first novel.

I Enjoyed The Characters and Story Line!

I enjoyed the storyline. It was unique in that the decision to enlist and deploy for the Amish is much more difficult and different than from anyone else. The struggles and stress that we who have deployed loved ones is tremendous. The stress and struggles for this Amish group was much worse. It shows that if we follow God's path, the end will be joyous, but the path may be the hardest you've ever walked.

Authentic Amish voice and stellar WWII novel

Authentic Amish voice from a young woman who is from an Amish background. This is Elizabeth's second novel, her first self-published to much success, with good reason--she's an amazing writer. Tightly woven novel about the consequences of a young man's decision to obey God's voice rather than go by all the Amish rules and the impact on his fiancé, also. Lots of bibliotherapy options here. There are family deaths, injuries some major, separation, isolation and yet knowing that one special love is truly meant to be. And she delivers a tender HEA that will have you begging for her next novel.

Powerful story from a gifted writer

This terrific book strikes a wonderful balance between authenticity and drama — part sweet, part gritty, part wrenching, and part inspirational. In short, it’s a book that both gripped me while reading and (in a good way) has haunted me since. Most fiction set within a subculture either openly bashes that subculture for the ways it differs from “normal” American life or portrays the subculture in an overly-idyllic way that’s patronizing and therefore equally insulting. It’s refreshing to find a book depicting a subculture — the Amish, in this case — that starkly illuminates how very odd many of their beliefs and customs are in contrast to those of the mainstream but also how utterly human the characters within that setting are. Beyond its authenticity and portrayal of the Amish, however, what’s best about the book is that the author is a gifted storyteller fully exercising her talents to tell an engaging and terrifically-paced tale. It’s very strange to read a book set in such an alien environment but yet feel like these characters are people I’ve known my entire life. Although the situations may be peculiar because of the setting, one can easily recognize the petty jealousies, smoldering rivalries, and the crushing pressure to conform faced not only by the younger characters but also by those who have lived their entire lives within this environment. Kudos, also, to the author for broaching the subject of war and using it to frame this story. Although the clash between the Amish beliefs and the realities of war are sure to cause controversy among readers, it is a testament to the writer’s courage to tackle such a powerful subject and use it as a backdrop for this equally-powerful story.

A truly good book.

impacted by the draft, their beliefs and societal pressures. Elizabeth Byler Younts is a talented writer who knows what’s up in the Amish genre! Real and Heartfelt

Full disclosure: I'm not an Amish fiction reader. But I am a fan of realistic characters and genuine emotion, and Elizabeth Younts delivers on both counts. Thanks to her own heritage, she's given us an authentic perspective on an Amish community that neither glamorizes or demonizes the lifestyle, but rather paints it in all its virtues and vices with a cast of very human characters. The main plot involving an Amish man who gives up his pacifist upbringing to follow his conscience and fight in World War II and the woman who risks her place in the community to stay true to him will earn her fans among both historical fiction and Amish fiction readers. Highly recommended.

An Unexpected, Yet Wonderfully Written Story

I will start off by saying I've never read an Amish story before as this type of novel has never interested me. However, when I read the backcover blurb as to the premise of the story it intrigued me as I love to learn about World War II and the different things that revolved around what was happening during the time. What intrigued me the most is reading about how the Amish community reacted to one of their own deciding to enlist and how Miriam had to either choose her love of her family and the community she has always been around or the love of her man, Henry. I was riveted and finished the book in 3 nights before going to sleep each night to the point I spent the last day reading until I finished it. I'd recommend this book for anyone to read. It's different than you might expect.

Promise Kept

I loved that this was the debut novel of a new writer who has invited us through social media to follow her journey as she labored on her manuscript. It had a different plot than other Amish fiction and what added authenticity to it was that the author was genuinely Amish and not contracted to write about the Amish. The lovely exposition, the realistic characters, and the intriguing conflict kept my attention through to the end. Now that this promise has been kept, I am looking forward to her next book, A Promise to Cherish, in which she promises to share more about Eli Brenneman. I can hardly wait.

Pulls at your heart

Oh my goodness! There is so much going on in this story, but I guess the main thing is that if you are felt led by God to go a different direction than you or others have planned, follow his leading. There may be big bumps in the road, but in the end you will see the reward for following. This book was truly amazing. It grabs from the beginning and holds you straight through. At times I felt so involved that my own insides tightened up and I had to put the book down, go outside and walk around the house in the cold air to relax and come back in to read some more. I will be reading the next book right away!

Loved this book even though I'm not an Amish Fiction reader

I'm not a reader of Amish fiction as I lean more to contemporary writers. Elizabeth, however, has changed my mind. Her writing is authentic due to her family background which makes her characters real to mainstream readers like myself. Elizabeth's detail to history is woven in so subtly yet profoundly. I can tell she put a great deal of research into the book. I encourage anyone who has bypassed Amish fiction to read Promise to Return. Like me, you'll probably change your mind. Can't wait for the next in the series!

Love these Amish stories

Love these Amish stories. This one had a different story about the Amish during World War 11 and their role in it, mainly as conscientious objectors, but some who actually fought for the country, and the struggle of families to cope with it . Of course, this involved a young couple in love, and the book ends without a real solution, being left open for a sequel. The author was born Amish, but was raised outside, so is well acquainted with the situation.

Enchanting Read!

The authors own experience in the Amish community shines through and provides an honest viewpoint to their ideals and beliefs. Elizabeth Byler Younts weaves a story of love, heartbreak, duty, faith, and fortitude with the story of Miriam and Henry. Her words on the page paint pictures in your mind that are vibrant and real. It was difficult to put down as I read the first half of the book in one sitting and the other half the very next day. Can't wait for the next read from this author!

WWII from the Amish perspective.

This is an enjoyable story about a time in our history that is never tiring to read about. What makes the story extra interesting is the point of view of the Amish characters in the story. The author has a unique perspective having been raised Amish. I highly recommend this book.

Haunting

Absolutely loved it! I found myself wondering and worrying about the characters when I wasn't reading. There is so much heart and drama. It drew me into a different world and time. Riveting and emotional. The story is so beautifully written, that I found myself re-reading sentences. It's completely cativating and I highly recommend this book, even to the "non-Amish" reader.

Great story

I really enjoyed this book and my heart hurt for Miriam and Henry and all of the Amish people in the story. I just don't understand how they shun the people they love. The church should never control their parishioners like that. A relationship with Jesus is a personal one that is between God and the individual. The church is just a body if believers worshipping together.

Fabulous!

What a wonderful story. I loved the characters and I looked forward to getting it in my hands each night, yet I didn't want it to end. The story really made me think about my faith and how that fits in with my customs and traditions. I'm very excited for the next book by Elizabeth.

Excellent Read!

After all the hype lately about the Amish, I approached this book with some reserve, but the author drew me in immediately. Having first hand experience with shunning over the last twenty years, I've felt frustration many times with this part of Amish religion. But as I've learned with Amish and most any religion, some rules just are, there is no logic to much of it, but it often makes people feel safe to have a person or person's in authority to answer to. This book describes that point well. While I have chosen a life outside the Amish way of life, this story depicts Miriam's experience in an entirely authentic way. The painful experience of feeling each of her friends and family members withdrawing from Miriam because of her heart's choices was true to life and vividly expressed. My father served as a youth at a hospital, during the war. It was great to have a picture painted by the author of what it may have been like to have had that experience. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end!

Love it!

I loved this book! I couldn't put it down. I have 4 small kids and still read it in a weekend. I found it more interesting knowing that Elizabeth was Amish as a child and has lots of Amish relatives. Her perspective is great because she's experienced it first hand. I am anxiously waiting for the next one and the third one.

Again I love to read about the Amish people and their values ...

Again I love to read about the Amish people and their values and ways of forgiving and giving. We could learn a lot from these Amish People. What a challenge for the young people in this day as they get their chance to go out into the world.

Wonderful Read !!

I loved "Promise to Return" by Elizabeth Byler Younts; it was a page turner. This was my first time reading a book written by Elizabeth Byler Younts. I plan on purchasing the next book in the series, Promise to Cherish.

Beautiful!!!

Excellent!!! Reading... gifted Elizabeth's books to friends... Amazing, Christian Author... I love reading Amish Novels... God bless you and your amazing family...

Interesting story

I enjoyed this story and I think the author did a super job covering all the different rules and regulations that the Amish must follow and obey. I learned much about what the young men had to deal during war situations. Thank you for a great story.

Hooked me from the start

I couldn't put it down. Younts writes with a unique voice and her character's emotions are so real. A moving story you don't want to miss. It kept me guessing till the end. Can't wait for book 2!

Heartfelt, beautifully written story!

The love and anguish will keep you from putting this book down! My heart would beat so fast as the western union telegram was read. An unbelievable story of faith, hardship, and hope.

Great great read

I will say my favorite genre is Historical fiction with a few amish fiction here and there. I come from an amish background and most amish fiction is just not realistic for me. Promise to Return was totally realistic, with characters that have 'real' feelings and struggles. I absolutely love this book and had a hard time putting it down. I am looking forward to the next book. ~christina

Promise to Return

Great book. Loved reading about the trials and tribulations Miriam went through. God moves in mysterious ways as you find out as you read this book.

choices

Promise it is is complicated to keep promises because of unknown life circumstances I have found in my interest in amish culture that we all want family happiness and a good life. Simple or not

Interesting Amish story during the war years and the conflict the Amish men deal with when drafted.

Excellent story that is an example of the strict rules of the Old Order Amish Church. So thankful that we do not have to live under the law but are saved by grace.

Very moving

A great inspirational story of love, faith, and God's callings. I learned a lot about amish families and their beliefs in the war.I highly recommend this book.

Fantastic Story

This debut novel is one of the best first novels I have ever read. Elizabeth Byler Younts weaves her historical romance with the rich flavor the Amish community. She reveals the Amish life without lecturing or overloading her work with research. She does it beautifully though the characters she creates and the story world she builds. As a reader, you know these people and understand why they are the way they are. Set in World War II, this romance places the heroine, Miriam Coblentz, in the throes of a difficult decision: to stay with her people or join with her betrothed, Henry Mast, who has made the decision to fight for his country--a choice that violates so many of the Amish beliefs. This is the tale of how the couple comes to this moment and the choices they must makes a result.

World War II reality in the Amish district

I verify purchase. I bought and read "Promise to Return" while completing a short nonfiction story about a local Indiana CPS Conscientious Objector Camp ran by Mennonite but included Amish COs. The story is not only compelling reading as a fictional novel, but it is so accurate as to how COs and family were treated, and the struggles of the COs, that this fiction by Elizabeth Bytler Younts is as true to life as it gets. This story could have really happened. And with the author's insights into the Amish lifestyle that she grew up in, the book has the ambiance of nonfiction reality. A tip of the straw had, or combat helmet, to Ms Younts. In my own research, through local newspaper accounts of the time, there were COs who changed their mind and decided they had to do their duty and fight for freedom, disregarding their religious conflict, especially after Pearl Harbor's attack. WWII tested many men and women, on the war front and on the home front. WWII was the first American war where drafted COs had a service alternative rather than years in prison. Author Younts provides a look into American history as well as fictional romance.

Promise To Return

It's 1943, and Miriam Coblentz and Henry Mast are nearing their wedding day when the unthinkable happens--Henry is drafted. However, since he is a part of the pacifist Amish tradition, Henry is sent to a conscientious objector Civilian Public Service camp. When he leaves for the work camp, his gaping absence turns Miriam's life upside down. Little does she know it's only the beginning... When Henry returns home, he brings news that shakes Miriam and their Amish community to the core. Henry believes God has called him to enlist in the army and fight for his country, leaving her to make an important decision: whether to choose loyalty to the peaceful life she's always known or her love for Henry. My Review: While the Christian market is being flooded by the Amish genre in the last 16 years, this one is a chart topper. Filled with suspense and the authentic voice of someone who has grown up Amish, Younts write a not-to-be missed debut novel that gives us a glimpse of Amish culture during World War II. This is the kind of book that leaves you wanting more of this kind of setting, and the writing was stunning, remarkable and absolutely magnificent. My favorite element of this novel was the portrayal of the angst that Miriam felt as she tries to decide whether or not to wait for Henry. I have to admit, I love novels that paints the hero and heroine at odds because of elements outside of their control; their parents, their beliefs, their situations, etc. I am a sucker for any story that keeps the lead characters from each other not by their desire, but by things they cannot change. This is a well written work that deserves recognition for what it is: a fresh look into the history of World War II, through the eyes of the same Amish we have all learned so much about in recent years. This book was provided by Howard Books for free in exchange for an honest review.

One of my favorite books of 2013!

I literally have a pile of books to review that is a mile high and while looking through them A Promise to Return by Elizabeth Byler Younts jumped out at me with its lovely cover. As I began to read I was immediately enthralled with the sweeping love story of Henry Mast and Miriam Coblentz. Right from the get-go I knew this book was something special because when I had to reluctantly put the book down to do the dreaded daily chores of cleaning, the characters never left my thoughts. As I loaded the washing machine there they were and as I vacuumed well they were there too! I rushed through everything just to pop back in and get caught up in the endearing, beautifully written, and deeply moving book. In the midst of planning their wedding, Henry is drafted into World War II and life is never the same. When the Amish were drafted during the war they served their time at camps instead of going into battle. Henry feels God is telling him to fully enlist and join his fellow soldiers. Shocked, heartbroken, and overwhelmed, Miriam agrees to wait for Henry. The couple is faced with many obstacles that would tear some people apart: the threat of Henry being killed, distance, an overbearing suitor who wants Miriam all to himself and a very protective father. One thing that is constant and unwavering is Henry's love for his girl and a promise he made...a promise to return.... As my pile of books grows day by day one thing is for sure...as soon as this wonderful author graces us with book two it will be at the top...

It is also a love story and how two people and their families cope ...

"Promise to Return" by Elizabeth Byler Younts is getting five stars from me! I have to be honest and say at first I wasn't at all into this book but as I kept reading I was drawn into the storyline! The author uses Amish language that is a little confusing but she explains what is meant in the next sentence without messing up the flow of the story. This book is about The Amish and World War II. It is also a love story and how two people and their families cope with Henry Mast being drafted and then his decision to join the army. This book has many surprises in it's pages but what I found to be the most surprising is that this book is written so well that you could almost feel the emotions that the characters were feeling. A couple of times while reading this book I wanted to cry. The characters actually felt like real people with real heartaches. Miriam Coblentz has many conflicts to deal with in this book, like death and questions of whether or not to follow her heart or conform to the Amish way of life, or listen to the still small voice of God's. I am going to include something that really stuck with me from the book, it is what Miriam told someone dealing with quilt, something I believe we all need to know and believe, rather Amish or not. So I guess I can say this novel as a life changing truth if we only believe, "He told me that he was only accountable to God. He wasn't accountable to the church or anyone else. Not his family. Not Me. Not the bishop. If we do something wrong, if we have dishonored our relationship with God, we answer to Him. He is the only one who can really cleanse us from our sin. He's the only one who can wash away the guilt, bitterness...the shame." The church has a set of standards and rule that aren't bad, and our actions can hurt those we love and our church. But that guilt cannot consume us or we will never be whole. We can confess to the church, the bishop, our parents, but it would mean nothing without first confessing and pleading with Christ. " This book is the first in the "Promise Of Sunrise" series. I am eagerly awaiting "Promise To Cherish" it will be available in Oct 2014. We will get to hear more about Eli, a character in " Promise to Return" I was given a copy of this book by the author for my honest opinion.

Wonderful Debut Novel

1943 Miriam Coblentz is a young Amish woman who wants nothing more than to be obedient to her church, get married to the love of her life, Henry Mast, and to become a mother. However, shortly before their marriage, Henry is drafted and everything becomes complicated. At first Henry is serving as a conscientious objector at a Civilian Public Service camp, but during this time there he learns how bad the war in Europe really is and he feels God's call to enlist. Before his training starts, he comes home on leave and tells his family and Miriam that he's going to fight in the war. His family is hurt and doesn't want him to stay under their roof anymore. Miriam doesn't understand why Henry made this decision. His attitude towards God seems to be changing as well--he so easily talks about praying to God and hearing His voice. Miriam is so confused--is she going to wait for Henry's return? And when he comes back, will he confess to the church he was wrong? He seems to be so sure he was right to enlist and go to war. Her childhood friend, Eli, is trying to win her hand while Henry is away. Although Miriam likes him, she doesn't love him, but he can offer her the life she has always wanted. Is she going to wait for Henry, or does she give in to her longing to get married in the church; to become a wife and mother, like she has always dreamed? Against her parents' wishes, Miriam frequently writes to Henry and she anticipates his return letters, but then months go by without a word from him... Is he still alive? Then one day Henry's mother and sister visit with news from Europe... One of the best books I have read this year! This author knows how to keep the suspense high and keep the reader guessing. Miriam's struggle was well done and I really felt for her. I have shed several tears while reading this fantastic book, so I advise keeping the tissues handy. I'm going to keep my eye on this author and I'm surely going to read the next book in this series. *Thanks to the publisher for providing a review copy through NetGalley.*

Great new Amish series. Can't believe it's a debut novel!

I simply cannot believe that this is a debut novel by Elizabeth Byler Younts. This book is written so well and hints that she has such a gift at writing. There was no point in this book where I felt that this book was written by a first-time author! I have always been fascinated by the Amish and how they handled the different wars through the years. I knew that they had been drafted for WWII, but I wasn't certain how the community reacted to them being a part of the war. I think that's why this book was so intriguing. Not only that reason, but also because Elizabeth Younts is a former Amish girl who left the Amish when her parents left the Amish church when she was a child. She writes with so much knowledge of the Amish lifestyle and added so many new insights into the story that I have yet to see brought up in other Amish fiction. That set this book completely apart from the rest of the Amish fiction I've read. Miriam has fallen in love with Henry, but Henry has been drafted for the Civilian Public Service because of his beliefs. However, once Henry has seen how the outside world treats the Amish for them not fighting, he decides to enlist. That means that Miriam and Henry have to postpone their wedding. Miriam battles with whether or not she is to stay by Henry's side or give into the pressures of the Amish community and move on and forget Henry since he has chosen to enlist. They considered him too far gone and didn't expect him to return back to the Amish community. Henry is convinced God wanted him to enlist, and by the end, you see why God might have wanted him to enlist. I had so many emotions throughout this book while I saw the families experience the loss of a soldier. My heart broke for Kathryn at different times throughout the book. I couldn't wait to see if Henry would return home and in what shape he would return. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I'm hoping we don't have to wait too long! _______________ I received this book free from Howard Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.

3 1/2 stars

I found the first 2/3 of this book hard to read. Nothing good happened; bad things kept happening to Miriam and her close friends and family. I understand the concept of shunning and banning from reading numerous Amish books, but this community seemed exceptionally cold. I felt thatMiriam was fairly self-centered for a large portion of the book until she started praying and her heart started changing. I like the personal growth that she experienced. I also like how the author handled Henry's situation; he didn't just bounce right back from the effects of war but he also didn't keep himself angry and apart from those who could help him. Overall, it was a decent read and a unique time period (for amish fiction). 3 1/2 stars.

Promise to Return

If you think you don't like Amish fiction, I would urge you to give this one a try before you write the whole genre off. To say it is different from the run of the mill Amish fiction book is an understatement. I never gave a thought to how World War II affected the Amish. I just assumed that since they were conscientious objectors that they would be exempt from service and then just carry on with their lives. In actuality, when an Amish man was drafted he had to go serve in a Civilian Public Service camp. Now if that isn't interesting enough, think about what would happen if an Amish man felt like God was telling him to join the Army. That is the premise of this book. Henry Mast who has always been a caring and upstanding member of the Amish community has the deep conviction that God is requiring him to enlist and serve his country. This decision has very far reaching repercussions. He was just weeks away from marrying Miriam Coblentz when he was drafted. She was content to wait for him when he was at the CPS camp but now that he is going against the beliefs of the Amish community that she loves where does that leave her? What about Henry's parents and siblings? How will they withstand this shame that Henry has brought upon their family? What about when/if Henry returns from his service? How will he fit back in to the community? This is an absolutely fascinating read. When I first began reading it I wasn't sure that I was going to like it at all. I am part of a very proud military family and the whole conscientious objector theme at the beginning of the novel just didn't set well with me. But the farther I got into the story the more I liked it. Elizabeth Younts' writing is captivating. Most likely this is because she is not only from an Amish family but she is an air force officer's wife. Both of those aspects bring an authenticity to the story. For all the Amish fiction lovers out there this is a must read. For all the skeptics this is one to give a try . . . I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm looking forward to book two in the series. It will contain the story of Eli Brenneman from Promise to Return, as he serves in the CPS at a mental asylum. Sounds like another unique book in this genre! I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Promise to Return

Lately one of my least favorite genres has been Amish books because they seem so prevalent or marketed as something other worldly like. What do I mean? For instance, one novel I was to review lacked depth, authenticity, and most of all a plot. Sometimes too the Amish and their lifestyle are highlighted as better than what others live or more along the fantasy type genre. However, I am so glad to have read Promise to Return for here is an author who was raised and lived the Amish lifestyle. Through the novel her aim to enlighten readers as to what possibly may have been experienced by some Amish communities during World War II. Elizabeth Byler Younts writes with more than her knowledge or experience; her heart is clearly present on every page throughout the book. Here is a story with characters that have depth of heart, emotions and life happenings that grip the heart of the reader; drawing them into the perspective of the main female character named Miriam and the male lead Henry. As I read the story, I became aware of how lifelike Amish communities can be, which is not as they are sometimes presented. They are people who experience joy, pain, sorrow, laugh, cry and make choices as to Who is leading their life just as those who aren't Amish do. I was reminded of the price servicemen and women pay, and perhaps more so the families during WW II. We are used to instant everything today and waiting seems like a major inconvenience and frustration. Back in the 1940's, the time between seeing a soldier off to war and hearing anything from them varied and when no word was received, that had to be one of the most heart wrenching experiences our past generation suffered! So, perhaps as you read this fictional story you might be reminded as I was that the cost of the freedoms we enjoy or abuse today came at costs we may never really understand. I cannot wait for the sequel to Promise to Return, which focuses on a different character from this first novel. Just know that this is one author to read, follow and know that she is open to engaging with anyone who desires to know more about the Amish or her own life by contacting her at [...] or [...]

Not Your Typical Amish Fiction

In Promise to Return, author Elizabeth Byler Younts has crafted an unforgettable, soul-stirring tale of the consequences of sin, betrayal, and obedience in one Amish community during the turbulent World War II era. Miriam and Henry are deeply in love and on the advent of their wedding Henry is drafted. Since the Amish are pacifists, Henry is sent to a Civilian Public Service camp, while Miriam patiently awaits the day he can come home and resume his life with her. But Henry commits the ultimate betrayal in Miriam's and the eyes of his Amish community when he decides to enlist. Hearing the plight and atrocities suffered by the Jews, Henry feels called by God to help fight for their cause. Will Henry's obedience cause him to be shunned by the Amish and drive Miriam to the arms of another? This author is amazing and I can't wait to read the next book in this series! Ms. Younts was brought up in the Amish faith which lends so much authenticity to this novel. The characters are flawed and not sugar coated as in many Amish novels. Between the pages of this book lie sin, lusts, betrayal, lack of faith, and many other faults that define us as humans. I literally could not put this book down and read 75% of it in one sitting; it was just that good! Order your copy today! Thank you to Net Galley and Simon & Schuster for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Will Henry ever be free to wed Miriam?

When I agreed to read and review the second novel in this series, I had no idea what to expect… my daughter found – and purchased – the first novel in the series, because we both are pretty fussy about reading a series from beginning to end. So I opened up Promise to Return and began reading… I purposely chose a time that I could spend an hour or so uninterrupted, so I could concentrate enough to delve into this historical Amish novel. What I didn’t expect was to read… and read… until I finally put down the book a little past midnight. I was done! Elizabeth had held my attention, refusing to let go until the very end. And it was good – very good. The story begins with Miriam Coblentz, who was almost married, until her boyfriend was drafted and sent to a Civilian Public Service camp. With their wedding postponed, she’s feeling a bit impatient. I can certainly identify with that! Elizabeth can certainly identify with the impatience – and the commitment – it takes to stand by while the man you love fights for his country. She puts such heart and soul into her novels; I can easily feel the frustration and doubts that her main character exhibits. I want to be careful not to spoil the story, so I won’t speak of what happens with Miriam and Henry; I would suggest you to read the synopsis if you want to know more about the story before you begin reading it.

Great for Amish Fiction Fans and United States Historical Fiction Fans!

I love both Amish Fiction and Historical Fiction so I immediately wanted to read Promise to Return by Elizabeth Younts. I was not a bit disappointed. When my father was alive, he met a black person for the first time in the army training camps. He wrote about it in one of his letters to my mother. He talked about how poorly they were treated and being separate all the time. So I wondered about the Amish during that time period. When the Amish men were drafted, they had the option to work in a Civilian Public Service camp because of being conscientious objectors. The Amish believe that war is a violation of the commandment “Thou Shall Not Kill”. So a soldier commits murder when he kills an enemy. Miriam Colbentz has always loved being Amish, especially how the community comes together when someone is in need. She wants to be obedient and not violate any rules. Just before the time that she and Henry Mast were to get married, Henry was drafted so he went to the Civilian Public Service. There he made some friends who were not Amish and was exposed to the world news. After he heard what was happening to the Jewish, he felt that God was calling him to enlist and protect them. This caused him a lot of torment; he loved Miriam so very much and knew that it would make her life very difficult for her. He didn’t even want to tell her why because the Amish community was sheltered from much of the world news. Miriam has to make a lot of difficult decisions from then on. She wants to marry her true love and also continue to be Amish. This story was written with great sensitivity and understanding of the Amish and the outsiders. I immediately felt for Miriam and her impossible situation which required a terrible decision from her. Sometimes I thought I knew what she would decide but situations changed and so I couldn’t find out what she would do until the end. I am very interested in reading the next book in this series about what happens when another member of the community has to serve In the Civilian Public Service. I was surprised to find out that there quite a few of those camps in my home state of Indiana when I searched on the Internet. I highly recommend this book to all Amish fiction fans and those interested in United States Historical Fiction. I received this as a win from FirstReads but that in no way determined the thoughts and ideas in my review.

Wonderful First Novel

Elizabeth Byler Younts has written a wonderful book, "Promise to Return". I am eagerly awaiting the next book, "Promise of Sunrise". Miriam Coblentz and Henry Mast have been a couple for a long time. Their story takes place in 1943 during the Second World War. When Henry is drafted, it turns their plans upside down. Because the Amish do not believe in war, Henry is sent to a Civilian Public Service camp (CPS) supposedly for the duration of the war. However, Henry is sure that God called him to enlist which he does. He wants Miriam to marry him before he is sent overseas. Because Henry is going against the Amish Ordnung, he is sure to be shunned upon returning from the war and Miriam is reluctant to cause her family more hurt. Miriam's family has been shamed once before when her sister Kathryn left the community to marry an Englisher, who is also now a soldier. The story of Miriam and Henry shows just how the beliefs of this community can dictate the actions of its members. I felt sorry for Henry most of the way through the book. I was sympathetic and irritated at the same time with Miriam because she seemed to let her parents and other members of the community dictate what she would do with her life...her, a grown woman. I was also quite frustrated for her that her siblings seemed to leave the care of their parents all in her hands. They seemed to think that she should give up her life to their patents' care while they led the lives they wanted without thought to the welfare of their parents. I always enjoy novels portraying the Amish and the kind of life that they lead, but this time I saw practices that I would have trouble living with myself. I think that this story will help me keep a better perspective when reading other Christian based novels. I'm sure that the fact that the author once lived as Amish helped make this book so believable. I received a free copy of this book from Howard Books in return for my honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own. You can find this review on my blog at [...] and on Good Reads at [...]

Loved this book! Look forward to next one!

I have finished a book by new author Elizabeth Byler Younts called Promise to Return. My blog friend Linda from Mocha with Linda told me about this book. It arrived a few weeks ago and with the holidays I've read it off and on. I picked it up and finished it this weekend. It is an excellent book! Miriam and Henry are soon to be married when he is drafted. He first goes to a work camp since he is Amish. When Henry returns later to share with Miriam that he believes he should enlist, Miriam is torn with what to do once he is gone. Since Henry has enlisted he has gone against the church's Ordnung. Should she wait for Henry to return, or should she look for love with another of the Amish boys who is showing interest in her? Miriam faces much confusion as she doesn't want to turn against her parents or Church. I enjoyed this book and the historical aspect of it regarding the Amish during the war. What a wonderful story! I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for more books by this author. The author's website is here. This book was sent to me as an influencer for my honest review.

Great Debut Historical Amish Fiction

How can Miriam choose between her church and family and the man she loves? She has always obeyed the rules of the Amish church and never considered abandoning her way of life. All she ever wanted was to be a wife and a mother--Henry's wife and mother of Henry's children. Then World War II ended all those hopes and dreams. First Henry is sent to a Civilian Public Service camp for conscientious objectors. Then he feels God calling him to enlist in the army. How can an Amish man choose to fight? How can the woman he loves reconcile her love for her family and people with her love for a man who chose a different path, a man she believes in with all her heart? Elizabeth Byler Yount's historical romance is well written and moving. The reader will weep and worry and wonder along with the characters in their struggles of faith, loyalty, and love. Fans of historical fiction, Amish fiction, and/or romance will not be disappointed in this new novel. All three elements are included making the novel appealing to all. Thank you, Elizabeth for a wonderful book. Looking forward to Book 2!

Sure to be a favorite Amish author!

Miriam Coblentz has always loved Henry Mast, but their plans are delayed when Henry gets drafted to serve in the Conscientious Objector Civilian Public Services camp. Upon his return, Henry tells Miriam that he has enlisted to fight a war that he believes in, causing the Amish community to shun him. Meanwhile Eli Brenneman seems determined to win her from Henry's arms. Will Miriam stay faithful to Henry even if it means going against her community? Promise to Return is a riveting historical novel, and excellent debut from Elizabeth Blyer Yount. I loved getting to know the characters through Miriam's eyes, I thought this book did a great job of bringing to life her struggles the challenges she faced. Miriam wasn't perfect, and that's what made her likable and relatable as a character. This book was complex and engaging, with many intertwining storylines and characters who cross paths. Overall, this was a well written debut that told an excellent story. I would definitely recommend this to fans of Amish fiction, who are looking for a fresh new author that is sure to be a favorite! Promise to Return

Miriam Coblentz can't seem to stop thinking about her intended Henry Mast. Henry has been drafted into the military and sent to a camp for conscientious objectors. The Amish have always been pacifist. When he returns home Miriam is shocked to find out he has decide to leave the camp and join the military and the war. He feels as if God has called him to fight in World War II. Miriam can not turn her back on her family and most importantly the her Amish beliefs. Will she turn her back on Henry the man she loves? I have read many Amish books but this is the first where I get a better look at the Pacifist side during World War II. To me it is apparent men are bred to defend their families and country. Yet I understand the Amish's belief and the pacifist. Women want to nurture and prevent harm coming to anyone. But in times of war we have no choice but to defend. The author has done a wonderful job in depicting the Amish stand of remaining pacifist. I highly recommend this book. Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from Howard Publishing/Simon & Schuster for review. I was in no way compensated for this review. This review is my honest opinion.

A wonderfully crafted story!

Promise to Return is the debut novel of author Elizabeth Byler Younts, and my very first experience with this author as well. I went into this book with high hopes, having heard great things about her writing style and her technique in weaving together a very enticing and beautiful story. Now that I have read this book, I can officially say that I agree 100%! Promise to Return is a fresh new style for Amish fiction, with a look into the Amish lifestyle that is different from any other book I have read yet. Mrs. Younts brings such a delicate truth to this genre with twists and turns that definitely keep the reader on their toes. Personally, my favorite part of this novel was Henry Mast. His character spoke to my heart in ways that will stay with me for a long time. His deep faith in God and hardcore belief in what he was doing was inspiring to me. Out of all of the characters in this book, and all the events written, Henry's part in it shone bright in comparison. Because of this remarkably written character, I will never forget this beautifully crafted story. If you're looking for a fresh look at the Amish that holds nothing back, this is definitely the book for you. Elizabeth Byler Younts hit the nail on the head perfectly with this one, and I have very high hopes for her future in this business. I received a free copy of this book from Howard Books in return for my honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Younts Writes Bright

Elizabeth Byler Younts has written a unique story with a fresh perspective. There's Amish fiction and there's historical fiction, but this story weaves them both together, creating something very special. Miriam's fiancé is drafted during WWII, and he is sent away to the work camp for conscientious objectors. When he decides to enlist, Miriam's world is turned upside down. Should she support the man she loves and risk being ostracized by all her friends and family (who believe it's wrong to fight in any war), or should she denounce his actions, withdraw her support, and lose the one man who can truly make her happy? The story follows Miriam and Henry as they come to terms with new personal convictions juxtaposed against the traditional beliefs of their Amish community. The community plays an important role in the story, behaving as a collective unit, according to ancient traditions. The battle between tradition and conviction plays out on the page in emotional detail as characters wrestle with what seems right and what they have always known to be right. Younts' perspective rings especially true, beyond most other writers of Amish fiction, because her family is Amish. Her insights are beautiful, tragic, and poignant. The writing is bright, clear and very relatable. Promise to Return delivers on its promise to entertain . . . and you'll return for the next two books in the series releasing next year.

brings a fresh and an authentic voice to this beautifully crafted debut novel

Promise to Return by Elizabeth Byler Younts reveals a fascinating look into Amish culture. Set in 1943, World War II invades the lives of Henry Mast and Miriam Coblentz, an American Amish couple ready to marry and settle into the predictable lives of their religious community. But Henry is drafted, and as a conscientious objector, he’s sent to serve the war effort in a Civilian Public Service camp. Then Henry turns Miriam’s world upside down—along with their entire Amish community—when he decides to enlist in the army. Soon lines are drawn and loyalties are tested, especially Miriam’s. While Henry battles enemies in Europe, Miriam may face an impossible decision: choosing between her devotion to Henry or her Amish way of life. Younts, who comes from an Amish family, brings a fresh and an authentic voice to this beautifully crafted debut novel. I look forward to the next book in this series!

Great Debut Novel

A PromiseTo Return, by Elizabeth Byler Younts, is Elizabeth’s debut novel, a historical Amish romance set in World War II. I’ve always enjoyed this time period of historical fiction, but this story gave a fresh perspective about how war might have affected Amish lives. Elizabeth’s own Amish roots gave both credibility and believability to this passionate and warm story of a romance caught in a world of conflicting beliefs. The drafting of Henry Mast stirs up even deeper struggles and questions than “to fight or not to fight?” For Miriam Coblentz, the answer to that question could mean a difficult choice regarding her roots and the man she loves: to leave or to love? I enjoyed how the author created believable and compelling characters that captured my emotions from the very beginning, transporting me into another time and place with great skill. I love reading good fiction, and I look forward to more stories from this talented author. A great debut novel. * I received this book from Howard Books in return for my honest review. No monetary payment was involved.

Could Not Put It Down

It's not often that a book keeps me up late at night - but this one did! I couldn't put it down last night until I physically couldn't keep my eyes open. And after my chores were done this morning, I was right back into it and read until the end. Elizabeth Byler Younts takes us back to WWII and an Amish community whose young men were drafted. They could honorably serve out their time at a CPS (Civilian Public Service) camp but Henry Mast couldn't. He felt God leading him to enlist. Miriam Coblentz wanted nothing more than to marry Henry and live happily in their community. She couldn't understand the changes in him after being at the CPS camp. She tries to please everyone, but can she really please anyone? Beautifully laid out, this novel will pull you through an emotional journey of love, loyalty, and faith. I highly recommend it!

A surprise pleaser

Even though I have a Mennonite background, I typically I do not read Amish. But Younts changed my opinion. Her personal knowledge of the "plain" lifestyle makes this tale sparkle with layered authenticity. She captures the truth of the emotional, physical, and spiritual struggles that lurk beneath the clothes of every religious person. While the condemnation of the "church" was sometimes difficult to read, it brought to light the lines that can be drawn and the relationships that can be fractured in the name of religion. Whether one chooses to be influenced by what others think or by the call of God upon their heart deep soul searching is required. Miriam and Henry's journey reflects the cost of following your convictions. This is a story sure to please both the Amish fiction lover and the historical romance junkie.

I didn't want to stop reading it!

I really enjoyed this book! I didn’t want to stop reading. My heart ached with Miriam and I totally related to her struggle to want to please and obey her parents and yet still follow her heart. I don’t need to be Amish like Miriam to relate to the heart’s longing to please our parents and their way of looking at the world. I still struggle with this as an adult. Miriam was so brave. Much braver than I would have been…waiting for letters for months without knowing if Henry was dead or alive…I would have gone crazy with worry. I worry when I don’t get a text back in the same day! I think the author did a great job of exploring Miriam’s world, carrying her story forward, and bringing her to a resolution. I look forward to reading more in this series!

Can't wait to read book 2

I was gifted this book via Net Galley by Howard Books Henry Mast is the only man that Miriam Coblentz has loved. Being set in WWII time, Henry is in Conscientious Objector Civilian Public Services camp as Amish do not believe in war, they uphold peace. What happens to Henry though, as one day he reveals that God has called him to get involved. I love the stories based around the Amish and their community and I have learnt a lot over the years, however, this book has opened my eyes as regards what happened during the war with such ones that became Conscientious Objectors. I found this a truly lovely book, well written and needing book 2

Promise to Return - Wonderfully written

Imagine being called to do something that your religion does not allow. Imagine being young and in love and having to watch your heart leave for an undetermined amount and waiting for any word that may be weeks or months in coming. Elizabeth Byler Younts pulls her readers into WWII where the Amish world collides with the English world while war rages. What does a young Amish girl do when her young man is called to serve as a conscientious objector? Wonderfully written and a good lesson in history when two world collide. Highly recommend!

Promise to Return, Promises a Great Read!

I intended to read Promise to Return at a leisurely pace, to take in each and every word, making sure not to miss any parts of the story... Well,..after my first few pages, I was so caught up in the story, that, "poof", before I knew it, I was reading the last page. I have the book sitting on my coffee table now, and every evening, when I kick my shoes off to relax, I peer over to the table and find my book. I can't get enough! I'm hooked on the characters, the storyline, and the knowledge that I will be reading the next "Elizabeth Byler Younts" book as soon as it rolls off the press! I am very impressed with the ease of which this young author can write such heartwarming, and exceptional stories! I have found my new favorite author!

Listening To God

This was a different kind of Amish book whereas it took place during WW II. Written by a new author who happened to have grown up Amish, this story gave more insight into areas of Amish rules and culture than I had ever read before. In fact, I wonder if my father, who served in WW II, had even heard of Amish back then. Anyway, the characters, Henry and Miriam, were about to visit the bishop to begin planning their wedding when Henry got drafted. Being Amish and a conscientious objector, he went to a work camp to serve out his time. But even though that was all that was required of him, he told Miriam that God had spoken to him and led him to enlist. Miriam now struggled, for most of the rest of the book, with a decision to follow her Amish faith and culture, or to choose to love and follow Henry. I really enjoyed this book at first. Then it started to drag with what felt like unnecessary information. But soon it picked up again and I wanted to read all night. It is such a different Amish book, but so historically and culturally interesting. I do recommend this book. I received this book through Howard Books, and was not required to give a positive review.

Promise to Return was an excellent and passionate novel!

This was a great and unique novel. I was completely enthralled with this story. I have never read a novel about how world war II affected the Amish community. I really felt for Miriam who is faced with the difficult choice of turning her back on her Amish family and culture or following the Henry the man she loves. I loved how Henry listened to God's voice and enlisted regardless of what others thought. I loved this book! This book had a depth, romance and faith that captivated me. I cannot wait until the next book in the series is released. A special thanks to Howard books and Net Galley for this Arc!

Good interesting story

I really enjoyed this story of Amish couple who face challenges due to the young man's belief he must do what he feels God is telling him to do. which conflicts with the Amish faith. Reminded me of the story gentleman in Hacksaw Ridge who dealt with same issues.

An exceptional and authentic novel

It is obvious that this novel was written by an author who grew up in the Amish cmmunity. So many details ring true. It is also unusual and much appreciated to read a story set in the past about the trials the Amish went through during WWII as conscientious objectors. This is a wonderful, poignant, heart-warming love story you won't want to put down. I certainly want to return to the promise of this writers talent and read her future books. Truly an exceptional debut.

awesome book !! A must read

I just loved this novel by Elizabeth Byler Younts.. I have never read a book about the Amish set back in the 1940's during war time. I read this book in a matter of days.. I just wanted to see what happened with Miriam and Henry.. I don't want to give to much away about the book but it is a must read... I hope there is a 2nd book that will continue this story....

Couldn't put it down!

This is one of the better books written about the Amish that I have read, it was very captivating. The depth of the characters and the decisions they were faced with made me want to keep turning the pages. I actually read all but the last two chapters in one sitting, it became hard to read through my eye-lids :) I was not aware of the Amish involvement with the wars so that was very enlightening. I just wanted to let you know what a fine writer you are and that I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Cindy

Captivating Book

Within the first 3 pages of the book I couldn't put it down. The story is endearing and has a powerful message. The author does an amazing job of depicting the emotions of the characters taking you on an emotional ride along with them. I found the different perspectives of "right" and "wrong" to be very thought provoking. A true love story!

Although the clash between the Amish beliefs and the realities of war are sure to cause controversy among readers, it is a testament to the writer’s courage to tackle such a powerful subject and use it as a backdrop for this equally-powerful story.

it was AWESOME if i could give it 20 stars or more ...

it was AWESOME if i could give it 20 stars or more i would. i hated the way that Miriam family n bestfriend done her but it was their way of life and Miriam knew it but i would had done the same thing she did.i would recommend this book

A friend recommended this one to me

A friend recommended this one to me. I enjoy WWII stories, and this was an interesting look into Amish life during the war. The story did leave me wondering, though... is winking an Amish thing? There was so much winking in this book that I almost felt like counting the times someone winked. It was distracting- no one I know in real life ever winks that much. Hmm....

Great read

This book kept me on pins and needles wondering what would happen next. I really enjoyed reading this book. Amish stories are my favorite kind of books.
