Prayers, Promises, and Devotions for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

I briefly spoke with Susan Tassone at a Marian conference in Louisville in the early 90s. She had, pardon the pun, such a fire to spread devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. She has greatly succeeded in the past quarter century. With this book, I am glad to have obtained another copy of "Prayer For Daily Neglects" (PP. 151, 152). A Poor Clare nun, appearing to her abbess shortly after her death, said praying this prayer daily freed her from the pains of Purgatory. This book not only contains many beautiful prayers and litanies for the Holy Souls but it also includes many quotes from the saints. For instance: "The eagle is the Virgin.... This eagle soars far higher, and from on high sees her prey, that is, the souls of sinners, and snatches them up to heaven in the talons of her love. - St. Thomas Villanova" (P. 163) "The holy souls are eager for the prayers of the faithful, which can gain indulgences for them. Their intercession is powerful. Pray unceasingly. We must empty purgatory! - St. Pio of Pietrelcina" (back cover) "[T]he sea! vast as it is, has limits, whereas the mercy and goodness of God are boundless. - St. John Chrysostom " (P. 126) Particularly edifying to me were a number of sayings of "Blessed Mary of Providence, foundress of the Society of Helpers of the Holy Souls" (P. 73): "Whenever anything happens, I say to myself, It has happened; and so it is God who allowed it to happen. I will not puzzle myself anymore with those two words, 'why' and 'how.' ... We must never say, 'My sufferings are too great,' because it is not true. God measures exactly the sufferings that we can and must endure for the souls in purgatory." (PP. 123, 124) "The Cross is at the foundation of every vocation. ... Those who cannot suffer cannot love." (P. 123) "Go to the most abandoned of this world, and the next." (P. 74) "Prayers, Promises, and Devotions for the Holy Souls in Purgatory" is an excellent book for the month of the Holy Souls, November. But the Suffering Souls always, until the end of time, need help. So this book is good for any time of the year.

This is a most useful book of Catholic prayers. I'm so glad to have it; it has instruction as well as wonderful prayers. Some are new to me, others have been forgotten, but now I'm glad to have them back in my prayer life. If you love God, I think you will love this book.

I go often to this book. Many of the prayers I use over and over. I am a prayer warrior for the souls in Purgatory. This is a must for those that want to pray for the souls in Purgatory.

Susan Tassone has done it again. All her books on devotions for the Holy Souls are great. This is one of her best. It includes a holy hour for the holy souls and chapter after chapter of prayers for them. It is a fantastic resource for prayers for every category of soul in purgatory and everyone to pray to for them - Jesus, Blessed Mother, Saints, litanies, etc. Well worth the money. I ordered a second copy to put in the Adoraton Chapel of my Church. I would recommend this book to everyone who is Catholic. It has caused me to start praying more consistently for the Holy Souls again. My only complaint would be her 3 novenas in the front of the book. The first has good infomation to read and no suggested prayers, although there are plenty of prayers in the rest of the book to use. The second and third are way too short on info and prayers. She would have been better off just to make it into an information chapter instead of calling them novenas.

I love this book. It is my new favorite prayer book. So many prayers. All for the holy souls. Great book and a great investment.

Love this book. I read many of the prayers everyday for the souls whether at home or in Eucharistic Adoration. It came quickly and like the diversity of prayers for them as well as some for us. Good to make others aware that we should remember the dearly departed for their sake as well as ours. This book brings attention in a nice way to those who are interested in what you are reading and helps spread the message.

The prayers are geared for one week. If you are interested continual prayers for The souls in purgatory, it could feel repetitive.

Very informative. I wish a lot of people read one of these books about Purgatory. Is this book translated to other languages? Because you need to reach non-English speakers, too. God bless you. My mother taught me to pray for the departed souls.

I have literally dozens of prayer books, but this has become my absolute favorite. I bought it to use for November prayers for the Holy Souls, and was surprised to discover that it is a truly complete prayer book for year-round use. It contains such beautiful prayers! There are a variety of prayers and devotions for the Holy Souls of course, including novenas, meditations, short and long prayers, prayers for specific people (and that list is quite long so there will likely be a prayer for any deceased person you wish to remember). But there are also beautiful daily prayers, prayers for protection, prayers to banish fear, prayers to increase in holiness and prepare for death and avoid purgatory, prayers to the Precious Blood and Sacred Heart, prayers to Our Lady, the 7 Penitential Psalms, and so much more. Many of the prayers I have never seen before. I can say this is easily the most consoling prayer book I've ever owned-- consoling in terms of knowing you are helping your loved ones leave purgatory and go to heaven, but also you are helping protect and intercede for your loved ones still on earth, as well as yourself. This is a complete spiritual guide and devotional for releasing the Holy Souls into heaven, and for praying yourself and your loved ones there as well. I love this book and now carry it constantly.

Very inspiring and enlightening, specially the thoughts, reflections and revelations from the holy ones who are now recognized as saints. Would highly recommend this for those seeking to know more and pray for the holy souls in Purgatory.

GREAT BOOK

Prayers,Promises, and Devotions for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. An excellent book, and the format in this book is different from S. Tassone's other books. I ordered one for my Kindle and it is great; however, it is more time-consuming to go back and forh to pray the novena which has a daily prayer at the beginning of the exercise, followed by prayers for each of the nine days .

More people need to remember that purgatory still exists and their is a Purgatory museum in Rome, Italy.

It's ok but not what I expected when I ordered it, after hearing an interview with the author over the radio. I was looking more for the history and tradition, rather than prayers and devotions.

Beautiful way to help the holy souls in purgatory. Susan Tassone writes in a way that is so inspiring to me. I was taught since childhood that our earthly prayers are useful in helping to release souls into heaven. I have felt a real desire to do this for many years. Ms Tassone's book is a real joy to read and use for this reason

Great Book, a must read for those working spiritually to better themselves, develop charity and compassion in themselves. This is a great instruction book, filled with heartfelt prayers and devotions that bring great help to the souls in Purgatory.

I have many prayer books in my Kindle Fire including 3 Bibles. I love the convenience of having them allll at my fingertips when I am in church and don't have to fumble through tons of books. I can switch to my bible to look up a verse referenced in my books.

I use it for "first Friday" adoration.I highly recommend it because of the variety of prayers and devotions that it contains.

I really learned a lot when reading this book and I use some of the devotions on a daily basis since receiving it. I am still going through it a second time and picking up things I missed the first time around. Would definitely recommend.

So much information on the Holy Souls. Ms Tassone does a great job providing both. Her commitment is obvious. I loved the addition of the seven Penitential Psalms. They really help me prayfor them.

This is a beautiful prayerbook for everyone, but especially for those who are devoted to praying for the Holy Souls. All my favorite prayers in one book, and many I didn't know if before.

This book has a variety of prayers for the souls in purgatory. It is good to take to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. There is a lot of knowledge and we can't pray enough for the souls.

I has a wonderful collections of prayers, most of which are for the holy souls, but not all. There are prayers listed for healing, prayers of penance, etc... I would highly recommend this book.

If you want to pray for the Souls in Purgatory, this is a very good guide of specific prayers with explanations on each prayers.

This little book has so many beautiful prayers and provides information I never heard before. I've ordered many extra copies and gave them to friends. I say prayers from it daily. I'm so glad I have prayers for those I love and lost.

We don't think about the holy souls enough. We should be considering that we ourselves will be there one day. These devotions are important.

This book is very well presented. In it one finds several ways to get closer to the souls in purgatory through prayer and devotion. One get read it as as a whole or simply recite prayers from any of the many available. Definitely a book to carry along in the handbag.

This little book is so comprehensive and so very beautiful. There is a prayer for almost any situation one could imagine. I love this so much I have bought several copies and have given them to family and friends. It is my favorite prayer book.

Good experience

This is a great book to remind all faithful Christians of our oblication to pray for the souls in purgatory!

This book really helped me understand and cope with my recent loss of my brother. It also has brought me comfort knowing I can help him and others out with prayer. Susan has helped me with some clarification and understanding about Purgatory as well as great resources and prayer. So very grateful for this book. It along with scripture has really got me through this difficult time.

As a Convert to the Catholic Church I didn't understand saying prayers to the poor souls in Purgatory. I started by praying for my deceased loved ones. With Susan's book I have prayers for all the souls in Purgatory including those who have no one to pray for them. The Holy Hour Prayers takes just that an hour to pray for all the souls, especially for me those who have no one else to pray for them.

This book is a priceless addition to any serious Catholic's home library. It is very informative on the Church Suffering and how we the Church Militant can be of great assistance.

COVERS ALL THAT IS NECESSARY FOR THIS WORLD THE SPIRITUAL AND THE SUPERNATURAL.I PRAY SOME OF IT EVERY DAY TO THE END OF THE BOOK THEN JUST START ALL OVER AGAIN.
