Positive Psychology: The Scientific and Practical Explorations of Human Strengths comprehensively covers the science and application of positive psychology. The book brings positive psychology to life by illustrating issues such as how psychological strength can help increase positive outcomes in school and the workplace and promote cooperative relationships among people. Furthermore, the book encourages readers to engage with concepts in order to understand positive emotions and strengths, such as empathy, altruism, gratitude, attachment, and love. Over 50 case studies grounded in practice, research, and the authors’ teaching experience reveal how positive psychological phenomena operate in the lives of real people. The Fourth Edition continues to integrate cultural context in every chapter to reflect the diversity in today’s world.

Good book but way too expensive!

It’s a chunky book so you may have a hard time reading it in the e-version. For a textbook its price is still outrageous.

Great for rental

Better than I expected

The book is in better condition than I thought, very well taken care of, just a bit of water damage on the back of the book but overall it’s in great shape

That it comes fast to use at class.

Able to be used as book for class.

Absolutely Fascinating Book!

Positive Psychology is super interesting! I keep picking up the book, opening it to a random page, and reading for a while. During the time I was writing this review, I was thumbing through the book to find something and I kept getting drawn in to the content and reading for a while. The field of positive psychology is absolutely fascinating to me, and this book provides a lot of detail, examples, and perspective, which I find to be good fun. I like the format and content of the book. The content was engaging and enlightening. I like the "Life Enhancement Strategies", which provide ideas for how to make use of the material in the reader's own life. I like the "Personal Mini-Experiments", which are opportunities to try out what you've learned, which is an effective way to learn - it makes it very real. I also like the various perspectives included in the book from a variety of experts, and the real-life examples from people in their own words. I also appreciate that there is a good amount of material talking about diverse perspectives as they relate to the material - how different genders, cultures, religions, etc might have a unique way of looking at the topic. A lot of really good content here.

Useful, but dull

This is a very useful text for a very important subfield of psychology. It covers the many aspects of positive psychology in good detail. But it is very dull. Visually unappealing, entirely black and white with forest green accents. The text itself quickly bogs down into very specific language. This is not something to be used with college freshmen. Upper-level college students will find this useful if they need a course on positive psychology, but it will never get read word-for-word. Could have been better.

Look on the bright side!

That's what this wonderful textbook is about - positive psychology and the application of strengths-based exploration into betterment and furthering of one's highest potential. We all know there is a tremendous inner war we wage with ourselves each day, but when we have the tools, history and insight into how well we thrive and why, we can take those useful ideas and apply them with a positive mindset. This book offers all of the above and is an excellent textbook and book for LEADERS as well.

interesting

Having studied psychology in college I found this text an interesting refresher. It’s an in depth look at the sunnier side of human nature and was as enjoyable as it was educational.
