Great book, and a solid choice for beginners. Just some additional info below.
I wanted to incorporate some Manga elements into some of my cartooning, so I picked up this book along with four others. This seems like one of the best. A few pros/cons Pros: - To start with, the book is gorgeous. There's tons of color and great illustrations. The physical quality of the paper and the printing is excellent as well. You could almost leave it out as a coffee table book. - Strikes a good balance between starting at the beginning and talking down to the reader. Some of the books I've found (even beginner ones) assume skills that aren't really universal. Others seem to want to start by explaining what a pencil is. This one started at the beginning but was challenging. - There is a nice progression. The book takes you through various aspects of a finished drawing piece by piece, breaking it down in a very logical way. - Includes some very cool topics not really approached in other books. Specifically, non humans. It's nice to see them tie some drawing basics into something a lot of other books handle as almost "mysterious." - The drawings in this book seemed much more polished than those in some of the other books. It's hard to describe exactly what i mean, but in some of the others, the end product is more "cartoony" than I would have liked. Sort of a silly criticism to make of a book about Manga, but it's the best way I can describe the difference. A lot of other books have artwork that just seems flat. Cons: - I say this about every single drawing book, so I don't take stars off for it, but why can't they make these coil/spiral binds? Every single person using this book is going to want to have it open while they have their hands busy with the lesson they are working on at the time, why not set it up to lie flat. Just a pet peeve, but I'm hoping someday a publisher might notice (Pro tip: you can get things coil bound at fed ex kinko's for five bucks or so, well worth the frustration you'll save). - There was a lot of included artwork that, while gorgeous and interesting, wasn't really helpful to actually learning anything. I really enjoyed it, so I'm not taking stars off for it, but I could see someone feeling like the book wanders from the point a little. If you are interested in learning some Manga techniques, this book is an excellent choice.
4 stars and a half, excellent for beginners
The book covered a lot of important topics, I do feel very inspired whenever I look at it and feel like I could spend hours just drawing. The issue is just that it doesn't cover a lot of styles, it's mostly just the artist's personal style mixed with the generic anime style which is completely fine especially if you are a beginner but I would have personally preferred if there was most advice on drawing different body shapes and face structure, all the girls are skinny with thigh gaps, all the guys are square, I like to have a variety of characters and I would really love a book that can show me how to draw chubby boys and girls and characters that are bulky or got muscle, this book just covers the basics. my animation teacher loves this book and so do I and I always recommend it to others and so does he, I will suggest making another book focusing on different styles or shapes etc, i love Camilla's style very much and this book helped me with hands and feet but it doesn't change the fact that my style is very different than hers. I would say definitely buy it if you have problems with hands, feet and aging characters or if you are a beginner wondering where to start,
I love having this as a tutorial book and just generally ...
I really admire this artist's tutorial books, its a break away from really generic anime style tutorial books into a more stylized modern way of drawing and designing anime styled drawings. I love having this as a tutorial book and just generally to have beautiful high quality images of her work. My favorite feature in the book is the animal section, I feel like she has the most charming way of drawing animals and I would recommend this book to any artist of any skill level for that alone. I love the tidbits about her personal journey as an artist, I find them extremely encouraging and heartfelt. The book itself is high quality with slightly glossy pages. I've been casually drawing for a few years and was easily able to follow her tutorials with satisfying results. She is my absolute favorite tutorial book for anime and manga right now and I highly recommend it over most other anime tutorial books.
Always love Camilla's art books
Always love Camilla's art books. This book is full of my favorite artworks. There is a lot of detailed step by step pictures of how to draw each element, body parts. Really useful on perspectives. When you view body parts from a slanted view, that is really helpful. Everything shown in detail. This makes me appreciate her art more!. Even if you are not an artist or trying to learn how to draw, it can help you to understand what it takes to make art and appreciate it more. I wish she can make a part 2 of this book with even more artworks and explainations , especially of the kawaii art like the Hello Kitty one, and the Princess Jedi one. Just love!
Fun Book with Great Drawings
Great book! I bought this as a gift for a talented, 11-year old girl who was tutoring my daughter in general elementary school studies. She was so excited, I thought she was going to jump into orbit. I later found out that she had been desperately trying to get her mom and dad to buy this book to no avail. I was very glad to be able to put this book in her hands. She was already a good artist, and she had her artwork hanging up in the county library. Overall, I think this book is more at the intermediate to advanced level. In my opinion, there are better choices out there for beginners.
Great Little Book!
Loved how it has how to draw different emotions and hairstyles for male and females. I draw manga and chibi styles and helped to fine tune many of my sketches. Also includes how to draw hands, feet, and male and female figures.
Great artist and nice book
I dabble in drawing and although I love the authors style, I do think this book is for someone with some pretty good skills and not a beginner. Her creativity and those of other in her field is amazing. I hope that reviewing her style I can work on my own creativity and style.
Pretty but Not for Beginners
This book is great, although i wouldnt recommend it for beginners. While it goes very into detail there are parts of the book such as hair, where the author doesnt go into detail at all, its just images of the drawing. They also dont go into detail of face emotions, although theres a quite a variety of them. I recommend this to mid-intermidiate artist maybe a slither of beginners, but NOT for complete beginners.
Pretty good but not for the beginner artist
This is a nice book! However, I have to say that I was expecting it to break down the steps to drawing figures, and other such anatomy better. I think this book is better suited for artists who already can draw bodies, poses, etc. and need a little bit more help tweaking those things into perfection. For example, there is a section on hair and the author gives you different hair styles to look at but never actually delves into how to draw them step by step. Otherwise, super pretty!

Best book so far
This is the best instruction book I have found yet. I purchased books by Christopher Hart and they do not compare. As a beginner, I learn best by descriptions and being shown how to do it, which is exactly what this book has done. The instructions are clear and I can understand the diagrams included. My drawings have already been improving a bit but with this book I have a better understanding of what I'm doing. I wish I had found this book first when I started.
Amazing!!
This book is really good for people barely starting my daughter loves it and the artist she's a really huge fan of Camilla and I myself love her artwork. We love the book and how it is all planned out and made the details are really good and instructions are really good to follow along. Totally recommend.
a very good Camilla book
I have a lot of how to draw manga books. Camilla is one of my favorite artists. However there are better, much more in-depth how to draw manga books available. This is how Camilla draws manga, and it is not an in-depth how-to book with step by step instructions. If you want to own examples of how Camilla draws and good examples of her finished work then this book is great! However, if you want good clear in-depth instruction on how to draw different kinds of manga characters, you'll want to look elsewhere.
If you wanna draw manga, get this book
Excellent, detailed guide to manga drawing.
Love it !
They arrived in perfect condition and shipped so fast. I love this artists style and hope to learn so much . I love the book for sure !
Not for beginners
As I went through the book, I realized that this book is not for beginners. I would only recommend it to people who have far more advanced art skills.
I don't regret the purchase one bit
I bought the paperback version and I enjoy learning from it. I love the colors in it. Camilla does a great job providing variety of hairstyles, face shapes, eyes, and poses. There is also a section that teaches you how to draw "chibi" characters and manga animals. I have attempted to learn how to draw anime online and youtube videos, but failed every time. I finally decided to buy an manga learning book and I'm glad I chose this one.
Great for improving art skills
I just love Camilla d'Errico's art work. To me she is one of the best non Japanese anime artist out there. And the fact that there is a book that teaches you how to draw and gives you tips on how to improve is simply amazing. Having a bit of art skills and understanding will really help to use and understand this book/
Sucks
I like the way she draws faces and hair. However, her pathetic attempt at teaching these things is a major fail! She starts off with "tutorials" of how to draw what look like googly eyes--not the pretty eyes in the portfolio illustrations, which, by the way, are often a shameful, distracting plug. But at least the eyes are step-by-step; she then abandons any attempt at instruction and transitions into hair, which consists of pictures of highly complex, not even basic-manga hairstyles that are about a thousand strokes each--the truly pathetic thing about this is she probably drew each of these in a couple minutes with many rapid, free-flowing strokes, and yet the "student" could spend an hour on each one painstakingly and carefully trying to copy every strand, and learn and improve absolutely nothing and none. Ultimately, her "art" is way too busy. If you took away all the fantastical elements, the gross, functionless, unergonomic steampunk helmets, and the animals, they'd be nice portraits of manga-esque girls.
Great book.
Love this book. Has lots of information on lots of topics and has helped me through a lot of times when I was stuck. Would recommend this to anyone.
Very cute!
Bought it for my sister who is fan if emily's work. She love s it!
Purchased twice!
I purchased a copy of this book for my sister how loves to draw and paint. After I this book in the mail, I just knew I had to have a copy for myself, especially after viewing more of Camilla d' Errico's artwork. The lessons are easy follow. I like that Camilla consistently encourages artists to experiment with their own style.
Great manga book to learn from
When I first came across this book at Barnes and nobles I knew I had to get it but I didn't because I thought I would get a better deal on Amazon. And I did! Wow this book is so amazing I love the art work, colors and how everything is explained on depth of drawing. Not only that but the author makes it fun to read and encourages you to draw :)
BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!!!
I absolutely LOVE d'Errico's style of art, and how easy it is to follow her tutorials! She shows how to draw each individual facial feature and body part, different body poses, different expressions, different techniques and loads more!! If you are looking for a good drawing book, this is the one!
One of the Best Character Design Books on Kindle Today.
I just finished Mark Crilley's 2nd Book, when this book was recommended. I went back to my computer to research the artist, and realized this is a great book for anyone interested in character design. However, character mentor is a much more fuller book, this is part "how to" and "part style" guide. For the trained artist, who uses blue to grey led, and a scanner, this is a great book because you can see her process. I wish I had this book when I was a kid.
(I got lazy but the is a good one too
My 11 year old loves it. I saw other books with more pages, but this seems to be newer. I'd say try to find the newer books if you are giving them to kids. (I know I posted the same comment because it's true for the 3 books I've purchased. (I got lazy but the is a good one too, it has animals)
Great reading, and immediate help for people new to drawing manga styles.
If you're a fan of pop surrealism or lowbrow, and if you ever wanted to hear the voice of a prominent artist in that field, this is the book for you. Camilla is so conversational, it feels a lot like having e-mail with a friend. If you're a collector, or fan, of Camilla D'Errico, you must have this book! If not, but you're a fan of manga and anime and would like lessons that will have immediate impact on your art, you can't pass this book up.
Good beginners book.
Shows how to assemble drawings from simple shapes. I still like Drawing with You tuber Mikey Mega Mega but this is also a good book for would be Anime/ Manga artists.
Excellent Art Book, So-so How-To Guide
Very little is presented here outside the norm for education. Draw a circle, place some guide lines, complete the face. Body drawing is meh, and beyond that... But this book has beautiful showcases and I'll be using it more for reference than anything else. I enjoy my purchase which shipped quickly however I'll be buying additional books for deeper drawing tutorials.
Helpful!
I like Camilla’s art a lot and I found this book so helpful in expanding technique. It gets a bit messy at times, but I appreciate it
Great quality book, would recommend!
Love! This Artist is a favorite of my daughters and so I got this for her for Christmas. She was so pleased with it. I am so impressed with the quality of pictures and the details. Great book!
Excellent
Arrived right on time & everything ☺
Great Quality!
This book helped me a lot. It's a great book. Many interactions, details, demonstartions, and it's sure to give you the help you need with drawing.
Good book
Good book I recommend buying this if your big fan of anime and it's not really a book for beginners that started drawing anime
Stunning!
I love the beautiful artwork by Camilla d'Errico, and getting a glimpse of her process while being able to follow along is so much fun! I highly recommend this book for anyone who's interested in learning how to draw basic pop manga characters and for people who just love Camilla's work.
So far she has enjoyed looking through and studying the book
This was a birthday gift for my 13 year old granddaughter who has just started being interested in Manga art. So far she has enjoyed looking through and studying the book.
Great!!
Camilla is fresh and thorough. It's super cool to get a book about pop art by someone who is successful in both the fine- and pop- art arenas.
Wonderful!
Camilla's art style is wonderful and this makes for a good addition for any budding manga artist. I also recommend a book on fashion like Meredith Dillman's fantasy fashion and maybe some books with good poses to go with it like the how to draw anime and game characters books and how to draw the marvel way to go with this.
Good Starting Point for Manga
Great for drawing a variety fo Manga figures. Just take your time and practice, practice, practice. From the beginning you can find in this book, you can expand as far as your imagination can take you.
LOVE the art examples, and writing of this book!
Really enjoy this digital copy of this book. This book provides lots of tips and interesting images to use as reference in relation to pop manga styles. I have enjoyed using this to practice drawing the anime style!
Good Gift Idea
Gave it as a gift to a college design student. She liked it.
Beware of learning manga from a Westerner.
This book is frustratingly elementary. Camilla jumps from subject to subject too quickly, and her instructions are often badly worded. It's painfully bereft of good drawing references. Camilla's drawings seem anatomically off at times. I found less than a quarter of this book useful. You likely already have a manga collection, so you already have the materials you need to begin. There's nothing here you can't learn from intuition or practice. From there, get a more serious book on learning to draw. The book is also way too focused on advertising Camilla's own products, which fills the last quarter of the book. Don't waste your time on this.
A complete rip-off!
Shows us what we could easily find for free on the web and charges us triple the price! Essentially saying here is how I draw an eye and gives a very very simple drawing which we could see in any amateur's attempt online. Not for the beginner nor the expert. A complete rip-off with no value at all.
This is an awesome guide for people who are interested in this art ...
This is an awesome guide for people who are interested in this art style. It shows general ways to draw and illustrate manga and manga/anime character, while still pressing the fact that you can have your own unique style.
Great book for beginner
this is so far the best guide book on drawing character more than any books that I had purchase. It goes into a lots of detail and different style of drawing, overall very sastify with my purchase I don't regret it, not one bit :)
Camilla d'Errico, One of the best.
Excellent book to read to review techniques, learn about the artist and the sub categories of Pop-Manga.
She loved it.
I purchased this book for my granddaughter for her birthday. She loved it.
Unique Style Artwork
Love the Art Style and the book Layout!
Perfect for gift
My daughter loved it and it was exactly what she hoped it would be. The shipping could have been faster but overall the book itself was great.

I love this art book
I love this art book, so much valuable info presented in such a fun and cute manner. Great buy!
Cute manga book
Good directions
entertaining and informative
This is very cute! Good for starters! Great gift for 12+ kids, as they would know how to use this. I use it myself
Recommended for 10 years and older
Got it for my 8 year old daughter. She can follow the step by step instruction. She still has some problem to attain the skill in drawing. She might be more ready in couple years. Recommended for 10 years and older.
Parents Beware
As a parent I was horrified at the pictures in this book. Most of them are young girls with very sexual, adult bodies. Basically a pedophiles dream book. The second is that there are a few demon to draw and information about that particular demon. Also, we really need the option to give no stars. I shouldn't have to give even 1 to be able to warn other parents or like minded people who don't want this smut in their homes.
Helpful and beautiful
Good information for beginners and seasoned artists.
Great book for a great price
Bought this How to Draw book for my teenage daughter for Christmas. Wow!! This book was beyond my expectations. Great quailty book and tons of nice illustrations. My daughter loved it! I would highly recommed it.

I like it very much. 👾🔝
I guess the paperback would be better than a digital copy
It was alright. I guess the paperback would be better than a digital copy. A digital copy makes it hard to read and follow.

A solid tutorial book from one the greatest and my favorite artist
The book is great! Just keep in mind that you are learning Camilla's style so there won't be a variation in how you draw eyes and lips! The only reason I gave this book 4 stars is because of the fact that I wish she went a little more in depth with by showing different angles of hands, heads, feet, and hair movement. I would definitely love to see Camilla make a second book with more in depth into how she draws things with movement.
Greate Drawings
This Pop Manga Book Is Greate And Has Such Amazing Images!
Stunning Graphics!
i have a daughter who loves drawing and i was looking tbrough the book with her and these graphics! they are so complex!
Taking Art to the next level! :worth every penny!
Unfortunately I bought it at Michael's for $22.00 - but even then this book is well worth it. I can't begin to describe how wonderful it is. Very detailed, step by step instructions and a very unique twist on the standard anime /manga art style. I highly recommend it! It's well worth the money 😁😀😄
Very Useful!
Weather your a pro or just starting out. This a wonderful tool to use! Its has good steps interesting designs. and inspires you to get creative! It is very relaxing to use.
Great gift for a young artist
I bought this for my friend's teenage daughter, and liked it so much I got a copy for myself and my 6-year-old daughter to keep. The example characters are whimsical and expressive, with a nice level of cuteness and innocence (some manga drawing guides I looked at objectified female characters too much, IMO). The chapters on chibi, mascots and animals show very basic easy characters to draw, and the anatomical guides for humans are broken down into easy steps but show how to incorporate movement and detail in the final drawing. I like the artist's style a lot - her illustrated manga girls are pretty and cute, but weird enough to appeal to a geeky/gothy teenager.
... with a giftcard I got for Christmas and absolutely love it. It talks about drawing characters of all ...
Got it at MIcheals with a giftcard I got for Christmas and absolutely love it. It talks about drawing characters of all ages, some animals, with and intro to creating panels and manga pages
Beautiful and funny!
This book is so cool! Let me tell you why. I thought the way Ms. Camilla drew was just breath taking. It's a different take on the genre of manga that's hard to find. All her characters are very distinct. The way you're taught to draw the characters or a POSE is very witty. Its not stale or hard to understand, which is great for those visual-spatial people (like me) who want to get right to their artwork. I would recommend this book to beginners and advanced artists. Not just to learn how to draw, but also for inspiration on how to create their own characters and comics.
A must have
Yet another great book,I bought this at the crafts store, I don't plan on drawing Manga comics but very helpful with drawing up painting ideas , and her style is unmistakable. I completely recommend this book
Recommended Buy!!
This is a wonderful book to start out on as a beginning artist! I would recommend anyone who is interested in manga at all to look into this book! Camilla is a wonderful artist and very original!
The best drawing guide book ever!!!! <3
I'll make this short. I totally adore this book it's the best drawing guide book ever! It teaches you everything and I mean it! From color, hand, feet, face, body, hair, mascot (super cute animals), materials (pen, pencil, paper and eraser), and point of view. It's worth every penny I bought a brand new one, so it was more expensive $17 but it's just so worth it! Trust me this book is best for newcomer artist.
great book
absolutely love this book, the paintings, the examples, all very cute, nice to know the thought process behind the person writing the book alittle too, makes it less mechanical and more intuitive.
...Not the best when i got it.....
Its awesome and all but... mine was broken when i got it. Not a big broken but on the front was ripped just a little on the side. Im keeping it anyways because i spent LOTS of money on buying drawing books
Easy to follow
While this isn't a comprehensive book on drawing, it does take you step by step on how to draw Camilla's version of Pop Manga. I have several books on comic book drawing and while the all have essentially the same instructions, I personally like the easy to follow and lose style that Camilla shows in her book. Western style comic books give you strict instructions on how to draw comic books, which always seem stiff and a lot of preliminary work to do. Camilla's style is very basic and really easy to follow, allowing me to achieve the basic look very quickly. She provides instructions on how to draw Manga females, males, children, adults and even animals. This will probably help a beginner but not a comprehensive book on how to draw, but a still a very good resource. I also like her writing style, keeping it fun and lighthearted while also instructional. Others books tend to become lectures which are boring to me. This book will not provide you on how to come up with your own ideas, or what process she uses to come up with her ideas. Camilla seems to be a very emotional artists who comes up ideas based on what she's feeling at the moment (this is commented a couple of times in the book like the image of the female in green with the iguana and the one with the yellow snake on her head). I do like how she simplifies anatomy and how she easily explains it. As I said a great helpful resource for anyone interested in Manga.
The best book !!!!!
The best book I've got and the best book I've ever learn from.
Good book but...
I am an art instructor and bought this as a gift for my niece. I think this book can be very useful to beginners and intermediate levels. But I would not recommend for those under the age of ten. However it does include a few simple cute animals and chibi's younger ages could tackle but most of the rest of the content maybe out of reach to younger students. The birthdaysuit chapter may also trigger more conservative parents. It's not detailed "anatomically" but it's worth mentioning. It's a ok chapter. It's just about creating a frame to place fashion over. I actually like this book because of the lack of constant step by step steps, that no artist used ever. Almost all approaches are how an artist might approach their drawing. With one exception. I had to take a star off for this. The section on hands. . . Is a nope. It's good as a concept, not as an applied method to fallow. It's easy to find a number better approaches on Pinterest to tackling hands then what's in this book. Over all this book is great and a big improvement when the only how to draw manga books were by Christopher Heart. Those were dark days.

good book, my daughter love it
Great how to, awesome illustrations
This is a great how-to book on drawing manga characters that don't look too "manga-y". There's some good anatomy lessons in here, interspersed with some really fantastic fully rendered illustrations.
