NOT Plant-Based

This book should be called “Vegan on a Budget.” Most of the recipes contain oil, which is not a part of your typical plant-based lifestyle. If you do not use oil, don’t bother buying this. WASTE OF MONEY.

I thought I knew a lot about cooking on a budget ....

I thought I knew a lot about cooking on a budget but I was still eagerly awaiting this cookbook's arrival as I had pre-ordered it some time ago, and it arrived this morning! I'm one of those people who will read a cookbook from cover to cover if I find anything useful in the early sections, and I'm so glad that this book does not disappoint at all. From the interesting "My Story" section to the tips for new cooks and seasoned cooks alike, and to the interesting recipes that are going to be really easy to make, I'm so looking forward to cooking from this book. In the past, I'd never have reviewed a cookbook without cooking from it, but it's plain to see that the recipes are wonderful, very budget-friendly, creative and are going to be easy to put together. Tomorrow I'll be making the Banana Zucchini Pancakes for breakfast and the Tofu Scramble for lunch. The Overnight Oats looks and sounds so delicious, I think that will be breakfast for the following day! Everything looks so fresh and interesting that I really want to try every single recipe in this book, and I shall. I like Toni's little stories and the one about her dad holding up the line in a grocery store while making sure he was getting the sale price on an item when she was little, took me back to my childhood and grocery shopping with my mom because she'd do the same thing. Anytime I said "Mom, everyone is looking at us" if mom was taking too long to pick something at the market, or trying to decide if she should put something back, I'd get the same response, "So? They're not paying our grocery bill!" LOL!! Can't wait til' I try every single recipe from this creative cookbook. I'll post updates as I try the recipes.

Crazy Yummy Food Approved by Vegan Jesus

This book is beautifully laid out and the photos are perfect. We used the Plant-Based on a Budget meal plans when we first went Vegan and it really took all the guesswork out of what to eat. We love all the recipes and are so excited to have such a gorgeous cookbook to use all the time. It also has a forward from Dr. Michael Greger, who is our Vegan Jesus (nothing against Earthling Ed), so you know its legit.

Delicious and easy with no weird ingredients needed!

I love cookbooks and trying new things to keep food interesting. However, I hate having to buy some random spice or ingredient I will never use again. This cookbook is PERFECTION. I can flip open to almost any page and create a recipe because it calls for ingredients I buy regularly! The recipes are delicious, quick, and EASY. Did I mention delicious!? Even with a family of picky eaters I can find something in here everyone will enjoy. Being plant based is so important to me and my family and this cookbook is a life saver. Also, follow @plantbasedonabudget on IG! She’s amazing.

This book is boring and useless

This book was useless. It has a million staged photos of the author pretending to eat. That’s like 30% of your book. Ugh. It hardly has any recipes and is way too simple. There are pages on just how to cook plain beans. As if it’s hard or like each bean is sooo different it needs a whole new page. Apples with peanut butter. Oatmeal. A baked sweet potato. Add a vegetable to pasta. Add a vegetable to rice. Have avocado on toast. Then have hummus on toast. Eat soup. Have ramen noodles. No creativity at all. Yes, just eating rice and pasta and potatoes is cheap. But it’s boring and that’s why I was looking for cookbooks. I don’t need a “recipe” to add water to oatmeal.

I feel like an actual cook

I thoroughly enjoy the style of Toni’s book. I like that there are tips from her and others that have tried her recipes. I also like that there is a space after each recipe to put your own tips. It allows for more creativity instead of feeling like I have to stick to the recipe. I made her Minestrone Soup (pg.127) and it came out super delicious. It was perfect especially since I was sick. I added sugar snap peas since I had those available & instead of 2 cans of red beans I used 1 can of black and 1 can red beans. Thanks Toni for such a great cookbook!!

Favorite Plant Based Cookbook

Love everything about this book. It has photos with each recipe, new receipes that arent in any of my new plant base cookbooks, list of grocery staples, informative information, one person meal plan, and much more. It has became my new favorite cookbook.

Healthy, tasty, easy and budget-friendly - perfect for this busy mom!

To summarize my review, this is an awesome cookbook, whether or not you are fully plant-based. I preordered the book and got it earlier this week and have already made several recipes. They have been so good that I plan to work my way through the entire book over the next few months. Today my 3-year old daughter and I made Five-Ingredient Peanut Butter Bites (“cookies”) for a snack, and she loved them. Healthy, tasty, easy and budget-friendly - which is perfect for a busy working mom. !

Great resource

Such a beautiful and helpful book for staying on track with my health and financial goals.

Full of flavor and cheap!

I would buy this book again just for the tofu veggie pasta recipe, it is so good and so cheap! My teenager loves it, too. This is not a book that requires a lot of expensive ingredients that you may not use again. I have too many cookbooks sitting on my shelf with recipes I have not tried because of the specialty ingredients. This book is definitely not in that category. For example, the peanut sauce uses red pepper flakes instead of chili paste. The book has almost 100 recipes by my quick count, almost all with pictures. The vast majority are oil-free or have a substitute listed, there are about three that don't have a substitute. I feel like the plant-based world has been waiting for this cookbook for a long time, don't hesitate to purchase it.

Go vegan, not broke

I am so excited to get Toni’s book! The pictures are beautiful and the recipes look great. I am a long time follower of the blog and I know they’ll be delicious. She has an approach to food that is simple and practical. Plant based eating is so important for our health and planet and it gets a bad rap for being elitist. This book crushes the elitist argument against veganism and makes it easy and balanced with something for everyone.

SUGAR in the desserts

The first thing I tried from this cookbook was AMAZING. I had a whole bunch of beans left over that I had made in an Instant Pot so I looked for a bean recipe and found one. Bean and Corn Salad on page 73. My family is new to plant based eating so was skeptical. Very skeptical. But... they LOVED it. So then I was excited to dry one of the desserts from the book. This is where I was extremely disappointed. We are looking for plant based whole foods. No sugar! And guess what's in the dessert recipes. Several have sugar. This is why I only gave 4 stars. Had the desserts not used sugar, granulated or powdered, it would have been a 5 star rating. I'll be using this book a lot but not for desserts.

I will recommend this to ALL my kitchen-phobic vegan-curious friends

I am a pretty proficient home cook, so when my friends see how much time and energy I put into making vegan meals, they get a little intimidated. I’ve heard comments like, “well I could totally go vegan if you cooked for me all the time!” But cooking plants doesn’t have to be as fancy as I often make it. This book has great potential to be a gateway book for new cooks, be they vegan or just plant-curious. The recipes are so approachable, and there are plenty of optional ingredients. For example, a chili recipe will be very bare bones, but then there is a list of add-in spices that would taste good in the chili if you happen to have them on hand and want to get fancy. This makes the ingredients lists far more affordable, and far less overwhelming to those of us without curated spice cabinets. This book is a winner!

Not what I expected

I was really looking forward to your cookbook. The preview of the book did not include any of the recipes, so I had no idea what to expect. I don’t use a microwave, so I was surprised that on one hand you downplay the importance of having good knives and pots and pans with lids, while many of your recipes require a microwave. Your recipes are simple and at least the ingredient list is readable. I think perhaps I am not within your target demographic.

Common sense “recipes”

There’s too many recipes in this book that are not recipe and shouldn’t be included. There’s a detailed recipe with instructions that is only sliced apples with peanut butter on top, sprinkled with raisins... did this really need to be included in a recipe book? There are also a bunch of recipes using ramen noodles and adding vegetables. Literally make ramen noodles like you normally would, with the spice packet and everything, and then just add some broccoli and carrots. I think this is a good idea to add some veggies to ramen if that’s all you can afford, but, did it need to be included it a recipe book??

Easy, delicious plant based meals!

So far, these recipes have been delicious and easy! I struggle when a recipe has 40+ ingredients... These ones are not that complicated. It makes use of things I already have without compromising flavor. My favorite so far is the zucchini potato casserole (pg 176). Super easy and tastes like cheesy potatoes! I'm going to try the totchoes next!!! These meals make food prep a sinch!!!

Great for beginners

Many of the recipes you can find on the internet if you know how to search different blogs and websites but if you’re new to the plant based lifestyle then this book is a must have. The recipes are truly simple. Toni does a great job of highlighting ways to save money. You can be plant based on a budget. If you’re trying to watch your sodium or fat you have to adjust some of her recipes and remove the salt and oil. The recipes will still come out well. This book would be a great gift for someone on a budget or a struggling college student.

Easy vegan recipes

This is one of the best plant-based cookbooks I've purchased yet! So far we've made about 5 recipes from it and they all turned out great and were easy to make and not too time consuming. I usually try to keep my weeknight meals quick and done in 30 minutes or less and that has been the case with the recipes we've tried so far. Our 7 and 5 year old have also been fans of the meals, which is an added bonus! Definitely a recommendation for anyone following a plant-based lifestyle!

It is Plant-based, don't be fooled

So, I don't like to write reviews unless I've had the product for at least 3 months. But I am writing one now because of a previous post by Emylee Yoder. No, I don't know her nor the author, I'm just someone trying to become healthier and one thing needs to be clarified. This book IS PLANT-BASED but it is not whole food plant-based nor is it entirely vegan. What's the difference? Vegan does include products that are healthier versions of what I call "junk food" like processed vegan cheese, packaged veggie burgers, nuggets, dairy free ice cream, things like that. Plant-based excludes these items except that it does include oil, which isn't scientifically healthy(check out nutritionfacts.Org / on YouTube as well) but even though it does include oil and standard table sugar (which can be substituted for apple sauce and date sugar, results will vary) it is an absolutely great book for beginners, would make a great gift. Now, Whole- Food Plant-based is where one doesn't consume any oil or processed vegan foods. So, instead of using olive oil in a salad, substitute it for a sprinkling of actual olives. Consuming the food in its natural state for the most nutritional value. Hope this helps!

Great Budget Cookbook!

Well written recipe book. The pictures are well done. The ingredients are easily obtained without any fuss. Each recipe page has a space for notes so if you make something that you tweak-you can make the note there which is so useful! So many times I make a recipe and change it up a bit but forgot the detail behind it. Not anymore! I will say that a few recipes in this book resemble the author’s previous slow cooker cookbook-just without the slow cooking method. There is a recipe for chili in this book that mimics the chili recipe in the slow cooker book and it has never fared well for me no matter how many times I have tried it. That is so far the only recipe I have stayed away from. Overall-this is a great budget cookbook.

The most basic of cookbooks

I’m so disappointed in this book. I bought it on a recommendation from a vegan group I’m in, but I failed to do proper research, so that’s on me. This book is very, very basic. Good, perhaps, for a new vegan who is also a novice cook, but pretty useless for someone with any cooking—and vegan—experience. It’s hard to imagine, though, why a $22 cookbook for any level of cook would include a “recipe” for peanut butter on apples with raisins. Or “Fancy Instant Ramen” that is nothing more than a few packets of ramen and their seasoning with some frozen vegetables and a clove of garlic, minced. I guess if you’ve never been in a kitchen, if you have no idea how to combine a few ingredients before eating them, this is the book for you. If you can cook more than boiled water, it’s probably better to pass.

LIFE-CHANGING

I decided to go plant based on 12-1-19 I have diabetes type 2. I spent over $200 to take 16 weeks of nutrition classes telling me CARBS are the problem in causing my diabetes to remain. What a bunch of bunk. Because of the misinformed information I had been given for years, my glucose remained high even though I followed their directions to a T. I started to study Plant based eating and what Dr Neil Bernard was teaching about how I could reverse my diabetes........and Carbs were not the problem. I was a newbie and had no idea how to begin. Then I discovered Toni’s cookbook. It was just what I needed. Very easy to read telling me what items I needed to purchase and how to prepare them. The recipes were easy and delicious. In the past I had been spending over $100 a week; with her wonderful guidance in this book I found myself spending $30 or less a week. Her book is a great way to start your new path on a plant-based diet. It is well written and it provides everything you need to know to start your new journey. I am so grateful for this information that she has provided in this wonderful book with great pictures. As of January 5th, I have lost 4 1/2 pounds and my waking glucose has been between 127 and 135 when prior to this it was 185 or 200. Thinking this was my last shot at trying to improve my health I had no idea that it would be this successful this fast. Toni’s book is a wonderful way to start on a plant-based diet. She has written a very helpful book and I would recommend it to everyone that is trying to change their life by losing weight and reducing glucose. I will never go back to eating meat, dairy products or eggs. I encourage everyone to get this book and use it faithfully; it will change your life too.

NOT just for vegans! A supurb foundation for a lifetime of food management & preparation!

Every new cook or bride should have this thorough & commons sense collection of tips & directions. It is a superb foundation for a lifetime of food management & preparation. You ,or may not, need to watch your food expenditures, but you will benefit greatly from the carefully collected knowledge & tips collected, developed & presented here. I was forced to learn the hard way decades ago & wish this had been available to me then. Now, even with a good budget for groceries, it is still relevant. Most of us need a LOT more vegetables in our diets. That is where a major portion of our nutrition lies. Research is proving this more & more. These recipes are tasty & tested ones that are both healthy & delicious. If you want eggs, dairy or meat, you can add them to these recipes or in side dishes. I highly recommend this book! (I purchased it myself & no one has solicited my opinion.)

This is a must have for those starting out on a plant based path.

My family loved the lentil tacos and nacho cheese... so thankful for this book!! Super easy to read, fabulous images of each recipe... easy to find ingredients... highly recommend!

Uninspiring

I bought this book less for the budget angle and more in hopes of finding a collection of quick and easy daily meal options. In the year or so I’ve owned this book, the only recipes I’ve referenced is the tofu scramble and the ginger butternut squash soup. No matter how many times I read through this book, almost nothing looks inspiring enough to go to the effort of preparing it. As some have mentioned, a number of “recipes” are too basic to be helpful (oatmeal). Others skimp on ingredients that may have enhanced the dish (like the peanut butter balls - pb, oats, raisins) and others require more labor to make sauces from scratch (like the jackfruit bbq sauce). In almost every case I’m left thinking that if she’d increased the per recipe budget by only a little bit perhaps this could have worked. It seemed like she took good dishes, eliminated every possible ingredient to get the cost down to an exact price, and you’re left with boring food. I would have preferred a book that made an effort to keep everything generally pretty cost effective with some tips for additions and subtractions to accommodate your budget. I appreciate what the author was trying to do with this, but it’s just not a book I find myself cooking from.

Disappointed

Nothing special about this cookbook. Could have found better recipes on the web.

The best cookbook for budget conscious plant eaters who enjoy delicious food!

Wow I am obsessed with this book! It has been a game changer for my family and I in our goal to eat plant-based. Other plant-based cookbooks I've used have been okay but they either call for super unique ingredients that are pricy/hard to find or they are not very conducive to a budget. This book features easy to follow recipes with simple ingredients I usually keep on hand and the food is delicious! Every time I've made a recipe from this book my husband and I are astonished at how amazing it is! I also love how it has a notes section, I've been testing out variations of the recipes and it really makes it personalized. This book makes plant-based eating seem possible, when before I felt like it was a daunting task. Love, love, love it!

Finally, a vegan cookbook that is tasty and focuses on money saving meals!!!!!

I've been waiting for this! Practical easy to find and cheap ingredients for tasty vegan meals! THANK YOU Toni Okamoto for writing the cookbook I've been searching for! I loved reading about Toni's life in the intro section especially the tip from her Dad. I can totally relate! I grew up with budget-conscious parents and learned valuable lasting lessons from them as well. Also impressive is the forward by Dr. Michael Greger. This reassures me that the recipes are healthy and don't fall into the junk food vegan category. I've tried a few recipes and they were amazing! I look forward to trying them all this year!

Easy to make recipes that taste great and are budget friendly

This cookbook is exactly what I was looking for. I have a small collection of cookbooks and never have I marked over half the recipes as 'must make'. It is regular foods, no crazy never-heard-of ingredients that have to scour the internet for and pay a week's worth of salary. These recipes are not complicated and don't require any crazy or expensive gadgets to cook. Best of all, the author has oil-free and gluten-free options of the recipes. Oh, and pictures!! Cuz who wants a cookbook without pictures?

This book is simple and beautiful

I love all of Toni's work. It's proof that eating healthy can be fun, easy, delicious, and inexpensive. I love her simplicity and common sense approach. The recipes are very user friendly, along with gorgeous photographs of the dishes. This book is a nice compliment to my collection of plant-based cookbooks. This food is good for us and the planet. Her section in the beginning about saving money is brilliant. I think I will gift this book to others quite a bit, but I'll be keeping and cherishing my copy. It's nice to have a resource to refer others to do when they say they don't have time or that it's hard or too much money to eat plant-based.

Love this Cookbook

FINALLY a cookbook I can use! I enjoyed reading her forward and am so excited to make the many recipes I’ve marked. Toni uses practical, healthy, everyday ingredients. Love that she included pictures with all the recipes. I will definitely be looking for more of Toni’s books and website. Thank you for realizing most of us don’t have the time or money to purchase ingredients we may only use once or twice.

delicious, simple, fast, easy-to-find ingredients

I have way too many cookbooks, mostly vegan/vegetarian, but am only compelled to write reviews for some of them. While I love to spend an afternoon buying unique ingredients from various ethnic stores followed by more hours in the kitchen making my own bread/tortillas, sauces, desserts, etc., medical school has greatly limited my free time to grocery shop and prepare healthy meals. This book has been a godsend to help me prepare simple, healthy, delicious meals, usually with ingredients I already have on hand, in a timely manner. Many of the recipes seem basic, but then surprise my husband and me with how they end up being more than the sum of their parts. For example, I thought the pumpkin bites would be bland, but they were good enough I would make them again and again (I did add salt, as I do in pretty much everything). I couldn't believe how yummy the chow (or lo?) mein was given it contained so little oil. I've made about a third of the recipes so far and none have disappointed. I also greatly appreciate that the author uses a lot of whole grains, but also isn't afraid to use a little sugar or white flour in desserts or a tablespoon or two of oil in a main dish. For me it's refreshing to have a cookbook written with this balance in mind (especially in a society that leans toward extremism and polarity). I strongly recommend buying this book and am thrilled to get her latest one in October!

IF YOU'RE GOING VEGAN BUY THIS FIRST!

I’d been having a REALLY hard time transitioning to vegan. I did Pinterest, used my own mind, and tried to curate some vegan classics myself. However this writer is also of LATINX decent, which made me so happy because I was having a hard time getting my classic LatinX meals back into my life; Since most are based around meat. She has plenty of meals in here for small budgets and it’s really my go to book. I wish I had this book first, before even going to Pinterest. Update 2/6/2020 This book has become a staple in my house hold. I was new to the began lifestyle and was seriously having a hard time maintaining meals in my household with out them being processed vegan food from the store. I was really new and was unsure how to do things. This book has literally held my hand and walked me down the path, and now I'm really exploring new items and using this book as a backbone for my household. I am beyond grateful that the writer wrote this book. It's made my life 100% better and I'm vegan every day of the week now.

Every recipe has a picture!

By far my favorite and most used plant based cookbook! EVERY recipe has a picture with it! Nothing is more disappointing in a cookbook, at least for me, is when there are two pictures in a whole book of 100 recipes. Second, the recipes are super easy to follow and have simple ingredients. When this book first arrived, I was able to quickly whip up one of the recipes with things I already had in my fridge and pantry. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to dabble in plant based or is already an experienced plant based eater looking to add some new recipes to their weekly menu.

I love this book!!!

This is my first plant-based recipe book that I’ve ever purchased and owned. The recipes are so easy to follow, and I like the fact that there’s optional choices so it gives me room to improvise with what I already have and substitute it with what I don’t have as far as ingredients; other than that, it truly saved me money and it’s only been two weeks in and I feel great, energetic and have lost weight! I don’t feel sluggish in the morning or feel too full, but just full enough to still go about my day and not feel tired. I highly recommend this book. I heard about this through actor, Alex Blue Davis on his Instagram and I’m glad I followed his recommendation!!!

Helpful

I'm not fully vegan or vegetarian but I am leaning towards better eating which to me means more plants... With that said, I think this is a GREAT cookbook: - good explanations - remix tips - alternate methods of cooking for some things - focused on low costs - good pictures - simpler than other plant based recipes I've seen with ingredients that are far less intimidating to a newb Love this...and I wish more cookbooks had this format! PS - the oil she advocates is from plants...not sure what that review was about but I'll google to increase in wisdom :)...however, she said in the beginning that 3x the amount in water would work for sauteing also...

The BEST plant based recipe book for newbies

I NEVER make stuff I buy in recipe books. They’re always complicated, have too many ingredients, too many steps, or have ingredients that need to be purchased online or at a health food store. I have had this book for a week and have made a bunch of stuff from the book already. I love it so much! It’s not stuffy or pretentious. It’s not some author who has no idea what it is to have to truly be on a budget. Toni has at least 3 recipes using ramen noodles. I cannot stress enough how much this book (as well as her website) have helped me to ease my family into a plant based diet.

Great recipes!

Cookbooks are usually a disappointment for our family, lucky if we can get one or two good recipes . This book is the exception. The recipes are mostly simple, fast and inexpensive. The Peanut Butter Ramen Stir-fry, Avocado Sunflower Seed Pesto Pasta and Sweet Potato Chili are just a few of our many favorites and we haven't tried most of the recipes. Also many good hints and suggestions. If you are plant based or vegan this book is a must

Easy, cheap, vegan recipes that you want to eat

I was hesitant to order this book because I have at least 12 other vegan cookbooks and Plant Powered Families is about the only one I have ever used. But I really like the concept of saving money while eating vegan. I am so glad I bought it and I think this one will stay in my kitchen! All of the recipes are simple, real food, things I would like to eat. Some recipes call for oil but she explains at the beginning how to replace it if you want to. If you are looking for super complicated dishes with crazy ingredients you won't find them here. Many of the recipes use staple ingredients that I already have and keep on hand. I can't wait to get cooking!

Easy and quick recipes!

I recently adopted a plant-based diet and not being much of a chef, this cookbook has allowed me to cook for both my wife and I without any regrets. The recipes are super quick and easy to follow, each recipe has a section called "My Tips" where you can write down any adjustments that work for you and includes a couple suggestions from other amateur chefs as well, she tells you how long each dish should last in the fridge, and provides suggestions on how to shop smart. Plus, it's "Plant-Based on a Budget" so your wallet isn't hurting to get the ingredients. I highly recommend this purchase. It's so worth the price.

Has some good recipes

Will try the recipes that do not contain oil (I use the ones I can switch to water for sautéing). I have tried the Ramen ones and like it. I did have to order from Amazon the Ramen. Our local stores did not carry it. Take recipe will save me a lot of time. Very good.

a super-useful book

I could mention all the super-yummy photos,, but really, what I like best about this book is that the recipes are offered as a basic idea or blueprint for a meal, with suggestions to change them, both by Toni and by her recipe testers. She leaves a space for us to write changes too, which is wonderful since I can't resist tinkering with a recipe to make it exactly as we like it. I have not had it long, but have found the stuffed sweet potatoes shown on the cover to be wonderful, and the gumbo truly swoon-worthy. And nothing is expensive, nor does any recipe use hard to find items, which is good because it helps keep costs down. She has a section at the front with suggestions for shopping and meal planning that could easily save people money if they are not already doing them. There are no fussy or difficult recipes in here, either, so this book could be used by beginners as well as more accomplished cooks. I am looking forward to many more happy meals from this book!

Book review

I chose this book because I wanted to become vegan but, was on a fixed income. This book helped me reach my goal. I enjoyed most of the recipes given. The book also helped me solve cooking problems, such as what to use instead of eggs.

Uses Canola oil in the recipes

This book has basic recipes and is useful for someone beginning a plant based diet. My big issue is the use of Canola oil in most of the recipes. I substituted, bit there are those out there who may not know the disadvantages of using that particular ingredient. It’s on the Absolutely don’t use list of healthy oils.

Easy, fast, tasty!

This is the vegan cookbook I’ve been looking for. Most recipes have only a few ingredients, not too much chopping up of veggies, and meals are healthy and tasty. Not for the purist who wants to cook beans from dried or won’t use canned corn and suchlike, with these recipes you will cheat at every opportunity by using canned when possible. It works for me, as I can now put a healthy meal together after I get home from work. Another bonus - almost all ingredients are ones I typically have in my cupboards. I also bought Okamoto’s slow cooker book, but many of those recipes don’t need to be slow cooked. If you only want to buy one, get Plant Based on a Budget.

Fabulous!

Love this cookbook! Lots of great ideas that don’t cost a ton to make. Pretty simple to make as well. A great cookbook for when you are working a lot and want to make something good in a short period of time also! Everything is very tasty, and you can always alter the recipe to your liking once you make it. A little more of this or that according to your taste. This book is helping me break out of a rut of making some similar things a lot of the time and branching out more. Such great ideas! Great little cookbook!

I loved this cookbook!

I will be taking part in a 7-day plant based challenge soon. I also have goals for the New Year of being more intentional with my dietary choices and getting my finances in order. This cookbook is exactly what I need to start out. I plan to utilize a lot of the recipes in this book to meal plan my plant based diet week. I love that there are snack foods and dips for easy munching... and there are also one-pot meals!

Easy vegan recipes without too many ingredients

Great vegan cookbook with EASY recipes that aren’t overwhelming to make. The recipes don’t require too many ingredients, which is good, because tracking down ingredients can be time consuming when your a full time working mom with a toddler. The book has a nice variety of recipes and they are super easy to follow. It also helps inspire me to make other recipes. Great book for beginner vegans as well as established vegans!

Save money? Yep that’s for me!!

I’m sorry some haven’t liked the recipes because there’s oils used but if you would take the time to read every recipe has alternative to use to replace oil also replacement for those that don’t like non-dairy products. I love everything about this book, it’s so simple works if you put in the time to shop around. But best of all you will feel great most likely lose weight and save a ton of money not to mention be healthier.

AMAZING book, excellent for first time vegans!

ALL cookbooks should be created like this one!! I’m a seasoned cook, & I won’t waste time w cookbooks that have no pics, little explanation, or poor layouts. BUT This one is WONDERFUL!! Great pics, tips & suggestions, realistic foods your family will actually want, made out of items you can find easily in most stores, and the whole tone of the book is positive & encouraging. There’s even space provided for you to make your own notes abt each recipe. Thank you Toni for writing a fun amazing book!

I am adding some vegan dishes to my meal rotation

I’m just putting a few vegan meals into my meal rotation. The simple delicious meals in this book make vegan cooking easy and non intimidating. I wanted to try some vegan dishes but other recipes had complicated recipes and odd expensive ingredients. This book has simply affordable recipes. My personal favorite is the black bean soup ... I’m never buying cans again ‘

Excellent Easy-to-Use Cookbook

I love this cookbook and use it all the time. So far, everything I’ve made in it tastes delicious. Even my teenage son loves it. The recipes are easy to make, easy to follow and are literally less than 30 minutes to make (and less than $30 if even that). She give great tips in the front of the book! I saw some reviews complain about her suggestions on using oil, but she does specifically state using water as substitute- so don’t let that sway your opinion of great tasting, budget friendly plant-based meals!

Simply delidious

Just what it says it is--a real vegan, really inexpensive, simple, good-tasting recipe book. I'm sure the author actually made and enjoyed eating the recipes herself; it's that good. Useful even if you aren't vegan but want a mostly plant-based diet. Just add an egg or two, a few pieces of cooked chicken, use real instead of plant-based milk. No exotic time-consuming, unavailable or expensive procedures or ingredients are required This book is for real, really busy health-conscious folks with plenty of other things to do.

Nice cookbook

A lot of vegan or vegetarian cookbooks have ingredients that I can't get in my local markets. This is a really easy cookbook and the ingredients are also minimal. Give it a try and eat more veggies :)

Good book, bad delivery

Book is great. Was damaged after delivery when it was stolen and dumped in a field, where police recovered it. The delivery driver decided to throw it on the lower steps instead of putting it near the door.

WFPB/Vegan IS Budget Friendly! 💜🍃

I love the way this cookbook is laid out, and the inclusion of suggestions from testers. It’s meant to be used in the trenches with room for my own additional notes . I am definitely not new to cooking but am relatively new to WFPB lifestyle while at the same time trying to learn and implement as much as I can . I have not always had the full support of my husband while Transitioning but recently he has joined me at least 75-80% in the effort to improve our health by making these much needed lifestyle changes. So Thank You Toni Okomoto for your fantastic cookbook which is quickly becoming my “Go To” for Easy, Healthy, WFPB ,Vegan, Budget Friendly Recipes!💜🍃

Fantastic!

LOVE IT. I’ve been plant based for a few months now and have absolutely loved it but sometimes I get tired of searching for recipes online that aren’t truly plant based. This cookbook is awesome!!! Simple recipes. Laid out in an organized way. Love her tips on saving on money and repurposing leftovers. The book is also very colorful and eye catching so it’s pleasing to flip through! Plus the recipes are colorful which is always appetizing. I have recommended this book to several people already!

Excellent book for everyone!

I am not a vegan or vegetarian, but I try to eat more plant based meals. This book is fantastic, and the recipes are all wonderful. I especially like Toni's tips and testers' tips. No matter your palate, this book has recipes that carnivores and herbivores will enjoy.

Highly recommended for anyone, vegetarian/vegan or otherwise

Love this book so much I got a copy for a friend! This has made me more confident in the kitchen and inspired me to meal prep more, eat healthy and save a ton bringing breakfast and lunch to work instead of buying. I would highly recommend this for vegans, vegetarians and also anyone who wants to learn some healthy, easy recipes without breaking the bank or sacrificing a lot of time.

Perfect for beginners of a plant-based diet

It's a great recipe book to start out with. I read a couple reviews that said some of the recipes shouldn't have even been included because they're so simple, but I disagree. I like having all those recipes there, they're great for ideas. And most of them aren't like that, like the quinoa and black bean stuffed bell peppers!! Yum!! I made them for my in-laws and they were a total hit, my MIL asked for the recipe!

Nice Start

Just started being Vegan. The recipes are good but I must find substitutes for the many items that have Soy. Some recipes just don't work for me due to allergies, much still to learn. You can't always substitute the food item. The cookbook has given me lots of ideas on how to expand my limited "vegan" diet, so a very nice start. There are things I would have never thought to try.

Exactly what I want in a cookbook

This cookbook layout is exactly how my cookbooks are. What I mean is, every time I follow a recipe or add my own flair to a recipe, I write it all down on a sticky note. I thought it was such a great idea to include a space to write and she had her friends add their tips too. Awesome. So far I've made the banana bread and thought it was a great recipe to continue following.

Can’t get a better vegan cookbook for vegan on a budget.

Absolutely adore this book! Fast becoming my fav of my growing collection of vegan cookbooks. ALL recipes are tried and true with no timing or ingredient errors. Helpful hints from other folks and addition list extremely helpful. Also, love the space provided to add our own notes! Plus pics of every recipe. And all with easy to find, everyday ingredients. We are addicting to the simple overnight oatmeal and the squash casserole.

So inspiring! I feel like cooking again.

What a fantastic book. I love the great pictures and find it so refreshing to have Toni"s pictures along with the beautiful food pictures. I feel as if I know her now. It makes it more personal some way. The recipes are easy to make and it's nice to save a little money along the way.

Finally! A book that doesn't want you to make a 30 ingredient black bean burger!

If you're on the hunt for a vegan cookbook and are sick of looking at recipes that require way too many ingredients and time, then look no further. This is the book for you! Toni keeps it clear and to the point! A lot of vegan cookbooks make me roll my eyes when they say how "easy" their recipes are when in reality, no one wants that weird looking "burger". I have searched high and low for an easy to read and follow cookbook and I found it! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Plant Based

With my profession in the kitchen, I get to use Plant Based on a Budget as a basic guide of ingredients for vegan cooking. This book serves a start introduction in familiarization with the most basic ingredients in this book. Many other recipes by these culinary artists show the usage of a more expanded variety of ingredients to use, learn, and sample within the art of vegan cuisine.

Love it or Leave it? LOVE IT!

I love this cookbook...after watching the documentary “What the Health” I realized I had to make a change. After doing some research, I came across Toni, her website and now this book. As someone new to this food journey, I love the easy recipes which do not require a lot various ingredients and could add to a “budget.” I have recommended this to family and friends and they all have ordered it after looking at mine. I’m excited to be able to share any healthier options of food to friends and family so thank you Toni!

Great book to help a startup vegan

Going through some health issues so starting vegan slowly it’s been about a month and we can say we are vegetarian. Vegan is proving to be really hard for us. This book actually has good recipes and If you look up the author she has some budget friendly ways to eat vegan! I did not think that was possible! If you want to start your vegan journey this is a good author and source!

An Awesome Cookbook (that everyone can enjoy - not just vegans)

This cookbook is amazing! For someone that is by no means a good cook, I now have everyone fooled. The recipes are easy, use affordable ingredients, and are super tasty. This book is very well done - pretty photos of every meal, great layout, easy to use and find what I want. I am a plant-based vegan, however this cookbook would be great for just about anyone. Really healthy wholesome recipes to complement and satisfy any diet. Highly recommend!

A go-to cookbook

I love how it has a grocery list and how she is not afraid to go to Goodwill. Everything looks super easy! And there are pictures for every recipe. I just bought this book so I’m hoping the recipes taste good, lol!

We are new to vegan cooking and this book has been terrific.

I bought the 'on a budget' book b/c I didn't want to have to buy a bunch of new things in order to try some vegan recipes. So far every meal has been a tasty success. Easy to follow directions & a few options for changing things up next time. HIghly recommended.

Simple and Tasty Plant Based Meals

This cookbook is great for those who are beginning a Plant Based lifestyle and for veterans. Limited ingredients and great helpful hints. Loved Slow Cooker Cookbook too!

Vegan weeknight kitchen guru

Following the recipes is easy and straightforward. All the "tips" Toni and her testers provide make it feel like you have a veritable chef whispering in your ear as you go. The recipes are so simple and flavorful, the vegan newbie/wannabe will be able swap out some meat meals without missing a thing.

Excellent book!

This was my first vegan book and it didn’t disappoint at all. The recipes are easy to follow, everything has a picture, and I love the options/tips given for every recipe as well. They are truly budget friendly and the sample week menu in the back is incredible. I feel like this book “held my hand” as I began my vegan journey and helped make it successful. I still use it every week for at least 2-3 recipes! (especially the sweet potato tacos, they are ridiculous delicious)

Eating healthy and saving money at it's best!

It's incredible how much time and money you can save while being healthy with the tips and tricks in this book. The author does a great job of telling you her insights, and making sure you have all the tools you need. The layout is beautiful too, with note space on the recipe pages for you to add in your preferences on each recipe. Plus, the recipes are really delicious from the one's I've tried! I wish I had this back in college when I was first learning to cook on a budget, but it's never too late to save money and eat well at the same time. Even if you're not on a budget, these recipes form a great base for just about anything. yum!

Save money... and time?? YES, Please!

I cannot love this book more! Love all the tips on saving money and time and the recipes don’t have a mile-long list of ingredients. I don’t know why I had not made chickpea salad before but if you liked tuna salad and are looking for a plant-based version that is easy and delicious.... SHE HAS ONE!!! 😝 it’s so good! Highly recommend this cookbook!

Recipes are simple to follow, require normal ingredients, and are very tasty!

I bought this book to help transition my family into eating more vegan meals and I love it! Some of our favorite dinners came from this book. I have 2 small children and they don’t mind eating vegan food when it tastes this good. The recipes are simple to follow, require normal ingredients, and they are very tasty.

My favorite cookbook!

I actually love this cookbook.. all my other vegan/veg cookbooks have the most complicated recipes with unknown ingredients. This book is just simple, easy to use, and I've brought about 10 of the dishes into my regular rotation. LOVE IT!

Great resource for adding vegan recipes

I've been trying to add more vegetarian dishes to my cooking but a lot of cookbooks are filled w/ recipes that just look like garbage. This book has a nice selection of meals you'd actually eat ( &that are economical too). May not try everything but have loved everything that I've tried.

GREAT COOKBOOK

Great, easy to follow recipes... makes plant based diet easy to understand and variety makes it easy to stay compliant

Delicious, easy to make recipes

I'm inspired to write this review based on how good the Plant Based On A Budget recipe is for Pumpkin Pie! After trying a lot of other vegan pumpkin pie recipes, this is the only one that tastes like the vegetarian version made with eggs and evaporated milk (my all-time favorite pie). I've tried several other recipes in this book as well, and they're all very good. The fact that the recipes use everyday ingredients and are easy and delicious makes it easier to eat vegan. PLUS the emphasis on affordability!

Perfect for both beginners and people with experience.

This is what I have been needing all my life ha ha. I have a hard time finding tomato base recipes and there is a pretty big mix here. Simple meals, lots of pictures, easy to follow. Great for Beginners and going back to basics. This book is impressive and I have a lot of them lol.

Great book

The book is well organized by category. It has nice graphics and easy to read recipes. We use it all the time for meal planning.

Nice variety of recipes for cheap

Good cookbook full of great recipes and tips on how to cook plant based on a budget. Also includes many options for instant pot recipes.

Nice book good pictures

This book is so good, I don’t use oil but easy enough fix I’ve made several recipes and all are easy and taste good

Plant-Based Recipes and “real food” ingredients!

The book was a gift for a vegetarian family member. They were delighted at the healthy, plant-based recipes and expressed interest in trying some of the recipes soon. Unlike some cookbooks, these were “real food options for everyday people!” I saw the author on Hallmark’s Home & Family lifestyle show and was very impressed with her and the dish she prepared on the show.

Toni makes vegan cooking simple and real.

This isn't one of those books that wants to show off, offering recipes you'll only have the time to make on your days off. Toni's book offers REAL recipes for real busy people that just want to eat fast and healthy. I also love that she teaches how to make the basics, like an amazing tomato salsa and tempeh bacon. Her recipes can be customized for whatever is in your kitchen at the moment, so you don't have to worry about buying something special every week just to make a good dinner. Stick to the vegan pantry basics and you'll be relieved making food is so easy!

Delicious and simple!

Fantastic recipes, especially for savory stuff. Be wary of the baking. If you’re not strictly plant-based/vegan, add in an egg or two to the baking recipes—otherwise the dough doesn’t rise enough and works more as a dense paste (works especially well if egg whites are whipped to soft peaks and added separately). This makes them rise and maintain the lift for much better results.

Great book.

This book is SPECIAL. I bought two books -- one for me and one for my college graduate and very busy working grand-daughter. Quick, simple and delicious recipes. We are each WFPB and Vegan. Thank you very much.

Easy, delicious and CHEAP

I got hooked on Toni Okamoto's weekly meal plans on her website, and ever since I heard about this book I've been waiting for it to come out. There is so much to love. In order of my favorite things (best thing first): 1. PICTURES FOR EVERY RECIPE! I like to "scan" cookbooks for things that look yummy, and that's hard to do with just printed recipes. This book has a picture for basically every recipe, so I can flip through it and find things I want to try. 2. Lots of great tips and tricks. There's a whole section at the front that's like a how-to for developing low-cost plant-based eating as a lifestyle. 3. The "back to basics" section at the back, that has cooking methods/times for basics like beans and grains. 4. Everything is pretty easy, which I guess it has to be if you're going to spend less than 30min start to finish. 5. Everything is SUPER inexpensive - but she also gives ideas for add-ons if you have a couple extra dollars to spend.

Yummy, frugal and healthy!

Delicious recipes. I liked how she encourages one to be creative with her recipes. The ingredients are similar enough to make meal planning simple yet the recipes are different enough to make meal time exciting

One of my favorites!

I have over a dozen plant-based or vegan cookbooks. This is one of my favorites due to simplicity and outright delicious recipes included. No crazy, hard-to-find ingredients are required. The photos are great and I love that there is space to add your own notes. The criticism of the use of oils (which is very minimal) I feel is unfounded since she includes ways to avoid this.

Great base to start cooking!

I just became vegan and needed structure to get started. This book is full of great recipes and tips from Toni as well as people who have made the recipes. It's super easy to sub ingredients as well. For example, if you want something to be healthier then use water instead of oil or possibly apple sauce for a baking recipe! Can't wait to make all the recipes :)

Buy this cookcook

I own a number of plant based & vegan cookbooks. I highly recommend this one. The recipes are tasty, not complicated and use readily available, inexpensive ingredients. You will use a cookbook that calls for ingredients you can find at your local grocery store.

Title Says It All

This book delivers exactly what the title implies. It is well-written with every recipe having a great photo of the finished product. As a whole-food Plant-based nutritionist at a medi-spa I will definitely be recommending this book for clients.

Buy this!

This is honestly the best cookbook I have ever bought! I recently switched to vegetarian about a month ago and was struggling to find recipes. I don't have a lot of time to make delicate meals because I work in EMS. I tried my first recipe today before work. It was incredibly delicious and so easy to make! All of the recipes in this book seem so easy to make. I cant wait to try more! 10/10 recommend!

Yay/Nay

I gave 4 stars. If you're looking for a whole food plant- based cookbook, this is not it, as majority of the recipes call for oil. Canola oil is terrible for you along with granulated sugar. I'm disappointed in the book being promoted as plant-based when it's more "vegan". Yes, I can omit the oil, but I bought this book thinking the book was strictly plant-based.

Easy to follow recipes for building a plant based repertoire!

I recently moved my household to plant based cooking with one meat meal a week for health, environmental, and financial reasons. Learning how to restructure my meals was difficult after always constructing a meal around the animal protein. This book has beautiful pictures, easy to follow recipes, and really delivers on its 'on a budget' tagline. Part of what can make switching to plant based is learning how to make new staples, and this book delivers. I can't wait to get all the way though this book and master new recipes. Wonderful cookbook!

Glad I found this book

Lots of really great and easy recipes that aren’t too elaborate and incorporate things I already buy and have in the pantry. I love that everything is fast to make 30 minutes and tastes great. Eating plant based is easier than I thought.

A perfect hostess present, birthday gift, or to cheer-up a friend!

I've been looking for a simple introduction to vegan cooking and this beautiful cookbook makes it so easy! I love that each recipe has a gorgeous photograph, and is very easy to follow. The "tester's tips" are a great extra and I like having the lined spaces to add my own notes. This is the perfect book for someone who wants to jump right in and start making vegan dishes and snacks. I started with the Green Banana Smoothie which is the first kale smoothie that has tasted good to me! (I used coconut cream and almond milk and had all the ingredients in my fridge already.) Dinner tonight: Sweet Potato Tacos. The book is very reasonably priced and perfect to give to friends and family as a hostess present, birthday gift, or a little something for a friend.

LOVE

I love this cookbook, 1.) Almost every recipe has a photo attached (who doesn't love that) 2.) The ingredients list doesn't take up the whole first page of the recipe. 3.) Each recipe has simple and easy to find ingredients as you would expect for on a budget cookbook. 4.) I love that each meal can be made in 30 minutes or less! 100% happy I purchased this book and I can't wait to try more amazing recipes! Toni you rock! :)

A Great Cookbook!

What a beautiful and wonderful cookbook!! The layout is bright and colorful, wonderful photos, interesting narrative throughout. The recipes are simple, quick, and absolutely delicious! It shows you once and for all how to eat cheaply and healthy, using ingredients you can find at any grocery store. It would be worth three times the cost!

Very glad I found this book.

Love this book. New to the plant based diet and this book has a lot of good tips. Helps a lot with shopping and cooking. Very glad I found it.

Excellent recipes. Super simple for someone who loves to cook but has limited time.

Great, easy recipes for a food lover. Some of my favorites so far are the sweet potato tacos, overnight oats that take about 60 seconds to prep, and vegan Caesar salad dressing which tastes just like the original kind. My spouse is not vegan, but claims these are the best recipes I've cooked since going vegan a year ago.

Easy, tasty recipes with common ingredients

I have made about half a dozen recipes from the book so far. They are easy to make, and very tasty. Easy to replace oils with water or broth and make as healthy as you like. Definitely a cookbook worthy of our 600 plus titles. I recommend it highly to add to your collection.

Cane damaged on the inside of the box while the outside is fine.

Book came curled and damaged inside the box. Got it to use as a gift and didn’t open it until before the occasion, can’t refund. Not worth.

best cookbook!

these recipes are amazing! the directions are clear and all of the tips included in the book are so helpful. it includes a sample week meal plan and shopping list! my grocery store spending has decreased considerably after using this book! eating and cooking vegan doesn't have to be difficult and time intensive as proven by this book!

Toni never disappoints!

I’ve loved anything Toni has to offer ever since I became a vegan. I love how down to earth and everyday kitchen her recipes are! This book will be a favorite for years!

Great recipes, not all are actual plant based..

This is a great cookbook but not a completely plant based cookbook! I was a little discouraged by this but quickly decided the plant based recipes were worth it!

Exactly what it says it is!

The recipes are simple and they really are inexpensive!!! The Totchos are the greatest. Normal ingredients, too. I’m fairly certain I will make it though every recipe in the book. Something I’ve never done with a cookbook.

The answer to delicious, healthy meals without a long shopping list

This has become my go to cookbook for creating healthy meals fast and without a zillion ingredients. I’ve loved the recipes and I appreciate the simplicity. I love the My Tips section as I am one to write notes on recipes. Please write more cookbooks. The photos and layout is also spot on. But the recipes are really tasty and so easy to put together.

Plant based made easy

I love the way this cookbook is organized. Makes it eady to make notes and personalize the reciped. I love love love the lentil tacos revipe and the turmeric potato soup! Look forward to trying more!

Excellent Starter for Newbies

For someone who is transitioning to a plant-based diet, this book provides easy-to-follow recipes and suggestions. Well-written. LOTS of photos which makes it fun and inspirational.

Great beginner book for anyone new to plant based diet.

This really is a budget friendly cookbook. Great for beginners transitioning to vegan or plantbased diet. The author offers a lot of things you can choose to add to recipes. The only thing that would have made this book perfect, for me would have been a nutrition breakdown of each recipe. I do recommend this book.

Easy recipes, simple ingredients

I am a vegan living on a pretty tight budget and this book has been wonderful. I started using it in college and it had recipes that were simple and quick. Now that I am working full-time it is my go-to source whenever I need inspiration for what food to make. This cookbook has really helped me enjoy food more and become a more adventurous chef, without hurting my wallet!

Great Book!

This is a great book for people like me who are just getting started with vegan recipes. The ingredients are very easy to find and the meals are tasty. I highly recommend this book!

Loved it!

I enjoyed this cookbook. Great tips on saving money and fresh new ingredient recipes for plant based eating. Great starter cookbook.

Inexpensive Easy Delicious

Okamoto has really put together practical and tasty vegan recipes here! They’re easy to follow and the ingredients are available in any grocery store. I use this as my daily go-to guide. I’m very happy with this book!!!

U can make the transition to plant-based eating!

I love this book! It has really made my plant-based journey so much more doable and easier. I want to make every recipe in this book. I’ve made about 15 of the recipes and 14 have been perfect! Thanks for writing a plant-based cookbook that stretches me just enough and gives me confidence in my ability to be successful in this journey.

Very Practical book

this is a wonderful book full of great advice and easy recipes. It is very will written and enjoyable to read. It was a gift to myself. Highly recommended.

Plant Based Meals Simplified

I rarely write reviews. But this book and life style change can have huge positive impact on some ones health. I just received this cook book and it's so we'll written I couldn't put it down. I love that she simplifies the plant based diet. Prior to getting this book I was overwhelmed. I now feel like it's not only possible to eat more plant based but I'm now looking forward to it.

Great cook book

So easy and tasty- simple ingredients I have on hand. Why can’t all Healthy cook books be like this? Such a great find to kick off plant based eating!

Great book, easy to follow recipes

Eating vegan, learning to cook new things

It’s user friendly! It talks to the average person about eating plant based!

I love this book! I refer to it when I can’t think of something or I’m in the mood to try a new recipe!

Definitely recommend this book!!!

I love this book sooo much!!!! It has great and tasty recipes, they are also very easy to make and affordable. 100 % recommend!!! ❤

Superb!

So, I hate to cook. Recipes overwhelm me. But not with this book. It’s easy, beautiful, simple and even leaves room for the owner to add any notes or reminders for the next time they prepare a meal. LOVE THIS BOOK!

Quick and easy recipes

So today I got Toni’s book “plant based on a budget “in the mail .fantastic !!!! the pictures are beautiful bright and fresh fruits and vegetables all throughout the book. Easy to make recipes with food it’s already in my fridge most days.

Hummus and Avocado Bagel???

I am a follower and user of the plant based eating budget website. I thought by buying this book it would include more meal plans and recipes than what is available on her website. The good part of this book is that the recipes are easy to make and offer recommendations for modifications. The most disappointing recipe: hummus and avocado bagel? Really? I don’t think I need a recipe for that......

A must buy!

Love this book! I recently switched to plant based for medical reasons and this helped me to get out of my comfort zone and play around with flavors and ingredients I wasn't used to using in this way. 100% recommend. If I had to make one criticism, some recipes need a little more seasoning than listed, but maybe that's just me.

Beautiful, practical cook book!

I love this book! The pictures are beautiful, the information is concise and very practical and helpful. The recipes are healthy, delicious, customizable, and economical. Worth every penny!

The first recipe I’ve tried was a definite winner. Easy and so good. Many others jumped out at me right away and are flagged to try soon. :)

Hardest part... which recipes to make first!

Fantastic kitchen resource for a plant-based home. Recipes are very tasty 😋 and easy to prepare. Maybe cookbook with kid-friendly(picky eaters) could be next?!? 😁

Eh

I didn't think the recipes were that good and nothing you couldn't find online. Im also not sure how these were budget friendly. Just had an opening section on creating a budget. I wasn't very impressed.

This was just okay

I had great hopes for this cookbook saving me money but I didn't find a lot of the recipes suited me so I should have saved money by not buying it. I had tried to get it from the library first but there was a long waiting list so I took a chance. I wish I had waited.

Amazing Cookbook

I have Toni's first cookbook and I decided to get this second one. I'm so glad that I did! I've had so much fun going through the recipes. There are so many recipes that I want to try! All of the recipes are easy to follow and are made with easy to find ingredients. I love the layout, the photos, and the tips sections! If you're looking for delicious recipes that are budget friendly, this is your cookbook. It truly is amazing!

Best budget friendly cookbook

The title says it all! Haven’t made all the recipes but the ones I have done are amazing. Had this book for a few months now. I’m Obsessed with the zucchini potato casserole recipe.

easy recipes but bland

Im not strictly vegan or vegetarian. The recipes are bland...easy to make, but bland. The author does offer solutions to add more flavor though.

Great Recipes

Love, love, love this cookbook. The recipes are easy, fast, and delicious. It is now my go-to for something new to have for a meal. Love that there are photos of all the dishes. Anyone can make these dishes. I have given them to friends as they make a wonderful gift. More and more folks are trying to eat more healthily and this is a really great way to start.

Great book

This book has lots of great recipes and ideas for saving money.

Great book!

Great book. Can’t say enough. Every recipe has a color picture of finished product.

Fabulous WFPB Recipes

Toni has made easy, healthy and affordable meal plan and recipes. Thanks Toni! I would recomend to friends!

One of my favorite cookbooks

This is my “go to” cookbook when I need to make something quick, easy and cheap.

Very exhaustive

Gives information on shopping for all veggie ingredients, gives great recipes, especially the tofu recipes.

easy delicious--good for newbies

I have had this book for a little over a week and love it. I have been trying to eat mostly plant based for a while, and have a few books, but I have made a weeks worth of dinners and a couple sweet treats from this book and love them. They are easy, tasty---definitely at the front of my book line!

Best cookbook ever

I love this book! The recipes are so easy, affordable and delicious! I’m not a fan of cookbooks or fancy recipes, but this book has been a huge help for my dinners and motherhood.

Soooo Good!

I love this cookbook. It comes in super handy if I just can't figure out what to make to eat as the ingredients are always in my cupboard. Super simple and super tasty food.

Great value!! A daily useful guide!!

Many simple recipes. Chickpea salad is delicious!! Simple recipes, budget friendly with easy to find ingredients!! This book delivered!! Love her and will follow her forever. Less oil would make it perfect!!

New go-to cookbook

Love this book. Have prepared 6-8 recipes and they are easy and accurate.

PBWF recipes for the average person

Simple, delicious recipes that are easy to prepare.

Plant-based on a budget means delicious.

What a great cookbook - cover to cover. The photos are beautiful and the recipes are delicious and easy to follow. I especially appreciate the tips and variations which encourage me to use what I have on hand.

Helpful for new plant based cooks

Nice pictures and helpful tips to customize recipes

Great book

Really like the recipes in this one and they are pretty easy. Recommend

Very happy with this book!

I have a family of five and I would have to say that the 30 dollar a week claim was pretty spot on! Making all meals from this book for one week saved me at least $100, so I definitely try to incorporate at least a few of these meals into my weekly meal plan. Recipes are easy and fast with simple ingredients.

Nice

I have looked through book as a newbie I can see myself using these recipes! I would recommend to beginners like me.

Must Have!

This is a great cookbook! I have made multiple recipes from it and have been consistently surprised by how easy and flavorful the recipes have been.

Pleasantly Surprised

I'm loving this cookbook! Every recipe I've made is delicious. Usually I'll make a couple of of recipes from a cookbook and then forget about it... this one keeps surprising me! I just started doing the meal plan in the back of the book, and found it to be customizable to a busy, all-over-the-place life. I usually spend way too much on food, so this has been very helpful for me.

Vegan Recipes

It was just what I hoped for, lots of recipes and crisp photos.

Love this cookbook!

I love the idea of having easy vegan meals! The pictures DO WONDERS and the food is just right! I will be buying some more copies to give out as gifts <3

A practical book that will save you money

I loved the blog, and Toni’s previous slow cooker cookbook. So when this one was coming out, I got one for myself, my mom, and a friend of mine. Money well spent, since I’m getting away from processed food, and I know that those people I purchased it for will put the information to good use. And who doesn’t like saving money?!

Cheap, fun, and delicious recipes

I love this book! We just recently decided to go plant based and this has been amazing for us. Most plant based cookbooks have so many ingredients that are expensive or hard to find, so this is a great way for my family to get started with going plant based.

Delicious recipes- easy and quick!

Really delicious ingredients, not hard to find, and economical! This food is good, and diverse in the flavor profiles. Highly recommend this book. Check out her website and weekly newsletter!

Great!

Just what I needed.

Gift for a friend

She loved it.

I love this cookbook!

I love this book! I’ve cooked so many of the of the recipes already. Everything has been so easy to make, delicious and cheap!

Worth every penny!

One of the best cookbooks I ever bought. Every recipe tastes great and is easy to make. I can’t wait for the future ones.

Healthy recipies

Tasty economical recipies

Budget friendly meals

Have made a few things from this cookbook, salsa recipe is delicious! Appreciate that the recipes don’t call for a lot of items that are difficult to find or are too expensive. Lots of basics that a seasoned cook might not need a recipe for like burrito bowls or salads but I definitely found enough things I will make to make it worth the price.

Delish, easy, economical Plant-based cooking with common ingredients

Good recipes with available ingredients. Not much fussing. Lovely pictures of dishes. Good general suggestions for meals. Gave it to my 85yo mom newly interested in plant-based after health issues. She liked it.

Recommended

Has some very good recipes without calling for expensive items you've never seen in your grocery store. Wise to ignore some of the open mouthed pictures of the author.

Good Start

It's a good start, but many dishes are based in noodles (I'm not big on noodles). I think I've only written down a few recipes from the book. But it's well-written and easy to follow.

Buy it

Loved everything about this book

Quick and easy

Quick and easy recipes, especially for beginners.

Great Book

I love the attention to detail, the pics in the book, and the recipes. So well done. Most important I love the food ideas.

This Cookbook is a MUST HAVE!

Love all the recipes! They are easy to make and easy to find ingredients.

LOVE THIS!

Super helpful, super important! Finally someone have put the weight on the 3 things I care about most: plant-based, healthy - and on a budget! And well - also quick! So that's SO useful to me. Thanks Toni for another great book!

Excellent recipes!

I am very impressed with this cookbook. Everything sounds great, and everything is so easy to make. I love the added tips from people who had already tried the recipes. Everything I have tried so far has been a major hit with my family! I highly recommend the chilaquiles.

Boring book!!

Book was a big disappointment! Why? No nutritional facts or colorful pictures, so you can see what your recipes should look like after you make them.

Great Starter Plant Based Eating Guide with Recipes

Good basic book on starting your Vegan/plant based eating program. Lots of basic recipes which are easy for someone just starting to eat this way with a lot of pointers and suggestions.

The very best cookbook to stay on track on a budget

Love love love this book, the recipes use easily available ingredients, not complicated or time consuming, just my favorite, so very happy to have this❤❤❤

Great recipe book!

Most of the recipes are delicious, but be careful because some of the measurements are incorrect. For example: one recipe called for 1 cup of water to 1 cup of lentils - it should have been 3 cups of water. First batch burned! Remade with 3 cups of water and it was perfectly delicious.

Fast, easy and good meals

Wonderful book with easy to fix recipes.

Beautiful Cookbook

Very nice cookbook. I’m eager to try the recipes! Has great pictures too. I like that in a cookbook so I know what it is SUPPOSED to look like. 😁

Fabulous

I love how this book is written! Toni Okamoto does a great job of making her recipes simple and customizable.
