Pete the Cat's Super Cool Reading Collection: 5 I Can Read Favorites! (My First I Can Read)

I bought this for my 4 year old, who learned phonics, then quickly went through the "Dick and Jane" readers (Levels 1 and 2). She gained an immense interest in reading. However, these "Pete the Cat" books started reversing her interest. Even her regular board books are better. Each of the "Pete the Cat" books repeat the easy words, but only introduce the difficult ones, once. In other words, your child will not build upon previously learned words, as they would with a series like "Dick and Jane". I reviewed other "I Can Read" series' books and came to the same conclusion. These children book authors aren't experts in literacy or teaching children how to read. They don't know how to write books to improve a child's reading skills. What a waste of money.

Pete the Cat is my son's favorite at the moment. It started when he came home from school and brought home a Pete the Cat book and I must say, I absolutely fell in love with Pete after reading the book he brought home. Soon after, I saved money here and there just to be able to buy him some more. These books were his weekly reward for doing good at school and every week he looked forward to receiving and reading these Pete the Cat book. If I were to ask him to pick a favorite he would tell me ALL OF THEM! I was glad to purchase this particular one because it came with 5 books plus a case (with a handle) to hold them in. Now he can take Pete the Cat wherever he goes.

I love these fun Pete the cat books! They are super cool, colorful and celebrate children’s favorite topics. Perfect starter sentences and clear text makes this a winner for early readers. We ordered the carry all pack of I can read books, plus a Pete the Cat matching game and the Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes game for our 5 year old nephew. He will love this! He loves cats and cupcakes! (And sprinkles!) This will help him keep busy during Covid-19 quarantine. Every kid loves getting things in the mail, so we’ll mail it along with other care package items. He will be learning, but Shhhhhh! He won’t even know it because he will be having so much fun with Pete the Cat!

The box: very sturdy, has a small handle, and velcro to open and shut the box. There is a space holder in there which my kid will probably use to color on so I like that too. Books: There are 5 exactly as described. They are perfect condition! This collection was perfect because it was reasonably priced with 5 books that we didn't have already.

Who does not like "Pete the cat" books .My daughter has just started Kindergarten this year and these books are her favorite . They have small sentences and colorful illustrations . You get five books . I have attached the pics . I have even kept a book on A4 size white sheet , so you can see that it is not a large book . Good size for kids to hold and read. The box that it comes with is sturdy enough to handle the wear and tear in kids hands for some time. A Velcro round pad is used to open and close the case. Cannot say how long the velcro will hold with numerous open and close session with kids .

I do home-based teaching for students who live with ASD. They love individual Pete the Cat stories from the big hardcover books that I brought, especially the I Like My White shoe ones. We read and sang it a lot. Most of them memorized word by word on each page. So I thought, they might enjoy this edition as well. Well, I thought a bit wrong. The stories are a bit wordy and long for them, except for Pete's Big Lunch. But not to worry, for now, I just read and act on each story with its "shorter" version. I'm planning to keep utilizing these reading materials as they grow older and develop a longer attention span. Besides, the books do help with sight words recognitions.

Great, well-priced gift set. We really love Pete the Cat books, they have great lessons. My favorite is "Play Ball", it teaches such a great lesson about not being upset when you aren't the best at sports. In the book, Pete doesn't hit the ball, doesn't catch the ball, and gets out at home plate (on a walk), but he's not upset and is just happy for his teammates' success. Very well done without being too preachy.

I have a new reader! She asked for books, not toys, from Santa this year! This purchase was perfect as she will have many choices and make a new friend (Pete) in the process. Not only are the books delightful, they tickle her funny bone and she laughs. That tells me that she is doing much more than sounding words out, she is experiencing "reading comprehension." The books are packaged so nicely in the box with a velcro closure. The box is sturdy, not flimsy at all. I like that it will help encourage her to keep her books put away and tidy! The price of this set was about a quarter of what I would pay for one or two books at my local B&N. In fact I purchase all of her books on Amazon now, as the value is amazing!

The difficulty level is perfect for 3 year-olds. You just need to gauge your own kid's learning ability before purchasing this. It's excact as the back of the book says: simple sentence, easy to follow. So if your kids are more advanced in reading this could be too simple. I received all five books and no duplicates.

I bought these for my niece's 4th birthday. She is just starting to read on her own, here and there, so I thought I'd get her something that was a bit above the baby/toddler book level. I saw the Pete the Cat books and though he was very cute and the stories seemed fun. I know that when my niece likes something, she's going to want to use (or in this case, read) that item over and over. This means re-reading the same books for my sister and brother-in-law. These books look fun and amusing even for the adults. My niece is already obsessed with them and is working on reading them with her parents. I also love how affordable these books are. Even the single, soft-cover books are very low in price, which I think is so important for a book that will be lightly (or heavily) abused if you're giving them to children of a young age. They are also light, thin, and portable, especially with the case that this set comes in. I would highly recommend these.

Pete the Cat books that the kids can't get enough of. Both my two and four-year-old love these books, and want me to read all five when we pull them out (almost every night). I've since bought more Pete the Cat books, and they have went over with resounding success. The two-year-old is memorization reading two of these books (Pete's Big Lunch and Too Cool for School) and the four-year-old is identifying and reading most of the words in the books. Great books for kids. I purchased these as I thought the Thomas the Train books were too demanding for beginning readers, and was very happy that I did so. The other reviews were great in helping to make this purchase.

I don't think we'll be buying more books about Pete the Cat. It doesn't seem like our son enjoys them being read as much as other books we have, probably because illustrations are poor and not very interesting to look at. I guess it would be good for a child who's learning to read but not for younger children who have their parents read to them.

Great for my older kid in Kindergarten. Because we make reading interesting, he has improved tremendously and is ahead of his curve now. He is one of my foster children and so it's also a plus that the books have every day situations that help us explain life and things to him.

Bought these for my 3.5 year old granddaughter. She's not reading yet but she loves these stories and carrying the case around and loves sliding the book in and out. Pete is positive and easy going and has friends so think these books have a great message.

I was supposed to get 5 different books but I got 2 the same (Pete the cat Pete’s big lunch) and am missing (Pete the cat play ball) very disappointing

Wish I had read the reviews! Definitely not for a person learning to read. Big words, not too much repetition. We shelved these for later (after having read *almost one* and struggling through it, and pulled some good ole Dr Seuss off the shelf. Disappointed.

We used these for party favors. The price can't be beat and I liked getting the multipack, but the stories were not all winners to me -- we really like the Pet for Pete, but the Play Ball is tough if you don't already understand baseball.

Never heard of pete the cat until my daughter brought a book home from school one day, this collection is a fun and easy way to get started into reading, lots of bright descriptive pictures and simple stories that my daughter enjoys over and over again. My boys love these books. Only down side was the 5 book set came with 2 of the same book. We had 2 pete gets a pet books and no oete at the beach book. My son was really sad about it. They were other wise perfect.

He was able to read his books at school and they counted towards his AR. He was excited about that. Targeted at a much younger audience than I expected. Very EASY to read - 3-6 words per page, and very simple words. Definitely for a complete beginner reader. My 6 year old daughter still enjoys reading them even though they're a bit under her level.

At 4 he recognizes the stories so much that he can read 2 of the stories himself with minimal help from mom (me). The stories are engaging and fun for little ones. Nice introduction to Pete the Cat. Simple, colorful, entertaining illustrations and nice little stories.

My 6 year old has just finished Kindergarden and this book is something she can grow into. She loves the silly storyline and illustrations. She can read more than 70% of the words because she knows all of her high frequency words. I think this is a true level one reader, not too easy and not too hard, maybe 2 sentences on each page.

Now that few schools are open and parents are doing remote learning, these easy readers are so helpful! Good clueing with the pictures.

It's Pete the Cat what could possibly be wrong? My 5 year old grandson (and me too) are in love with Pete. We love his stories and relate them to everyday life when we read them. We want more and can't get enough.

Bought these for my kindergartner and they're a little more advanced then they should be for a 1st reader book in my opinion. If your child is an advance reader for 6yrs old they would work. Other then that that are a cute set for reading at bed time.

The publisher is so cheap, that they added a cardboard filler where they could have added one more book..

My 2 year old loves this character! He asks me to read these books often. It's nice that they come in a little caddy that they can be stored and carried in. This is also great for my 6 year old who can now read. He is able to read them to his brother now.

Who doesn't love a good Pete the Cat book? I bought these to give as gifts instead of cards (at about $2 apiece they make a nice extra gift that costs the same as a card). But my 3-year old likes them so much we are apparently going to have to buy a second set!

I heard a couple of Pete the Cat books while I was a work as a Para Educator in a preschool setting. I instantly fell in love and decided to purchase this set of books for my niece for her 5th Birthday. They have become a favorite to read at night before bed. These are a great addition to my 4 year old daughter's new love of Pete the Cat. She has added a few Pete books from Scholastic and this box set was an even better deal! The 5 books in the set are a nice variety! I hope to find another set!

My son (4) enjoys the stories. I find them a bit simple compared to some other kids books. The illustrations are good. The one Pete the Cat book I would recommend is Pete and the Bad Banana. The rest of this collection falls short of that standard.

Excellent set for an-almost reader. My 4-year old is really into "reading" but isn't ready to read on his own. These books are great for the transition. I read it to him and after a few times through he has started to sight-read certain words that are repetitive (like mom, Pete, etc.). He enjoys the stories, although they're pretty basic for mom/dad to read over and over, but that's the best way to get them reading on their own!

Currently Pete the Cat books are my 6 year old's favorite books. He really enjoys reading them to me. I was happy to find this set and he was so happy when it arrived!

Great starter books. My 4 year old is really into reading himself. We started with a few of the easy to sound out words and added new ones each week. He's pretty much reading these on his own now. Great buy!

Got these for my kiddo for xmas and she LOVES them! Pete is SUCH a hit w the kiddos and great stories too! The little box is nice and too cute! Happy with this one!

This product came with only 4 of the 5 books. It did not come with pete at the beach. It came with two copies of pete the cat too cool for school. I would give this a five out of five if we could get a copy of pete atthe beach.

Beginning readers (and their adult listeners!) will be hooked on Pete from the first book. The illustrations are childlike but clever and Pete does everything with an appealing, easy groove. We love Pete!

My 2 year old is a huge Pete the cat fan. These will be great for when he is learning to read and they are fun for me to read now

My 1st grade daughter requested these books after reading one in school. They are silly and fun, which completely captures hers attention. She can read them herself and also enjoys having them read to her. My 2 year old son also loves these. He giggles as I read to him. I love that these are lightweight paperback books. I often slip a book or two into my purse if we are heading somewhere, and I don't want to carry a bulky heavy book. My kids always have several books in the seatback pocket in the car. These Pete the Cat books slip in wonderfully! These are engaging books that are interesting to young readers. A very nice set of books!

My daughter loves Pete the Cat. She was so excited. Some of her favorites in a nice box with a handle. Perfect size for taking them on the go (typical First Reader size books). Great first readers, and Pete the Cat is just awesome! I highly recommend.
