Getting a grip on the creation and ultimate fate of the universe is one of the great scientific stories of the twentieth century. In the twenty-first, the story is expanding to enfold many universes. Michio Kaku's dazzling book tells that new story. Using the latest astronomical data, he explores the Big Bang, theories of everything, and our cosmic future. His wonderfully clear scientific account leads to some mind-boggling speculations about the human implications of this story. Are we condemned to watch a single universe slowly run down, becoming a dark, cold wasteland? Or can we dream of escaping into one of many parallel universes, each born of a new Big Bang, or even existing in another dimension? Kaku shows how the new cosmology points to these and other astonishing possibilities.

Well worth the time

Since I am a layperson and a non-scientist, this book took me several weeks to read. It was well worth the time. Professor Kaku addresses issues in cosmology thoroughly but with great clarity. Each chapter drew me further into pondering the origins of the universe, the possible existence of parallel universes, and the issues raised by these reflections about the future of humanity. As a Christian, I especially appreciated his reflections about the meaning of life and his unbiased and inclusive thoughts about the relevance of religion to cosmology. Highly recommended.

An Enlightening Tour into String Theory

One of my favorite books. I'm hardly the science-type, but I've gotten sucked into Physics (study of matter) as a kind of hobby. Michio Kaku takes his readers on an entertaining yet enlightening tour of string theory. This is the theory that the smallest material particle in the universe is not a point in space but a string, and how that string vibrates determines the element. Changing the vibration results in a different element. Dr Kaku is not afraid of heretical questions, asking "If the universe is a symphony of strings, then is there a Composer?" In his chapter "A Designer Universe?" he acknowledges the evidence for a Creator and explains his disinclination to believe. Likely Dr Kaku doesn't know or doesn't care that the Bible includes stories of, and references to, and promises of parallel worlds. Dr Kaku has self-promoting tendencies, as his critics rightly claim. But his desire to gain an audience enriches his explanatory skills. He has mastered the ability to present scientific theory in a manner unscientific audiences can understand, yet without talking down to us. This is a skill other Physics authors--Lisa Randall "Warped Passages", Heinerich Pas "The Perfect Wave"--never quite master. (Both books well worth reading.) If you're a Physics hobbyist like myself, or simply enjoy thinking in new ways, "Parallel Worlds" is a great launch pad into current thinking about reality. ~

A layperson's guide for understanding quantum theory.

An incredible amount of information packed into this small book. I read bits and pieces at will based on my interests, for example scientific views on free will and determinism. It is written in laymen's language and one doesn't need to be a scientist to understand. Michio Kaku's views about future reality come from quantum theory micro world, and seem very surreal and bizarre . Very interesting.

A theory of everything for everyone!

Summary in a nutshell (or rather in a string): Kaku has the gift to put into words some of the most sophisticated theories of physics today. He is the one who came up with the equation that summarizes the field theory of strings. The heart of the electron is a vibrating string, tinier than a proton. If we were to pluck the string, its vibrations would change it into any one of the known subatomic particles. Did you know that the 5th dimension is light? If Einstein had never discovered relativity, his theory might have been discovered as a by-product of string theory, because the lowest vibration is a quantum of gravity. All 11 parallel dimensions are probably encoded in these strings, and might be revealed sometime in our technological future. This book was published in 2005 but most of it still stands today in 2014. Perhaps some minor updates for the microwave data from the WMAP satellite (after more recent calculations, 26.8% rather than 23% of the universe is made up of dark matter) and there’s probably more updated information on the LISA antenna and the Large Hadron Collider which are mentioned in the book but were not yet built at the time of publication. Excellent ‘theory of everything’ book for everyone!

Awesome, thought provoking

This book was a fun trip. The beginning and ending are a little mathematics heavy, but I very much enjoyed the mind boggling concepts. It's definitely one you could read several times. I had a lot of fun thought provoking conversations thanks to this book.

Very intriguing, easy and enjoyable read.

The Secret of EXISTANCE is the ultimate question that has inundated humanity since the beginning, be it philosophers, scientists, mathematicians, theologians or the common individual trying to survive and questioning what is it all about? It's fascinating that regardless of how we approach this question; the Journey becomes more valuable than the elusive final answer as we discover more and more about our place in the Universe. This book brings the many pivotal scientific discoveries and theories in the long quest over the years and weave them into a possible interpretation of how and why the Universe happens to be the way it is and possible future events that may impact our existence. String Theory along with a few other possible theoretical explanations of the physical world introduces the concept of Multi-dimensions of existence as a by-product of their mathematical models and interpretations which become the focal point of this book's Parallel Worlds topic. Like many people I'm extremely intrigued by the possibilities of Parallel Universes, Multi-dimensions, and Hyperspace and most of all where did we come from and where are we going? It's a nice book, well written and with a bit of general knowledge about the quest for the Theory of Everything it's an easy and enjoyable read. It does not attempt provide a definite answer to the questions but rather shows a possible interpretations and possible answers. Only time will tell if this is a Scientific Book, or Science Fiction Book. Finally, the author either intentionally or non-intentionally digresses into the inevitable concept of whether there is a Purpose and Intelligences behind the existence of the Universe or is it pure chance and physics. I found the discussions very intriguing as I hope you will.

Enjoyable BUT...

Reading about the birth, evolution, & possible end of the universe has always been one of my favorite subjects. Except this book has (understandably - the author is a physicist!) some formulas & stuff I don't understand. Other than that, good reading.

An excellent explanation of status quo physics

In this book, Michio Kaku, a leading theoretical physicist, discusses the current state of the search for a unified theory to explain everything, from quantum physics to relativity and everything in between. In layman's terms, he discusses the history of string theory and M-Theory, the current form of string theory, and what it all means in terms of the possibilities of alternate universes, time travel, and the origin of the universe. Kaku discusses the possibilities of more than 3 spacial dimensions, as implied by the theory. Kaku goes on to discuss the ultimate fate of the universe: a continual expansion resulting in temperatures too cold to support life, or a crushing implosion resulting in temperatures too hot to support life. Kaku discusses the possibility that M-Theory may increase our understanding of the universe (or multiverse) enough to be able to travel into a different universe, or back in time, before our universe collapses. Kaku ends with a philosophical discussion on our place in the universe and what the point of it all is. If you have read Kaku's book "Hyperspace", some of this book will be review, as he includes some of the same concepts of extra dimensions in this book. Kaku explains the science in such a way that the layperson can understand it fairly well. He doesn't go into much mathematical detail; he only explains enough so that the reader understands what the theory means and doesn't get bogged down with all the details. This is what makes Kaku's writing great. His books, such as this one, are written for those who haven't studied physics in depth but who are interested in what is going on in the field of physics and the search to understand the universe. The bottom line: Kaku is a great resource for the latest developments in theoretical physics and our understanding of the universe.

Cosmology with a dash of string theory

Popularizer of science and professor of physics Michio Kaku returns with "Parallel Worlds," an expose of the recent history of cosmology and a little bit of string theory. Kaku does a remarkable job explaining what we know about the universe around us, from both an experimental and theoretical perspective. As Kaku is a string theorist himself, he does make attempts to bring that into the discussion- but here I think his explanations fall a little flat. I don't think string theory is really the focal point of the book though. Nevertheless, this book is easily approachable and digestible by a science-interested layman. Kaku's enthusiasm for the topic and science in general seeps through every page. This book was a page-turner for me. Among other topics, Kaku discusses the big bang, inflationary theory, parallel universes, quantum mechanics, string theory, and what is in store for us at the end of the universe. Books like this always make me reflect on how truly insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things. As old as the planet is, the universe is far older. As big as the planet is, the universe is far bigger. As dangerous as the planet is, ... you get the idea. This is an engaging and fascinating read, enthusiastically presented by a leading physicist. I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever stared up at the night sky and wondered about...well, everything.

Excellent book by any standard

There are many people who know a lot, but only few who are able to pass their knowledge to the others. Professor Kaku shares his knowledge (and fantasy) with the readers in the best possible way. It is hard me to believe that anybody will have even slightest problem with following His thoughts. I was studying Astronomy in the 60ties, and must confess that this one book includes more information about the universe than I had received during my study. Not every theory has to be taken seriously. The reader should keep in mind that some text is a hypothesis and not necessarily solid knowledge. It was funny to me that some, very similar ideas (like the multiverse), completely independently I have created in my head, only ... as a pure fantasy. Also, regarding the acceleration of the expansion of the universe, I have alternative, and perhaps more logical, but decisively simpler, explanation than the introduction of some weird dark energy. Again, I got my idea from a pure fantasy. No matter how much solid information about the true universe and how much fantasy is included, the book Parallel Worlds is the excellent book, easy to read and to understand. And, please, do not undermine the fantasy. Often, it is the source of the solid theories.

Huge scale, little detail

The book covers a huge amount of material in very little detail; a topic gets a page or two, then it's off to the next topic. I found some great one sentence summaries that pulled ideas from other books together for me, but there was little detail leading up to the sentence, and no detail leading on from there. I wanted to learn about string theory, but I found thousands of sorta related facts and claims about the universe that got wearying after 100 pages.

An Important Modern Day Physics Book

Michio Kaku is one of the most significant theoretical physicists of our day, and this is his signature work. Besides providing a basic history of astrophysics knowledge and concepts, Dr. Kaku discusses the possibility of parallel universes, multiple dimensions, and even time travel. Our universe may in fact be an offshoot of another universe, possibly from a (theoretical) white hole. Once regarded as science fiction, many of the concepts Dr. Kaku discusses in this book are increasingly becoming accepted by scientists as plausible facts. Most of this book will be easily understandable for the average lay person. However, much of the book is spent on string theory. If you don't have at least some education in college level physics, some of this may be difficult to understand (not to mention a little dry). That said, Dr. Kaku does a better job than most in explaining in. All in all, this is an important book explaining some of the most cutting edge theories and concepts in modern physics. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in astronomy or astrophysics.

Interesting content, well written, a little dry.

If you're interested in quantum theory, and multiple worlds ideas, this is a pretty informative and interesting read. Michio Kaku is clever and engaging to read, but I will admit that this book took me some long periods of 'picking up and putting down' to get through. The material is not simple, but it is presented in relateable ways for the most part. Good stuff.

A great journey into the parallel universes as predicted by the ...

A great journey into the parallel universes as predicted by the M-string physics theory. Are we alone?, Do we have parallel realities? What creates our choice?, Do all things exists independent of our observation?. Although it is a pop-science book, not extrictly a philosophy book, it brings several trascendental questions to our minds: What is the purpose of the universe?. As all Kaku's books, very pleasant to read it.

Parallel Worlds.....

Once again Michio Kaku explains the reality of the possibilities of parallel universes and alternate dimensions. He impresses the importance of finding a "Theory of Everything" and how both quantum mechanics and super string theory/m-theory are the key to our understanding the Universe, our part in it and how we advance to the next level of civilisation. This was a great book and gives many references to other books/authors that relate to the subject which I have already obtained for future reading. Dr Kaku's enthusiasm for his work always makes for an enjoyable experience when reading his works.

A Thought Provoking Read

First let me state that I am not a scientist and not even particularly well-versed in science. In college I majored in English Literature; therefore, I need books that explain scientific things to me as a professor would in a lower level course. Kaku does that - he takes it very slowly and explains history as well as the math so he doesn't lose people like me. He explains mind bending ideas that a beginner might ask about. Don't get me wrong, I certainly had to put a good bit of my brain into comprehending; but it was well worth it. My favorite portion of the book is Part III where Kaku talks about possible science fiction scenarios and merges them with science. Just be patient with the beginning of the book and before you know it, you will be so engrossed in reading it, it will haunt your thoughts while you are away from it. If you are interested in string theory, but don't know where to begin, please try this book, it's superb!

try a sample to see if its too difficult

Great book for someone with an interest in physics. I am an amateur and found it taxing at times, but overall I found it amazing -- and I guess I don't mean the book. I learned about so many exciting new theories. It helped me to understand concepts I had been exposed to in Scientific American. And, yes, it was catching. I can see hard-core physicists will thumb their nose at this, and true laymen will be confused, but those in the middle will find it just right.

Broadens Approaches Enormously Into Astrophysics Cosmology

This book is a science based review of alternate universes and their relevance to us. Michio Kaku moves into astrophysics and cosmology within this book; broadening approaches enormously. With simple explanations of strings, m-theory, and black holes there is also focus on the importance of electromagnetism. This book makes reference to the universe that we are not alone; and the possible travel connection to parallel universes. Michio Kaku makes an appealing presentation in science that connects to the everyday world. There is a list of contacts in the physicist community for other interesting reading.

A COMPLETE MIND-BENDER

It’s a good read and will get your imagination juices flowing. There’s some dude that’s me in a parallel universe right now writing the same review but backwards! The possibilities will make your teeth curl!

long, rambling

The book had a lot of great stuff, however it was like listening to someone who overstates things. It was as if he needed to explain everything. A condensed version would be great

Current cosmology for a lay audience

I think it was Niels Bohr, the great Danish physicist, who told his fellow scientists many years ago that they had an obligation to try to enlighten laymen about the latest findings of science. This was not long after Einstein's theories of relativity and the development of quantum mechanics had demonstrated that the world in which we live and thrive was much stranger than previously thought. The comfortable and intuitive cosmos, as described by Newtonian mechanics, had been superceded by a world view that seemed not only bizarre, but even incomprehensible. This new book by Michio Kaku is one of the latest efforts by leading-edge scientists to fulfill that felt need recognized by Bohr. Targeting the educated layman, Kaku addresses his audience in a manner that is both entertaining and non-intimidating. Instead of mathematical descriptions, he relies on everyday analogies to convey his meanings. He includes a good measure of the history behind the theories, spiced with anecdotes and humor. While tackling an inheritantly difficult subject matter, he has succeeded in making it about as accessible as it could possibly be for a lay audience. I emphasize that this is an up-to-date account. Just a few years ago, some physicists were merely speculating about the possibilities of multiple universes, parallel worlds, time travel, worm holes...things that sounded then more like science fiction than fact. Data only recently acquired by the WMAP satellite and the rapid development of string theory (and its latest incarnation, M-theory) have caused many of the best minds to not only entertain the possibility of such phenomena but, in many cases, consider them necessary corollaries to any credible Grand Unified Theory ( i.e., a "theory of everything.") According to Kaku, we're getting very close to such a theory. This is heady stuff, presented in a form that makes science fiction, the ramblings of mystics, and the wildest conjectures of amateur cosmologists seem dull by comparison. And it is offered to us by a man who is at the forefront of current physics, a leading theorist in string theory and, most notably, a man who is an expert in assuring that his speculations are not in conflict with known facts. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in what science knows today about the past history and nature of our cosmos and what the future may hold. It's an absolutely fascinating read!

we are not the center of the universe

we are not alone. we are passengers. there is the physical universe. and the spiritual universe of the mind.

Love it!! He is just brilliant!

He is simply brilliant! What else can I say! I know nothing about the subject! Yet I understood everything he is talking about! It’s like magic how he explains things! It is so very intellectually and spiritually stimulating! I am comparing science with spiritual teachings! It’s uncanny! Love love love it!

Brilliant!

An entertaining summary of the greatest discoveries of cosmology and physics, this book gives a compelling argument for the existence of multiple universes. It’s challenging not to believe in the multiverse after reading this well-written, philosophical account. Thank you for writing this!

Great read

Very interesting read. Opened my mind to possibilities I had never thought of before.

Fascinating

Michio Kaku is one of my favorite physicists, because he is able to explain complex theories in a way that the layman can understand. Though this book was written some years ago, most of it still applies today in the world of physics. The multiuniverse theory is very possible, even probable, according to string theory and M theory. Understanding this subject is important to the possibilities of our future survival.

Sparks the Imagination

Brilliant read for anyone who knows there is something more than just 'out there.' Comprehensive and easy to understand, people who enjoy space-time, imagination, quantum theory, Einstein, and cosmology will appreciate the perspective Michio Kaku brings to mind regarding the concepts of different theories of our existence. As a layperson in physics, but a lover of M-Theory, particles, waves, energy, the cosmos, and endless possibilities, I highly recommend this book to like-minds. I will be wearing my copy out passing it to friends.

Where we were & how we got there in 2005 Cosmology!

Michio Kaku wrote a great non-mathmatical synopsis of where the theory was in late 2005 on cosmology! I suggest this book for any person interested in cosmology! He does a great job of taking you thru the history and reasons for the logic that existed in the past and present. I especially like his short (1/2 page to 3 pages)concise discussion on each particular subject. The only issue I have with this book is the developments that are missing since 2005! This is a GREAT book! I hope that he creates a update! This is the best written science book that I have ever read!

Good Book written by a fabulous author.

Haven’t finished the book, but find it very, very readable. Besides, I love the author! He makes science sense.

Interesting

This book was informative. The book introduced past and present theories regarding quantum physics. It named some of the most influential people in science community and gave lots of examples. The author tried to give easy explanations for some very complex topics.

A very interesting work

I must say I have read many of Kaku's books and from my perspective they are very well written and in a style and prose that entertain and stimulate. His love for science is infectious and it leaves one with a feeling of awe and wonder for the Universe. A Universe that too many people take for granted. However, I must answer a rather poor review of this book by "Panabear" who stated the following: "I'm surprised to see such high ratings for this book, as I don't know anyone scientifically inclined that found this to be a good book". And who might that be panabear? , you and your brother? How pathetic and how wrong. Here is list of truly scientifically inclined individuals and organizations that do praise the book. They include: Brian Greene, Professor of Theoretical Particle Physics, Columbia University, writer of the: The Elegant Universe Paul Davies, Australian Centre for Astrobiology, Macquarie University , THE WINNER OF MULITPLE AWARDS FOR HIS SCIENTIFIC WRITINGS And finally one of most prodigious Scientific journals in America: The Scientific American. Which ALSO heaped praise on the book. It seems that panabear is a one star reviewer. Maybe panabear should stay at the zoo.

But overall a good book.

A bit hard to understand in places! But overall a good book.

michio kaku book

all his books are great

Inspiring

My 14-year old son loved this book because he is interested in science and the universe. It is erudite but accessible to us normal people - even teens.

Perceiving beyond our senses

Parallel Worlds is a stellar book - very accessible from an intellectual standpoint by those that are not very familiar or conversant with modern physics and cosmology. I loved the line "reality is not common-sense, because our common-sense is not reality". Another way to say is the old proverb - "a fish doesn't know it's wet". In order for us to perceive and understand the universe, we must trust in science and mathematics to let us conceptualize beyond what our senses let us intuitively understand.

Learned a lot

I enjoyed this book and learned a lot from it. Easy to read and understand. Doesn't go into the subject as deeply as Brian Greene's "Fabric of the Cosmos" but provides an excellent overview for laymen. Not sure where it should fall on the 4-5 star system but I'm erring on the side of positivity here.

Exiting and thought provoking.

The book takes you through the different theories of creation and leads to the realization of one's own purpose in life. Really exciting, I would recommend it to anyone who is exited about humanity's future.

MIND EXPANDING - WONDERFUL!

I have thoroughly enjoyed Parallel Worlds - understand, I am No physicist!! but Michio Kaku has written an intriguing, easy to understand (at least Most of it) narrative about the progress of string theory, M theory and parallel universes and how it all works within the laws of physics. It really makes you think about how small yet Significant we all are - I highly recommend this book.

Got it on audible and I’m also getting it on paperback!

Kaku is my all time favorite! I have all his books on paperback except for this one which I’m listening on audible. I wish it was his voice instead. String Theory, parallel universes, multiple dimensions oh my! This book is sure to keep you interested from sentence 1 as in all his books! Thank you Kaku for opening the doors of cosmic knowledge to layman such as me.

Parallel worlds

Professor Michio Kaku shares his vast knowledge of General Relativity, Quantum Mechanics and the emergence of String theory and subsequent M- theory. The possibility of multi-dimensional worlds and a grand designer of the universe. He presents his readers with cutting edge information from renowned Scientist( including Nobel laureates )and Institution from all around the world. it requires some knowledge or Physics and Mathematics. He does not use to much complex mathematical equations. A must read for students in physics.

Eloquent theoretical physicist.

Outstanding review and summary of current work.

Michiu Kaku is simply a great writer and visionary

Michiu Kaku is simply a great writer and visionary. I love all of his books. So I do recommend this book and every other book he has written.

Kookoo for Kaku

I received a signed copy!

Michio Kaku's Parallel Words

Dr. Kaku's presentation of the subject matter is well written for the average person to understand. I'm not a student but I love to look at scientific material that "expands" my thinking. Dr. Kaku's writing delivers in this respect. I have enjoyed Parallel Worlds and would look forward to buying more of his titles.

Easy read and wonderful topics.

Easy to understand and full of brain candy.

Interesting book

This is a very good summary of the state of physics in 2005. I did enjoy reading it but wish it was more recent.

This book is basically in three major sections: an ...

This book is basically in three major sections: an intriguing and highly readable exposition of the ideas relating to the title; a more complex (for me, anyway) explication of the physics and math processes used to explore the concepts; and a grand blend of cosmology and exhilaration that reads almost metaphysically. The only reason I can't give this work five stars is that it is several years old and not quite current in the research (i.e., the hypothetical medium that may separate multiple universes is referred to as "the bulk" in newer work, but is not so named here.) I also was left with a question: Kaku discusses the idea that multiple universes may have physical laws totally alien to our experience, but later speculates about how, perhaps, we could cross the chasm. Would it be prudent even to try entering another universe, not knowing what to expect? Aside from this minor point, I found Kaku's enthusiasm infectious and, as his TV appearances prove, his communicative ability is impressive. Popular science's worthy successor to Asimov, perhaps?

Michio never ceases to amaze!

Great book and very complex subject matter, but when you are reading anything from Michio you have to expect that. He's referenced many Nobel Prize winners here and has compiled a massive amount of data on the Universe and quantum physics and cosmology. This is a great read and will keep you entertained if the Universe is a subject you enjoy. If not, watch TV!

Rather strange for me to understand. Wee bit above ...

Rather strange for me to understand. Wee bit above my head I must admit. Only the highest minds can understand all this marvelous 'string-field theory' Even good-old SciFi Magazine said it can be 'downright boggling" at times. Alas for we others! Brittanica

What a great read

Michio Kaku has really hit this book out of the park. This was a very thought provoking and excellent read. I really love how Michio can take very complex and deep concepts and explain them in plain English to where anyone can understand them.

Five Stars

Excellent

Inspiring to read.

Like the author’s insightful and lucid explanations of the multiple universes.

Thanks to Dr. Kaku I Get Black Holes and String Theory

Well kind of. At least he's come the closest of explaining both to me. His enthusiasm comes through each page and his explanations are technical yet grasp-able without being condescending. For someone who grew up on Sagan, Kaku does a good job of continuing the tradition of popularizing science without deprecating it.

You can read and enjoy this book without a degree in Physics.

Written so a novice can read it. Very interesting.

Four Stars

Difficult to understand, but worth the read

Things that want to make you go hmmmm.

Great read

Great book on theory of physics

Great book on theory of physics. Easy to understand for the laymen. Kaku shares quite a few science fiction novelists over the years who used some of the theories in their stories. Must read for avid sci-fi readers.

Good stuff mate

my copy didnt have the same cover but perfect condition and awesome content :)

Exciting new world

Clear understandable and exciting!

Kaku vs. Hawkings. If you only can read one of them, make it Kaku

I know little about physics. The concepts of worm holes, black holes, space time and special & general relativity give me a headache. However, to a layman this book is so much more complete than Hawking's "The Grand Design". I really enjoy the 10% of the book's content that I can truly comprehend.

A must buy!

Great read!

Easy Read

Michio does an excellent job of explaining concepts in terms the average person can understand. You don't need to know the complicated mathematical equations referenced to understand the concepts which they prove. Thank you for making a subject ive always been curious of easy to understand.

sofar very good book.

still reading it , sofar very good book.

A Good Overview of Modern Theories

Overall a well written overview of current theories in physics. My one small complaint is the description near the end of an advanced civilization's attempts to escape a dying universe. The author seems to either deliberately ignore or be unaware of the predictions of the coming singularity and the migration of humans to software.

This is a MUST READ!

Mind boggling book. You don't want to be here a couple billion years from now. If you haven't read a physics book in twenty years, you need to read this book. Best book I have read in a couple decades!

Gift

It was a gift.

Great Book

This is one of my favorite books and so I decided to give a copy away in my book club gift exchange. Hope the recipient loves it as much as I do. I have 6 books by Michio Kaku and really enjoy they way he can make some very difficult science topics accessible for most readers.

This book was amazing!

I am definitely not knowledgeable at physics at all. But this book made it very readable and understandable. My mind was just blown everytime I opened the book. I definitely recommend it to everybody interested in this kind of stuff!

Good writting

Not yet finished

Hands down incredible book on String Theory.

Not as good as Michio Kaku's "Hyperspace", but I'm comparing legendary to life-changing.

mind blowing (so far...)

On chapter one only, 10 years after it was written, my mind's being blown each time i turn a page!! I'm all excited about quantum physics, all over again!!

Great Book

Great book he does a good job of describing the theory of having parallel universes. Well worth the read if you into different theorems and a touch of way out there kind of stuff.

Understandable for the layman.

Great book. I love the way he helps bridge the gap to make science interesting and accessible. Feynman's logical successor.

Five Stars

another fantastic book my Dr Kaku

Questions

This is a wonderful book that I believe anyone can enjoy. The speculation on the future and how we get there is a great device for explaining the advances in physics.

Five Stars

Great item! 10/10

Physic Explained.

Wanna learn about Newton laws of motion, where Einstein got his idea from and why Quantum theory is strange? This is the perfect introduction to all those subjects and more. Michio Kaku writes in a style and languages that everyone can enjoy and understand. I highly recommend this book to all that have an interest in the universe in which we live.

MultioVerse for the dummies!

Over the years, I've been a great fan of Dr. Who (British SciFi) and Star Trek. What is amazing to me and those who have since borrowed my book, is that the science is there. It's amazing. Michio is easy to read and understand...good read!

Four Stars

Another prize by a truly interesting man

Dr. Kaku stars again

Dr. Kaku is my hero. He presents complicated information in an easy to understand manner. He is a genius and I adore his enthusiasm. This is a great book

Unparalleled

Wish I could write more but my 22 wives in different parallel worlds are nagging the s*** out of me

A mind expanding look at existence

You can't explain anything unless you understand it yourself, and while Kaku admits that there's more to understand about the origins of the universe than anyone knows, he does a great job of positing the existence of multiple universes in different dimensions. I didn't understand the mathematics but Kaku convinced me with his logic. A must read for anyone who asks the world's most important question - why are we here?.

A+

I'm going to make the review simple. This is an excellent book. Unlike other scientists who attempt to write for the public, Kaku has the ability to communicate his ideas and his knowledge effectively. People with little understanding of the field of astrophysics will be able to educate themselves with this book. The information is well organized. The writing is clear. This is a worthwile read for anyone at any level.

A bit too technical

I hate to admit that I found this book difficult to understand, although I greatly admire the author.

I enjoyed the book

I enjoyed the book, although the presentation of the different topics is somewhat jumbled about, as if written by different authors.

Five Stars

The writing style is very charming. Michio Kaku is a gifted teacher.

one of the greatest cosmology books ever

A tremendously readable book, simultaneously complex yet understandable with or without an extensive grasp of advanced physics and mathematics. The author is a genius.

One of my favorite authors.

Michio Kaku can write in a way that makes very complicated things understandable. One of my favorite authors.

Very well done

It's some trick to make a book on abstract physics readable, but Michio Kaku has done it. I'll have to say that even so, it's a slow read for me, and yet a good one.

strings and other weird things

Always entertaining Kaku does a great job of making sense of a lot of weird stuff. The string theory is a little thick but it was a great read never the less. If black holes, string theory, the future of the universe and the possible futures for us interest you give it a read.

FUTURE OF HUMANITY

Speculations of a Scientist on what the future holds for humanity in the light of modern advances in physics. An interesting viewpoint.

Parallel Worlds

Wonderful and facinating - I love the 'magic' of physics, don't understand how it all works but Michi Kaku explains everything so well that even a novice like me can understand it.(well, most of it.) After you read this book you will never look at starts, space, planets, including earth without marvelilng at how they they were formed, you will take a look back at what happend billions of years ago, what is still happening today, and what will be happeing in the future ie: Time Travel? maybe!

talks about things/theories/ideas that are never explained..

covers a lot of topics, but very light on explanations.

Machio Kaku's "Parallel Worlds" is the best book I have read about cosmology for laymen(women)

Machio Kaku's "Parallel Worlds" is the best book I have read about cosmology for laymen(women). He touches on almost every facet of the subject and does it in an incredibly interesting way. For example, early in the book he describes his childhood feelings towards Hinduism, the faith of his father's, and then mentions his experiences in America learning about the stories of the Old Testament. From this early beginning he moves into the physical world from Galileo and Isaac Newton to Albert Einstein to Richard Feynman and other other theoretical physicists and cosmologists. He mentions and discusses the equipment used to measure the cosmic microwave background radiation, to measure gravity waves and onto the Large Hadron Collider and the methods for looking deep into space. There is more good stuff in this book than it is possible for me to mention. If you have an interest in science and/or philosophy you will find this a most amazing read.

Science

Still unparalleled in the sciences. I will have read everything Mr. Kaku has written and look forward to more.

Good summary and intro

Clear style, understandable language and step by step explanations. It is possible to learn something and even get inspired and awed by this crazy magnificent universe we all live in.

I Miss Carl Sagan So Much!

The new physics writers make physics understandable to lay people such as myself. I like Kaku, Tyson and Greene. They will take the baton from Hawking. Physics Lite made palatable for people who like astrophysics, but are not astrophysicists.

Five Stars

Very clear explanation of mind blowing physiscs

A Brilliant Look at Cosmology

Having seen Michio Kaku on various science shows, I was very much looking forward to my first chance at reading one of his books. I was not let down! I may have to check out his other work.

Fantastic and full of meaning. The book is easy to understand for those who are new to physics, also some good points for the ones a bit further along. The ending of the book is rich and encouraging.

Buy it

Love it.

Must have

I love this book. This book is very easy to read and enjoyable as well, filled with vast information. Can't wait to read his other books.

Engaging and inspiring

After not following physics for 30 years in any detail , I wanted to read a modern book that would catch me up on the more current theoretical physics ideas and theories. This was a good overview. It didn't contain much detail on the theories, only generalized explanations but that was good for my purpose . Kaku is a smart scientist but good writer.

Five Stars

We bought this for our son and he liked it.

Rating for Parallel Worlds

I haven't read through the entire book yet - I've only gone through and read parts here and there, enough to know I will really enjoy reading this book. I always see this author on television shows regarding the same and simalar subject matters and became interested enough in his commentaries to purchase this book. I have no scientific background and this book seems easy enough to read and comprehend, and that was a big plus in my opinion! Also, delivery was very prompt and I am very satisfied with this purchase!

Very interesting read

I found Michio Kaku's "Parallel Worlds" to be the best book that I have so far read on the subject of M-Theory/String Theory. The information is presented in an unusually readable format, and Kaku's writing style is enjoyable. This book also touches on more subjects related to the main theme than other books on the subject have, and seems to cover a broader range of ideas/possibilities/theories than some of the other books i am familiar with. If you're interested in theoretical cosmology, I think this is a great read.

My View to the Cosmos

I fell in love with Dr. Michio Kaku when I watched his live interview on CSPAN2 on October 3rd of this year. I knew that I had to read all of his books and I began with "PARALLEL WORLDS: A Journey Through Creation, Higher Dimensions and the Future of the Cosmos". It has been sheer joy for me to read this book and I am looking forward to his other works with great anticipation.

Fascinating!

Michio Kaku has a gift of the ability to explain complex matters in understandable language. I would highly recommend this.

I just love physics but I'm a layman on the subject

I just love physics but I'm a layman on the subject. This book puts lot's of a complex subject into a simple perspective. Also, it's a recent work: something I praise due to the recent developments on the subject of cosmology and advanced physics.

Five Stars

Easy reading, real fun to read

Very interesting and thought provoking book.

Michio Kaku has a way of delving into the unknown and unknowable that can blow you away. If you are into cosmology and the big bang, this is a must read.

love!!!

What a great read. I'm actually a little depressed I'm finished with it. Michio Kaku shows you how the impossible is possible. He makes you believe in magic.

Great book

My son loves this book and has been reading it since I gave it to him. Michio Kaku is wonderful.

Disappointing.

A very tedious read. I became tired and frustrated that most of the book seems to be recapping fairly well known information and seeking answers to questions not asked. I had hoped to learn about parallel worlds but the subject did not seem to get addressed. In fairness, I was so bored after the first 70 percent that I may have skimmed over the Parallel Worlds, but I doubt it.

Four Stars

Good read

Would be better with expanded treatment

The book is well written but I find that some of the more technical explanations are a bit too short and cryptic.

A pleasure to read

Serious, scientific, up-to-date, well-written, well-priced, easy-to-read, humorous at times, great writing style for a scientist. Worthy of your time, bookshelf space and money. Kaku digs in very deep without getting tiring or confusing. Highly highly recommended.

Another great book from Michio Kaku

It is great book and good for student. I bought it for my family member but I could stop reading it after received the book.

Another winner

I have been a fan of Dr. Kaku for quite some time. He has a great ability to educate without speaking over the heads of those who are not his peers in the world of theoretical physics. Thank you Dr Kaku for yet another great read.

Awesome

Excellent Reading For Any Technical Skillset

Michio has done an excellent job at describing the current understanding of the Universe, based on the latest proven theories. He has the ability to reach out to all skill levels. This is simply the best book I have ever read regarding the Universe. Thanks to my good friend and colleague, Neal Bailey, for recommending this book.

Parallel Worlds one of the greatest books ever

Michio's Parallel Worlds is a fascinating book. It explains you with simple words how the cosmos began and how all these incredible things, such as Parallel universes, multiverse and black holes are. I suggest it without thinking to buy it, if you love science and physics too!

Awesome! Very cool stuff and a great read!

Some criticism here.

Michio Kaku is the marketer most popular coming out from his colleagues scientists. He is a good communicator with the masses. I don't say he is an excellent because here and the he shows some personal limitations, like saying that the government had to let internet go and it went to the masses and became a ''women's" stuff for communication. His expression carried a little disdain while trying to be funny. Well, I am not feminist because I am not idealistic. I love reality and he shows what reality we are in. Period. Now, to be this ignorant and make a statement that internet is just women's stuff...What he does mean? And the docs that we use to send everywhere, even to other countries doing business without having to transport your body everywhere. Is not only a thing for families to grandeur their puppies puppy or little ones and the rest. We make meetings, International ones. And I won't give him my time to thing right quick about other functional functions. I could see that Mr. Kaku would use internet for other ends for science, locking it out from the masses, isn't Mr.? But you are making big bucks and fame through it. Oh, and the joke comparing his value with the pop Madonna to make everyone laugh like they do, is disgusting. I am not fan, but I don't put anyone down in a vast public and in a worldly speech. Here he gets 3 stars, because this book can't be more. Our products have our quality even if it doesn't look like.

Physics made fun.

Technical, but very readable.

Great reading

I always enjoy listening & reading Mr. Kaku's insights. This book is well organized into introducing the reader to past physics and then brings the reader into the more up to date Theories of today. I bought it for a teen who wants to study Theoretical Physics to help encourage him in his future plans in life.

For the College Educated

I am still reading it, it is more for college students than for me; It is definitely not for entertainment. But, it is interesting. I am learning physics from Lisa, who's book clears up a lot in Michio's book.

Michio kaku

This is one of the best book of all "space and time". Once you start to read it you can't stop.

Very well written, Very intresting.

I am physics student and found this book very interesting. Kaku assumes that you have some prior elementary knowledge of physics and mathematics. It is not like the recent book of Brian Green where he explains many times the details which makes the reading unpleasant and break the tempo e.g. Kaku on symmetry just assume that the reader must have heard of symmetry groups like SU2 and SU3 and on wave functions and probability amplitudes he assumes that reader have some kind of prior knowledge. He doesn't go technical though so you won't find any equation and unnecessary details. It is one of those books which is easy to follow and fun to read. It makes the reader to think about all that theory and equations in QM. I love the way he told about the Feynman path integration. No body told us that before. Lots of equations in physics and mathematics are just another equation but in this book Kaku put meaning to lot of them which not many people can do successfully. I found this book much better than the Brian Green's Fabric of Cosmos. It is just like when you compare QM text by Shanker and Sakurai. This is much like Sakurai, concise and interesting and easy to read as Griffiths.

Mind-bending concepts, rendered in great simplicity...

I'm a great fan of Michio Kaku, principally because of his superb talent for describing incredibly complex ideas (e.g. the 11 dimensional universe) in terms that lay people can grasp. His mastery of metaphor and analogy makes the most abstract and arcane ideas accessible to all of us.

Five Stars

Good guide to imagine the unimaginable.

Astrophysics fans will love this!

This is great for the astrophysicist-inclined. My grandson plans to major in that field, and he gave this high ratings!
