Our Paleo ancestors were healthier and heartier than we realized!
The theme of this intriguing cookbook is to learn about the foods eaten by of our hunting and gathering cavemen and cavewomen ancestors, while we discover the healthy and disease fighting benefits of their diet. First of all, this is an eating style that you can ease into without stressful, immediate must do changes. Anyone would like that. Being a bit of a carnivore myself, I was instantly drawn to an appetizing menu of healthy fed beef or even wild caught salmon garnished with organic vegetables and fruits. What's not to like? In fact, you can even test drive this diet for 30 days to see if it's the diet for you. You determine what your goals are. For instance, why are you considering this diet? Is it athletic performance, weight loss, or simply achieving good health from this diet. The beauty of this diet is that you decide, and take as much time as you need. No one is pushing you to make instant progress. But then the Paleo for Beginners:the guide to getting started strikes gold! I discovered that it has an 80-20 rule that gives us a mulligan, some room for error. Again, there's no stress if we follow the diet 80% of the time, because that leaves us 20% of free time to eat what we want. I love that philosophy. I also appreciated the valuable medical information proven to be associated with todays unhealthy diets. The New England Journal of Medicine has pinpointed 55 diseases and conditions which are directly caused or made worse by eating gluten. "I know, my first thought was a warm, buttered homemade dinner roll." On this diet you can have plenty of treats. Most developed countries have a sweet tooth and cancer cells are proven to feed on sugar. On the planned Paleo diet, you can starve out this disease by eliminating sugar and processed food for starters, along with bad carbohydrates. The Paleo diet includes: meats, fish, seafood, eggs, vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, nuts, tubers (potato's, etc,) and seeds. These proven ingredients for good health may very well defend you against many gluten promoted diseases. In this four-part cookbook you will learn why you need to eat healthier, shop healthier and stock your kitchen with the proper utensils so that you can begin enjoying the Paleo lifestyle. A 10-step process with shopping list included, as well as a laid back 30 day meal plan and 150 outstandingly healthy recipes. Day 1: Almond pancakes for breakfast, mushroom soup for lunch and baked salmon with roasted beets and garnished with greens. Don't forget the lime cookies for desert! Paleo for Beginners: it's easy, natural and builds good health.
A friendly, helpful introduction to Paleo!
Reading about the basics of the Paleo diet was very enlightening, especially from a guidebook that doesn’t take a pious approach to teaching us how to eat. And that’s what Paleo for Beginners does perfectly: it shows someone completely new to the Paleo lifestyle (or someone, like me, who is a little familiar with it through friends/articles) how to integrate Paleo into your life without going crazy: "You can be enthusiastic about eating and feeling healthier without being self-righteous about it.” - well said! Paleo has restrictions, but this book understands that many people seeking to eat healthy may not be able to do EVERYTHING perfectly. I really enjoyed reading about all the different ways to incorporate Paleo into my life, from an 80/20 approach, to adjusting the diet for pregnant women, vegetarians, or people with diseases such as diabetes, cancer, or kidney disease. The book is friendly and not overly technical. But it’s not so basic that it’s boring: Chapters 10 and 11, which discuss Paleo for athletes and weight loss, go into more specific detail and talk about the nutritional science behind the diet. THAT said, there are scientific and anthropological claims that are basic, and could be debated. But like ANY diet/lifestyle book, those claims could be argued from both sides of the debate. In my opnion, the claims are, like the rest of the book, not self-righteous, and meant to guide rather than judge. The recipes are just ridiculous: I was drooling over the sweet potato quiche and the banana french toast (breakfast), crabmeat stuffed mushrooms (snacks, though i’d totally eat these for dinner), and the Moroccan chicken (dinner). Many of the recipes are familiar to me, but with very reasonable adjustments; using coconut flour instead of wheat-based flour, for example. And I LOVE coconut! So that’s easy…. I think this book is best suited for people, like me, who don’t like a heavy-handed approach to diet and nutrition. I’d once been told by a nutritionist that the donut I had eaten earlier that week - the ONLY donut I had eaten in over a month - was bad for me (well, duh). Paleo for Beginners is more realistic: "Do your best and live your life with joy, not as if you are in culinary prison."
Good reading if curious about the Paleo lifestyle!
As a long-time pescetarian, I have been curious about the Paleo diet, especially since it seems to be THE healthy diet right now. This book is what it claims to be - Paleo for beginners. It is set up in four parts which makes it easy to read from front to back or jump around a bit. The first part explains the basics of Paleo - what it is, what to avoid and common issues surrounding not following a Paleo diet. Part two explains how to make the transition to Paleo while part three explains different types of paleo diets. Part four consists of pages and pages of recipes, that made me hungry while perusing them! I really liked that the authors presented the information in a realistic way - at one point, it states that you should be a mindful eater, "but try not to get lost in the details". I appreciate that when starting a new diet, because it takes me awhile to assimilate my tastes. My critique of the book is largely based on the diet plan itself - it is a very expensive lifestyle to lead! Many of recipes require a food processor and you are encouraged to eat all organic and meat that is grass-fed or pasture-raised. There is one other "fact" that stuck out to me and bothered me a bit - although the authors suggested frozen, organic veggies, they also claim they might lose a little nutritional value. I have never heard that before and I'm fairly educated in nutrition. Overall, this is a great book to start with if you are contemplating a Paleo lifestyle - I'm not sure I'm making the switch yet, but I'll put it on the backburner.

Guide to eating healthy the way our ancestors did
After reading this book, I got the impression of how poorly we treat something so essential to our function and existence: eating. Most cultures view the very act of eating as something sacred. As modern culture grows and work slowly begins to engulf our lives, there is less and less time to shop for the correct food, prepare it, and eat it properly with satisfaction and enjoyment. In response, we begin to eat fast food, processed food in cans or Styrofoam cups made in one minute, and “nutrient bars” full of refined sugars. In short, food becomes an afterthought. It becomes something to get out of the way. After time, the food we eat reflects on our health and we see the rise of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular problems, etc. With that being said, The Paleo Diet for Beginners is a concise guide to eating the natural “caveman” diet. Based on the assertion that human beings in the Pre-Modern era were healthier, stronger, and more vigorous due to their natural diets, the Paleo diet aims to correct a person’s diet by eliminating the refined sugars, carcinogens found in processed foods, and grain deficient found in our modern diet. The aim of the book is simple: provide historical and scientific evidence to persuade a change in diet, establish a step-by-step lifestyle to achieve a stable diet, and provide a large variety of natural tasteful recipes to keep a person eating the diet. The book is very insightful in bringing to light the important role of grains, exercise, fish, fruits, and vegetables in body and brain function and how modern foods lack in all these essential nutrients because of the demand of cheaper mass produce and poor lifestyles.
It's a cave mans life!
imagine your self living a happy life of a caveman, or woman in the paleolithic age. your life mainly consists of gathering, preparing and cooking food. its hard work, it takes planning,(remember "Naked and Afraid"?) it may be exhausting. that's not so far off from the modern day version of "paleo" dieting. while this cookbook will provide you with a plethora of healthy, delicious recipes, it will literally make you work for it. to be a true "paleo" eater, you have to use first rate ingredients, as close to mother earth as possible, all organic, grass fed, free range, wild caught and fresh of a tree food is sure to make a dent in your wallet. it is worth the effort, though, if you can afford the hunting and gathering of the right ingredients. this diet is all inclusive, with several chapters specifically targeting those with food allergies, athletes and people with special dietary needs. this part of the book reminds me of Mayo Clinic's Health Encyclopedia, and can make you never want to eat again. But be brave, dear caveman, there is silver lining to this informational cloud, it has loads of information on recipe modification and even a healthy approach to feeding your family "paleo" while avoiding becoming a "food nazi". dieter's ethics are rarely mentioned in other cookbooks, so read carefully :) if you are a breakfast person, fear not - this cookbooks is full of amazingly creative "granola", "muffin", and even "pancake" recipes, which are full of flavor and are relatively easy to make. there are delicious, warm soups, and beautiful deserts, great for any party. however, the greatest achievement are the main course meals, which are basically, home made restaurant style dishes, presentation and all... when healthy meat is beautifully garnished with an array of vegetables, seeds, and sauces, color and texture literally "pop" out of the plate. my suggestion is using this cookbook to try out several recipes at home, rather than religiously following the "paleo" lifestyle.
An awesome read !
This book is about eating what our ancestors ate long ago in order to improve our health. The author describes the reality of the difficulties you'll encounter according to your own personalized eating habits. His honesty is refreshing. He recommends only adhering to the diet 80% of the time, taking a lot of pressure off of the reader, and making the diet seem more do-able. I liked his ideas about educating children in nutrition and not micro-managing their food choices. Alterations and tips are given to help people with chronic health conditions such as diabetes adapt to the diet. Being a vegan I was disappointed with the limited choices for protein options and the restriction on a few carbohydrates. However, the author makes so much sense that I am thinking of incorporating fish into my diet in the future. 150 recipes and a 30 day meal plan are given. For people like me, living in a house of big eaters on a limited budget this diet is a bit pricey, but possible. Also the book recommends that you modify your lifestyle to improve your health. Suggestions on how to reduce stress, getting quality sleep, exercising etc. are incorporated in this lifestyle approach. This is not just a diet cookbook. Much information is given on the cause and effect that food has on our health. It certainly gave me a new way of looking at our current American diet.
Back to the basics with diet
In my efforts to change my diet and habits, I took a chance with this purchase. One of the best chances that I have ever made in getting my life changing eating habits together. This book is full of delicious, healthy, 'clean' recipes. Not to mention, even though I haven't completed the entire 30 day meal plan I have tried a week straight and jumped between day plans. I have never felt so full of energy and make of the recipes my kids even loved. One focus that I enjoyed reading and even pay very close attention to is the danger of gluten. At first it seemed like a new fad to say, 'I'm gluten free'. But now I understand the logic behind it how the protein and grains effect our body. Trust me, it is worth doing your research on, especially those of us looking to raise healthy families. Overall, I really like the knowledge provided in this book. They refer to it as caveman but I'm not sure that's the best term. Cavemen had no concrete knowledge of why their diets worked. But now we do have research and its proven to work.
The Caveman's Diet
Founded on the premise of our ancestors and their healthier diets, the Paleo diet mimics the “caveman’s” dietary habits. Using modern equivalents, this diet is based on the theory that the human body has not yet adapted to grain-based nourishment. Grains contain gluten which leads to a variety of diseases. The idea of this diet is to eliminate all processed foods, grains, processed sugars, oils and dairy products from your diet. Foods on the diet include: meats, fish, seafood; eggs and veggies; fruits; healthy fats; nuts and seeds. Ideas on how to transform your kitchen and pantry; use of tools and equipment to enhance your recipes; as well as maintaining your diet at work, home and eating out are included. Detailed meal plans guide you through a gradual transition. “Ten Steps” guide you through the switch to this diet and make it successful along with a questionnaire to help you analyze and decide your relationship with food. By seeking a reverse evolution diet standard, you can choose to pursue a diet that aids in better nutrition and reduces risk of diseases current plaguing our modern society. This book is a detailed guide to achieving your Paleolithic diet.
Good Book if your End Goal is to Be Healthy!
Paleo for Beginners: The Guide To Get Started by Sonoma Press is an eye opener and excellent for anyone that wants to mimic how our ancestors ate during the caveman days by eliminating processed foods, sugars, dairy and legumes. The book goes in great depth about the dangers of gluten, and foods that have been altered and filled with pesticides and herbicides.. While somewhat scary to read about its affects on our health; it’s empowering to know. Reading the book convinced me that its time to take the food I eat much more seriously, if I want to be healthy during this modern age.. The Paleo for Beginners offers a 30 day plan with easy recipes such as flank steak with caramelized onions and sweet potato quiche…there is actually over 150 recipes, so no need for guessing what to eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The book is comprehensive. There is a chapter for people with special needs, such as pregnancy or vegetarian, and chapters for athletes and anyone that wants to lose weight. If you or a family member is suffering from any of the “affluence” diseases such as depression, autism, or any of the autoimmune diseases, I encourage you to read the Paleo For Beginners: The Guide To Get Started by Sonoma Press.

Not just another diet book
Not to be dissuaded by the title, this book is not simply a "diet" book. It offers an all-inclusive look at the paleo diet, and provides really good, sometimes surprising information about this way of life that is sometimes referred to as the "caveman diet." This book tells you exactly what to eat to follow paleo guidelines, and how exactly following such eating habits is so much better for you than what the average American is consuming. This book didn't scare me off from eating some of my favorite treats, but it made me aware of how important it is to think critically about what we're putting into our bodies, and how it's so easy to live a better more comfortable life by giving our bodies what they actually crave and designed for. It explains just how our body's are designed to eat certain foods, and what ill can befall us due to the highly processed and refined foods we are used to. Interspersed throughout are well-researched facts and figures lauding this diet and it's healthful reasonings and outcomes. It provides more information than I was expecting about the link between diets high processed food and refined sugar (basically, not "paleo") and avoidable "diseases of affluence." A great read!

A 30 day journey for a healthier beginning
It is an interesting book that provides a step-by-step 30 day meal plan for people who are going through illnesses such as diabetics, obesity and etc. The book it self contains a lot of informative procedures on how to change your daily routine to a much healthy lifestyle whether you could be in school, work and at home. It is a big help for us to know about what foods to avoid and what are the foods we must eat. This book also contains tips on how to change our ways and how to engage into Paleo. There are countless of ways that we already know on how to loss weight but this book not just only state most of it but thoroughly explains it in a sense that we are relating into it. On the other hand, if you are a parent you could pick up some strategy on how to control your child' s health and help them fit in socially.
This book sets you up for failure
I'm the lone descender on this book. It is the only one star rating. I don't even know where to begin. I bought the book because my husband found it for me, and it was only $2.99. Even at that cheap price if I could get my money back I would. Face it none of us goes in a diet like this without wanting the bonus of losing weight too. I am on the paleo diet because my doctor tried it and went down two dress sizes in 30 days. She led me to whole30.com which is a better start than this book. On my first ten days following the Whole30 plan I have lost 10 pounds. I can expertly say if you use these recipes you will nit get the same results. And you will be eating food that tastes awful because it loaded with vegan products. The recipes in this book will set you up for failure. They are chock full of ingredients like vegan cheese, vegan yogurt, and the worse - almond flour. These recipes my work well for maintenance and long term diet (provided you don't make almond flour an ingredient in every meal). If you are a beginner you want to eat nuts in moderation, of hardly at all. (Whole30.com states nuts as a food choice, but I disagree with that choice). In my research I found the blog maintained by one of the founding scientists of the paleo diet. (Sorry, I cannot remember his name.) He states nuts should be treated as a garnish and then only every so often. So why would you have this ingredient so heavily used in a book for a beginner. This book is one of the examples why there are people who experience failure and then quit. The recipes rely too much on ingredients that will not help you lose weight, get you used to eating true paleo, and set you up for disastrous results from the start. There are far better recipes on the internet for free. Save your $3.00 for something better, like some Eggland eggs or vegetables. Anything else than this book.
VERY ENLIGHTENING
For anyone considering switching to a gluten-free diet, this book is loaded with insightful information that made even me think twice about my current gluten-laden diet. The book’s selling point, for me, was more about the history behind the Paleo diet and why it serves such an important purpose in today’s society. It’s not just about another option for weight loss. Gluten, which the diet prohibits, is the cause of not only celiac’s disease but is also linked to dozens of other ailments and deadly diseases that many aren’t aware of. I was shocked to read about the ways gluten can be harmful. Midway through, there are tips on what to buy, how to stay consistent on the Paleo diet outside the home, a 30-day meal plan, and helpful success tips like going easy on yourself during the diet change, and rallying a support system. I also appreciated the inclusion of 150 recipes and the glossary.
Excellent way to start Paleo lifestyle
If you are interested in a simple guide to a Paleo disease free lifestyle for better health and better weight control, read this book. Strangely enough, it starts with what a caveman would eat. You will learn the underlying principles behind the lifestyle, the science of how it works, how to get started by stocking your kitchen and what to do when you are at a restaurant. You do not need to follow a food chart and count calories. Learn all about Gluten intolerance, the disease of affluence and how to follow a few simple rules of what groups of foods to eat and what groups of foods to avoid. The groups are logical and easy to remember. The book lets you know how to ease into the plan for the first 30 days and how to continue after. If you are into recipes, there are plenty from which to choose.
Simple, satisfying
I began reading this book as a complete uninitiate to the Paleo Diet before quickly being corrected that you embrace what a Paleolithic caveman/woman would eat - grains, meats, veg, fruits, and nuts - instead of foods that are of the standard American diet (anything processed or with added sugars, for example). Each part of the book is geared to inform you, integrate Paleo foods into your life (at home, in a restaurant), engineering a Paleo Diet just for you, and a veritable landslide (pun intended) of Paleo recipes. Parts 2 & 4 informed me about exciting ingredients to use and delicious alternate ways to make a bowl of Paleo-friendly oatmeal, sweet/spiced quick breads made with coconut flour, multicultural main entrees, plus smoothies and freezer treats.
Informative and Delicious
This book has transformed my family’s way of life regarding our eating habits. Both my wife and I have high cholesterol and we have been looking for an easy way to approach our daily eating habits. The simplified 1+1-1 eating plan is super easy. The introductory parts of the cookbook boil down cholesterol and its effects on our health so that anyone can understand it. The recipes are simple, easy to follow and are wonderfully good. I really feel that nothing much has changed. We enjoy delicious meals, but now they’re altogether good for us. I still wish that any good cookbook would include photos of their dishes but it’s not a deal breaker. Baked Salmon with Roasted Beets and Greens has become one of my family’s favorite meals. And for dessert—you GOTTA try the Decadent Chocolate Mousse. It’s to die for!
Diets Don't Work!
Haven't you heard the saying..."Diets don't work". From my own personal experience and that of many other people I know, it's true! However, Paleo for Beginners isn't just another diet cookbook. If you are looking for a healthier, more natural way of eating, then this is the book for you. It’s packed with everything you need to know to make that shift we all need when we are trying to change our eating habits. It gives real insight about the foods you eat now and not only what they are, but why they are harmful to you. It also gives you a 10-step plan for success so you can prepare yourself, your kitchen and even your family to make the change to eating better. This book is designed to help anyone. It addresses special dietary needs, the needs of athletes, as well as, the need to lose weight .In addition to all the helpful information, it is a cookbook. With so many delicious recipes that have step-by-step instructions, for meals, snacks and desserts. It helps with menu planning, there is a shopping list and explains the nutritional values of this healthy program. The Paleo or “Caveman Diet”, has all the ingredients you will need to live a more natural and healthier way of life.
Paleo for Beginners a Powerful Start
Paleo For Beginners (Sonoma Press) is an extremely easy to read primer for people interested in adopting a highly nutritious way of eating that can radically improve health and handle a wide range of modern ailments. It is based on the premise that Man has not yet evolved a digestive system that can tolerate grains (particularly the gluten protein) and is best served by sticking to the Paleolithic diet of his caveman ancestors. The book is logically laid out and the terminology simple and well-defined. It starts by presenting a long list of symptoms for gluten intolerance and the diseases that it has bred in modern society. It then offers an abundance of mostly unprocessed food choices to solve the dilemma to reverse this trend, including healthy spices to liven things up and 30 days of a wide variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert recipes. The book ends with helpful suggestions on a variety of topics such as how to stock one's kitchen, how to keep children on Paleo, advice for athletes, for loosing weight, for pregnant women, etc.
Logical argument for consuming natural foods
The premise of the Paleo diet is that our current health epidemic isn’t just about food - history has changed the way we eat due to lifestyle and environmental factors, causing us to grow away from the diet our bodies were meant to consume to the processed food of today. The Paleo diet strives to mimic the diet of our caveman ancestors who consumed natural foods from the earth such as meat, fish, seafood, eggs, vegetables, fruit, and more. The book offers logical explanations for the dangers of many people’s current diet as well as tips for how to eat according to Paleo standards. The diet does not try to restrict, it tries to simplify our diet back to the basics and helps by providing advice on how to maintain the diet outside of your own house and includes 30 days of meal plans to help you ease into it.
All You Need to Go Paleo
Paleo for Beginners is the ultimate resource if you've been thinking about going paleo - also known as the "caveman diet." This comprehensive guide explores the health reasons for going paleo as well as common mistakes that beginners make, such as eating too much fruit or nuts. Whatever your reason for trying this diet, cutting out wheat, grains, sugars, and legumes is not easy, but this book suggests that you follow the 80/20 rule so that you eat paleo the majority of the time. This makes the diet seem realistic and much less intimidating. There are also sections specifically designated for athletes, for pregnant women, and for weight loss. And of course - the best part is the recipe section, which includes a list of important nutrients and where to get them in specific paleo-friendly foods.
I love it
This is for sure a guide that is highly educational for anyone who is interested in eating healthier. This book made me feel like I could create plan to eat healthy; and get full off of what I'm eating everyday. I love the food choices; and of course what made me buy this book was the pictures. My favorite picture was the salmon and salad; which I actually decided to make because the picture looked so good; there was salmon and salad. I decided to make the whole thing except with the salad I chose to add lite ranch dressing; I can't do salad without some type of dressing. Bottom line: I love this book and it helped me to create a habitual healthy eating lifestyle that inspired me to create healthy recipes of my own so thumbs up..
Finally, a diet that makes sense and is simple!
I had heard of the title "Paleo for Beginners" but didn't really know much about it other than that. I am a 46-year-old man and not exactly a gourmet chef, but living on quick, processed foods isn't working for me. I am really enjoying the easy meal plans and am pleasantly surprised how full I feel. The concept of this book makes perfect sense about what and how to eat, having energy, and not feeling hungry all day while managing my weight. This book has simplified eating for me in a way that not only makes sense, but also has me feeling good. This book not only explains how to eat smart, but why eating these particular types of foods are more appropriate for the human body. I can't recommend it enough.
DIET LOOKS GOOD, BUT FACTS ARE MORE LIKE OLD WIVES TALES
My opinion is as follows: According to the Paleo For Beginners diet book, our ancestor's from 2.5 million plus years ago,ate healthier than the current Homo Sapiens. Also according to the Paleo Diet, we as a whole, are (A fat Society). Actually malnourished due to the lack of nutrients in our food. Also stated in the book, we should not eat grain or wheat products. This is due to the fact, that people have not yet adapted genetically to the gluten in wheat. It is difficult to believe that over 2.5 plus million years is not long enough to adapt genetically to anything. According to the author, legumes, for many reasons are a no, no. (not part of the Paleo Diet). But according to (Whole Health Source "Nutrition and Health Science"), beans and lentils, which are both legumes were a definite part of the everyday diet of hunters, gatherer's and archaic humans of the Paleolithic Age. Life expectances in the Paleolithic age was 35.4 years for men and 30 years for women. The current world life expectancy average is 67.2 years. Draw your own conclusion.
A Complete Change in eating
The Paleo Diet Book The first thing is we have to define Paleo diet. The Paleo diet is short for Paleolithic, a time in human history when man was first on the earth. In the early days of man, there were no refined sugars and processed foods. The Paleolithic (or Paleo) for short, is an attempt to use early man's natural foods in today's world. This would seem easy enough to do, however, almost all the foods in today's world are refined or processed or genetically altered so that they are definitely not what man found to eat on this Earth when he first arrived. The Paleo Diet Book explains the history of the diet and the approach to using the diet and many recipes for meals, snacks, desserts and more.
A Diet for the Modern Caveman
I thoroughly enjoyed PALEO FOR BEGINNERS: THE GUIDE TO GETTING STARTED. I always enjoy a good book on nutrition, but this refreshing book was one of the best. Paleo is a diet founded on the principle that humans should eat only what our caveman ancestors could get their hands on. This book is a very practical "how to get it done today" manual. The text is concise and the publisher knew it was writing to real people living in the real world. So if you are looking to bail out of the world of processed food so common in the standard american diet and need some help with your food choices and kitchen skills, this book is an awesome place to start. Happy reading and happy eating.
I have finally found something that works
I was very skeptical before I read this book, I cannot lie. I have heard of so many different meals plans that were meant to be effective in changing your body for the better. But this book made me a believer. Grain based nourishment is a healthy diet that we as humans have not adapted to. I learned that I am sluggish and fatigue because of my over intake of processed foods in my diets. This book has really helped me change my diet plan and become healthier from the inside out. Fruits, vegetables, and protein filled meats are what the book describes as a healthy meal. Our bodies will be more responsive and thus healthier. Because of this book I have changed and I am not eating the healthiest, freshest, most nutrient packed foods available to me. I appreciate the author for educating me on this simplistic diet plan. Processed food and high levels of sugars have been eliminated from my diet.
Give this a try!
So happy to have found this book since I have read others on the Paleo Diet that weren’t even close to the clarity and informative nature of this one! This book is so enlightening on what the Paleo diet is and explains how beneficial it can be and why, to the user. I have not heard great things in the past about this diet but with the information included in this book I would definitely give it a try! It explains how different diseases are started and can be helped by following this diet from cancer and diabetes to autoimmune disease including celiac and gluten sensitivities, explaining just how cereal based diets started the whole gluten-free revolution. They go on to explain how the Paleo diet can be a good strategy for overall good health also telling you why once more and exactly what you can and cant eat. It includes meal plans and great recipes as well. A very easy read and great book!
Good introduction to Paleo
This book provides a basic introduction to the Paleo diet, without overwhelming the reader. While I was familiar with the concepts of the diet before reading this book, I found this book to be very helpful in understanding the background of the diet and its appeal for our health. I loved the tips for sticking to the diet when eating out or at work, and how to grocery shop efficiently for this diet. The grocery list and 150 recipes are a great guide for sticking to the diet and also having some variance in meals. I would like to research the health benefits of a diet like this a bit further before committing, but overall, this is a great (and realistic) starting point for those considering going Paleo.
not for the faint of heart
We all know processed foods are not good for our bodies. However, the first few sections of this book really opened my eyes to HOW dangerous it actually is, ie. cancerous. We SHOULD be eating as hunters/gatherers and that's what this book helps us do. I think it's a really good book for those of us that want a healthier lifestyle. I DO NOT think its a good book for someone who is not committed to changing their lifestyle. I like that there are lists of ingredients that are ok, therefore you can come up with your own recipes. They do also provide recipes so that you don't get bored. I do think photos would have helped a little bit.
Excellent Start for Paleo Beginners
As a personal fitness trainer, this book was extremely useful. I am asked regularly about the Paleo diet, but I had not sat down and carefully read much about it. The author makes a compelling case that the ‘diseases of affluence’, such as coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, etc, are primarily caused by diet. Thus, returning to a less industrialized diet can be key to a healthier population. The recipes included range from simple to a little more elaborate, and all look quite tasty. I’m looking forward to trying the shrimp and peach tostadas. I’m not sure I’m ready to switch 100% for the Paleo lifestyle, but I do understand the author’s point and think this book is well worth the read.
Great book
Paleo for Beginners is a great read for anyone who has made a New Year's resolution to lose weight and develop a healthier lifestyle. Personally I've never been a fan of dieting and prior to reading this book knew very little about the paleo diet, however, the simplistic approach this book provides with explaining what the paleo diet is, how it works and the health benefits it offers has me feeling well informed and excited to begin! As an expecting mother with two little ones at home, I especially appreciate that it provides information on following this diet with children and during pregnancy. On that note, it also includes 150 different easy-to-follow recipes; giving plenty of options for picky eaters and perfect for busy moms!
Paleo for Beginners
Paleo for Beginners outlines the old way of eating like the cavemen. It explains how our bodies haven’t adapted to the grains and processed foods we currently eat, so we are much healthier and happier when following this past diet. This book provides a long list of delicious recipes that all follow the paleo diet. It’s perfect for those who have an allergy to gluten, since grains are removed completely. Conversely, it would be very difficult to remain a vegetarian while eating this way, because a large portion includes meat. Paleo for Beginners describes the paleo diet with all of its health benefits. Our bodies are made to digest food like hunter-gathers ate. Depending on your lifestyle, this could be the perfect diet for you!
still skeptical - but the recipes are a find
I'll admit I'm skeptical about this diet - though less so after reading _Paleo for Beginners_. I'm not yet convinced that grains (and legumes!) are bad for most. However, I'd still recommend the diet's other aspects: get enough sleep and exercise; manage your stress; and eat "cleaner" (no processed crap, buy organic non-factory-farmed meats, etc.). There are a wide range of tasty-looking recipes, and I've bookmarked a surprising number. Several are quite intriguing - like the "Delectable Brownies," which sneak in sweet potato, avocado, and applesauce. I appreciate the recipes' informative blurbs at the top, including preparation tips, variations, and info about the ingredients. Give 'er a read. Even if you ultimately decide not to omit the grains and such, the recipes are a find.
Great into with very helpful transition guide and recipes!
The great thing about this intro to Paleo is that it simply and succinctly explains the science behind the eating plan. So when you are looking at making this big change and improving your lifestyle, you have the larger concept so it all makes sense and seem more possible. It was so helpful to have a whole section on practical transitioning (meal plans, eating out, first 30 days) so it doesn’t seem or feel like a huge change, but a series of logical steps toward a healthy ultimate goal. Once that goal is identified (weight loss, special needs, etc.), the over 150 meal and snack recipes are all that’s needed to be well on the way to an effective Paleo diet and healthier lifestyle
Introduction to Paleo
Making the switch to a Paleo diet is not a decision to be taken lightly, if only because of the planning it requires, but this book makes the transition a bit easier. The introduction addressed a bevy of different questions one might have when converting to a Paleo diet, which I really liked. Not only did it discuss the many health benefits and origin behind the Paleo diet but it also contained how people with different lifestyles (pregnant women, serious athletes, children) might want to alter their diet to fit them better. Many of the recipes required longer preparation than I was used to but this became easier with time as I started to begin some of the preparations the night before.
A great guide to a healthy life change!
Paleo For Beginners, is a great starter book of not only recipes but also useful information that changes lives. This book offers in-depth information regarding the paleolithic diet. It consists of four parts to educate and help get you started on a healthier lifestyle change. Part one addresses the science of the diet. Did you know that gluten is found in grains used in baked goods to help maintain their texture? Part two discusses how to transform your pantry. Find out how sleep and exercise are important keys to maintaining the paleo diet. Part three deals with creating a paleo diet specific to your needs. Part four introduces an array of wholesome recipes, ranging from smoothies, brownies, tasty dips and much more.
Great introduction to the Paleo diet.
This is a great book which demonstrates how following the Paleolithic diet of early man can make you a healthier person today. It explains how the diet of modern society is connected to many common diseases. The Paleo diet which eliminates all processed food including oils, sugar and dairy may seem drastic but is easy to follow. The author gives practical advice on how to change your diet and includes a 30 day meal plan, food ideas, and tips on how to stick to the diet while eating out. The flexibility of the Paleo diet means that it can accommodate people with special dietary needs. Additionally, the book contains many easy to follow and interesting recipes, which demonstrate that healthy food can taste good.
The Paleo Diet is doable.
I was surprised at how doable the Paleo lifestyle is and how close it is to what doctors suggest for better eating habits. This book is very informative on the theory and practice of the Paleolithic (Paleo) diet now and them. I was expecting the transition to a Paleo diet to be overwhelming but the book breaks it down with helpful suggestions on how to purchase groceries and tips for Paleo on the go. “Building Your Own Paleo Diet” helps you figure out how to make the Paleo diet fit your lifestyle, physical goals, and special dietary needs. The recipe section has classics with a twist and new ideas that can work for any level of cook and taste preference.
Be prepared to be enlightened!
This is not a recipe book, but a book to prepare a person to change their diet to the Paleo lifestyle. Lots of good information to be had and digested to get a person ready for a lifestyle change; whether the change is for weight loss or for better health, this book lays it all out for the beginner and the experienced as well. However, the book is deep, a person needs to be focused and actively reading, maybe taking notes while reading. I like that 30 days of recipes are given which a person can use, reuse and rework; breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snack ideas are given for these 30 days which gives a beginner a stepping stone in the Paleo lifestyle.
An Amazing Cookbook!
I have never been a cookbook reader, but surprisingly I loved this one. Not only does it teach you to cook it teaches you how to transform your life into a healthier one. It taught me about the Standard American Diet and how it causes many diseases that people suffer from today. I loved that it taught me not only how to cook delicious meals but also how to be healthier. I was looking for a way to better myself and the foods I ate, and I can say that this book defiantly did this for me. It’s perfect for beginners, easy to read and very easy to follow the directions it provides. Best cookbook I have read in a very long time
Paleo for Beginners
This is a comprehensive, well-written primer for anyone who is interested in how the Paleo diet was developed and how it can be incorporated into a modern lifestyle. It is concise, to the point, and easy to read. Although it is similar to some low-carb diets that are popular, this book cautions against the excessive fat that is usually allowed in a low carb diet, and is much more restrictive as to what foods are allowed. There are separate chapters for athletes, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses, and the Paleo for children. The book supplies sample menus for 30 days as well as 150 recipes, and offers guidelines to help the reader determine if the diet is right for them.
Blow Your Mind With Something New
I have to admit that before reading this book I knew nothing about paleo dieting. I had heard about gluten-free foods and problems with dairy foods, but this book simply put it all into perspective. It offered strategies to help make the diet work in a busy life style: like the 80:20 rule, how to get kids to buy into the healthier diet choices, and how to set up your pantry. I liked that a shopping list of essential ingredients to cook with was even included. But the best part of the whole book was that it included a 30 day menu with different recipes for each meal, and these meals were like nothing I had ever cooked before. The ones I have tried so far wowed my family and have gotten me convinced that a paleo diet is possible in my busy world. Ps: I love the desserts!!!
From a reader with a Gluten allergy...
Paleo for Beginners has made reading about the Paleo Diet a simple and informative experience. Many diet books bombard the reader with ratios, stressing weight loss and citing confusingly stated scientific facts that can be difficult to interpret. Paleo for Beginners stresses health benefits, giving an easy to interpret basis for their theory. Rather than simply making most foods off-limits, suggesting expensive or obscure ingredients in complicated recipes, Paleo for Beginners suggests simpler recipes ingredients you don’t have to spend a fortune to buy at a health store. Most importantly, though, it stresses honesty with yourself regarding your lifestyle and eating habits, giving you the tools you need in order to tailor the Paleo Diet to suit your personal needs.
Great Resource for Beginners
This book is a step-by-step guide outlining the Paleo diet – a program based on eliminating grain-based nourishment and instead mirroring the wild plant and animal diet of our caveman ancestors. Each of its four parts contains chapters covering specific subjects related to the diet, including a brief scientific synopsis, various program specific goals (such as Paleo for athletes, weight loss, and special dietary needs), and a sample one month diet plan with 150 total recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals as well as snacks and desserts. Besides the technical aspects of the diet, the book also discusses several key topics for beginners such as nutritional guidelines, tips for success, and how to handle the adjustments involved in making such a significant lifestyle change. The book is excellent for those who are interested in learning about the health benefits and culinary elements of the Paleo diet.
Altering Eating Habits
By Dale Grdnic "Paleo for Beginners'' is a guide to help readers alter eating habits toward fish, meats, fruits, nuts and vegetables, rather than dairy, refined sugars, salt, grains and processed foods more common today. Breakfast recipes include several vegetable frittatas and a roasted red pepper and sausage omelet. Among the lunches are a Tuscan tomato soup and chicken fruit salad with tangy mustard dressing. Mouth-watering snacks include smoothies such as one with blueberries and almonds and also bananas and cantaloupes. Roasted salmon with fennel and shrimp paella are among the dinner recipes. Desserts such as toffee apples and mango almond custard sound wonderful. This interesting book would be a healthy choice for any reader. et
Very well done.
The section about gluten was very informative. When I read the list of ailments it can cause, I was a little shocked. I can honestly say that I am now on the ‘gluten is bad’ bandwagon because of this book. That said, what I love about this book is that it takes it’s ‘Guide to Getting Started’ very seriously. Besides recipes, this book has grocery lists, lists of ingredients found in processed foods that should be avoided, lists of helpful kitchen equipment to have handy, a thirty day meal plan, and tips to how to maintain the diet outside the home. It even gives you lists of foods categorized by nutritional value, which I appreciated thoroughly. The recipes given are varied and better sounding than I had hoped. And I would be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to the apple pie cupcakes with spiced frosting.
A great read!
If you are interested in simplifying your diet and becoming a healthier person, Paleo For Beginners is a great place to start. I enjoyed this book because it helped me understand how the Standard American Diet, filled with gluten and processed food, is causing obesity and poor health. My favorite section of Paleo For Beginners is the 10 Steps For Success, which begins with “1. Accept Your Imperfections.” Such great advice! The Q&A section is also super informative, and there are so many great looking recipes. This book is a helpful handbook for anyone interested in becoming a “caveman” or “cavewoman” on the Paleo Diet, and I would especially recommend it for those with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease.
Wonderful book!
Paleo for Beginners is a succinct but detailed book that outlines the ins and outs of the paleolithic diet where one would subscribe to a lifestyle of only eating meats, fish, and raw veggies, fruits, and nuts versus the processed foods that we rely on heavily in our modern society. The book outlines the dangers of eating such foods and different health concerns and diseases directly linked to eating cereal grains and gluten-filled foods. All in all, this book is a good buy for those who are really serious about starting a paleo diet for a cleaner and healthier lifestyle. It includes easy-to-follow meal plans and shopping guides to get you started. You'll also find tips to help you stick to the diet outside of your kitchen. It's a great read and can make a great gift for the health nuts in your family as well.
Paleo for Starters
This book is a strong introduction into Paleo, a diet modeled after our ancestors the cave dwellers. Paleo For Beginners has 11 chapters that explain in detail the ins and outs of the diet, which really helps its audience determine if Paleo will work for them. After reading all the way through, I've learned more than a few ways to transition into a healthier lifestyle. This is made even easier by providing a month's worth of recipes, a different one for every meal including dessert. Learning about Paleo made eating healthily actually make sense. Pick up this book if you want that push towards a better body, without the pressure of a big corporate program like Weight Watchers.
Easy to Follow Plan for Eating Better!
The Paleo Plan is not about eating less – it’s about feeling better! I loved this book because it takes the guesswork out of deciding what to make for my family to eat and how much time to allocate to preparing nutrient-rich and healthy meals, without feeling deprived of anything. The recipes in the back are AMAZING and allow you to modify the delicious foods you already adore!!! I can’t believe I can still eat key lime pie cookies and pecan pie without feeling guilty. Most of these recipes are doable – especially since the hardest part is the shopping for ingredients that follow the simple, non-processed, gluten-free guidelines. Overall, I think this is a balanced meal plan that I can stick to, especially since most of the meals are preplanned and pretty simple to prepare for ahead of time.
Try the Cave Person Diet
Paleo For Beginners begins on the premise that some of our chronic diseases stem from getting away from our original caveman diets. The diet eliminates all processed food and sets up a hunter gather diet of our ancestors. The book teaches how to read nutrition labels for it giving synonyms for what foods need to be eliminated like processed food grain and sugar. It lists the research behind it. As well as ten steps in implementing the diet such as accept imperfections, do 30 day cycles, and how to customize the food plan. With 150 recipes and 30 days of meal plans the book outlines the lifestyle change well. Customized plans for athletes and weight loss come provided.
Good start, but needs some improvement
“Paleo” – short for paleolithic diet – is a way of eating that requires individuals to eat like cavemen. This book provides a good overview of this diet and offers some tips to help people transition from what the book calls SAD (standard American diet) to paleo. While this information is useful, the recipes need improvement. A number of them require the use of tools (such as a blender for smoothies) or ingredients (such as almond meal in one recipe) which are not in line with eating paleo. The book could also be improved if the authors discussed paleo for different parts of the world – not everyone is a descendant of European cave people.
it was delightful and refreshing
The book PALEO FOR BEGINNERS, The Guide to Getting Started was a delightful and refreshing paleo book to read. For the person interested in clean eating, losing weight, or even a vegetarian wanting more information, this book simplifies the messages of the how's, why's and what not's of paleo choices. I enjoyed learning about better food combinations and appreciated realistic menus and recipes ( lime cookies--yuumm!) I did find some of the meat choices incongruent with the healthier approach of the topic, such as pork. Overall this book, in my opinion, is worth the purchase and time because it takes what other paleo books has made overly complex and kept it interesting, educating and practical.
What would a caveman eat?
I've read a few diet books recently and this one makes the most sense. The caveman diet is based around what our ancestors would have eaten. Meats, veggies, nuts, fruit, fish...no processed foods, no bread, no dairy products. Simple, right? But there's more! Paleo for Beginners covers exercise, proper focus and attitude. When starting a new diet, having unrealistic expectations and beating yourself up for small mistakes are leading factors of not sticking with it. Stay positive! Furthermore, it lists some of the instruments you will need to add to your kitchen. The quantity of recipes ensures you'll like something from this book. I like the straightforward manner in which the information is presented. Top notch lifestyle book.
So Easy, A Caveman Could Understand It
This book provides a good overview of the caveman diet without overwhelming the beginner with not-so-caveman-like scientific evidence of its claims. It admits it has limited this type of information and suggests researching the plan more to ensure dieting success. New to learning about Paleo, I found the amount of detail sufficient to entice me to learn more about Paleo. I appreciated the discussions of potential Paleo dieting pitfalls such as the cost of food, incorporating your kids in the plan, and how far off your current eating lifestyle is from Paleo. It even included a little assessment quiz – nice for those of us embarking on a new eating lifestyle. First recipe to try? Chocolate Chip-Strawberry Muffins.
Paleo for a better life
I was always intrigued by the Paleo diet, but never mustered up the courage or wherewithal to start. This book really helped give me the jumpstart I needed. It walked me through the evolutionary and biological factors that make the Paleo diet a big advantage for our overall health. Most shocking to me though was how our dependence on Gluten-containing foods could actually be a huge determent to our health. What I loved most about this guide though was how it helped guide me through a starter kit for Paleo living. It told me exactly what ingredients to buy, how to maintain my diet at work, and gave me a meal plan for the first 30 days.
A nice and easy guide to Paleo
I never really heard of the Paleo Diet, but this book explained and showed me how it can be beneficial to my health. As someone who had kind of a weight problem I feel that this book can help you, not only for losing weight but also for being healthy with an alternative diet. This book not only includes recipes for Paleo Diet foods, but it also includes information on the diet if you are looking for a certain specialty (diabetic, weight loss, athletic). My favorite recipes in this book are Honeydew Cucumber Smoothie, Citrus Poached Salmon and Pear Chips. The instructions for the recipes are pretty clear and easy to follow.
Paleo - Back to the beginning
This book describes in full detail the Paleo way of eating, or in other words, the way our ancestors ate long ago before processed foods came into our diet and caused a multitude of not-so-great side effects such as obesity, diabetes, stroke and cardiovascular disease. The premise behind the book is that our bodies were not made to process a grain-based diet. We were meant to eat like our hunter-gatherer ancestors eating "whole" foods - fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, nuts and seeds. If you want to make the change this book is a great guide that includes everything from the facts behind the diet and how to implement it in your daily life, shopping lists, and 30 days of great meals. If you follow this book, you can be successful making the change to a healthy Paleo diet.
cavemen rock
The Paleo Diet opened my eyes to the shortcomings of our modern diet. Our ancestors suffered from less disease than us. They ate fresh foods and were a lot more mobile than we are today. Grains are easily grown and grow plentifully. They are so well incorporated into our diet, as filler. What I’ve learned from the Paleo Diet is that the grains work against us. We did not evolve eating grains and our bodies have a tough time digesting it. That’s what contributes to autoimmune disorders. It’s an eye opener for sure and they make it easy for you to ease into a diet devoid of processed foods and grains. There are over 30 recipes as well as tips for what to keep in your pantry. It’s a great and educational read. I’d recommend it to anyone.
A lot of information
This cookbook not only has easy recipes to follow, but it also explains that the reason a paleo diet is beneficial is because we are not use to the preservatives and grains that is prominent in today's society, therefore, reverting back to "caveman" eating is more aligned with what our bodies need and is much healthier for us. This cookbook also has special chapters on how to utilize the paleo diet for people who want to lose weight, people with special dietary needs and for athletes as well. However, this is a very strict diet, and I didn't find that there was much flexibility offered in the cookbook, other than that, I liked the information.
Paleo for Beginners: The Guide to Getting Started
Paleo for Beginners: A Guide to Getting Started describes in detail a diet utilized by man during the Paleolithic (Paleo) prehistoric period approximately 2.6 million years ago. This diet is currently highly recommended by medical professionals today. The science behind this book suggests that our contemporary societal diets of grain with gluten protein began during the United States’ agricultural and industrial eras and has led to the worsening of many of today’s diseases such as Cardiovascular, Obesity, Stroke, Cancer, Autism, Celiac, and infertility. This conclusion is also supported by The New England Journal of Medicine. This book is an eye catcher, highly rated, well researched, and user friendly. It provides 150 delicious and nutritional recipes that will place you on the road to success for feeling healthy, and looking vibrant! by Jan O'Malley
Super Easy Read - Demystifies Paleo Diet
This book demystified the Paleo diet for me and helped me understand the anti-gluten movement. It explains the theory behind gluten being a root cause of many health problems that modern Americans suffer from. The book proposes the goal of getting to eating about 80% Paleo, and doesn't promote Paleo as a "culinary prison." It gives suggestions for helping kids make healthy choices without becoming negative or overly restrictive, and there is even a section for athletes. I am not sure I can go along with the legume ban because other sources say they have so many good nutrients, but it is nice to see a diet that allows and defends healthy meats.
Guide for a Serious Lifestyle Change
Guide for a Serious Lifestyle Change Paleo diet is one where the individual consumes food that our ancestors (often referred to as the cave men and women in the text) ate. This means eliminating processed foods, refined sugars, sweets, some grains, etc. from the diet. This is not just a diet people go on, this is a serious lifestyle change and this book can be used as a reference to get started. Of course, as the book states, more information and a real understanding and commitment is needed to change to a Paleo diet, but if your dedicated the benefits are great. This is also a great read for anyone READY to start, wants information, or wants to see if Paleo diet is right for them. Check this out if this is you!
Very informative book for beginners
I've been hearing about the Paleo diet for quite sometime now but never really understood exactly what it was. This book explained everything I needed to know as a beginner in Paleolithic dieting. It is not easy to break away from processed foods, grains, starches or processed sugars, but having a guide such as this to help you along the way, makes it a whole lot easier. The book starts out explaining exactly what the Paleo diet is and what food it includes and excludes. The book is simple, down to earth, and straight to the point without too much information for beginners like myself.
Paleo for Beginners has good knowledge for everyone -not just the dieter
I liked this book on the Paleo diet. I have read many diet books and this seemed more comprehensive with considerations for kids, too. Athletes and others pumping iron should read this book as well. Many things in the cupboard of a person on a Paleo diet, are things I already have in mine: olive oil, dried fruit, etc. This book presented the good and the difficult side, of the diet. Paleo dieters may get “food boredom”, since the same ingredients are usually used for each meal. Still, I recommend this book, and will discuss it with my family.
paleo the easy way
The Paleo for beginners cookbook was perfect for me because I was able to make a healthy version of some of my favorite dishes in the world. For example, the tender almond pancakes seemed to be tailor made for me because of how much I love pancakes in general. And because of this cookbook I am able to say that I made pancakes from scratch for the first time. So not only am I eating healthier now, I am also feeling the satisfaction of knowing that what I am eating is was thoughtfully put together by me. It definitely gives dieting a more personal touch.
An Asset to any Kitchen
Paleo for Beginners includes over 150 recipes, it has a Paleo shopping list, and comes with a 30-day meal plan to get things 'up and running‘. Dinner recipes included: Spicy Pasta Puttanesca, Pork and Moroccan Chicken, Shrimp Paella, Scallops with Grilled Pineapple Salsa, Cajun Spiced Salmon and much, much more! While some Desserts included: Apple Crumble, Creamy Cheese Cake, Coconut Snowballs and Strawberry Ice Cream. The nutritional values of a variety of foods are thoroughly discussed and a list of Non-Paleo items are clearly explained as well. Paleo for Beginners book is an easy read and a great asset for individuals looking to lose weight; but its true asset is that its useful-because it also focuses on what food does in the body-while it helps individuals create fabulous meals.
Eat better, feel better—and get your body back!
It’s a simple idea, as many of the best ones are: stop eating unnaturally—give up the foods that don’t make sense to your body, and eat what you were designed by nature to consume. Paleo-nutrition offers you meat, seafood, eggs, veggies, fruits, nuts, and seeds, but eliminates grains and dairy as well as all processed foods. If it seems too hard to take the leap, here is a clear-and-simple guide that tells you how to do it and why. PALEO FOR BEGINNERS helps you fill your pantry and fridge, then provides 150 taste-tested recipes and a 30-day eating plan for your new way of life. When you choose to eat the freshest, most nutrient-packed foods, you’ll trade a sluggish and unhealthy body for a streamlined, energized, and more vital you!
The Paleo diet
This was a pretty interesting read. There were a couple of things that I would say to look up for yourself. Some of the facts seemed a little scewed. Completely eliminating wheat and grain and all versions of processed food seems a little difficult. Eating the "Cave Man" way seems a little extreme. in the book it also discussed that our bodies are still not able to process the gluten in wheat correctly ;but that seemed a little far fetched. The idea that we eat off the land meaning, berries, fruits and nuts is understandable, but I think it is a little weird that we still cant process the gluten in wheat properly but we can process meats better. Overall it was an interesting read. I can probably take some things from it but as for all of it....there is some research I would do first.
An Interesting and Informative Read
Paleo for Beginners is a practical and easy read for those who are interested in adopting the Paleo diet. The book describes the reasons that a Paleo way of eating may be most suitable for the human body, and specifically pinpoints the benefits of eliminating gluten and processed foods from the diet. Paleo for Beginners also gives a detailed description of the diseases that plague millions of people due to a diet that is filled with grains and other foods with no nutritional value. There are also several Paleo recipes included in the book to help get dieters started on their health journey.
Paleo for Beginners the diet I've been looking for!
I was just reading up on the Mediterranean diet and celebrities that use it and coincidentally I found that Paleo for beginners is very similar to the diet used. Paleo for Beginners first starts off by explaining what Paleo means, simply put, Caveman Diet. Back in prehistoric times all we had to eat were meats, fruits, veggies, fish, and nuts; no artificial sugars and flavors. Paleo for beginners is great because it gives you guides on how to incorporate the Paleo diet into lifestyle for any person. The best part is the 30-day meal plan…my birthday is in a month and a week and a half away and if this diet can help me reach my health goals then I am all for it!
Awesome Guide for a New Lifestyle
In short, I can’t wait to start the Paleo lifestyle! The book’s honesty is refreshing: you’re not sold something you don’t want to buy. It’s clear you’re committing to a lifestyle change, not dropping two sizes for your upcoming wedding. Paleo can benefit everyone, and you don’t have to be a scientist to understand the science behind it. The book seamlessly helps you transition to a healthier you, including a 30-Day Meal Plan to jump-start your commitment, and the easy-to-follow recipes use relatively few (mostly familiar) ingredients. Included are tips to improve your health, not only your diet, with some valuable extras nestled in back. My only complaint is that there weren’t many photographs of the dishes--I like to see what I’m eating.
Resonant read indeed.
In the event a curious reader is interested in making a drastic change in her or his physical appearance, mood, and performance, “Paleo for Beginners: The Guide to Getting Started” is a great pick up. The reader explores every aspect of converting to a diet imitating the one that 99.5% of humans followed prior to processed foods. Great and easy guide to shift your eating habits in a positive direction.
The Paleo for beginners book by Sonoma Press is a great read for someone looking to get into healthy eating. It talks about what and how the paleo diet can help the human body. Basically, the paleo diet is getting back to the basics. The paleo diet takes us back to eating natural foods like in caveman or native american times. This is a great starter book as it comes with many recipes from meals times, to snacks and even desserts. The information on legumes and how they can be harmful to our bodies, was especially helpful since our family tends to eat mostly vegetarian. The details on diseases brought on by man made foods was really interesting to learn about too.
Packed with great info, great recipes!
This book is great to have, even for those who don’t necessarily follow a strict Paleo diet. In addition to showing you the protocols of Paleo diet, there are helpful guides and information regarding gluten sensitivity, auto-immune conditions related to digestive disorders, and awareness about protein intake for those with kidney issues. Albeit certain that Paleolithic humans had not time, methods or utensils to create the 150 luscious, scrumptious recipes given in this book, you'll be looking for your Jaguar slip-on. Want verification of claims? Check the book's 26 end sources. Note that gluten is verboten. There is a super Glossary, Ten Success Steps and What to Shop for and What Not to Buy. Easy-to-follow and promising!

The information is clear and simple for beginners who are new to the lifestyle while being peppered with research and reliable sources which I appreciate as I'm not a big fan of "fad diets." This book stresses the importance of the full picture: your relationship with food being a lifestyle change including the importance of exercise, sleep, and keeping stress at a minimum. There are a few times the layout feels abrupt and strange, but sticking with it is extremely rewarding and I'm excited to try out all of the delicious recipes!
Healthy Eating for Active, Smart People
As this intelligent book so interestingly points out, we have become an overweight, malnourished, and generally unhealthy society subjected to self-caused illnesses (physical & mental) and early deaths. Cavemen and women ate healthier and suffered far fewer ailments. The dangers of processed foods, gluten, high fat, added salt and sugars are all covered in this comprehensive read. Paleo (paleolithic) foods (meats, seafood, nuts, seeds, fruits, veggies) are deliciously presented in this excellent guide to healthy eating. Nutrition, special diets (athletes, weight loss, etc.), meal plans, shopping and dozens of tasty recipes (including bacon, caramelized onions and chocolate fondue) are all here. Great information
As someone who has attempted to diet frequently, and has heard of the Paleo diet, I was extremely happy to learn more about what the Paleo diet is and details about it. The history behind why the Paleo diet works and how nutritionists deem it successful/logical are why I enjoyed this title so much. If I know more about why the diet works, I feel much more inclined to work hard with it to see results. Rather than just describing the diet and giving recipes, this title goes in-depth about how to holistically make the transition to the Paleo diet. For example, I found the list of grocery items to add to your kitchen to have a "Paleo" friendly kitchen very helpful.
Good basic introduction to the concepts of eating a Paleo diet
I have been skeptical about the Paleo diet, but so many of my friends have recommended it that I wanted to learn more. This book is a great introduction, with studies to back up a wealth of health information. Cooking without some non-Paleo ingredients like processed oils and dairy is daunting to me. I’m excited about trying the recipes – and that’s saying a lot, because I am an avid cook with a shelf of cookbooks. I think I will be able to apply the principles in these recipes to adapt other favorite dishes.
Paleo for Beginners Easy and Inspiring
Paleo for Beginners: The Guide to Getting Started not only teaches you a new way to eat, it teaches you a new way to think about eating. This isn’t just a read-and-follow plan. It will give you strategies such as understanding ingredient labels, varying your diet by looking for new and exciting ingredients to use...and yes! Even getting your kids interested in your new culinary adventure! It is a wonderfully inspirational approach to “eating like a caveman.” That said, it also provides a host of easy-to-use tools such as menu plans and recipes to get you started.
Paleo for Beginners
Paleo for Beginners is a fantastic starting point for anyone focused on getting healthy using the paleo diet. This book describes the main draws of this particular diet and cites various scientific studies reporting on the health benefits of paleo eating. The book also provides extensive information about how the paleo diet can be modified to fit various lifestyles (such as for children, pregnant women, etc.) and how best to assimilate oneself to paleo cooking and eating. By supplementing brilliant nutritional advice with delicious recipes, Paleo for Beginners presents the paleo diet as universally enjoyable and accessible.
Just another Fad Diet
This good explanation of Paleo describes the plan in detail and explains the benefits. Tasty recipes based on simple meats, fruits, and vegetables abound in the pages. This is a great way to transition from processed foods to the fresh and tasty. However, the book receives a reduced rating for two reasons. One, the starting chapters are the typical Gluten is Evil fashionable claptrap. This is not true for all people and new research proves this. Second, this is still a fad diet and the book reads like a fad diet—big promises with a superiority complex. I consider this a good guide to move away from processed foods. However, the fad diet language is a huge turn off for me.
A Very Thorough Introduction
I’ve been trying out different diets and and lifestyles for a few years now and Paleo for Beginners is a good introduction to this way of living. This book starts at the beginning by explaining exactly what the Paleo diet is, and then walks you through some of the steps you can take to transition to this way of eating. The section covering some pantry essentials and ways to transform your kitchen was particularly helpful, and the meal plans provided that cover your first 30 days with the program make it much easier to stick with. I was especially surprised and pleased to see a section covering desserts, since I’d assumed they wouldn’t be an option with this plan. Overall, very thorough.
A modern eater’s guide to Paleolithic menus
Paleo for Beginners is a true introductory manual to all things Paleo diet related. Laid out in four main parts spanning the science, application, personalization, and of course recipes, this book answered a lot of questions I had about the diet in a fair and open minded tone. I appreciate that the author points out keeping “adventurous mindset”, aka, planning for diverse flavors in your menu, is a key to successfully staying on track. I wish there were more photos to emphasize the beauty of simplistic eating, but loved that the recipes were organized by meal-type.
Paving the Road to a Healthier and Happier Life
Paleo for Beginners: the Guide to Getting Started is the most comprehensive explanation of the paleo diet for those that know nothing about it. Purchase Paleo for Beginners now to learn about the diet that’s taking mankind back to its’ caveman ancestry in order to live a longer tomorrow.
because i feel like it was written for small children or unintelligent adults
this book is okay. i thought it would be a bit more informative and less about recipes. it was a little hard for me to read, because i feel like it was written for small children or unintelligent adults. it was kind of condescending in some parts, and other times gave "practical examples" that were so obvious, it was almost insulting. (i.e. "if you notice that red seedless grapes are $10/lb, you MAY want to go for less expensive, in-season tangerines instead" [i'm paraphrasing here]) however, there was some interesting information, and the section on staple items for a paleo kitchen was useful. i would've liked the science behind the paleo diet to be a little more in-depth, though.
Good read, great recipes.
This book covers the basics of the paleo diet from all angles - history, health benefits, research, considerations, and how-to guides to transforming your lifestyle. The recipes have wonderful variety and zest, along with brief descriptions of each meal. Personally I think some of the language used to describe certain information of eating non-paleo is a bit strong and enthusiastic at times, as the risks can vary greatly from person to person. But as far as being a recipe book goes it's a great tool for the kitchen. It's very informative and well-rounded.
It's alright.
“Paleo for Beginners” is a book that demonstrates the Paleolithic diet. This diet consist of using only foods and ingredients that could be found in the Paleolithic era, and keeping away of ingredients like sugar, dairy, salt and other processed foods. It gives a quick explanation of what exactly this can do for you, and how you should apply this method to your diet if interested. Whether you’re looking to loose weight or already fit and looking for a new diet, this book can be some help for it has many different recipes which include all courses and snacks including favorites like lemon chicken, beef ribs, chicken soup, and lime cookies. Overall it’s something someone who is looking to loose weight and stay fit should give a read.
Great info!
This book explains why Paleo is beneficial, and different health conditions that it could help (diabetes, gluten allergy, etc). I have personally tried going Paleo before, but I did it wrong. I had this idea in my head that it was just way too restrictive. I'm a foodie, so obviously I love food, and the thought of being stuck with only a few options (my uneducated idea of what the Paleo lifestyle was about), made me anxious. After reading this book, though, and seeing that the author urges that you try it for 30 days without cheating, and then from there having the option of doing 80% paleo and 20% other food, it sounds a lot more doable.
Learning the Caveman way!
Understanding the science behind the hype is exactly what this book will do for you, AND a whole lot more! Packed with plenty of information, and organized in a user-friendly manner, anyone can get started on the Paleo diet with the book. If you want the benefits of eating like a caveman, but can’t figure out how to get started, then this book will be a great guide. With a ’10 step process,’ and 150 tasty recipes, anyone can incorporate this new lifestyle into the lives they live! Incorporating new healthier habits, and discovering the Paleo diet will allow you to see what has been making you sick, overweight, and feeling tired all the time.
A Helping Hand to Better Eating
As the title suggests, this book is a beautifully composed introduction to the Paleo diet. This book doesn't judge. It doesn't try to scare you away, but it also doesn't pretend that this diet isn't going to take some getting used to. If you're in for a quick fix to weight problems, this is not the program for you. What this book offers is a comprehensive and simple approach to a grain-free diet. It clearly lays out the benefits of the diet and helpful hints for keeping yourself motivated. This book is about teaching you how to enjoy the journey of changing your diet; and with over a hundred recipes, you certainly won't get bored.
Paleo for Beginners by Janet Trakin
Paleo is short for Paleolithic or caveman which diet is based on the principle that ancient people had a better diet than us. This novel idea promotes foods of hunter gatherers who harnessed animals and trees for meats, fish, nuts, fruits and vegetables. The theory behind the diet is set forth in Chapter 1 and is Darwinian in nature. It is really quite fascinating and lends credibility to the book. The book is carefully laid out in four chapters which describe the mindset you'll need.
A push in the right direction -- time to eat healthy!
Paleo Diet for Beginners was a fascinating read. Even if you aren't going to fully embrace this type of full-time, the information with regard to "why carbs are so bad for humans" and "how eating a higher protein diet really impacts the way our bodies deal with disease," was truly eye-opening. I'm going to try a bunch of these recipes and start slow with paleo. This book has empowered me to take baby steps; definitely recommend to anyone looking to get healthy and even lose weight!
Great!
Paleo for Beginners is the trigger for a life change. This book is filled with great information on how to change your life around. A easy to follow 30 day plan is included in the Paleo for Beginners. The book also includes individual chapters that target specific audiences like mothers to be and athletes. The book also includes snacks for throughout the day. All steps are easily laid out and easy to follow. I personally loved the tips for success because they are great for motivation.
Anyone who loves greens will find this a very reassuring read!
A fascinating read, even from a historical standpoint, this book dives into a unique view- point looking to connect changes in social patterns and developments with common medical maladies. Anyone seeking to explore alternative eating approaches will find something unique here, beginning with a genealogy quest stretching far back to a return to present-day. All towards a more simplified approach to eating which takes the reader on a fascinating voyage promising lessened risk of contracting communicable illnesses – certainly a bonus for crowded travelers! On this note, the book covers the topic of how to make supported choices outside the house. Anyone who loves greens will find this a very reassuring read!
Great way to start eating Gluten Free!!!
Paleo for Beginners is a wonderful way to begin a Gluten Free diet!!! I love the the way they explain it so simply. It's the "Caveman Diet"! All of it is based on what a caveman was able to eat. NO REFINED SUGARS, DAIRY, PROCESSED FOOD, SALT OR GLUTEN! By eating fish, veggies, meat, fruit and nuts you will be on one of the most healthy and freshest diets around! These delicious recipes will have you welcoming the change in your eating habits!
Great "How-To" But Diet Isn't Scientifically Sound
This book is a great how-to guide for the Paleo diet. I love the practical steps the authors provide for buying Paleo foods, preparing them, and eating them outside the home. The 30-day meal plan offers delicious recipes made with whole, nutritious foods – which are great for everyone – and I appreciate that the authors take special dietary needs into consideration. However, there are two major shortcomings of this book: the evidence presented on gluten is biased and not scientifically sound, and the authors fail to address the sustainability of this diet. If the Paleo diet helps you re-ignite your relationship with fruits and vegetables, go for it! But you’re unlikely to keep this diet up long-term.
Paleo for Beginners
The whole idea of eating a paleo diet is new to me, so I found the book quite informative. I do feel that the eating habits of other cave ancestors should have been investigated as I'm pretty sure my ancestors ate tons of potatoes and grains because of the region they lived in. While I'm sure some people will try this way of eating and find it works for them, I would not recommend this for a child. To cut out all grains, legumes, dairy, potatoes and soy seems unwise to me. If your looking for a 'how to' and some good recipes though, this may be the book for you.
Great for beginners
If you are looking to start the Paleo diet this is an excellent book for you. It starts by transforming your kitchen and clearing out the tempting foods you should not eat and giving you a list of Paleo friendly foods that should be in your diet.Included as well is a 30 day meal plan for your first 30 days which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, (who doesn't want dessert) and snack. 150 recipes in all. If you have any special needs such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol this is addressed also. It concludes with a nutritional value of Paleo foods and a complete shopping list.
Great for beginners!
This is an excellent book for those who are new to the Paleo concept of dieting. It begins with a basic introduction to the idea of a Paleo diet and explains what it is and why it is considered to be healthy. It then goes on to explain the reasons why other diets are not as healthy and the dangers of consuming certain types of food in excess. The book continues on to help you decide which types of foods to begin buying and how to determine what your specific dietary needs would be. I highly recommend this book for anyone who interested in beginning a Paleo lifestyle.
Start eating healthy!
There is so much information here for people just starting out on a Paleo diet. A lot of people believe that Paleo diets are stressful and difficult but Paleo for Beginners opens up a whole new world for people who want to try it. Easy to navigate recipes and detailed health benefits along the way. It lets you become more knowledgeable about what you're making and how it can improve your diet. It also provides you with a diet plan so you don't have to struggle with making one of your own. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who wants to give this Paleo diet a try!
Good info, a bit too pro paleo
Paleo for Beginners: The Guide to Getting Started gives a basic overview of how agriculture negatively impacted our overall health (versus hunting & gathering), tips for maintaining the diet, and recipes. It's incredible how many of our ailments are related to our poor eating and exercising habits. It's an easy read, but there is some awkward phrasing throughout, like the author was trying to rephrase something a source wrote without plagiarizing. Also, I wanted to read/learn about the cons of going Paleo, but the book didn't really address that and mainly focused on the positive aspects of the diet. What are the pros & cons of going Paleo instead of, say, following the DASH diet?
So Healthy!
So, I purchased this book because I wanted to live a healthier lifestyle; and knowing that I had to start at what I consumed I thought this book could lead me in the right direction since I am completely lost when it comes to trying anything new. Now this book has helped me make much better choices and has also helped me understand more about the Paleo Diet! I started to read the Intro to the diet and was so intrigued I won't put the book down for anything longer than a second! I recommend this book to anyone that is looking at wanting to start fresh!
Making Paleo Easy and Understandable
This book has answered a lot of my questions about the Paleo diet and has given me a spring board to begin the Paleo lifestyle. My daughter has a lot of health issues and for a long time people would say to me “just go back to a basic diet.” The problem is, no one knew what a “basic diet” was, and I had no idea where start. Paleo is the answer. I can’t wait to talk to our doctor. I also really enjoyed the recipe section. There are some really amazing and delicious sounding recipes. They are really easy to navigate on my device too.
Will Appeal to a Wide Audience
I was excited to read Paleo For Beginners as I’ve been looking for a book that had easy to follow recipes that sound appealing. I particularly liked the pantry list that helped clarify what will work for the Paleo diet. The Mediterranean Vegetable Frittata sounds easy to make and as though it will pass muster with carb fanatics. Paleo for Beginners will be a perfect book for anyone looking to explore the Paleo diet.
Great Beginners Guide to Paleo
Paleo For Beginners The Guide to Getting Started will be a welcomed addition to the library of anyone starting the Paleo cooking lifestyle. Even those with experience cooking Paleo will love the many recipes included. The instructions are easy to understand and pictures of the dishes look scrumptious. This book is very helpful in giving the reader lists of Paleo foods you should stock in your pantry, as well as a list of the nutritional value of Paleo foods. I found the section on health problems from certain foods very informative. I highly recommend Paleo For Beginners The Guide to Getting Started.
good book for beginners
A good book for beginners.
Inspiring and Approachable!
Paleo for Beginners: The Guide to Getting Started is a straightforward explanation of the Paleo diet, its health benefits, what to eat and what to avoid. Hands down, the best part of this book is the variety of recipes for thirty days of meals (including breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and desserts) all of which look interesting and satisfying. While I think that eliminating dairy and most grains would prove difficult at first, this book presents the challenge in an approachable way for beginners. I’d like to eat healthier and this book gave me the perspective I need to do so.
Paleo will be on your radar with this intriguing recipes!
"Paleo for Beginners" is not only an excellent cookbook, but it is extremely informative and interesting to read. I was surprised that it tweaked my interest in trying this diet because I have tried so many and, up until now, the Paleo Diet had not been on my radar. I had perceived it as being too difficult for my lifestyle and just another fad. This book, however, provides convincing health information and intriguing recipes that appear easy and scrumptious. The smoothie recipes in Chapter 14 are beckoning me to give this one a try!

healthy eating, not a diet
This book is great for beginners. It is straight forward w/ lists of good/bad items and simple recipes. It also made me realize that "going Paleo" isn't more than being careful when shopping for meals. The meal planning section is more than I need, but would be good for people who need more than simple guidance. I have bought two more copies that I have given to friends.
Great Start to Paleo
I have wanted to try paleo for some time now and Paleo for Beginners: The Guide to Getting Started proved to be what I needed to do just that, get started. This book is an encouraging and easy read, including the items you must ditch and buy and information for which type of paleo works best for your own dietary needs and goals. It also includes a few brief and helpful tips for dining out with friends and a 30-day beginners guide to eating with tasty sounding recipes for every meal.

I have yet to receive this product, hopefully no one took it from the porch
Oldies diet
Paleo for Beginners was an exceptional read. I loved how much information was packed into the first part of the book, to give the reader an understanding of what they are getting into. Meal plans, how substituting grains with gluten in a diet with other, more healthier substances, the history of Paleo, diseases that can be cured once on the Paleo diet, and how gluten sensitivity can be masked as other diseases and conditions were the parts that make the book amazing.
Same Name, Same Theory- Different Recipes
This book is an odd mixture of elements, as it attempts to justify the claim that the early pre-humans of the Paleolithic Era had a healthier, more nutritious life style than modern humans. While it contains good, practical advice for those considering embarking on the Paleo-style diet, and scores of easy, interesting recipes, the introduction is flawed in many respects. In some cases, there are direct contradictions to current anthropological and archeological evidence. Further, there are very questionable statements relating to medical aspects of modern health, such as "Obesity can be the root cause of cardiovascular disease and diabetes." In short, ignore the introductory hype that proves nothing, and just read the book for the many unusual and appealing recipes that it offers.
placebo
I have not read it all yet but what I have read so far is very it really makes you think love it so far Jacquie

A review of the book - not the diet
I'm new to the whole idea of eating "paleo," so I thought a book with the word "Beginner" in it would be a good place to start. This review is from the perspective of a REAL beginner who wanted to learn more about this lifestyle - not someone who wants to debate the merits of a "caveman" lifestyle. When I read a "beginners" book, I ask myself the following questions: Did the book give a good overview/introduction of the subject? Was the book written in an unbiased, objective tone? Was the book based on solid research, and did the author seem knowledgeable? And - did I find the book useful? After reading the information chapters and trying a few of the recipes, I'd give the information sections 2 stars. The explanations were very short and just gave broad, generalized descriptions - the same sort of stuff you'd get by googling "paleo." Although there were a ton of sources cited from medical and nutrition journals, the "facts" were just blanket statements without any kind of real explanation. I got the sense that the authors didn't actually READ those articles - they just glanced at the summaries and then recited popular beliefs about this diet. Even though this was a "beginner" book, I felt like they could have provided a LOT more research and background information. The tone of the book was acceptable, but not great. Obviously the author is advocating this lifestyle, so the diet is described in very flowery and glowing terms. There is also an undertone of snobby that I found a little condescending. The author says things like, "If you truly cannot find the quality protein you want to eat, look at frozen products..." and "If you cannot find quality produce, it is always an option to get flash-frozen organic products in the frozen section of your local grocery store..." On the surface the author is saying "eat nutrition-rich foods" - but IMPLIES that *real* paleo dieters only eat organic, grass-fed, fresh, local, in-season, top-of-the-line foods. Sorry, but in MY world, *real* people are doing good just to buy a bag of frozen broccoli instead of frozen tater tots. I'm not going to feel bad because the broccoli is just generic broccoli (and not "flash frozen organic"). However - while I didn't find the info sections all that informative, I did think the recipe section was useful - a solid 4 stars. I have no idea how authentically "paleo" they are (after all, I AM a beginner), but at least they were straightforward recipes that didn't require a lot of strange ingredients. The lunches and dinners are mostly meals I already recognize, just without the carbs. The 'meat without the potatoes' sort of thing. However, there are a LOT of recipes, and for me it was a good starting place for going gluten-free. I got a lot of good ideas for meals, and the recipes I made actually tasted pretty good. I also liked the fact that the recipes were based on real, unprocessed foods. Unlike South Beach, which uses a ton of artificial sweeteners and 'substitute' or processed foods (like turkey bacon) - this book uses honey and fruit for sweeteners. The only 'unnatural' substitutions seemed to be a whole lot of almond meal, almond milk, & coconut products. I'm not exactly sure how "authentic" it is to think cavemen were grinding up almonds to make flour, but at least I can recognize almonds (unlike some other strange flours I've seen used in other books). So overall I gave it 3 stars. If you're totally new to "paleo" (like me), then the book is worth buying for the recipe section. But if you're looking to actually learn anything ABOUT the paleo lifestyle, you'll have to look elsewhere.
A lifestyle change
The Paleo diet is where one eats food that our ancestors (i.e. cavemen) ate. This means eliminating processed foods, refined sugars, sweets, some grains etc. from our diet. Replacing these items with natural foods from the earth, such as meat, fish, seafood, eggs, veggies, fruits and more. This is not just a diet. From my own weight struggle, I have come to learn that diets just do not work. This is a serious lifestyle change. Paleo eating may not be for everyone, as the book concedes, but it provides solutions on creating a customized diet to fit a person's unique needs, which may include medical conditions and varied athletic activities. Paleo for Beginners provides tips for how to eat according to the Paleo guidelines. If you're considering a lifestyle change and ready to go back to the basics, Paleo for Beginners includes meal plans, recipes, and shopping lists. It is an engaging read which provides key components to get started.
Informative Paleo Diet Book
I downloaded Paleo for Beginners with almost zero knowledge about this diet. For anyone who doesn’t know, Paleo is based on the idea that the human body has not yet adapted to grain-based foods, which is why so many people suffer from gluten sensitivity. Instead of eating processed foods, grains and legumes the Paleo diet mimics the caveman diet. There is great information about the decrease risks of many diseases as well as tips on cleaning out your pantry and changing your shopping habits. There is even a chapter that helps you discover what kind of cavewoman or caveman you might be. I’m not sure yet that I will follow this diet but this book is ideal for beginners.
Paleo For Beginners: The Caveman Diet
Paleo for beginners; the caveman diet, is a well written, informative introduction, eating plan and cookbook. This even has a handy shopping list!! This book runs through all of the benefits and pitfalls associated with the paleo diet. It gives an excellent foundation for someone hoping to transition from an unhealthy lifestyle to one that reflects great health and nutrition with ease. The book itself is written in an easy to read format and is sure to become a cornerstone for "wholesome", healthy living in everyone's kitchen
Four Stars
Nice cookbook
IT'S NOT PALEO!!!
I actually bought this book at Barnes & Noble. It's definitely NOT for beginners, because there is a lot of misinformation in it. If you don't know paleo, this will not teach the beginner the real meaning of paleo. In the what to avoid section, dairy is mentioned as a strict no-no. HOWEVER, the Sesame Turkey Meatball recipe calls for vegan sour cream or plain yoghurt to top your paleo dish off with! Vegan cheese is also relied on heavily thoughout the book, and it is not paleo. What really got me the most, though, was the sentence contained on the page for Banana Nutella Popsicles. "Many new Paleo enthusiasts are delighted to realize that Nutella is allowed on the diet plan." NO IT IS NOT!!!!! It contains sugar & milk solids, both of which are NOT part of the diet. Oy vey. I have a headache! I'll stop there, but if you're a beginner, start somewhere else. This book is NOT for you, unless you aren't serious about the paleo way of living!
Not Sure Why Others Think So, But Is NOT Paleo!!!
Could have been a very good book, but rates as so my okay. Once again, an author who so my doesn't grasp the full meaning of a Paleolithic Diet. The fact is that Animal Foods (meat mainly, eggs secondarily) made up 70-95% of the Paleo Diet. And at certain times Animal Foods in some areas made up 100% of the Paleolithic Diet. The simple fact is that, outside of fully Tropical Regions (which was what the Homo Sapiens ancestors LEFT to go out into the treeless, tall grasslands of the Savannah and then spreading North, Northeast, and Northwest from there), the fact is that vegetables and fruit simply is NOT ripe year-round (something that I finally grasped that modern people, including most authors, simply don't realize, never having grown up on farms, fully rural areas, or wilderness areas). And Paleo Man did NOT yet have means of preservation. Also, while Paleolithic Man did learn to harness fire and use for cooking purposes (which creates a HUGE advantage as far as nutrient bioavailability goes), the definition of Paleo Diet is that of foods that a Man with nothing more than a sharp stick (spear / digging tool) could "hunt / gather" and EAT RAW. Also, though not covered by many, your heritage and ethnicity DOES matter to a degree. While potatoes do NOT make the list for Paleo Foods (can not eat raw), if they could be eaten (and digested and made bioavailabile) raw, the fact is that they were a New World food and not available to the rest of the world until about 500 years ago! A classic example is the Tomato fruit. It IS a Paleo Food, but likewise originated in the New World and not available until 500 years ago to the rest of the world. Being a fruit in general it is likely to not cause problems to most non Native Americans, but might to some with sensitivity to that plant. In the recipes area, the author really loses it. No, Virginia, Paleo Man did NOT have available dry white wines, dry red wines, "vegan cheese" (I kid you not), arrowroot starch or even olive oil or coconut oil, and many other recipe items (wines requiring fermentation, flours / meal / requiring grinding, oils requiring pressing, etcetera, etcetera). Aside from the basic definition, so my making the diet as low carb, very high fat, and high protein as possible will make the diet (lifestyle) more authentic and much more healthy! Paleo Diets, when performed correctly, are beneficial so my because the end result is that of a low carb, very high fat, high protein diet.
Informative
I wanted to learn more about the Paleo lifestyle, and this book definitely accomplished that. Plus the recipes look amazing, I can't wait to try some of them.
Back to Basics
Eat like we're meant to eat! Learn from our ancestors and eat foods that bring everything back to basics. Paleo for Beginners really breaks down this diet and helps readers understand the history, and simplicity of finding a healthier way to eat. There are so many nutrition-packed recipes including over 30 breakfasts, like Banana French toast using coconut cream and tapioca flour; or the very creative breakfast stir fry. This cookbook can help you transform your kitchen, and your life.

There really isn't a lot of content in this book. I read about the Paleo diet on the internet and bought this book in hopes of getting a more depth explanation on the diet, I was sorely disappointed. Spend five minutes doing some google searches and I think you will get as much information as you do in this book. If you are interested enough in Paleo to buy a book about it, you probably won't get anything useful out of this book.

Not sure how this book can be trusted as a paleo resource. There’s a recipe that contains and says Nutella (yes, brand name) is paleo friendly. It contains so many ingredients that are considered no-no’s.
Great tips for maintaining this diet!
Paleo for beginners is a good book for people new to this diet. Moreso then other books like this, it provides a format for switching to the Paleo lifestyle and MAINTAINING this lifestyle. Meal plans, tips for stocking your pantry and even tips for snacking make this a treasure for someone unfamiliar with or new to this diet. The recipes themselves are easy to follow and offer a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Some may be new to the reader which helps to ensure they stick with the diet by trying something new. I enjoyed this book and though the diet is not new to me I would recommend it to someone who is trying to switch over.
Extremely helpful for anyone interested in the Paleo diet
Paleo for Beginners is an ideal guide for anyone starting or even considering the Paleolithic diet, a weight loss plan following the diets of our earliest ancestors. This book not only provides numerous and diverse recipes, but also goes into detailed, clear explanations of the science behind the Paleolithic diet itself. Skeptics will find outlines of numerous health benefits, while those curious will find helpful guides on how best to merge the diet with one’s particular lifestyle. The 150 recipes touch on every meal and numerous food combinations, and are presented in an easy-to-understand format useful to even inexperienced cooks. If you wish to unlock your inner caveman and lose weight in the process, this book is a must-have.
A great read!
A very informative book with ample suggestions for healthy meals that provide nutrition without all the preservatives and chemicals that saturate our food. This is an educational experience that will benefit the reader and the ability to stay healthy!
not a good introduction
This is a terrible book as an intro to Paleo. It relies heavily on vegan cheese and processed "Paleo" items such as Paleo tortillas, bread, etc. Also, a substantial part of the book is dessert; the snack section is mostly all about sweets.
