Great real world advice and genuine life / career insights

Isi captures the reader's attention by highlighting very relevant topics of challenges overcome through success. She does this while giving real life examples on how to identify your goals and any obsticles that could stand in the way. Her insights and experience within technology are in highly looked up to... Put that at the intersection of motivating women and girls of all ages, then you have the kind of book that anyone would enjoy reading and applying to life. Being a parent I can relate to those aspects of her genuine care for the future generations. I would definitely recommend this to my daughter as she gets older and more inquisitive in a technical career. I also can relate to the technical advice given. She speaks truth on those topics and I can vouch for those because I too work in the same industry & have worked with Isi first hand on some major projects together. It's a great read for ANYONE interested in technology and great advice / teaching on being successful in the same areas of the industry for their career.

I needed this

I seemed to have forgotten how much you can learn from the failures and triumphs of others. Big reminders to be flexible and open. I value the way Dr. Isi is able to flesh out her own experiences in an open and honest way. Her reflections are both relatable and inspiring and honestly everything I needed to hear. I've been in a rut and feeling the pressures of society, ever more as I am getting older. I've been allowing my failed experiences to dictate my willingness to surpass my limits. Fear truly can make you stagnant and excuses does leave you to accept that position. Thank you so much for giving us a glimpse of your story and for reminding me that I am not alone in my sentiments and that yes I can. I recommend this book to everyone really. And as a socially marginalized person being black, queer, working class and a woman, I feel like it just hits me that much more.

Inspiring

I enjoy reading books about people who have to overcome immense challenges and this one fit that bill. How interesting to read about the authors early fascination with coding and her career evolution. I suck at coding. My first experience with it in college was taught my a man who looked like Einstein and wrote notes on a chalkboard in a big lecture hall so you couldn’t see a thing he was doing. So I was turned off by it early and instead studied science. Now, 20 years later I can see how much coding has taken off and how much we NEED books like this one. ESPECIALLY for women of color. But I think Isioma is a role model for all young women. Demand is high for people with her skill set and her story is bound to make a much needed impact. Very well done.

This should be a must read for lil girls everywhere!

The dedication the author has for youth in technology is so apparent, and it is super exciting to learn about her journey up to this point. "Out of Africa & Into the Cloud" not only illustrates the triumphant spirit of the author, but this book is full of hidden gems to help others avoid pitfalls, and fight discouragement, while on the path to a successful career in the tech space.

Inspiring Future Generations

Dr. Isi Idemudia shares her personal journey in technology that has led her to be an Amazon Web Services Certified Architect and a leading member of the Accenture Cloud Technology practice. She describes starting her journey from a failure to get into an architect program that turned out to be a blessing that launched her on her technology career. Her initial schooling had 1 computer for every 150 students, less than 2% of whom were girls. She learned early to find creative ways to leverage the time away from and in front of the computer to make the most of every minute. Dr. Idemudia also highlights the fears she faced along her journey, giving practical advice & questions to help the reader think through and conquer their own fears - whether on a journey into a technology career or not. She also takes a moment to highlight the people who inspire her own journey and recognizes the people who have helped her on her way. As a mother of 2, Dr. Idemudia continues to give back to the technology community through volunteer work and helping train the next generation of women technologists.

A very inspiring book!

Dr. Isi has done a masterful job narrating her journey through the relatively uncharted terrain of Nigerian girls in technology. She is able to provide a vivid account of the hurdles and challenges she encountered, while also setting out easy to follow strategies with which she overcame them. Her mastery of prose makes the book both captivating and very easy to read. Isi's detailed analysis of fear and the debilitating effect it could exert the average mind is quite instructive. Also remarkable is the courage she was able to summon in adjusting to the unfamiliar terrain and the palpable grit and audacity with which she faced life in this hostile world once she got settled in. This is definitely a book every young person should read, particularly young girls. A true success story based hard-work, courage, perseverance, and self belief. and Congratulations, Isi.

Borderless Impact of Education - Motivational for Girls/Women

I encourage every girl child to read this book, it showcases a woman who derives much pleasure in challenging the odds and inspiring other women to set targets and surmount them, this piece reverberates the journey of a determined personality who's equipped with genuine desire to break boundaries and fully kitted with the right discipline, devotion, determination and consistent dedication to succeed. It is another landmark contribution to coding and women in Tech, and a testament to the fact that girls aren't limited in the Tech world but rather an additional voice to unmask the great opportunities available to girls in the Tech industry, I view this books as equally geared towards bridging the gap of Gender inequality in Tech Reading this book and understanding the viewpoints of the author was quite informative, very motivational, engaging and educational. Thanks, Dr. Isioma for sharing your thoughts and exposure on cloud computing

Simplicity, Substance and More in Great Style

Out of Africa & Into the Clouds isn't just another nice collection on the cloud theme, it's a must read and more interestingly it cuts across the age grades. I particularly was drawn to how in very simple and easy to understand terms, the writer (Dr. Ise Idemudia) balances the appeal to the younger reader as well as the more advanced learner. Out of Africa & Into the Cloud isn't about just Africa and the transitioning into the cloud, it is a milestone, a testimony and a point of reference to how the many potential talents anywhere across the globe can be sought, harnessed and developed to drive a more integrated and efficient cloud service system which in the end benefits all. It's a masterpiece and am looking forward to more in this space.

Brilliant, inspiring, impactful.

I’m amazed at the level of details the author packed into this book. It’s easy to read and understand and a great guide for any girl or any one for that matter who wants to build a Tech-related career. And for non-tech people, it’s even still inspiring as it shares an impactful message on focus, resilience and determination which can be applied to pretty much every area of your life. I’m quite inspired!

Written from a heart of LOVE, PASSION and clear UNDERSTANDING- AMAZING READ!

Out of Africa and into the Cloud is a MUST read for ANY young person ( and old that may have missed their way) to read. This book details Isioma's journey from Nigeria into Accenture and into Cloud technology, as she met and overcame obstacles. She shows you clearly how YOU can succeed, and get to the top of your game in literally any career you wish to pursue. I really loved the point she made about overcoming fear by learning more to grow in confidence, setting goals, achieving them till you get to slam dunk! Lastly, her book will motivate you to not only be and do more but is a call to action for us all to share our journeys and skills with so many people around us, that will become better because of us. Thank you for this work of LOVE!

An inspiring book, a journey from limiting beliefs into the clouds!!!

This book Out of Africa & Into the cloud is amazing read. The story of a woman who debunks the societal myths and norms about technology world, and works against all odds, fear and limiting beliefs and soars into the “cloud” world with many accolades! A good read for all ages, but particularly young girls.

What men can do, women can do it, even better.

This reminds me of my own journey in many ways. I just love to read about people that believe they can do something and actually do it. I love that others can read this story and believe it can also happen to them. Lovely memoir. I highly recommend this book.

Great inspirational read!

Great inspirational story – a perfect match for someone who wants to have a reset in life or career. Great framework laid out by the author in terms of how to embrace the unknown by identifying the bedrock of someone’s fear. Excellent exposure into the culture and proverbs of African continent to some extent as the author has written snippets of her native customs/culture and provided interesting proverbs. The author’s contribution to various initiatives of encouraging young generations to consider coding or STEM related career is very notable as well.

Motivational and inspiring guidance for young women trying to find and spread their wings in tech!

Dr. Idemudia takes us through her remarkable journey as a young woman in West Africa combating societal norms, to the storied halls of Ivy League academia and corporate technology leadership in the USA. Throughout this journey she sprinkles nuggets of wisdom, encouragement and guidance for young women everywhere. For those seeking to find their way. through the many obstacles society and culture often place in their way, this is an excellent read. I am purchasing copies for my daughters who are facing similar challenges.

Know Your Fears and Use Them to Succeed!

I have recently had the pleasure of meeting Isa at a Girls Who Code event. After meeting her, I was excited to read her book and find out more about her. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Isa’s experiences, practical advice and African cultural words of wisdom. I have witnessed first hand how she positively influences and motivates young women to confront their fears and pursue careers in technology. Kudos!

Truthful and inspiring

Having lived and experienced some of the challenges that Dr Isi has written about, I can testify to the accuracies as well as Dr ISI’s tenacity in thriving and adapting. She is a beloved friend and trusted colleague and I can’t be more proud of her success given the challenges and hurdles she has crossed. The book is well written and I trust the future is bright for her as well as all girl coders. Well done Isioma. Well earned and deserved.

Girls Can Code & Lead!

I enjoyed this heartfelt story of overcoming fear, embracing new challenges, and pursuing one’s dreams. I think this is a fantastic book for people in the technology space who want to inspire women to have a more prominent role in STEM careers. It is also a great resource for women in America and abroad who aspire to become leaders in technology. Dr. Isi does a phenomenal job sharing her story and weaving in empowering messages to motivate readers to believe that their dreams can become reality.

Very easy to read and relatable too!

This is an excellent read not only for women but for anyone really who is looking to challenge and improve themselves. As a minority woman in STEM, I have had a few challenges myself and I can totally relate. Isi was down to earth, shared her weaknesses and failures (which most people find hard to do), and allowed the reader to journey with her chapter by chapter. I like her use of relevant proverbs and quotes as these further help to drive home the points she was trying to make. I highly recommend this book!

Insightful and Impactful

Dr. Isi has done it again with this one. This book is such a powerful impactful read from a woman in tech perspective. It builds confidence and tenacity for woman to continue in uncharted territory. Thank you Dr. Isi for being a true example of living your dreams while breaking barriers!

Good book but the graphics are not the best

Good book but the graphics are not the best...not clear. But good quick read

Authentic.. Inspirational..Highly recommended specially for all the women in technology!

"When I lost all my excuses, I found my results"..."I didn't only embraced the change in my career..I embraced the change" - inspiring and transformational book! I'm also in IT and could totally relate with the author's journey, the author shared her journey on her first encounter in the world of technology and succeeding in this industry, which could be challenging earlier because of the male-denominated field. It transformed significantly now as many women like Dr. Isi and more showed in this book.. I also like the chapter when she shared her journey of seeing herself asking the same question like, "I'm from place like this.. and now I accomplish this.." very authentic.. At the end of each chapter, there is a chapter summary which makes it easier to remember what you've read.. Highly recommended specially for all the women in technology!

Inspiring Book

This is a concise, and well written book that lays out an effective course of action. It has become an increasing point of emphasis in our society that not enough women are pursuing careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Dr. Idemudia draws on her own experiences of receiving her education in Nigeria and building a lucrative career in the United States. The book outlines good strategies for effective thinking, and lays out a path to success that is easily adapted to your unique needs.

Girls can CODE!

Dr. Idemudia, PhD. does a great job of describing the life of an IT professional and the fears that girls/women have about the field. She also has a list of references in the back of the book to help girls learn more about the topic. As the Nike commercial says "Just Do It". If you have any interest in STEM go for it. Don't sit on the sidelines and let your fears get the better of you. That is my take away from this book.

Such a Phenomenal book!

Out of Africa & Into The Cloud is a phenomenal book that I am pleased to write a review. Thank you, Dr. Isi, for putting pen to paper to write such an inspirational book for the world to read. You emphasized that we can do more than we can imagine if we only put our minds to it. Your actions outlined in the book encourages women to embrace technology with confidence. I love the way you wrote about several fearless women changing the narrative of women. This book gets a 5 star from me, and I encourage everyone to pick up a copy. It is a must-read if your goal is to perceive and attain the inconceivable.

Inspiring Book by a Great Role Model!

I read this book and immediately ordered a copy for my niece in college. It describes how the author overcame numerous obstacles to chart a successful path in the world of high-technology. Women are under-represented in STEM fields. I am certain that Dr. Isi Idemudia's book will inspire many young women to follow in her footsteps and pursue an exciting career in the tech industry.

Wonderful & Inspirational

A great journey of the life of a young girl in Nigeria who isn't satisfied with fitting into the social mold that has been presented to her, who embarks on an adventure of higher learning and expertise where even few of her male counterparts had dared tread. Dr. Isi truly brings to the reader her grit and determination to succeed in what has historically been a male dominated world--technology. In so doing, she proves that all women can succeed in any area they set their minds to and are determined to succeed. Highly recommend this.

The Dr. is in and she is here to help!

Isi is an amazing woman who has overcome so much to get so far. I am very excited to see her career progress and to know that she is out there helping people all over the world. Isi is a huge inspiration for me and I think you'll see what I mean once you read this book.

Inspiring book

This book has gotten to me in an inspiring way and has opened many memories of studying in Nigeria, and its challenges but still overcoming to make it to the top. It is full of amazing inspirational quotes and honest to do ideas of how to make it in this field drawn from her own success path. It is one of my favorite books and I have connected with the author and writing as if she was talking to me and helping figure out my path in the IT field. I believe her story most of all will be inspiring to young ladies who will be able to connect with the writer and realize they can be successful in the Cloud as well.

What a wonderful and much needed book.

What a wonderful and much needed book! Throughout the book, the author speaks about the obstacles young girls and women are facing when approaching a career that doesn't seem to fit the norm and expectations of our society. This is such a powerful and motivating book, coming from a determined woman that fought her way out of Nigeria to the United States and into a career in technology.

Inspiring and tangible guidance

This short book is inspiring on overcoming obstacles. While the focus is on the computer field for women, these recommendations will apply to anyone who is seeking to overcome fears and society's expectations/limitations. Recommend this book to any young women in high school as she is looking towards her future and how to achieve her dreams.

Great read!

Dr. Isi's book is a story of great achievement - one that showcases a role model for young women with any interest in the STEM field. She provides practical advice on career advancement, finding new oppurtuntities and marketing yourself to showcase the full picture of what you can offer. Reading her book felt like talking to a close and trusted mentor. I look forward to the future work she does for women.

A Fantastic and Inspiring Story

In this book, the author shares her inspiring story of overcoming the odds and gaining her PhD in Technology Management and she provides practical advice for helping others get into tech as well.
