Brutally Honest and Edifying, and Great Recipes to Boot

Wow, what a ripping read. Paul gives us a passenger seat tour along a fascinating and diverse set of experiences, by the end of which it seems he’s almost home. Maybe TS Eliot would say he’s there, who knows. I certainly am not as well read, traveled, or experienced as Paul, at least not in the same way, yet his self discovery edifies and crystallizes my appreciation for wherever the hell I am. Interspersed with his fascinating, brutally honest, captivating soliloquies and streams of thought are numerous terrific recipes for cocktails, none of which I’d ever encountered. Really brilliant syrups and shrubs as well, all neatly demystified and delineated at the end. I’ll be reading this again. Not just for the recipes, either; Paul has laid out something really special, it merits further inspection and introspection.

A Humanizing Look into the Entertainers Life

Spending my high school years around Paul, our paths didn’t cross often, even in a relatively small class size. But I did have the pleasure for a short time my senior year to share the stage with him in the schools rendition of Bye, Bye, Birdie. I had my 4 lines and was doing it for something different to do. I remember thinking to myself “man this would be a fun job” but the practical side of me wouldn’t take that risk. But watching Paul on the stage, I knew he was different. As he admits, he wasn’t the best singer, but he sold the performance. I’ve seen Paul a few times since we graduated, and I always felt our conversations as very genuine with Paul’s attention truly in that moment, even if I was just another small acquaintance in his life story. This book was a great insight to the life, struggles, wins and loses of a lifestyle I didn’t have the juevos to pursue on my own. Paul’s recounting in his unique style showed a human side to the life of a guy I always perceived as full of confidence and direction, but when it came down to it, was just as confused and insecure often times like we all can be. Great job sir on your book. I don’t read much, but I enjoyed my occasional foray into the task with this book. Cheers.

Couldn't put it down!

There are few books that I read in 1 to 2 settings. One-Way was one of those books. It hooked me early on and was a ride through the end. Perroni's writing style was reminiscent to me of Jack Kerouac's On The Road. Spontaneous and funny as hell! There were several laugh out loud moments for me. He takes you on a wild journey with a cast of characters and poignant observations on the human condition as he travels the country from coast to coast. He describes his struggles he went through as an artist to fulfill his dreams, the demons he encountered, and the coping mechanisms he used to suppress negative thoughts that comes with rejection of your craft. You begin to understand the heartbreak and perseverance of a boy from Arkansas trying to make it as an actor and writer while laughing along the way. I can't wait to read more from Paul Perroni. He is a tremendous talent. The bald cocktail recipes and song recommendations were the perfect bonus to a beautifully written book!

A great romp and unique style with all the feels

Paul Perroni’s book is a great romp. In the style of Kerouac with cocktail recipes (non alcoholic) throughout, it's a compelling read and a lot of fun, but also has all the feels. It’s also kind of unlike any narrative style I’ve seen. I think it will resonate with anyone who’s ever chased a dream or dreamed about chasing a dream. If you’re looking for a rambling good-time summer read, pick this up from Amazon.

Want to stop YELLING AT YOUR FRIENDS?

The combination of a stiff drink and a long novel sounds romantic but who has the time or the liver? A novella with bald cocktails, Paul, you beautiful madman, I'm in. I only wish this book came out years ago, it would've kept me in the party, but without so much yelling. Paul is a crisp storyteller with the heart of a poet and the soul of an entertainer. His shrewd use of language grabbed me by the throat and the depth of his insights calmed my soul. Every barkeep from Sam Malone to that creepy-ass ghost in The Shining should keep a copy of "One-Way" next to his muddler and bar spoon. Too drunk to read? Sounds like you need a beverage sans the devil's poison. I recommend: SONGBIRD (page 31) but first, buy a copy of this book, hell, buy five. You, will, love it. P.S. Where the hell do I find Bee Pollen?

Paul is brilliant!!

His writing reminded me of Joan Didion & William Styron! Two of my favorite writers! His velvet description of detail into his experience he has called “life” inspires anyone to live their full truth & know that it’s worth the hard long journey to find that!! I admire his way of bringing humor into dark situations because it alleviates any sympathy to deflect from the message at hand which is “Life is hard on ALL of us but it’s what you do with your broken pieces that matters the most!!” I hope he writes more works because he is inspiring & in my opinion made the world a more “livable” place to reside with his unflinching honesty, integrity, & truth!! God bless Paul!!

Hearkens of Hemingway — A Must Read

Reading Paul’s colorful, candid stories from his travails and victories reminded me of Hemingway’s quote: “the world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.” Paul’s warmth, sincerity, spirit, self-reflection, and relatable sense of humor came alive through his words in One Way. His timeless insights — learned through hard life lessons, joy, and sorrow — speak to us all. Within the span of only a few pages, I was laughing out loud; then soon found myself moved to pangs of sadness. And in an intriguing and delicious way to break things up, the cocktail recipes are on point! As a seasoned military professional and avid reader, this is easily one of my top 10 books for 2020. I highly recommend Paul Perroni’s work, and am cheering him on for the next chapter.

Great writing!

This is a wonderful study of the struggles and richness of the life of the artist. The author gives an honest insight into why we artists choose that lifestyle and as a fellow artist, I really connect with how we go through many struggles and challenges that, many times, kick us down. But, my thought upon reading this book is that we need to stop, take a breath and reflect on how, at the end of the day in retrospect, these challenging life experiences were amazingly rich, full of color, and fulfilling. A great study on the spirit of the artist and human spirit in general. And also very entertaining. Great drink recipes too…

Captivating Storytelling with a Twist

I’ve never met Paul. Maybe I should. His streams of consciousness flow from his pen to tickle the corners of my upturned mouth as they remind me that to just be human IS a beautiful thing. His guttural honesty speaks to a man who recognized early on the reality of that “you only live once” philosophy (I refuse to use the stupid acronym for the sake of maintaining potency) while being man enough to use his rejections, mistakes and defeats as stepping stones. Oh, that we could all take a page from Paul and drop our masks, throw caution to the wind, and give time the middle finger. Well done, sir. Now...let’s drink a page 83 to that please and thank you. Cheers!

I Felt This Story. You Will, Too.

“What an incredible journey, Paul! As a fellow redeemed alcoholic and more importantly, friend, I truly enjoyed walking in your shoes for 147 pages. Seeing you, through your own eyes, brought back many painful memories of myself. The greatest triumph of one’s life is having the ability to tell their story, including their vulnerabilities, their failures, and their broken dreams, yet concluding that story with a breath of overwhelming happiness that the storyteller has found and that the audience can feel. I feel you, Brother, and I’m happy for you. You’ve won in this life. Keep sharing your story. The world needs to hear it.”
