A new mission. An old rival. The powerful secret that binds them.

Since the U.S. collapsed into chaos, Conor Maguire has fought to keep his family and friends safe, turning away attackers who threatened their community, seeking to live off the spoils of theft and murder. Fortunately, Conor is no stranger to fighting. In fact it’s his job. He’s an old-school assassin with an arsenal of wicked tricks up his sleeve.

When Conor is called back to work for the first time since the terror attacks, he learns that business is good. With no media and no law, anyone with a score to settle is working hard to take out their enemies before order is restored. A high-end assassin with an impressive resume can set their own price.

When Conor and his partner reach their target they find that all is not as it seems. One small job, killing a shady financier, quickly becomes something larger. However, this discovery will pale in comparison to the biggest revelation of this mission—a secret that will change Conor’s life forever.

Northern Sun. Franklin Horton

Conor, known as the Mad Mick has teamed up with an old acquaintance, and former partner in the organization he works for. She is a former and very lethal Mossad operative named Shani. They have a deep respect for each other but it's tension riddled. They both are bull headed, stubborn and don't like taking orders from others. They both are leaders, not followers . This being said, they actually work well together. They are on a mission in Michigan to investigate a possible terrorist location and eliminate with extreme prejudice. A few hostages to interrogate on the location of other possible terrorist location in America is also part of their assignment. This is an action packed extremely fast paced read which I enjoyed immensely!! There is also A surprise ending I will not give up! My highest recommendation!!

Full Circle ...... almost

Best Mad Mick of all. If I’m reading Franklin’s thinking correctly, the X-team are going after the same radical Islamic terrorist who created the apocalypse resulting in Borrowed World. Thanks to the author, I was able to read the original chapter 1 in paperback, trying to match names,,,zilch. But this book opens all sorts of possibilities. Maybe Jim & Mick & their clans might meet up one day. If you are already a Horton fan, you’ll love this one, if not, time to get on board. I was hoping you’d get around to the original rag heads that started all this. BTW Franklin, I’ve passed my 3 months suspension from FB, guess Zuckerface has cut me off for good. Great book.

Another hard charging adventure.

I've awaited the next in the Mad Mick series. This one did not disappoint. Charging energy from page one as our hero is embroiled in trying to solve the mystery of who have a part in the destruction of America. His new female partner was a an enhancement to the story line. I would very much like to see a separate novel bringing us up to speed over the past and present with this character. I look forward to seeing much more of Mad Mick.

the Mad Mick carries on breaking anvils

With respect to Mick's exploits back on the homefront, on the outskirts of his stronghold in Jewell Ridge, Virginia, his most thrilling adventure yet takes place when he ventures far from home. Northern Sun is the fourth volume in the Mad Mick saga and the most significant one yet in that it pits our crazy Irish badass against those directly responsible for the terror attacks on U.S. soil. Maybe some plot spoilers. Lest we forget, Conor Maguire used to be (still is) a contractor that conducted wet work for this and that alphabet agency. If anything, TEOTWAWKI only ramped up that shady community's cloak and dagger activities. It was only a matter of time before the Mad Mick got invited into the next batch of dark ops. Actually, it's three missions his handler offers him, and it goes to show how messed up things are in the apocalypse that the currency Conor insists on getting paid with are shipping containers packed with supplies. Northern Sun introduces us to a new character that I hope will stick around a bit. Conor and Shani, an lethal Mossad-trained Israeli operative, are on the outs, not that that stops her from constantly bagging on him. I loved the caustic banter between the two, but also their teamwork when out on the field. While the Mad Mick is more like a wrecking ball, she's got more finesse. Comes from having worked in Intelligence, I reckon. Shani tends to keep black fabric hoods on her person just in case there's a prisoner she may want to interrogate. The Mad Mick, he doesn't take prisoners. "Unrefined, unpolished, and violent." You assume those adjectives were meant for the Mad Mick. But they also apply to his daughter. It's gratifying that we get to see more of Barb than the plot's premise initially implied. I love Barb, and how she has no filter and takes no guff from anyone. Conor actually describes Shani as "like Barb on steroids and with twenty more years of experience." I'm excited for what happens to Barb. Such is Conor's natural knack for mayhem that his mother once said, "Conor Maguire, you could break an anvil." He applies his knack for mayhem at several junctures in the narrative, and those passages make for fantastic reading. I put my money on that this is the most rip-roaring action-packed yarn that Franklin Horton has ever wrote and published. It's the kind of demented story where one person says stuff like "I need to put your testicle back where it belongs," and mean that literally. This is easily my favorite Horton joint.

Horton does it again

I can't wait for the next adventure of Mad Mick and his family. This installment brought a twist I didn't expect, and that's always good. Once again Horton has developed a plot with more twists and turns than a mountain pass.

Positively exceptional!

I have read every post-apoc book Mr. Horton has released, I love every one of them. Much as the Locker Nine series, the Mad Mick features father and daughter action, dad balanced between fear for her safety and realizing the deadly effectiveness of his handiwork and training. This Mad Mick book may be my favorite. It's hard to say, because every book I've read has been a favorite to some degree, but this book has a balance, a polish that makes it a wonderful read. The play of personas and violence is just about perfect. Always exciting because, well, he's the Mad Mick, and excitement follows him, but also exciting to see where each character leads you. This is a must read for anybody who enjoys this genre, and I bet even those who haven't been big post-apoc fans in the past would enjoy it also. This is a truly wonderful book, Mr. Horton. Bravo!

A change of pace.

This book is a little different , as Conor must go on a mission for the ( probably ) CIA group that has provided his mountain refuge and supplies. It shows the writers versatility , attention to detail and character development skills. The storyline expands beyond the region around southern Virginia and begins the plot for vengeance against the terrorists that attacked the too - fragile US power grid by simply blowing up a number of electrical sub - stations all at the same time . Great stories , set in a world that could be made real any day now !

New Blood

This series, which I felt had hit a plateau with the last book, 'Brutal Business', found new life with 'Northern Sun'. Franklin Horton has the ability to keep his books fresh and interesting, never just rewriting the first book over and over again. Highly recommend the book; and really anything written by Franklin Horton. He is way beyond good.

Mad Mic Rides Again

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Mad Mic series. Frank Horton has created a loveable yet irascible character. A former soldier, action hero, father and spy, the Mic flies by the seat of his pants but survives the worst that is thrown at him. Great plots and character development make Frank Horton's books outstanding in their genre and very hard to put down.

Mad Mick back in action and kept me up all night

I think this is the best Mad Mick book yet, and likely is Horton's best book yet among his other series too. The addition of Shani was helpful but I really liked that Barb seemed more normal and not as manic as in a couple of the earlier books. The story is interesting and mostly fast paced. It's nice to see Mick operating outside the mountain community and to learn more backstory on him and his prior life. Seeing behind the curtain of his organization is interesting too. I literally stayed awake until 3:30 am finishing this one. You will love it too !

Another smash hit

Franklin does it again. This the best in the series of Mad Mick so far. With the intro of Shani brings a whole new dimension to this series. What a turn of events. Oh no!! I am not going to give it away you must by this book to find out . TY for writing this one. I cant wait for book 5 in this series.

Awesome book I loved it

Well this was a surprise! Didn’t see any of this Coming! No spoiler alert but just say awesome book that leaves room for. Many more.

A page turner for sure!!!

Once I started reading this storyI couldn’t put it down, with each chapter I had to know what was going to happen and what would the Mad Mick and his new partner do. Very intense. Great story telling, expert knowledge and great characters. I just wish there was more Ragus! LOL

Excellent book!

The Mad Mick continues his adventure with some new companions in this installment of the series. The action starts early and keeps up for the entire book. The tale keeps you glued to the pages and leaves you wanting more as you ride along to watch Conor and his team cut a swath of violence through the people who helped to bring the country to its knees. Definitely a must read.

Franklin Horton does it again!

Once again Franklin Horton knocks one out of the park! I’ve been a fan/reader since his first book. This one is as good as the previous. Without giving away any spoilers, this latest book moves the overall story forward AND expands the characters. Like his previous books, there’s a nice combo of action, tactical info and humor. Great book, looking forward to the next one!

Wow!

Waited for this with excitement and wasn't disappointed. Horton tells a great story. Once again, he drags you in and keeps you there. Lots of unexpected twists, and with the introduction of a new character we find that Mick may not be the cranky old man we've come to know, but may have a soft spot in his heart for more then just Barb.

My favorite Mad Mick book yet

I've read the first four books in order and enjoyed them all but this one surprised me. Not only is the Mad Mick operating again but he's doing it in my backyard. Having him operate literally right down the road from my home on Chequamegon Bay was something special. Between their mission in my neck of the woods in NW Wisconsin and then heading to Table Rock Lake where my wife and I spent our honeymoon, this book was nonstop action I could visualize from cover to cover. Franklin Horton nailed it! Well done sir.

Keeps getting better

This one is a great read. Book #4 does not disappoint. I am wishing another book was already out because I would be reading instead of writing this review. The responsiveness of the characters in this book really starts to draw you just in. Love the new operation and craziness that is going on.

Great book

I handbrake a break from mad Mick to read other series. I'm very soother I came back because this book was amazing. I've had a hard time putting it down. absolutely loved the twists and can't wait to dive into the next one to see where the story goes from here. Fantastic job Mr Horton.

Good Mad Mick

This book is another good episode of Conan the Mad Mick. This time he brings his daughter into the dark side of Special Ops. Of course she fits right in. The only semi bad side to this story.is that the story is very short. Now I can't wait for the next one.

Great Book

Not many doesn't come to love Mad Mick, and this book doesn't disappoint. It even throws in some surprises along the way. Love the building up of old and adding in newer characters so this story can continue. Can't wait to see what's next.

Fine Read...fast paced!😍

Those who have read the prior episodes of the Mad Mick will really get into this telling. Terrorists have wrecked America and now it's Conors turn to compose a proper response. First they need to find someone who might have been involved.

I love Mad Mick

As always an adventure with the Mad Mick is exciting and fast paced with enough humor to make it a truly fun read! I can't give this enough stars!!!! I can't wait to continue my journey with The Mad Mick!

Awesome addition to the Mad Mick Series

Lots of action and characters. Mick goes back to work with an old partner that he is not crazy about . The newest case keeps them running. Mick also receives some shocking news. Love this series

Great story as expected.

Another great story from the Mad Mick branch of the Borrowed world series. The characters are dynamically being developed as the series goes on, and I find the story compelling...as usual.

Outstanding...

I have read many books by this author, and I truly believe this to be one of my favorites. Great story, believable characters, and leaves one longing for the next installment.

Good Read

It was not what I was expecting, but it was still a good read. The author has a way of endearing you to his characters. Love his books and just started another series.

Great addition to the series

Completely enjoyed this installment of the series. I was into and as such I was surprised it was over. I look forward to the next one.

Goid post apocalyptic series.

Enjoy post apocalyptic novels with good character development and a good story lines. this series does that. Read as there is as lot to learn here.

Very interesting view of life after the colapse

The book gives very interesting aspects of life after and the characters are really likable and easy to.cheer on to victory

Amazing story

That's the best one yet. Amazing from beginning to end hope you're able to continue it from there I like where it's going.

Wow

Loved the twist to this story! Its great. Can't wait to see what will happen next.. Hopefully it won't be a long wait!

Best Mad Mick yet

Different story line and left open the door for more. I can’t wait for the next one. It should be just as good.

Mics

Great fun exciting reading I want more more more kept me right in there and it's been awhile since that happened.

Wow!

Franklin Horton has done it yet again. I am so very hooked on this series. I recommend you read the Mad Mick

Fantastic series

This series is a fantastic read. I can hardly wait for the next book to come out. I highly recommend.

Enjoy Reading All of Franklin's Books!

I enjoy reading these books! Franklin is making Good win over Evil! that needs to happen more in these times! I'm ready for the next book!

OH NO!

I know it's my fault but I finished it too fast, now I gota wait for the next one. This series is sooo good.

Fantastic author great story

Another author who writes with the passion. He has several series that run along the same time the same universe. Northern exposure is one book in the Mad Mick series that will keep you switched on. Keep your powder dry.

Action packed as usual

This series is so action packed and spots of humour. It's hard to put down once you start. I usually want to rush forward to get to the next book in a series. But Mad Mick also makes me want to take my time.

Awesome Read....AGAIN!

Best PA series in the market. Just love The Mad Mick and his crazy daughter, what a zany kickass character! Conner and Shani going to become a thing?

Good Continuation

A very good continuation of a well written series

Mad Mick book 4

I really didn't expect the plot twists in this book. Loved the additional character development and the point of views. I would certainly recommend this series to anyone. Good action and anticipation!

A must read

The entire Mad Mick series is a must read!

Awesome!

An awesome continuation of the Mad Mick!

Held my attention,, and that takes a lot

it was hard to put down

Awesome book

Awesome book and series I highly recommend it to everyone and cant wait for more. Rick

Another fantastic read..

Love Franklin Horton’s writing. Without a doubt one of the best survival, adventure fiction writers in the genre. If you haven’t read any of his books, do it now. You won’t regret it.

Great continuation of a good story

Good characters, lots of action told well!

Shock and Awe

This storyline has a great premise and follows up on Locker 9, and Mick. I really love the way you married the stories and introduced new characters. I especially loved the surprise can’t wait to read the next one.

Well written, fun read.

I’ve enjoyed the Mad Mick series. I really like the author and how he writes. Good escapism.

Good Series.

Good Series.

Mad Mick Rules

Mad Mick is amazing

An excellent read!!

Author is an excellent writer, in all his book series. Couldn't put this book down!

Oh please don't be over

I really enjoy reading TEOTWAWKI BOOKS and usually these books come in just a few flavors. There's the advice/training books where the story is used to support what types of survival equipment ...including food storage ,weapons, techniques on building strong holds or gardens etc. Then there are the political books where the story is used to either promote or condemn certain types of governmental processes. ... And then there action books that are character driven and mostly there to entertain the reader with lots ofBOOM..FLASH stuff that is realistic and LOTS OF FUN to read. The Mad Mick series is that kind of books. Really believable characters doing real over the top fighting *on "stuff" that's barely believable but close enough to reality that your more than willing to go along for the ride! And what a ride it is! Thanks for the fun. Please bring the tale back for books 5,6,7'...

Exceptional

I am commenting on the entire series! Well written and thought out. Characters are believable in spite of the usual given “super hero” antics which come with the territory of dystopian novels. All in all a very enjoyable read. Conor, the main character, is bad to the bone but with numerous human flaws and his daughter, Barb, proves the Apple did not fall far from the tree! Lots of action throughout the series with the bad guys who seem to be trying to out do the Devil with their evil. I was hoping that this could go one last book to flesh out the ending of the last one with Conor’s discovery. But, perhaps that is left to us and our imagination!

Like Where the Storyline is Headed

If you're this far into the series, you're already a fan and have a feel for the author's writing style. The book is, as expected, well-edited and picks up nicely where Book 3 ended. Given the time between books, the author does remind the reader of past details (which helps jog the memory but can be a little frustrating at times). Book 4 is a transitional piece to the series as it introduces new characters and places. You have to be a little patient. There are a fair amount of information dumps that distract from the flow of the read but kudos to the author for setting up an expanding storyline. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I double dog dare you to read this. You'll love it or you're wrong.

Woah, didn't see that coming! I have trouble getting creative when I make a sandwich, but Franklin Horton comes up with worlds peopled with characters and action you never see coming.Heck yeah,I'll read the next book, and so will you if you read this one.Unless of course, you don't like it....HAHAHAHAHAAAA,just kidding, you'll like it.Trust me,have I ever lied to you before?okay, that once, but did you see that girl!?

Mad Mick

Spoiler alert. You will love this book. Once you start ....well you won't stop. That's it. I am a history lover which includes reading about the hows and whys of the military- the men, battles, weapons. This series gives me the push that sparks a interest and makes me step out of my box and learn. It makes we want to be better prepared. Work out, garden, the range and learning new skills. Franklin Horton's books do just that. He puts ideas in my head...(which most men already know) and gets me up and signing up for classes to do just that. Being a woman I do like my happily ever. I kept thinking when is Mad Max get 'lucky'? Well, let the foreplay again. Definitely recommend. 5+ stars.

Loved

I loved this book. I love Mad Mick & Barb and how they carry on with each other and also all the other characters. Another great book by Franklin Horton. Can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of Franklin’s books. I listened to this book on Audible and Kevin Pierce is a great narrator.

The fourth title in the Mad Mick series makes you want more

The world first shown in Franklin Horton’ Borrowed World Series has expanded, first with “The Girl FromLocker Nine” and then with the Mad Mick series. In this fourth book we see the world The Mad Mick lived in before the terror attacks crippled American infrastructure. How do you know a book is a good one? Well when you’re sorry you reached “The End” that’s one way. And true to form I am already craving book five! Franklin, get to that keyboard!! We need more Mick!!!!

Mixed results...

Second half of the story saved this book.. Barb is needed and getting the Mad Mick into action is the key. The first half was a Mad Mick being insulted, and being made fun of... Just didn't seem realistic with everything he's been through. He was turned into a fat eating lazy guy. This book felt like two separate books that finally came together. Definitely disappointed after waiting for this book. Gotta get the Mad Mick back into the community.

How dare you?

How dare you write such an engaging book and leave me hanging like this? Where is Book 5?? Get to it, man! You've sucked me in and now I'm having withdrawals waiting for the next episode of Mad Mick mayhem. A bit of a departure from the last three books, but the pace has picked up even more. There's retrospection, there's retribution, and there are twists and turns. Well done.

Disappointed

I have read most of Mr Horton book's I really enjoy his work but Northern Sun is at most half a book. The first half is just filler, boring and drawn out but the second half saves the book from being used in the fireplace. Sorry Mr Horton but this is not your best work.

Exciting

I always worry when you get several books into a series that they will start to seem forced and lack the excitement of the first story. Not so with our Mad Mick. Franklin Horton delivers this episode with the same hurricane-force impact as the first book. Join Mick as he goes after the terrorists that brought the US to the edge.

Old Acquaintances; New Revelations

For those following the somewhat checkered career of The Mad Mick, this is an interesting look into his hinted at past with the Israeli agent Shani. He brings Barb into a job for Ricardo as the 4th on a team that needs to stay small and cohesive --- hey --- we all knew she wasn't going to open a tea room, right?

Read this series!

This series just keeps getting better with each book! Now Barb is in the business and has found her calling. Love the no nonsense about the decisions that the characters make. Love these characters! Great series, can’t wait to see what happens next for the gang.

The best yet!

This is the best of the series yet! WTFranklin???? You better be working on the next one quickly. While I have enjoyed the others in the series, you opened a new dynamic with this one. We want more of the Mad Mick!!!

Action and adventure

Mad Mick has a little help this time fighting terrorists. Only problem with this story as with everything Horton writes is it makes other authors look like wannabes. He is amazing. Waiting now for the next book.

Excellent job with character development

I've read a lot of books over the years and it is refreshing to read an author who is smart and who at times let's you feel like you're part of the story rarely have I laughed out loud reading a book or felt an emotional connection to cuz like I have with this series well done

Horton Hits Another Home Run

Franklin Horton is one of the Authors whose works i eagerly await Of all his series, the Mad Mick spinoff has to be my favorite. All his works capture my full attention but this series pulls out all the stops for me. I highly recommend his works.

Again,and Again,and Again.

Never fails to draw me completely inside. I need The Mac Mick to visit me. Along with the entire crew. I have a few jobs they could do. Will be very interesting to see what comes out of this most recent surprise.

Building a great story

This series gets better and better. The characters evolve and become more and more interesting as the story unwinds. I have only one regret. I have to wait for the next one. Franklin write faster.

Love it.

As always, Franklin rocks it. Action, adventure, a smart-assed Irishman... story is great as are the characters. I’ve enjoyed his other books but the Mad Mick Series is my favorite. Keep it up, dude!

Cliff hanger!

Damned Cliff Hangers! Arrrggghh! The story was exactly what I expected it to be until the end. I'm sure there's a special place in Hell for authors who drop Cliff Hangers on their readers. If not there should be!

Love the Irishman!

Such a cool and captivating series, this installment was another home run! Connor and shani was really unexpected and a very interesting twist! Can’t wait for the next book!

On we go

This was a great installment in The Mad Mick's story. I'm so glad he finally gets off the mountain and gets to do something different. Looking forward to the next one.

Great read

Could not stop reading. Every free moment I had I read it. Non stop action and intense. Love this book and this series. And all the the books Franklin Horton writes.

Great fast read

Book 4 of the Mad Mick Series introduces the reader to more of the Micks covert wofld and fills in more of the storyline. Can't wait for the next book to come out.

Good stuff beginning to end!

The Mad Mick is at it again. Great story development. A new character on the seen spices things up! Really lookin forward to the next book in the series.

Awsome!

Another great addition to the Mad Mick series. The only question is when is Book number 5 coming out! This was an unexpected but great turn in the series.

Great series / please continue

Very good series and characters. Some series BORE me . This one keeps moving and a very good use of my time. Hope there more to come. Thank You

Love Horton

I’ve read all of his series. Fantastic stuff- great plots, imaginative storytelling, great characters. Keep up the good work- looking forward to more!

Another great Mad Mick story.

A “can’t put it down” book!

Yet another awesome and thrilling book. A true barn burner! All I can say is where is Netflix? They could have a real hit tv series on there hands. Until they wise up we have the good fortune to be able to enjoy the amazing work of Mr. Franklin. Loved this book!

Can't wait for the next one.

Well written, I hope there's another adventure with the Mad Mick, Sauni and the rest of the characters. Can't wait.

Five Stars!

Excellent book, fast paced from beginning to end. Horton has a good grasp of tactics. Yes, I recommend this book to everyone.

Another great read in a very entertaining series

Conor McGuire continues to be an amazing character. Franklin Horton has a really entertaining series here. McGuire has a viscous streak a mile wide and I love it when he breaks bad on deserving a$$holes.
