A Poor Review of One Hundred Years
First of all, the book's subtitle is incorrect; it should read "the greatest players of the Super Bowl Era." Of the one hundred players discussed, just one (Night Train Lane) did not play as late as 1966. Apparently the writers never heard of Bronco Nagurski, nor Don Hudson. Sammy Baugh is mentioned, but is not considered one of the greats. Any list of truly "All Time" greats has to have at least a dozen players who played before 1950; there are several more who retired before 1966. The second issue is that of the players listed, more than a third are currently playing. A handful, yes, (Tom Brady, Drew Brees), but Jared Goff? Todd Gurley? At the very least, we need to wait and see. There is no bibliography with this book, making it very unclear how the authors did their research. At a guess, they did not consult much on the early history of the NFL. There is no explanation of the criteria employed to make the selections; perhaps there was nothing more than "players we like." Or "heard of." This is a disappointingly shoddy effort
Great book for the sports history fan
A big book that is great to read or have for a reference on the history of football and it's greatest players.

No heroes in the NFL any more
No heroes in the NFL any more. None.
