Mythical Mermaids - Fantasy Adult Coloring Book (Fantasy Coloring)

“Mythical Mermaids” the latest fantasy coloring book by Selina Fenech. She is one of my favorite fantasy designers and this is my first book by her that is devoted to mermaids (though she does have an earlier coloring book with a similar subject.) The designs are of primarily mermaids though there are some mermen and a man or two who has been saved from a watery grave by a beautiful mermaid. Some of the designs include more than one mermaid but most of them focus on a single beautiful female. Once again with Ms. Fenech's books, I'm really happy that the book contains two of each design because it gives me the opportunity to explore each in different colorways. I generally go towards light and clean looking lines in my coloring but having a second copy of each design gives me an opportunity to try different techniques and darker colors and heavier shading. The mermaids are all gorgeous, of course. There is a hint of nudity but all of the female parts are well covered by hair and whatnot. The mermen are without shirts but that doesn't really matter in any case. There are no children in this book and most of the poses are highly romanticized while stressing the female form of the subject. For my first two projects, I chose to use alcohol-based markers. I have been using pencils to shade but for these two, I tried using my markers for shading as well. I will provide a more detailed description of the physical book below but here is a quick overview of what I found: 25 x 2 Mermaid Fantasy Designs Printed on one side of page Paper is white, thin, slightly rough (tooth) and non-perforated Designs do not merge into the binding and there is plenty of room to remove pages if you wish to do so. Glue Binding Alcohol and water-based markers bleed through the paper (though water-based is more spotty compared to alcohol-based) India ink pens and gel pens leave shadows on color on back of the page. Gel pens left dents on the back of the page. Coloring Pencils work well with this paper. I was able to put down good color, layer, and blend well with both wax and oil based pencils. Hard lead left dents on the back of the page. I recommend a blotter page below your working page to keep ink and dents from marring the page below. The artist has placed a “frame” around the majority of the designs in this coloring book. There are three that do not have the lines but for the most part have finished elements on the outer edges of the design. I really appreciate when an artist includes this thoughtful touch. It makes it easier for me to complete the project with a finished look and saves me time, trouble, and especially ink.

The soft matte card cover is 27.9cm x 21.6cm and the book is 108 pages. The spine is glue bound, and quite pliable after some use. The paper is of moderate thickness and texture. A number of layers are easily achieved on the paper, with both oil and wax based pencils. Waterbased markers shadow, any other wet media will bleed. Make sure to have a few pages of standard paper behind the image to catch any bleedthrough. Images are single sided, and surrounded by a border to prevent the image from entering the spine. The facing page has the name of the image for easy reference to the original. This book contains , 25 different images, each one repeated, for a total of 50 images. Images As the title suggests, this is a book full of mermaids. The artwork has been converted from the original artwork done by Selina Fenech. The art style is consistent throughout the images. The artwork varies quite a bit, with singular mermaids staring through the page, mermaids embracing, spunky mermaids showing attitude, others swimming around a sunken ship. The line thickness is consistently thin throughout, although the artwork is clean and consistent, so it is not difficult to see and interpret the images. Intricacy varies a little, with most images containing smaller detailed areas and some larger areas perfect for blending and shading. Health The natural colour schemes that accompany mermaid/nautical scenes is quite soothing and would be very well suited for times of anxiety or pain, or just a low day. The fantasy theme is one of my favourites when you are in need of distraction, as the imagery and theme is perfect for escapism. Line thickness and intricacy means that those who have vision or fine motor skills impairments may struggle with some of these images, but as always, please do check the images and flipthrough before deciding. I am in my 30's and have always been teased about coloring because I love it so much, but the "adult" coloring books where you color abstract-ish pictures weren't exactly my thing. Honestly, my favorite coloring books were always Disney Princesses coloring books that I would steal from my nieces (shh....). But now I found these beautifully artistic adult-geared coloring books by Selina French and I couldn't be happier! The pages are single paged, also, so you could rip them out and frame them, or use them somehow. The only thing is I would still use a blocker behind the page if you like using markers. There is some bleed-through with markers, but I think that's probably to be expected.

This book was everything I dreamed. The addition of the second set of pages is amazing because I always have so many ideas for the same picture and now I have the opportunity to express that! The only thing I would like to be different, is the thickness of the pages, they are slightly too thin to really be able to use a good set of markers on. Otherwise, great designs!

This is an adult book in the sense that it's a *little* provocative... But the lines are thick like a children's coloring book. I liked what I saw in the photos when I purchase but when I saw it in person nothing was screaming to me.. it's like... Eh. It looked like something I would print out online there was just nothing special about it. The thick lines are what bothers me the most. Even with the best technique it doesn't come out as good as it could be if she had used thinner lines. I also find it annoying that there's 2 copies of each page. I've never wanted to re-color a page even if I messed up. I honestly think they did it just to make the book look thicker and that makes me feel a little bit tricked. The paper used is crap. It even says in the beginning not to use any markers or pens and if you do place a paper underneath for bleeds. I use only gel pens and while it didn't leak through my gel pens didn't react well to the paper. I have the inkiest gel pens ever but with this paper they skipped often. Also wherever I drew it made the paper welt. When your finished with a page you have a piece of paper that's almost crumpled because it's so thin. You draw a line and it leaves a depression no matter how softly you go. The price is good for what it is I'm just more upset that this is called an adult coloring book. The idea here is great, just put it on QUALITY PAPER and use adult technique when drawing the outlines. I seriously believe this was drawn on a computer that I would've used in the 3rd grade. If you have to up the price to make that happen DO IT. Your drawings would be beautiful enough to be made in a quality more expensive coloring book. Right now as it is I would give this only to a 12-15 year old girl. I'm mad that I can't use gel pens without ruining the paper in the process. You pretty much have to use crayons with this and in that case it's for kids. Waste of money.

The Selena Fenech books are hands down my absolute favorite! I'm excited there's a new one out and I have all 5 of the regular ones. I LOVE that the pages all repeat once because of/when I mess up, I usually get so frustrated that I stop, but here, you can start over! BRILLIANT!

I haven't found anything I don't like about he books. She is a wonderful artist and I love that she has two copies of each picture so that I can try different mediums. I have gotten every one of her coloring books that aren't grayscale, they are next. She has just the right amount of detail without overdoing it. I just wish my coloring could do her the justice she deserves.

I really have enjoyed this book. The pictures and nice to look at and easily colored. I have spent hours relaxing and enjoying this book. The thing I dont like about it, is that the pictures are doubled. I would have preferred different pictures to color throughout the whole book.

This book is even better than the first mermaid book in the collection! A great mix of male and female mermaids.

I gave this to a friend as a gift and she loves it. It turns out that she really likes this artist as well so that was a pleasant coincidence. This coloring book is nice because it comes with two of the same image so you can let your imagination go two ways.

beautiful artwork! I'm a huge fan of coloring people ect as an adult its hard to find coloring books that are not flowers and abstract swirls ect. I have already bought 2 more books from selina fenech and i cant wait to color in them too!

As an artist, I'm picky about my coloring books. I am very critical of poorly translated line drawings, and ambiguous marks that don't match up or don't make sense. These books are incredible! Beautiful drawings from a talented artist, and you are actually getting two books from the price of one! Whether you make a mistake, want to try a different color scheme, or just don't want to buy a separate book for your spouse, this book has you covered. I own three from this artist, and will absolutely be buying more.

Got this and another for friend's daughter for birthday gifts. She loves mermaids so this will be perfect. Has repeat designs but that's ok because she can share them with co-workers or friends or try out different color schemes. Nice drawings but not too busy so they're great for killing an hour or two

A must have for all Selina French fans! Romantic and beautiful mermen and maidens surrounded by beautifully rendered sea life. What more can a coloring enthusiast want? Absolutely gorgeous. Love that I can use all of my mediums on this book. Definitely one of my go to books and artists.

I really enjoyed the mermaid coloring book by Selina's Finch. She is my favorite adult coloring book artist I now own several books and have spent hours to myself and with my children coloring these wonderful pictures. I highly recommend for yourself or a gift.

I love this book.... I put a piece of card stock behind the page to prevent any bleeding that may happen. It’s a fun coloring book. Very artistic . Coodos to the artist

Beautiful pictures, the cover feels like velvet, it'll be very relaxing and people are not having "Adult coloring parties," which I may have. The only thing with this artist is that half the book are repeat pictures, as she states, "In case you make a mistake/opps, etc." This particular one for the Godesses does not though.

The illustration is pretty and the ink markers do not bleed through.

My mermaid wife loves this coloring book. She uses it to de-stress and the artwork is beautiful. The paper is high quality and the binding and covers are also great. Good purchase if you're into this sort of thing.

I purchased this coloring book a couple months back and it's almost filled. Having as many coloring books as I do and have been coloring for several years now, this is the only one that I have enjoyed so much that I'm planning on purchasing the rest of her books. Beautiful pictures to color providing hours of enjoyment.

I adore this book!

Some anatomical weirdness in the drawings (usually the hands), and some lines that don't connect or match up correctly in the backgrounds, but still my favorite coloring book artist. The pictures are not too detailed, not too simple.

Good gift for adult mermaid fans.

Selina Fenech is my faverate coloring book artist. This book includes doubles of all the art which I really love.

This was purchased for my nieces, unfortunately I ended up keeping it for myself because some of the drawings are a little too revealing for an 8 and 10 yo. It is okay quality though, a nice time passer if you like nautical or fantasy themed art.

As always Selina Fenech had done an excellent job with this book. I already own all of her books and I just ordered her latest one. I look forward to seeing her latest piece of work, she seems to get better with each book.

Nice variety of pictures without repetition, since most pictures are of Mermaids, and very well drawn.

I really really love this book but I'm finding some anatomical issues that are driving me insane!! A lot of the mermaids have man hands way to large for their bodies and the arm proportions are off. Other than that I really do like this book!

The adult coloring book thing finally got me. I am addicted to this relaxing, and therapeutic craze. I find myself coloring almost every night before I go to bed. You can find these books everywhere now. This coloring book is of much higher quality and is different from any I have seen elsewhere. You get two of every picture that way if you mess up or just want to try two different color schemes or use pen on one and pencil on the other you have options. The pages have beautiful artwork and are a nice change from the adult coloring books I have seen at the drug store. A most impressive collection of coloring pages.

I really like this book. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because on a few of the images the lines of the background go through the mermaid or a line or two is missing. Most aren't that noticeable, but it still bugs me. Besides that, I'm happy with my purchase and love the images in this book.

Love this book! In fact Selina French is my favorite artist. I love all her coloring books but this one in particular is my very favorite. As with all my books there are a couple few pictures I don’t care to much for but this book has by far the least. A little secret about me is that I’m actually a mermaid, at least by heart anyway, so this book was an automatic purchase for me. I fell in love immediately upon opening it. The pictures are printed single sided which is wonderful. I color with glitter gel pens so I don’t have to worry too much about bleed through but I recommend putting a piece of paper behind the page you’re coloring anyway just to be safe and especially if you’re using markers. The images are simple enough to allow me to use gel pens with but not so simple that they are childlike which is wonderful! The pictures are simply stunning!!! The paper is bright and white and thick too and every image is in the book twice in case you make a mistake or want to do it with a different color scheme. These little details are what makes a good coloring book perfect as far as I am concerned. The images are the most important of course and the ones in this book are beyond incredible. Selina’s first mermaid book was my absolute favorite until I discovered this one which is even better!!! If you don’t already have it I strongly recommend also getting her other mermaid coloring book and her fairy ones are great too!!! I can’t say enough good things about this book. All I can say is GET ONE!!!! You won’t regret it!

One of my favorite things to do for relaxation and stress relief is color in adult coloring books. My collection has grown over the past year to include all types of coloring books, from simple to complex. I have always had a fondness for mermaids, so when I saw this mermaid coloring book I knew that I needed to add it to my collection. At first glance, I loved Selina’s artwork. This is my first experience with one of her books, and I was immediately impressed. The mermaids are fantasy and mythical in nature. They are shown in many beautiful scenes – Selina’s imagination and creativity are broad. This coloring book is adult in nature, due to some artistic nudity. Although I typically use markers or gel pens to color, for this book I chose to use colored pencils. This choice wasn’t because of the paper type. I feel like the paper in this book is thick enough to use those other mediums, since the artwork is one-sided and the paper is decently thick. I used colored pencils because I wanted a softer finish to the colors. The paper is bright white, smooth and it was very easy to color with pencils. This book would make a great addition to any adult’s coloring book library, especially someone who enjoys fantasy. This is a very professionally drawn coloring book. I have a ton of coloring books, gel pens, colored pencils and markers. I just can't get enough of this once 'only for children' hobby. It brings back great memories of my childhood, only with adult oriented themes. I like that the paper is a heavier stock then regular paper. The drawings are single sided, so I don't need to worry about losing a design from my markers bleeding to the other side. I noticed that my gel pens and markers do not bleed through at all though, so that's a great thing. Mermaids are a fun and exciting theme and there are even some mermen in there! It's easy to take a page out without ruining the entire book. I take the pages out if I am using markers, but for colored pencils, I am just leaving them in the book. Overall, this is an excellent rendition of drawings and anyone would be pleased to receive it. I received this coloring book at no charge in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

I bought this for my daughter and she has really enjoyed it. You get 25 different images of the mermaids. All of them were very appropriate for her. Some of them are a little bit darker, but they were fine for her. For an adult, these would take 5 to 6 hours to complete each. My daughter did that much more quickly. Each page is I'm slightly heavier weight the normal copy paper. There is no perforation on the page. The image does not bleed into the binding area of the book. It is easy to use different mediums with the product because the back does not have a picture on it. I would not recommend using something wet like watercolors or paints that might bleed through. I was lucky enough to receive this at a reduced price in exchange for an honest review.

I like this book very much. The paper quality is nice. The pages are single sided and do not cross into the binding. This one has some males in it which is nice. Overall, love the artwork.

I felt the pictures were not of a pin up quality as stated in the description, but to be fair I have not seen one of the regular mermaid books yet. I will enjoy coloring the images, even thought some seem unfinished or have odd looking hands.

I LOVE Selena French! I have 3 of her coloring books and this one is my most recent... I carted it for a long long time! If you have it carted and are in the fence, I recommend you buy now and enjoy! Pros: Beautifully Bound, good stick coloring paper, variety of images, online access to print & color. Cons: Hard to get paper out but I use an exact o knife and slice my pages out. If you like to color in the book this shouldn’t be an issue for you.

This is like all her other coloring books, great. This is my 17th coloring book of Selina Fenechs. I'll continue to buy them as long as there as good as the one's I have already. I know they will be or better. She's a great artist can't wait for a new one to come out. You can't go wrong with one of her coloring book's.

A lovely mermaid colouring in book. Super pictures with nice details. The images are printed on one side of the page so even if you are heavy handed with ink then it doesn't matter if it bleeds through. It's a little odd that the pictures are repeated again in the second half of the book, but as the text says it can be nice to try again or do something different the second time. I was a little annoyed at first as it seemed like a cop out from the book manufacturers, but now I've decided to do half in felt tips and half in pencils and it seems like a novel idea.

I wish this was available in grayscale. It is so much nicer instead of line art. Grayscale when not overdone and too dark makes your picture come out so much better.

I adore this book! Each page has a blank back (except for the title of the piece) so it’s perfect for if you want to frame or have your work on the wall. There’s two copies of each colouring page, so if you mess up or simply want to do it again, you can! The art work is so gorgeous too, I’m so happy with it, thank you! :)

beautiful artwork to colour,can make lovely gifts when framed or decor for your home.Very relaxing hobby to do.There are many more books by the artist ,and if you like her you will have many like myself.

Die Motive in diesem Buch sind wirklich wunderschön und auch anspruchsvoll! Das Besondere hieran ist, dass alle 25 Motive 2x vorhanden sind. Das gibt einem die Möglichkeite sie mit verschiedenen Mitteln unterschiedlich zu gestalten. Okay, das könnte man auch einfacher haben, indem man die Motive vorher kopiert. Aber gut: für den Preis sind 25 Motive akzeptabel. Was ich GAR NICHT gut finde, ist die Papierqualität! Ich male mit wirklich hochwertigen Stiften darauf (Faber Castell Polcychromos). Ich tue mich sehr schwer, die Farbe ins Papier einzuarbeiten und zu verblenden. Das Papier ist sehr dünn (wie Druckerpapier) und ziemlich glatt. Hier hätte man etwas hochwertigeres verwenden können.

Nice artwork. There are doubles of each image incase of mistakes,wanting to color differently or for sharing half of the book with someone else. I wish that there were more single images rather than having doubles but that is simply my preference. I prefer to work with felts,pens and water media. Depending on the type of markers & inks I'd recommend laying a piece of paper behind the image being worked on. Paper quality is decent but I wish it was a bit better. Excellent if using pencil crayons though. Overall I like this book and would purchase again.

I LOVE all of the Selina Fenech colouring books (I currently have seven different titles) Her art is amazing and makes other colouring books pale in comparison. I like that there are two copies of each picture (which was clearly indicated in the product description before I bought it) because I like trying different colour schemes with different pictures. I highly recommend her books and even joined her mailing list to keep up to date on new works coming out.

Das Buch ist wie beschrieben, auch wenn ich angst hatte das man die Tinte von den Copic Markern zu sehr Sieht ,durch das Blatt, geht das doch sehr gut. Also klar man sieht durch die Hinterseite die Farbe aber nichts geht ans nächstes Blatt, was mich sehr zufrieden macht. Die Bilder sind von guter Qualität was die Striche angeht mit schöner Strichbreite.

The illustrations are gorgeous, but the paper is terrible for pencil crayons. It doesn’t take on the full colour effect of the pencil so in the end it looks like an amateur coloured it. I used prismacolors for this.

J'adorai les coloriages lorsque j'étais enfant et depuis peu j'ai décidé de m'y remettre, histoire d'oublier un peu le stress de mon métier et de faire entrer un peu de poésie dans ma vie. J'ai craqué sur cet album de Sélina Fenech et je pense que je n'hésiterai pas à en commander un autre tant les dessins sont beaux et agréables à colorier. Points positifs : - Non seulement ces dessins sont superbes mais en plus il n'y a pas trop de parties grisées ou ombrées comme sur certains autres livres de coloriage : cela laisse toute liberté au coloriste pour créer ses propres dégradés. - Chaque dessin est en double exemplaire et il y a 25 dessins différents. - Je colorie au crayons de couleur mais je pense qu'il est possible de le faire également au feutre car les dessins ne sont pas recto-verso. Point négatif : - Je regrette que le papier ne soit pas un peu plus épais. Je vous mets quelques photos en fin de commentaire afin que vous puissiez feuilleter cet album.

Selina Fenech is amazing at creating these books!! I bought 3 different ones and they all blow my mind. I especially love how you get doubles of each picture because if you’re anything like me you have multiple ideas of what colours you want to use.

This is one of my favorite coloring books of all time! Selina is a wonderful artist and I look forward to collecting all of her books!

les dessins a colorier sont très beau, cependant il y en a peu et il est important de signaler que tous les dessins sont en double ! s'est très bien pour les personnes qui veulent tester avec d'autres couleurs par exemple mais on peut trés bien photocopier pour en faire un usage personnel et recommencer. au final s'est frustrant car au vu de l’épaisseur du cahier on s'attend a plus de motif finalement il y en a a peine 10 .....

J'adors Selina Fenech c l'une de mes artiste préférée. Biensur les dessins sont en double mais sa ne me dérange pas si on rate un dessin on peut le refaire ou bien le refaire d'une autre couleurs. Les dessins son magnifique.

Dieses Malbuch hat wunderschöne Bilder in zweifacher Ausführung. Für Jugendliche und Erwachsene, die gerne Malen, sehr zu empfehlen. Sehr liebevoll gestaltete Ausmalbilder.
