Top Notch Book.. Extremely well written how to book..
This without a doubt the best book on all things Muncie related. I have dozens of so called "how to" books that are usually only a bunch of facts thrown together which leave you to try and piece it all together. This book quite well written so that even a modestly skilled mechanic can get a grip on one of the most complicated tasks they may ever have to do. I had some problems with my M20 recently so I started to try and get some experienced info on the internet with very little help. Mostly incorrect and or bad info is out there and this book has already answered a couple of major questions on what parts to order. In my case just because what parts came out of the transmission aren't necessarily right parts in the first place. Earlier replacement parts were put in that were incorrect. I had a non thrust loaded max capacity front input bearing in my M20. The cage had separated which was chewed up and all the balls were loose and even the inner and outer race were cracked. I almost ordered and put in the same non-thrust loaded bearing that was incorrectly put in. This book explained the differences with the styles of bearings and which ones to use for your type of Muncie. The book not only covers how to rebuild and all the correct part # it also has nice section on the history of the Muncie transmission. All the part stampings on the various years so you can figure out what type/year you might have. And oh yeah, one more thing. It even has a great section on how to break down, clean and rebuild your Hurst shifter. I almost never write reviews but this book and guy deserves the good credit here. Can't thank you enough Paul for this great book!! Cheers
I was amazed at the information I have ingested in 10-15 minutes
Wow. I made it through the introduction & the 3rd page of part 1. I was amazed at the information I have ingested in 10-15 minutes. I bought this book to get some general information on something I've never touched before. The Muncie M-21. I have one stuck behind a 350 sitting in a 1970 Chevelle in the garage, sitting next to a 1969 El Camino with a 350 backed by an automatic. I have no idea what the Muncie M-21 has for me, but I know when I pull her out & set her up for a rebuild, I want to have some knowledge background of the tranny so I can communicate with those I choose to do the rebuild. I know what I'm up against as I've already had the El Camino in to 3 different shops for rebuilding, & none of them could handle the task of a 1969 Turbo Hydra-matic 350, which still needs rebuilding today due to a leak. Everyone seems to think they can fix it, but nobody including myself is up to the task. I am doing the learning curve on the Muncie, & am impressed on what I have learned already. There is no doubt in my mind that Paul will be honest & thorough as I all ready get the feeling we are sharing the same values. From what I've read, than you for a great informative book :}
Awsome! Must have! Buy now!
Must have book! Author not only gives a step by step, but also educated you on how to identify parts that are worn that would affect performance... book recomends auto gear parts. They are still in business but you have to order parts on the phone. They delivered quality american and italian made parts for the same price as the chinese knockoffs on the net. Book has good quality photos and is clearly written. Didn't use the high performance sections but read through and they seemed like they were top notch!
All the info you need to rebuild a Muncie is in this book
Very well written and easy to understand, I've never rebuilt a transmission until a couple months ago with the help of this book. I converted/rebuilt a Muncie M20 into a wide ratio M22 for my Chevelle. The book gives lots of good information on all kinds of stuff about Muncies, and the step by step disassembly and reassembly portion is great and has good pictures. If you buy a Muncie rebuild kit online it's plug and play with the help of this book.
Great Book on Muncie Transmissions
Great book. Lots of detail on Muncie transmissions. Great info on different generations as well. Must have book for anyone with a Muncie fitted car whether you work on it yourself or just want to know the details about the transmission. I highly recommend it.

Well written with good points. The only thing I wish it had was alternate descriptions options for reassembly. My front bearing would not just slip fit into the case. I had to use a press. . .and get creative with how to get it in without damaging the bearing. It would be nice of the book had an appending with multiple options for how to perform some of the steps. like. . .one for using a press, one for useing a drift/hammer, one for useing. . . Anayway. . .loved the book.
Beautiful book. Clear
Beautiful book. Clear , concise, with tons of tips learned from years of work. Paul has no problem pointing out some of the garbage information out there. Plus if you have any questions you can post to his Facebook page and the crazy guy will answer (Last time I posted at 10 pm Alaska time, he answered in 30 minutes which would be 3:30 am Jupiter Florida time. ANd the photos are very informative. I was able to rebuild the wifes M-21 in her 1970 Firebird in no time at all (first time even cracking a manual trans open.)
Lots of step by step pictures
Bought this as a download to my iPad. Got it immediately and very handy to use. I checked each stel as I proceeded with the rebuild. If you need it, technical support is just an email or phone call away.
Great Book!
Want to rebuild your Muncie 4 speed transmission? This is the book for you, an absolute must have!
This book is a must have for a gear heads library.
This is a great book about a great transmission. All of Paul's books are practical. If you are a gear head this book is just plain fund to read. You will learn how to work on these transmissions with general tools that you already have in your tool box.

A great and thorough book from a man that knows his stuff. See his videos on Youtube for some more transmission love. I can't get enough!
A welcome addition to my collection.
Good but not quite as good as some of his U-tube stuff. I just wanted a reference because as a DIY guy and I found I was flipping back and forth more than I would have liked as I rebuilt my trans. The part about date and numbers I have to read again as I could not get when mine was built from one reading.
Thumbs up!
Great informative book! Paul did a great job on this book.
My El Camino will have a 4 speed soon.

Well worth the money for any rebuild
Very good book, I bought the electronic copy and used it to rebuild my M21. There is a lot of other useful information in this book too and the pictures alone are worth the price. I used it to walk me through my first transmission rebuild and this book had plenty of details so I feel confident in my end result.
Good Muncie 4-Speed Manual
A detailed assembly manual, with a bunch of handy tips and tricks sprinkled throughout. I lost a previous Haynes manual specific to the Muncie 4-speeds. This is a good substitute.

... a Muncie with this book (his video makes a nice companion source of info)
Any reasonably handy person can rebuild a Muncie with this book (his video makes a nice companion source of info). Obviously skilled at the task, Paul presented the material in a logical sequence from the start of disassembly to the completion of the rebuild. The book itself is also well made with quality paper and excellent color photos. Saved a bunch doing it myself.

Everything u want to know about muncie 4 - speed great book
Ignores Muncie truck transmissions.
Looks very well-written, I guess. Completely ignores the sm420 / sm465 line of Muncie 4-speed transmissions, which GM used well before (1947 vs 1963) the M21 that this book starts with. Have to return it.
