MOMENTARY: The Art of Ilya Kuvshinov

So, I have to just give credit for how much I love the work itself, BUT this was not wrapped in plastic or anything. I mean, is this supposed to be wrapped or no? The book came as is - as a book. The cover was bent and there is a small mark on the spine. The pages inside were completely fine and untouched, but the cover looks otherwise. (The cover is plastic by the way.) I find it difficult to say that this was not delivered in the best quality. All I am wondering now is can I get a replacement?.. I highly suggest covering these books with a plastic to ensure better travel handling. I hope I can get a replacement though because I want to have this book last for as long as I'm alive. (Yeah, it means that much to me.) Anyway, even for those who don't know this artist, this is a great book to buy to study a professional's style and methods from an observational perspective. Aside from all my pickiness, I have to admit to myself that it arrived perfectly on time and is overall perfect. The bends in the cover may be because it may have been in a store or sitting on a shelf where others could browse through it perhaps. I am really happy I got this. Hopefully now that you've read my frustrations of minor details that you won't be as nit-picky as me 😅.

This book of illustrations is absolutely wonderful! It's not large in frame which I find makes it more convenient to haul around. I was so excited when I saw Kushinov's book on the market. I have been one of his patrons on patreon and this book reminds me of why I supported his work in the first place - it captures emotion in such an exquisite manner.

I had ordered the book brand new and to see it be in such poor condition is a big letdown. Overall I'd give the contents of this book 5/5 stars hands down better than I expected but I have to sadly give the condition of the product that I received 1/5 stars.

I cant stress how amazing the images are in this book. My only complaints are the sleeve. Its very slippery and gets in the way. I have no idea why they just didn't produce a better sleeve. But if you remove the sleeve the under cover is rally styled and cool on its own. Its also note worthy the outside is a thin cardboard. So its very flimsy on the outside. Everything else is great though. I like to look through it when listening to music or just to look at the beautifully stylized work.

I bought this as a gift for somebody for Christmas and they absolutely loved it. It came in perfect condition and the illustrations inside were amazing. Although I did see reviews state it was ruined or flimsy upon arrival I did not have any problems with mine. This is a purchase you won’t regret.

Ilya Kuvshinov is still a rising artist, in terms of popularity, but damn, he's already a master in terms of artistry (is that a word?). This book is a proof of his amazing talent, and his even more amazing sense of fusion between japanese pop-art influences, modern framing and classical portrait tradition. Also, i have to take note of the excellence of the book itself. The editing, the composition, the quality of paper, of printing... The artbook is just a damn beautiful object. It could be twice the price it is, it still wouldn't be a steal. I'm in love with it.

Its actually quite a small book, but thats not a big problem. Most of the book focuses on simple portaits, which seem to get a bit more complicated later in the book. There is a small amount of landscape scenes mixed in so that was a bonus.

I had pretty high expectations for this book and let me say I wasn't disappointed one bit! The artwork is absolutely gorgeous and the quality is stunning!! This book is great to look through again and again, but also to learn and study from. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves this artist, or just art in general!

This book is amazing. And for the price I feel guilty. To me it’s worth 100 dollars. Ilya is so inspiring and his work is beautiful. Even if you don’t know his artwork, this collection is beautiful.

I've been following Kuvshinov's works for years and I've always admired his art style. So when I heard he was making a collection of his work, I immediately pre-ordered the book. And it was not a disappointment. I think I really admire his setting pieces the most. All the settings of Japan are brilliantly made. Proud fan and will more then happily purchase any other works he has to offer in the future ♥️

The theme of this art book is "momentary', scenarios and scenes which remember you of how beautiful a second can be when you look for it. Incidentally, the feeling you get when looking through Kuvshinov's art is not momentary at all !

This book is really cute and contains so much art by Ilya Kuvshinov. It's quite a small book, but it has so much beautiful stuff inside. The text sections of the book are also written into Japanese with an English translation next to it. I do really really love this book and I'm so happy I bought it!

Not packaged well at all. They threw it in a folded bubble mailer. There is a small dent on all the bottom pages where the book didn't have enough protection. Very let down by this as I have been excited to own this book. As for the book itself. God it's so beautiful. I love very page. I wish it were a hardcover and perhaps even a bit bigger in size but I will cherish what I have already. Hands down has to be one of my new top 5 favorite art books in my collection.

Fantastic quality, everything was perfect

A big fan of the artist, his illustrations are detailed and presented in a way that makes each one feel as important as the one before. Included are mostly portrait illustrations but there are a fair number of urban landscape pieces included as well. Ilya also includes process images for certain pieces that show his methods for completing his artwork which are very insightful. I do wish that at least some of his pieces included his thought process to give us greater insight into how he accomplishes his works. Titles would also have been nice in order to view more sources of his work. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the purchase and look forward to using it as a source or reference/inspiration

I've been a fan of Ilya Kuvshinov's artwork since I discovered the artist online. Having an art book filled with that work is a treat. I enjoyed leafing through the works as well as the small blurbs from the artist before each section explaining some of his thinking and life experiences that inspired the works. The book is largely portraits, so don't expect a ton of variety, but what's here is well-done and lovely to look at. Definitely recommended for fans of the artist, or anyone who enjoys lovely artwork.

Beautiful! Amazing artwork! It was nice to see the steps/ process to some of the art pieces and sketches that Ilya Kuvshinov drew on the train. Only thing that would make this better is if the artbook was hardcover.

Okay first of all I wasn't expecting to be blown away. I literally felt my heart racing when I pulled the book- which I may add was in an amazing condition (no scratches, folds, etc) - to find myself gasping because of how beautiful this book is. The book had a gorgeous plastic covering which made the cover stood out more. I swear I saw all my aesthetics. I was already all so satisfied with what I saw. And then I flipped to the pages and damm this was quality. The art and it's aesthetics are beautiful, they stood out so much but at the same time matched so well in that book. Honestly I was surprise I got the book at such a beautiful price. You can see the artist progression in their brush preferences as you flip the book and get to their current years of drawing. All in all, this was an amazing buy.

I have been following Ilya for years and I love this collection. I was also happy that they went with a smaller print format since many of the other art books I have are so ginormous they won't fit on a normal bookshelf. My favorite part of the book is towards the end where the subway sketches are included.

Gorgeous book. Despite the anime and manga based style around Ilya's work, the way he uses composition, lighting, and references from life makes his pieces amazing to look at. It is clear that he also has a few signature character of his own that make a few appearances here and there. Do not be fooled! Even this popular growing style can be made beautiful with the right artist. Ilya is definitely a current favorite artist of mine.

If you like this style of art (which you can judge by the cover alone) then you have to have this. I'll be following Mr. Kuvshinov's work from now on too.

What a great first publication from an artist who I've been following for so long. I was very happy to finally be able to support his work directly and get a tangible product in return, and it truly is a great product. One caveat, as mentioned in many other reviews, if you order this book alone Amazon will ship it out in a pitifully flimsy bubble mailer, and it will most likely come slightly banged up (my first copy arrived damage when I ordered a single, and a second copy I ordered with other items came in perfect condition.) I hope Amazon rectifies this issue, but as this review goes up it's unfortunately still an issue on an otherwise great product. The book presents itself very boldly for a softback and features a nice dust cover with the art shown in the description with a different iteration on the drawing underneath. Each picture is so beautifully crafted that I implore you to check it out first hand on their Twitter page. If you like what you see among his hundreds of free photos, there will absolutely be more for you to enjoy inside the book. I found the infrequent but insightful artist notes to be another very nice touch. The variety is great, the print quality is consistent throughout. It makes me happy that this book has gained so much popularity recently, and I wish Ilya a long career in the art industry.

This is my favorite artist. This books is well put together and has chapter pages that have bits of commentary that were about his art journey. I loved it.

The artwork is beautiful, but the packaging is a joke for an art book. Mine came in a minimally padded floppy envelope that was too big for the book which weighs substantially more than most items shipped in such packaging. It was obviously getting shifted around and the entire top right corner was bent through all layers. The cover also had many large scratches on it and the book just did not look new or presentable. This is an art book not a throwaway magazine! Please ship in a cardboard pouch! I have initiated the exchange process. If the replacement doesn't meet my expectations for a mint art book, I will regretfully have to settle for a refund. Review and rating to be updated...

amazing art!

Beautiful book but i find that the artist miss lot of openess, i would have liked to seen more different culture (Indian, Africa etc.), it miss cruelly lot of diversity.... especially when you know that you are supported by many people in the world (Patreon about me)...anyway, i'm disapointed of this miss of diversity, despite all her talent. I'm sorry lol , but in 2017 i find that the artists should be considered everyone because there is not one color but several in the world. Peace & Love Otherwise, great work and keep it going. I've watched Ilya Kuvshinov on Instagram and DeviantArt for a few years now and finally purchased this book. It now rests on my top shelf on desplay next to Loish and Makoto Shinkai's art books, all of which I've read and still look at for inspiration! However, I wish there was a section on how he creates certain drawings as that would be brilliant to read and write about in future studies for my uni course! Aside from that I would still buy it and have even recommend him to fellow friends!

Ilya Kuvshinovs artwork is like getting lost in a sea of faces that you never want to leave. The quality of the book is amazing, and goes great with my *cough* small collection of artbooks. If you've never seen this artists work before, it's 1billion percent worth checking out.

O livro é pequeno em tamanho, seu material tambem é bastante simples, e a capa é solta. Essa falta de qualidade e acabamento é desapontante, os livros da Loish por exemplo, alem de maiores em tamanho, são a mesma faixa de preço, e possuem capa dura com relevo e mesma qualidade nas folhas. Os desenhos ''exclusivos'' são apenas algums rascunhos de quando ele tava na faculdade, novamente, rascunhos limpos, não possui nenhum comentario sobre sua construção, nenhum rascunho realmente em sua forma ''rascunhada'' o que não faz sentindo ja que o interessante de analisar rascunhos dos artistas é ver o desenho em sua forma bruta antes de ser moldado em sua forma final. No final, é um livro bonito, melhor apreciado por casuais e leigos, para artistas você não ta perdendo muita coisa, a qualidade tambem muito subpar visto que tem livros na mesma faixa de preço com melhor acabamento. Se você realmente gosta de estilo anime semi-realista, procure livros do Range Murata, que alem de superior qualidade dos livros, foi um dos primordias artistas desse estilo contemporaneo.

Il mio ragazzo voleva da tempo questo artbook e non appena ho notato la disponibilità su Amazon mi sono fiondata subito a comprarlo. È in formato quadrato, un po' più piccolo di quello cui di solito sono abituata a comprare. Le immagini e la qualità della carta però non tradiscono: se vi siete innamorati dello stile di Ilya difficilmente riuscirete a resistere a comprarlo. All'interno vi è una selezione delle illustrazioni più famose ed originali dell'autore. Se vi piace la sensazione di sfogliare ed osservare immagini su carta, prendetelo senza indugi.

Es un poco mas pequeño de lo que esperaba pero eso no quita que el contenido es hermoso, si eres fan del artista te encantará este libro, algo que me gustó mucho es el tipo de papel es muy bonito y no es brilloso, hace que las ilustraciones se vean todavía mas bonitas.

After I incidentally stumbled upon a self advertisement of Ilya, that his Illustration Book was available in Europe, I immediately opened Amazon and ordered this book. It's full of amazing illustrations that underline his immense dedication to art. I'm super biased, because I just love the style he draws people in. An excellent mixture between realism and Japanese Manga style. What really stuns me the most, is the precise work on the backgrounds and the gorgeous rendering that - on the first look - lets you think, you're looking at a photograph. In my opinion a must have for artists and people in general who like to look at pretty illustrations.

Questo artbook ha varie pagine mozzafiato, il tratto morbido dell'artista si fonde alla perfezione con le moderne tecniche di colorazione giocando con maestria coi colori e le sfumature. Anche le tavole non colorate sono piacevoli da ammirare se non addirittura più belle di quelle a colori perché così si può aspettare meglio la sua bravura. Altamente consigliato!

Un poco chico el libro pero la calidad del autor es increible, casi toda la obra la puedes ver en internet pero no se compara como verla impresa, gran compra!!!!

O livro atende as especificações do anúncio, possui um set de artes do Ilya que é possível ser usado como referência física das artes e esboços do artista, mas nada muito profundo, já que não é a proposta dessa coleção. Não tive visibilidade da logística do produto até o último momento, quando ele já estava em rota de entrega (last-mile), fora que chegou 1 dia útil além da data prevista, péssima experiência de entrega. :/

El libro de Ilya Kuvshinov es precioso, me encanta su formato cuadrado y tiene muchísimas ilustraciones y bocetos del artista. El libro llegó en buen estado, lo único malo es que sí tiene dos pequeñas muescas en la contraportada, cosa que entra dentro de lo normal al ser de tapas blandas.

Consiglio vivamente l'acquisto di questo artbook a tutti gli amanti del genere e dell'artista. Immagini davver suggestive nonostante le dimensioni contenute dell'albo.

L'artbook è arrivato nei tempi e in ottime condizioni. E' ben curato e ricco di contenuti. Lo consiglio vivamente. Seguo l'artista su vari social, e in questo artbook l'autore non mette solo i suoi disegni: mette anche parte di se stesso.

Solo déjame decirte una cosa ¡Compralo ya! el arte de Ilya es excelente, si eres un seguidor de sus ilustraciones esta es la mejor compra que puedes hacer :)

I love this artist and I love this book. It came to me really quickly and in good shape. I can't say anything bad about the shipping or the product itself. I just can say I love it! His art style is worth the money! (on bookstores here it's like 10-20€ more)

Se amate questo genere di illustrazioni lui è tra gli artisti più bravi del momento! I suoi disegni sono semplicemente fantastici, e Momentary è una piccola, ma grande finestra che permette di affacciarsi nella vita e nella grafica di Ilya Kuvshinov. consigliatissimo

Es un excelente libro. Las lustraciones de Ilya son increíbles, algunas tienen su proceso y además al inicio de cada capítulo hay unos pequeños textos donde Ilya te cuenta sobre su trabajo, como comenzó y lo que lo ha influenciado.

Un indispensable para todos los amantes de la ilustración, Ilya es un genio con los contrastes y las luces. Muy contento con el producto.

La verdad siempre había esperado la oportunidad de adquirir el trabajo de Ilya Kuvshinov. Es sin duda el artista que más admiro. Quien opine igual que yo, éste libro tiene que tenerlo, para seguir apoyando al genio de Ilya.

Extremadamente recomendable si eres fan del artista. Cuenta con las obras mas famosas de los últimos años, algunas con pasos del proceso de creación. Ahora solo falta que su autógrafo.

Je ne m'attendais à ce format, carré, environ 21x21cm, mais pkoi pas, c'est original. Quant au contenu, c'est superbe. Il n'y a certes principalement que des visages de filles, quelques panoramas, des sketchs de ses études, mais la maîtrise des couleurs rend tout ça très beau. Aucun regret surtout avec la promo à 19€.

The book seems to be pretty small, but it is absolutely amazing and very nice to grab it and see it. There's no text, just illustrations, and all of them are awesome.
