An insightful read by the New York Times Bestselling author and star of True Crime with Aphrodite Jones.

Michael Jackson was the pop icon the media loved to hate. Tremendously wealthy, inarguably eccentric, and one of the most famous people in the world, Jackson was the unenviable target of constant public humiliation. The media poked fun at his skin, his features, his sexuality, and his lifestyle.

Here, seasoned crime reporter Aphrodite Jones condemns the media for perpetuating hateful rumors and innuendoes, recounting just the sordid details, and reporting only the most despicable accusations and grisly charges made against Michael Jackson during his criminal trial. They had built a highly profitable industry around the superstar's "freaky life" and banked on his conviction.

And, it turns out, they got it all wrong.

In their efforts to make money and win ratings, the media missed the truth. It wasn't until after the "not guilty" verdict that Jones had the insight and courage to admit her own unintentional role in the frenzy surrounding the shocking testimony, high drama, and countless celebrities in Michael Jackson's high-profile criminal trial. Bestselling author and TV host Jones makes amends with what is not only a truthful, well-documented chronicle of the entire trial but a powerful indictment against the media for conspiring to distort, dehumanize, and destroy Michael Jackson. She argues convincingly that the case against Jackson amounted to nothing more than a media-made, tax-paid scandal, and she makes an impassioned call to action for the public-at-large to think critically, question the integrity, and demand the truth in the “news”.

MJ Not Guilty!!!

Thank you for taking the time to reexamine the case to write this book regarding the actual facts. Everyone who has doubts about MJ's innocence must read this book, it's all here in black & white. Even with favorable rulings to the Prosecution, Sneddon lost the case, which should have never been filed in the first place, a grave injustice to the real victims who suffer. And an enormous waste of taxpayer’s money & resources. Sadly, this was instrumental in MJ’s untimely death, which was determined to be a homicide & the man only served 2 years for killing someone who gave so much to so many whiles on this earth. Unforgivable...

Blows the whistle on the vulgar want of journalistic ethics

The author Aphrodite Jones uses "People of the State of California vs Michael Joe Jackson," the 2005 criminal trial of the King of Pop, as a case study to reveal the failure and dereliction of duty by North American media to inform the public of available facts. Whether the reader of this book is a Jackson fan or not a Jackson fan is irrelevant. Whether the reader believes in Jackson's guilt or Jackson's innocence is irrelevant. What, then, is relevant? This book outlines in disturbing detail what the North American public, and possibly the entire world's public, missed in their unfortunate dependence upon North American mainstream reporters for accurate information surrounding Jackson's trial. Cameras were not allowed inside the courtroom, and so the public had to depend upon second, third, and fouth-hand sources to learn about the evidence presented in the case against Jackson, for instance, the bizarre twist that numerous witnesses for the prosecution provided testimony favorable to the defendant--Jackson. However, the reporters who did sit inside the courtroom and had the benefit of first-hand knowledge of evidence and witness testimony refused to report with any degree of accuracy. Why? Since reporters in attendance were unable to control the events inside the courtroom that resulted in Jackson's exoneration and release from custody, these reporters chose instead to control the court of public opinion with propaganda. Rather than deliver a complete, fair, and unbiased presentation on evidence and witness testimony, these reporters saturated news outlets with cherry-picked sound bites that presumed and anticipated Jackson's guilt. Why? Greed. Jackson found guilty and forced into prison due to overwhelming public outcry would have increased television ratings, website hits, and newspaper circulation. Jackson found innocent and released to continue a free life due to the lack of evidence would have resulted in decreased revenue and possibly embarrasing admissions of the vulgar want of ethics in reportage. Facts were made available to the reporters who swarmed the trial. But the reporters decided not to share those facts with the public. To this day, ten years after the event, most of North America's public still do not understand the jury's decision to exonerate Jackson and find him innocent of all ten (10) charges. Even when allowed the option to find Jackson guilty of lesser (misdemeanor) charges, the jury refused and reaffirmed Jackson's complete innocence. The author's provision of selected court transcripts, her willingness to share what she herself observed inside the courtroom, plus her willingness to blow the whistle on discrepancies in the presentations of fellow reporters reveal that, in fact, North America's media betrayed the public's trust. Despite the media's aggressive attempts to force a guilty verdict, twelve representatives of the State of California (and the people) examined the facts, the testimonies, and the evidence from the 1993 allegations as well as the 2003 allegations and concluded that Jackson was innocent. What is the significance of Jones' work? Think very hard about the ugly truth of what Jackson's trial revealed. If mainstream media betrayed the public's trust in their inaccurate coverage of Jackson's trial, in what other arenas has mainstream media betrayed the public's trust with inaccurate coverage? Foreword by Tom Mesereau. Twenty-eight (28) pages of black and white photos.

Aphrodite Jones don't mess around

What can I say? Truly one of the most definite books detailing every aspect and stuff what's going on during the tragedies, scandals, setbacks, coverups and stuff behind the greatest entertainer that ever lived in the planet. Yes folks, i'm talking about the legendary King of Pop, Mr. Michael Jackson (May the Lord bless his soul in Heaven and in Peace). Without going into alot of detail and everything, I dearly suggest those who are reading this and whom loved and understand Michael is deeply give this book a chance. To all the haters and attackers, I hope you clear your mind for a moment and clearly understand the Truth and not for all of the BS. Ms. Jones does an incredible job staying specific and honest with the story without sugarcoating nothing. I truly admired her and just discover her from the TV show True Crime with Aphrodite Jones among other sources. U can't go wrong with this. For your sake, just read the book and hopefully by grace, you'll get a deep understanding and reason why this artist's life and legacy was ended by turmoil, destruction and tragedy.

The Second Time Around.

I enjoyed this tome immensely. The truth is that I have read it twice. The first time was when the book first appeared on the horizon and I just finished reading it for the second time last week. I deeply respect Ms Jones' for her dedication first, as the person she is and second, for using her earthly journey for advancing her viewpoints, creativity and talents. When ever I am privy to observe her discourses, I am always eager to purchase them for my literary library. Many authors write on their interpretation, love and devotion to Michael Jackson. Ms. Jones revealed the truth concerning Michael Jackson's exigencies. This is a book that will remain with me wherever, I live so that, several times, in the future, I will, once again, choose the book for delightful reading.

Michael Jackson in the Crosshairs

A very accurate account of Michael Jackson's 2005 molestation trial. Jones makes you feel like you're sitting in the courtroom. Told from the defense' perspective, Jones uses a lot of actual transcript material. At times the book can become repetitive or stay too long on certain testimony but it is a very vivid account of how the media prejudiced the public against Jackson and gave a scary portrayal of when the courts and especially the prosecution try to bring a false case against an innocent client for obsessive and racial reasons. I think the book will appeal to both Jackson fans and those who are still on the fence as to whether the "King of Pop" was actually a pedophile.

Facts on the trials presented; but I've lowered the rating because of her endorsement on the last page for Taraborelli's book.

The in-depth evidence presented in this book should be read by everyone who cares about Michael Jackson. Then you can boldly defend Michael to anyone who doubts in his innocence. I'm very thankful that Aphrodite Jones took the time and effort to present this material for the general public. However, I wonder why she endorsed "Michael Jackson: The Magic and the Madness" by J. Randy Taraborelli on the last page of her book? On page 500 Taraborelli gives his rendition of the Sheriff Deputies' opening of the MJ vault, which is a complete fabricated account according to the video of the Sheriff Deputies' account. Did she just assume he would write a biography that was objective and based on facts that could be substantiated? Did Tarrabolli write anything that was accurate? Not according to other books I've read on Michael Jackson.

Throwing me off..a little sceptical.

So far this book has really got me not knowing how I feel about not only the book information but also about Michael Jackson. Some of the descriptions of what he had in his home at Neverland really through me off, for example: a picture above his bed of the last supper but he is in the middle and he is surrounded by Abe Lincoln and etc. I will not get into the full description for I don't want to give it all away but if you are in for a book that makes a person seem more creepier than I would of ever thought him to be than you ought to purchase this book and read it. I am only 5 chapters in and I am just stunned over what he was like. As for the charges against him I still am not far enough in the book to make my own decision on guilt or no guilt but these people that claimed he did these things to this little boy are way out there in life too so as I keep reading I am going to also have to consider the author's truthfulness in what she is writing as well. Is this book just another money maker on someone else's lost life or is this putting out the truth about all the facts in the case against Michael Jackson. I just get leery when I read books like this for someone is always out there trying to make money on someone else's misfortunes. So if anyone out there reads this book I would enjoy reading all reviews on everyone else's opinion on this book. Truth or Bull?

Every Michael Jackson fan should have this book!

I purchased this book about a little over a month ago & started reading it, at least 3-4 chapters each day. Although I knew in my heart that Michael Jackson was innocent all along, & read the book online prior to purchasing the book, I wanted to have a copy for myself! I decided to get the ORIGINAL 2007 edition instead of the 2009 re-issued version!! I was completely blown away by it all & couldn't take my eyes off the book when reading it. I honestly just can't believe that my dear Michael was put through such a horrible mess back in 2005. There absolutely should've been NO reason for it whatsoever. It was all because of the GREEDY & I decided to put the word greedy in capital letters because truthfully, that is EXACTLY who the Arvizo family truly are! There just isn't anything else to say about them really when it comes to the matter. They just wanted to take advantage of Michael & all they cared about was the MONEY. Honestly, it made me sick to my stomach that Gavin, whom Michael took in to help with his cancer, would come up with such God-awful accusations/allegations. It's totally MINDBOGGLING! I can't put into words really! I just want to say to Aphrodte Jones, thank you so very much for having the courage to write a book & to have finally opened your eyes, unlike alot of the other people from the media, & to see the actual TRUTH for what it really was/is. And also a big thank you to Michael Jackson's defense attorney Tom Mesereau for writing the forward to the book as well. I have so much respect for the both of them & can't thank them enough! This is the book for every MJ fan to read & also for people who are willing to be open minded about the truth as to what really happened in the courtroom back in 2005!! And the last thing I wish to say: MJ INNOCENT 4EVER!!!!

Astounding

Like another reviewer, I couldn't put the book down either - at least, it was very hard to do whenever I was forced to by other obligations. I received it in the mail on Thursday and finished it last night (that's FAST for me, given everything else I have on my plate). Anyway, this book is amazing - I was quite literally floored by the information it contained as it was stuff I hadn't heard about due to selective (heavily slanted against Jackson) media coverage at the time. I was like a lot of people back then . . . I thought that he might have very well been guilty of the accusations and I remember feeling a bit annoyed that he "got off" when the jury found him not guilty. Well, since then I have realized that my knowledge of all the facts of the case (as well as the 1993 allegations) was sorely lacking and I've done a complete about-face with regard to Michael Jackson. It's clear to me now that the family was a fraud (I do recall feeling a bit skeptical about them at the time but didn't explore those suspicions further) and Michael Jackson was an innocent man who was taken advantage of on numerous occasions. I strongly believe the backstabbing Bashir documentary and the trial afterward had a lot to do with Michael's ultimate demise - and that's a shame, really - because the world has lost a truly wonderful human being. Bravo to Aphrodite Jones, for going against the tide and putting this amazing book out there for us to read.

Comprehensive and Fair Account of the Child Molestation Charges Against Michael Jackson

I have to admit, I was one of those. What I mean by that is that I believed Michael Jackson was guilty of the charges that were brought against him by Gavin Arvizo. I wasn't sure about the first allegation that was brought against him by Jordie Chandler and later settled out of court, but this second time, I was swayed in the direction of thinking he was guilty. What did I have to base my opinion on? Like many people in America - The Bashir documentary. I sat and watched that documentary and thought that Michael Jackson was much stranger than I had ever imagined. When Michael Jackson passed away last year, many people blamed his legal troubles with these two allegations as the reason he died. I believe these allegations and the media nightmare that surrounded both cases, his money troubles, and the downturn of his career were probably the reasons he couldn't sleep at night. They were the reasons he probably numbed himself with drugs. They were the reasons his health took a downturn. Aphrodite Jones was one of those journalists in the media who spoke out against Michael Jackson. She was one of "those". I give her much kudos to come out and write such an honest and heart-felt book about Michael Jackson. She used the actual transcripts from the trial. There is a frankness about the tone that she uses in this book that lets you know she is giving an honest account of what happened without smoke-screens. What was shocking about this case was how crooked and one-sided the media had been throughout, regardless of what had transpired in court. The media wanted to continue along, painting Michael Jackson as a clown who was in a circus side-show instead of ever giving him the benefit of the doubt while they were covering this trial. It is also interesting to note that this book was published in 2007, two years before Michael Jackson's death. It can be said with conviction that, unlike many other biographies that have come out since his death, or the books that WERE written prior to his death and have been since "updated", Aphrodite Jones did not "cash in" on the death of Michael Jackson. I read this book for the first time after Michael's passing, and I just reread it again, shortly after the one-year anniversary of his death. I understand Michael Jackson a lot better now. I always knew he was a talent. I grew up with his music. However, I always felt that his "tabloid image" had overshadowed his career. In Michael's case, I think some of that was his fault, but a good deal of it was the media. This man was taunted and tortured by people who had no clue what kind of person he was. He was used as a money machine by those who he did business with. He was betrayed by employees and handlers, and worst of all, children that he had opened his heart and home to. I sincerely believe that Michael Jackson loved children with his whole being and would never hurt them. I believe he was innocent in many ways, and didn't think as an adult thought about how things looked to the outside "adult" world. I believe that Gavin Arvizo is alive today because of Michael Jackson. This conniving child knew what he was doing with Michael and other celebrities. He was a brat, and his brother, Star, was a brat. His mother, Janet, was a shady nut-job. These people KNEW what they were doing, and Karma is going to come for them one day. I wonder how they live with themselves now that the man that saved Gavin's life is gone? I wonder how Jordie Chandler lives with himself? We know his evil father died of a self-inflicted suicide. Maybe the guilt finally caught up with him. I hope, in the wake of Michael's passing, that more books come out like this. Michael is not here anymore. I know he is now happy and at peace. For the rest of us who are still living, someone needs to be his voice, and hopefully more will speak up. It is time for both Gavin Arvizo and Jodie Chandler to come clean - publicly and officially. It is time to right the wrongs and restore the Michael Jackson Legacy to its original shine.
