Vital to Your Survival.

Metal Gear Solid V is a huge game. It's a very huge game. It's also a game that introduces a lot of new elements for series fans. A strategy guide can come in handy. Piggyback Interactive has made tons of Metal Gear Solid guides and they've all been very helpful. But Metal Gear Solid V is a totally different beast. With how unique it is the focus of a guide might also need a unique focus as well. This is what that guide does. It provides the tools for you. In short, Piggyback Interactive is more about helping you understand Metal Gear Solid V just as much as it is about helping you get through it. This is the most exhaustive and unique Metal Gear Guide I've ever seen. The guide begins with a fairly touching foreward from Hideo Kojima. Seeing as how this may very well be his last Metal Gear game, Kojima lets us know that he gave Metal Gear Solid V his all and that he also wants you to enjoy this particular strategy guide. Once we've gone from this we jump into learning about the basics of the game itself. Even veterans of the Metal Gear Solid saga might want to make a stop here. Things are incredibly different in Metal Gear Solid V and you'd do well to make sure you know how all of its systems work before really diving in. This is all the stuff for beginners, though. Once you learn the basics of the system, the guide has more information you may want to utilize later. We'll get to that. First, the part that most of you are wondering about: The Walkthrough. Is the walkthrough good? Yes, but it also has to take a different approach than most previous guides by Piggyback. In previous games, Metal Gear was particularly... predictable. Not so in this. Thus Piggyback can always tell you what to do and where to go, but it can't always offer up strategies for how to do everything. It can't tell you much about patrol routes or even how many patrols are in an area because Metal Gear Solid V is changing this stuff up constantly. It doesn't mean you can't get help. You can. The guide provides a few basic tips before it actually dives in. It's going to let you know how the guards can change and show you a few "points of interest." Each mission always begins with a few "notes" and addresses your first play through. Each section also has very detailed top down maps. It then utilizes a waypoint system. It'll show point 1 on a map and then you need to find the "1" in the walkthrough and read it. But for those who just want a quick reference, you can just look at certain call outs on the map itself. It also takes some time to map out how you should go about your mission. As I said, though, it can't really show you guard routes or account for certain things like environmental changes or what happens during the night. It can always point out objectives and intel, though. And it's a good thing the guide comes with a huge map of both Afghanistan and Africa. This layout means that each mission it can detail quickly. But whenever new enemies are introduced or there are new boss fights, the guide goes into a lot more depth. It might seem like the walkthrough is flying by, but you'll get quite a bit out of it. You won't always learn patrol routes, but the guide will actually help you out in other ways regarding that. The guide also covers side ops, but not with the same amount of depth. Since the side ops are typically not as long or as important you mostly get a screen shot and the details. The guide and walkthrough are organized the way they are so that it can avoid as many spoilers as possible and so that it can be used more so for a quick reference rather than being used in an in depth way. The guide also has a section dedicated to Mother Base. You'll get a lot of details here. There are maps and information on your entire arsenal here. You can also learn about development and how to manage it too. This section of the guide is valuable because you'll get the most out of development and recruitment this way. Players new to the concept of the mother base should spend time in this section. Probably even more so than the walkthrough at times. In most strategy guides, the walkthrough is the meat and bones. It's the section you buy a guide for. I would argue that in the case of Piggyback Interactive's Metal Gear Solid V guide the reason you should buy it is the analysis and references chapter. The guide cautions against using this section until you've completed 31 missions, but the first couple bits of advice are valuable to beginners and experts alike. In particular, if you want to learn more about how your enemies function and work... this is where you want to go. And believe me, you want to know how your enemies function and work. But you'll get more than that. Here I was able to learn about Metal Gear Solid V's dynamic difficulty and learn more about the response system and how the game changes based on your style of play. All of these things were important to the core experience. How your enemies work is invaluable, though. How far can you enemies see? This section tells you. How about their health levels and various body parts? It's all here. Yeah, the walkthrough can't tell you about patrol routes or anything, but the enemies section can help you understand everything about them to aid you in how you go about it. The guide also details the entire score system to help you get the best rankings on every mission. There are some spoilers in the references and analysis chapters, however. In particular, a certain recruit is detailed in full that might be a spoiler. The guide, of course, has already warned you that there would be some spoilers in this section. You'll also get information on a lot of bosses here as well. This section is here primarily for advanced players of Metal Gear Solid V. In reading this section you already need to understand the basic systems of the game to begin with. The Extras chapter can help you learn some secrets about the game. This is nice, but the real treat in the extras chapter is actually the entire story recap. Piggyback has always done this with their Metal Gear Solid guides going all the way back to Metal Gear Solid 2. And in each new guide they release they always recap the entire story and give an interpretation of the events that have happened. This particular guide opts to cover every last detail you need to know in the story. It'll also do so in chronological order. Meaning it details the events of Snake Eater, Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V before it goes into the plots of Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2 and finally Metal Gear Solid 4. The guide also provides profiles for other characters throughout the saga. If you've gone through the entire saga, this guide will help you begin to make sense of it. The paperback guide ends after you've read the whole synopsis. The collector's edition, guide, however, has an art gallery with commentary by Kojima himself. This alone makes the collector's edition worth a buy. Here you'll get to learn about some of he development of the game and learn about some of the symbolism found in the game itself--directly from Kojima. And it's brilliant looking artwork as well. Most strategy guides tend to be about making sure you get through the game. They have a walkthrough and some secrets but that's about it. Piggyback's Metal Gear Solid V guide, however, is trying to enhance your experience of the game. It provides advanced data on enemies, environments, mother base etc., but give us more by providing a story analysis and some artwork with commentary. For a collector, the guide is worth the purchase because you're getting far more than just a strategy guide. You are getting an analytical tome. This guide will really help you understand this complex game. The most helpful bits aren't even in the walkthrough but rather in all the data which surrounds it. The guide is more about helping players understand the game and its unique systems more so than just getting you through it. This makes the guide helpful to beginners and experts alike. If you want to understand Metal Gear Solid V and still find enjoyment in the game's surprises then this is pretty much the perfect guide.

Something this awesome should cost 5X more than what its sold for.

Awesome. More than a ubiquitous walk through guide, it's a true collectors piece. Hideo participated in the guide's development, including final approval ; plus he wrote the 'forward,' as well as many short texts specific to what "phantom pain" represents conceptually. Includes an abridged version of the entire MGS story w/ timeline Impossible to do an exact walk through with this game - since the missions depend on personal subjectivity - so in lieu there are great tips for every mission to help ensure "S" rank. Overall amazing attention to detail...snake's weapons/tools section is amazing ! Get it!

Absolutely worth it for collectors and casual players alike.

If you've kept up a little bit with the series or you want a history lesson as well as stunning artwork and a TON of help from a book that's thicker than an encyclopedia, buy this book. The lithograph is amazing (complements to Yoji Shinkawa), the 40+ pages if artwork and backstory at the end of the book really display how much love and appreciation was put in to the series from the beginning until now. It's a perfect end to a fantastic series that has left people in awe for years now. I would suggest this book to a collector trying to finish their Metal Gear collection (As am I) or a player that wants the ultimate MGS:V experience with art and detail paid to a phenomenal game series. 10/10

A wonderful guide

These days most gamers use the Internet to get help with a game when they need it. In part, this is due to most video game guide books being nothing more than a straight walk through and written with the least amount of effort required. Not here! This guide is awesome. It has the obviously walk through parts, but it is so much more. It has detailed sections on game mechanics, secrets, weapons, stat charts and base management. I was impressed by the scope and depth contained here. This is the "gold standard" for how to make a game guide. I cannot really add anything new that has not been covered in other reviews of this book. The "most helpful" reviews here are right on the money. This book is well worth what I paid for it. I only wish I had gotten it sooner.

Great guide. Probably the best game guide I've ever ...

Great guide. Probably the best game guide I've ever purchased honestly. Not only are there detailed run throughs of every mission and side-op, but background on the game and its characters not only concerning Metal Gear Solid 5, but the whole series. These sections are extremely well written and will catch anyone unfamiliar with the story of the other games up and spark the appreciation of certain easter eggs and plot unveals in 5 subsequently that could have been confusing otherwise...also helps you understand characters in the game better. I mean this was so cool to me as a Metal Gear fan to have all the games summarized and characters realized just in one section of the guide. It has been a go to for me and is a great summary of all the games and the collective story. Every weapon, trophy, animal and location is recognized in the guide as well. A must own for any Metal Gear fan and anyone that wants to truly conquer this game!

Great guide that really helps with the missions

Spoiler-free review: This is one of the best guides I've seen. I think it stems from the fact that they worked very closely with the KojiPro and it really shows. The maps are marked to make targets easily recognizable, and there are great tips and tricks to accomplish each mission. There book is printed on high-quality paper and contains lots of beautiful renders from the game. There is a ton of information about each character from this game and the series as a whole. Lots of background info and game summaries to make you appreciate the story. This edition comes with a nice print of Big Boss drawn by Yoji Shinkawa and it's just beautiful. The only thing I would change about this guide is the actual cover. Although it looks really nice, I would still prefer an artwork by Shinkawa rather than a 3D render. They have this great artist working on this game that none of the other games do, so you might as well utilize his talent.

Great for a collector and series follower.

With the advent of the internet, no one needs a physical strategy guide anymore, really, but since I "grew up" with the series and knowing this was most likely going to be the final (true) Metal Gear Solid, I felt it was necessary to have. Inside the book, there was a nice Yoji Shinkawa picture of Big Boss, and a detailed map of the Afghanistan, Africa, and MotherBase, a nice item to have. The book is very well done, it looks good, and thumbing through you see the artwork from the series, a nice hard cover with a sort of matte finish with the colors a glossy sheen for contrast. If you're a collector like I am, then this is ideal, otherwise, if you are not remotely hardcore about the series, give it a pass, and use youtube.

Metal Gear Solid 5 collectors strategy guide

I would've liked more original artwork but then again MGS2 and specially MGS4 don't include much as well. The character description, game history is great. I was afraid that it would be identical as the info in MGS4 but it's not. It obviously overlaps but it is not 100% copy paste. The guide itself is detailed due to the games massiveness. What through me off was that there is a "special mission" that was omitted in purpose for the guide. You have to do certain things to unlock it. People buy this guides to get 100% of the game. You don't buy them to later go online and search for classified info. But then again if I hadn't bought the guide I wouldn't know of the existence of the special mission.

For the hard core Metal Gear fan

I maybe be bias as I am a Metal Gear fanboy. That being said if you are a casual fan of the series or just need help getting past certain missions I would suggest the regular guide or looking up an online FAQ. However if you are a Metal Gear fan boy like me this is a must for your collection. The size of this guide alone is impressive. The book is broken up into sections from main mission, side ops, and extras with clear spoilers marked in bright red lettering for those who want to know when to stop reading. One issue to note is the guide does not tell you how to unlock the final secret mission directly but it does provide links and QR codes to scan to find that information later. The hard cover is still semi soft in that the corners can still be bent as mine were crumpled upon shipping but the actual pages and main body of the book were just fine. Highly recommended for hard core Metal Gear fans

A good read for those who wish for more

This guide is so much better collectors edition than the one that I bought when this game was released back in September. This edition offers more tips than the standard guide. I enjoyed getting the signed Lithograph that came with it and even the maps. Even though I had maps that came with the game case these were printed on white background compared to black. However there isn't much difference other than glossy or regular paper. I liked reading the history of Metal Gear. From the beginning and up to the last installment was very interesting I liked how they broke down every gun, item and technique on how to fulton extract someone. But above all else I liked how they would push you to do the mission for yourself then read how to get that ever popular S rank. Even includes Bios of Big Boss, Eva, Sigint, Miller, Ocelot to name a few. Not to mention it includes all major players in this franchise that is worth a read. Like the tips it gives you in regards to motherbase and how to properly keep it running smoothly. Recommend this guide not only to owners of Metal Gear Solid V game but also those who wish to know a little bit more of this very nice and stealthy game.

Your pretty good..... Pretty... Gooood...?!?!

This book is pretty good! However.... I wouldn't waste your money on it unless your a collector like i am, while there is a ton of helpful info in this book and there is some pretty cool art work also, i would say your $ is best spent on something you will really use more then once or twice. Before you assume i don't know what i am talking about, i would like to say i am a mad collector and just as hardcore Metal Gear fan, i play just about every good game out there. I beat every notable MGS game that exist and loved them all, except for this one....

A fantastic guide.

Great guide for anyone who wants in-depth walkthrough of the game while doing all the unlocking and getting S-rank in all missions. It also goes in-depth with the full story of MGS series. Anyone who picked up MGS V as a newcomer would love the guide as it shows tons of contents that are otherwise left unattended or missed out. However the story does leave out one crucial thing: SPOILER BELOW: It does not talk about the unfinished, left-out Final Episode that was meant to be in the game. You have to get the collector's edition to get that extra piece as a "record of what was not finished" OR just watch it on youtube. :D

Totally worth it!

Awesome! This guide is totally worth it. I'm a Metal Gear fan and was hoping to get the MGS:V TPP Collectors Edition with the Bionic Arm Replica. Unfortunately, the price went up and I couldn't. I started playing the game and saw this and thought that it would be a nice addition as a collectors item. I had never bought a Game Guide ever before. I received it when I was around mission 28 of the game. At first I was impressed with the quality. Hardcover really makes it feel like a great quality product. The aesthetic is amazing, goes well with the game's art. How the guide is organized is awesome as you will be able to find what you need easily. One thing I liked is that is not like watching a video on youtube of how to do a mission (duh, obviously), but it gives you suggestions on how to approach different missions and aspects of the game, which help a lot in getting higher ranks and it stills lets you discover what the game has to offer on your own. It's really nice to check a mission on the guide before doing it on the game and visualized how you will play the mission out. It also helps a lot in new game mechanics, as this game brings a lot of things to do out of missions, (i.e. Mother Base, FOBs, etc.). It has maps, pictures, items location, routes suggestions, and many, many things that increase the value of the Guidebook. It also brings some extras on information, and it lets you know when some parts are spoilers for the game. It came with a map, that I really don't care for, but I guess for some it might be interesting and it also brought an art print of Snake, really nice. I really, really recommend this, specially if you're a fan of the series as it will be a great collectors item to have, with tons of information on the game and with a great art and style that really shows the time and effort that was put in doing this. I suggested a friend that he should get it to, and he is more than happy to. Totally worth it! Get the Hardcover.

Invaluable guide for taking on Cipher.

Piggyback really doesn't dissapoint this time as this is very much in the vein of past metal gear guides, with help full maps, tactics to take on missions in a superb fashion on lists on the various mother base parts/weapon development (if a tad sparse on the full details of each upgrade but still enough to make a decent plan) It avoids spoilers (to the point of directing you to the website to download a pdf covering the true final mission. It also goes into the overall timeline and lore of the games much like MGS4's guide did.

A wonderful purchase that enhanced my game play experience.

Really great quality. The guide itself is well written and informative. They are careful to avoid spoilers and warn you not to read past certain parts. The book contains plenty of info for each mission as well as sections on different modes in the game. The Lore and secrets sections that offer a decent amount of information on story and characters. What I really appreciated about the guide was the fact that for certain missions they tell you to just enjoy the mission for what it is and if you have trouble or are going for completion refer back to the guide.

Excellent book

very detailed and precise I would highly recommend this book to anyone with this game it clearly and specifically outlines EVERYTHING you need to know and even goes the extra mile with a rich historical timeline and backstory that ties up nearly every loose end and brings the entire metal gear franchise full circle which goes back to even the original NES Metal Gear game it is a must have for any serious video game lore collector and would be a decent addition to any video game guide library

GET THIS GUIDE!

Amazing guide with gorgeous artwork and detailed walkthroughs, info, maps, etc. Extremely useful for such a massive game that MGSV is. I would recommend it to any serious MGSV fans or those who want the assistance and pleasure of reading this thorough guide. Guide includes tips, hints, helpful strategies for MSGV, and tons and tons of info on missions, side ops, motherbase, ACC, etc. GET THIS GUIDE!

Amazingly high quality for the price

Extremely well made hardcover book, the cover isn't like normal hardcover, it feels rubberized or something, I don't know what it's called, but for the amount of content in this guide, it is an amazing deal. The poster is very high quality and I'm digging the Shinkawa lithograph. Every page has full color and every story mission is explained in high detail. the only problem i have with it is that fingerprints show easily on it, but besides that, the book is perfect, the highest quality game guide I've seen or purchased.

Great book, very detailed

Great book, very detailed, divided to prevent spoilers and includes artwork from the game. The only small detailed I wasn't amazed by was the material of the over, seems like a smooth almost velvety synthetic material that shows grease and fingerprints very easily though it wipes away with a microfiber cloth. Also, the lithograph was great, though not numbered(not sure if that decreases its value) unlike the lithograph included in the deluxe MGS4 guide which was a limited quantity and was numbered. Great item if you're net picky and want to unlock everything and get all the features of the game

Amazing guide

This guide is everything you need if you want to explore every square inch this game has to offer. From collectibles, mission guides (with main and optional objectives), strategies, etc. I was able to get my platinum with this guide only!

A great guide for a great game!

Most guides tell you how to get through a game, This guide does that plus it tells you how to enjoy the game. The guide was put together by people who really understood the game. It is great with avoiding any spoilers, and it has plenty of extra content including a full summary and analysis of the series' story and characters. Thanks to this guide, my 140 hour playthrough was efficient but more importantly enjoyable.

Very In-depth walkthroughs and nicely organized.

The guide is filled with images and very helpful hints. In many walkthroughs of each mission, the book tells you the best way to do the objectives and which objectives you should not worry about until later into the game. The guide is also very organized and if you just need to figure out a certain way to complete an objective, or you want to find out in depth ways to do something, like how to operate motherbase and make the most GMP, then it is very easy to find out how to do these with the guide book. My favourite feature about the book is that toward the back of the book, there is a section dedicated to all of the special and hidden features and cutscenes that one might overlook or not discover while playing through the game on their own. Overall, great book, best guide I have seen for a video game, and definitely the best way to get 100% completion of the game.

Well worth your money.

Awesome! Loaded with information about the game. Can't believe there is this much detail. The quality of the cover to the paper is top notch! Awesome poster and lithograph included!

Georgeous Hardcover Strategy Guide

Everything you would expect from a strategy guide as far as gaining 100% completion. Comes with a ton of extras such as Biographies, Concept art, Story recap, a giant map that is 20 times bigger than the map you get with the Day 1 edition, and a portrait of Big Boss that looks like it was drawn from the artists who drew the cut scene art in MGS Portable Ops. The pages are thick with a glossy finish. My only issue with this is from Amazons Distributers. My front cover looks as if someone placed a filled coffee mug on the book, because there is a giant imprinted ring on Big Bosses face. This won't deter me from rating this a 5 but the warehouses need to be a bit more careful. There are people out there that will cause a stink over something so minuscule so Amazon I hope you're listening!

Awesome product

As a big fan of the Metal Gear Solid Franchise , i had no choice but to buy this book :) , Before buying i recommend checking YouTube reviews to know the exact content of the Book The book came with Shinkawa's artwork as well as the Map poster , HOWEVER although it was described to me as a NEW book ; the hardcover has lots of scratches especially on the back side as shown in my second picture , im fine with it but you may not so had to say this , other than that the book is perfect Delivery was extremely fast Regards

An absolute must have

A must have for anyone wanting to find everything. The detail of the book are so extensive. Worth every penny

The book ignores PC keyboard commands

Just got this book (used) and was very disappointed that the list of key commands does NOT include PC keyboard commands. It only lists the PS3/PS4 and XBox console commands. The game itself has that same issue. I had to find a list of PC commands online at the Steam Community website.

This Book is Solid

If you're a fan of The Phantom Pain, or the Metal Gear series as a whole, you need this book. It's chock full of gameplay tips, stats, excellent art, and even a few potential spoilers (so tread lightly in that regard). For example, I didn't know that you can level up your scrubby Mother Base grunts into super stars by consistently sending them into battle and interacting with them. It's hardcover nature is a huge plus, too; not only does it feels good to hold, but it will likely last for years to come.

Awesome Guide, Great way to learn the back story

I bought this with the game to help me in the times where i could not figure out what to do. It did exactly that and more. It included detailed maps and pages on how to fight the bosses as well as where to find items and collectibles. It also included a comprehensive look into the entire back story of the Metal Gear Franchise (including this game, so be careful of spoilers.) As others have said, it also included a beautiful lithograph from the art of the game. Overall, if you like Collector's guides or guides in general, i would suggest getting a copy of this guide.

Beautiful in design and content

Beautiful in design and content. The only thing that irks me is that they purposefully skip the How-To for Mission 46, telling you to go to another page because of spoilers. That wasn't the problem. The problem was when I went to the designated page and found a notice that stated the publishers preferred they kept it a secret but that there would be updates at the provided website.Of course, the site only leads you to a place where you can order this book... that you already have. But I really am making a big deal about the smallest thing because aside from that, this book is magnificent and I don't regret buying it at all. It even came with a double-sided map that has definitely come in handy (this may have only come with a preorder, but I could be wrong). Definitely worth the buy, and very useful!

Great overall content including high res screenshots

Great overall content including high res screenshots, detailed maps (plus a separated map of the whole game), instructions on hot to build motherbase and how to expand it, and several extras such as the metal gear history, characters' bios and other. Great paper quality (though paperback). Keep in mind that its not a pure step by step walkthrough guide; this is because of the unique gameplay that metal gear 5 provides! A must-have for every metal gear fun!

Very detailed

I normally don't buy strategy guides for games, but Metal Gear Solid V was an exception for me. This guide was worth the price. It's very detailed and has great walkthroughs.

Trivia and Good Manners

Came faster than I expected. I already beat MGSV and got most of the secret bits, but I still wanted this book cause I like strategy guides. Especially since this one has a nice recap and some good artwork and pictures. Merchant sent it in standard boxing and even wrote a little "Thanks! :)" that brightened my day. A good book for those who like strategy guides and little bits of Metal Gear Solid trivia.

This book is awesome. It describes nearly the entire history of all ...

This book is awesome. It describes nearly the entire history of all the main characters, links the other Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid games together and has pretty cool concept art. This book also has a very extensive walk through / strategy guide but I would recommend skipping over that as there are many many spoilers. Overall, a great book.

Offical guide fitting...

It has been quite a while since I last bought any game guide book, so I've no idea how hefty 300+ pages feels like, so I feel lucky that I bought the paperback instead of the hardcover, because the latter would be enough heft to be a CQC weapon I think... Alright, joke aside, now the book itself: It is loaded, fitting to the price it was charged for, with all the information one'd demand for, not just what and how to beat the game, but the extensive background information concerning backstory, so it's a welcome to old MGS fan like myself. To really gripe about, then, would be the pictures and maps are somehow small for comfortable reading, especially when considering a typical gamer's lodge - low light environment, for starters....

Perfect book at great price

Amazing price. Great content for MGSV as well as summaries of the other games and stories. Great making of Spoiler pages to keep you safe from ruining it. Hardcover... really can't go wrong worth this. Great end book for an amazing series. Some nice art thrown in too and quotes from Kojima along the margins in parts. Couldn't be happier with this book. Comes with huge map of game world too.

I mostly got this book because I love Yoji Shinkawa's Metal Gear art and this included about 50 bonus pages of his art. But as a helpful guide, it works really great and if you wanted to, you can see how to get an S rank in all missions.

It provides quite a bit of information, but many ...

It provides quite a bit of information, but many of the proposed "solutions' to each scenario are far from ideal or not very well thought out. Still, the amount of context given will allow you to plan your own more optimized strategy more thoroughly and confidently.

perfect.well worth it

perfect game guide.new in package and plenty of mission advisory information.

If you are on the fence, you should get it.

It's a must have if you plan on spending time with this game. It does a good job without revealing too many spoilers. It allows you to tackle the game, while giving you enough breathing room to explore it on your own. There is also an in depth analysis section which dives into the story and helps to explain some of the more head scratching parts of the game. The book itself is of really nice quality, with each page being high gloss and high dpi. It also comes with a Yoji Shinkawa lithogram that is made of a thicker stock paper and movie sized, double-sided map of the locations of the game.

A must have !

This book is just so loaded with information, that I'm still going through it & I had the book & the game for a few weeks now. You can't go wrong with this purchase. The over 360 pages are just loaded with step by step instructions for the over 200 missions along with maps that just show you the way.

Soviets are a renewable resource!

Great Stuff!, I like the overall aesthetic and it really has changed my life.... Oh who am I kidding.... myself apparently. (Spoilers) Its a hardback strategy guide. Strategy Guide not all that Strategic. I like giant posters of Afghanistan.

A Must Have for any Metal Gear Fan

The book was WAY much than what I would of expected. I was the surprised the book was so huge and I like how they don't spoon feed you the walk through to make it easy, they gave you just the right amount of info and the rest is up to you. I recommend the Hardcover because it is definitely worth the cost.

Kojima's last MGS deserved this book

This is a very complete guide that is very well written. The hardcover version is definitely the one to buy since it's barely over $20. The map is impressive for a folded map with very crisp dpi. Really the best part is the extras and the artwork on the last ~50 pages. Even if you play through the game first without using this it will be great for completion. I am someone that normally never buys a guide for any games (last one I bought before this was from Nintendo Power in the 90s). Worth your money just as a collector's item/art book.

Worthy of Big Boss.

This guide is indispensable! I wanted a way to get quick info for getting specialists in the field, hints when I get stuck, etc. I normally go online for that sort of thing but I didn't want to take any chances of spoilers or spend a lot of time looking around. This guide is beautiful! There is an amazing art gallery and story guide as well, feels like a bonus MGS compendium.

Well Worth It!

As amazing as MGSV is, it can also be very overwhelming in its complexity and amount of options (many of which are barely explained in-game, if at all). I own a lot of game guides; many just serve to further my immersion into the story, but offer obvious info (that could easily be found for free on the internet). THIS GUIDE IS ONE OF THE BEST, MOST ESSENTIAL GAME GUIDES EVER, and worth every cent. I would highly recommend it.

Really nice and stylish guide

Really nice and stylish guide. Shame about Konami killing the third act. Left a huge gap in what could've been the best resolution to a Metal Gear Solid story.

Extremely Useful!

This is a great holiday gift I gave myself, and I honestly wouldn't know what to do without this strategy guide. If you owned the game you will already know as you start playing it that it is extremely difficult to understand any of The content you need to play this game! I'm just so glad because this guide helped a bunch and fortunately it came in precisely it's due time.

awesome

great cover, and overall feel. very detailed

Great for 100% completion

Nice guide. The layout seems pretty good, but it may be better if they could work in the side quests into the main guide so it would be a full and complete walk-though.

I love the book!!!!!

Got my book delivered to me yesterday and it came pretty quick. I love the service. I would definitely recommend everyone to buy. Especially when its the collector's edition of the strategy guide. I ordered it as brand new and that is exactly how i got it. Brand new, still in its shrinkwrap. No dings or anything. Ive gone through a few pages of it and I am already in love with the book! A+ I am an honest reviewer. I do not sugarcoat anything

Simply Beautiful!!

This is a wonderful addition for anyone that loves the MGS series!! For one, this book is THICK, and it has a ton of information in it!! It is very well crafted, with plenty of illustrations and guides to help you master this game! Granted, you can look all of this information up online, but come one, having this book is just something special that a true collector will truly cherish!

Happy!

Looks good, thanks guys!

Metal Gear Strategy guide

Very detailed book

great companion

This is a great addition to MGSV. A big reason why is we didnt get an artbook in the west with our collector editions. I highly recommend this to anyone who felt left out in that aspect. I didnt really use the actual guide much aside from some S ranking tips, but from what i did use it for, its excellent. I mostly got it as a collector item and couldnt be more happy with it. Comes with a giant useful map as well! Double the size of the one that comes with game and had useful item locations on it. Buy it now rather than later!

A must Buy for MGS5 Players!!!

Excellent product, I haven't bought strategy guides for games in a while but this guide is a MUST buy for MGS5. Gives great detail on the game and extra content and step by step approach to each mission and side missions. Also gives you story info on the MG and MGS history incase you need understanding on what's happening and how the stories are all connected. I recommend anybody playing MGS5 to definitely pick up this strategy guide.

Five Stars

Its a good guide, I got rated S on all my missions using this guide and youtube as well.

Wonderful Read & Beautiful Artwork

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain hard-cover guide is a beautiful, useful and insightful book. Even if I didn't have the game, the book is just a wonderful read and has beautiful artwork. Actually I think that many years down the line when I no longer play the game, I will still have the book around...

Quite a good book. For someone who likes to be able ...

Quite a good book. For someone who likes to be able to reach for a reference when things get confusing, this is a great resource. It doesn't make spoilers easy to find and it gives you a decent idea of what needs to happen without ruining the surprise. A note is that the book does not include everything at the request of Konami, that being said, the publisher does provide updates to the book via their website.

You need this to know your options within the game.

Extremely useful. Not only because it's an open world game but because there's multiple options on how to beat a boss or a mission in general. Helps a lot with the numerous tasks within one mission too. You need this! The book itself is really nice. Goes great along with the collectors edition of the game.

Best in the Buis....

Amazing book with everything you need. This guild had all the gear, missions, side ops, mother base managing, MB developing, and much more. Multiple strategys for each mission including optional objectives and S rank details for each and every mission. Other great things are lots of art work and sketches in traditional MGS sketch form. Also lots of lore and back story, character details and stats. I could go on and on. This book has it all. Even if you don't think you need a strategy guide you want this book. It has tons to offer a MGS fan other than explaining missions. There's tons of lore, art, and back story reading that I plan to just read this thing cover to cover. Great buy. I'd have paid $50 for this guide.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes MGS V TPP series.

This book is so helpful in every way wasn't expecting it to be so well compact... Be warned though it has lots of spoilers if u care about not knowing whats gonna happen next. Basics and secrets also easter eggs in this book. Every obective is revealed and shown for the missions and side ops also lot more is being told to you so go buy this book its what your gonna need to get started in MGS V.

Well written, well-organized, and helpful - and very mindful of "spoiler" material

This game guide is really great. It's detailed, it's helpful, and it doesn't spoil the game. If you're into MGSV (it's a great game, and has a ton going on), and want to make sure that you're getting the most out of the game, I'd recommend it. One caution: the information on the MGS Online is pretty limited.

Five Stars

good

For the competitionist in all of us!

Very in depth and thorough guide. Tells you everything (and more) of what you'd need to know. Professionally laid out; easy to follow.

Must Buy

This is so elaborate and original. It is artistic as it is informative for playing the game. The book is hard cover and the pages are heavy color copy pages with vibrant pictures and text. I recommend player of MGS5 to purchase versus the paper back.

MGSV strategy guide

A must buy for the hardcore MGS fans or anyone looking for tips to get 100 percent completion on the game with artworks from Yoji Shinkawa and a cool mini poster.

This a great guide for any Metal Gear Solid fan

There is a little bit of information not included in this collector's edition, but the publisher has pointed out that the information can be found on their website in the near future. This a great guide for any Metal Gear Solid fan.

and had some really good insight on most levels

I was a small child when my village was raided by soldiers. Foreign soldiers. They saw this book and left me be, stating that the "Dushman" would come and get them if they abducted me. Guide was thorough in it's plans, and had some really good insight on most levels.

A beautiful and well presented book

Fantastic for trophies and seeking out rare items

Fantastic for trophies and seeking out rare items. Usually I don't do physical guides, but this one was a great buy.

Love the book it's got everything u need to know. If u can realize that online is almost the same way. It's lacking details of. But it's kinda self explainitory playin online. Especially when u have! Played the game since day one

Amazing guide!

Absolutely love this guide. Packed full of information and extremely useful.

Great addition to the collection

Maps, location of items, strategies on the levels and the boss varying from different difficulties. This guide has it all,I'm glad I was able to buy it. Helped out a bunch, also like the nice artwork inside the guide.

Different Kind of Guide

Bought as a gift, giftee is pleased. It seems the game learns your playing style and changes over repeated replays so there isn't a true walk-through in this book but it appears to cover everything you need to know.

Amazing cover art and detail

Amazing cover art and detail. Book is very helpful and provides a ton of clues, also is a great piece on the coffee table.

It's missing a few things but otherwise not bad if you don't have access to the internet.

Don't buy elsewhere prices are marked up! Amazon rules.

This book is beautiful inside and out. Definitely worth the money! Amazon is the best priced around so if you're thinking of buying this one... Buy it here!

This book is for you if you are a fan.

I didn't actually use the book as a guide, even though it seems very capable. If you are a fan of the series this is what you will love. It has the complete story and great are work.

BUY THIS

You like Metal Gear Solid? See this hardcover collectors book right here? Buy it. Even if you don't need a guide or beat the game. It beautifully archives the MG/MGS time lines/story and you get a cool lithograph and HUGE map.

Great for collections or just for plain reading!

This book was expertly written, with much attention to detail. The hardcover is a must as non-hardcover books tend to bend and fold rather easily. As such it's most definitely worth some of your hard earned money! There is so much content that you would have a hard time being let down by this book.

Has a lot of useful info in it

Has a lot of useful info in it. I recommend this only after you've beaten the game first and then go about finding everything with this guide.

... Kojima and MGS series as we knew it would love this. It's more a collectors item

Every major fan of Hideo Kojima and MGS series as we knew it would love this. It's more a collectors item, but the guide does give you helpful info, especially if you're trying to get all S scores.

Five Stars

This strategy guide will get you laid. Seriously. That's how well put together it is.

Must own for MGS fans

I'm a major MGS fan and don't usually use guides but I had to buy this just to own it because it looked so awesome, for those not familiar with the story of MGS it even comes with a history of previous games in the back along with some great artwork

The guide was a great purchase. Like guides for certain games one played as a kid, this is a collectible in addition to being a guidebook.

This is an excellent guide for completing mgsv tpp with 100%

This is an excellent guide for completing mgsv tpp with 100%. I finished the game on my ps3 and now have to start over for my ps4. This makes it easier to get all the little things that I missed and it comes with a more detailed map than what came with the game. I'm glad I have it now.

If you plan to get serious about MGS5 then you must buy this...

If you plan to really conquer the game, every aspect of it, you will need this book. It will save you time and give you info and insight that you just cannot get without a lot of wasted time. The game is awesome and worth playing. I suggest that everyone playing MGS5 should buy this.

Excellent mammoth of a strategy guide that breaks down ever mission to help attain S rank and provides an easy to follow history lesson detailing the series. Well worth the price as the book holds up well and is durable so you can enjoy it for years to come.

What a bargain for a great book.

Bought this for about $22 bucks. What a bargain for a great book.

Very good but not perfect

I purchased more for the art and the story details. The actual guide portion can sometimes be vague (run away to not be seen). Overall I love it if only because of the fill in on characters.

the layout is easy to follow this guide definitely felt like it was ...

A book about a Hideo Kojima Game. But really, the writing is well done, the layout is easy to follow this guide definitely felt like it was worthy of a collector's edition moniker.

Looks great and the information is good, but the maps don't really help at all.

Like the game, fantastic, but not perfect

Some ending spoilers purposely omitted only to be written later in the book in a different section that tells the history of the mg timeline. Side ops very vague. Still great, artwork and insight more than I expected, hardcover presentation fantastic.

great quality.

It helps a lot! great quality.

It's an awesome guide to the lore of a great (multi-game) story

!V! - Why are you reading a review on this? You need this. Not because you need a strategy guide to play a game (I didn't open this until I finished the main story). It's an awesome guide to the lore of a great (multi-game) story, and just fun to read.

Beautiful design. Only problem is there are certain things that Konami (go figure that they screw something up) wouldn't let them put in the game guide.

An Excellent Guide for the MGS Faithful

This is a fairly decent guide, though I'd hardly call it a necessity. It has all of the basic information in the game, though I'll admit that it wasn't the easiest to navigate, and I'd often find the information way quicker on the magical interwebz. I'd recommend it, because it's a good little encyclopedia, despite it's navigational issues (which I find a common issue in many strategy guides these days), and the collectors edition is an extremely nice addition to my guide collection. Real talk, though, unless your a MGS mega-fan, I think it's fairly passable. If you want the guide, it's totally worth it, but if you don't and are only looking to get it because you think it will help you in the game, skip it. There are wikis and YouTube videos out there for every situation or question you might have regarding this game. Most of them are easier to navigate, and some of them are more informational than this guide, frankly. If you, like me, consider the MGS franchise as one of your favorite video game series, however, this guide is worth every cent just for the extras. I'd recommend the guide, but only for the fans; not for the casual.

What a great book! Excellent product!

Good strategy guide

Really does have everything. Only problem i had was i felt like on certain missions, the walkthroughs weren't helpful.
