MARINES: VIETNAM WAR (Illustrated History of the Vietnam War)

I have purchased two of these books before and this one is smaller in size; has a cheap plastic Marine Corps emblem (original were metal); and a cloth cover. Agree it is a shame that they are printed in China; but didn't expect them to start putting out something that I would be embarrassed to give as a gift to my Marine brothers.

This book was bought as a gift to a friend and fellow Marine. Being purchased used was just a little apprehensive but it was exactly as the seller described, in excellent shape.and clean without any tears or markings on the pages. I would definitely purchase from this seller again.

I ordered this book for my husband's birthday this coming October. It is absolutely a beautiful book. The pictures alone are worth getting it and if you know someone who is a Marine, I suggest ordering this. A great keepsake for any Marine. Semper Fi!

Despite an aching back, I stood for over an hour this afternoon thumbing through the pages of this book at a local bookstore. It was outstanding. I was a Marine combat correspondent in Vietnam ('67) and saw a number of photos taken by my colleagues, including David Douglas Duncan in Con Thien where I also was. What struck me about "Marines" is the extensive and well balance coverage of the history of the Corps. I found it very amusing the "political correct" comments about several of our controversal commandants. How true. How true. Great work. I came home and immediately ordered this book from Amazon. Semper Fi!

The info in the book is spectacular but the book was not wrapped in bubble wrap or had any stuffing in the box. When i opened the box the beutiful edges wear distroid but the rest of the book is nice and i like it. Gonna fix the edges with brass edged tips it should be alright.

A huge book in size, and in context. Plenty of photographs makes Marines a collector's item. The Marines are undeniably the best of the best when it comes to risking their lives for this great country, and the story of the Corps is nothing short of extraordinary, and breathtaking. 5 Stars.

This book is beautiful. Very heavy and detailed. My Grandson has joined the Marines and was very happy with this book.

I ordered this book for my Husband as a Christmas gift. They said this book was like new. They are wrong I was better than new. Not a torn page, I believe never opened and read. It was beyond what I expected. I would recommend this Seller to anyone.

This is an amazing book worth giving any Marine or former Marine or any of those many people who are interested in the story of the United States Marines. On top of the navy blue canvas cover features the ornate United States Marine Seal that buldges up in its nooks and crannies and has the feel of a metal that provides this feeling of pride for the Marines and ownership of the history of such a exceptional military institution. However the good stuff is inside with informative information of the Marines from beginning of their formation to what is expected of them in the 21st century and its tied in with a multitude of pictures in which most I never seen before (despite me being military enthusiast) that explains the text perfectly and will wow you.

I purchased this book for my husband, for our anniversary. He had, many times, picked up this book at our local bookstore and thumbed through it. The book drew numerous smiles and comments from him. "Hey hun, look at this.." became the regular statement made, while browsing through the pages. Not only did the book offer a throrough history of the Corps, but it brought back endless memories for him. I've enjoyed this just as much as he has! The book is a beautiful presentation of history, wonderful photos, artwork and facts. We've had the book quite some time, and he's still admiring it, learning new things from it..... still smiling as he "looks" through it! In effect, what I have is a Dashing Grunt, who's so happy you'd think it was November 10th. :-) A great book for all.

This is a wonderful book on the Marines. Mainly a historical/traditions book. If you want technical information, get something like Tom Clancy's "Marine". Either way, this book is great. Overall, it is my favorite Marine Corps book. Tons of incredible pictures. Has chapters on history, today and tomorrow's Corps, even a chapter on dress blues. If you are or were a Marine, or just love the Marine Corps, you have to get it. You won't be disappointed.

As the proud mother of Two of The Few, I'm unashamedy too "moto" for Things Marine. The first time I saw this book, I had to have it. From the beautiful cover with its USMC Seal to every single bit of information inside, it is a fitting tribute to our country's BEST - United States Marines. Chesty Puller himself would give it a gruff "Good To Go!" I cannot find a single aspect of this book I don't like. For proud parents of Devil Dogs especially, I highly recommend this book!

The book can look very promising to you. And it is. It offers a great amount of history and vividly describes the structure of the Marines. However, the book isn't very much a manual as it is a set of chronicles. I recommend it to any with an interest in the Marines or military overall.

My son is very proud of being a 3rd generation Marine. My husband received this book as a gift years ago, and I thought our son would enjoy it also. He was thrilled. He and his wife have spent hours reading and discussing the Marine Corps. Highly recommend it for any one in the United States Marine Corps.
