A Powerful Story of How to Successfully Heal from Rejection. A MUST READ!
It has been a long time since I read a book that I didn’t want to put down. Mama Didn’t Raise This Woman did just that. The way the book is written, you feel like you’re a part of the journey not just reading about the journey. Njeri masterfully invites her readers into her truth and trusts us with it as we laugh, cry, and get angry right along with her. If you don’t know Njeri and Team Maldonado personally you’ll feel like you do once you’re done. (I’m trying to figure out how I can meet Dad and Tootie in person!) She tackles a topic that is almost never discussed, absentee mothers, in such a vulnerable and transparent manner that you can’t help but be proud of her. This is a must read for anyone who’s ever experienced rejection and needs inspiration for how to heal and succeed inspire of it all.
Don't miss out on this awesome read!!!
WOWZA!!! This amazing piece of work was SO well written! I LOVED the title of each chapter, my eyes ENJOYED the font size, the weight of the paper allowed me to turn each page with EASE and the FLOW from chapter to chapter was out of this world. This was such an easy read and I didn't want to put the book down. In my older years, I haven't read books often and the times that I have, it was rough. I didn't understand what was going on and had to re-read paragraphs or sentences several times to "get it". No problem like that here!!! Even if I stopped mid-chapter, I was able to pick up the next sentence as if I never stopped. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I'm sure your testimony will help others who are currently or have struggled in the past with cases similar to yours. We appreciate you!!!
Respectable, Beautiful, Life.
I gladly walked along this journey with a Njeri. This trail was a page turner and so recognizable. I appreciate her honest openness as a member of this tribe. We are still, women, regardless. Thank you Njeri! Fantastic life synopsis! Here’s to your 40 and mine coming up!
A heart-breaking and heart-warming tale
If you have had mother issues, read this book. If you haven’t had mother issues, read this book. We can all learn something from this very personal story of an accomplished young lady. Once again it proves the old adage that you never know what others may be going through so don’t make assumptions. Congratulations to this beautiful author for being brave enough to share her life. Great Book...finished it in 2 days!
This book was recommended by a Soror whom thought I might be related to the author. I enjoyed the read. NOLA BORN Maldonado.
Outstanding book. Very Inspirational.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It took me one week to finish the book. It was very courageous of Njeri to share her story with the public. She didn't let what she has been through in her life stop her from achieving her personal and professional goals (becoming a Lawyer & a Judge). Reading this book inspires me to write my own book. One day I will write my own book. Very Inspirational. Outstanding book.
A Page-turner on dealing with Adversity!
What a page-turner! Very well written and relatable even of your mom did raise you. This book touches upon topics that so many have faced. I found it to be truly cathartic and highly recommend it if you're looking for a real story of dealing with adversity!
You won’t want to put it down.
Beautifully written. Njeri is a visual story teller. She is truly amazing for sharing her truth and her story. It’s touching and poignant. Thank you for sharing your life story.
Best Book I've Read in a While
This book was a page turner for me. The author writes her experience so raw and authentic. You end up feeling like you know the characters in her life at the end of the book. It's an inspirational story of perseverance in the face of serious challenge for a young woman growing up.

That her circumstances didn't determine who she was or who she came to be.
That through all of her obstacles she eventually learned from them. There wasn't anything that I did not like. It's someone's story.
GREAT AND EASY READ!
Great story and well written! Definitely keeps the reader wanting more. The story flows really well with great details! Very easy to get lost in the story. I thoroughly enjoyed Momma Didn't Raise This Woman! Job well done Mrs. Maldonado!
Great read!
This book was very well written. Interesting content. While reading I didn't want to put it down. I would definitely recommend reading this book especially to anyone who grew up without a mother.
A Must Read!!
I could not stop reading! Njeri describes her experiences so vividly that you felt like you were there growing up with her! Amazing book! I usually don’t leave reviews but I had to let everyone know about this book.
A great read
I love it great book!!
Great read
A triumph story
To all those "Stonefaced Warriors"
I feel like I just lived another woman's life while reading this book. What a great read! I was touched by the honesty, the acceptance of self and others' failures, and the forgiveness. I think it would be hard to portray almost everything you are in one novel, I think she did a fantastic job. It was a page turner where I really wanted to know what happened to each character. A few editing errors, but they didn't take away from the story. I recommend this read to all as there is a family dynamic described in this book I have never really thought about or comprehened. Everyone has there own struggles and sometimes we don't see them on the surface because of stonefaced warriors.
Great read; inspirational story
Here’s mine 💭 I literally did not put it down until I finished. The story is intriguing and the book is well written. Each chapter flowed seamlessly to the next. When I was done I wanted to know more like what happens to Tootie(a story that continues to evolve no doubt). Also I was inspired to continue to strive to be a better mom. It was definitely a different perspective that needs to be told. So thank you Njeri for sharing your story with the world. I hope to see it on the big screen one day. Maybe Tyler Perry can produce it. Y’all have that NOLA/ATL communality going on 🤗. Just my ✌🏽 cents
Thank you🙏🏾
This was an enlightening reading experience. It's refreshing to see how a woman was able to turn a negative situation into a positive one. The relationships between mothers and daughters is on that is not always fair but Naj, at a young age and with an amazing dad and support system, navigated through with life lessons learned along the way.
VERY GOOD READ
Wow! I'm so proud of Njeri, I hated she had to have an absentee mother. although we are daddies girls we still need our mother for girly advice from the time were young into adulthood and so on. glad she is successful, has a good husband, & beautiful kids. pulling for tootie! Kim R. Cleveland ,Oh
Open. Raw. Necessary.
Join Njeri as she takes you along on a trip through her childood into adult life. Witness her navigating this period without positive input, love, and guidance from her mother. She bravely shared her story and it's one that can be used to encourage others who might have experienced similar situations.
Incredibly Written
I was completely taken aback by this incredible story of bravery, accomplishment and Triumph. It is remarkable how Maldonado painted such a vivid picture of her life struggles from a motherless childhood to becoming an attorney and judge. Such great accomplishments
Thank you!
It's comforting to find another person in the world that has experienced so many of the same things I have! This book gives me hope and inspiration to do better and turn this pain into productive behavior.
SHE ROCKS!!! Mother, Judge, Mentor, Friend, Sister, Wife and still more to come.
I love how the book reads as if I am listening to her tell the story of her life and how she got to where she is today. I have the great pleasure of working with Njeri and she is one of the funniest, intelligent, kindest, down to earth person. She has truly encouraged me and help me to understand that my feelings are valid and I can not be ok sometimes and actually say it. Love Love Love Love it!!!!
