This book bridged the gap between the USA and Soviet Union in 1991
Tchaikovsky loved the serenity of the lake within Novodevichy Park in Moscow. It inspired him to write the ballet Swan Lake. On it's shores in 1991, while President George H.W. Bush and PresidentMichail Gorbachev were in discussions, Barbara Barbara Bush gave the bronze figures from Make Way For Ducklings. The inscription said it was given in friendship to the children of The Soviet Union from the children of the United States of America. Thanks to the duckling diplomacy between Mrs. Bush and Raisa Gorbachev, the ice was broken between the two countries. President Bush was able to negotiate The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaties limiting the long range nuclear weapons between the two countries.
Make Way for Ducklings
I have a young niece who is a reluctant reader. For a Christmas gift last year, she received a book each month from Librarian Aunt Donna. I chose Caldecott Medal winners. She loved every book I sent to her and really got into them. She want's me to send her more. That reluctant reader is learning the joy of reading and being introduced to some wonderful books.
Beautiful Story
A delightful introduction to duck behavior from egg to adult. Anyone who lives in or wants to visit Boston will appreciate the 1940s vision of ducks living between the Charles River and the Boston Public Gardens. McCloskey was an author/illustrator who brought a special gentleness and humor to his work for children. Every child and parent should read his books again and again: Make Way For Ducklings, Blueberries for Sal, A Time of Wonder, One Morning in Maine, are books that build appreciation for nature and human relationships. I had a bizarre experience of driving in northeastern Massachusetts one summer day when I had to stop on a road near a lake to let a family of ducks cross. Of course, I thought of Make Way for Ducklings. That is not all that unusual where ducks spend their summers. What happened next was that NPR sadly announced the death of Robert McCloskey. I am not superstitious, however that was one amazing, touching coincidence.
Enchanting and Enchanted
"Make Way for Ducklings" should be gifted to every baby by its fairy godparents. I remember having it read to me when I was little and the clothes & cars of the illustrations were contemporary. I read it to my sons, who loved the story of Mr and Mrs Mallard---that careful and competent mother of eight---and the compassionate policemen who stopped traffic right by the Boston Commons. I ordered a copy from Amazon a few weeks ago for my great-granddaughter, loving it just as much as ever. Why does the book---the story and the illustrations---hold up so well over so many years and generations? The story tells of a kindly world, such as would make a child feel secure, warm, and happy: the loving parent ducks, the island in the lake of the great park where the swanboats still glide, and the police who care enough about little ones to stop traffic so Mrs Duck can lead her small family across the streets and into their new home in the park. The story tells also about a city, Boston, with the old squares, the state house, details from which the reader can take off with more stories for the little ones nestled close. And the illustrations in brown crayon (I think) are magical, individuating the ducklings, catching the quirkiness of the good citizens of Boston, bringing to our today the life of one spring day long long ago. May you and your next generations delight in "Make Way for Ducklings" too!
Make way for ducklings
This story brings back happy memories with my great grandfather and reading this story to him, over and over and over again... he was so patient and kind. The story is fun and my grandson is going to love it. I purchased the hard back - as all books should be in my opinion. Can't wait.

Classic book! We moved to Boston and it was a fun search to go find the duckling statues in the Common. I had to explain a couple of things to my kiddos, as time and technology have made so many things obsolete. But it's a cute story and a family favorite.
Absolutely marvelous from a teacher for 45 years.
I ordered this best selling book for my great granddaughter, Harper Rae who was born to my granddaughter Lizzie four years ago. I wanted her to have this classic in her reading library throughout her growing up years. Hopefully, she will treasure it and share with her children. I also purchased a second book for a future great grandchild, (hopefully to be born to my grandson, Michael and his wife) when the time comes, if I am no longer here. Throughout my 45 years of teaching, all of my classes enjoyed hearing and reading this wonderful book, as did I.
Boston visit must
Bought this since we were taking our 20mo to Boston he was so excited and loved the police man in the book. That was a few months ago and he still remembers the places we visited that were mentioned in the book and talks fondly of the police man (we did end up seeing one in the public garden)... You would never know this book was about ducks if you got my sons synopsis.
This book was a favorite classic from my childhood
I'm 58 and fondly remember growing up in Mass and going to Boston Common to ride swan boats and feed ducks every summer. I have continued this tradition with my daughter every year when we visit as part of our ritual. This book was a favorite classic from my childhood, was given to my daughter as a gift when she was a baby. We continue to pass along this classic to friends as a baby gift.
Wonderful book for all ages
Everyone should read this book especially if you visit Boston and the Boston Public Garden. Ride the duck boats, see the duck sculpture! Great gift for a child with a trip to the gardens.

Great book for youngsters
Beautiful hard cover book - a children’s classic.! Hopefully people visit the beautiful sculptures of the duck family when they visit Boston — my daughter, 3 at the time, insisted n having her picture taken with each duck as she recited their name!
Delightful book for all kids
I grew up near Boston and as kids, we rode on the swan boats in Boston Gardens, so this book is perfect for us! However, it's probably a fun book for any little ones who might like ducklings (all kids, probably) and it's enough of a story so that it's enjoyable for adults to read to the kids they love!
Love.
This book is awesome and I am so glad I bought it for my nephew. Everyone should have an appreciation for ducks. The beautiful illustrations and lovely story line are unforgettable. Note, the illustrations are monochrome, with is less exciting to some children who prefer colors, but the artwork is stunning and inspiring to anyone who can appreciate it. My little nephew and niece love this book.
A classic
A classic and a beloved children's story. Beautiful illustrations. My parents got it for me; we got it for our kids. This one goes to our grand children.
Make way for Ducklings
Make Way for Ducklings is a must have for children and parents alike. What a nice bed time story! The hard cover book/ paper is of excellent quality very much like the original. This book has become a family tradition - we are working on the third generation of Duckling readers. It is sweet without being syrupy , insightful, teaches children to respect/protect other life forms and even though it plays out against a dated urban background - children can still relate.
Ordered as a Baby Shower Gift
Ordered as part of a baby shower gift. Mom-to-be loved it. A must have for any children’s library. Especially if you have connections to Boston.
Perfect Baby Gift
I grew up near Boston. I love giving this book to new babies, for parents read to them. It is a big book, so it is easy for parents to hold and read. It is perfect for a baby shower or new baby book. A classic.
Love this book
One of my all time favorite books, so much so I bought the for my granddaughter. She loves it too
Excellent children's book
I have purchased this before as it is such a great book for children. It is still relevant today even though it was written in 1942.
Great classic
Great classic to add to a child’s library.
INCLUDES ALL the SOUNDS in the ENGLISH LANGUAGE
I bought this book because the story includes every sound in the English language,* which makes it a good resource for struggling or new readers; it is geared for students around the 3rd or 4th grade. Because it is written in the 50's, some of the wording may not be as familiar to day's audience; however, the sentences are short and easy to decipher with a little help. *This fact is according to the 'BOOK IT' reading program literature/website.
Loved It As A Kid
I loved this book as a kid for its storyline and beautiful drawings so I decided to add it to my personal library. Now I have it to read to a child, or to help a child learn to read.
Darling Book
I bought this very sweet story to read to my two young grandsons. Be aware that the pictures are all in black in white, but I still think it will become one of their favorites!
Great Story
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was purchased for my soon-to-arrive granddaughter and recommended by a friend living in Boston. If you are from Boston or visit regularly you probably know all about this book. It takes place in a park in Boston that you can visit. There's a sculpture of the mother duck and her ducklings inside the park. The book teaches a nice lesson to children about being compassionate towards animals and it's a very cute story. Highly recommend it.
Classic for every kid’s library
I love this book. It’s so cute and if you live in the northeast US, you can even visit the “real” ducklings. All his books are wonderful and I recommend them all.
Bold and Beautiful Book!!
Such an awesome Book!! Was pleased it was the large version of the book. The price was simply amazing!! Such a great book! Very fast shipping!!
Still the best book ever!
This story has caught the hearts and minds of people for many generations.

Cute story
Endearing story. The book quality and delivery condition was perfect.
Wonderful Book
We had just been to Boston Public Gardens and seen the Ducklings sculpture. The book was perfect for us as we had been to every location mentioned in the book. It was great to read it to our granddaughter and show her recent pictures of where the ducklings in the story had been.

Another Robert McClosky classic from years ago that holds up well today. It's always a good idea to expose children to timeless stories and excellent illustrations. A Caldecott Medal winner (most distinguished picture book for children), this story is one that needs to be shared (or kept on hand for grandchildren's visits!).
Third generation reading this wonderful book.
I got this book for my granddaughter. She's a little old for it (6), but she loves it, just as I loved it when my parents bought it for me. And as my son loved it when I bought it for him.
Wonderful story and illustrations
Every child should hear and see this wonderful classic book.
A must for those who love Boston
Super cute book for kids about boston. I love it, my daughter loves it, and my son will love it too when he is older. If you love Boston and have kids, you need this book. EVEN if you DON'T have kids, I think you will love this book
A timeless classic
I wanted to get my grandson a book I always enjoyed when I was little. I found this an knew he had to have it. A great story with illustrations.
Excellent book!
I purchased this for my cousin when she had her baby. It is such a timeless classic. Every child should have this book!
great sotry!
Great story, especially if you are from Boston Massachusetts. This book is the tall version. Rather large book 14"x8" perhaps? A good classic read for all ages.
Ducky Book
A larger book than I expected, which is fine. I purchased it for my granddaughter for when we go to the park where these ducks are bronzed in Boston
Classic Book
Make Way for Ducklings is a great baby gift. It is a classic book that is a wonderful addition to a child’s library. When visiting Boston, parents can take their children to the Boston Public Garden to see where the ducklings lived and to see the bronze duckling replicas.
I remember this as a child, and it is still terrific for children!
Lovely story of how the weaker creatures overcame adversity.
Available
Grew up with this book lost in many moves and now I want my granddaughter to have it
A very favorite book that has been a part of my childhood ...
A very favorite book that has been a part of my childhood as well as those of my children and grandchildren. It is always my first choice for a new baby gift. If you have never read it yourself or to a child, I heartily recommend that you start now!
Favorite Christmas book for 3-1/2 year old
This was a huge hit with our grand-daughter. She loved counting the eggs and then the ducklings whenever they appeared. One page (in the hardcover edition, at least) has a duckling hidden in the center crease, and she was very upset until we found it. Now she shows her reader where the "lost" duckling is. Every time. LOL! A lovely book, just as wonderful as I remembered.
Classic story still entertains!
This is an all time favorite children's story for both myself and my kids. I wasn't sure they would enjoy the story and pencil illustrations as they are more "vintage" and don't have the snazzy appeal of modern books but my kids were easily captivated by the story and the drawings. A great classic to keep in your library.
A classic for kids
Got this for a niece. I loved reading it to my daughter. I have geese in my back yard each spring having babies. I get to watch them walking in a line just like this. As the babies get older they walk across to the front of the house and cross the street to go to the pond next door. The cars all stop for them. Just like the book.
Timeless
Just a beautiful book for children. Written years ago and still relevant today.
Cute, clean, no bent pages!
Great little book! Loved having an option for paperback :) Made a great gift!
Love this book
Absolutely great book for kids. Love reading it to my niece and nephew
Love this book
Perfect book for a baby shower. It is a classic and all children should here the story and see the detailed drawings in the book.
Classic Stories
Wonderful classic story! Don't let your children miss this one!
Children’s books
I had this book as a child and read it to my children. When I was asked to bring a book to a baby shower, it’s the first book that I thought about.
Great Gift for Children!
This is classic literature and a wonderful choice for children in grades 4K - 2. Parents should be sure their kids are familiar with the classic children's books that are well written and beautifully illustrated. Robert McCloskey is an outstanding author and illustrator.
A classic
never get old...a great and timeless story
Wonderful classic book
Bought a wonderful well loved book for my great granddaughter. Reading it brought back memories of my kids when they were small
Remember
Excellent book for kids. My grandkids are 4 and 7 and just love it when I read it to them.
Worth it!
Darling book. We love it!
This was my all-time favorite book as a child
This was my all-time favorite book as a child. When I saw it on Amazon, I bought it for my 4-year-old nephew. We had seen a little family of ducks when I took him out on the golf course, so he was particularly interested in this book. He liked it so much he brought it for reading time at his school!
I grew up in Boston. This is special to me. Now I share it with my granddaughters.
Love it!
Great read: 3 year old loved it
I absolutely love this book and so does my 3 year old son. We actually went to Boston and saw the ducks and rode on the Swan boats. He was so excited. This book is a very accurate depiction of the Boston Public Garden.
Utterly Charming
Make Way For Ducklings is a springtime classic. The timeless tale of Mr and Mrs Mallard as they attempt to find a safe place to lay their eggs and spend the winter is a delightful romp through Boston proper with sweet illustrations and gentle humor. Duck lovers young and old will be enchanted by this classic childhood tale.
You will enjoy reading it to your child, every time!
Beautiful classic children's story, which I give to every child in my family and in my circle of friends.
Great classic
One of the great classics based on a true incident and nice ‘guide book’ to Boston.
Classic Childrens Tale
This is a classic children's story that takes place in Boston. Drawings are superb in a nice brown. I should note that the book is quite large in size making it easy for little readers. It was also much cheaper here on Amazon than at the tourist shops around town.
Childhood Favorite!
Boston Pride --- Love this story and can't wait to share it with my kids! Beautiful illustration and story. I contacted Amazon about it arriving with a damaged cover -- the box must've been lying somewhere damp between the warehouse and my house (it wasn't rainy the day it arrived) and it arrived all scrunched from being wet. I never got a response from Amazon! Disappointed in customer service.
Wonderful Children's Book
Perfect book for a gift. Fast delivery.
Great Boston classic read
Purchased this book to give to a child who came to visit Boston for a brief time. The book has always been a favorite of mine and it’s the perfect book to share the fun of Boston wi visitors
An all time favorite!
We read this classic to our children and now our grandchildren. What a great story! What fabulous illustrations! Everything about this book is just about perfect!
Books are the best gifts you can give a baby
Buy it. It’s a classic. Books are the best gifts you can give a baby. Spending time reading to them is the best thing you can do for a baby.
Their mother loved the book
This the Boston-based children's classic I gave to my grandniece & nephew for Christmas. Their mother loved the book, and the kids seemed to be loving the pictures too even before hearing the story. We've promised to show them the sculptures the next time they come to visit us.
Sweet!
Really good book for reading aloud to students. My first-graders enjoyed listening.
Make Way For Ducklings
I bought the hard cover version of this book when I visited Boston. My son had loved this when he was small - we used to get the book with cassette from the library. I was thrilled to be able to get the soft cover version from you for my granddaughter, who turned two on September 23. I hope she will love it as much as her daddy did.
Great for children and young readers
Great children’s book and early reader. Amazing illustrations!!
A classic children's book beautifuly presented!
This is such a classic children's book. I grew up in Massachusetts, so everyone I knew read it since the story takes place in Boston, but every child will enjoy it no matter where they're from. This edition is beautifully presented; it's a large, hardcover edition that is well bound with excellent prints of the original illustrations. It's a great book that my mother, myself, and my nephew all read growing up.
A great story
My children have loved the story since they were small. It's old-fashioned now, but they like to see life in the past. My son is 10 and loves it for the excellence of the illustrations. A winner.
A wonderful, old story to share with a new generation
This was my favorite book as a child and now I share it as a shower/baby gift for a new generation.
excellent condition
Granddaughters Christmas theme was Duckies, this book added joy to the day. Seller was prompt and price was right
Make way for ducklings!
A classic I had as a child. I had to make sure my granddaughters had a copy to enjoy this lovely story of caring enough to wait for mama duck and her ducklings to cross safely. Every child should have this book in their library.
same book
Bought the book for grandkids and has the traditional story. Good that the paperback is not rediced size version. Great story for kids
Greasy book at a great price
This was my favorite book as a child. Recently I attended a baby shower that requested instead of cards to bring a book sign with a note to the new baby. I knew right away this is the book I wanted to bring, and this was the best price I've ever seen it.
Lovely book
Love this book. Bought it for my 5 year old, who also loved it. Can't wait to take him to Boston to see the statues!
A must have in your collection or children’s library
Love classic stories with great illustrations. If you don’t have this book you’re missing out. You will love it and so will the kids.
It is a classic for a reason.
It's a lovely timeless book.
It was my favorite book to read to my children 25 years ago
I purchased this copy for my niece who is soon to have her first child. It was my favorite book to read to my children 25 years ago. Reading it again prior to giving the book to my niece brought tears to my eyes. It's the right choice!
A must
The best book
Make Way for Duckings
It is cute and fun chidlren's book. When I went to Boston with my friend, she took me to Public Garden to show me around based on the book. I enjoyed everything on the story and came to love it. I will take another my friend next time to the garden with the book to talk about.
Must have children's book
Now that I'm becoming a grandma, I'm thrilled to gift this timeless classic to my grandbaby!
A Great Book!
I haven't actually read this book in many years but it was a favorite of mine as a child. I remember my mother reading it to me night after night after night and then taking a trip into Boston to see all of the places mentioned. It's a great story and the illustrations are beautiful. I now use it as a gift for new moms to read to their children.
Cute
Cute story.
The story of how an entire city stops to care for a Mama duck and her babies
This is a wonderfully illustrated story of a Mama Duck in the city of Boston who stops traffic as she seeks to take her babies across the street to the park. It is masterfully written by the author Robert McCloskey (read another book of McCloskye's, Homer Price).
Great children's book!
Love this book ! Our children had it - now we bought one for our grandchild!
Every child should have this book
This is wonderful story that every child can understand. My children are long grown, but everyone of my grandchildren and nieces/nephews has a copy. All of Robert McCloskey's children's books are wonderful!
Hasn't lost its charm
This was one of my favorite books as a child and I was so pleased to find it for my granddaughter. We really enjoy reading it together.
A classic if you live or did live in the Boston area

All About Boston
I recently visited Boston for the first time and just had to buy this book for my granddaughter. The book is a classic and I am sure she will enjoy it. Perhaps after reading Make Way For Ducklings, she will want to visit this lovely city.
A sweet story
I remember reading this book when I was in kindergarten. Now I have two children who I get to enjoy rereading this book with! It's especially sweet now that we live nearby and can visit the Public Garden in Boston and see the very place the story was set.
I have always loved this book
I have always loved this book! It's such a wonderful classic children's story and a Caldecott winner! I gave it as a baby gift.
A classic in children’s literature.
It’s the same book that I had as a child over 60 years ago. It’s a classic and I am glad I can pass it down to my grandchildren.

A real classic.
What's not to like? Got this as a birthday present for a toddler (to be read TO the toddler). If you are familiar with the area described in the book, it will bring back some great memories.
Bronze sculpture of Mrs. Mallard and her 7 ducklings in the Boston Common
"Make way for Ducklings" is a classic children's book. I read it to my children and now our great granddaughter will have the book read to her. If anyone is ever in Boston they would be happy to see the bronze sculpture of Mrs. Mallard and her seven ducklings in the Boston Common.
One of the Children’s Greats!
One of the Great Classic children’s books. Makes a great present from Grandparents.
RE: LOVE!
This is my daughter's favorite book- she asks me to read it every day, and sometimes more than once. The brown ink illustrations are a joy to look at and the story is beyond sweet. It's not cartoon-y at all- so completely endearing!!
Beautiful book and extremely great price for the quality
Beautiful book and extremely great price for the quality. This was my first book as a child and although the setup is a little different than the original, still a great book.
Great Children’s Boon
We love children’s book. It’s been around a long time. Several years ago, we took our children to the Boston Commons, where this story takes place. It really brings it to life.
Perfect! Just as described.
Love this book. It's a treasured memento of our trip to Boston. We saw the statues of the ducks in Boston Public Garden and heard the stories of what this book means to the people of Boston. The book was in good shape and at a very good price.
Best.Book.Ever
A classic book that should be in every child’s bedtime story line-up. My adult children still have their copies!
Classic
This is one of those classic books that every child should own. We read it in anticipation of our trip to Boston this past summer. My daughter was super excited and couldn't wait to go on the swan boat to look for Mr and Mrs. Mallard.

This is an excellent book with beautiful artwork. The story is charming and it even subtly provides lessons about duck behavior! My daughters are young (2 and 4) and we love reading this story together. I'm sure that will be true for years to come.

This is one of our favorite stories. My two-year old makes me read it nearly every day at naptime. The illustrations are just beautiful and the story is just darling. This is a classic!
A real classic
This book is a classic, much loved by all my children. I am now buying it for my grandchildren and they are enjoying it as well. We live near Boston and so we are able to visit the Public Garden and the statues of the ducklings and bring the story to life. The book arrived on time, in perfect condition, I couldn't have been more pleased.
Classic Children's Books Are The Best
I haven't seen this book in a hard cover edition in years! Love it! I bought it as a gift for a 1 year old and I am glad I bought more than 1 copy. (Maybe I will be a grandma some day). This story and also "Blueberries for Sal" are among my own childhood favorites. Now they remind me of a gentler story time. It has no "whiz bang" hyper speed of so many of today's children's stories. I would recommend this lovely book to anyone who wants a quality book that can be read repeatedly to many children.
Wonderful Classic
Wonderful classic; my boys absolutely love this book. I was a little concerned that the almost sepia-looking illustrations wouldn't appeal to them, but they intensely study the pages.
Five Stars
Got it for my grandson. I also bought a stuffed ducking to go with it.

Classic. Must have.
A classic that is a beloved story to read over and over. I wasn't sure how my boys would like it since the illustrations are simple, without color, but the story drew them right in. It's a favorite in our house.

Absolute favorite kids book. Of course, now that I live in Boston it is even better once we go visit the Mallard family statues and visit the pond in the Common.
Fond Childhood Memories
My mother would read this to me then take me to the site in Boston the book talks about and we would "make way for the ducklings". I shared it with my kids and now I'll share it with my grandson.

A Must Book for your library!
Classic that should be part of every child's' library! Illustrations are not as colorful as a more current book. Doesn't matter, it is a classic. Do not want book to become extinct. Purchased for my son, retraced steps of book in Public Gardens and now purchased for granddaughter to do the same with us!
