Timeline is rushed

The overall premise wasn’t bad, just the little worn out EMP plot. Unfortunately where the author went wrong for me was how absurdly fast things fell apart. A military convoy was ambushed and wiped out in the first day. How in the world would even a powerful gang be able to muster the forces, find working machinery and coordinate an ambush with no communications and flawlessly execute it within 12 hours of the EMP? That is assuming they even know what an EMP is and how bad it would be. Otherwise what gang in the US has the balls to ambush a military convoy? Also, one of the characters was almost raped in the first few hours and random people were already raiding homes and killing each other. In the first day. Look I recognize rioting and looting of businesses would be inevitable but neighbors stealing chickens on the first night? Come on. Most people would be trying to figure out what was going on, not hiking several miles through the woods to steal chickens. If the author had spaced it out more realistically then I would have continued but there were too many instances of me saying wtf as I was reading it. Prepper character with loads of guns and ammo that shoots every week and has all these preparations and plans doesn’t have a tactical vest or body armor...

No more

This author has a good premise and an interesting family. Unfortunately it stops there. Some of the decisions made like retrieving the dirt bike were reckless and the dialogue was juvenile even what was coming out of the mouths of the adults and contained more swear words than was necessary. As much as I like this genre I will not read more of this. Sorry

Great first book Sean

I found myself getting caught up in the events. I especially liked the descriptions of preps & defenses. I was happy when the devil character was obliterated. Sean, the only way to keep your new fans happy is to get more issues of LOSS out quickly AND without diminished quality.LMAO.

Great beginning

I love reading a new author - excellent beginnings with a well thought out story. Very few grammar problems which is wonderful for a new author. I love emp shtf so this one will be great for my kindle collection. I am anxious to follow the family into the remote MN woods now. Nice start!

Lacked imagination

Same storyline of a hundred other boring, want-to-be, apocalyptic books. ‘Bad guys holding innocent women in bondage for personal exploitation…’ Most survivors can predict these behaviors will unfold. My advice to the author,.. Have someone drop you off 30-50 miles from your home with nothing other than the clothes on your back and share the catastrophic experiences that you might encounter after an EMP event. Then write your book.

Great book! Highly recommend!

SM Little, very good Author! This is a really good book, characters are very realistic, and do is the story line! A must read!

Loss: The Darkness Falls - Book 1

Oh my gosh this is a wonderful read. The plot and characters were well thought out. I could tell there was a lot of planning and organization went into the book. The editing of the book was well done. Mr. Little you are an excellent entertaining story teller.

Doesn't pull any punches!

If you like your stories upfront and to the point, this story is for you. Action starts almost right away, author gives enough character development to cover highlights and the story flows very well. Look forward to the next installment of this series!

Couldn't put it down!

From the first page the tempo of this book never slowed down. The characters are amazing in all the sub plots that are seamless and correlated. Each chapter is packed with excitement and S.M. Little knocked this out of the park!

Abrupt at times but kept me reading!

Good start. I am ready to see where the story goes. Would people really detiorate this quickly? Leaves a lot to the imagination but if you are familiar with this genre you don't need all the details. I will read the next story.

Great series

If you like action this a very fast adventure in the post apocalyptic world. What do you do when the very people sworn to protect the country can't be trusted. When gang law takes over, read to find out.

Great book.

I am a little suprise how much I immediately began to enjoy the Book. I do so, and can feel the influence of mutual loved authors and that I great. I am excited to read book two in the series.

Great start

This is a new author that I took a chance on and was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the story, there was action, laughter, and sadness. Looking forward to the next book.

Read this one!

Fast moving story line. Could not put book down. Got to go, next book, RUN, is ready. Probably won't get much sleep tonight! Found another good author

Surprisingly a very good story

This is a surprisingly very good story. Needs a little work to get five stars. Also the ending could be better.

Great book!

Fast paced book! I was impressed with this first book by S.M. Little. I can't wait for the next installment!

Good story but...

Good story. I liked the family but the dialog was lame. Hope the author improves. Would like more of this storu

Awfulness

This is the worst attempt at writing that l ever tried reading. Just awful. It has absolutely no cohesion, as if the author could not recall what occurred from one chapter to the next. Daffy.

Language

Would have loved this book ,but the language was terrible should rate youlr books. I hope your other books are not as bad.

Ready for the next one!

So far so good. The characters are great and I can't wait for more of the story. I hope Jason kicks butt.

Good entertaining read.

Could use a little more proofreading otherwise would be 5 stars. Society goes downhill faster than we preppers assume. Just one more thing to think about.

Good story

Good read. With today's politics the government part of the story is believable. I did not like Lester. LOL. I will read book 2

Absurdly Unbelievable Plot Induces Giggles: Avoid at All Costs!

(Warning: Spoilers!) As a general policy, I try to be extra kind to new authors, in the hopes that they will develop and improve their craft and produce works that will truly satisfy readers for years to come. Unfortunately, however, this work (this review covers the first two books in the series) is so lacking in the all-important suspension of disbelief that this reviewer has no choice but to recommend that the discerning reader should avoid it at all costs. Among the truly absurd plot elements, one in particular is SO ridiculous that it essentially renders the rest of the work unreadable (warning: Spoiler!): the author wishes us to believe that the President of the USA is willing to literally destroy his nation via a plot to have North Korea launch ballistic missiles at the US which take out the grid via EMPs. To get this absurd plot device to work, the President has apparently been able to suborn the ENTIRE Secret Service, much of the White House Staff, and numerous other highly-placed individuals within other agencies, like the FBI--ALL of whom have agreed to such a heinous plan. And when the Director of the FBI does not go along with the plot, he is strangled by a Secret Service agent right there in the Oval Office! Yeah, that seems like it could happen to me...NOT. And this vast evil plot succeeds in staying secret until the EMPs go off! In reality, of course, nothing like this would have a chance in a million of succeeding. More importantly, the plot device is an insult to the reader's intelligence. Another important annoyance is the author's use of a standard-but-bad trope in TEOTWAWKI works; the truly AMAZING speed with which everything happens. The collapse of civilization starts literally within minutes of the EMPs going off, and the local bad guys (biker gangs, released prisoners, etc.) are of course COMPLETELY prepared to take advantage of the situation literally within hours of the power going off. And the bad guys ALWAYS find out where the good guys are fleeing to, so they can chase them down for a climactic shoot-em-out. While this sort of multiple artificially generated crises clearly satisfies some readers, to me (and a few others), it is like the Wizard of Oz; there is no reasonable reality behind the curtain, and thus, to this reviewer, no enjoyment in the reading. This series, sadly, should be avoided at all costs by any reader who wants a well-crafted tale, with a reasonably realistic plot, a reasonable pacing of events, realistic characters and good dialogue. For TRULY satisfying tales, discerning readers should instead run, not walk, to obtain the "Fire from the Sky" works of N.C.Reed, the "Black Tide Rising" series by John Ringo, or the "Farm" books by Boyd Craven.

Really, Really Bad

I've read the first two books and just don't get the glowing reviews at all. Plot is TOTALLY unbelievable at virtually every point. Character interactions seem written at a comic book level. I've read hundreds of PA books and while many are lacking in one area or another this is about the worst I've ever read.

Couldn't finish it

Not the best. Went from hokey to extremely dark and violent and back to hokey again. Soldiers running from bikers because all the soldiers had "was their M4's". Only one of the best battle rifles ever made! Why fight with that?!? The villian was sickeningly evil. Family was naive one minute, hardened killers the next. Whole story just didn't flow well

This new writer shows promise but...

It was impossible to care about the characters due to lack of character development. Something to work on. As a result I will not be going on to Book 2. I did very much appreciate the decent grammar, word usage, and spelling--many self published authors are deficient in this department. I'll stop by again much later to see if there is improvement.

Violence

This is mainly nothing but pure unmitigated violence. Tucked in among the violence was what sounded like the beginnings of a story however it never develops but the end just leaves you hanging. I did read the second book but it too is just violence. The story line it contains could be written in one paragraph!

Excellent reading-fast paced

LOSS is well written, fast paced and shows what could happen very quickly. Even people who think they are prepared can be caught off-guard. The storyline stays pretty consistent and is easy to follow. Just...Bailey? Did that HAVE to happen?

SHTF

This was a good book. With believable characters and a possible scenario. Hopefully it will take longer for people to lose their minds, but it is very difficult to say. He prepared for stupidity. Good story!

Fair to middlin

The book was fair but not quite good. Bad guys too evil, good guy stupid and lucky. Good “bones” and hopefully the author will improve and branch out a bit. That last chapter hooked me into getting book 2

Very good

Great story I had trouble putting the book down to get get anything done. I hope there won't be a Lester in real life, I recommend this book highly. Happy reading everyone!

Action, action..

This is a really good story of family and friends fighting for their lives. I do have a problem with authors who give the enemy most of the advantage

Good Read

This is a good read of an EMP Event, although it’s a little fast on the action. Anyway, I was entertained by it, and I think you will be too.

Incredible Story

What a fantastic first book! If you love post apocalyptic reads, you need to read this one! I'm so excited, I can't wait for the next one!

AWESOME START TO YOUR NEW CAREER

For a first book you've written its great, anyone who loves apocalyptic books is sure to love of. As a fellow Minnesotiani applaud you!

Hard to read

The basic story was ok, but quickly devolved into page after page of poor writing and gratuitous violence. Lots of gratuitous violence.

Good book

This was a good start to a series! Definitely left me wanting more, which IMO is a sign of a really good book! Hope book 2 comes soon!

Engaging read!

I really enjoyed the first book. Awesome job for a first time author. Can't wait to see how this story fleshes out! On to Book 2!

Where’s Book 2?!

Okay, I’m hooked. The premise is taken from headlines and some documentaries I watched that gave me the willies! I can’t wait to see how this story progresses.

Fantastic read!

Really enjoyed reading this book. Mr Little you have a hit. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Awesome

Very well done.

I have been very very spell bound while reading this book. I have enjoyed the story line and the family dynamics.

Great writing with one comment.

Its typical there's a bad crazy insane guy. I wish the wwe writers would drop this scenario and focus on the real issues like the evil president and cabinet. Also focus on the destruction and civil unrest. Who to trust.

Page turner

Read this cover to cover and embraced the family, hated the bad guy and kept rooting for the dogs. Read it

Excellent Read

S.M. Little knocks it out of the park with his first series. While not the longest read it was good and kept me interested. I was not finding myself bored with the material and was surprised at the conclusion. Both from the story line and from the writing style.

Good read

I enjoyed it and liked a new spin with the President being involved. At times I felt it was a bit above the believability point, but who knows, maybe I’m the naïve one.

I liked the storyline

The story was fast paced and interesting but the language was so bad I didn't even finish book 2. it is not necessary to use such offensive language to write a good book. I would have read all of it but for that

Great,scary, frightening, story

wow! Great story, mores fast. Never a down in action. The ending of this book, begs for the next book,,like right now. Really a great read.
