Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: With Artwork by Yayoi Kusama (A Penguin Classics Hardcover)

-1 star: pages 139, 142-144 are out of focus. 139 only had headed & page number also the large crab raising glasses so almost thought it could have been a badly conceived tease. 142 is the worst, had those doubled fonts like 2,3 mms apart, completely out of focus, very straining on eyes. Printed in Italy, QC not well performed. -1 star: illustrations are fantastic, bold, colorful. HOWEVER, quite far from literal depictions. They have a life of their own. No Cheshire Cat??? No caterpillar (many beautiful butterflies), Queen heart…all those iconic characters. Maybe the artist didn’t want to reinvent and take creativity too far. It’s a bit like reading the word RED then seeing a GREEN drawing… Still love it.

I am studying artists with my kindergarten class and we started with Yayoi Kusama. I also like to read a chapter book with them throughout the first few weeks and this classic with whimsical artwork by Ms. Kusama was a perfect choice. The kids are loving it and the book is sturdy and good-looking.

I love this book! I bought it for my 5 year old daughter who suddenly for no apparent reason became obsessed with Alice in Wonderland. It was really fun to learn about the artist and her work!! I love the unconventional illustrations and it allows my kids to use their imaginations when hearing the story. Definitely worth it!

The illustrations and shaping of text in this edition are absolutely breathtaking! I have many, many editions of Alice in Wonderland, and this is far and away one of my favorite. It is a must for any avid Alice collectors :)

This is a beautiful book. Our family had a chance to visit an Alice in Wonderland Exhibit and there were many different versions of the book on display. This was our favorite, so when I realized the museums gift shop was out I ordered it online. The graphics are colorful and intricate. They add to the story rather than distract. One we finish reading this book, I will be putting it aside to hand down to the next generation.

I already owned this book, along with Through the Looking Glass, but I just had to get this wonderful edition after seeing the YouTube trailer for the book: (...). Go ahead and watch it. I'll wait :-) Awesome, right!? I'm a complete sucker for nice clothbound books, and I love contemporary art, so getting this really was a no-brainer. The illustrations are amazing and they compliment the story perfectly, transporting adults into an imaginary world that's rarely available to those over two feet tall. For a story that's been visually adapted time and again by Western illustrators and filmmakers, it's refreshing to have a completely re-imagined view of Alice's adventures by this wonderful Japanese artist. In fact, the one problem I had while reading the book was trying to forget the movie adaptations I'd seen (particularly the Disney one) and instead allow myself to imagine it with fresh eyes. It took a little while, but I love the new vision that Kusama took me on through that timeless rabbit hole. In regards to the story itself, I was so impressed with how cleaver and imaginative Carroll is. None of the movies really do the story justice. I'm pretty sure that Carroll must have at least been an amateur linguist because of all the ways he plays with the language. Actually, thanks to my former life as a linguistics major, I got so much more out of reading this than I probably would have otherwise. While this is undoubtedly a children's book, this is a story for all ages. Whether you're a kid or an adult, this is a fantastic edition of a classic story. Rarely does a book make me laugh out loud, but Alice's adventure in Wonderland did just that - page after page. I can't wait to share this with my (as of now, nonexistent) kids someday!

The cover was beautiful and the art (drawings and coloring) was amazing as always. I am a big fan of Lewis Carroll and also a fan of the classics. Alice's Adventure in Wonderland has always been one of my favorite books. However, my main reason for buying another copy of the book was for Yayoi Kusama's art! If you are a fan of the polka dot designs (see her Louis Vuitton purse collection), then this copy of the book would be a great addition to your book shelf.

While the tale is the same as all other volumes of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the illustrations by Yayoi Kusama make it unusual and more beautiful than can be imagined. I actually purchased two copies; one for myself and one for my 5 year-old granddaughter. These illustrations are complete works of art, in themselves, by a very talented, creative, imaginative and, sadly, aged Japanese artist. This book will be cherished for generations to come.

It takes a long time to arrive. But the book is sooooooo GREAT! I love the design of the illustration and typesetting. You're gonna like it.

A favorite!

The illustrations are fantastic. A work of art. This is a must to have for Carroll's admirers. This is a fantastic version of Carroll's classic through the eyes of a great artist like Yayoi Kusama.

I purchased this for my daughter who had already read the book in its traditional format. The artwork is unique, and allowed my daughter to enjoy the story all over again.

I collect Alice in Wonderland stuff, esp. unique versions of the book, so this is perfect. Don't know if kids will be into it bc the illustrations aren't that exciting, but if you love Alice stuff or like art books or this artist, it's a great book.

Bought as a collector item with all the recent hype between the 2012 collaboration with Loius Vuitton and Kusama - much cheaper than a purse! Illustrations are bright and colorful and the cloth-like book cover is really attractive.

I love Kusama and bought this book mainly for the illustrations. We had just seen Kusama's infitity rooms in DC in April. It was my daughter's birthday in May and my she loves Alice and Wonderland and Kusama so this was a perfect gift for her.

This book is one of a kind, a treasure of art, both literary and visually. A must for booklovers and collectors.

I have several different copies by different illustrators so I thought this would be a fun contemporary version. And it is. It is a nice hard back book with fun vibrant color illusrtrations.

No page is boring, and it is the original text.

Ok, we all know the story it's a classic, but this edition is something else. The artwork in this book by Yayoi Kusama is fantastic, bold bright and psychedelic. A book for everyone and as Jefferson Airplane once sung "feed your head" - indeed!

This book is very colourful with Kusama's unique and adorable art style and her interpretation of Alice in Wonderland. I feel like I am reading the story from a different perspective with her illustrations. It will be appreciated by both adults and children.

Alice in Wonderland ist eifach ein tolles Buch, vor allem auf Englisch. Ich besitze bereits mehrere, auch illustrierte Ausgaben, aber noch keine mit solchen einfach genialen Bildern zu der genialen Geschichte!

e divertente! Kusama, con le sue illustrazioni, rende il libro davvero un piccolo Mondo nel quale rifugiarsi quando ci si vuole allontanare dalla routine quotidiana.

Una ilustración espectacular para un clásico muy especial... Encantada con el libro y altamente recomendado... deja correr tu imaginación y disfruta.
