Great for beginners!(after learning Hiragana and Katakana)
I love this book! The first nine pages is a complete introduction to Kanji including stroke order, Okurigana, Furigana, on-readings, kun-readings, and the history behind Kanji. It’s perfect for understanding where congee originated from and why it is the way it is today. Pages 10 to 60 is where you learn the 103 most basic kanji characters. You learn the stroke order, their on and kun readings, and the common words they are part of. And from page 61 to page 112, the book offers writing practice to better understand the kanji. So far I have nothing to complain about!

I gave it to my husband and he loved ot. He has been studying Japanese for almost 2 years and wanted to learn more about kanjis. He told me that the difference between this book and general books is that this book has not only the drawing ways to write but also the explanation and exemples of how and when to use the kanji. I am so glad he has enjoyed this book.
Essential book for the serious student
For the serious student of the Japanese language, this book is essential to mastering the challenging Kanji writing system
If you tryna learn Japanese this is a great kanji book
Okai so I brought this book for my younger sister und the book is very easy it has a breakdown of each stroke order .... It's a really good book especially if you are learning kanji best book ever highly recommend
Not worth my money
I’m taking Japanese in school. Thought this would be a good supplement to further myself a bit, but it turns out I already know most of the Kanji in here. A tad disappointed. I’m sure this book would be useful to total beginners, but definitely not for people already slightly familiar (the tiniest) with the language. I wish they had included previews of the contents.
Great!!
My daughter loves learning new languages
Great Service.
Excellent.
Nice workbook
Nice workbook for practicing Kanji
Good for learning Kanji
This book is good for practicing basic kanji individually, (practice stroke order etc) s It also has 350 or more words to practice made up of more than just a kanji. Currently I found a smart phone app called Nihongo. This app can give kanjis that make up a word and then give the stroke order for each kanji you want to learn. Speaking of apps, I also like "i sokki"
Great Study Tool

Very helpful and a great learning tool for beginners
Effective book to learn Japanese kanji
Good learning book
It's good, but not great.
Overall, for the price, this book is a decent resource. I use it mainly to practice stroke order and gain consistency in my Kanji writing. However, I was somewhat questioning the contents of this book as I went. Only a couple of pages in and there's an 18 stroke Kanji already? I think for beginners that is a rather difficult thing. The book my sensei used in high school was the 'Basic Kanji Book,' which is more expensive, but I feel like it was a little more beginner friendly since it started off with the Kanji with the least number of strokes. Also, it had a space to practice writing the words that use that Kanji too, which I feel like this book lacks. If you're using this book for the reasons I'm using it for, I'm sure you'll be fine, but I think if you're using this exclusively and expecting to fully understand Kanji, you may be a bit letdown.
I have not used it yet but looks as described
I have not used this book yet, however the brief look up that I did, this book looks good for beginners. When I restart my Japanese class I'll come back to update this review.
Good so far!
Came on time. No damages. Loves and smells very new. I have started using it yet bought it in advance I’m currently learning Kana but when I do I’ll come back and review the contents.
My daughter love it
My daughter uses it, she likes Japanese, and I hope it works for her.

Very motivating and clear.
It’s so beautiful and easy to use. It has been keeping me motivated, and helped me learn Japanese faster than ever before.

Great purchase
Learning roughly about 100 kanji with examples of it's uses. I'd recommend reading lots of Japanese to learn other uses
Highly recommend!!
Great book, my son loves it!
Great book
Great book and easy to understand. I have a trip to Japan so this helps a lot with the language barrier. Once I finish this I hope to get the second book.
Love the challenge
Great learning experience still working on it.

So far it is usefull, but you can hardly see the direction of the arrows for writing the kanji characters, which is half the point of getting the book.

So far so good. Bought for my brother who is learning Japanese. He said it has helped a lot.

Excellent experience.
Poor value
This book does not provide a system for learning kanji and remembering the meanings. It's mostly just blank squares for writing, like a notepad. This "Volume 1" only covers a tiny number of kanji (103). At that rate you would have to buy about 20 volumes just to cover the joyo kanji.

Best book for beginners learning kanji!
I browsed through different books in a bookstore before buying this one. For me it is the best when you are starting to learn kanji. It's not intimidating, it only teaches the first 104 most basic kanji and it gives you a goal that you can achieve quite easily. Who needs a book with 2,200 kanji when you are just starting? Also, this book gives you a lot of writing practice. For each kanji, you have 55 squares to practice. It's true the arrows for the strokes directions are quite small but unless you have very poor eyesight, it's not a problem. I wear glasses and I am doing fine. Anyway, the general rules for strokes directions are explained in the introduction. Last but not least, there are 50 additional pages at the end of the book for writing practice where all the kanji you have learned are combined to form words. When you have finished this one, there is also a volume 2. Best book for beginners learning kanji!
This book improves your handwriting a lot.
Recommend 10/10. Not only does this book help with your vocabulary in Japanese, it also helps your handwriting. Before, I didn't realize my Japanese handwriting was so bad until I bought this book and did the exercises. Working in this book is so effective, buy it cause you will not regret it.
Solid book to start your Kanji studies
Learning Kanji for me is very difficult, its a 3 step process and this book helps to learn this. Step one: learning what the individual symbol means. Step 2: learning the correct order in which to write each character. Step 3: learning to use the symbol with Hiragana, Katakana and or Kanji to create words and to use them in sentences. This book helps build the fundamentals to help you on your way.
12 yr old loves it!
I bought this for my 12 yr old nephew who is teaching himself Japanese. He’s been using an app on his phone, but says this book has been super helpful. He likes that he can actually write the letters out.
Tuttle is a great product
Tuttle is a great product and I own so many of them. I am looking forward to start learning Kanji, soon. Great price and quality!
Perfect for what we needed.
Perfect for an 8th grader just starting out to learning Japanese. Provides space to practice writing new characters and has a lot of good information about the characters. We particularly liked the information in the introduction. 5/5 would recommend and we'll get the second workbook when done with this one.
Japanese
So easy to do! I recommend!!!
Best Buy, perfect condition, just buy it
I bought this book second hand like I do most. I have been buying second hand for the last 10 or so years and I can honestly say, this book wasn’t like new. I’m sure it was completely new, it looks like it was printed just yesterday, no wear or tear, I doesn’t even look like it’s been touched!
Starter Kanji
Good book for learning and practicing basic Kanji. Recommended for the price.

Detailed and easy to follow
Cute and light weight
This kanji book is perfect for first year students learning Japanese with your basic Japanese kanji’s you’re need to know for your JLPT N5 (Easiest proficiency Test) It gives you just enough space to practice, shows you the stroke order as well as if it has more than one reading will include the other reading with examples. Shows you the correct way to stroke in order. Perfect also if you are teaching someone else Japanese or for a kids.
My daughter loved it
My daughter loves these books. She starting write and speak. She doing on her own with these books and the internet
Schönes Buch
Das ist ein schönes Übungsbuch für Kanji, in welchem man im ersten Teil etwa 100 Kanji lernt und im zweiten Teil gibt es Schreibübungen mit den gelernten Kanji indem man aus mehreren Wörter bildet und dadurch noch mehr Vokabeln lernt. Außerdem gibt es eine schöne Einleitung am Anfang.
very useful
its beautiful!! its got that new book smell too!! this book explains how to draw strokes and gives lots of space for practice!! it even lists the kunyomi and onyomi reading for each kanji, as well as the most common words!! definitely recommend!!
I got what I wanted and it was prompt.
It was exactly what I wanted and prompt courteous service too.
facil de aprender
me gusto el libro es una version mas economica de basic kanji book v1
Just as promised
The book was delivered on time and in perfect contition, just as promised. According to the author the kanjis have been grouped according to their thematic meanings , e. g. time, compass directions etc.. Knowing this has helped me to understand the book much better.
Good for improving stroke order
This book is pretty good for JLPT N5 learners or for anyone who wants to get their stroke order right.
Muy bueno.
Muy practico, solo con lo más práctico. La introducción te acerca un poco al conocimiento de la escritura.
Me gusto mucho

Practical help
Really nice material to train the first steps into Kanji.
Best book for learner
Best book
Easy practise book
Easy practise book. For hints on how to remember kanji, best go to a book written by non-Japanese. They know the problems and can suggest ways round them.
It's a good book
It's a good way of learning and remembering kanji. Plus there are examples of words in which the kanji is used in .
Fab
Great format, easy to use, kanji well organised.
Five Stars
Bought as a gift and the recipient is thrilled to bits with it.
JEDOCH benötigt man wirklich gute Englischkenntnisse, damit man alles versteht. Das ist der einzige Nachteil, aber ich denke wer sich ein englisches Kanjibuch kauft, wird auch Englisch sprechen können.
A non-intimidating start to Kanji learning
I purchased Vol 1+2. Can't help but feel a complete volume would be more beneficial however the contents is great. Teaches stroke order, meaning and pronunciations with space to practice.
Muy Bueno para practicar pero...
Es muy bueno para practicar kanjis, pero no esperes en ningún momento que solo con este libro vayas a dominar los kanjis que se encuentran dentro! Necesitarás practicar más por tu cuenta. Teniendo eso claro, es un muy buen libro para ver y practicar de un inicio los kanjis.
Good quality.
Nice book.
Rapido
Muy bien libro para aprendizaje la calidad es buena, y bastante contenido
Good for starters
Very friendly if you’re starting to learn Kanji, it simplifies what Kanji is and introduces you to basic and most common Kanji.
Bigger than expected
Very complete and usefull
Está bien hecho y te te ayuda mucho
Aunque el nivel del libro es muy básico, me gustó mucho, los ejercicios que vienen en la "segunda sección" me parecen muy prácticos.
Great
Great for learning kanji and meaning with writing skill pages
Excelente artículo super recomendado!!!
Excelente artículo super recomendado!!!
Good book that offers practice, yet cheaply bound.
I took Japanese years ago and was looking for a basic practice book for Japanese characters. This book offers you an odd 100 kanji to practice. You get 5 rows of squares around 1cm by 1cm. Each block of blocks has useful information, like the ONYOMI and KUNYOMI readings, along with common words that the character uses. One major drawback is the lack of consideration that went into binding this book. In order to adequately be able to write in the squares, you require pressing the book flat, open, in order to accommodate your hand. While the middle of the book seems ok, the front and back is already coming apart slightly and you can see where glue was used. In any case, it was around 15$, which isn't bad. It's a shame that the author did not create additional books (other than the 2nd) to cover the remaining JOYO kanji. A decent book for those looking for an introductory book in which to practice kanji.
