Not great quality
Great content, but the print quality is not great. Maybe they should've went for a smaller size? A lot of stuff is not "tack sharp" in terms of focus. Of course it doesn't have to be, but it can be kind of distracting in this book. It's mostly gang portraits, which is cool, but is a small subset of Estevan's photographs.
Shows you another side of a beautiful city
Great book from an amazing photographer. This photography book really bring together a side of Los Angeles many of us will probably never see. While the photos in this book are stunning and can be outright disturbing, I cant help but feel appreciation for the artistry behind the work. Vivid colors and jaw dropping black and whites that will give you another perspective into a culture and lifestyle only few will venture. An awesome collection.
Powerful!
Gang members and tattoos....it might sound simplistic to say those comprise the vast majority of photos in this book, but the photos are *powerful*! The photographer had extraordinary access to the people portrayed in this book and he did a superb job. Also, the colors and the printing are of excellent quality.
Hood art
I pre-purchased this item and it took over a year to be delivered! To this day, I have no idea what the hold up was. After enjoying L.A. Woman so much I couldn't wait to get ahold of Estevan Oriol's new book. While it is good, it just doesn't have the same feel as his previous work. With that said, I'm still a loyal collector. Same decent quality from Drago. Nice glossy pics.
I would recommend this book since it depicts the raw and wonderful ...
My brother-in-law was featured in this book, and has subsequently passed away. The photograph that was taken of him was used during his services. Estevan is so talented photographer who is also a very kind man. I would recommend this book since it depicts the raw and wonderful images.
worth it
great book, glad it was still in stock
Gritty & Real!!
Always been a fan of his(Estevan Oriol) photography!!
TRUE LA LIFE CAPTURED!!
Great book!! Nice pics!!
Great addition for a well-rounded art book collector.
Beautiful photos of people who inhabit the grey area of a pseudo black and white world.

Great pics.
Raw. Gritty. Real.
Another great book to add to the coffee table. The book is just what I expected from Estevan Oriol. Raw, straight from the streets material in well done black & white photography. This is a glimpse of what everyday life is like if you come from L.A. Coming from this lifestyle. If you haven't already, pick up L.A. Woman from Mr. Oriol.
YES YES YES !!! Hell Ya.
This is hands down one of the best books of the DECADE. Estevan Oriol KNOCKED THE LIVING CRAP out of this one. I tip my hat to you. I want more. It is a beautiful book that you really never get to see. Estevan has respect from all walks of life in LA and this book shows it. I would love to have some of these prints in my place. I can't wait to see the next book. AMAZING.

Great pictures
This is exactly what I expected from Estevan. Great lifestyle, coffee table book. I highly recommend this book if you grew up in the 90s.

Awesome coffee table book
I was a teenager in 90's and saw a lot of gang activity in L.A during that time. L.A Portraits is a pretty solid representation of the gangs during that time.
Many imposters
Many people copy his work, but there is only one and only Estevan Oriol. Instantly recognizable, powerful and authentic, the photos show real involvement in the scene, not just some voyeuristic, condescending look at a community. I collect a lot of books that document certain urban cultures and there is a difference between the people who pioneer and the people who copy. It is a different class of work when the photographers is really involved with the people. Real journalism, not setting out to create a depressing book of patronizing images, nor overly romanticizing street life, he just shows it how it is.
Five Stars
Classic, inspiring and real.
Best book
Best Book ever we need more of these to be made so we can purchase more.
