Great Basics for changing your diet

I purchased this for my mother-in-law who was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and at 88 must change her diet to control her blood sugar. She is an excellent cook, so I wanted her to have a guide to show her how she could alter her current recipes to be lower carb/lower sugar. I really loved that this book is specific to over 50 women, a very specific group that has particular needs.

I can read it easily. Good start!

Would be better if didn’t have so many specialty items

Good recipes, but some of the nutritional information is not correct.

There is a lot of great information on eating Keto in this book. I take exception with the way the recipes are presented. The recipe will state how many servings it makes but never defines what a serving is. Depending on the person and their equipment there is a lot of variation in any recipe as to "how many" of something it makes. It should state a weight per serving or how many; for instance with cookies etc. that a recipe will make. The nutrition information on some of the recipes appear to be per recipe and not per serving as stated. I don't know anyone that would eat a 1893 calorie serving of skillet bread.

Poorly written

The first thing that jumped out at me was the About the Author paragraph. Every sentence begins with "i". Really? That's taught in elementary school as improper writing. Since the book was priced right, I went for it anyway. There is a list of items to stock your kitchen with. Later on the recipes include items not ever mentioned. Low carb English muffins? Low carb bread? How about explaining what that means. She says not to fall into that trap of buying stuff that says Keto friendly. The recipe for Mediterranean Feda and Bacon has a picture of something completely different with onion peppers and sausage! Details matter. She wrote that women over 50 know how to stock a kitchen with items needed for cooking. True, we do. Then she devotes a page on knife safety including not running with one! I think we know that too. Book is a waste of time.

Extremely Disappointed

Let me start off by saying that I am not a picky eater. But there was not one recipe in this book that looked appetizing. Keto is supposed to be for weight loss, right? Then why were so many of these recipes so high in calories? Many were over 1100, 1200, 1600, 1800 calories! The book is very thin, about 85 pages, all black and white, and the recipes were unappealing. Waste of money.

More like a pamphlet than book

For the price of this book, I was expecting a more thorough book. It's very light with information that I could probably get by going online. The better and more complete text with color pictures and guides is Leanne Voguel's The Complete Guide to A High Fat diet. That's all the book you will need.
