Junie B.'s Essential Survival Guide to School (Junie B. Jones)

Excellent read for first, second and third graders

My 7 year old daughter got this for Christmas and loves it. It's mid-february now, and she is still carrying it around the house, reading it whenever she has the chance.

We loved this book. It was really funny for both my kids and I.

My Great-Granddaughter has read all of the Junie B. Jones books and loves them. When she would read out loud in the car on the way to school we would laugh with her because there were so many funny things happening in the books to keep her engrossed in reading. They are great books to read.

My 7 year old niece loved this Junie B. Jones survival guide. She was giggling out loud the whole time she was reading it. Barbara Parks’ writing is a delight for any age, including mine.

She screamed in delight as she tore open the paper and ran over to me with a great hug - my favorite present, she yelled. She opened the book right then and there and began reading - she finished the book that day and left it under my pillow for me to read. It's fun - I just think you need to be 7 to appreciate it!

not your typical junie b book but we still really enjoyed it

My 7 year old daughter is a huge Junie B fan and asked for this at the start of summer as she is going into second grade this year. She finished all of the activities in the book about 2 1/2 weeks after it was delivered and not because i\there wasnt enough included, she just enjoyed it that much! Well worth the money to give their brains a little work out during the summer months!

This was a class favorite that had disappeared from my classroom. It is the perfect model for teaching 2nd graders (familiar with Junie B's antics) to journal write.

My daughter brought this book from the school library and made sure before we made it home that I knew how cool it was. She was the 2nd to check it out from the library and said it was so good she just wanted it. As a parent, nothing could make me happier than helping encourage how great books should play a role in a 7yr olds childhood. After recieving the book as quickly as we did,thanks to Amazon, Im happy to see my daughter over 2wks later loves the book just as much and will bring it with everywhere she goes.

I bought this book for my daughter because she loved her teacher's copy to pieces...so it actually went to heRotary teacher to replace the classroom copy. Knowing she actually read it and inspired her to read other books in this series made it worth it.

My daughter laughed through this whole book / guide. She loved drawing her own pictures along with Junie B's. She read through this at least 3 times now. I think we'll go through it again this summer before she starts first grade.

My daughter loves this book. She is 7-years old. She kept reading this book for hours by herself and made the happy laugh all the time during the reading. I enjoy that moment. We have Junie B.Jones whole set books and viedos at home. They r my daughter first chapter book. And my daughter start her first jounal just like Junie B."Dear first grade Jounal...". She use Junie B.'s words all the time. And the more important thing she got for it is how Junie B. deal with mean kids...how Junie B. got happy even from the bad things... : ) We listen the viedos on our way to her school over and over and get laugh at it again and again. Love it. Only too sad for not 2nd grader... Totally worth it.

My daughter was going into 2nd grade this fall so I got this for her. As with all of the Junie B books, she loved this one too. It helped her out a lot transferring to a new school. Junie B's bossy, confident, yet one of a kind attitude is a hit!

I bought this for my second grade niece. She loved it, especially because she could add her own tips and drawings to the book. It was a fun little read and a good gift for an early elementary school student.

I purchased this for my 8 year old daughter but found myself reading it just as much as her. For those of you with children you will have a few chuckles as your child reads to you. I love the Junie B. Jones books. Very well written.

I read this book to my 2nd graders at the beginning of the school year and they really enjoyed it. They passed it around the class for a month after I finished it. It would make a great gift for a Junie B. lover because it is a journal with places for a child to write and draw. Fun to read and interactive as well.

I love Junie B and Barbara Parks has scored again with this book. It can be read to children in a group even though there is a lot of wonderful interactive activities for a child who is reading it on their own. A new feature in this book is the clear hard plastic cover. Great for children's books. definite 5 star rating.

My 7 year old daughter absolutely loves this book! It has been her "hand-book" for a couple of weeks now, some parts she knows by heart. Doodle pages and questions add to fun.

Junie B. Jones books remind me so much of my daughter. This particular book (Essential Survival Guide) is hysterical! WE have been laughing and listening as our six year old writes in her journal pages and creates "new" adventures!

Bought the book to read because we went to see the show. It travels around the US and we definitely recommend it! So much fun for the girls! My daughter is a very advanced reader and she still enjoyed the content of this book.

Well, I just can't say enough about this wonderful and absolutely hilarious book. I bought it for my 7 yr old granddaughter who already loved Junie B., and this just tops them all. She reads it every chance she gets (reads it to me!). We both love it so much. I can't recommend it enough!!

My daughter is an avid reader, and burned through this entire series. She was excited to be able to talk about the books with her friends on the playground. She soaked it all up like a sponge: and then, every other sentence out of her mouth began incorporating Junie B.'s immature grammar. Barbara Park definitely gets how kindergarteners and first graders talk and think, and as a first-person series, dialogue as well as narration is all from Junie B.'s perspective. It's HORRIBLE. If the narration were written properly, it might combat the "spoken" language a bit; but it's not. I'm not even covering the questionable situations and motivations in the books. I call the series the Twinkies of children's literature because sure, kids love it, but is it really what you want them to be reading?

I purchased this book for my rising first grade daughter for a long summer car trip. She read it for hours in the car, and now, months later, still reads it often. My son, a second grader, also really enjoys this book. We've read all of the Junie B. Jones books (well, many of them in audio version), so we were excited to find a new book, especially right before our trip. This book is typical Junie B. fare, with funny advice on being a student. Add to that the colorful pages, drawings, and Junie's own handwriting. It is visually interesting. My husband and I also think the stories are really funny, reminding us a lot of what it is like to be a kid. I have to admit I've laughed pretty hard at some of the passages. I highly recommend this book for early elementary school children. Many kids that age can read it on their own, or it provides and easy and enjoyable read-aloud for an adult.

Very impressed with the concept--the book appears to be a school "composition" notebook containing a "guide to school," hand-written (and illustrated) by a fellow first grader. Nearly every page is hilarious. For example, there's a page on "carpooling" that describes it as "one of the biggest disappointments of my school career," and includes an illustration of "happy happy children" bathing in a pool attached to a car (of course). What a delight to see my child sit in a chair and read the book straight through, giggling every minute or so!

My second grader LOVES Junie B. and couldn't wait to get this. Loved the format in which its written from Junie B's perspective. Loved that it has places to personalize with your kids own writing and drawings - stickers too! This would be the perfect book for your child who maybe hasn't taken a liking to reading just yet. Laugh out loud funny and makes you relive your own days of elementary school. I'll be giving these as Christmas gifts!

This book was very good because it was very funny. I got this when I was younger, so I like to look back at what I wrote. The little problem about this book is that there is a plastic cover over it, and it's really hard to make it lie flat. But I could easily remove it from the spiral. It's spiral bound so when you remove the cover, it's easy to write in. It has colorful and funny dividers. I like how Junie B. is writing a journal in her own words. It also looks like she wrote it herself, because of the font, which looks like handwriting.

This arrived in a timely fashion and I knew ahead of time it was not new. i didn't realize it was a book that someone could write in so there were things filled in occasionally - but it was fine - it was bought at a reasonable price. Vendor service was excellent.

My daughter got this for her 8th birthday, and she has enjoyed writing in it. I like the Junie B. Jones journal a little bit better, but she likes them both equally. It's a nice addition to the regular Junie B. Jones books.

Have you read Junie B Jones? I just purchased the box set and began reading them to my kindergartener. I was horrified from the beginning at the very attitude and rude, ignorant spirit of Junie B Jones. She hates her name, the bus, the people on it, the teacher and her new school. What a negative thing to meet someone on the bus and instantly HATE them. Is this the kind of human interactions that we should be teaching our children? She yells, throws fits and generally has attitude about everything. The grammer is written from a 6 year old's perspective, which does nothing to educate our children about the way things should be phrased. This is not the picture of kindergarten, nor the worldview that I would suggest to my children or anyone else's for that matter. After 4 chapters, the entire series is in the trash as a waste of money. Think twice about what you are reading to your impressionable young children (or letting them read for themselves!) Would give zero stars if I could.
