Awesome Devotional but not What I'm looking for exactly.

I’m always looking for new devotionals that I can read either in the morning to start the day or right before bed. What pulled me toward this book first was the artwork on the cover. I love the distressed look and the dove with print is beautiful. On the hardcover this bird is slightly raised and glossy which gives it another eye appeal. With most books I don’t care as much about how they are abound but with anything I’ll be reading daily for a long term period this matters. I’m happy to report that this devotional impressed be. It’s a hefty little book and has excellent binding that will surely last through multiple readings of the 150 included devotions. Inside the book, it just continued to impress me. The paper used in this edition is both thicker than I expected and glossy. I found the downside to this beautiful paper to be in the additional weight. Also included in the binding is a ribbon to mark your place daily which comes in really handy. The end papers are beautiful enough to make me want scrapbooking paper in that style. The devotions themselves are all two page spreads with artwork at the top. One side has a devotion and the other has scripture that goes along with it. I’ve read through about half of the devotions now and really enjoy them. I appreciated the introduction where the author explains the health issues she was experiencing while writing the book. In the very back of the book you’ll also find an index of scripture. What I appreciated most about this devotional compared to some others I have is that it’s not dated. I get a little weird about not reading the ‘correct day’ and this solves that problem. If I miss a day or two I’m not ‘behind’, and I can start whenever. Overall I really do like this devotional though I have to admit it’s not a perfect fit for what I’m looking for. I can’t really put my finger on why though and do think others would probably adore this.

Another Good One From Sarah Young

I have always loved the Jesus Calling series by Sarah Young. Young has a way of connecting with the reader and bringing Jesus to life. Her kids books and young adults are a great complement to the adult versions. She has a new "teen" version of Jesus Today, but this book is for many more than just teens. She starts by saying that this book was written during a hard time in her life and you can see that resounding them throughout all 150 devotions of this book. But, what I love about that fact is that she understands the hard times and, if you are going through a rough patch, you find your story on the pages of this book. Now, yes, the cover is directed at teens and it's eye-catching with beautiful colors and a simple design. Although that's the case, don't let this fact fool you. This book is WONDERFUL for all ages. From adult to teen to reading aloud with your small child. It is a great devotional for any age. What I really loved about this devotional is that it's grounded in scripture. There are many, many verses that helps reinforce her daily devotional. You can used these as a way to connect back to the bible or as a journaling prompt if you journal. Overall, I think this is a great book. Sarah Young wrote another great devotional. {Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for this review. Experience Hope in His Presence by Sarah Young is a beautiful hope-filled devotional

Jesus Today Teen Cover: Experience Hope in His Presence by Sarah Young is a beautiful hope-filled devotional. It includes 150 readings along with Scripture versus and inspirational quotes from notable figures such as Charles Spurgeon, G. K. Chesterton, George Mueller, John Calvin, and Adoniram Judson. Jesus Today–A Message of Hope Sarah wrote Jesus Today during a difficult period in her life of chronic illness. During this time, Jesus was her hope and prayer was her lifeline. Her mindset at the time was integral to her ability to write this devotional “from the trenches.” What is unique about Jesus Today is that the entries are written from Jesus’ point of view–as if Jesus himself is personally speaking to each reader: “I am the light of the world. My followers will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of Life. Even though there is much darkness in this world, you always have access to Me. So you are never in total darkness” (p. 200). The timeless messages in Jesus Today are comforting and encouraging. I especially like that the devotions are undated, so there is no pressure to keep up with daily entries and readers can take them at their own pace. Many of the devotions spur further thought and meditation, and they really stick with you as you go about your day. The constant reminder of hope in a world where things seem increasingly discouraging make this book a must-have. This hardback ‘teen cover’ volume of Jesus Today is decorated beautifully, with a blue and orange color scheme, attached ribbon bookmark, and dedication page. It would make a wonderful addition to any young woman’s nightstand. The publisher provided a review copy of Jesus Today.

Contains Bible verses about hope!

"Jesus Today: Experience Hope in His Presence" contains 150 devotions that read as if Jesus (Yeshua) is speaking to the readers. Bible verses that support the topics and words of the devotions are listed on the opposite page of the devotions. Many of the devotions are about hope; it seemed to me about one in every ten devotions are about hope and sometimes they seem to occur more often. There are also some quotes about hope and other topics and more Bible verses at different places in the book. There is also a Scripture Index in the back of the book, listing Scriptures that are used in the order they appear in the Bible and the pages they are located on. I concentrated often on the Bible verses about hope as I was reading through the devotions in this book. I made a note of these verses in a Bible that I can write notes in. This book really showed me that there are many Bible verses about hope and I sometimes learned more context with the verses about hope when I read other Scripture verses that are around them. These devotions and the Scriptures that support them sure showed me how important hope is to God if is brought up in Scripture so much! I am not sure Jesus was speaking to me directly through the devotions, but what was said could have been something like he would say. Jesus may have been speaking to me more often than I thought through the devotions though, I did run across some that seemed like a bright light shone on to me. The quotes and extra verses added a pause to some of the readings for me. This would be a great devotion book to read for people that need a lot of hope and encouragement through Scripture! Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this Bible free from the publisher for the purpose of reviewing it. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Don't let the word "teen" in the title sway your decision if you want a more contemporary cover design.

Sarah Young's highly anticipated sequel to Jesus Calling (if you wish to call it that--both devotionals stand alone!) is a simple yet intimate devotional that aims to help strengthen readers' relationships with the Lord. Many people struggle with feeling like the Holy Spirit is present in their lives, but this devotional is written as though Jesus himself is speaking directly to you. There are 150 entries that are accompanied by references to specific scriptures (that are written out on the page, so you don't have to go look it up!). The entries provide specific encouragement and yet they are vague enough to speak encouragement to different people struggling in different ways. So many people loved the previous versions--there truly is something to be gained by everyone, no matter what age or stage of life you are in. In fact, when I asked for recommendations for a devotional, I can't count the number of times I heard "Jesus Calling." The book itself has many wonderful features, including its small and compact size (perfect for storing it on a nightstand or carrying it in a suitcase), a built-in ribbon bookmark (perfect for keeping your place), and scriptural index found in the back of the book (perfect for when you are looking for inspiration while reading a specific passage or topic). Perhaps my favorite aspect of this book is the very element that makes it unique--rather than being written from the perspective of another person, it is written as though Jesus is speaking. The best relationships require 2 way communication. If you are like me, you may struggle to hear or see Jesus in your daily life. This book makes me feel like Jesus sent me a quick email (or left me a voicemail) each day for me to know he is there for me. The feeling of support this simple act brings is one many would appreciate from a loved one. If we are to build a true relationship with the Lord, it is essential that we feel him in our lives. The words of this book provide encouragement and hope for the brightest and darkest of days for teens and adults alike. Many individuals were unhappy with the teen edition of Jesus Calling containing the same content as the regular (adult) version--only the cover was changed. The marketing team for this book made a wise decision in labeling this book as the "Teen Cover" rather than the "Teen Edition." While young adults don't necessarily need different content, the two audiences DO tend to gravitate towards different images when making purchases. (Note: the version for kids DOES have different language used). While I am not a teen, the cover for this book speaks to me better than the "adult" cover--I'm simply not into the "traditional religious" design--(you know what I'm talking about--most bible studies for adults all have the same basic layout and images. The white dove is pretty standard. I like modern design elements--they simply appeal to me more!) The leather editions are beautiful, but if you are looking for a hardcover, don't let the word "teen" in the title sway your decision if you want a more contemporary cover design. Go to this book for a daily boost of hope, purpose, and Truth. Pick up a copy for yourself, for a loved one, or for the random stranger who looks like he or she may need some encouragement. Share the word with others and pray that they will find the strength they need to make it through each day as they grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually through everyday encounters with the world and the Lord.

I love the writing style of Sarah Young

I love the writing style of Sarah Young. Jesus Today is a devotional book written during a trying time in her life. Its a daily selection that includes Scripture, quotes and devotional that is written as if Jesus is speaking directly to you. It doesn't have to be read in order. I have often randomly devotionals and was amazed at the way that the author's words pertained to my current circumstance. The hardback book has an adorable cover and glossy pages. The quotes and Scripture throughout the book is so encouraging. I received this book from Book Look Bloggers in exchange for an honest review.

Jesus Calling

Hope Shines Brightest When Your World Is Darkest Jesus Today was written during a very difficult time in Sarah Young’s life. Yet the words of Scripture and Jesus’ own Presence were ever near, bringing her hope and comfort for each new day. Just like Sarah, we have all had difficulties in our lives. Each one of these devotionals start with a statement given to her from God and each one also has Bible verses at the end of the lesson. I loved the quote on the back cover because when you think all is lost, God is working on something great for your life. All we have to do is be still and listen. I will defiantly pass this devotional book along. It is great for teens and adults. It has a nice hard cover with awesome colors. This is my second book of Jesus Calling and just like the other one, this one is great. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Another Wonderful Devotion By Sarah Young

Jesus Today is so encouraging. I have had the privilege of reviewing a couple other devotional books from Sarah Young. She is so anointed, and writes her devotions in such as way that it is Like Jesus is speaking directly to you. This makes the devotions more relatable to me. And more special. When given the opportunity to review Jesus Today: Experience Hope in His Presence, I knew I had to! I loved her other books! And this one exceeded all my expectations! This devotional has 150 encouraging devotions, followed by accompanying scripture and quotes to back up the devotions. The devotions are easily read and understood. The cover is a beautiful hard cover, meaning the book will keep its beautiful image for a long time to come! This book is written more for older children, teens, and young adults, but I think this devotion would be perfect for us all! I highly suggest this book for everyone! And any other book by Sarah Young! I rate this book a 5/5 stars!

Hope Restored

Sometimes as Christians in everyday life we need a boost in our hope, to remember Who God Is and who He made us to be. With all sorts of stress we often forget the value and reality of our hope, and faith, who is Jesus… To maintain the level of joy, we need to focus of the One… This book is designed to help us to remember and be reminded again about Jesus Who is unfailing Hope. As long as He stands, He is our anchor and shield. And He stands forever, unshakable and unchangeable. Keep your hope tied to the One Who cannot fail, and Whose love will never seize. Nothing can separates us from His love. Sometimes we cannot bring the Bible to every places we go, especially when we need encouragement or someone needs one. With this beautiful book, the author totally focuses on the hope subject and provided the scriptures, to where we can anchor our mind to. Provided by BookLook Bloggers as a complementary copy for my opinion and review.

Excellent Devotional!

I was looking forward to reading the devotional, Jesus Today: Experience Hope in His Presence, by Sarah Young, after hearing about her previous devotional, Jesus Calling. This devotional contains 150 one page devotionals, which are supported by scripture on the second page. There is also a scripture index in the back of the devotional. The book was written during a difficult period in Sarah's life and you could feel the power and courage, as well as the personal feeling from her. At times, it felt as if God's words were being written or gently spoken through her. The book is filled with images of grace, power and hope. This would be a great devotional book to read for people that need extra doses of encouragement and hope. Really, this devotional would be a great present for anyone who wants to be encouraged through Scripture! I received this devotional book from from [...] in exchange for an unbiased review.

Book Review: Jesus Today

While given the opportunity to review yet another book, I chose the book, Jesus Today, after reading that it was written by the author during a period of time in her life where she experienced many health struggles. She wrote hoping to bring hope to others who experience similar trials. Naturally, after dealing with a year of intense health struggles I was curious to read this book. While sitting down and opening the book up I noticed it was full of devotionals written as if by God- in a similar format as another one of my favorite books, Jesus Calling. How excited I was to see both books were by the same author: Sarah Young! This book, Jesus Today, is such a breath of fresh air. It is chalk full of devotionals pertaining to hope. On each page spread, the sectional is written in full page on the left hand side and on the right hand side are verses pertaining to hope. Also, throughout the book, Young includes various quotes about hope, placed in just the right spots. After looking the book up on Amazon, I discovered that there were a few different versions as well as the design cover goes. Even before knowing this was a teen cover design, I really loved the cover as my adult self. The dove is my favorite part about the design, and the dove symbol is seen in a simple design manner throughout the pages. Sarah Young chose red, white, and blue for the colors of the cover. Usually these colors blast patriotism when put together- however the way she designed the cover, it doesn’t blast patriotism- which is great, because the book isn’t focused on patriotism. Maybe this is because there is a ton of red and blue in the cover and just a little bit of white. I like how she did this. Also, to give the book just an extra little touch, there is a silky blue bookmarker attached to the inside to keep track of where the reader last left off. I absolutely love this- eaecially the shade of blue she picked. I received this book through BookLookBloggers in exchange for an honest review.
