Every generation in the church worries, rightly, about people who just glide along, seeming to enjoy what they hear in church but without it making any real difference. James faced exactly the same problem in the very first generation. So it's not surprising that translating belief into action--making sure faith is the real thing--is near the heart of his message.
That kind of faith, he explains, is the faith that matters, the faith that justifies, the faith that saves. We need that kind of faith today. These nine studies on James's passionate letter will help you live out a faith that makes a difference.

Wright is a true Biblical scholar and a terrific writer.
My study group is really benefiting from this study on James. Wright does a great job of getting to the meaning of the Scripture passages, and poses questions that have you thinking deeply about how the scriptures apply in your life, and how successfully you're living up to them. We had tried a couple of other studies on individual New Testament books earlier on; one was a bit touchy-feely (although biblical), and the other was too scholarly for most of us. Wright strikes a perfect balance, and we've had very good discussions thus far. (I sometimes find it beneficial to augment Wright's text and questions with some brief passages of expository writing or interesting questions that I find on line; but the study stands on its own.)
Great next level study
This is about perfect for a small group of seasoned Christians. It bypasses much of the patronizing simplicity of many other studies and goes into stuff you can really use to grow. You don't need a theology degree, but you'd better come ready to wrestle with God.
Great study on James
Along with this study we found some videos from Francis Chan on the same passages which was a nice compliment.
Thought Provoking
This is the first of N. T Wrights study guides that I have purchased and it won't be the last. I've been co-leading a weekly bible study that has been meeting for over 5 years. It was only recently I discovered Wright's NT for everyone series and since we were starting a new book, James, I thought I'd pick it up and give it a try with our group. Wright breaks down the scriptures into sections and for each he gives an opening commentary to get you thinking and an initial group discussion question to get everyone on the same page. You then read the scriptures and discuss the questions he provides. Simple but profound. Our group found that using this guide slowed us down, which is fine we're in no hurry, and caused us, not only to think more deeply about the verses we were studying, but also helped us to see the various ways they can be applied to our lives. The discussions and interaction among the members increased greatly and that is wonderful thing. These guides are great for not only small groups, but also individual study, as well as church wide programs. Pastors who tend to preach topical sermons, rather than scriptural studies, might breathe some new life into their congregations using these guides church wide. Highly recommended!

Wonderful bible study for James
Wonderful bible study for men. It is short and to the point for people who don't have much time. James is a great book of the bible
excellent resource for teaching James
Great for small groups or anyone teaching on James. This resource is a quick read and offers much thought provoking insights for thinking through the big questions the book of James has for moving from faith to actions.

Enjoyed this book very much.
introspection is a good thing
Great perspective and questions to answer as you read through James.
Good study
Just what I was looking for. I'd buy again.
Terrific for group study
Stimulates considerable introspection about how one is living his/her faith. Terrific for group study.
Would recommend.
We decided to do this study as a small group (guys and girls) and so far we are all really enjoying it. It is easy to read while we are together, without having a lot of prep outside of group. The language and set up is easy to understand and the questions get conversation going. If you wanted to make the content even deeper, you could add some extra commentary into the study with a little prep, but overall I like the layout and the way the book is set up.
Great discussion questions too
Clear and concise. Great discussion questions too.
