I absolutely love this series. I read a few chapters to my 5-year-old every night before bed, and she is always begging for more. Annie Barrows is so great at thinking like a kid, remembering how they genuinely interact with each other and what they're interested in. It's also nice that the kids stay the same age throughout the series. In the Ramona Quimby books, for example, Ramona is a year older in each book, so they can get beyond your child's level a little in terms of content, which is too bad if she starts off loving them and wants to read them all.

I was looking for chapter books for my 7 year old daughter to read, something that would hopefully grab her attention and make her want to read for fun. These books did just that! She loves the Ivy & Bean books. She got books 1-3 for her birthday in March and she flew threw them so fast that I'm about to order the last two books in the series. I highly recommend these books!

My 6 year old has never sat through a book. She gets bored and walks away. Always has since she was little. That is until she was introduced to Bean and Ivy. She was given the 1st set of book 1,2, and 3 and she was hooked! Once we finished those. We bought the next 2 sets with books, 4,5, & 6 and 7,8, & 9. They are great, funny and keeps her engaged. I recommend these books.

Did not realize that this is the last in the series. My granddaughter has enjoyed them very much.

My grandkids love reading. Unfortunately I live far away. But it's great to talk to the kids and find out what they are reading. They tell me all about their current book and what they think of it. I usually hear a lot about the characters and the the plot line. And when they run out of books we talk about what is next. That's where I come in. I also look at what is out there and find good books that I think they will enjoy. This was one of those series that they knew nothing about but ended up wanting every book in the series.

These books are awesome! My granddaughter love them. She finished the whole 9 books in a week. Perfect for younger audience.

Excellent books for the seven-to-nine year-old child. The main characters are girls (which is hard to find), but better yet, they are normal, interesting children where gender doesn't even matter at all -- as all children's books should be in my opinion. The stories are fun, interesting, filled with mysteries and mess-ups and just the right amount of naughtiness to appeal to most kids. My granddaughter hung on every word! I would say that the reading level for kids who want to read them on their own is around high seven-year-old to eight-year-old.

Ivy+Bean is a fun comedyh book suitable for boys and girls aged 7+. This book is mostly about friendship. This is the kind of book that will leave you eager to flip the page! :)

Ivy and Bean is a great book series for young elementary kids. I have recommended these books to everyone I know with young kids. The main characters are neighbors and best friends and always have some crazy adventure they are going on. They are spunky, creative and so fun to read about. Both my daughter and son loved these books. It was a perfect first read aloud chapter book for our family. I have a feeling the kids will be reading these again themselves as soon as they are able. We were so sad when we finished the last book of the series.

These books are great for a 7 yr old looking to get into longer length books.

It was a gift

I bought these for my 7 yr old granddaughter and she loves the series! She even made up a song about the characters! I am an avid believer in reading to kids and getting them to love books and this series is great for that!

We love Ivy and Bean! My 7 yr old can hardly go to sleep without reading about their latest mischief. Reminds me of the days when kids actually had the time and freedom to get into muschief! Ivy and Bean are so fun! I love that they are so different but are still great friends. Ivy likes to read and experiment. Bean likes to always be in on the action. They both have fantastic imaginations and always seem to be in trouble. Lots of fun with Ivy and Bean. Don't reaf if you arr looking for a book about straight laced, well-behaved, little ladies. These girls have energy and imagination. They are not into boring stuff.

This box set completed my daughter's Ivy and Bean collection. For school she's supposed to have a book available for quiet reading (e.g., if finished taking a test to have something to do while waiting for other kids to finish). She read the entire collection that way.

Awesome books! My 8 & 9 year old daughters loved this series! We hope they add additional books in the future to ad to our collection.

Great books for young readers

Yes, the kids in these stories get in to trouble and aren't the best behaved children. Thus the many reviews from parents questioning why these books are read to children. Obviously these books aren't for everyone but the children described in the stories are more likely what kids actually do everyday. My little ones live the stories and stay engaged the entire time I read to them.

I hate the way they sugarcoat all kids shows and books these days so that it doesn't reflect actual life. These girls express actual emotion and the author doesn't sugarcoat How kids really act together. Three thumbs up

My daughter now likes this series better than Junie B. Jones and Amelia Bedelia! Each book is also about double the pages in their books vs. the other two series and tons of pictures throughout. I like that the Ivy + Bean is printed on the thicker white paper instead of the usual thinner newsprint.

One of our students mother suggested these set of books gor our library. Our students love them. They are in the 3rd grade level of reading.

All of the Ivy and Bean books are awesome - unlike anything else out there. I read my 4 year old daughter the series and we were both very entertained. If your girl likes bugs and dirt and creepy things and mischief and everything not princess then these books are for you!

These are the cutest books about two mischievous girls. My son and my daugther both read these books with their dad each night, and they love them. I am sad we are coming to the end of the series.

My daughter (8 years old) LOVES Ivy and Bean! As a parent, I really enjoy them too. They are well written, and nearly every chapter makes us giggle at the things Ivy and Bean get themselves into. We have them all! The box sets are perfect. My daughter likes to have a "cubby" to keep her special Ivy and Bean books in.

This series has potential. The story develops a little slowly, but by the end, we are engrossed and definitely hooked. The ending is shocking and certainly makes the viewer believe there is a story to follow. The acting is a bit choppy..there are moments when the words coming out ot the actors mouths just don't ring true, but there is plenty of action and the staging and production are first rate. I'm ready for more......

My daughter is six years old and loves this series. We've read all of the books in the series and she can't wait for new ones. Stories are fun and creative with the right touch of suspense. Another note, the box sets include very fun items, one had iron patches, another had paper characters-so definitely purchase the box sets when you can.

She loves the series so much that I donated a set to Toys for Tots this Christmas. Anything that will put a child's nose in a book/Kindle these days with all of the visual temptations is well worth the purchase price. I am a firm believer that being a good read is the key to achieving advanced degrees!

My daughter's teacher recommended this series -- my daughter couldn't put the books down! She's going into 2nd grade but I'll bet these would appeal to girls through 3rd grade -- not sure older than that.

My 8 year old daughter and I love these books so much! We have been flying through them, they make us laugh out loud. I'm sure they're great to read solo but they have been so much fun to read together. We love Annie Barrows and adore Sophie Blackall's illustrations.

This whole series is great. Good lessons about friendship and being different. My 5 year old daughter can not get enough of them. We have all 10 books, and frustratingly are on our third straight read-thru. Hope the author make some more SOON.

These books always make my child laugh

I've been reading this series to my four-year-old twins. It is a bit over their heads but they love the stories and ask for "the bean book" every night. I purchased all three box sets and this was my least favorite, therefore the four star rating. My daughters seemed a little less engaged with these three as well.

On time delivery. My grand daughters love the Ivy & Bean books. I got the whole series and read them with the grand kids. I like them too.

My 6 to 8 year-old daughters love the entire Ivy and Bean series. The characters are full of personality, their adventures are entertaining realistic. The vocabulary is difficult for a beginning reader but just challenging enough for second and third-graders.

I bought the Entire Series on the recommendation of a coworker. The books are cute, because the girls are funny. However, I could do without the witchcraft, ghosts, and spells. I didn't do my homework, and did not expect that at all. My daughter is 6, and it's not a subject that I wish to expose her to right now, and definitely not the type of subject matter I want her to be reading. It's too late for regret, but next time I will do my homework.

Book 9 is defective! The pages are printed wrong and one of the chapters is printed twice while another is missing! We missed the return window because it took our daughter so long to read the first three books.

These books are gorgeous and funny. I'm an 8 year old girl, in 2nd grade, and I like Ivy better but I still love Bean. The books are lovely because of the covers. The covers are adorable, with a cute picture of 2 seven year old girls. Also, if you get the box set, the boxes are wonderful too. In Book 1, they play a funny trick on Bean's sister. In Book 2, they think there is a ghost in the bathroom. In Book 3, they try to break a world record. In Book 4, Bean's sister was supposed to be babysitting them, but they babysit her! In Book 5, they decide to be bad! In Book 6, they run away so they don't have to be squids in their ballet recital. In Book 7, they try to fix global warming. In Book 8, they need 10 dollars, so they make their own newspaper! In Book 9, they aren't 11 and can't go to Bean's sister's camp, so they creatively make their own better camp! In Book 10, they try to solve a mystery! I hope this author makes a Book #11. The illustrations are as cute and funny as the stories. They are also very realistic and detailed. :) :] :} (smiling faces). That is because I'm happy that someone created these sweet little stories. Bye!

We asked for all 3 Ivy & Bean book SETS for our daughter (age 7) for Christmas based on the 5,000+ 5 star rating (without actually reading any reviews.) HUGE mistake! I would give the whole series negative stars if I could. They are so mean & inappropriate!!! I was expecting the exact opposite based on rating. Now we are stuck with them--since they were gifts & I can’t just return them myself. I really wish I could, because I wouldn’t even donate them with such bad behavior. Plus I really don’t want to support this author by having purchased them all. The worst part is my daughter read the first book & the beginning of the second before I got a chance to read a bit myself. No way! My girl is a sweet, kind, gentle, smart girl! She does not need to be exposed to these ideas. Not that it would change her, but still. I’m mortified I even recommended them before reading reviews. Please do not make the same mistake--do NOT buy these books! We read a ton of books with our kids & are lucky to have many great, good natured ones, that I would highly recommend. I was looking for more that my daughter would enjoy reading on her own. NOT IT!

I’m not trying to raise a saint, but these books are really awful at sharing how to control emotion in a healthy way. These girls thoughts are riddled with violent tendencies. They book I read talked about pretending they were captured and left in the basement of a bad orphanage, that they want to hit people with hammers, kick cars and much more. My 6 year old was almost crying. If that’s not your cup of tea in parenting, I’d look elsewhere.
