Colossians is addressed to a church suffering from cultural capitulation and spiritual surrender—just like the church of the twenty-first century. Those who deceive others with self-centered philosophies, self-promoting legalism, and self-serving asceticism attract power and attention, while diminishing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Colossians serves as a lighthouse piercing the fog of false teaching and leading us to the safe harbor of Christ.
Philemon illustrates the importance of second chances, the equality of believers in Christ, and the power of the gospel to transcend cultural and social boundaries, it reminds us of the Christ-centered concepts of freedom, forgiveness, mercy, and especially grace.

Forgiveness
What an amazing word, a word that is difficult for many of us to exercise in our everyday. If we are wronged, our natural instinct is retaliation, hardly does forgiveness enter our minds & hearts. The gospel of Philemon is an excellent treatise on exercising forgiveness in our lives. Dr. Swindoll, again, has written a masterpiece on forgiveness. I’ve read most of his insight for living books. If you have chosen to follow Christ, then I highly recommend this series written by someone who has applied, wisdom, common sense, & a thorough knowledge of scripture to this series.
Excellent read
If you’ve never read about a book of the Bible or a person you would like Charles Swindoll writing style and his content. Easy to read and follows the Bible. His book on Paul is wonderful.
I enjoy reading it and I plan to use some of ...
A very practical and personal exposition of Philippians. I enjoy reading it and I plan to use some of what he said in a Bible study. I like the way he outlines his approach to sections, i.e. first, second, third, finally. His use of charts is very helpful as well. The publisher, Tyndale, laid out the book so that it is easy to go through and it has headings all the way through the book.
