A terrific book for the basics
I use Affinity Publisher instead of Adobe InDesign, but I still found this book to be among the best for learning the terminology and craft of typesetting. I am in the process of designing and typesetting my first two books, totalling over 800 pages, and this book has been invaluable for understanding things like baseline grid, leading size, and x-height. If you are learning typesetting, you need this book no matter which software product you are using.
This book is a game-changer
Just like the other reviewers, I’m not a beginner with InDesign and this book still taught me so much. It has increased my efficiency and changed how I approach a document. It’s a good straight-through read, and it is also useful when you need to troubleshoot a particular problem in an existing document. What I particularly value about this book is that it is well written, it gives pertinent examples with useful explanations, and it’s written by someone who has a background in creating long documents where typographic subtleties matter. This book has been a game-changer for me.
Expertly brings clarity to a complex subject
I have never reviewed anything on Amazon before, but I am so impressed by this book, and am getting so much useful information out of it, that I feel compelled to throw my voice into the chorus of praise for it. It is fantastic, period. The author writes eloquently and with authority on the subject. I am developing a new appreciation for the subtleties and science of the art of typography, and the book is deftly helping me wade through a complex program and a complex subject. Kudos to Nigel French for a great book. So much better than Adobe’s official tutorial book!
Authored with noticeable expertise and passion for Typography and InDesign
This book easily ranks among the most essential reading for anyone using InDesign and, interestingly enough, anyone wanting to learn about typography. The quality of the book material is top-notch. Readers can plow through this from beginning to end or reference it when needed because it is versatile in this way.
Beginner to advanced, a great resource
I'm not a beginner with InDesign but this book shows me how little I know and better ways to work. If you are a beginner the book will get you started and if you are experienced you will learn more. It is comprehensive and clearly written, starts with the basics and moves on from there. If you are buying your first book on InDesign, you won't find a better choice.
A fantastic read to help designers create a fantastic read
Nigel literally wrote the book on typography in InDesign, and this is the latest edition. It's packed with vital references and plenty of examples to demystify InDesign's sometimes arcane typesetting and book design features, and is a must on any graphic designer's bookshelf. Get the print edition. You can use the Kindle edition as a handy reference, but to really appreciate the nuance, you need the real thing.
Great book on InDesign typography.
Watched most of this book on Lynda.com, but having the text is helpful. Nigel knows InDesign and tpye!
A great resource
I've been using InDesign for 15 years and still learned a lot from this book.
Best Typography book on the marker
if you are in Typography and Adobe inDesign then this book is a must have. It explains in understandable terms all aspects of typography in InDesign.
A must have
Great add for your graphic design/typography library.
