Lizzie is an Aspie Girl - she has Asperger's Syndrome, which means that her brain works differently to her friends, and even to boys with Asperger Syndrome. In this book, Lizzie explains what it's like to be an Aspie Girl, including how she has a special talent for blending in with her friends, how she gets really tired after being at school all day, how she worries about making mistakes, and how she finds it hard to understand how she is feeling.

By simply, clearly and positively explaining the social differences associated with Asperger's Syndrome, or Autism Spectrum Disorder, in young girls, this book will help Aspie Girls aged 5-11 to understand their diagnosis, recognise their unique strengths and celebrate their differences, and find ways of coping with difficulties. This positive and celebratory book also contains helpful discussion points for parents and professionals to explore further with the girls in their care.

This book is a God send!!

This book is PERFECTION!! My 8-year-old daughter was just diagnosed with High Functioning Autism, and I had no idea how to tell her. I really wanted to make sure that we focused on the strengths, but that it also helped her understand why certain things are harder for her. We got this book today and I read it to her...this book could have been written about her specifically...it perfectly summed up what HFA means for young girls. It made the process of telling and explaining her diagnosis SO EASY!!! I recommend this book for ANYONE looking to tell their young lady about their diagnosis, or even to have other family members read to help them understand. She has placed it on a special place on the bookshelf, and says that she will re-read it any time she feels alone. THANK YOU FOR WRITING THIS!!!!

It speaks to your Aspie girl and she knows you *get* her.

I didn't know quite what was different about my daughter until she entered Kindergarten. This book helped me understand ways to help her feel better about her differences, to help her cope, to help others understand as well. It can help friends, teachers, caregivers understand and respond better. When I read it to her for the first time, indescribable JOY danced across her face because some of the pages were *so* HER. Aspergers, "Aspie", high functioning autistic -- finding the way to help your child unlock their potential -- that's what this book is to me. It's "the tip of the iceberg" and a good starting point.. I recommend it for anyone who cares for, teaches or loves an Aspie Girl.

This book is a godsend.

This book is a godsend. My 15-year-old daughter was recently diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger Profile. Most of the resources available are either a bit to old for her or geared towards the symptoms that boys exhibit. Even thought this is targeted towards a younger child, my daughter tends to be "young at heart" (as many Aspie girls are) and she found this book very relatable. She was able to appreciate both the illustrated story and the parents pages in the back. My daughter exhibits every single characteristic discussed in this book and after reading it, she really felt understood. We plan to use this book to help her grandparents and extended family understand her diagnosis. It's perfect for a layperson in that it is concise, comprehensive, and easy to understand.

Cute book about aspergers/asd for girls

Cute book about Aspergers for girls. My five-year-old daughter has been quoting from it when a situation reminds her of the book, like when loud noises bother her. I definitely recommend for parents taking an open and honest approach with their children from a young age. Only reason I gave four instead of five stars was because I would have preferred more specific examples in some cases.

Great book

I recently discovered our 8yo is autistic and wanted a way to explain it to her. This book was great, simple and to the point and described my daughter to a T.

A very good book for your daughter

My Aspie daughter identified with this straight away. All through the book she would say, oh I do that, or I am like that. She really loved the book and I think it really helps her. I really good way for an Aspie girl to be able to read about and identify themselves and know that others are like her too. I highly recommend this book for your daughter

It does a wonderful job explaining Asperger's

My daughter loves this book. It does a wonderful job explaining Asperger's. She relates to it and likes the questions they ask. She just wished it had some answers to help her more.

Great for all ages

As an adult on the spectrum I really enjoyed this book.

book about what it's like to be a girl on the Autism Spectrum

A very cute, and accurate, book about what it's like to be a girl on the Autism Spectrum. I'm so happy to see a book that is just for girls. So much of the information out there only focuses on boys. I love the positive approach this book takes. My daughter loves it!

Every Parent and Educator who works with Aspie Girls Needs to know about this resource!

This is an amazing resource for girls, families, teachers. So positive and also so many great and simple explanations of a myriad of feelings and reactions to life.

Love this book!

This book is amazing. It perfectly describes my daughter. It is so nice to have a book about being autistic that she can relate to. I bought extra copies for the school.

Great book

Great book. Simple text so my daughter could really understand.

Fabulous story for my Aspie daughter

My 5.5-year-old really related to the story and it rang really true.

Love

My daughter can totally relate. We love this book to help explain how she may view things differently

Five Stars

The best book about ASD in girls I've found. (note my daughter is 9)

A must have for any Aspie Girl!

An incredibly well written book that is a must have for any Aspie Girl and their family/friends.

Fantastic book!

I highly recommend this book. I bought it for my daughter and she loved it! She read it and really related to it. It also open up discussion on how she felt and what she experiences.

Five Stars

My daughter loved this book SO much! So wonderful and sweet.

Great Aspie girl reference!

Thanks Danuta for writing such a great child-friendly reference.

Happy to share with friends!!

This book appeals very much to our 10 yo daughter. She could relate to the character and it is useful to help her talk about her feelings and experiences. She has been happy sharing it with friends/peers- has been a gentle way to support her talking with others about herself. We highly recommend.

After purchasing a number of books which explain ASD to children - we chose this one as the one to use when it came to telling our daughter about her diagnosis. She was able to recognise her own characteristics by the descriptions given and kept saying "that's like me!" It seemed to be very reassuring for her that there are also other girls out there like her, as her latest 'thing' and reason we decided to go ahead and tell her has been the constant questioning of "why am I so different to girls at school?" She found this book empowering rather than making her think anything was wrong with her, which is exactly what we wanted. Would definitely recommend. She doesn't actually have an Aspergers diagnosis, as the specialist in our area said they don't give those anymore but just say "on the ASD spectrum". Besides the book's title, this book is fine for someone like my daughter who is only diagnosed with high functioning Autism.

Fantastic book

I got this book for my 8 year old with aspergers who is really struggling with life at the moment and after reading it she turned to me and said it all makes sense now. She took it into school and her teacher agreed the book was fantastic. The school has also ordered a copy to keep in school and show to other children and parents. This was by far the best thing I've ever read about aspergers and would recommend to anyone with a aspie girl

Highly recommended

I can’t recommend this book highly enough. I was looking for a book to open a discussion with my daughter about ASD as over time we realised that she may be on the spectrum. When I read it to her she identified with the book and said ‘ that’s me!’. It has been a life changing moment and this book has since been read by the rest of her family and her closest friend and she has found it helpful to show them. The book is clear and informative in a positive way.

The best book I have bought, THANK YOU. if only I had found this one first.

This book is so beautifully written and illustrated. The insight and understanding it provides into the differences in girls diagnosed with ASD are the best I have read. Thank you to the author and illustrator for writing this book, you are amazing and will help so many individuals not only girls and their families but many professionals too, as some of them have very limited views and knowledge surrounding ASD in young girls and the complex presentations of this condition.

Perfect for simply explaining aspire girl.

Perfect book for both parents, teachers and girls, needing explanation of disorder. Worked perfectly for us, 10year old. Suitable for primary age, pictures and simple comments, the girls is saying. More comprehensive note for careers on the opposite page. Service good.

"Mummy, did you really find someone to write a book about me?"

Great book. Read it to my non-diagnosed 7 year old daughter to see what she thinks. I left out any references to Asperger's Syndrome and kept book inside a magazine so she couldn't see the cover. She was quite excited that I had found a book written about her!

A must buy for recently diagnosed Aspergers.

My 9yr old girl recently diagnosed with Aspergers found this book so helpful as did I. She pointed out to me things she struggles with too things I didn’t even know about her life. A must buy for any girl who has just found out she has Aspergers. Something to relate to and made her feel like what she was going through and how she feels and what she struggles with was ok to talk about to me and everyone around her!

Brilliant book!!

This book is brilliant!! It helped my recently diagnosed daughter to realise that she was not alone! She loved the book, which is written from the perspective of a young girl with Aspergers. We sat & read it together, discussed the points it raises & for the first time she was able to tell me how she sees life. It has pride of place on her desk in her bedroom & she has taken it to school & read it with her friend . It has helped her, helped me & helped her friends understand a little bit more about who she is. Thank you!

Our recently diagnosed Asperger's Daughter really enjoyed this book

Our recently diagnosed Asperger's Daughter really enjoyed this book. It provides a gentle explanation of what Asperger's is and how it may present itself in the individual. My Husband and I really like the bit a the back of the book which gives guidance for parents and carers.

A good start for a discussion

More of an in depth social story book, making the reader think and pointing out similarities between reader and 'Lizzie' in the book. A good start for a discussion

This is a brilliant book for both children and adults

This is a brilliant book for both children and adults. All so plainly written and how to answer questions that could be difficult.

A lovely introduction...

A lovely book for a child or an adult. I read it last night and feel really confident to give this to my 12 year old daughter who has recently been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Well written and describes my daughter perfectly, as if it was written for her. Thank you for such a positive book at such a daunting time for our family.

Empowering and straightforward text.

Lovely presentation of Aspie differences for girls on the spectrum. Can be used as a model for creating personal stories or PowerPoints to share.

Amazing, well worth the purchase!

Brilliant. The diagnosis is hard enough for parents, let alone children so this book is a fantastic "subject broacher".

Brilliant.

A very much needed book to explain an aspergers diagnosis to young girls. My daughter (6) read this, understood and related to the story. The questions in the book encouraged dialogue about her aspergers. Brilliant.

Do not be alone

This is great for anyone who needs advise and help in understanding a child with Asperger's Even greater for the child diagnosed with this condition

Brilliant

Fab, 11 year old with aspergers loves the book written about her!!

Excellent book

This is a fantastic book. My daughter is almost 6 with a high functioning ASD diagnosis. She was starting to ask questions so I got her this book which has been great and she loves me to read it with her. Well written with just the right amount of information for children.

Informative

Great book. I work with lots of Autistic children. This book looks at the positives as well as the challenges.

This book is just amazing!!

Searched all over for a book that would help my 8 year old Grand daughter been told she had Autism. This book is just amazing!!!!

Uplifting, beautiful illustrations

I love this book. My daughter related instantly to 'Lizzie' and I found it a positive and unlifting read.

... in it - just makes her understanding so much better and live a little bit

My daughter keeps reading in it - just makes her understanding so much better and live a little bit easier

Excellent book

Could really see my daughter in this book and explained some of seemingly unrelated behaviour. Helped a lot too to give understanding to grandparents.

Its ok to be different

A very nice way ti explain its good and ok to be different

Must buy!

This is an incredible book! Our 9 year old identifies with "Lizzie" in so many ways and was delighted to see she is not alone. Useful information for parents and professionals, as well as being informative and interesting for girls.

Perfect for new diagnosis explaining

Really great book. My daughter really related to it

Good idea but far too wordy for my Autistic girl

Nice idea, obviously lots of thought has gone into it. Pictures are nice and friendly. Too wordy though and too many questions that we are expected to answer.

Great pictures very accessible for young children

My daughters enjoy the simplicity and illustrations

Good book

A really good book but not for 10 year old better suited for younger kids.

Great for ASD kids

My daughter was recently diagnosed and this helped explain what it meant. It is really positive and my daughter loved taking it to school to show her friends too.

Brilliant

Brilliant book to help my daughter understand her autism

Great book but poor title

Perfect story to help introduce to our daughter and other family members. Really dislike the title though.

Five Stars

Good for children

Brilliant

Perfect book for use with child and family

The perfect book for your aspire girl!

I've been looking for a book to help explain my 6yo daughter's diagnosis to her that would give her a positive view of herself. I cried when I read this book because it was so perfect. When I read it to my daughter, she smiled and said "like me mommy! Did you buy this book because it's like me?". She was so proud to be an "aspie girl"!

Amazing book - for female aspies of any age

I'm surprised how much I love the book. The first part is a picture book on female Aspie characteristics. Great illustrations and a little over-simplified but age-appropriate text. The second part gives a little more background info for grown-ups on the first part and is very accurate and lovely and should definitively be read by grown-ups before they discuss the book with a young aspie girl.

Excellent book for a young girl diagnosed with ASD

Excellent book for a young girl diagnosed with ASD. The first page explains that Aspergers is type of ASD which is helpful since the term Aspergers is no longer used. My daughter really related to Lizzie and we leant this book to her friends as well so they could have a better understanding of ASD.

Great for our nearly 5 year old girl with ASD

Read this to my nearly 5 year old daughter tonight. She was diagnosed with ASD last year. The diagnosis of aspergers syndrome is not given any more. It is all autism spectrum disorder which makes things quite complicated to explain. People have strong conceptions of autism, most of the literature for kids does are not helpful to my daughter. My daughter is curious, outgoing, has strong feelings and is sociable, just like the girl in the book. She just cant get the unwritten rule. Most things apply to boys who present very differently from girls. I was really happy to see this book. She is picking up things more from the various appointments and SENCO things at school. I want to bring it up first, even as a way to talk about things in school. I adjusted the words when I read it to my daughter, swopped the diagnosis for the familiar terms they use now. Still used aspie as it's a nice abbreviation I think. This book opened some dialogue with her and she was providing suggestions, such as earphones for the sensory difficulties. The last book we read, she was not open to it at all and hid it down the side of her bed. This book is great as it is applicable to young school girls. My daughter is in reception. As stated I adapted some of the words to make it more relevant. Also I spoke a lot of it in first person (from the girl's perspective), rather than "all aspies" as this helped us talk about solutions for the girl in the book. I would so much like to see more books for girls without all the misconceptions and stereotypes.

Nice and useful

My daughter and I have enjoyed it a lot. Her therapist is using this book for explain the aspiegirl characters to the parents of recent diagnosed girls and teachers and peers at school. Pictures are very nice too.

Five Stars

Wow

Great book

A lovely book. Bought for my 11yr (newly diagnosed) for her to understand Autism better. Word for word is her in a nutshell. Even her sister read it and help her to understand. She enjoyed the book and has taken it to school and to family to have them read it. Maybe aimed for younger years but even at a clever 11 yr old brain it was worded brilliantly for her to understand.

Four Stars

Helpful for a recently diagnosed aspie girl
