Mediocre Perspective Manual
As lots of others have said, the title of this book is extremely misleading. Not only does the book teach basically no drawing basics, it contains virtually no information on drawing anything other than imaginary buildings or machines. If you want to draw people, animals, environments that actually exist, or anything like that, this book won't help you at all. There's also nothing in this "How to Draw" book about value or shading, at all. The book seems to be written by working concept artists for other working concept artists. Why someone already gainfully employed in their chosen profession would need a manual on the rudiments of their craft is a mystery for you to solve, dear reader. Having said that, I purchased this book well aware of what kind of book it was based on recommendations from other people who had used it. Even so, I found the book disappointing. While the techniques the authors lay out definitely work, they're also extremely tedious and result in ugly drawings rife with unnecessary construction lines. All of that wouldn't be so bad if the authors did a better job of organizing their information and explaining things. At numerous points in the book, the exercises expect you to be able to apply skills that earlier exercises barely taught at all, explained in a completely different context, or sometimes didn't even teach. This makes working through the book an arduous process. An infuriating aspect of the book is ridiculous amount of physical and electronic drafting tools you're expected to have on hand if you want to emulate the instructors' techniques. For example, to accurately reproduce what the authors do in the book you'll need a full set of ellipse templates (~$400), an eleven-point scale divider ($150-$300, if you can even find one for sale), and a golden ratio caliper or divider (~$70). That just the physical stuff. The authors state that free 3D modeling software like SketchUp can be used to emulate some of the stuff they do in the book. Then they go on to (with a single exception) only use MODO and use it to do things SketchUp can't. A perpetual MODO license with maintenance added costs (try to keep a straight face, folks) $2,000. You can find cheaper workarounds to some of the drafting tools and software the authors use, but you won't find how to do so in the book. Finally, and somewhat ironically considering the book was written by designers, the physical book isn't well-designed. While the pages are nice and heavy, the binding is dime store novel tier. The book won't lie flat, so you have to crack the spine wherever you want the book to stay open without using binder clips or dropping something heavy onto it to hold it open. This frustrating in any kind of book, but in a manual/textbook where you're supposed to do exercises out of the book while referring to it, it's an unacceptable oversight. I don't understand why this book has so many five-star reviews. It isn't useless, but it's not one of the better instructional art books I've read. If you're interested in a somewhat similar style of drawing presented in a much better way that also teaches you to draw things other than stuff that looks like it should appear exclusively on prog rock album covers, I'd recommend Peter Han's Dynamic Sketching course and/or his Dynamic Sketching and Dynamic Bible books which, unfortunately, are often sold out and quite expensive when they are in stock.
Freaking awesome
This book is just fantastic and is utterly a case of you get out of it what you put in. I have spent time daily in it over the past 4 months, working through it with every bit of dedication I gave my previous mechanical engineering studies and I have benefited massively. If you approach it with your sleeves rolled up and constantly try out what you read on paper, you'll grow a lot artistically. It is also utterly essential that you go through the videos, from which you will learn as much, if not more, than from the book (a link and pswrd is provided in the book); here is where you actually see the author drawing, and can really analyze his movements and methods, and he drops a lot of hints and tricks. I took copious notes as I went through these, and worked along in parallel as I watched. The attached show some of the drawings I produced based on Scott's instructions (I clearly still have a long ways to go, but would never have believed could have created these several months ago!). There are certain themes that come up over and over again which you can't help but absorb, much like taking a class. If this is your only reference and you are determined to rigorously understand perspective, I think you'll find the explanations to be less than complete, and the organize of chapters 2 thru 4 to be less than perfect. Broad principles are not so much stated as they are demonstrated; I didn't mind this challenge, though, and it made me go deep with the subject and extract what I saw as the unifying principles (this is in regard to understanding line convergence in general 3D space). I got to the bottom of this by working through my own derivations. The author demonstrates really fantastic craftsmanship, artistry, and creativity, and is a very strong communicator. I wish he got a little more pumped up/energetic in the videos, but I suppose the quality and volume of his work speak to his profound underlying passion for it. He manages to break down complex constructions to be utterly doable. Amazing. Right now I am starting in on the sequel "How to Render". Overall, I think this is a simply fantastic track to get on if you are a beginning and want to massively improve your drawing skills; going this direction you are basically aligning with a top instructor from one of the best design institutes in the world (Art Center College of Design). We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Mr. Robertson for this work.
Great for Shelf When You Need It
I like to draw and paint natural elements such as trees, mountains, rocks, rivers, etc. This book for me is a great reference for that day I have to draw the plane, car, factory, or train. While I may not pour over this book daily or even monthly, having it means I know I have a reference for drawing the more technical objects or scenery. This book is full of tips for perspective, creating volume, and out of this world designs and making them seem believable. If you are the kind of artist that loves drawing that, you will wear this book out going through it, if like me you only draw those things on occasion it is a great resource for how to draw sci-fi and modern tech.
LOVE THIS BOOK!
I. Love. This. Book. I was taught perspective drawing all throughout public school, sure, but this takes perspective to the next level! It's exactly what I needed! Always wondered how designers can put objects so perfectly in perspective, and this gave me the tools to do so. It's tedious so now I just need to discipline myself to sit down and practice, practice, practice, but dang if this book isn't exactly everything I hoped for! It's all explained very clearly with examples. FREAKING THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS BOOK! I legitimately feel like it saved me from having to spend offensive amounts of money in design classes to learn these techniques.
Flipping Amazing!
This book is flipping fantastic! It is not designed to teach you rendering so if you are buying it expecting to learn how to render this is not the right book. I am an industrial design MFA student and this book is just fantastic for learning technical drawing. I have a BS degree in design and had tones of rendering classes but for what I do technical drawing is vitally important. Don’t give this book a bad review because of your ignorance. Make sure you read the description of what the book is before you purchase it. Also, the added video content is worth well over the cover price of this book.
Good lord, did not expect this
I had no idea that this book would be so detailed and so technically complex. There is quite a high learning curve as you progress through the chapters, but it is well worth it. It starts off quite abstract with planes and explanations of how perspective works, and slowly eases into cutting volumes and 3D shapes out of rectangular blocks and planes. Concepts like mirroring, splitting in perspective, foreshortening, and correctly drawing ellipses are covered in-depth. I think it's the most detailed book that exists on the topic of perspective. I'm only a quarter of the way through and I feel way more confident in understanding how perspective works than I was in the beginning. You definitely can't just read through and expect to become a perspective expert. You actually need to work through all the examples and ingrain these ideas into your brain so that when you start drawing on your own, you can draw from all the knowledge you've gathered. Excellent work by Scott Robertson and cannot wait for the next one!
Covers Step By Step how to start drawing
This was a great book that goes in-depth about the basics and fundamentals of drawing. I ordered this book around starting University for graphic design a few years ago now and still learn new things from it every day. For those that are interested in drawing but think it's impossible or for those pursuing a career, this is a great book to start with. This book breaks down how to translate what you can see in the real world onto a 2d plane. Now warming for those that give up easily, there is absolutely no point in getting this book. It will show you what exercises to do and explain how to form the curves, but in the end, learning to draw well takes a very long time. This book also does not hold back and can feel overwhelming. But if you can stick to it, you can without a doubt recreate any of the art in the book and start to draw from your own imagination. Those who decide to get this book, good luck you're on your way, much like the rest of us.
One of the Best Perspective books
I've read and purchased well over 30 books on perspective and quite a few are out of print and this one went over detail that is not covered this way in any other book. You should check out his Videos on Gnomon Workshop too that give you a visual on what he is doing. If you don't like this book, you haven't been studying perspective long enough to appreciate it. Another very old and great book that covers things beyond the generic is this one https://www.amazon.com/Handbook-Perspective-Drawing-James-Morehead/dp/1258180537 another great book for beginners is Michael E. Helms book...https://www.amazon.com/Perspective-Drawing-Step-Step-Handbook/dp/0136592937/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Michael+E.+Helms&qid=1601008790&sr=8-3
Comprehensive, extremely technical
This is a very comprehensive book on perspective, however, it places a heavy emphasis on technical perspective (i.e. accurately drafting cars or planes). Artists who don't specialize in technical drawing may find half of the information in this book impractical - and in that case a book focusing on 1, 2, and 3 point perspective may suffice. That said, the contents of this book, specifically the drawing exercises and pretty much anything up until the last 80 pages (which focus on extremely technical perspective re: drawing vehicles) are extremely useful for any artist.
Helped me with scifi drawing
I love this book because it helped me with drawing scifi. I use Procreate It showed me how to figure out things in perspective that are circular and so on. So for me it really helped me and if you are into things scifi and mechanical it's really helpful.

Essential educational tool
For those who like technical breakdowns of art techniques, this book top tier. Information and topics covered as expansive as they are thorough and any amateur artist looking to level up their skills should invest in this book. Top Recommendation.
A must have for any illustrator or designer
This is the most comprehensive book on perspective I own and it's easily the best in a rather vast collection of books on the subject in my library (30+ years worth). I'd go as far to say this should be in every school that teaches illustration and/or design of any type. To boot Scott is as good at teaching as he is at inspiring students to learn. This is because the knowledge he shares is easily verified by the amazing imagery he produces, so you know you aren't being mislead. Many books have one or the other, but it's rare to have both. To top it off the quality of the book is top shelf as well. Highly recommended ... and if you can't learn perspective from this, you may want to reconsider learning something else.
Best perspective drawing book I've ever read.
This is a fantastic book and resource. The videos that you get access to are very good as well. Even after acquiring an art degree I still had things to learn from this book. Highly recommended. You will want a set of ellipse templates and a parallel gliding ruler after working through the exercises.
Good Read
This book is a great companion to Scott's Perspective drawing series dvds. There are some parts in the videos that are hard to see because there is so many construction lines. This is cleared up in his book where everything has been drawn out step by step. This book is packed with information on form construction. The book is surprisingly cheap for a hardcover of this size however it does not effect the quality. The paper is so thick I actually think the pages are stuck together sometimes. Scott Robertson is one of the top in his field and there is no one better to learn from. If you have a chance look up some of his lectures hes done at various schools they are helpful as well.
Pick it up again and again. Read it often. Soak it in.
This book is like a handy little reference reminding you about all the different types of drawings you could be doing. And then it discusses the techniques required to do so and points you in the right direction. "Hey, remember when you learned about draft views a few months ago? Have you tried digging up your old ones and trying again. Let's stretch that skillset." That's kinda how I use this book. Very motivating because the author is so talented. Literally inspiring.
Thanks Scott!!
Great book packed with detailed info and exercises. If you are looking for some cheap book that flies through the basics that everyone already knows this book isn't for you. Getting into the more complicated details of perspective is hard to wrap your head around and its not easy at first, but this book will give you a great fundamental understanding of it if you stick with it and do the exercises. Some of the captions are a little confusing at first but once you do the drawings yourself it usually clicks pretty easily. I think that is just the nature of the perspective beast more than anything. Awesome book that I cherish having in my collection.
Another brilliant education book by the master of teaching design drawing.
This is a clear treatise on very advanced methods of drawing for designers. You will NOT learn how to draw your cat nor your neighbors kids. You WILL be shown how to accurately draw sophisticated shapes, in perspective, without rulers (okay, you still want an ellipse set). You will get free access to valuable video lessons going into further detail on lessons throughout the book. His DVDs are phenomenal, his other books are consistently high quality, and he has a youtube channel to which you should subscribe. Scott has a gift and has devoted years to helping explain very difficult ideas of calculating perspective and building 3D forms on a 2D page.
Good technical drawing book
Very detailed book. Great for anyone who is interested in the technical side of perspective drawing. It contains a tremendous amount of information, and online video clips help you understand. The subject is complicated and requires study. The presentation is clear.
The art book of art books
Please just buy this book right now if your serious about becoming a good artist with good fundamentals, this art book is recommended by many professionals for a reason. Also be warned that you should have some basic understanding of the art fundamentals before going into this book since you will need them because this book goes very in-depth on those principles.
Thoroughly Informative
This is a fantastic technical book. It's a bit dry and may be a little confusing to the novice artist, but it does a fantastic job of teaching someone how to draw objects and environments in correct perspective. That isn't to say that the book can't be used by beginners. The early chapters are geared towards explaining the basics of perspective. However, it may take some extra time to properly absorb all this information. Recommended to anyone wanting to perfect their perspective skills.
A Must Have!
I've been an admirer of Scott Robertson and his work for years and now to finally have an in-depth look into his process is nothing short of stupendous! Even though I've been drawing since as far back as I can remember, I still learned a lot from some of the topics he covers, and I am still learning more! Got a smart phone? There are QR codes throughout the book that when you scan them take you to videos for a visual and audio experience of Scott in action. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is serious about stepping their game up a few notches.
Wow! Trade secrets to drawing!
I could never afford Art Center or any other art college due to the expenses and the time -but this book makes it possible! I always dreamed of a real art education, and Mr. Robertson provides it here. This is a great book with a ton of video content that goes the extra mile to make sure you get it. The value of this book including the videos is over $150 very easily, yet it costs much less! This book isn't a bargain, it's a steal! It includes the foundations of perspective, which tools to use to make accurate drawings even quicker, a ton of great drawings and exercises, and all of the tips and trade secrets of a very accomplished and professional artist/concept designer. It absolutely lives up to its title. I am very happy with this book! Thank you Mr. Robertson and Mr. Bertling!
Chock full o' goodness
This is the most comprehensive book on the topic of perspective drawing there is, period. One Review mentions that Scott doesn't go into planned projection, which is true, though I know very few people who regularly use planned projection as a go to means of ideation, as it tends to come out looking more stiff and mechanically drawn. Really though, with the foundation laid in this text, i would venture the avid practitioner who's taken the time with all of the principles laid out in this book would probably find they don't need planned projection. Plus this thing is chock full of Scott's gnarly designs. So great to have such a generous offering of knowledge from a master of the craft. Quintessential reference that has it's place on the bookshelf of any illustrator or designer, or anyone interested in understanding visual mechanics. Totally awesome book!
it is certainly not built around the tereotypical tropes of fine arts books
This is probably *the* book on perspective, iteration of concept, and basic presentation. The book is technical, it is certainly not built around the tereotypical tropes of fine arts books. However, anyone given to the plunge should most certainly have this book. If I were teaching a course on this material, then this would be the primary text.
PERFECT.
Absolutely great! The aesthetic of it, the layout, the communication of information and concepts in a digestible way, and the illustrations are STELLAR. Unexpected to me was the inclusion of instructional videos by way of smart phone/tablet app. Works perfectly. One of those very rare how-to art books that doesn't overwhelm and distress the artist, but rather welcomes you in and enjoins.
The best of its kind but - With great power comes great responsibility
This book is the best of its kind - giving you an advanced arsenal of tools to sculpt any hard surface form imaginable on paper. One major caveat is that the learning curve is steep and the perspective theory section on view cones and setting up grids is condensed. A supplemental text like Architectural Graphics by Ching will be very helpful here if you aren't already familiar with measuring points and how to establish a cone of vision. Lastly, although this is a text book, think of it as a work book. Only through consistent practice and application can you learn the skills here or as the saying goes "with great power comes great responsibility".
Awesome with a side of Awesome sauce!
I'm enrolled in my senior year at the Academy of Art and I have have taken perspective drawing. This book is a real stand-out because it teaches BOTH the fundamentals and Advanced perspective techniques together. I was worried that this book would be too simple but it has turned out to be as complex as you want it to be. As if that weren't enough, the video tutorials are amazing! I feel like this is a complete college-level drawing class in a book. I'm working through the examples right now and it is challenging and fun. This is the best drawing book I have ever bought (and I have dozens).
the best book ever in its treatment of the hard to ...
By far, the best book ever in its treatment of the hard to explain subject of perspective including books dedicated spefically to that topic. Not only is Scott Robertson an excellent artist, he does an extraordinary job of teaching with illustrations, the fundamentals and practical aspects of drawing from a point of view (i.e. perspective) . I am about to order his other new book "How to Render" which I expect to be an excellent treatise on drawing of shadows, and reflection.
The best book I've seen on perspective.
A great book for learning perspective drawing. Of the dozen or so drawing books I've purchased in the last year, this is one of three useful ones. The other two are: Figure Drawing Design and Perspective (Michael Hampton) and Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain. Each chapter teaches new techniques and gives you exercises to practice. It takes a long time to absorb and the material gets a little dense, but that's just how I like it.
Great In Depth
More detailed than my college class, it has great instruction on what to do and what not to do which may be even more important. It's got a very sturdy construction and feels good to hold and look through. The sample drawings given throughout are lovely and inspire one to go for it!
Wow, packed with information!
When i first got it, i was shocked to see how thick it was. More pages than i thought, seems very thorough of the subject. I skimmed through the pages, and boy you can tell so much effort is put into this. It may be difficult to grasp, but you have to reread and take your time trying to understand - you will get it eventually. The book have many sketches with guidelines, so you have to train yourself to be able to "read" what/how he did it (naturally as you read the book) in order to learn each lesson. The most amazing aspect of the book is that some section of the book have a video to go with it (online url/link or through electronic scan with ipad or something). It will show and explain certain things much clearer, so i recommend you watch the videos as well. I was skeptical about it being $34 (on sale too), but after seeing how much information it provides, it is certainly worth it. Glad i bought the hardcover as well, this is a great entry in my collection of fundamental drawing books.
Excellent educational resource
I love this book on environment and industrial design. It is a supplemental book to the university classes I teach in perspective design. Every page is full, FULL, of illustrations, diagrams, and good informative reading. The pictures dominate the book so if you can't read, or don't want to take the time to read like so many visual artists, the pictures will help you understand since they are a step by step break down of the construction process.
Huge book! Worth it!
I got the book in this series on rendering for Christmas and loved it so much I bought the drawing one too. It has TONS of info and is a very large book and shows in detail how to do things.... A lot of it is for hand drawing (I draw digital) but it can be applied either way!
Must read book for any artist.
This book guides you step by step through journey of becoming a great craftsman. Then it shows you how to get inspired to create your own unique designs. It has a nice application to allow you to watch video tutorials along with the text simply by downloading the required application and pointing your smart device's camera at the right places on right pages (its clearly marked). I am not familiar with work of Bertling but Scott Robertson is a teacher in my Art College that I always wanted but never had. :)
The book is great
I really like the format and exercises, the only thing I could point out is that I would like a little more material about the cone of view, even with the video the practical use of that was not that clear to me. Also I gotta say I bought this book and it was sent through DLH express, it was a bitter experience, they ripped me off really hard, want to buy the next book about rendering but I'm going to do it on another website which doesn't use DHL services.
Beautiful Book - Lots of Info
I've only just started plugging away. The great thing about it is, if you don't end up practicing, you have a beautiful living room piece. But I've been plugging away at it and it's been very helpful so far. It's helped me learn to see more in perspective, and how to perform certain techniques, like mirroring shapes in perspective. It's a great book to build the fundamental muscles up for perspective. I'll definitely be moving onto "How to Render" next.
The Best Book from the Master
Simply the best book about drawing - a mix of technical drafting and artistic license. I am bias because I have all Scott Robertson's books and DVD (from Gnomon). This book is actually super bargain at this price considering that you are also entitled to the linked video tutorial. These videos alone are worth ten times over the price of the book. It is true that the fonts are little like the other reviewer says. I wear glasses at my age anyway so it is not a big deal for me. Although rendering values is covered. I hope Scott will write a book exclusively about rendering. Scott really knows the subject very well. His presentation is as basic as it can be. His tips and pointers as to how to success in mastering the subject are priceless. A well-written book from the master.
Great Book, but hard work
I'm only partway through the book and it's explained so many questions I had about drawing perspective and layout. It's given me a completely new understanding of how images are perceived and created. The tools and explanations it provides are invaluable for any type of product design drawing (my personal interest, though the book covers everything) and I feel many times more confident about my abilities after just a few chapters. The only problem I had was when I started to skip/gloss over a few sections, thinking I could just read and understand the concepts. Actually drawing out each exercise in the book gave me a new insight into the workings of perspective, and every one ended up being essential to the more complex exercises later on. I'd also recommend making your own practice exercises to master pieces that you find difficult. It pays off in the end. Amazing book, very satisfying and informative, highly recommended.
great book to study perspective
great book to study perspective. This helps me a lot when it comes to draw industrial design related objects but not limited to any other everyday objects and buildings too. Great choice.
2 or 3 College Courses rolled into one
This book is wonderful. It is essentially 3 fine college courses on perspective put down on 200 pages. Well worth the price. More than likely this will be the only book anyone will need on perspective, but if not, and I can't imagine there is much out there that isn't here, it's a great start. I really can't praise this book enough. The thing I think that makes it unique is it just doesn't explain how use point perspective and the basic tricks associated with that, but it gives a sort of understanding of how perspective works. As I'm learning from this book I'm practically creating a virtual CGI program in my brain, if that makes sense. It's hard to explain, but in short I can almost visualize 3 dimensions in my mind before putting it to paper, because I'm developing an understanding of 3d, I don't just have to sort of guess where to place things, I know where to place things so it is exactly what I want, where I want it. I can move in perspective and not worry about objects moving or changing size. This may be the best book on perspective written to date, it's surely the best I have come across and it's exactly what I have been looking for, for years.
Best book on subject in 10 years, easy
I teach a lot of drawing so I buy or read 2 to 3 books per year on drawing and/or perspective mainly to find new exercises and/or ways of better explaining things to my high school students. This is easily the best book I have read about the subject in the last 10 years. I've already reserved my copy of their new book on rendering. Furthermore, the examples they use (their own awesome drawings and the awesome drawings of their friends) are right up the alley of what students are interested in drawing anyway (enough of the brick buildings already!). Some of my students have duplicated the images in the book simply because they like the drawing. The explanations are easy to understand even though the concepts or outcome-drawings are complex. This is a book for a beginner who wants to become a master very quickly.
Amazing detail
This was a perfect Easter gift for my son who is recently very interested in perspective drawing. If you're a fan of the technical aspects of drawing this is an excellent book.
Excellent book
I like this book because it has all the technical info one needs to know about using perspective in environment concepting/illustrating, but unlike most books of it's type, it feels more geared toward an artist. It has the academic info of how exactly to use perspective to your advantage, as well as industry tips and tricks for roughing an environment out for concepting. For example, having trouble concepting something like... a medieval house? sketch over a photo of a modern house so your layout and proportions look right, but then just give it a historical setting and treatment so it looks right. It gives examples of everything, and great examples at that. I own more art books than i know what to do with and upon getting this one it instantly went into my top 5 favorites. Highly recommend.
Excellent book!
This book is amazing! It shows you step by step how to draw super realistic objects (vehicles and environments) in perspective. It teaches you all the basic construction methods you need, and gives complete examples on how to put them together to draw complete designs. You will be amazed by how fast you can learn to draw great looking things by reading this book. Highly recommended if you're starting out with drawing, or have been drawing for years but never mastered perspective!
Great for engineers!
I purchased a copy of this book after I decided to pick up drawing again, and I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I come from an engineering background so I was very happy to see the detailed chapters on perspective, developing shape/volume, and all of the great tips and exercises to develop your skills. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to learn about perspective drawing of mechanical objects.
A brand new perspective!
Great book. Easy to understand as it comes with video examples. Book goes into the very technical side of drawing with perspective so you can draw about any 3d image from imagination. Really helps you to understand forms in perspective!
Budding Concept Artist or Product Designer? This book is a must
This book is excellent and should be standard issue for anyone interested in drawing confidently from the imagination. It will also improve your drawing from sight too. If you are wanting to become a concept artist or product designer, get this book and stick with it, using the videos as reference. As far as I know there's no better reference book out there and is second only to being taught by Scott himself or Feng Zhu, or similar masters. Don't let the technical stuff put you off, it's all the fundamentals you need to have the confidence to start drawing anything. The book focuses mainly on cars, planes and a few other things, but what you learn is applicable to whatever you choose to draw. I will be recommending it to all students.
One of the best books
Great book. Lots of insights and suggestions to help improve drawing skills.
Buy it
What can I say that hasn't already been said. Great, great, great book. The layout, the paper, the wieght of the book and the information is like Scott is talking to you from his DVDs. And of course the sketches are clear and large. All freehand too. If you want to be a designer (any kind) this book is essential for understanding what in the world you are trying to design through fundamentals and real tips on how to know instead of guessing. Art Center perfection. Thank you Scott!
Perfect guide
I choose this guide by reviews and lookups from other sources. And it was BEST BUY I ever made. This one piece is must be for everybody interested in industrial design, or somebody who will draw buildings/machinery in their work. Perfect guide for perspective (1, 2, 3 and more), tweaks and tricks for mirroring, so your work will look symmetric and consistent. Tutorials have lots of examples and guide you trough the process of creating distinctive piece of art. Improvement in my work was seen in few days of using this book. Only problem was first chapter explaining all the views, angles, etc.. It was little bit chaotic, but one reread was enough to make some progress further into book.
Best drawing book I have ever purchased
This book is very much worth its weight in gold. For the reviewers who say this is not a beginner book, well, I started this book as a beginner. The only thing I knew about perspective was that items get smaller the further they are and that anything above the horizon line angles downward towards the vanishing point and anything under the horizon line angles upwards towards the vanishing point. Now I know how to multiply using perspective, work with planes, create grids and build objects with volume. I'm not saying that this is an easy read. This is a book that I needed to pick apart page by page. I worked every exercise and spent at least 2 hours each night studying it. If I found that I was struggling with an exercise for too long, I would move ahead to the next exercise and when done, I would go back to the previous exercise and try again. Yes, some of the example exercises could have been more helpful, such as providing us with the angles of the left and right vanishing points (because a lot of my working samples ended up very skewed). I found that by tracing the example from the book, I could then work the exercise easier. I then would practice it multiple times before I moved on. Tracing paper was a must have because I would first draft the base construction, then use tracing paper to finish it off. That way I could practice over and over without having to start from scratch. This helped the concepts to embed themselves in my brain. And yes, my brain hurt a lot when reviewing this book. :-) The key thing here is, practice, repeat and move on. If you are not a persone who has the patience to stick with something, then this book may not be for you. It took me 2 months to go through this book. But then again, I was obsessed with it and studied it thoroughly. I still am not able to draw a vehicle that looks road or air-worthy, but I have the baseline and now it will just take time and practice to continue to improve. The youtube videos were extremely helpful as well. Yes, it would have been nice to be able to cast the videos on the TV instead of being restricted to viewing them on my mobile device, but hey, we had videos which were a nice touch! This book has been one of the best art books that I have ever purchased.
excellent
this guy's online YouTube tutorials are very cool and his work is very impressive (I am a professional artist as well). My 9 year old son and I have watched some of them together. I bought this book for him for Xmas knowing that much of it would be beyond his abilities and comprehension right now, but that it will give him things to work on for many years to come.
The best book out there for learning how to draw with design in mind.
This book is an excellent source to really learn and understand the basic skills of drawing and more importantly how to apply this skill towards designing. I got this book after hearing a recommendation from Feng Zhu and I do not regret it. It has really made me understand drawing as more of a trade than just a pure artistic exercise. Drawing is just a hobby for me but I enjoy it much more now that I am able to produce tangible designs out of it. Pros: *Excellent book to learn the fundamentals *Nicely printed on high quality thick paper *Lots of examples Cons: *None Additional Considerations: Check out the rendering book as well:
Good book for drawing.
If you want a ink and paper drawing book for reference this is a great book.
Not intended for anatomy, but is a great way to learn techniques used to draw everything else
It took me a while, but I finally got through this textbook. Overall, I feel that this book is relatively well-rounded and does what it promises: Teaches you the basics as well as the advanced techniques used to draw objects and environments accurately. What this book does NOT do is teach anatomy, so if that is your goal, turn away, you're looking at the wrong book. Essentially, this book teaches how professionals do precise measurements in order to draw things in 3D space, and what techniques they use to fill in the empty spaces that most beginners would be unable to draw. It teaches things like perspective, mirroring or copying, and proportions between objects. Unfortunately, even though the lessons aren't too difficult to follow through, there is a huge lack of practical learning. The book doesn't give you any practice lessons to try to solve. It's just designed as a reference book for you to go back to whenever you're actually drawing and need to use a technique to draw something specific. This makes it really hard to learn the concepts in the books, since you'll often not need to or won't want to go out of your way just to use them. I draw fantastical environments, and I actually found it time-consuming to adhere to the techniques used in the book. Sure, they are the "right way" of drawing things in 3D space, but unless you're creating art for professional purposes, a lot of the techniques are unnecessary and can be substituted by perspective, eyeballing, and feel. The book promises that it will teach you how to draw anything you can imagine, but the part of the book that teaches about visual libraries (developing unique ideas) was seriously lacking. I was disappointed by this. It doesn't really teach anything that others out there haven't described already. It's still the adage of "look up all sorts of keywords and take idea from each one." I suppose this is the general truth, but Feng Zhu teaches about it much better in his free video lessons. Overall, I recommend this book only if you need to learn the industry techniques used for more advanced applications such as architectural drawing or professional concept art. If you are a casual artist, don't bother; just get any ordinary perspective book (or even just learn about that online) and eyeball the rest that you can't figure out. Also, don't bother buying the sequel book (How to Render) unless you actually need it. It's completely different and delves more into the field of concept art.
Good...?
Present for secret Santa. This person is a graphic designer and really wanted this book. I didn’t ask why but they loved it.
3 perspective to create the illusion of distance great to own lots of helpful
yes I had to get this book you want to create futuristic machines or just a new vehicle this book explains that and more 2, 3 perspective to create the illusion of distance great to own lots of helpful information
Excellent Instruction.
I am digging this book. Well thought out for industrial designers. Keynote: Emphasis on mechanics and objects...just in case your head thinks otherwise. The videos that are accessible on this book (via web) are invaluable. It's like you are getting in-school support on the topics you are covering. Why aren't schools doing more of this? More often than nought, a demonstration of an idea is worth more gold than the inferred idea of a written instruction. Some people can't write instructions well and some students don't read well. In turn, the author succeeds with this 1-2 combo of written, pictured, and video demonstration. As for the choice of hardbound versus softcover...I couldn't tell you which to choose. I chose soft-bound because I know I'd kill a hard bound's binding.
Very useful to help you move forward in drawing.
Very clear and concise, with video supplements. It also has an (I only tried the Android) app for augmented display of the book, in that a picture on the page will actually insert an object (which you can only see on the phone, obviously) that is a 3D representation of the 2D object on the physical page. It's a neat novelty, but not wholly necessary for the purposes of the book. The author goes over the various tools needed, such as pens, rulers, ellipse guides, etc. and explains the reasons for and uses of all of them. Don't expect it to be a magic pill; it still takes practice, but this book will certainly help jumpstart ideas and thinking in 3D while drawing in 2D.
For the Money....
I can't believe how much instruction Scott gives the student in this book and the accessible videos. Great book, and I also enjoyed his "How to Render" book.
Another great book by these guys
Especially like the accompanying videos which are accessible thru an rfid scan in the book. Very clever. These guys are the best, really.
This is what I needed so many years ago.
I went to an expensive private art school and none of the teachers knew how to answer me properly when I asked about perspective drawings despite having a reputation in the illustration/art world. This is what I needed so many years ago.
Watch the videos and read the book.
Everyone who want's to draw anything, should read this book, and more importantly, watch the videos. Seriously, do both, it's a lot of mental math, and it takes a while to catch on.
Great for learning
It has taught me alot
Definitely Recommended
I have yet to start drawing from this book but I went through each and every page and I have to say that this is amazing especially for a newbie in perspective like I am. It shows in depth how to attack perspective in a way that will allow your brain to take ideas and place it on paper. It's an easy read and I'm sure anyone could follow and learn from this book.
Fantastic Primer on Perspective Drawing.
This is a fantastic reference for anyone who desires to learn the basics of sketching in perspective. Perspective drawing is the key focus on this book, but it also does a good job at showing how perspective in your drawing compares to scenes in reality. There are other books out there that teach things that are shown well in this book, but the thing that I think makes this one unique is that it brings so many different aspects of perspective, sketching, and object design together in one place. And while it doesn't include every technique available to a designer or artist, this explains a tremendous toolset that you'll be able to use (very quickly!) to produce most anything you can imagine. Isn't that the goal? The quality of the book is fantastic (I got the "paperback" version) with some of the thickest paper of any book I own. Each page is in full color (most publishers would have cut corners as many of the images only include spots of color and the temptation to make it greyscale had to be high). Also included is a link list to video lessons. There is an upcoming app that will allow you to scan images from many of the pages to trigger the videos, but it's not yet available on iOS or Google Play store (at least it didn't show up as linked from the QR code and separate searches). The link list works with your computer or a tablet. I'll update this review when the app becomes available. If you are unfamiliar with Scott Robertson, I highly recommend searching for him in YouTube. I've been following him for years and have 7 of his drawing, rendering, and designing DVDs from the Gnomon workshop. This book and the videos is a nice companion to those, but much less expensive! (Those DVDs were $30 each). Even with that background, I'm very happy with Scott's latest book.
Great content, well put together!
Incredible! Great content, incredibly well put together and perfectly thought out and executed. Plus, there are videos that one can access with the purchase of the book for additional learning tools. Fantastic book as a resource for learning and inspiration. Well done!
Great and informative book
I just started reading it, doing the assignments and so far I love it! I have already noticed my improvement! and if you download the app you can see videos for more explanations
Scott Robertson delivers another winner.
This book is geared more towrd the Industrial Designer but would be a dream book for a beginner to show them what the "real" world is looking for in a designer. Very complex drawings are on target for the visual world we live in when computer graphics are the rage.

Very helpful book and the included videos are very cool. I have had some trouble on a couple of occasions getting the videos to work but overall it's a very cool feature. Slowly making my way through it but I am learning a lot
Started reading it immediately
Has a lot of basics that are great for anyone learning to draw or honing your skills to get better at drawing. Incredible wealth of information.
Excellent Investment for Serious Designers and Artists
I've been waiting for this book for a while and I couldn't wait too long so I bought a hardcover version from Scott Robertson's site. I'm have to say that I've been very exited to add another one of his valuable resources since his videos from The Gnomon Workshop. This book comes complete with many valuable techniques on how to draw in perspective. The book gives you a very good layout starting from basic shapes to more complex forms with environment and vehicle design both from existing concepts and imagination. The book also goes over defining perspective by the viewing position as well as the cone of vision within perspective. There is a section on how to use computer generated forms or objects to facilitate a drawing as an underlay, and it also goes over cutaway and assembly views. Included are some step-by-step tutorials as well as hours of fun and informative videos to reinforce the knowledge this book carries. It is easy to have a mobile device, download an app, and make this book interactive as well. Overall, this book is one of its kind and the most comprehensive book on perspective I have seen for artists. I've been watching Scott Robertson's free tutorial Friday videos posted on YouTube and have been patiently waiting for something like this to help me when I'm away from the computer.
Perfect for every artist
Scott and Thomas are well known for drawing vehicles, but this book goes way beyond them. It teaches the 101 of drawing, from the most basic stuff like perspective and ellipses to advanced sketching techniques. Hundreds of pages that cover all subjects related to drawing, good for amateurs and professionals alike, of all levels. I had two drawing classes with the authors while attending Art Center and it's all in the book (plus a lot more). Highly recommend!
Good perspective book
Its a pretty good book on perspective and building volumes. Its focus is more on building objects like planes and cars rather than interiors but the techniques and lessons can be used for everything. I recommend it for anyone who wants to learn to draw objects and other things in perspective.
good book
good book very helpful a bit advanced for me and was more like a collage text book then a how to draw book still very good and very useful I would recommend it if your an engineer this will help you a lot its concepts and techniques are great and well done
Superb Content
Superb content, it could have been better if it was protected by packing when delivery……!
Back to school for $30
I few years back, I took a Perspective Drawing course in Industrial Design from an excellent instructor who drew faithfully from the lessons compiled in this book. I unfortunately did not continue in the department when money-draining prerequisites made me question the whole institution, but with this book in my hands, I am doing the exercises, observing the demonstrations, and ready to become better than I have ever been.
Has changed my approach to drawing
I've been an art dilettante for decades, always dabbling, never mastering. Wish I had had this book back in the 70's as it changed my entire understanding of how to place marks on a canvas.
drawing is fun!
5 Stars for a well put together book. Well written, informative, inspirational, and easy to understand. The hard cover version has heavy paper pages. The illustrations are awesome. If you have an interest in imaginative freehand drawings you will certainly enjoy this book.
A must have for any Designer, aspiring concept artist, student , or technical drawing professional
Ever wanted to learn how to draw technically, or just in general? I recommend starting here no matter your skill set and experience level. A staple for any Designer or aspiring concept artist. Just about any form or object you could imagine is explained in great depth - Seriously, look no further if you desire to draw accurately from your imagination.
All you need to draw anything from your imagination
The title said it all. I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to learn the essentials for drawing and designing things from your imagination. I admit the basics can be boring sometimes but it's worth your time. Basically, you'll learn how to draw anything from any angle. The book covers necessary skills, terminology, and basics of form construction. Then you'll get some tips on drawing environments, aircrafts and vehicles. But get ready to work hard, these skills need a lot of effort to master.
Handy guide for any artist
Not another beginners book on drawing.... Thank You Scott and Thomas. In this book they cover some more advanced perspective topics. My favorite part about this book is the way its laid out like a manual/aid. Meaning they aren't holding your hand and instead present each section as almost a list of logical facts on how things work in perspective with a few demos. To me this makes it easy to find solutions to problems that I'm having because I can easily reference a section that's properly labeled. That said I would recommend this book to someone who has already learned some basic drawing skills or has already taken a few classes and needs a little extra help filling in gaps in their knowledge on the fundamentals of drawing in perspective. Important to know as well is that this book feeds directly into how to render where they cover advanced lighting scenarios and assigning value. That alone gives both books sooo much more value to me in that its a complete package that ties into what I've already been learning.
Awesome!
I don't usually waste my time reviewing the stuff I purchase (as long as amazon doesn't pay for my time doing that), but this time I made an exception. I really appreciate Scott's time he spends every week making a free friday tutorial on his yt channel. I bought this book because I wanted to support scott, and also after watching his video presentation regarding "how to draw" I realised I will finally get a clear explanation of some stuff I was trying to figure out by myself for a long time. I am getting "how to render" as soon as it is released for sure. Great book, cannot recommend it enough!
...AWESOME...
...i recommend it most highly as it is akin to having course content at your fingertips - basically a 10 chapter course with video links built into the pages when using the app with your device (otherwise there are links to the pages on the website)... it focuses primarily on drawing for vehicle & environment concept design, however, the lessons are applicable to any discipline... at the moment it is especially helpful for me when warming up/cooling down as preparation for my muscles & mind to be set for a day of cleaning up hand-drawn animation & it will hopefully prove invaluable when i revisit my ruff backgrounds before finishing up my film..
You need this!
This book takes you down the path of understanding drawing through the use of linear perspective. This book has opened my eyes to the many errors I have made over the year of drawing. I would say a must have for any budding artist.
Best book on perspective and drawing three dimensionally
Best book on perspective and drawing three dimensionally. Period. If you want a master drawing course on representing scenes and machines from your imagination, I've never seen its equal. Also, it comes with an app that allows immediate access to instructional videos which seamlessly combine with the lessons in the book.
Excelente libro
Cumple con todas las expectativas
Awesome book for dummies like me
The examples and writing style are really great and easy to understand. Love the videos as well.
LOVE this book
LOVE this book. I bought it because I wanted to expand on what Scott teaches in his videos, but when I got it I realized that it is more valuable than any book I got in college. The perspective lessons alone make it worth the price of admission so to speak. The other night I was trying to figure out a particularily complicated angle/foreshortening problem. After I was about ready to give up, I flipped through the book and used Scott's techniques to work it out. Can't recommend this enough. Anyone who wants to get better at technical drawing - sci-fi or otherwise - would do well to making this part of their reference library.
Five Stars
A nice combination of drafting / illustration techniques explained. Excellent for translating imagination into concrete design.
Wish I had this when I was 12! very informative
Wow, really amazing stuff, take a second to look at the creds of the author, that is enough to convince you. Incredibly informative.
Definitive Text on Design and Illustration
Having published two books already with Scott, I have seen first hand his passion for creating the highest quality product for both entertainment and educational use. Combined with his background in industrial design in the commercial world and academia, I highly endorse this book as a valuable tool that should go on any artist, or aspiring artist's bookshelf. In my opinion, it is the definitive text on the fundamentals of design and drawing in general. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book!
It is teaching me how to draw on my own.
This book is great for the beginner.
I'm becoming a fan of this book
The excercises in the first half dealing with perspective and how to work through designing are amazing. I have never seen it explained better then here. I feel like the way Scott explains the design process is a secret just being revealed. This book is an amazing value. Thanks!
Thinking with perspective
I repeatedly come back to this book-- I appreciate Robertson's breakdowns of different forms of perspective and how and where they're applicable. I find some of the breakdowns are a little abstract, or are created with the intent of providing the reader a template to create their own re-usable grid for constant application of perspective rather than really demonstrating how the grid can be applied to any number of scenarios with multiple objects (people, animals, etc) in them. Regardless, there are some great examples of the various forms of perspective in use and Robertson does a great job in walking the reader through the various forms and how to begin thinking about composing shapes for them.
Great book on perspective
A great, very in-depth guide to perspective drawing. There are videos you can watch through a free app that are helpful in understanding lessons. Very happy with this purchase.
Absolutely great guide to drawing things in perspective
As an Industrial Design student, it is necessary for me to be able to sketch/draw things in perspective. I've always had trouble with sketching until now. I found this book easy to follow and the examples really eye-opening. My sketching has improved little by little every day by following all the examples in this book. To me, Scott Robertson did an extraordinary job while tackling this subject. And this is for everyone, anyone can learn how to draw. It takes practice. A lot of practice. If you want to learn to draw, you must be committed to doing so. You will not get better at drawing if you do not try. As you draw everyday, you will develop the fine motor skills that enable you to draw better. It is frustrating and a grueling process, but it is possible. Set the goal and make it happen.
Great buy if your willing to work.
This book is amazing. I was able to practice lots of the exercises in the book and learn neat tricks. Great for inspiring concept design artists.
very happy all around
saw the author's youtube tutorials online and then decided to get this book. wonderful book and received on time in great condition! bought two. thanks, I'm very happy to own this book as well as gift it to an artist friend. :)
Probably one of the best books for studying more technical drawing (environments
Probably one of the best books for studying more technical drawing (environments, industrial design, perspective). I think that combining this with more classical gestural techniques (Vilppu for example) would yield good results!
Must have
Scott and Thomas have teamed up to write the most useful book on drawing since The Great Andrew Loomis. it technical and artistic with so much to say.
This book is awesome on so many levels
This book is awesome on so many levels. I can tell Scott teaches this for a living. Gives a lot of insight that can be applied into various other fields of study. One of my favorite hardbacks.
A Must have for learning complex perspective sketches. A ...
A Must have for learning complex perspective sketches. A really helpful teaching tool to design for 2D and 3D.
Fantastic How-To Book
This is a well written, articulate, and concise book that guides the reader step-by-step through an exacting drawing methodology. If the steps and chapters are studied and practiced sequentially, great gains in one's drawing skills can be realized. It not only teaches you how, but more importantly trains the eye to visualize 3D form and space and translate that to a flat 2D drawing surface. Additionally, the embedded videos are a tremendous asset and compliment the more challenging subject matter beautifully. The world is full of talented artists but only a select few are gifted educators as well. Scott Robertson is one of those and his book, "How To Draw", is a rare jewel among many.
A Must Buy
Loaded with knowledge, a must by for any artist. The printing is top notch and there are loads of supplementary materials on the web for use with this book, too! Can't wait for Scotts next book!!
Great gift
Daughter loved it.
Another must have book for industrial designers
Another must have book from sensei Scott. A must have for all industrial designers, along with his rendering book
very good quality, very good price
very good quality, very good price, arrived on time, well packaged, all information disclosed about the product was very good, thanks.
Awesome!
This just happens to be the book every artist needs on their bookshelf. The book is packed with so much information that price alone is a steal.
"How to draw" and "How to render" are two must ...
"How to draw" and "How to render" are two must have books for any designer, painter, graphic artist, etc. Learn how to draw with correct perspective and realistic shadows, how to construct your design.
Best teaching materials available
I'm an art artist and I gave this to my brother to learn how to draw, since this book can teach him better techniques than I learned in art college
Extremely useful.
Very informative
It is really nice book with essential informations, and really good for students and teachers alike.
I am a visual art instructor in a private self run studio space. When I saw this book came out, I can't wait to get my hands on it. First of all, Love the quality of the print, not just some thin paper, it is actually heavy weight. I can really count on it, to teaching my students and use it for reference for the years to come. I am looking forward for the render and revisions update for more example to come. . Great info and simplify the concept of perspective. . Love all the examples, specially the medium part of chapter 10 . Love how you explain the drawing skill set in details and in different subject matters. Have only one suggestion, if there are any revision, can you included some extra empty space from the border of the book for jugging down notes and sketches? That will be great because all my student love to draw on the text book! Personally, I do not know the author, but greatly respect and admire of their works. Job well done!
Great book to learn from
Wow, this book is packed with details on how to use perspective and draw whatever you want. I have several other books on learning perspective but this book also includes his amazing design sketches which is fun to look at.
Great perspective
A fantastic and detailed explanation of different techniques and supplies that can be used when creating fantasy items and within perspective.
Scott Robertson is the best
Great instruction by a great instructor
Awesome Book!!!!
Scott Robertson has always been a huge influence in me (as a student of art). He skills and his words are one of the most inspiring. There will be two more books coming out from his press, can't wait! -Shun Xie

Awesome book, it gets right to the point in how-to draw what's in your head. Great exercises to help you get better.
Best perspective drawing book I've found.
I learned a bit about perspective from another of Scott's books, How to Draw Cars the Hot Wheels Way, but wanted to understand more about the mechanics of some of his constructions in that book. This book is much more detailed and very clearly and effectively explains every perspective construction you could need. As a design student, I'm excited to finally be able to visually realize the ideas in my head. Best perspective drawing book I've found.
How to DRAW!
Scott Robinson is a fine teacher who honestly knows his craft and You can't go wrong with anything he draws. Very cool.
Fantastic book!
A must have for anyone interested in learning the techniques for making great drawings! The multimedia content accessible through the book and related app is great. Fantastic book!
Great for beginners who wish to learn mechanical drawing
Great for beginners who wish to learn mechanical drawing. There also links for videos on how to draw as well inside. Detailed Instructions and what tools needed for this type of drawing.
Impressive!
This book is fantastic. Informative and instructive, with gorgeous illustrations. I'm impressed.
A Good Drawing Resource
An excellent drawing resource, great advice and helped me in my class.
I love this
Will consider this for my Advanced Intermediate Level Drawing students Perfect for both constructive drawing and fantasy/creativity Very good text
Aaaaahhhhh Yeeeaaaah!!
Ok, the book is a work of art, and fill with so much intel on the "Know How". It's in the direction of what i'm heading for in my art, and is an open strategy guide on the technical. Imagine yourself having this book because it's worth it. It has structure for anyone inspired to to do anything in art, no matter how big or small. Thank God for Scott Robertson & Mr Bertling for helping out anyone who wants to learn. It's cleverly put together, and creative. I know they have plans on creating a 2nd & I look forward to that. In short good stuff.
Excellent & Thorough Book
I've been looking for something this thorough for a while. I frequent youtube for instruction but piecemeal perspective just wasn't working for me. I appreciated the basics and stroke practices at the start. This book really dives deep into the details and technical aspects of perspective.. Be prepared to have to think and pay attention. Complaints: None, though I'm only 1/3 of the way through it.
Great for industrial design! Easy to understand
Awesome step by step construction techniques by Scott. Videos are awesome also! Great for any industrial designer or illustrator.
It’s got all it says it has lol
Wonderful book
Scott Robertson's "How To Draw"
This book should be in every single artists library. It is laid out in an easy to understand fashion, it covers deep fundamental art skills, and it includes links to videos on the internet that enhance the book. This is what education books should look like in the future. Scott's teaching method is clear and simple to follow, it is making art easier and simpler for me. Scott described this book as years of training and education put together for one "boxing match" of learning. This is dollar for dollar, pound for pound, one of the finest purchases for my art that I have ever made, including buying pencil and paper.

Good all the way!
Absolutely fantastic.
This book is fantastic. I'm an illustrator who also teaches at the college level. I'm considering making this a required textbook. If you want to learn perspective, this is the book. Unbelievably good.
Key to drawing in 3d!
This book is amazing! I went through the Gnomon Dvds by Scott Robertson awhile ago and learned so much from them. This book really helps fill in a lot of gaps and also helps reinforce the knowledge gained from the gnomon dvds. The Videos and app that comes with the book are amazing! Really liked the 3d models in the app as well. This book is the key to drawing with a sense of 3d. Glad i bought this and can't wait for the next book!
Great book
This book teaches you how to sketch, but it definitely requires patience and time to master such skills. For people who believe this will make you a van gough or da vinci, this would not, it teaches you fundamentals that bring you closer to this goal. This book explains things elaborately but at the end of the day its how much time you put in to practice the exercise. Great Book!
Excellent quality!
This book was wrapped carefully and came with very good price. I purchased this book for my friend so I didn't take any photo, but I did check the book when we unwrapped. Nothing to complain. Sorry I don't have much experience in reviewing items, so I say what I saw and felt ;).

Another winner from Scott. I plan on passing this ...
Another winner from Scott. I plan on passing this one down to my grandson.
I LOVE THIS BOOK!!
Anybody who is familiar with Scott Robertson's work and his gnomon dvd lessons knows that if this guy is writing a book on "How to Draw ",,,then it is not to be missed,,It basically starts with drawing materials that can be used and then the drawing lessons are covered ,,,there is a lot about perspective stuff.Mainly its a 3d way of drawing and if a person can learn to draw this way ,it becomes really easy to draw something from imagination from any angle which is difficult with 2d way of drawing.Scott also talks about it on youtube ,it is kind of a sneak peak into the book ,so people can check out his channel..I pre ordered this book from India,,the book was delivered before the estimated time and in a great condition,, thanks to Amazon.com

Must Have for Artists and Designers Who Want to Understand Perspective!
This book is awesome! The technique and principles are described well with examples and the additional tutorial videos online associated with the material are a fantastic addition. My only complaint is the occasionally dated and misleading terminology, but they're not stressed as being accurate anyway and don't really interfere with understanding the material.

This is the answer to my inquiry into quality, indepth instruction on Perspective.
Inspiring
I have read first three chapters so far in this book. I'm learning as much as I can.
Great beginning to the series
I say great beginning because this is the first of three books planned by Scott Robertson in this series. I believe the next books are entitled "How to Render" and "How to Design" and I estimate they will be available by Q2 2014 and Q1 2015 respectively. I purchased the hardcover copy. The quality of the book is first rate. (I compare it with two hardcover books I have by Koos Eissen

Great
A great book
Must have
I am a great admirer of Mr. Scott Robertson and I watched all his DVDs so many times and read books that can get. Very long time waiting, when this book will be released and finally I got it. Print quality is really high. There is so many nice drawings, photo references and explanation schemes that is very helpful. A lot of exercises required to build complex forms in perspective and environments are contained in the book. Many techniques can be applied not only in industrial design but also in the design of characters and creatures for instance, because the foundation is the same. In summary in the book there are all you should know about drawing of any form what you can imagine.
A must have for your library
Love these books - Scott is a true master of industrial design! Breaks down perspective and his process clearly. Priceless addition to my art book collection. Keep them coming Scott!

Amazing reference and professional appearance and layout.
An excellent beginner/ intermediate book
An excellent beginner/ intermediate book. This will acquaint you with the industrial design method of perspective which is incredibly handy to know (the method and techniques taught in the book lean toward each other strongly). The author makes very technical things very easy to understand!
