I Recommend!
Still reading but so far so good. I would recommend this book for beginners.
Good read. Informative for beginners.
Good informative book for beginners. I quickly came to realize what I did and did not plan to do through hoodoo and came to a pretty good understanding of the basics. I would recommend.
Right time, right book.
I purchased this book last month along with 3 other books with related topics in April of 2021. And while I won’t get too much into why I purchased this book, (mainly due to wanting to focus on the book and not myself), I will say that I barely glanced through it when I first got it. It is currently 3:23 AM, May 10, 2021, and I’ve decided to read 1 of 3 that I currently have. And the writer at the time mentioned she was 23 when she started to practice. I am 23 as well. Only 7 pages in, and this book gives me this ascension feeling. I can tell the writer, Angelie Belard has great energy. I immediately had to stop and post this specific page in order to show anyone who is interested in this book what they may be informed of. Angelie tells you the book is fundamental, and should you expect an academic book, then you should continue with your search because this is not that book. Basically, she says this book is her knowledge/and knowledge of practice when it comes to Hoodoo. I do believe that on this day, at this time, I was meant to read this book... Should I feel compelled to update this review, I will, and will do so thoroughly.
Awesome beginner book
I liked that this book suggests a lot recommendations and has spells and rituals you can do yourself. I didn’t like the part about the ammonia and adding it to your bathe but the whole book was really good. I truly enjoyed how the author gave a realistic view on love spells. Which is, they’re suppose to put you in the best position so you and your crush cross paths. I honored the part where the author said to be mindful of people with addictive personalities. Not only because these situations can go south, but it’s extremely unfair to the other person with this personality type. I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t know where to start.
some pagan / Wicca
As I was reading the book I couldn’t help but notice that there was a few things that seemed very pagan or Wiccan. With that being said I found some very interesting information regarding conjuring oils, however the author did not go into making powers. I went back and I looked at the chapter several times and there’s no information she just talks about making conjuring oils. With that being said anybody that practices magic knows a thing or two about candle Magic And how to incorporate or anoint oils on the candles with intent. I feel in a lot of ways the book was missing some important information And the author could’ve went into greater depth. As a wiccan myself, I find some aspects of the Hoodoo practice very intriguing, And I wish the author would’ve went into it more advanced instruction in the second book instead of isolating it into very specific areas.
A good introduction
In the tradition of indigenous initiation, this book offers guidance to help the reader access their own inner power. I really appreciate the repeated encouragement to follow one's own intuition, listen to one's own ancestors, and to allow for creativity and invention. This is the first book that I ever read about Hoodoo and I know I made the right choice, for it has opened my heart to receive wisdom and filled me with curiosity and wonder. I am also grateful for the cautionary notes and warnings. Although Hoodoo is powerful and healing, it is important to note that it is not a toy or a game, nor is it for the faint of heart. This Book is a good primer. Gratitude to you Mama Angelie this informative volume. I read it in two hours and I have a feeling I will be reading it over and over again....
Great for beginners, easy spells
I like that it gives the history and explains the spell, even if you don't read any other books you feel equipped, great book for beginners.
Love this!
Why does all this feels familar? I believe it ase. Thank you for bringing my ancestors medicine home to me. So grateful. Ase

Gentle, Casual, Like Mama
This book is written in a casual, optimistic, gentle, and inviting way with just the right amount of caution. The author has a way of feeling like that Hoodoo grandmother you never had. I've always had a weird relationship with the idea of Magic." On one hand, I'm an atheist, so I'm like "there's no harm in trying something mystical." It will either work or it won't sort of deal, but I'm always optimistic that it will. For being a non-believer I'm very open minded and WANT to be shown something to make me a believer. But on the other hand, there is that slight fear that maybe my atheist views are wrong, that there really are spirits and gods and magic out there and I'd be dabbling in something I shouldn't be. There are a few spells in here that give me that "I shouldn't mess with this" vibe, but there are also some simple spells that don't require chants or ingredients that give me that uneasy feeling. Something to get my feet wet and hopefully get something out of. Things that feel safe and harmless. Seems like the best of both worlds. Looking forward to giving some of it a try!
Great beginners book
This gem of a book teaches you everything you need to know about practicing Hoodoo. I learned so much. If you're interested in the practices of Hoodoo I highly recommend this book.
Finally a book written by an African American elder in the Tradition
To get a better understanding of hoodoo people should learn from African Americans born and raised in the tradition, because Hoodoo was created by enslaved black Americans. In the book, the author mentioned some information about basic esoteric concepts of hoodoo that is often times overlooked. Such as, why use certain ingredients, and the importance of the location is important, because every location has a different energy that can add power or take power from your spiritual work. I recommend this book for people wanting to learn hoodoo from a person born and raised in the tradition, and they learned it from their family and not online. This makes a difference, because the author learned hoodoo from her grandmother, which are the origins and secrets of this tradition, the African American family.
Bought hardcopy! Affordable!
Bought hard copy, enjoyed the quick skim and some recipes seem useful. Love the history and description. This author surpassed many other books I have sampled and is super affordable;
Great read
Good book gets to the point keeps you engaged and you learn. Finished it in 4 days not a big book but a good one..
Great Book
I really enjoyed reading this book and learning about Hoodoo. Very informative. I would love to learn more.
Enlightening
This book offers what I felt to be a user friendly yet authentic approach to hoodoo. It gives real insights and spells that are simple enough to understand and follow as a beginner. I felt like I was reading a message from a friend. Really enjoyed the read and took notes to keep as well. Recommend!
A great book for beginners to understand
It was a good read. Very understandable and easily to relate. I will be purchasing and reading the second book!
Great book!
This is a wonderful book. Beautifully written. I enjoyed it very much. I love the history and information in this book. It's simple yet very educational. I highly recommend it.
Perfect for beginners
It's an amazing hand book reference. Have been sending it out to P.O.C's 💜
Very easy to read and follow.
This was the most intriguing photo book I've read so far. I recommend it for all beginners
Great Book
The book is easy to follow. The print is the perfect size. I love how the author kept the book and spells simple & easy to follow. So much great advice in such a small book. I’ll be keeping it to refer back to in the future. Great book💜
Excellent book
After reading this book, I feel fast more conform in my understanding of hoodoo and the ways to truly begin practicing it.
Love!
I absolutely am obsessed with this book! I have read it at least 5 times. I have worked all the spells and when I tell you they work! They work!! It has been my go too book when I need matters done! Thank you for writing such an amazing book!!
Great introduction to Hoodoo
This short book provides a fantastic introduction to the practice of authentic hoodoo. It goes into the basics of rootwork and conjure as well as the history of hoodoo and how it differs from voodoo. I'm rather new to the subject so I really appreciate this book. At the same time, I also wish the book had even more information and went more in depth into the herbs and oils used in the practice. I hope the author writes a second book that gives us a more intermediate look, or that's a companion to this book.
Straight Forward Teaching!
Great fast read with easy to implement instructions for beginning HooDoo practitioners! I highly recommend this book to anyone interested!
Informative
Learned a lot and really looking forward to learn more. This book is extremely clear and helps get you grounded in hoodoo.
Great for beginners!
It IS for beginners, so a good rating for that reason. For anyone else, it is just too basic. Was hoping to possibly find a piece of new information, a little more history. But for the absolute beginner, it would be a great addition to their library.
Great Book
The pandemic has us all feeling like we live in a dark fairy tale. I would like to be on of the magic casting heroes and not the victim when this is true. I used to live in New Orleans for school, and always felt confused about tourist shops with Hoodoo jokes and candles in them. This book is great on information on how to respect the history and traditions of Hoodoo. It also dispels many false lies. I thank the author for her great history and cultural traditions book. Great Beginners Book
This is a simple read that gives so much direction, and encouragement. I would recommend this to all novice looking for a place to start.
More than just beginner level knowledge
I'm a Hoodoo practitioner and while I'm not a true beginner, I've been called on to help some friends recently and have been in search for good intro books to help them on their paths. I bought this book to see if it might be good to recommend to others and I actually learned a bit myself! I would highly recommend this book. Angelie covers all the basics plus a bit more advanced knowledge. It was very easy reading and I found myself finished with it in one sitting. It's for sure a part of my reference library now.
very insightful
Very insightful book and gives a good starting place. Also an easy read. I have even more questions than I started with now lol
Truly magickal journey!
I love everything about this book. Tons of wisdom and knowledge shared from a place of warmth. I look forward to reading more books by this enchanting author. Quick update: I did the Quick Fire Cash spell and omg…it worked the next day! I loved the book and kept an open mind, but this swiftness of the spell’s success left me flabbergasted. I can’t wait to do more spells. Ps: Love her writing style!
Damage but good
Mine came with some weird triangle cover up. I’m guessing it was damaged and they covered it. I can’t take it off but it’s okay :(
Perfect Book for Beginners.
This book is written in easy conversational language that explains the what, why, when and how of Hoodoo. Gives beginners an overview of what hoodoo is all about and includes simple spells to get your feet wet. Enjoyed very much and now I have some new spells or tricks to add to my collection! Thank you Ms. Belard
Really Good
I picked this up, as Halloween is just around the corner, and I like to do conjuring work around this time. I had never practiced Hoodoo, and in all honesty, I was a bit afraid of it. The author went a long way in removing my fears. She wrote well and explained what it was, the history, and the importance of what elements you use. I may just go with a simple white candle for Halloween, but this was still fun to read.
That Hoodoo That You Do
This was such a fun book that I've started following the author to make sure I see what else she's writing. This is her personal story about Hoodoo and how it affected, influenced and interacted with her life. She talks about and teaches things about spells and cleansing and so much more. You learn about rootwork, powders, oils, candles, colors, what to say, how to say it and what to do. It addresses so much that I just can't list it all. If you've ever wondered about magic, real magic, I highly recommend this book!
Genuine info and easy to read- helpful to Newbies!
So far I have enjoyed the way it reads...like it's coming directly from the writers mouth and I hear her voice. I appreciate the time and effort in making this book.
yes yes and yes
I’m new to hoodoo but very fascinated with it I was confused about everything until I read this instructions manual (what it should of been called)
Great book
I would recommend this book to anyone new to Hoodoo. The author does a great job of adding personal touches (example the references to her grandmother) in with the history of Hoodoo and how it is different than Voodoo. She gives much insight into the practice of Hoodoo (example when she references crossroads and graveyards). I learned alot about rootwork and am eager to put into practice some of her suggestions. I especially liked reading about the spells for protection.
History of Hoodoo!!
Learned some interesting history and details about spell craft ( it's origins here in the USA) and how the African people's, Native American, and European folklore/religions merged which I have always found interesting. If you were ever even curious about the word 'hoodoo' this is a great place to start. The book was also beautifully written and like you had a friend over for dinner spinning you the details over a glass of wine by the fire. I recommend the read!!
Great read!
Lovely, empowering, easy to read. Highly recommend!! I’d love to read more from this author in the future. So good!
Amazing read and easy to digest fro beginners!
I love this book for so many reason! 1) written by a black woman with actual HooDoo Roots 2) it’s a nice and easy read packed with so much information! Rootwork can be overwhelming but Angelie Belard breaks down the elements and need-to-knows leaving the reader confident in starting their craft 3) It cover all the questions of a newbie Highly Recommend
Easy read for beginners
Loved this book. I got through it in about a week of simple nightly reading. It wasn’t long enough if you ask me, but it was a great starter. Simple to read, well-thought-out explanations, and a few start spells as well as some tips and tricks. I recommend for a beginner looking for an easy read.
Loved it!
This book was a great read! It lays a great foundation. It’s organized for easy reference and had a very intimate and open style. The writer is knowledgeable and warn. I look forward to her future works and thank her for her contribution to this part of our spiritual history as African Americans.
A great read for beginners

This was perfect! It was an easy read, very easy to follow for beginners. It drew me in and it was so relate able. I almost finished it the day I received it. I have recommended this book to my family and friends that share this common interests. I can't wait to read her next book.
This should be your first book to have
Wow, this book is a must have!!!. I thought I knew what I was doing untill I read this book and discovered that there is so much I was missing out on. Example: first day spiritual cleansing bath second day spiritual cleansing bath and Third day spiritual cleansing bath. The ingredients to properly use and when and how and what, this book explains its all. Amazing book must have.
Welcoming and Informative
The gentle and encouraging tone makes this an easy read that allows everyone to grow into the power offered at their own pace.
Great for beginners and great introduction loved it !

Need a part 2 ! Great information . Everything was straight to the point . I can’t wait to try some of these spells
Invest in this book!
I do not want to put this book down and go to bed right now! I had to share how important this book is to new hoodoo practitioners. Please add this to your library! You will find yourself nodding your head and so in tune with what she’s saying! I definitely recommend investing into to this book!
Must read for anyone looking to up their meditation game.
If you're into crystals, energy fields, or anything related to personal spiritual growth this is a sound work for you to delve into. It provides detailed descriptions of various techniques, tools, and processes to help you meditate in a more directed way. If you're not into esoteric philosophy then it is still a great way to help structure your meditations and get more out of the practice.
To the point.
This book is a Hoodoo 101. The author gives clear-cut directions and straight to the point. She gives you direct and clear info on ingredients, spells and directions. I love and appreciate how the author keeps it short and simple. I'm looking forward to more of her books in the future.
Well Written and Interesting
I am not sure what I believe about Hoodoo, but I am certain this book is very well written and very interesting. It starts off with personal experiences that feel genuine from someone who grew up within the culture and reviews the history, which is fascinating. It then gives specific methods in clear detail. Overall, a quality book.
Great book!!!
Very much informative and gives good explanations and instructions on performing spells.
Interesting
This book makes you more about the hoodoo practice. Great for beginners
Love this book
She covered most areas in detail thank other books I have read of this nature. Thank you to the author
Great info for beginners!
Helpful and easy to read.
I love this book.
A lot of of information packed into a small book. I was fascinated with her life history and her grandmother. Very informative if you are just beginning to learn Hoodoo. I hope to learn more from this lady.
Great book
Good information to know, everything is step by step, love this book🖤
From an absolute beginner
This book was very helpful and informative. It provides a good groundwork to build off of if you’re like me and at the very beginning of your practice. One thing I wish would have been discussed is alternatives for ingredients that might not be available to all of us.
M-A-G-I-C-A-L!!!!
The Author and her book are absolutely amazing and so insightful. Blessed to have a copy.
A great companion for beginners of Hoodoo
I bought this book out of curiosity. I'm a little familiar with Voodoo and the Voudon religion, so I was curious about the similarities. It seems the biggest difference is in Voodoo, the Lwa plays a bigger part. This book was interesting and a great companion for anyone interesting in practicing Hoodoo.
Worth the read
Love love love love I don't really have anything else to say
Absolutely sensible magic
I come from a more formal school of the Western Hermetic Tradition, and it was an absolute joy to have the straight-talking, sweet-spoken words of Hoodoo wisdom for practical use. I'd recommend this tome for both beginners and the advanced. Powerful, well-written, well-said. Worth a read on every single page!
Five stars
Great read for a beginner. I love the beginner spells and the important tips that most people don't advise .
Educational
I read this book to find out what Hoodoo was all about. I found it interesting and educational. I can’t speak on whether the techniques will or will not work, but I feel I have a better understanding of this art.
Fantastic
I have practiced witchcraft for over 19 years now and found knowledge in this book I have never seen in all the many books I own. Fantastic and I highly recommend it for anyone breaking into a practice.
Good for Beginners
Very good book for beginners. I learned a lot and read it in a day. It has some spells in it to try and do. A lot of this will go into my Book of Shadows.
Best Hoodoo Book on the Market
One of the best Hoodoo books I have read in a very long time. I highly recommend it. I am purchasing her other books because I finally felt like this elder is actually giving an in-depth teaching.
Is this normal?
Book is upside down for part of it. Unique but hard to study (I write in my books)
Greatness
Love this book. Very simple instructions to follow and lots of info for beginners like me.
Perfect

Good book
This book did a good job at getting straight to the point. It have the key information needed to get start with our hoodoo practice.
Hoodoo for Beginners
The writing style was clear and simple, the information was sound and effective without all the over dramatizations other authors seem to have grown dependent upon when it comes to similar subject matter.
Excellence
Excellent...excellence and I shall continue my journey and continue reading studying growing learning and honoring my ancestors. I pray that our paths cross. Thank you.
THIS is a fun activity project I can get behind!
Got this to have some fun around the spooky halloween holiday but it's SO much more than I imagined. It's super educational, well written, and just fascinating. It's a wonderfully fun resource.
Buy this now
I absolutely adore this book and will keep it in my library for always. Angelie has organized and made hoodoo available to us all.
I'm Confused. HELP!
I have loads of questions. 1 with the onion spell. You place it in 4 corner in your home. But for how long? How do you dispose if it? The lucky cologne spell is incomplete. How do you get in touch with her to ask these questions. Some of the spells I have done questions its intruding instructions left out. Nice book but it's instructions are not clear.
Magical
Amazing book! I read the frist four chapters in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. It's all in the way she explains things and the energy you feel while reading it.
Interesting quick read
I've been curious about occult sciences for some time. And I like the fact this book really is newbie friendly. It explains the basics of hoodoo without being heavy handed.

Great book
Very good book. Explained well.
Great read.
I love this book.
Great information
Great information. Very entertaining.
Idk it’s too mysterious for me
It’s something about this book that’s seems artificial and made up idk
It’s no longer an interest but a lifestyle
Hoodoo for beginners was a very insightful and enlightening book. I enjoyed the breakdown. It was easy to read. I am truly a beginner and I’ve started using meditation and incense in my daily life. It has become a new way of life sort of a habit but more natural like washing your face and brushing teeth. I am learning about myself and the powers within. I look to the universe for my answers and power. Wonderful book.
Great
Well done book. Beautiful spells be mindful Hoodoo is a closed practice ONLY for AA people. I also would be mindful not to dabble with love spells.
Informative
This book offers a basic knowledge of the practice yet very informative. Love the story of the author and the love she has for her belief
So much good info in the book... But stay clear of the audiobooks.
This book was a treat for so many reasons but the audiobook was more than I could bare. The southern accent of a person who is not of our culture was disturbing to say the very least. Stick to the book leave the audiobooks alone.
Insightful
Easy read! Very direct! Quite knowledgeable! I have to say I enjoyed reading it. It was a quick read. Neat book!
Good Book
This book is a great read! Glad I found this book. Great details and I can’t wait to read the next one!
Must Read
If you’re a beginner like me I would definitely recommend
5 stars
Great read for beginners. I loved the advice and tips. It’s not a “tell all” book, but it’s guides you and pushes you to do your own research.
great
Great book very educational took me a few days to read but very interesting and informative thanks for writing a great book
Amazing read, easy to understand, delightful author
I really loved this book, it was extremely easy to understand and the information was abundant. Loved this author and I hope I can find more books by her and maybe someday meet her 💙
Amazing read
This is a relatively quick book to read through. Very easy to understand and gives a lot of insight. Definitely recommend if you’re into witchcraft.
Great book for African Americans
I love the book, a lot of the remedies my grandmother used so I was tickled because she was a “Christian”. However I do understand most of the things they do are based from Hoodoo practices. I wish it was a bigger guide because I enjoyed it. Our practices are exclusive to our community and very sacred to us. Thank You
Must read
I am greatful for such a diligent and knowledgeable guide... I will be reading this many more times.. thanks huge
Hoodoo is a closed practice
Was a great book to read and learn just sucks hoodoo is a closed practice.. be sure to do research before buying !
Amazing
It’s an amazing read and definitely should be kept and recognized daily. Keeps u refreshed and aware and definitely centered
I’ve had this book for 10 minutes and it’s already worth the money
My book just got delivered and I’m on page 10, the author has already given some info on her background and given a simple and quick money invitation spell. The text is a great size, I don’t even need to pull out my glasses. The cover has a lovely velvet finish. I’m very excited to keep reading and learning. Thank you ANGELIE BELARD
Enjoyable, endearing and easy to comprehend
I listed to the Audiobook and read from the pages. I love the way the Author has explained and respected the knowledge passed down through generations Hoodoo & also somewhat on Voodoo. She incorporates the Ancestral traditions with love & admiration. I’d definitely recommend it !
Reassuring, Inspiring, Enchanting
This book just took my hand and led me gently, calmly, confidently, into a conversation about magic and power from a Hoodoo perspective. It is absolutely as the title promises, "for beginners" in the very best way. The author doesn't talk down to you, she talks with you as though you're just a couple of friends sitting around the kitchen table. She is clear, she is wise, she is funny. She lays out the information logically and accessibly. At the end of the book I missed her. I missed her company. And I felt completely ready to begin. More than that, I felt excited about what I understood, about the fact that I understood it, and thoroughly seduced (in the most wholesome way) into beginning the journey of building my own practice. I would recommend this book, without reservation, to folks who are starting out in Hoodoo (as I am, although I am not at all new to magical practice). All books for beginners should strive for exactly this mix of clarity, conversationality, efficiency and practical advice.
Cultural Appropriation. The author/s are not African American
People complain that I write about Hoodoo even though I am half Afro-Cuban, and intiated in palo and Santeria (as well as being a Cuban Bruja). But this? It's a HORRIFIC scam! The first clue is that God and Goddesses are referenced (Paganism). The second clue is that I am seeing some of my work paraphrased along with other notable Hoodoo practitioners. The third clue? Angelie can't be found anywhere on the internet except on facebook (and association with this book). So, if it is true that she has had hundreds of students,, why are there only a few hundred people on that page? The recipes have Pagan influences and I believe that this is a combination of two white (Pagan) authors prostituting a black woman's photo. By the way? The face recognition aps only show the picture association with the bogus books. Three of my author friends and I have done extensive research and they concur. The voices of both books are not only pagan influenced but are inconsistent thus, telling us that it is 2 white authors posing as a black woman. SHAMEFUL!
Amazing read
I choose this book to get basic knowledge but felt like I was reading a great letter from a close friend. I couldn't action reading it and I am sincerely sad that I finished it. I am definitely going to look for more work from this author
LOVED This Book! 😊😊😊
Thankyou soo much to the author for explaining how all this stuff works. It can be hard to figure all this stuff out! I’m so excited to go and get moving along with all that is written here and will be purchasing some cleansing herbs first. I like how everything was explained for a laymen like me to understand it all! A lot of people that do this, just think everyone already knows and they forget to explain what may be obvious to them. Great book!
Informative and eye opening
The author did a great job on this book and I think the purpose was met and I look forward to seeing anything that has been written by her.
Amazing book
Wonderful, easy to understand book. Loved the content, very open instructions and easy to learn. I sat up all night in amazement.
The best book on Hoodoo I have ever read
The author does a wonderful job of explaining the reasons behind Hoodoo practices. She gives sound advice and excellent spells for all areas of life. I wish I could become one of her students. From cover to cover, all of the information in this book is presented well!!! I will be looking for this author in the future. Highly recommend!
Awesome book
This book is a very good read. Not only is it entertaining its also informative. I was led to this book from hoodoo tarot cards that I was purchasing. Just checking things out...I thought. After some digging I found out my ancestors were familiar with it. I am still learning and excited to get to my roots. Go ahead buy it. You won't be disappointed!!
Great book
I thought it was an amazingly interesting book. Wouldn't change anything. Thank you for sharing yours and your Grandmother's wisdom.
Baby a must buy
This is one of my favorites great book

This is a great intro to hoodoo for beginners what an awesome book!
Must have for beginners
Great informative book! Will definitely buy the paperback. As a beginner I appreciated how she explained everything in simple terms
Good, basic info for beginners!
Liked this book so much!
Great read.
I love the examples and explanation of each spell. Easy to understand. I would definitely recommend to a beginner to hoodoo.
a little bit memoir with a lot of knowledge
I loved this book and tickled pink I found it. As a student of world religions, including hoodoo and voodoo, I was very pleased to read as Angelie Belard compared the two to each other and included myths and misconceptions before diving further into what separates them. Belard also touched on the bases of how hoodoo works in a world of Christianity. Most importantly outside of facts and folklore is Belard's own relationship with HooDoo and how it was passed down to her and she embraces and practices it to this day. The author herself will tell you to read with an open mind, let her explain things, and then you can decide for yourself what hoodoo can do in your life. Fantastic out of the ordinary non-fiction I am happy I added to my collection.
Great intro to hoodoo!
I opted to read this book to broaden my knowledge of other practices related to magic and spell work, as I follow a life of craft. I was not surprised to see so many similarities between Hoodoo and witchcraft, and found myself enlightened by the differences, which were few. Whether you read this book because this path is one you feel is yours to follow or just to know more about it in general, it’s informative, honest and insightful. I will be incorporating some of these spells and rituals in my own practice. It’s a great introduction piece. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
good read
the book resonated enough for me to want to look for more of the authors books about the subject matter and dig deaper in general to begin practicing.
Great Book
Hats off to the author. This is the first book I have read from beginning to end. Please read this book. She talks about rituals, spells, and so much more. She gives you history and bring it to life.
Loved it!
This was an eye opening book one I did not put down until the end. Being a Hoodoo Practitioner is my calling. Thank you for the enlightened.
Easy to understand
Very easy to navigate and helps a lot for beginners. There are beginner things in here that are very easy to do.
Insightful
This author know what they are talking about. Very interesting read. I saw the ingredients in my grandmother cabinet in another way; she was part Haitian; make sense now lol.
Love it
Good read couldn't put it down and very easy to understand for beginners highly recommend would love to read more of her work
Very insightful!
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to learn more about hoodoo tradition as a beginner! This book is helping me through my journey and will be helpful throughout!
Easy for beginners
loved the book alot of information if your just starting out with spells.
Good read
Loved it!! Very descriptive and easy to understand. She breaks down the meaning and history which is very important today! Hoodoo is life!
I loved this book.
Book was amazing . I learned so much and gave me a great understanding on what hoodoo really is .
Very nice book!
I really enjoyed reading this book. The book is full of knowledge and information, but still an easy read. Thank you Ms. Belard for a wonderful book.
Hoodoo for beginners
This is a wonderful book. I enjoyed it very much. The spells were easy to use and I really liked the rootwork. This is quite appropriate for the beginner who wants to study and use conjuring. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in beginning and understanding hoodoo.
This was like a personal essay about Hoodoo and definitely not a guide to follow.
I’m not sure how so many people have rated this book so highly. The historical and cultural explanations of Hoodoo and why she practices were rushed and lacked depth. Her “origin story” felt very anime-ish “I didn’t study, or wasn’t initiated Ive just always had these powers....” hmm that seems a bit far fetched and sadly ive heard many stories like this when dealing with the esoteric. This book left so much to be desired and a lot of the basics were rushed over and or simply left out. As another reviewer pointed out she doesn’t mention key things in purification and cleansing when preparing to conjure. ALSO DO NOT USE AMONIA FOR A FLOOR WASH. I’ve never heard of this in all my years and this was the point that really made me start to question the advice given in this guide. Her writing style is easy to digest and felt like a conversation with an elder. Just because someone is older it doesn’t always make them wiser. Would advise anyone truly interested in Hoodoo to read various books and compare and contrast information before beginning to conjure.
Hoodoo is a CLOSED practice
I'd give it a zero if I could I've never bought the book however Hoodoo is a CLOSED practice and should not be in a spell book
Okay, just not my cup of tea
Interesting and the writing style was okay, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. Thought some of the 'so called' magical spells were really far fetched.
Hoodoo Basics
This is a nice introduction to hoodoo. The author's personal story is engaging. She clearly distinguishes the practice of hoodoo from voodoo. It is a non-threatening presentation. She discusses the history, practices, and ingredients. Instructions for spells, baths, oils, and washes are included along with instructions for creating mojo bags. The explanations are clear and require no difficult techniques or obscure ingredients. Well done.
Amazing
Just ordered this book it arrived today and I cannot put it down. 10/10 there definitely was a reason beyond my knowing of why I was drawn to this.
Good book
Good read and well written easy to fallow and all the Craftwork is accurate
Quick easy read and full of awesome knowledge
I loved this book! I'm new to hoodoo and excited to start my journey. This book was full of great information. It was easy to understand and the way she wrote was like sitting with my grandma hearing her tell me stories and teach me something. I finished this book in like an hour qnd i was almost sad it ended so quickly. Great great book
Awesomely Informative Read
This book was everything I needed at the time I needed it. I am confident in my ability to further explore with some sort of notion of “which way to go”.
Satisfied with purchase
Very informative and easy to read. The author did an excellent job with the information she shared in this book. I would recommend this book
Awesome!
Definitely recommending this to anyone of the African diaspora that's interested in learning about this folk practice. She knows how to communicate effectively and also keep your attention as well. I truly adore her cleverness when it comes to this path. ❤️
Clear Concise and Everything is promises to be.
This book is easy to understand, and hard to put down. She teaches this subject in such a way that it feels like reading an interview or listening to my grandmother talk.
Trove of knowledge
Easy to read and understand, a real attention grabbet with a lot of valuable information that a newbie or a novice can pick up on. 10/10 would recommend
What a wonderful book!
Absolutely love this book! I have both the paperback and the audio book, it's that good. It's the kind of book I plan to read twice (just about to start my second read), because there's plenty to digest. I hope Ms. Belard continues to write books on this subject, because I would read every single one!
BUY IT!
This is one of the few books I have gotten that I couldn't put down! The style of writing and understanding she puts into this is amazing. LOVE THIS BOOK, buy it and buy it now!

BUY THIS BOOK!
I am so happy I found this book! She writes in a clear way for a beginner like myself to understand. She’s very detailed.
Connection
As a person with deep roots, who would I be to not own a copy of this book. Even if I didn’t intend on reading it. Which, I am. It’s very reasonably priced. The book isn’t long winded. Straight to the heart of the matter. Haven’t gotten too far yet. This book is enjoyable to say the least. Mama Estelle sounds like a wonderful women. Ase to her. Lovely book. Thank you to Angelie Belard. It’s funny too. A lot of these things I do myself naturally. I have a white cloth next to my bed with a candle. And so did many other non practitioners I knew. The more you know :)
Excellent and very informative
I loved that the spells were there and ready. I loved that they are easy to follow. Great read for those barely starting out
If you’re white, don’t practice this!
Hoodoo is a closed practice for black people or people of West African descent only :)!
Great
This is a great book, learned alot
Great digest
I like very informative.
Information that is easy to digest
This books is so well written that I must say is one of the best books out there if you're starting your magical journey
.
This book is really nice
Anyone thinking of looking into Hoodoo should read this book.
This book is amazing! It teaches you about Angelie, how she grew up with her craft, how the craft can affect you, how to start out and find your way. Most 'beginners' books dont do that, theyre clinical and unhelpful, whereas this is heartfelt, warm and helpful. It guides you and shows you, it doesnt just coldly tell you... I was a preview reader and had already got others waiting for the book to come out, o had been singing its praises so loudly and proudly... Anyone thinking of looking into Hoodoo should read this book.
Great read.
I have finished this book already and it was a great read full of handy tips and drawing on personal experience from the author opposed to some books out there that repeat the same internet found information. Highly recommend.
Hoodoo for beginners
