Instapoetry. Maybe it's me but here are my thoughts!

A gentle reminder that this is just my opinion and that if you love this author you should try the book out for yourself! The good reviews are overwhelming so rest assured that a lot of people liked it but if you're looking for something more critical, here I am! I remember loving Milk and Honey so I'm not sure if I just grew out of my Instapoetry (usually a line to a few lines saying something like "He loved me but he was too late. I already found love in myself." Very simple. A lot of the time too simple.) phase or if this book just completely missed the mark. The writing just fell so flat. Especially the short ones. The longer ones gave more emotion and I enjoyed those but it was definitely outweighed by the littered Instapoetry that felt so empty. It felt like it was trying so hard to be deep that it almost seemed ridiculous. Maybe it's just me, which is okay. Happy that people enjoyed the book though and that she's getting support. I know you won't love everything a creator puts out. Looking forward to any other work she'll put out!

*Deep Sigh*

Honestly I’ll start by saying I don’t understand how any poet can just decide that they get to define what “real” poetry is. That’s tired. That aside, I am about halfway through this book and like always, it’s like I’m living outside of myself when I read her work. Her honestly and commitment to writing in the way our minds often float through thought is beautiful. The way she takes us on a journey of healing and is always speaking through her own lens, is the type of openness I love to indulge in when consuming poetry. I have moments of being in FULL tears and feel myself mending with the pages only to unravel again. And that’s okay. Her work reminds me that the process of feeling is okay and just right no matter how it happens. Love this and will probably gift it to a few women in my life.

Shimmering gold in every page

She might not be for everyone. And she doesn't claim or try to be. I love that. And for me, she speaks into my heart, the very depths of me. With every turn of the page I fall deeper in love with her words, and how she expresses the silent, still, parts that live inside all of us, true to the feminine experience. I can't recommend this book more than saying I received it today, read the entire thing, and will continue to read it over and over. I will not loan it out (something I do with ALL books), instead I will buy it for all my women, and favorite men who can receive her words with an open heart. Again, she might not be for everyone. But she IS actually for everyone. If you're there. You're there. Until then, move on. When you're ready, come back, to the alchemy of these words into golden nuggets of life wisdoms. You'll know when it's your time. When you're willing to hear that you are enough.

Rushed

I’ll probably be the only one to say this but I feel as though maybe rupi Kaur felt a lot of pressure to write another book to appease her fans. This book seemed rushed and some things were a let down. And after reading that rupi writes about issues women face but some that she may not have personally experienced takes away from us that have gone through those things . Like how can you write about a pain we went through with just one or two sentences . I’m very saddened by this.

makes you feel all emotional inside

couldn’t disagree more with the salty reviewer. i got this book delivered and opened to a random page and immediately connected and felt so emotional - and the feelings remained as i read a few other random ones (quickly before i had to go to work haha). this book is filled with beautiful poems and i highly recommend it to anyone who loves rupi’s other work.

Read her other books instead

I loved her other books and have read them many times so I bought this novel excited for another deep dive into her poetry. This book did not give me any of the feelings I felt reading the other books. There were a few good poems but most of the Poetry was preachy and unrelatable. Some poetry was a single sentence on her political beliefs. Waste of paper for one sentence. The book talks about saving the planet while it is ironically a waste itself.

Good book

The book was not like milk and honey, which I adore. However, it was her style and the poems had meaning and a lot to say. There where more poems for the power of women and some political themes. I would definitely recommend for people to read this book. All of her poetry books have been beautifully written and illustrated. I look forward to more of her work in this modern age.

Embody Your Woman Glory

Rupi Kaur’s third collection of poetry "home body" (perfectly titled) is an exploration of self-love, a struggle with mental illness, and a renewal of a woman-spirit bruised by abuse. This collection is an intimate conversation with Kaur and herself, that we were privileged enough to be invited to observe. I especially enjoyed this collection because we see the process in Kaur’s evolution, maturity, and growth as we fly through the pages. She begins in a depressed state, and ends up in a healthy place, basking in her own beautiful individuality. The most import part of growth is the sticky middle – the seesaw between sadness and the desire to feel better. Kaur explores this in the middle of this book where she’s struggling to pull herself out and separate herself from her pain. In this section, she goes up and down – one poem feeling depressed and empty, and then she empowers yourself on the very next page. “i’m in the darkest room in my life” And just a few pages later, “i am loving myself out of the dark” Kaur talks about depression and abuse in a real and brutal way. She talks about her own experience of sexual abuse at a very young age. These poems are painful and difficult to read. Her confusion mixed with introspection, so many years after some of these incidents, is interesting because it shows the long-term effects of trauma. You can tell that she’s processed these feelings, and at this point she’s just sick and tired of the stigma and the pain that followers her. Kaur talks about feminism in an authentic, relatable way. She expresses her exhaustion and frustration with this concept as well. Her approach is similar to that of her struggle with abuse, and therefore interconnected. She’s a woman tried and beaten down by misogyny, racism, and her experiences. Yet, with everything that’s riding against her, Kaur managers to pick up her remains, and move on with a beautiful and enchanted life. She doesn’t let her abusers take away her childhood or she child-like spender for life. Kaur presents self-acceptance, self-appreciation and self-love in a new and refreshing way. We’ve all heard these themes before, but they mean more here since we seen the process from the beginning of this collection to the end. We see how down and destroyed she felt in the opening pages, so appreciate and understand her journey. The concepts of having patience, being still, and destroying expectations and over productivity lead Kaur to the peace she’s fought hard to achieve. She focuses on the balance between fighting to gain control over your life and letting go of reins and rediscover herself in all her glory. “there is a conversation happening inside you pay deep attention to what your inner world is saying” Enjoy some of my favorite quotes from "home body", “why do i let my mind get under my skin i am so sensitive” “i’m too in love with my life to be spilled all over the floor for the next man who gives me butterflies” “masturbation is meditation” “i want someone who is inspired by my brilliance not threatened by it” “[I] accepted that happiness has nothing to do with feeling good all the time” “i want to leave this place knowing i did something with my body other than trying to make it look perfect” “be here in what needs to be done today –that’s how you honor tomorrow” “nothing tastes better than being on your owner side”

An absolute letdown,,,,

Rupi has gone from writing heartfelt poetry in Milk and Honey to this self righteous book of endless complaining. This entire book is a cross between three liners you'd expect on inspirational posters to finger pointing to every man and white person in the world. She informs men they know nothing of women while offering her so-called expertise on men on every other page. This was not written to sell books as much as it was to lay the groundwork for her inevitable man-hating, white-hating, capitalism-hating, speaking engagements. And why not? They're more profitable to both her bank account and her ever-expanding ego. I normally read her books and pass them on. I threw this rubbish in the lake behind my house.

She does it again. Amazing !!!!!

I absolutely love and adore Rupi Kaur. I love all her books. This one is just as amazing as the other two books. Her books are the kind of books you finish in one day because you can't put it down. My only complaint about this order was that I preordered it and I got it a day after the release. I really wanted to read it when it came out. But nope I had to wait a whole day.

not poetry

If you know what an Instapoet does then you already know what to expect from this book. Kaur continues the same formula she uses on her previous two books and why mess with it? It sells but that doesn't necessary mean it's quality. Most of the so called poems are trite and empty enabling the reader to read themselves into every one. Instapoetry is a mirror and cotton candy for those that want to scroll by to the next reality star or selfie. That's not to say it's all bad but it's not really good. There is a difference in poets that work on their craft and win writing awards than Instapoets. It's its own thing which is ok but that's all it is.

Seems like a different person wrote this one

I liked the first two books a lot more, to be honest. Some of the poems in this one seem like they are just plays to the audience. There is an entire section of poems on working too hard and I just picture her instagram story of her on the floor, drawing pictures and arranging them, with no real deadline for anything, and compare it to when I have work stress... and it makes me wrinkle my face in suspicion that she really feels this way.

Buy it!

As with everything else from Rupi, this book is deeply resonant, healing, and powerful. It makes me feel proud to be a woman, supported in sisterhood, and though the world seems heavy, it helps me feel hopeful for the future. Incredible story. I am giving 5 stars here for the book, however I ordered two copies and one the cover came with a large scratch across the top. Obviously not the authors fault so I won’t lower my rating, as I don’t want it to reflect on her. But the seller and Amazon need to be more mindful and carful with books, no new books should have imperfections such as that. I bought two to give the second as a gift, will be keeping the one with the scratch for myself an gifting the good copy.

Eh…

This book was a bit of a let down, I’ve read Rupi’s two other books and enjoyed them both but this one did not give me the same feeling as the other two. As others have stated, the majority of the poems are extremely short and simple and really a waste of space and time. Some of the longer ones fell flat as well and left me underwhelmed. I was honestly shocked at the 5 starts this book has and all the amazing reviews, either these people are not being honest out of love for Rupi or they’re just really easy to please, but this book was not her best work and barely passes for good work. I hope she takes her time and truly digs deep for her next book, because this one missed the mark.

LOVE Rupi

Just as I felt about the first two books, I absolutely adore Rupi and her poetry. She pulls her heart out and shares everything with you in her unique form of poetry writing. Highly recommend reading this book of poems as well as her first two books.

It was okay

So I love Rupi. I have read all of her books and I follow her on Insta. I'm apart of her emailing list. But I feel like this book was more cathartic for her. I did not enjoy it as much as book 2. I sat and read it in less than an hour it felt so short and lacking. It was good, just not great. Maybe borrow from the library, I would much prefer buying The Sun And Her Flowers.

Good Read

This book was easy to read and I enjoyed it but it didn’t resonate with me like her 2 previous books. I enjoy that she talks about her experience about being molested which is something that you don’t really hear from most poets. I recommend but I feel like there was “something” missing. Maybe more context to fully capture the essence of her poems.

Meh

Milk and Honey was amazing. Rupi still writes some gems, but they are less and less. She doesn't seem to be evolving so much as just recycling stuff from Milk and Honey and publishing again and again. Hopeful for some fresh and new things soon. This collection sounds just like the last two with different drawings.

Feels rushed

Im a big fan, went to see her live even. Read her other books in one sitting, and this one was the longes read ever! Considering some poems are just one sentence, you’d be surprised what a slow read that is. I really think she did a disservice to herself in publishing this book. It didn’t feel a damn thing reading this. Bummer.

Beautiful book 📖

Pros: Loved this book! Came in great condition, I related to lots of the poems, and some of me even made me think in different perspectives of different things and see them in a new light. So it really helped me kinda get on track with myself!:) The art is also beautiful. Perfect for someone who likes (love/self care/relationship/etc) poetry. Cons: some of the poems are also insta poet like. Which im not saying it's not poetry, I'm just saying it kinda feels empty and rushed. But only a few are like that, that I just didn't connect to.

Not Rupi’s best

I really enjoyed Milk and Honey as well as The Sun and Her Flowers, I expected to equally love this as well. I have to say I was underwhelmed. This was ok, but it was lacking an emotional connection for me. I feel like a lot of it was incomplete and unfinished, and I kept waiting for it do do something for me, it was just a bit flat and dry.

Straightforward Poetry

What I love about this book, is that it stays just as consistent as when I fell in love with her initial book, Milk & Honey. Rupi Kaur just knows how to touch a person's emotional shell and really force them to absorb her thoughts. Unlike Shakespeare (whom I am a fan of too), Kaur doesn't have to include as much wording in her poems to make her points plain to the reader. Kaur has taken a new initiative to poetry as if I'm having a conversation with a close friend or family member. I always love that with her words, the images could not speak any louder if they tried. She helps me to deal with and reflect on personal things I can empathize with her on as well. Love her work!

Raw, real, relatable great read ,

I just received this book yesterday and im already half way through it. I love Rupi Kaur. She is such a great poet. This book is very raw, real and so life. It is a must read.

Queen Rupi does it again

I have been such a fan of Rupi from the beginning and I think she only gets better and better! She has a way of sucking you in and transporting you to emotion land where everything gets deeper and more powerful. I am such a huge fan and love that she is entirely self made! This book is a beautiful treasure <3

Perfect!

I finished this book in one hour! I could not bring myself to put it down, this book was wonderful! Perfect for any poetry lover or anyone who is going through self image problems, grief, loss! This book is giftable and just an all around great read, highly recommend!

Thoughtful and empowering

This short book is full of thoughtful and empowering short poems. A must in any woman's reading collection. I bought the other Rupi Kaur books, Milk and Honey and The sun and her flowers. Also great books. Fast reads, full of empowering and thoughtful poems.

Very Enjoyable

Great poetry is good for the soul and Rupi does it again with Home Body. Her thoughts are soulful and hopeful. A person’s journey and what they reflect back to the world is to be appreciated and I appreciate this great work of art.

beautiful poems

I’m super particular with my books in terms of how they look and are treated. The bottom of the spine was dinged by the time I got it. Luckily, it wasn’t too bad but I was hoping it came as it should, pristine. Anywho... her poetry is beautiful, this one competes with her first and blows her second out of the water.

Just incredible. As always.

Rupi steps it up again with an amazing poetry book. The power of her words, the emotions, the healing. She truly is a remarkable woman and poet.

Not for moi.

It's less poetry and more like a book of statements. I read this and didn't think it was poetry.

This book needs a Trigger Warning.

TW: I love Rupi Kaur! I only wish she would have put a disclaimer or Trigger Warning for the content. I love her poems and the way this book it organized. Reflecting on her words is emotional and interesting.

Beautiful read

All her poetry is amazing as usual. This one wasn't as good as her first 2 but still really good. I guess it just depends on what you're going through at the time. I've definitely felt a lot of what she wrote in Home Body at some point in my life.

Rupi Has Done it Again!

Something about Rupi Kaur is just so relatable and touching!! Her writing is phenomenal. This book, while it was a quick read, as most poetry novellas are, struck so many chords in my soul! It latched on to me and will not let go. Rupi we love you, and are already looking forward to the next book!!

Empowered

Another great one by Rupi Kaur!!! I loved the way she challenges you to find all the greatness that is inside you without resorting to what society idea of you should be! I think this my favorite work of hers so far!

Beautifully made

Her poems are always so relatable and empowering. She makes some bold choices in some of her writing that I really appreciate. This book is just as amazing as the other two she has written and I would recommend it to anyone who likes poetry. Beautifully made.

Please allow me to give 10 stars.

I love rupi kaur. She’s on damn point with her books and she writes in such a way that it brings up emotion inside of you. You are feeling or remember feeling the way she expresses the love, pain, heartbreak, happiness, etc she’s felt. Buy it. I’ve purchased 4 copies. 3 girlfriends and myself now own it.

Honestly, it’s depressing

I bought this book because I read a few pages online and I liked a few of the poems. Honestly it’s very depressing. I understand that this is her story and her feelings and I relate to a few of them but the rest in my opinion will drag you down even more if you’re already depressed. If you are feeling depressed purchase a self help book that will motive and inspire you this is not it.

Homey familiarity

I‘m enjoying it. It is very much like her first book, Milk and Honey, which I have a great deal of appreciation for. It is about as long as the first book as well, in comparison to her second book, The Sun and Her Flowers, which was about twice the length. If you liked Milk and Honey—get this one!

An Awakening

Each page opens your thoughts about yourself, others & life itself. Expression on bits & pieces of people. Reflecting on all chapters that make up the story of life.

A great read.

A great read when you feel like you can’t relate to anyone. The quality was great as well no faded pages or dinged corners.

Highly, highly recommend

I devoured this book. I'm a big fan of Rupi's work and Home Body exceeded my expectations. It was a poignant, powerful, and relatable. I've already purchased a copy for a friend. Thank you, Rupi.

An enjoyable read for fans of her previous works.

A lovely book, and an enjoyable read with a cup of coffee. There were some poems that did feel “on the nose,” however, there were many I enjoyed that resonated with me, too.

Right on time

This book came right on time. I am so grateful she has shared more of her perspective with us once again. Thanks Rupi. I've sent it to friends for them to read too, great gift

Printing alignment is completely off.

I am not reviewing the content of the book, rather the quality of the printing. This book is a very visually stimulating book and it's a shame that mine came completely printed out of alignment. So bad that some of the page numbers are cut off and there is .25" of un-printed areas that were intended to be full page bleeds. Even the cover is not printed correctly. Every single page is out of alignment. Very disappointed.

Touches the heart

The "bowl of mind" is swirling content and my heart is beating with a rhythmic calm after reading this book in such an anxiety-filled pandemic.

Homebody

"After feeling disconnected for so long my mind and body are finally coming back to each other- home body" 🖤 This book is beautifully written - every page carries on the visionary of what it means to endure trauma especially sexual trauma. Almost each page resonates with me especially p. 31. If you know, you know. Thank you, Rupi Kaur, for continuing to shed light on our collective truth.

Great book

My daughter read this book in one night, and while the sexual abuse does not apply to her, she ups still relate to most of the book.

Raw & brave.

Without fail, each of Rupi’s books speak different truths in myself. Trauma, love, self-love, doubt — we all have our own story, different and similar in many ways yet she has the ability to capture inner-most thoughts and put them out into the world with poise. It is always a pleasure

Love All of Her Books

Once again another amazing poetry book written by Rupi Kaur! She is my favorite poetry artist.. her short poems just always speak to me in a way that other writers do not always. She is very relatable and speaks her mind and heart.

Beautiful book

Once again, Rupi knocks it out of the park. Beautiful third book by her. Highly recommended all 3 of her books.

Easy to read, deep words

Another success from Rupi Kaur. Milk and Honey will always have my heart, but this was a great companion piece

A well-chosen gift

Purchased as a gift for my adult daughter and discovered that she had considered ordering it herself. So we were both happy

Simply beautiful

This book of poems explored all different emotions that I have been able to appreciate more. Rupi’s words were realistic, simplistic, and powerful enough to be heard in the back of your mind while reading. A very strong famine force. Every part of this book made me appreciate life more. Fantastic 10/10

Idk how to feel...

I am a huge fan... her last two books were amazing BUT idk what it was about this book that I didn't completely love.It is a good read tho!

Home Body for a home body

About a third of the book came unbound from the rest of the book just after I opened it to read it. Other than that - “Home Body was amazing. I relate to it so much. I love all Rupi’s books! My favorite is “Milk and Honey” - that’s when I fell in love with her work!!!!!!

Another Phenomenal Book of Poetry!

Rupi Kaur is my favorite modern poet and she delivers once again with this collection.

Get it at the Libary

Like other commenters, this work seemed rushed and all over the place really...although its important to note that I am in a much better place than when I first discovered her work. It's possible that it doesn't hit the same because I'm not the same. I would still look at her new works as she comes out with them to determine this however.

Good price

Great price, good quality, very fast shipping my daughter loves these books

Incredible poetry book

This is an absolutely beautiful book. I have all of Rupi Kaur’s poetry and this one definitely did not disappoint. The four sections of this book include, mind, heart, rest, and awake. All of which are incredible. The poems are so beautifully executed and if you are even thinking about getting this book I 100% recommend.

Great read

Read it in one day. Beautiful book. No surprise there. I love her work.

Do yourself a favor and order this book!

The perfect way to heal your soul

She always has the most beautiful words. Read it with some nice wine, curled up under a blanket on a Sunday.

It was cool

Favored the second part most. People (the critics) should focus less on stanza structure and more on word means and analysis. Poetry is not linear.
