Fantastic addition to the HiLo Series!
This is the fifth book in the HiLo series. My son and I both read these and really love them, we buy them immediately when they release. This latest installment was very fun and we both loved it. In this book we get to journey back to HiLo’s home world and finally learn what really happened there. Meanwhile back on earth, a robot D.J. and HiLo are causing all sorts of trouble at school, while the government continues their efforts to track down “comet-boy”. This story was a little more spread out than previous books. We jump between Earth and HiLo’s home world. I love the quirkiness and humor in these books, they always make me laugh. I also enjoy the creativity, brightly colored illustrations, the characters, and the story. Overall this was a fantastic addition to the HiLo series and I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. I would recommend to those who enjoy funny, action packed science fiction graphic novels.
I would give it more stars if I could
Judd winick, you are my hero! I love hilo so much, I dressed up as him for halloween. Whenever I finish reading a hilo book for the first time, I cry because I really want to know what happens next! Thank you so much for putting your time, effort, and OUTSTANDING-NESS in to al of the hilo books. Keep writing! Toby
Fun for a 2nd grader.
My 8 year old grandson loves this series. It was recommended to me by a young girl sitting on the floor reading the series in Barnes and Nobles. Unfortunately they didn't have this one so I bought it on line. My grandson read the whole Harry Potter series the end of 2nd grade but the graphic novels are just fun. I remember loving comic books as a kid and it didn't harm my love of reading.
Better than candy, toys or electronics
My kids received this book today, and separately almost have it finished. They love the Hilo series, and this one definitely lives up to the hype. I think I just received the mom of the year award for preordering this book!
One of the best kids graphic novels out there.
I love this series. We started reading them to our son when the first one came out. They are funny and exciting and the story twists as it develops. When I reads these to our kids, there are laughs, cheers, and groans alike. No other series elicits as much emotional reactions as Hilo.
Grandaughters loved this series!
When 7 and 5 year old granddaughters were visiting as a treat I took them to a bookstore. Older one picked out book 1 She had not heard of it before and neither had I. When she got back to her home (out of state) the family finished reading the book and she told me on FaceTime that she wished she could read more of it. I immediately found the rest of the series on Amazon and had them sent to her! She and her sister have been excited to have them.
Excellent!
The 5th Hilo book certainly did not disappoint! My kiddos love it as much as the previous 4 and are already asking when the next comes out. Hilo will always hold a special place in my heart because these were the first books my child with dyslexia willingly read and enjoyed. He actually introduced the series to his brother and sister(neither of whom has dyslexia), and they loved them too. Can't wait for the next one!
My son loves reading this book.
My son is 7 years old. He has been reading the previous Hilo book series. He has been read it over and over again since he get the book yesterday.
Love these books
Love these book! My son brought the first one home from the library and my daughter read it too. They went through the first four books then my daughter asked if there was a fifth. We preordered this one and it was read that night.
The Next Awesome chapter in the Hilo saga
The next chapter in the ALL ages series. Each book has exceeded the previous ones. Seriously, a fun series to share with your kids, grandchildren or your next door neighbor who is having a bad week

Good values for 2021!!
I loved the book and have been reading and discussing all the Hilo books so fare with my grandson! He is 9 and lives in NJ - I am in TX. I have been unable to visit in person in almost a year due to COVID-19 so this helps us stay connected!! All of the Hilo books have been very good, nuanced and teach values of diversity and acceptance!!

A Hit!
Grandson got lots of expensive interesting goodies for his birthday and started reading this immediately.
Son not complaining so 2 thumbs up
My 8 yr old son loves these books and we pieced together the series and this was the one missing. Cheaper to buy new than used book store and $3.99 shipping for multiple day wait. Had this in our collection 2 days after ordering. He’s more than 1/3 of the way through it so no complaining is a big deal.
Great Book for kids!
My son is not a huge fan of reading. But this series of Hilo books have him hooked. Finished it in one day!
We adore the Hilo books
My 8yo and I have been reading the Hilo books together for a couple years, and we love them. They're full of humor and heart. It's such a fun story, and we can't wait for book 6.

A 9-year old Favorite
I purchased this entire series because my grandson loves it. What more is there to say?
Entertaining radical nonviolent conflict resolution!
Hilo offers a radical perspective on nonviolent conflict resolution that is sorely needed in the bloody zero-sum political calculus of today’s world. Plus, kids love it!!
A boy, a girl, and an amazing robot
Our kid loves these books and he isn’t the easiest to please with books.

My girl (almost 6) and I devoured Book 5 almost instantly! If you haven't read the others in the series, grab a bowl of popcorn and block out your afternoon. Too good to put down, engaging and relatable characters, fast-paced plot. I tell everyone about Hilo!

Quirky, Humorous, and Fun
HiLo: Then Everything Went Wrong is a quirky read that is at times humorous, at times serious, but always remembers to have fun with itself. As the title suggests, everything that can go wrong does go wrong, including the kids’ efforts to come up with solutions to their problems. While adults are present in the story, they don’t play an active role in saving (read: attempting to save) the day. Some know what’s going on but remain in the background; all they provide is vital information to unlock the truth, or they rely on HiLo to solve all their problems. Others are completely in the dark, such as DJ’s parents. Still others, like government workers, create the problem. Through HiLo’s story, this book raises the question on the ethics associated with artificial intelligence and android rights. Visuals-wise, it features full-color illustrations, open layouts, and minimal text. This is perfect for young readers and reluctant readers. I enjoyed this creative, light-hearted read and recommend it for fans of space adventures like the Akiko series, superheroes, humor, and aliens and robots with a touch of magic. Note: I jumped into this one without having read #1-4. While I was able to figure out key plot elements as I went, I recommend reading this series in sequential order. I am definitely interested in reading the first four books and then book 6 when it comes out!
Surprising Secrets Will Be Revealed
Review by 8 year old-- "Hilo: Then Everything Went Wrong" is the fifth book in the Hilo series. In this book, almost everything did go wrong for the characters. After four books, you will finally learn a little bit more about Hilo and Razorwark and their story. There are more things that happen in this book, and more surprising secrets will be told at the end. I loved the book! This book was better than the 4th book. Each book is more interesting because it answers more questions. I really liked how all the characters were in this book. One part I found funny was when Izzy forgot to code the replacing robot to pee and so robot Hilo and DJ never peed. Another funny part was when Polly was in school and said she's from Scotland, but she said "Sockland" instead. I really liked the ending of the story because it was so interesting and surprising. I can't wait for the next (and maybe last) book because I want to find out what's next and why Razorwark came to Earth. I recommend this book and series to anybody who likes graphic novels and a very interesting story that has surprise endings.
Written for kids, loved by adults
I have been A Winick fans simply for ages. Ever since his brilliant comic strip "Frumpy the Clown" Over the years he has written and drawn many incredible works. "Barry Ween Boy Genius" springs to mind. But I believe HILO is is masterpiece. The story of an alien robot who falls from the sky with no memory in front of some ordinary Earth kids who take him in and shelter him until his memory returns. Along the way giant robot monsters begin appear and threaten the populace. Hilo may not know who he is but he knows he has to protect people. As this delightful series unfolds over 6 glorious volumes Hilo and his friends discover new friends new wonders and that they each have the strength to be a hero. It is written for Primary Schoolers but is great exciting fun for those of who are not (that means OLD) Equal parts Thrilling Funny And Touching This series is the work of a master.
great
the stories are awesome but t h e y t a ke a b i t l o n g to come out
Mixed Opinions
My 4th grade reading buddy did not like the look of this book and was reluctant to begin, then refused to go past the first chapter. Not wanting to give up, I read the whole book, hoping to reinterest him (unsuccessfully). In retrospect would have been better to start with #1 in the series instead of jumping in to #5.

Couldn’t wait for its’ Release!
Both my sons were counting the days until Hilo book 5 was being released! Hilo was the first book that really got my younger son into reading chapter books. Even though he is now reading above the level of difficulty of Hilo, he still loves reading the books. Great series!
It is a safe read for children and lots of fun.
My grandson’s favorite book
Only book my 8 year old has loved.
Love this book series!
My son is a fan
My son is pretty bright, but we struggle to motivate him to read (he's just turned 7). He picked up book 2 of this series in the school library and really enjoyed it, so we bought him the entire set. He's read each book multiple times and is a big fan.
Another great book, loved by my nine year old. He will reread this over and over
Another great book, which arrived very quickly next day. My nine year old son was looking forward to this book coming out. He has had the previous four books from the library and he is so into Hilo now, that he googled it himself to find out if any more books... He read it all the first day it arrived. He loves the graphic novel style and the characters. It is inspiring him to read and to see him excited for the amazon delivery of one of his favorite books, is really encouraging.... What's great is that the prices of these books are very reasonable considering how much we used to spend on magazines when younger. He will keep rereading these and I suspect I will have to get the full range of books once time runs out on the borrowed library books.
Great for introduction to graphic novels.
My son (11yrs) has read all of these books uptodate, and finds the graphic novel format easy to read at length.
