Emily Post has gone to pot.

As we enter the dawn of a new "post-prohibition" era, the stigma surrounding cannabis use is fading, and the conversation about what it means to get high is changing. When it comes to being a respectful, thoughtful, and responsible consumer of pot, there is a lot you need to know. In Higher Etiquette, Lizzie Post--great-great granddaughter of Emily Post and co-president of America's most respected etiquette brand--explores and celebrates the wide world of legalized weed. Combining cannabis culture's long-established norms with the Emily Post Institute's tried-and-true principles, this book covers the social issues surrounding pot today, such as:

  •  How to bring it to a dinner party or give it as a gift
  •  Why eating it is different from inhaling it
  •  How to respectfully use it as a guest
  •  Why different strains affect you in different ways
  •  How to be behave at a dispensary
  •  How to tackle pot faux pas such as "canoed" joints and "lawn-mowed" bowls

This handy guide also provides a primer on the diverse array of cannabis products and methods of use, illuminating the many convenient and accessible options available to everyone from experienced users to newbies and the canna-curious. Informative, charming, and stylishly illustrated, this buzzworthy book will make the ultimate lit addition to your stash.

How to be Cannabis Polite and Ditch the Stigmas

This book offers excellent advice on how to be polite in a cannabis-friendly world. It gives guidance on how to navigate overlapping boundaries. For example, what do you do if you are invited to a cannabis-friendly party but you do not enjoy cannabis? What are the hosts' obligations? Or what if the party is not cannabis-friendly but you wish to consume? When is it OK to ask someone if they have consumed and when is it not? How do you respect someone's medical needs? These and more questions are answered and with just enough chemistry information to provide a comfortable understanding of what is being bought and consumed and how it is politely being done in our current society. It could be very useful to parents and teachers, even if they do not consume, to provide children with the information they need to understand what is currently known about the pitfalls of cannabis consumption and why, as with alcohol, it is best they wait until they are of age to consume cannabis legally, should they be tempted to do so. Gone are the scare tactics and here to stay, hopefully, are the facts that encourage personal responsibility. I highly recommend this book, as it encourages respect and the practice of making others comfortable with cannabis culture. No one should ever feel forced to consume but should also refrain from being judgy about others' consumption. Needless to say, all of the other issues with etiquette remain the same. Consumption must be done with dignity and sensitivity to the needs of others. This book shows you how to do that and experience joy.

encouragement to openly discuss cannabis

Interesting read about the growing acceptance of cannabis especially in green states like mine. reinforces the notion that you should not repeat pejorative terms like "weed" "pot" "dope"etc as these terms perpetuate the negative view of what is a legal substance in many places. Nothing earth shattering here, cannabis users know how to share, but remember to be respectful. interesting to leave in your bathroom or coffee table as a conversation starter.

Good taste can be a learned art.

I love this book. It removes those pesky stigmas that lurk in country clubs and thanksgiving dinners. What to do with that joint. How to tactfully deal with all those edibles and why you are dying to try a cannabis cocktail. Really? Yes indeed. Perhaps it was the good manners thing, yes dear they are important. Good taste endears you to fellow stoners. Listen yo!

really helpful!

The book makes great use of diagrams and cartoons to detail the meaning behind the text. A really valuable book I intend to gift to others!

Good manners are appropriate in every situation

I bought this as a gift and it was well-received. It's not my sort of topic, I did read it to make sure it was appropriate and now I know how to politely refuse if offered something that good manners don't require me to accept. Good manners are appropriate in every situation.

Beautiful book

Interesting and Informative

Living in a state where cannabis is becoming legal for recreational use in 6 days, this was an interesting, informative, and at times humorous read. It definitely helped in expanding my perspective on the various experiences possible and has me thinking much more proactively about what the transition from prohibition to legalization will mean in both personal and professional aspects of my life.

Excellent Book

Excellent book full of great information for today's times! A must read for anyone in the Cannabis world!

Needed information for this day & age.

Good manners & etiquette! What a refreshing read in a world just opening its eyes to the many uses & ways to celebrate marijuana. Thank you for a well written book.

Great gift, they can take it serious or as a gag

I got this a yankee swap gift (along with a joint in my legal state) the recipient was just as excited about the book as he was about the chronic.

Etiquette and a thorough tutorial

This book provides great etiquette advice, of course, and also a surprisingly thorough tutorial on all the language and products in the cannabis community. And it's amusing and lighthearteded.

Great insight on the culture and etiquette.

Great book, worth the read whether or not you are a smoker.

Thank you Emily Post’s granddaughter!

Awesome normalizing book to explain ‘tsup

A Comprehensive Primer on a Flowering Etiquette Field.

Etiquette, by its very nature, changes with the times. Cellphone etiquette, for example, couldn't exist until the invention of the eponymous device. While cannabis (*not* weed, pot etc.) has existed for millennia, its recent legalization in select areas has brought with it a whole host of etiquette questions. Fear not, lovers of both decorum and dank-ness, Emily Post has you covered! If you live in (or will be visiting) a legal state, this book is THE primer for being cultured with cannabis. With its throwback cover design and 50's-inspired artwork, Post pokes gentle fun at a time period when such a book would be relegated to bookshops reeking of incense and cluttered with crystals. Contained within are answers to many questions you didn't know you had, from gifting cannabis to cannabis-themed dinner parties and dispensary decorum. The only thing keeping the title from greatness is also its main selling point. This book deals exclusively with cannabis in legalized states, and thus doesn't much apply to those living in the remaining 80% of the states where cannabis is illegal. While I am sure this is done for legal reasons (or perhaps to give the impression that being a law-abiding citizen is the highest etiquette of all), it ignores the vast majority of people to whom most of these tips do not apply. A polar opposite set of etiquette rules are in play for those of us who reside in such areas. Delicate questions like "Do I have to smoke up my dealer?" and "When is it okay to ask my buddy for the number of his "guy"? won't be answered here. Overall, for those fortunate souls who live in legalized states, this handbook is a perfect primer on a growing field of etiquette from the highest authority. For the rest of us, however, we'll have to content ourselves with a dreamy sigh at the idea of one day having the safety and freedom to have such elegance as a cannabis bar cart in our home for guests (and not the delicate multi-hour conversational dance to find out if they're 'cool' or not).

Mighty Diamonds said it best

Pass the kouchie on the left-hand side. And don't Bogart that joint.

Fundamental Guide of Cannabis

This book is the ultimate guide to grasp the etiquette and “way” of cannabis. Lizzie Post provides an entertaining viewpoint while being courteous of the plant and the locality that surrounds it.

Wonderful book, bad shipping packaging

Book is GREAT but it was packaged in a soft paper shipping bag which is not suitable for a hard fiver book for obvious reasons and subsequently the book arrived damaged. Definitely recommend the book but don’t buy it here!
