I've already read this title as a fan translation hoping that one day this would come to us English readers and that time has come, my friends. A great story with great arcs, characters, worldbuilding and details to boot. There is almost nothing you could ask more of when it comes to this series and it sure delivers. If you aren't already a fan of the written story or haven't seen the anime, then I beg you to try it out for yourself and see what you've been missing. The only gripe I have with this product is that the translation can't come out fast enough for those who have already been following with the fan translations as there are 25 total in this series and a continuation of 5+ in the next so it will most likely be a while until we are somewhat caught up with our Japanese companions. 10/10 would read again. :)

As the reader you are in the head of Issei more than ever, compared to the anime, at least that's how i felt. Issei's more reflective and self deprecating in the light novel. Cant wait for vol.2 Jan 21.

This was a blind buy for me, I’ve never watched the anime or had any idea what this was about other than the copious amounts of boobage and fan service I’d seen from clips of the anime. I figured it would be 90% fan service and 10% story/plot, but I was completely wrong. With the place in history this series has, being somewhat of a legendary harem with a cult following; I decided I had to see what all the hype was about. Honestly this volume surprised me, there was fan service, but it actually complimented the story and only made it funnier and more interesting. There’s actually a lot of world building and lore in this volume, and I plan to continue reading to see where this ends up. The only shame is there’s only 2 volumes released at the time of this review. I read this volume quickly too, I was able to finish it in one day and I’m not much of a heavy reader. It’s a page turner, and I had no problems with losing interest or having to skim pages. It also had really good pacing. I’ve researched this series more now that I’ve finished the first volume of it, but supposedly it will become more lewd and have more fan service as the series progresses, so I’m interested in what that’ll entail. All in all, I’d recommend this to anyone who is okay with some fan service, but also wants a well thought out world, with lots of world building and lore. I was happy with the story & plot taking priority over the fan service, which was my biggest concern before reading since there’s 25 in total, but that wasn’t the case. Enjoy

A true underdog store where the guy gets the girl(s). Loved this since I saw the anime years ago and am quite happy the finally released it over here. I just hope we get all 25 volumes plus the side storys as well. Wish it was on kindle but having the physical copy I think is better.

I tell you when I heard this was finally getting released in english I almost jump for joy in the middle of a supermarket. Seriously though I'm just glad it got published in English. I've been wanting to read this series ever since I saw all four seasons of the anime, so thanks Yen Press, looking forward to reading Date A Live when it releases next year. Honestly though if I had one complaint it's that this book isn't available on kindle.

Had to get the LN's after binging the anime. The anime is one of my favorites, and the LN was equally as amazing! Don't hesitate to buy this if you're a fan of the series or just like the ecchi genre in general. You won't be disappointed! l'm about to the start Vol. 2, the only downside is having to wait for the next English Vol. to be released... 5 stars!

The product itself was great, but I'd highly recommend you buy it from rightstuffanime. The book came extremely grimy and I've had several arrive like this idk what Amazon's problem is but they will be my last resort from now on. Also the book was 4$ cheaper on right stuff but as a prime member I have same day so I was just being impatient. TLDR: Great book, but buy it from rightstuffanime because Amazon gets them filthy.

I bought this book to support the creator so he could make season 5, very good light novel and if you read the anime you need to read the light novels because they have something you won’t find in the anime

This is one of my favorite animes hopefully with the purchases of the english books they will make a season 5

Loved it! But I didn't like that the spine of the book was a bit damaged. When I buy anything new I want it to look clean and not damaged. I'm happy DxD finally got licensed and translated so either way, it was a good buy :).

My son was happy when it arrived.

The book arrived intact which is a plus and is just great to read for fans of High School DxD. It is amazing that it is getting officially translated into English. I hope they keep making more volumes and complete the series. So hyped for the next volume

Great book

This review is of the light novel version of this story, not the manga. Issei is a perfectly perplexed high school boy who does just about everything wrong. His pain is felt at just about every turn. Yet, for all his misadventures, he is a very sympathetic character who we cheer for in spite of himself. The plot is not completely clear nor are the plot elements are logically linked. The fantastic specifics of angels, demons and fallen seem to be made up as the story goes along. Indeed, in no few ways the story is complete hash. Yet, as messy as it is it is also great fun. Recommended for an escape. Thank you to Net Galley for a review copy.

Reading this brought back all the feelings I had for the anime. I loved reading scenes I remember from the animated series and seeing lines that were almost word for word identical. This is a must read for any ecchi/harem fans.

I bought it in person but it’s dxd so automatic 5 stars

Excelente, pra quem sempre quis a novel de DxD que nem eu, é perfeito, além da história ser um Harém diferente do comum, me surpreendi com a qualidade do produto, as folhas vieram impecáveis, sem nenhum arranhão sequer, e os desenhos da capa e dentro da light novel são lindos, pra quem quer fanservice, já tem logo na primeira página, e pra quem é fã antigo da obra que nem eu, compensa comprar para ajudar na produção da 5° Temporada do anime, e pra quem ainda não conhece a história, recomendo DMS. Até pra quem já conhece e quer ter uma nostalgia vale muito a pena, você vai dar risada e até chorar em algumas partes, a história é contada pelo ponto de vista do protagonista Issei, e como sua vida mudou de um dia pro outro, recomendo DMS.

Finally, FI-NAl-LY!!! I was waiting at least 5 years for these Novels to get at least an English translation. Not much longer and I had relied on fan translations. I haven't read anything that made me laugh so hard at times. And unlike in similar works the characters have some more depth. Given though it's still a High School-Harem-Comedy complete with adolescent humor. Despite that the plot gets more interesting as the volumes go on. The Author really created an interesting universe were he mixes different religious pantheons later on and in an great way together. I highly recommend this one for funny times though it doesn't kick of as much with just this Volume so you should definitely keep reading.

Dxd has been my 2nd favorite anime since over a year, so when it was finally announced that it was getting an official translation I was beyond overjoyed. I'll definitely recommend reading the novel to any and all dxd fans.

Is it grimey? Yes. Is it full of fan service? First page. Most importantly, is there a real plot? 100%. Under the filth, you will find purity. Behind the lechery, you will find true love. Despite the story's outright lewdness, you will find a wholesome coming-of-age story, one in which you will witness each character grow from their purest intentions and love throughout the series. If you are looking for a series that involves a perverted rom-com life of a loser in a fantasy world plagued with violence, look no further.

Ya había leído las traducciones no oficiales de la novela. Es genial tener este volumen. Está de sobra decir que soy fan de esta serie, particularmente de las novelas ligeras. El tamaño es un poco más grande de lo que esperaba porque las originales en japonés son más pequeñas, pero no representa ningún problema. Agradecido con el de arriba.
