Throughout the making of the eight Harry Potter movies, designers and craftspeople were tasked with creating fabulous chocolate-fantasy feasts, flying brooms, enchanted maps, and much more, in addition to numerous magical items necessary in a wizard’s everyday life—for example, newspapers with moving photos, vicious textbooks, and Howlers. Harry Potter: The Artifact Vault chronicles the work of the graphics department in creating vibrant and imaginative labels for potions bottles, brooms, and candy; the creation of Quidditch Quaffles, Bludgers, and Golden Snitches, lovingly crafted by the prop making team; and the stunning inventiveness used by the entire crew to create a rich, bewitched filmic universe.
Accompanying the captivating text are never-before-seen art and design concepts, unit photography, and other filmmaking secrets from the Warner Bros. archive. This striking full-color compendium includes two exclusive bonus inserts—a booklet showcasing the design of The Tales of Beedle the Bard prop and a Black Family Tapestry poster—as well as many more surprises.

Artifacts A Plenty in this Delightful New Offering in the HP Vault series
I own all of the Harry Potter Vault series and they are each worth every penny spent. THE ARTIFACT VAULT provides fans and anyone who is interested in the films and books a closer look into the conceptualization of many of the amazing, magical and non-magical objects of the Harry Potter world as depicted in the stories and how these objects were designed for use in the films. These include early concept art, illustrations, behind-the-scenes photos and many more. If like me, you are a devoted fan that just loves all things Potter, you will delight in the many tidbits of information about the process in which these artifacts were brought to the screen. For example, Ravena Ravenclaw's diadem went through several iterations before it finally made it to the big screen in its present form (one of my favorite Horcruxes btw), and the Resurrection Stone too had to be re-imagined in order to remain faithful to author J.K. Rowling's conceptualization. There is so much material here to delight fans - I had always wanted to see close-ups of the paintings decorating Hogwarts Castle and here you get to see many of them with detailed explanations. That's the beauty of this book - you can just peruse the photos if that's your thing, or you can devour every morsel of information, like me. Thanks to Jody Revenson and the publisher for delivering a winner once again!
Harry Potter: The Artifact Vault
The Elder Wand. The Marauder's Map. The Sword of Gryffindor. These items, along with so many others, are essential to Harry Potter. The film series is a visual spectacle. Every frame is rich with meticulous detail, and the wizarding world allows for some unique design elements. "Harry Potter: The Artifact Vault" contains just about everything you'd want to see close up from the films. If you are interested in production design, set decoration, or similar aspects of filmmaking then you've got to see this book for yourself. As a Harry Potter fan, I was already quite familiar with how much effort went into designing the films - but the book has so many different artifacts in such great detail that it's impossible not to be impressed. All the important artifacts central to the story are here: everything from Harry's Hogwarts acceptance letter to the the three Deathly Hallows. But you also get to see background items that aren't necessarily central to the films, but nonetheless help to further immerse the viewer in the magical world. Examples include the paintings in the halls of Hogwarts, potion collections, and the food at the Yule Ball feast. Everything is printed here in great detail for your inspection. The most common type of imagery are pictures of the artifacts themselves; although there is also plenty of concept art, storyboards, etc. The team at Harper Design did an excellent job assembling and publishing this book. Images are very clear and are printed large enough for detail to emerge. Some of the most interesting pieces in the book: - Quidditch Gear, including the Golden Snitch - Collection of Textbooks and the Monster Book of Monsters - Voldemort's eight Horcruxes - Various covers from the Daily Prophet Table of Contents Chapter 1: At Hogwarts Chapter 2: The Sorcerer's Stone Chapter 3: The Triwizard Tournament Chapter 4: Brooms Chapter 5: Food & Drink Chapter 6: Publications Chapter 7: Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes Chapter 8: Wizard Inventions Chapter 9: Horcruxes & Hallows
Stunning!
What an amazing addition to my Harry Potter collection! My daughter and I stopped everything and went through page by page as soon as it arrived. Incredible images, information and one of my favorite things is the Black Family Tree tucked away in the pocket at the end of the book! I HIGHLY recommend this for any fan of the Wizarding World!!!
A Great Book all around!
I have most of the Potter books from this series, the characters, the creatures (my favorite) -but this one-Artifacts? It has so much in it, great stuff. I borrow from it to make Potter props for my Harry Potter classes. Frame some portraits from the Hogwart's gallery etc. It is fantastic!

I already have A Guide to the Graphic Arts Department from the Stage to Screen Collector's edition and this book reminds me of that. Of course they're two completely different books, but what I really like about this book is that it gives you a close up look at certain newspaper ads and other things from the films while also giving you a description of each "artifact". I also really like the bonus insert of the Black family Tapestry from the films.
Behind the scenes of the props department
If you love the Harry Potter movies, you will love this book. It is an amazingly detailed look at what went into the costumes and props of the movies (all through the series). It takes you from the concept sketches to the final product - and it is interesting to see how costumes, and props - such as the Monster Book of Monsters - evolved from the original sketch to what was seen in the movies. The details about each characters' wand was incredibly interesting. The added removable props were interesting, but not the main point of the book. There is a small booklet style Tales of Beedle the Bard printed in runes, and then poster of the Black Family Tree that hangs in 12 Grimmauld Place. The poster is nicely detailed, but had to be folded to put in the book, making display less attractive.
Awesome book for any HP fan!
Awesome book for any HP fan! It is not a detailed account of artifacts from the movie but has a high level description/story of them and nice photos as well as some pull out props. I have really enjoyed learning how much it look to create detail for these movies.
Wife loves it!
I don't know much about Harry Potter but for $20, I had to jump on it. She loves it and shares it with her friends. She'll scan it from time to time when she's bored since there's endless content.

Highly recommended, fantastic printing quality and all the books in this "vault" series are extremely well done.
Wife is a Potter Head, bought this one for her as a gift and she loves it. She has three of the four "vault" books now and she re-reads them quite a bit when time allows. This is a great series if you're into Harry Potter, the quality of the books is fantastic and all of the ones we've bought off Amazon have come shrink wrapped and very well packaged - would highly recommend all the books in this series.

Magically wonderful book!
As a fan of the Harry Potter movies, I’m happy to add Jody Revenson’s “Harry Potter The Artifact Vault” to my library. Although I confess since I was under the impression that it was all about the paper ephemera of the movies (labels, candy boxes, etc.), I didn’t rush to preorder it. My impression turned out to be a false one, and I’m glad that when I saw the Titan Books edition of this book, I was quick to order my copy. The book is just as interesting and as beautifully put together as the other ones in the series. My favorites so far were “The Character Vault” and “Magical Places from the Films.” Now, I’m adding “The Artifact Vault” to the list. It covers what they called “hero props” or as the book’s introduction explains, the “special things handled by the heroes, which are, in fact, important to the character and story.” So in this wonderful book, I read not only about the Triwizard Tournament Cup, the Marauder’s map, and the Time-Turner, but also about the breakfasts served at the Great Hall, the music band at the Yule Ball, and the umbrellas and walking sticks used by the characters. There are chapters dedicated to publications (magazines, books, newspapers) and school documents, such as Harry’s acceptance letter to Hogwarts and lesser known ones as Hermione’s school schedule. Other props that grace the pages of this book are Lord Voldemort’s Horcruxes, wizard inventions such as the deluminator; brooms, the Hogwarts paintings, Quidditch equipment, the Pensieve, Professor Lupin’s gramophone (and records!), the Mirror of Erised and many more. The bonus inserts are “The Tales of Beedle the Bard” written in runes and a foldout poster of the Black family tree tapestry. I don’t know what the difference is (if there’s any) between the edition published by Harper Design and the one by Titan Books, but I sure I’m happy with Titan’s version and price. And if you’re a Harry Potter movie fan, “The Artifact Vault” is definitely a must-have for your collection.
This book covers the exhaustive and stealth like work of procuring real-life brooms
The Artifact Vault delves into the creative genius of the visual artists and production designers of the Harry Potter series. This book covers the exhaustive and stealth like work of procuring real-life brooms, owl cages and fabrics and designing each wizarding artifact. Chapter 6: Publications is my favorite chapter. Graphic designers Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima are brilliant! Fun facts about the publications include: The headline about the Weasley's trip to Egypt was designed in the form of a pyramid, Rita Skeeter's story about Harry and the Tri-wizard Cup was designed within the outline of the Cup and the newspapers as well as Marauder's Map were dyed using coffee. I would have loved if copies of The Daily Prophet and Wanted Posters were included.
Rekindle the flame!
Make mine #26. I loved this book. Almost enough to make me want to review the films once again. Maybe once the weather cools and days are shorter this may happen. Has been a while. These books and films were magical. The level of detail and heartfelt work that went into the films is astonishing. This book just reinforces that fact all the more. If you are a Muggle like me who loves Hogwarts, etc., this is the book for you. Well done. Point for Gryffindore.

The book is fun an all but I would have enjoyed more about the details of how they designed and made different props; it's there for some items and not for others. The close up pictures are nice though.

The boy who lived... ' 9¾
Love this book. I have been a diehard Harry Potter fan Ϟ 9¾ ⚯͛ △⃒⃘ since I was 11 years old, which coincidentally was the year Harry Potter was first released as a book. In the following 19 years I have collected everything I could get my hands on. These Vault books are full of brilliant information that all fans will love. I just love to flick through and relive it all again! Loads of pictures and information, a brilliant supplement to an amazing fandom! I especially love the little surprise pocket at the back of the books. Definitely recommended to all Harry Potter fans!
Philosopher’s not Sorcerers Stone!
Delighted with the content of the book but, sorry, irritated every time there was a reference to Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone! This book must have been aimed at American market as it also has American spelling throughout which is weird as it’s published by Titan in London.
Wow

Collectors book ! Must have !
These books as a set on a whole were around 800$ when I first spotted them few years back. And thank heavens Amazon stocked these books last year or so. I got this for 602 Rs in the sale and it is the biggest steal ever ! The book is so informative on every prop that's used and it makes you appreciate the effort the prop department of the movies has put into this movie !! You get to read and see the intricate detailing on the props (brooms wands Hogwarts, potraits, walls, clothes, www, what not !!! ) and also lot of fun information about the movies and the harry potter world in general. Additionally you get a pull out prop of the black family tree and a small booklet with the tales of beedle the bard. It's just so beautiful !! My biggest complaint is not with the content but with the quality of the book and it's condition. The cover page was scratched all over and looked so so bad ! I didn't return it purely because I was worried I might get something worse that what I had.
Lots of pictures/arts. Packed with tid bits of Wizarding World infos.
I ordered this along with the other books in this series (Character Vault, Magical Places Vault) delivery was fast. This was sealed in plastic so you know it’s new. Very good book! Filled with lots of photos/concept arts, tid bits of informations and behind the scene stuff. Book is in good condition. No dents or scratches. I also love that there’s no price sticker applied anywhere to ruin it. Only thing I notice are some random marks but they’re only visible under certain lighting/angles, no big deal. I’m guessing normal shelf wear? But overall, still happy with this book!
Awesome
This was a birthday gift to me and I really, really loved it. I have to say that after having read Page to Screen which is another HP companion book I own, I thought I already knew a lot about the behind the scenes, but this goes way more in depth about the actual graphics department and the various props they had to make. I think one of the most interesting elements is seeing the truly ingenious and inventive ways the team had to devise props so that they could be interacted with, scaled up or down, and replicated many times over. The book is a simple work which is made up largely of quotes from the prop departments heads, Mina and Lima. The quotes are blended with some information regarding the pieces and how they were used within the film, but often the images take the centre-stage on the pages. We get to see close-ups of the interiors for the Daily Prophet, packaging for sweets and Weasley jokes, and even the Horcruxes and Hallows themselves. All of the items, however small or big, play a vital part in fleshing out the plot and world and making it all appear convincing and magical on screen. I would hugely recommend this book as a companion if you have any interest in how films are made or in Harry Potter as it's definitely an eye-catching and intriguing read. I found that I read though all of this super fast and really enjoyed learning more about the sets and the teams and how all the departments worked together. I ended up giving it a 4.5*s overall :)
Magically Delicious!
The Artifact Vault is magically delicious! Often with this sort of 'coffee table' book, I look at all the pictures and only read the captions. But with this volume, I read every word. It's absolutely fascinating how much loving & crazily skilled care went into each & every aspect of making the props for these movies. Items that were only briefly seen in the background of a thirty second scene were given the same high quality treatment as those that featured more significantly. I love this book.
Spedizione super rapida e prodotto di ottima qualità!

Excellent
A must for HP fans!
Love!
HP fans get this !!!
This is the fourth book that has been released that gives an in depth look at various areas of the Harry Potter films...the first three being The Character Vault, the Creature vault and Magical Places. I just love these books. These were all preceded by Page to Screen which is a culmination of lots of info on all areas of the films. I think many people do feel that the 'Vault' books are just a copy of sections from Page to Screen but this is not the case. In these books you will find previously unseen art work and more detail and info and little unknown snippets. The Artifact Vault is no exception. There is everything you ever wanted to know about school documents, props, quidditch, the mirror of erised, brooms, horcrux's etc. It's beautifully put together and very high quality. It's certainly worth the £16.99 I paid. Now I'm slightly ( understatement ) obsessed by HP and I found things in this book that I didn't know... There is so much brilliant art work to inspire me to create more HP stuff for my collection when I've finished pouring over every sentence and picture. So if you are a true potterhead you need to get this ....if you know a potterhead then buy them this and they will love you 'Always'.
