Another home run for Molles
One great read. Spoiler alert. This one starts with Lee Harden remembering an old girlfriend. They parted ways but that was four years ago before Harden became a Coordinator for Hometown. Before the world fell apart. Present Day: Harden a dead Harden. Abe Darabie doing chest compressions on Harden. Julia the medic trying to bring him back. They had been ambushed and no one knew how the ambushers knew they were coming. A leak at Ft. Bragg is all they can think of. The trip to Alabama was known to only a few. The trip was to see if they could get fuel which they badly needed at Ft. Bragg. They had to abandoned their two pick ups and head through the woods where a running battle saw Harden shot in the chest and killed. They made it to shelter. The ambushers were hot on their trail and Brian Tomlin saw them coming. He and Carl Gilliard headed out to draw them away from Julia, Abe, Nate and Lee. They managed to bring Lee back and Julia and Nate took him out the back door with Abe going first. Brian and Carl continued to occupy the attackers. Nate knew Primals would be attracted by all the gunfire so they needed a place to hide and right now. Abe took Lee's arm and order Nate to take point and get them across the road. They made it across the road but incoming fire wounded Abe and killed Nate. Jules and Abe took off with Lee. Carl and Brian ran out of ammo and all they had were their knives. Guns pointed at them made that decision a bad one. A knife never could compete with a gun. Both Carl and Brian are taken prisoner. Carl would survive. Brian would not. Jules and Abe found a basement in a split level house. Jules cleared the house and they got Lee inside. Lee would remain unconscious for three days. Back at Bragg things aren't going well. They need fuel to keep planting crops to feed the people at Bragg. Some of those people are argumentative and flat out a pain to deal with. They call themselves the Lincolnists and anything they can do to make things difficult they will. They don't like the boxes of food they are give. They want fresh everything from Milk to meat to vegetables. Of course they won't be getting it. Angela is the President of the New Eastern States, or NES. She sure as hell didn't want the job. She has her daughter Abbi to raise after Lee Harden saved their lives. But she is doing the best job she can. Unknown to her there are spys in Ft. Bragg who appear to work for President Briggs in Colorado. Briggs imagines himself as the new President of whatever is left of the USA. So begins one damned fine read. This one has Lee, Julia, Abe, Deuce who is Lee's very loyal dog, Carl a Carl who is let loose to let the others know not to come back, a Brian Tomlin who doesn't survive, a man name Paolo they meet who knows who the ambushers were, Primals who are changing, Sam a young boy Harden saved, a Sam who will save the day when the primals get inside the wire at Bragg, Claire the daughter of Colonel Staley who is in charge of security for Bragg, a Claire who is a traitor, a Claire who left a flimsy lock on the gate at the storm drain, a Staley who is going to have to deal with his daughter once he finds a Sat phone hidden in her room, a Sat phone with one number, a number Lee gave him from Alabama, Elsie Foster the leader of the Lincolnists who is also a traitor, a traitor who has something of Taylor Sullivan and nurse, a nurse with a son who's a rapist, Dr. Trent who took a primal body and discovered it was a juvenile and everything Lee told him was true, the primals are changing, an attack on Ft. Bragg by primals that cost the lives of several people, an attack through a storm drain that Claire had used to meet with young folks, a Sam who gets to Angela and Abbi, an Abbi who is bitten but doesn't change, a Lee who takes the attack to the ambushers, an ambush that is successful until truck loads of the bad guys show up, a Lee who is now certain there is a traitor at Bragg, an unexpected group that helps lee, and old friend named Tex who has a tank and Lee Harden doing his best to deal with his inner demons, save who he can, get fuel to Ft. Bragg, survive and stay alive. Five Stars and then some. Waiting for number 2
Like A Visit From An Old Friend
After a several-year hiatus, the crew from The Remaining series is a back in a new series, The Lee Harden Series. Book one is titled simply, Harden; it is a 2018 publication. If you have not read The Remaining series prior to reading Harden, I strongly suggest that you do. I am most excited that Lee Harden and company have returned. The Remaining was one of the most engrossing and compelling series that I've ever read, and it stands out as an island amongst the preponderance of post-apocalyptic zombie media. The new series is set a few years in the future from the finale of The Remaining. Lee, Angela and many others have helped to form the United Eastern States, based out of Fort Bragg, NC. They have been able to attain a more comfortable lifestyle, though the world is still fraught with danger, both from evolved infected, and other humans, particularly those under the command of President Briggs. Fuel, however, is in short supply, so Lee and a team are dispatched southward, toward the coast, to see about finding some. The tale that follows is just the kind of fare we've come to expect from D.J. Molles: breathless, exciting, violent, and wild. Not only exciting, the plot also has a fair amount of depth, with more than one story thread. The perspective changes frequently between threads, and they are all exciting and will leave you wondering what happens next. Unfortunately, the ending is quite abrupt with little in the way of resolution (just like the books in The Remaining series!), so if you are like me, you won't be able to wait until book 2 of the series is released. Harden makes use of many returning characters, and also some new ones. Characterization is handled deftly, as you would expect from the author. In particular, Molle masterfully delves into the psyche of the characters and how they feel about and respond to living in such harsh and extreme conditions. I thought the balance of introspection to action was perfect in Harden. Several of The Remaining books were too heavily steeped in conveying the psychology of the characters, but Molles handles it perfectly in Harden. Molle is also not afraid to kill off major characters, which really keeps the reader guessing as to what is going to happen, because no one is untouchable. If you enjoyed The Remaining, then continuing on with Harden is a requirement! Bravo to Mr. Molle for crafting such a well-written and exciting storyline. Looking forward to book 2!
A perfect continuation
I LOVED this book! The story picks up shortly after the events of The Remaining. I would say it's probably not necessary to read the Remaining series first, but that series gives a lot of the background on the characters in Harden. As I was reading, every time I thought I knew what dad happening, DJ Molles would throw another curve ball and leave me shocked yet again. There were so baby wonderfully unexpected moments in this book and I loved every minute of it. The only thing I really knew for sure but the end was that nobody can be trusted. I can't wait for the next book so I can find out what happens next!
He's Back. Broken, but still bada**
Mr. Molles, dont make me go Lee Harden on you - get to writing book #2 right now! I re-read the Remaining series to get ready for Harden, yep, I'm a fan. Lee is in a bad way most of this book, I can wait to see what he can do at 100% because he is pretty amazing at, dare I say, about 25%. Lee and his team have been big underdogs from the start, and that theme remains the same here. I was worried this installment would end on a bleak note but there is a sliver of hope that finally works its way in, and boy did they need something good to happen. We did lose some major characters in this installment, true to the threats that seem to lurk every time the team heads out on their next mission, or even at home. I thought Molles did not miss a beat with the tone and feeling of the series. I did not feel like there was a break at all when I started reading. I hoped, had planned, to only read about 10% at a time to space out my excitement, but that was impossible. I finished in three sittings and now am super bummed. Lee has a war on four fronts on his hands - Briggs in the middle states, bearing down on him with all his resources. The Mexican cartel controlling the flow of oil. A insurgency at home giving away his every strategic move before its even made. And we cant forget, the Primals - an evolved, inhuman beast, as a result of the FURY infection. The odds are long, and the end nowhere in sight. But Lee only knows one direction, forward. He only knows one outcome, to win. He will never relent, never give up, never stop until all threats are extinguished. And I for one, cant get enough. Thanks DJ for a great character!!
The Remaining Universe Continues!
The Remaining series is one of my all time favorites. When it ended a few years ago, I was pretty bummed but for the most part okay with how it "ended". When I saw the announcement for Harden, I couldn't be happier. I must admit, this was worth the wait. As for the story itself, I found the first couple chapters on the slow side. Not because it was actually slow, but because it took some time to catch up to where the time jump had left us. However, once the story got moving it really took off. By about 30% in I was already hooked once again. The last 70% blew through in what felt like minutes because it was so well written and hard to put down. The way it ended just makes me even more anxious for the next novel. I can only hope this series turns into another 5+ books like before. Great job DJ. Keep up the good work.
Starts off at 80mph and doesn’t slow down!
So sorry to see the dog bite it at the end though.... I was highly critical (3 star review) of the last book in the Remaining series, as the book failed to wrap up numerous important threads. I’m happy to see DJ Molles has returned from writing all his other series to start a new series of “Remaining, the Sequel” series to, hopefully, wrap up all those threads he left unraveled at the end of the previous series. This novel is a great start. Well worth the purchase. Although several years have passed between the start of this book and the end of the last, this novel wears like you’re sliding on a pair of your favorite, well-fitting jeans. Smooth, seamless transition.
Must Read!!!
Fantastic, accurate conflict sequences with nail-biting suspense. A twist you'll never see coming. Fantastic take on this genre. Definitely a new fan of this author. Well done sir, well done!!!
And the great story continues
DJ Molles continues to impress with his novels following Lee Harden. I read the original 6 novels years ago and has started reading them again when I randomly saw that there were new novels. I picked this up and felt like it hadn't been years between when I read the initial books and was left satisfied and ready for the next one.
Best Author EVER!
No one, and I do mean NO ONE can suck you into a story like this guy! I've read a couple hundred zombie/dystopian books since this author hooked me with his first book, the Remaining. I started reading his first book when I went to bed and the next thing I knew the sun was coming up and I finished by the time my alarm reminded me it was time to get ready for work. Yes, it is just that good!
Great Continuation of The Remaining Series
D.J. Molles quickly became my new favorite author. I always look forward to his next books. My only complaint is they don't come out fast enough! I get sucked into this series and it usually takes me 2 days to finish a book. The remaining Series is a perfect mix of zombie like reading and military. I feel like the stories flow perfectly and keep you wanting more.

A damn fine book!
DJ Killed has created terrific characters and a great world for them to rumble through. The story is compelling as Lee and his cronies fight to survive.
Great reading
If you like Swagger and the rest of the great fighters you will probably like this series also. Fast reading and fun
Can't get enough..
Simply put..This series is hard to put down. One of the few to actually get engulfed into the story and elevate your heart rate with how intense the fights scenes are written. This will definitely be well missed once the series is wrapped up. So far, it has been one hell of a ride. Anxiously awaiting the next (hopefully not last) book.
Excellent storyline and great characters.
Burned through this in no time. It gripped me immediately and the pacing never let up. Great read for anyone who enjoys this genre.
Best book I’ve read!
I am a huge fan of the Remaining series and this book did not disappoint. I couldn’t put it down! There is so much intensity, it keeps you on the edge of your seat! I cannot wait to read the next book! This is a must read!!!!
when is the next one coming!
I like the series prior to this book, and i cant wait for the next one to come out. its gritty you can see that Lee's team is taking some beatings. i am glad that DJ Molles has continued the series as well. i dont think i will ever tire of reading the books prior to this one.
Phenomenal read
I began reading Molles years ago when he began the Remaining series. I have always been a fan and his writing has always been great but the man has evolved into a phenomenal talent. Hardin is a work of art, plain and simple. My highest recommendation.
Warning about this book
Did you read the Remaining series? Do you want to have the desire to read it again? If so then read this book! Another masterpiece by DJ Molles. I had a hard time putting this book down and it made me want to reread the Remaining series. I can’t wait for book two!
Done it again
Fast paced and brutal extension of the Remaining universe. Harden is as badass as ever and the story continues to unfold. Twists and turns throughout. Can’t wait for the next one!
Read them all!
This series as well as the previous are top notch. Great writing, characters, and story. Lee is a force of will in the world. Well done.
Finally
It's so good to return to the world of Lee Harden. I purposely saved reading this book until the holidays and was not disappointed. These books are so well written and engrossing - I cannot wait for the next installment.
Remaining
Love reading everything about your series. I'm buying the next book ASAP. Thanks again for the great read. Loved it
Another great bpok!!!
I recently stumbled upon the Harden series. I have previously read the preceding novels. There was no let down. Molles did his usual great job of blending action and drama. Can't wait to read the next book!
I named my dog Captain Lee Harden!
Molles is the best ZA author in the genre. Period. Keep them coming DJ! I have to see how it plays out. But never really let it play out because I want to read your series forever until the real ZA anyway!
Overall, this is a good continuance to the original story arc.
It’s been several years since the outbreak of the FURY bacterium. A new loosely connected alignment of states has established itself as the UES, The United Eastern States. After firing up the nuclear power plant nearest to their base at Fort Bragg, the team realizes that to keep civilization running they are going to need fuel. The team sets off on a mission to the gulf states to try to reconnect the pipeline. Various enemies are against them at every turn: the infected, the newly-evolved primals, factions within the UES, the past President’s forces, and many other new ones thrown in. This is Molles tried and true style. It’s a narrative filled with survival, military tactics, and power plays. I was a bit put off by some of the nightmare sequences Harden has in his sleep. Yet, I did think the multiple POVs in this one was intriguing, especially when the reader is put in the mind of one of the primals. Overall, this is a good continuance to the original story arc. There are some flashbacks to provide background and to help readers remember some of the key past conflicts, but I would say it is necessary to read the first series to understand the characters and situations fully.
You wont regret reading this book!
Laughed, cried, and was pissed. That's just a few of the emotions I had while reading DJ Molles! Awesome series. Thank you
Glad to see the return of Lee Harden
Of all the post-apocalyptic books I've read (and there are many) these are my favorites. Non stop action from cover to cover. Looking forward to the next installment and hopefully many more after that.
Another good one.
I’ve been a fan of DJM for a while now. This book didn’t disappoint. An interesting plot twist takes place and I loved it. If you’re a fan go for it.
Excellent exciting story
Dj picks up right where he left off with another exciting harden story. Well written story that I couldn't stop reading. I'm looking forward to the next harden book.
Good read
Nice story, but will not buy more in this series.
Another Great Ride
I loved this one every bit as much as all the books preceding it in the series. Great pace and story. Cant wait to read the next one.
Series definitely worth reading
One of my favorite series. Characters are realistic. They are flawed but continue to struggle to do right thing when faced with some bad choices.
Lee is back.
If you are a Lee Harden fan, this book will not disappoint. If you're not one yet, you will be after reading this book. Now the worst part of is waiting for Book 2 to come out. Write faster DJ.
Awesome
It was great. Full of action and intrigue. I couldn't put it down once I started! All I want to know is when can I get the next one?
Love love love
Absolutely love this series. Will read again and again. I want Lee to finally relax . cried ....again. I am so happy for the allies
The best book in the series so far!
The best book in the series so far, and the previous books were great. Continuous action, edge of your seat stuff and the twists just keep on twisting!
Great book
Just as good as the rest. Harden is back! Couldn't stop reading, fast paced with a ton of suspense. D.J. Molles is a master storyteller.
This was awesome
It picks up after the last of the remaining books. It keeps going with the remaining universe and I can’t wait for the next one.
Awesome book
Same Lee Harden story and well worth the money. I enjoyed the action and forgot how horrible the infected are.
Awesome!
If you’ve followed The Remaining series, this book will be everything you hoped for! I’m always amazed by this wordsmith’s story craft. You will not be disappointed. Lee Harden is the baddest motherf@#*ker on planet Earth.
Great book!
Love this series! I hope it never ends, Molles is a fantastic storyteller. Th remaining series is my absolute favorite.
Gripping
Great read. Intense. I did not want to read a zombie apocalypse book, but this series is a great twist to the genre.
Its been too long
Loved everything about this book. One of the best writers if not the best of this genera. Its fast paced, the author doesn't waste time filling pages with irrelevant points such as describing what people ate ad nauseam etc. Everything is relevant and you are literally sucked into the story. Please let us know when the next instalment is due
Great read once again.
Couldn't ask for more action and excitement than what you will find here. Can't wait for the next installment to see where they head next
So, so good!
I’m so happy to get a glimpse of the world a few years down the road from the remaining series, and of course more Lee! Cannot wait for the next book! Hope it comes soon. Thank you for another amazing read.
Interesting!
The book held my interest throughout the story.
Excellant author and storyline
Excellant author and storyline
Worth the read
Great book. Can’t wait for next installment
Great addition to the series.
Love the Lee Harden series.
Great book
Great continuation of the series.
so glad to have them back
AWESOME
Another Really Good Book
I like the story line in all of DJ Molles books. Hardin is another episode in the lives of survivors. I like DJ Molles writing style; interesting with a lot of action. I will be preordering the next one too.
Lee Harden is back!
So excited to see one of my favorite characters of all time return. Another great novel from DJ Molles, just like the rest.
Amazing
If you're a fan of DJ Molles, this may just be his best Remaining series addition yet! By far my favorite author. I get everything he released when I can.
Awesome book
Great entry into The Remaining universe. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Lee is still as hard to kill and the story into the rest of the team was nice. Deuce is still my favorite character though.
A must read!
I read through this in a matter of days and I can not wait for the next book. Adrenaline action packed adventure!
The remaining continued
Dj keeps the entertainment coming! If you're a fan of the remaining series then you'll definitely enjoy Harden.
WOW
I have read and re-read all the books in the remaining series. I cannot put them down ,and anxiously wait for the next one to come out!
DJ is the Man!
The remaining and now the start of the Harden series is probably one of my favorite reads of all time. I highly recommend reading these books!!!!
Best one yet!
Loved it! Constant action from start to finish! Couldn't stop reading.
DJ, Dude...
It only took a couple of minutes to immerse myself back into the world of Lee Harden and his group of survivor-warriors. Once again, I found myself captive to the story, breathless, and horrified all at the same time. Occasionally, I put the story away for a few minutes to catch my breath. Molles knows how to weave a story in a believable fashion. He convincingly tells the story of Lee's struggle to take care of his people while maintaining his humanity as he battles not only the "primals," but the evil that humans force upon each other. All the while, Lee carries this thought with him: "We are born surrounded and spend our lives fighting to the death." It certainly appears to be the case in this new world. I was incredulous at the ending and, of course, left wanting the rest of the story. I wait as patiently for the next installment as Lee waited for instructions while in his bunker the first time I ever met him. Well done, sir. Well done.
Amazing
Awesome read couldn't put it down. Cant wait for the next book! Characters and story surpassed my expectations well done.
Another star shines in the universe!
We waited patiently for Lee to return and now he's back! Still fighting, still kicking Primal butt! Still tough as nails. But tired, so tired. My heart broke many times as loss had to be faced. I cried as we said goodbye to people who were part of our lives if only on the pages of a book. I was right there with the team during the heated battles having to read page after page feeling like I had to get them through, like I couldn't stop reading unless they were safe. I feel so connected to these characters! I feel their fear and their loss, their courage and their despair. And their determination... DJ Molles has a great talent for spinning a tale that shocks us with its violence, grabs us with its grit and envelopes us in its sad heart wrenching brutal truth of what could happen. The part that was the hardest for me to handle? The last page...now we wait again for the next time we see Lee Harden and his team we have grown to love.
Lee Harden is BACK!!
DJ Molles writing is phenomenal as always! I can't wait to find out what happens to Lee and the rest of the group!
Great read
Great read from beginning to end! Ready for the next one!!
Great read!
Can’t wait for another one!
Exciting and Thrilling
I love the edge of your seat excitement, but dislike that I have to wait for the next book.
Great continuation
Great continuation of the story. Never lost pace and excited to see the next in the series.
Loved it.
Loved it. The saga continues.
Great book!
Write a follow up soon!
Hardin livws
Good book can’t wait for next one
Lee Harden Sequel Part 1
Harden picks up where The Remaining series left off. Lee and his friends in the United Eastern States are still struggling to survive and danger lurks around every corner and even from within their own base. This is mostly a military type thriller with very few primals or infected to be found within the pages. While some may like that and I liked the book overall, it lacked some of the intensity of the books from The Remaining. I hope that book 2 in the series is more of a return to form. While it was a decent read, Harden 1 was a book that just felt like it was building up to something. It overwhelmingly felt like a book 1. Not great but a necessary read before we hopefully get to the good stuff. Maybe 3.5 stars but rounded up to: 4/5
Captain Lee Harden!
I received an early review copy but this book was so good I bought it anyway. Let's get started. Captain Lee Harden! This book starts out with the action and horror in full force. Dj Molles has an amazing talent for making characters that are real and that the reader really cares about. I loved reconnecting with the characters from the Remaining and seeing and going through all of their struggles with them. This book has really good horror, action, and political drama in it and is a must have for any Remaining fan. I'm excited for what's to come.
Best Book so Far
** spoiler alert ** One of the absolute best so far! I have so much to say about this and there's no way to avoid the spoilers. I actually shouted when the cartel killed Brian. I was very upset about losing Nate as well. This story just kept picking up steam as it went along. Lee keeps dishing out more beatings than he is taking by some miracle. The fact that there is now a resistance in the Greely safe zone under the nose of Briggs makes me feel elated, but I am very curious what the Colonel will do with Claire's betrayal. There is so much to digest and I am very happy i held onto this book until now so I can jump right into Southlands! George R.R. Martin can eat his effin heart out. No one kills off characters quite like D.J. Molles. Nick Sansbury Smith is damn close though lol.
Addicting and Thrilling
Lee Harden is back, and The Remaining universe is growing in this latest novel as new territory is explored, more complicated scenarios are uncovered, and threats both living and reanimated are still continuing to drive our hero and his entourage into more difficult fights for survival. I was thrilled when I finally had this book in my hands and it did not disappoint! Get yourself a copy immediately if you don't already. Just be prepared to be entirely immersed in this plot and character development once you do, as you can take my word for it, you will NOT be able to put this down!
It's good to have ya back!
Having devoured numerous "zombie" series, I am pleased that Mr. Molles decided to return to Lee's tale. Well written books in this genre are always a fun read and it seems that Mr. Molles enjoys his work (not to mention being good at it!) He has found a perfect balance between action and scene setting, while at the same time giving us good dialogue and fairly realistic character development. Here's to hoping this continues through a few more books!
Can't wait to review this book
I haven't finished reading this book but I can't wait to review it. This is one heck of a good book. Miller has a knack for getting inside the heads of his characters that makes this post-apoc book well-nigh unique. The characters are incredibly believably authentic. The language is as strong as it needs to be to make that happen. You can feel the fear, the sorrow, the rage, the love these people feel. I somehow will find a way to finish so I can leap into the next one.
Feels great to be back...
I am a big fan of The Remaining series. I was sad when it ended. It was just ones of those universe's that you want to stay in for as long as possible. After reading Harden I feel like I am back home again. I did not blaze through this because I did not want it to end so quickly again. I savored the story and felt reconnected with the characters again. It is a great book and I am anxiously awaiting to find out where the story goes next. Thank you for letting me return to this great world.
Whens book 2 out?
Great read! I was disappointed that some of the reviews had some heavy spoilers. That being said it was a great addition to the original series. Characters held true and the story was well written. When the last book ended I knew there was more stories from this world that I hoped would be written. I look forward to book 2 and the rest of this series! I would read the other series first otherwise you will be wondering what is going on.
Page turning book as always
This new series has a dynamic background story. If you haven't read the Remaining series I recommend you do...in fact read every book this guy has ever written! Now to the book...This book (series) can stand on it's own. I couldn't put it down and further more I had to read it again because I missed details because I just had to find out what happened next!!! I recommend this book and all of Mr. Molles books in the strongest of terms!
Awesome!!
First off if you haven't read the series that started it all, The Remaining, you need to go back and read them first. This book was great!!! Had the the same tone and cadence of the first books. The action (that Molles is known for) is back and possibly more intense, at one point I thought I was going to pull my face off! I am geared up for the next one which can't come soon enough!! The only downside is that I am left hanging!
Harden is baaaack!
DJ Molles is one of my favorite authors and this series has not yet jumped the shark. Is it a bit unbelievable that one man can suffer so much injury and still go on....yeah maybe so...but it is not like he pops up after taking a gunshot to the chest and starts karate chopping his way through enemies. Molles character Harden is my favorite dystopian character of all time. Read it and you will be thrilled and anxious to get to the next book.
Disappointed
I looked forward to this book based on the comments by other readers. Unfortunately I found the book a waste and didn,t finish it. For starters it seemed I came in the middle of a book and had no idea what transpired previously - and it went downhill from there.
Excellent Series!!!!!
I'm a HUGE fan of the "Remaining" series. Do yourself a favor and order ALL of them right now, you will NOT be disappointed. Mr. Molles continues this series with "Harden" our military hero from the former "Remaining" series. Harden is an excellent novel, and like a previous reviewer I wish I could've read it slower, but it was SO darn exciting!!! I also must admit I have a fondness for the author seeing he lives in Iowa and I live in the neighboring state of Mn. I give "Harden" 5 stars, and one of my highest recommendations!!!!!
Can't get enough!!!!
Another amazing book in the Remaining series. D.J. Molles has put out some of the best books I have ever read. Harden, is no exception. From the first page to the last it is an edge of your seat journey. Outstanding character creation makes you feel as if they are real people, not to mention the technical aspects are on point! A must read!
Great continuation of the remaining series.
Exciting and heart wrenching, with excellent detailed descriptions of characters, group dynamics that at times were funny. A very well versed, intuitive and descriptive author revealing a very complex story with relating sub-plots and unique evolution of the initial protagonist as well as the complex and intensely interesting political intrigue. Either one, alone would have made for a great storyline. Taken together with all of the character development and the other groups could have become unwieldy, forced or left incomplete, but this author balances all of it through each book as well as maintaining it through the entire story line masterfully. Thank you Mr. Molles for sharing your unique gift. These books are an absolute joy to read and very informative.
Read This Now.
When I found out D.J. Molles was returning to Captain Lee Harden from The Remaining I was veritably fanboy happy. Book 1, "Harden" does not disappoint. Non stop action. Surprises aplenty. Numerous cliff hanger endings. If you read The Remaining series you should be reading Harden right now. In fact, I'm going to go re-read it now.
I’m so so tired
There isn’t a moment of rest for any character in this series, just like the Remaining series. Lee won’t stop and as battered as he is, his truffle within his mind is what will make this series good or bad. I’m in for the ride, though. Everything Molles writes is gold.
Decent spin off story line for fans of this series.
Overall, a decent start for a spin off for fans of Lee Harden. The beginning of the book was a bit slow for me but, if you can work through the first part of the book, things pick up.
Awesome spinoff from The Remaining!
DJ Molles does it again with great pace and exciting side adventures of Lee Harden, the hero of the broader series. I love DJ Molles writing style, it makes it so easy to read with a great amount of descriptiveness as well as technical details which doesn't get people questioning the authenticity of situations, but lets you relate it to the real world and real places.
YES! Harden is back!
I absolutely loved The Remaining and Harden is an awesome continuation. I'm so glad DJ Molles brought this back. It ranks up there with ARISEN, the Extinction Cycle, and Slow Burn. Please don't ever stop writing this series!
Amazing
Loved this book! Captain Lee Harden is someone you can't and don't want to stop reading about. His world is frightening and interesting at the same time. The people he is in charge of keeping safe are his family even if not by blood it's loyalty, it's a job, it's freedom, it's life, it's death sometimes, it's who he is. A river.
Great beginning
DJ helped introduce me to this genre and still is one of the best . This new series promises to take up where he had paused before. It is always great to get old characters back. Well written with good characters and story development. I was barely able to put this down.
Back in the thick of it!!
It's great that Molles has released a new volume in this saga of survival. I'm listening to it as an audio book and the narrator really brings it to life. Riveting drama. A must read for anyone who enjoyed the first series based on the character of Lee Harden.
Absolutely awesome!
I have been impatiently waiting for this the newest addition to the Remaining series and I can say that it was well worth the wait. It was a great read that brought me to the edge of my seat several times and I can't wait for the next chapter of this adventure.
Lee is back.
This follow on to the Remaining series is a great read. The characters are very well developed and you get really emotionally involved with them through a great plot line. The editing is excellent. Well paced. Only problem is I want the next book now.
Hurry Up with the Next Book
I was fortunate enough to be sent an advanced copy of this book and I ordered a copy to keep on my shelf but I had to read it again to make sure something wasnt added from the advanced copy.. lol.. Once you start reading this book you will not want to put it down until you are done. Hopefully the next book is coming out soon. Pick this book up and order the Remaining Series if you haven't read them, you will not Regret it. Keep up the good work DJ Molles!
Excellent
I’m so happy that Lee is back! Harden is just as good, if not better than The Remaining series. DJ Molles does a great job of bringing back familiar characters and tying them in with this new series. I cannot wait for book 2. If you enjoyed The Remaining, then this is a must read!
Such a amazing storyteller!
DJ Molles is just a natural born storyteller. I think it’s rare to find an author that weaves such a perfect mix of character development and plot driven action. The Remaining series and now with Harden, Molles gives an action packed book without getting too bogged down into the existential nonsense that goes with some story lines. At no point does it feel like he is forcing the story line, it all just simply flows as you read along. I will continue to read anything he writes but I will always have a certain love for Lee.
Excellent book!
The author has done an excellent job continuing the story of Lee Harden. It is good story telling at its finest! I'm so happy to see the Lee Harden story continue and hope there's many more sequels.
Phenomenal
Another excellent book by DJ! I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. I can't say I'm surprised due to the fact that all his books are that way. I highly recommend this and every other book DJ has written.
Action packed story
This a great follow up to Mr. Molles Remaining series. See how the UES is scraping by and how dealing with survival takes such a toll on everyone. I can not wait for more.
Great continuation of the Remaining Series
The Remaining series is among the best tales in the Zombie/viral monster genre and this is an excellent continuation of Mr. Molles story. Can't wait for the next.
So good
So good, I guess this is something of a spin-off of the remaining series, which is still my favorite zombie apocalypse series.
Heck of a rollercoaster ride!
This is D.J.'s best book thus far! Lee Harden fans prepare for the amazing journey to continue. I can't say enough about how good this book is. This is the kind of book you feel a loss when you finish it and the ride is over.
Molles & Lee Harden didn’t disappoint at all!!
I loved it! Picks up after The Remaining and didn’t disappoint. I was halfway through and ordered Southlands(Book 2)! Suspenseful and action packed! Definitely worth every dollar! I’m a fan of DJ Molles and LEE Harden!
Great continuation of the Remianing Series
Just finished rereading the entire series. I decided to reread all of the books because it had been so long between the last Remianing book and this one. I forgot how great these books are and this one didn’t disappoint either. Can’t wait to reward number 2!
Lee Harden
I remember reading the series with Lee when he was in his bunker. This was a great series and this book picks up were the original left off.
Highly Recommend
Amazing reading. I could not put this down. I dont want this series to ever end.
Molles does not disappoint!
Part of me was ever so slightly concerned that this new series would fail to compare to the gripping greatness of the remaining series. My concerns were quickly put to rest. It is a must read however I would highly suggest that you read all of the remaining series 1st if you haven’t already. Buckle up.
A great adventure!
I love this book! I only put it down to catch my breath from the action. Treat yourself to anything DJ Molles writes!
Action from start to the beginning of the next book
I have read a lot of DJ's books they are all great. Wish the publisher would put them in bundles more often
Well done, just as exciting and gripping
Great kick off to the follow up series to The Remaining. DJ Molles does a great job setting this new chapter and makes you look forward to the next one. Though you don’t need to read the first series (The Remaining) to start this one, I highly encourage it. Excellent read, can’t wait for the next.
Harden is back!
Typical to Molles work, this book was hard to put down. I was bummed when it ended, knowing there would be some wait for the next installment. Keep up the great story telling Mr. Molles!!
once again i am finished and will have to suffer until the next story is told!
when i finished the remaining i was sad. i hoped the story would evolve. i am glad it has finally happened. cant wait for the next one!
Lee Harden is back....Yay!!!
Soooo glad he’s back!!! It makes me want to re-read the Remaining Series. Good story...great writer. Can’t wait for more!
Loved it
I loved the remaining series this is an excellent continuation to it. Can’t wait for the next book already! Captivating storytelling
DJ does it again. Such a good read!
I am a big fan of DJ Molles and his storytelling; especially in The Remaining series and now with Harden. Once again, he does NOT disappoint.
Should be made into Netflix series!
I loved the Remaining series and Harden did not disappoint. Looking forward to part 2!!
GO LEE
I have been following mr lee harden for a while now, these books just grab you and make you care about these people. Great read
Lots of action
Needs an ending
Great book
Great story exciting, lots going on. Hope to read the next book soon.
Great
Great
Just another zombie book.
Nothing original here.
I enjoyed the whole series and this book didn't disappoint.
I have enjoyed reading and rereading all the books in the Remaining series.
Great from page one.
So glad to see the series return. Pucks right up from page one. My only complaint is that I found the first series after a majority of the books had already been published, so now I have to wait for the next books in the series.
Great seeing the new series: The Remaining's Harden returns
Love seeing the return to the The Remaining universe and this new series start is all you would expect from DJ Molles. Worth the read.
Fantastic series
LOVE LEE HARDEN SERIES, LOVE THIS BOOK
Great continuation
Wonderful follow book to the Capt. Lee Harden series and a must read if you like the series.gotta read this one.
Great adition to the series
This is a good read, highly recommend if you enjoy this genre.
Awesome continuation of a great series
If you want a different kind of apocalyptic story, D.J Molles has two series for you. First The Remaining is a beautiful series. Now with Harden, it's an absolute beautiful addition to the world he created. I know at some point everyone wishes for their favorite fantasy world to continue on and here we have it.
Long live John!
While series is great! I can’t wait for the next!
good pace, needs a proofreader
passed and past, there and they're. i know, homonyms are hard. other than that the story moves along well. not a ton of internal monologue slowing it down
Harden - Another winner from D.J. Molles
I really liked this book just like ever book you wrote. Hope you keep writing the Hardel series. Thank you.
Other great book in the Remaining/Lee Harden Series!
Other Remaining/Harden series book I could not put down.
finally
Great return to the series. Fast read.
Spectacular! Another incredible book by DJ Molles
Lee Harden is back baby!!! Nuff said.
True to form.
The saga continues. The group continues to adapt and survive. What a story! Can't wait to see where this takes us!
Very good books
Best written series I've ever read
Couldn’t set it down.
Action packed adventure! The infected have to take a back seat to the human anamal now. But now we have to wait for the next installment which cannot come soon enough.
Five Stars
Glad that DJ Molles is back in the Harden type books. Much better.
Readable
It will do when you need something to read. Molles is a great writer and these are sold characters, I may finally be getting burned out on this genre
Great Series
Like the series. Best " Zombie " books out.
Amazing addition to "The Remaining" book series
A great read that kept me wanting to ready more! CPT Lee Harden is one of my favorite book characters! I highly recommend you read "The Remaining" series before this book.
The plot thickens
I am torn between the subplots. A lot going on here. Really interesting and believable. Let's see what the future holds.
A thrilling adventure from start to finish!
I had read all of "The Remaining" books and I was hoping that another book in that universe would be written. Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book.
Great continuation!
Loved this whole new take on this book!
A great read
I have read the complete series. Actually it was the reason I got a kindle. Great plot from day one and thickening. Long wait but totally worth it. Highly recommended.
Gift
Got it for a friend and he loved.
Awesome
Great book, addition to a great series.
Excellent!!!
Excellent like all the series
Great book
Absolutely loved The Remaining but the ending pissed me off. This book fills the gap
Pulse pounding action
This is the best writter of any undead series out there. If you are looking for nonstop action, Lee along with his team an his trusty dog will take you along as witness to their fight for survival.
Good read
D.J. Molles is a great storyteller!
A+++
Amazing as always👏🏻 loving the continuation of lees story. Cant wait for more! I recommend this series to anyone in post apoc. Genre
Absolutely great book.
Great book. Can’t wait for the next book in the series. DJ Molles has really become one of my favorite authors. Well written and easy to read.
Lee Harden is back!!
Jesus where do i begin? If you read any of the Remaining you know exactly how hooked you were and how you will be. Book 2 can't come out soon enough
A great book for anyone who enjoyed the remaining series
I'm glad see another book taking place in the remaining universe, it a fantastic series and I look forward to the next installment.
AMAZING!!
Such an awesome start to a new series! DJ Molles is amazing. It’s like I didn’t put the last book of The Remaining down.
Awesome
From start to finish a great read! So nice to be back in the mix. I am already wanting the next book!!
Absolute thrill ride!
I was taken right back to the excitement of the original series! Can't wait for the next installment! Hurry up!!!
Very good read

Wow
This contains the same gripping action as his past works but new adventure. I cannot wait to experience the next mission.
So so
Expected little more
Harden deos it again
I was a huge fan of the Remaining Series and love that DJ has continued the story of Harden.
Loved it
Very good series!!!
DJ Molles is amazing!!
I love the author and this series (the Remaining) I've read it in its entirety 7 times
Great "reboot" to an amazing story.
Starts off years later and a great story line in keeping with the original books. Never count CAPT Lee out!
not a bad start to a story
This is a good start to a good story, but I find, at this point it is lacking some origin for the infection… maybe the next book?
Interesting. I left up in the air at the end the last book.
It was an interesting book. I enjoyed the characters. But I was disappointed that the books were not more standalone. I felt like I was left up in the air so I would have to buy the next book. I would have bought more books had I not feel compelled to.
