Still can recite it, 12 years later... When walking through a toy store, the day before today....
Favorite of my daughters when they were little - one of my go-to books for baby showers. Very good message - unfortunate that people here are criticizing it for not having any one of color in it when the whole message is inclusivity - there are 2 whole people in the book and one only appears once! Next thing you know, men's groups are going to get upset that men are not represented because neither character is male.
Great Book on Diversity
My kids love this book. The story is great. The illustrations are great. You can see why it's won so many awards. Crayons in the same box find that they're at odds with other crayons of different colors, but when they begin to color, they have an epiphany that forever changes them.
Great book
This book is great and it is hard and sturdy. I love the size too, just anlittle smaller than the average hatd book, which is nice! I always loved this book and I am happy to have my own copy to use in my classroom now.
Book about talking crayons
I purchases this book originally to go with my Master's class. However, it was to cheesy. It is about a box a crayons that don't get along, and finally they see the little girl coloring with all of them and they see how pretty it is, and they all get along at the end of the story. This book would be a good fit for Kindergarten, Preschool, and maybe 1st grade.
Friendship and Harmony
The pictures were nice and colorful. I liked everything about the book. I plan on reading more. But not tonight.

I love this book for my kindergarten class and when I moved states it wasn’t available in our school library. I am happy to have my own copy. I use it at the beginning of the year and again around MLK jr. day.
Very Sweet Story for Little Ones
I bought this book as a gift for my 3 year old son. I was looking for a story that was simple, colorful and had a good lesson. This book completely fit the bill. He loves pointing out the colors of the crayons. The story is the perfect length for my son's very typical 3 year old's attention span. The morals of the story, respect and teamwork, are translated very well. Both the author and the illustrator did a wonderful job.
Beautiful lesson
I made a lesson plan on this book and the third graders loved it! My 5/6 and 3/4 year old love it too- so I would say it's a good book for many age groups

Love it great price
Read this to my daughter when she was a child. Bought it for her(she’s 21). Very good quality! Came quickly!
A must-read for all ages!
I originally found this book when my sons were younger. I recently shared it in a college course on comparative religion. It is not a religion based book, but it is about appreciation and respect for others. Many of the adults enjoyed the colorful pictures and the greater meaning of it and shared it with their own children. I think it's a must read for all ages - a reminder that we are all special and can make the world a better place by working together.
One of my favorite books!
This is a beautifully written story about acceptance and being open to others. The crayons who think they are the most important color, learn that the pictures are more beautiful . . more complete when all of the colors are used to make them. A definite MUST HAVE in any library. ((perhaps more grown ups should read this story!))
Great book!! Was my kids favorite when they were little
Love this book!!! bought for baby shower
One of my son's favorite books
I probably bought this book four years ago at a yard sale when II misted up reading it. I then bought the hardback. Its a short, cute book with a simple message about how much brighter the world is when we all get along and embrace our individual contributions. After all of these years, its still one of our favorite bedtime books, and a frequent gift. As good as the Giving Tree, but feel good.
Great book for parents and teachers for accepting others!
Loved the story, the pictures, colors.

Using to set the tone for my classroom and begin a dialogue that we are all unique and have different qualities but together we make a fantastic grou;p.
Adorable book about acceptance and friendship
This book is one of my favorites! It's well written and easy to read out load. It rhymes and flows from beginning to end, while incorporating a great lesson about accepting others and embracing those who are different from you. The illustrations are very colorful and detailed, keeping any child's attention. Every time I look at this book, I see something new in the toy store pages.
Great book with suttle life lessons.
An old favorite of my grown children. I have purchased for a friends little ones.
Great story!
Loved the book and it’s message, we turned it into a class play.

Last page gone????
I just used this book with my church. I have used it many years in the last 20 years. The last page is missing in this copy. Very dissatisfied,
Weird book
This book was written/published upside down. It's still readable and my students laughed about it....but it is upside down...and they sold it that way.
Disappointed
Obviously not disappointed with the book, just the way the seller mailed it..... I just opened it 20 min ago and this is what I see. It most def is not 'new' to the look. Disappointed :/
Must Buy for Life Long Lessons!
Great Story to teach that all are important, everyone matters and has something to contribute!
Love this for children and adults!
This book is great for use in schools and counseling groups. It bring home the importance of celebrating our differences and highlights the beauty of bringing them together to create a beautiful world!
Nice book!
Nice story! Kept my 3yo, and others in her classroom, engaged. She even asked for it days afterwards; prompting me to buy it!

My son loved this story and I think he wants me to read it all the time!
Great book
This book was a perfect way to talk about diversity to small children. Since it is a board book it was great for them to retell the story and "read" it to each other. I would recommend this book for preschoolers to kindergarten,
A keeper storybook
Loved the story. Great for teaching about relationships. Artwork great! Used in my classroom with a crayon them.
A++
Presented with engaging pictures, and fun dialogue
Not what I expected
This item is not what I expected it is not a The Crayon Box that talked..it is a book that you have to read . I am nit satisfied with the product.
Almost rated it 5 stars.
The story is very cute, and easy for kids to understand. The pictures are fun, bright, and colorful. However, what I don't like is, on my Kindle, the pictures are really small. I was hoping the picture would fill the screen, like other books. I was trying to read it to a small group of kids, and the children had to pass my Kindle around to see the pictures. If the pictures were bigger I would have given it 5 stars.
Five Stars
wonderful story for children and adults
Great book to teach about diversity
I used this book with 5-7 year olds to act out the story and discuss diversity and inclusiveness. We also did art project with pastels on black paper using lots of colors to make their picture "pop" on the paper
Great book to read for MLK Day
Great book to read about the colors or during MLK day for the kids. The children and I had a great discussion about how each individuals can be different from one another and working together from our differences.

Great book!
This works wonderfully in teaching young children respect for others. I once saw a first-grade teacher read this to her class at a time when one of her students was making racially inappropriate remarks towards another student. It helps get the message across that we are all different, and our differences are what make the world interesting. I have now purchased this to use in my own classroom.

Great for Diversity & Team Workshops
I use this story with just about every adult and youth group I speak to. I use it to build upon our diversity and how if we all get together (as the crayons do in the book) the picture is complete. This is a MUST BUY if you work with any age group. The story is so simple, yet powerful.
Teaching Cooperation
Bought this book for my daughter to share with her prekindergarten class. Love the message of cooperation and how working together can create beautiful things in the world.
Great for the classroom!
I give this one a five star rating because it's a great way to teach kids that being different is a very good thing!

Wonderful lessons for all
Great reading book for young children with wonderful lessons for all ages.
Very colorful
I loved it .it is very colorful and fun for the kids to read and look at the images .
One of my 4 year old's favorite books.
This is a nice book about diversity and appreciating differences. It could have used a bit more diversity in the human characters, but other than that, it is cute.
Great Lesson on Diversity
Enjoyed how the book embraced diversity
Love it!
I first received this book as a gift from my daughters daycare teacher. We read it every night for years. When I came across it again on Amazon, I had to purchase it. Great story and morals - but we love it for the bright colors, catchy phrasing, and of course the memories behind the book. Great price and love the hardback book (as our original was paperback).

Great for School Counselors
Great story!
Good story to teach how valuable we all are in God's eyes! We all have a part to do that complements each other!
Meh
Thin paperback book. Not worth the money. As far as the story goes, important message (accceptance and getting along) but unsophisticated in the way it's told. Better books out there. Dr. Suess' The Sneetches, for example.

We are a Box of Crayons!
This is a perfect book for young children. The story is about a box of crayons who don't get along. It addresses diversity and teaches how each one of us contributes to the whole picture. The story is simple and the illustrations are fun.

Great book for children and adults. Also great as a team building exercise. I used it as part of my professional development and staff loved it!
Great Book for my Professional Library
I am an Elementary Guidance Counselor, grades K-4, and I will use this book when I talk to students about tolerance. The pictures and rhyming will attract the younger students and the message will appeal to the older students.

Need
Great book that teaches diversity. We need it for everyone.
Great Story!
This is a wonderful book to read to children. The lesson learned from this story is very important. Like the crayons in the box every color is different. But you need to use ALL the colors in order to create a BEAUTIFUL picture. I have used it many times for an object lesson while teaching.

THe Crayon Box
A very simple book that demonstrates how we must all get along and accept each other because together we make a better world.

Great story to ready to my son but I also love this book for group therapy with children.
Box of crayons learn about being different.
Nice little book about a box of crayons who learn that being different is ok but that they can still work together to complete the picture. This would be great for k-2 classes about working together and being different but still being part of the class.
Five Stars
Great book that can be intergrated with social studies.
Great
Great book for kids of all pages. My 7 year old and 5 year old truly enjoyed reading it. Great.
Awesome book!
This box exceeded my expectations. It was short with a clear message. My kindergarten and first grade students loved it!
The Crayon Box that Talked
This is a book that I would recommend to all parents, aunts, uncles, teachers and daycare providers. I bought this book for my grandson and he loves it. He wants to read it every night for one of his bedtime stories. He loves it so much that we sat down and drew pictures of our own representing the crayon box and the uniqueness of each one. It is a must have when teaching children about the diversity of the world. You must buy this book.

Very good book and a great lesson for the young and old!
Great book to teach about getting along
It is fabulous! Great book to teach about getting along.😊
The Crayon Box That Talked
This book is GREAT. Some people may think of it as a Kindegarten book; but it is so much more. I have used it as a story starter for K, an anti-discrimation book for Middle School students, and I used it as a basis for Manners for teens. The same book took on a different meaning for each level. If you are looking for something to teach an object-lesson on differences, manners, non-discrimation, sharing, or just plain complaining this is the book.

This adorable story was a perfect way to introduce racial equality to my 3-year old. He loves this book--it's definitely one of his favorites (and mine, too!)
Excellent book!
I purchased this book for my first grade class as an example on how to get along with others! The illustrations were very colorful and the students did a problem and solution graph on what happened in the story! Definitely recommend this book, the kids loved it!

I am a 3rd grade teacher and this book is great for a quick lesson on getting along with others and the importance of being different and accepting one anothers differences. My class loved it!!
Great for ANY teacher!! A MUST HAVE in the Classroom
This is a great book. I am an art teacher and love this book for my elementary students. It is also great for lessons on social justice, as well as teaching children that we are all different but all awesome! I highly recommend!!
Nice book
I ordered this book for my back to school lesson. It arrived in time and was in perfect shape. Very cute book. I used it for my middle school multiple disability classroom.
Book for Children
What a great book for the elementary child or the grandkis (all children matter of fact). Wonderful for today!
Lovely store with an important lesson
I purchased this book as a gift (haven't given it, yet) I found the illustrations quite colorful & the story told in such a way that a child may learn what great things can happen when "everyone" learns to get along. Very pleased with my purchase.

I love this book. I have my volleyball team read it each year hoping the meaning sinks in.
great book
the book came in good condition and in time, as indicated. my students loved learning about colors and how they got along.
A Story Worth Sharing
I share this story with my students every year and they act out the story, sharing what the story is about. I love it1
Read for a Kindergarten & 1st gr art class
A great, colorful story to incorporate Martin Luther King Jr's ideals into my art class. The kids could understand the message of not judging others by their "clor".
Cute book
Cute illustrations and a good book to teach kids to accept all people and to work together. One of my favorite books to read....
Great book to teach diversity and feelings!
My first graders loved this book! They were able to see the feelings and make a self to text connections.
Not Worth The Price
Not worth the 10 bucks I paid for the digital download. The book was cute but I would have preferred a hard copy which was not available.
Somewhat Disappointed
I was somewhat disappointed in the book I received. Two of the pages were stuck together and could not be separated without tearing the pages. There was also a lot of coloring that a child had done on several of the pages. The book was advertised as "gently used". I guess I expected it to be just that. I knew the book was not a new book, but I did expect it to be usable with pages not stuck together and crayon colored all over by the previous owner. It will hard to use the book in the condition it is in for what I intended.
Based on Service
This book is not the book I received in the mail. I received one with a similar title. So, I guess am rating the service not the book.
not so good
I expected a bit more ......I was disappointed with the contents of the story. The concept of the story was nice, but not very well done.
This book also talks about respect
I like this story. It’s about crayons that have to learn to get along, in a box together. I used this book as a teacher, quite often. It teaches diversity – the fact that we’re not all the same on the outside. It talks about acceptance – being able to be with other people and work together even though you may be different. So this is a really nice story to talk about classroom community and being a classroom family. This book also talks about respect – respecting each other’s differences. Maria Dismondy, author of
A LIFE CHANGING COLORS
All the colors in the crayon box are at odds with one another. One color is prettier than the other. Another color is darker than another. Each color is simply arguing that they are the best at the expense of other colors. But each crayon was simply jusy one color. As bright and pretty as each one maybe alone, they were nothing compared to all the beauty shown when all the crayons came together and shown their true colors.
This is a great book for young children 3-7 years old
This is a great book for young children 3-7 years old. Probably best for about kindergarten age. I use this in my K class every year, and it's always a favorite. At the beginning of the book, a box of crayons does not get along. Then a little girl buys them, and the crayons work together to create a beautiful picture. They realize each color is special and necessary to create a work of art. The story rhymes and uses simple text. It's easy to segue into a conversation about how all people are unique, and we may look different but can get along, etc. It could also be used with younger children to practice color recognition.
You don't know me, fool...
Shane DeRolf, The Crayon Box that Talked (Scholastic, 1996) Cute, if not terribly above-average, book about the celebration of difference—none of the crayons in the box gets along until an optimistic child buys the box, takes it home, and shows all the colors how they have to work together to create a picture. It took the Bean quite a while to warm up to this one, but I think he's getting the hang of it now. Not sure how well it holds up to repeated re-reads, since he never asks for them with this one, but nice enough in small doses. ***
Great to tie in with a lesson for class
I read this to my first graders during African American history month and then we did a lesson on what if everything was just one color. I had them draw a picture of outside (grass, trees, sky, etc.) but they could only use one color. I put crayons in a bucket and students, without looking, had to pick one color. The point was to show them that things would not look so good if it were all one color and how the world is a better place with different colors.
Great Tool for Cultural Diversity
As a school social worker I'm using this book to talk to a predominantly African-American 1st grade class who is having problems with teasing due to being too light or too dark. After I read the book I have them hold up their pointer finger and pretend it's a crayon. I tell them to scribble on their desk with their crayon and then look at the scribbles of the kids around them. The color that is produced is the color of their skin. They see that none of the shades are exactly the same, and that leads into a discussion of why we treat people differently due to skin color. It puts a somewhat complex concept into simple terms and is a delight to read. Kids love it!
Great story about teamwork & kindness (now in board book!)
When a little girl overhears a box of crayons who doesn't get along complaining in a toy store, she decides to bring them home. She creates a picture, showing the crayons a thing or two about valuing one another and working together to create something even greater than is possible when standing alone. Colorful illustrations and rhyme combine to tell this creative story about teamwork and kindness.
A must have for kindergartners❤️💛💙💚
The next book review The Crayon box that talked This is a sweet little book. It’s perfect for kindergartners! A little girl brings the crayon box home. She truly saves the day. The book teaches how different, yet important each crayon is. It’s an easy read and flows very well.
Awesome Message
I absolutely love this book and the message behind it. I read this to my daughter when she was younger and as a Read Aloud Volunteer have read and shared this message with many children. I would recommend it to any family/teacher/volunteer wanting to teach children about diversity and how special it is to accept the differences in people.
This was my daughter’s favorite book. We read it constantly
This was my daughter’s favorite book. We read it constantly. She is now 18 years old and is finishing her first year of college. This book still sits on her library shelf where she displays it proudly!
Wow, School Library Journal has it in for this book
I read this years ago. It's cute, has fun pacing, has an incredibly weird setup, and is just a great way to show young and old alike how working together is so much better than arguing. That said, I went and looked at "My Crayons Talk", which School Library Journal touts so excitedly while bashing this little gem of a children's book. Apparently, School Library Journal has an issue with bright colors and unstilted rhyme with a deeper meaning and would prefer young kids to learn language via muted images with no conflict. Shame on them. Love this book!
Not just for kids!
We regularly use this book for team building training for teens and adults. Before "story time" we hand out crayons to the group. The participants are asked what color they would like and then are given a different color (as an example that in life you don't get to pick your gifts and talents!). And then everyone gets to sign the book with their crayon. This book is a hit with all ages and a fun way of dealing with the serious topics of respecting differences and working as a team.
One of my favorites!
I frequently use books to teach lessons (in an indirect way) to students. My area of expertise is teaching students with disabilities. For the individuals that I teach, it is important to make them think about issues -- rather than "telling" them what to think. This books lends itself to some great discussions. Recently a friend of mine used it with members of the Student Council at our high school -- they LOVED it!!! A must have...(along with Giraffes Can't Dance). J. Michael Woods, M.Ed. Teacher, Exceptional Student Education Doctoral Student, Florida Atlantic University
This book teaches more then just colors
This book is one of my favorites! First off it rhymes! Kids love that about the book! It flows nice and is easy to ready for the older kids. Plus the poem is a pleasure to listen to for the younger kids. It talks about colors while touching on diversity. It is a must have for the classroom or you own child's book shelf!
Martin Luther King would have loved this book and the lesson that it teaches
Martin Luther King would have loved this book and the lesson that it teaches. We should send it to our president.
Crayons were diverse but the people were not
I thought the story had a great message. But I was bothered by the fact that every person in the book had white skin. The message was about the crayons getting along and coming together to make a beautiful picture, so it seemed obvious that the theme of diversity should be carry out across subjects in the book. After all wasn't that the authors's intent? Wasn't the intention to have children relate the experience to their own relationships? I hope a 2nd edition of this book is made containing diverse people...once that is done it will get 5 stars from me.

extremely cute
This is a great book that my daughter's preschool actually turned into a short play done by the parents. It was too cute. We still read it regularly 2 years later.
SUPER FANTASTIC BOOK!
This book was great. While attending the TASC (Tennessee Student Council) state convention, one of our keynote speakers read us this book. This was to about 650 junior high and high school students. The kids loved the book. It is one of those books that no matter how old you are, it carries a powerful message. I am buying it for myself (36 year old teacher) and my classes.
Wonderful book with a great message!
Great book. My daughter really loved the faces the little crayons were making. I like how they all learn that working together is where it's at!
Cute Book!
When is this coming out In a board book? A great read about crayons learning to value the differences they have.
Great multi-age book!
I originally bought this book to use with a 2nd grade class, but my four year old son just loves it. The colors are bright and bold. He loves picking out all the colored crayons as I read about them in the book. This book could be read with three year olds to help them with colors. Great book - I hope you like it too!
The Crayon Box That Talked has a lot to say!
This is my son's favorite book. I used to read it to him (he's 4) but now he reads it to me...and I learn something new everytime he does. The poem is simple yet profound...it's about a box of crayons that doesn't get along until...well, read it and find out!!! It's a must have for all home libraries. Adults can learn a lot from this book, too.
This is the best book I've ever written! :)
I recently purchased a dozen copies of "The Crayon Box That Talked" to give to friends and this evening a request to write a review popped up. Interesting, for sure. (And certainly rare when an author is asked to review his or her own book.) But what the heck...here goes: "I LOVE THIS BOOK! I THINK EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE WORLD SHOULD BUY A COPY. OR TWO!"
Five Stars
Loved it
The Crayon Box That Talked
I recieved my book in great condition and within a weeks time. Was great, I have continued to order from Amazon.
Fun idea!
This is a well written book about a very cute idea. My daughter (2 1/2) loves it.
Love it!
I absolutely love my book. I read it to my students and did an activity with it for Black History Month. It was shipped to me within a week. I was very pleased with this condition of the book and cannot wait to use it again next year!
Wonderful Book About Cooperation
This book is great for children at the elementary level. It teaches about cooperation and how to get along with others.
Fabulous Story
I love this story. I think this story is so cute!! I bought this as a first birthday card and wrote a message to my niece in it rather than a paper card!! I hope she loves the story as much as I do!!
... year I read it to my students and they love it as much as I do
I have had this book for quite a while and each year I read it to my students and they love it as much as I do.
Perfect!
Perfect book for my students. Delivered in great condition.
Nice story, good service
Possibly the inspiration for 'The day the crayons quit'! A nice little story about how we can live together even though we are different. Great service from 'Wordery' - many thanks.
Colour my life
Excellent book using it as a children's talk in Scool and church about people working together
Four Stars
Nice little board book and great poem.
Five Stars
lovely book
Great message!
I was expecting more from this book especially based on the feedback on Goodreads.com. The colours and pictures are relatively done well but somehow the writing is not as exciting. The concept is good ie that only when the colours work together can they create something good and that appreciating each other's strengths is also important. This book gets a 3 star from me purely because I liked the messaging.
