The book is very thorough. It describes many different horse breeds by their confirmation with photos. It also list where they originated and what the purpose of breeding that type was for. I would have liked the horses heads to have been free of halter , bridle, & mane across their face,for it made it difficult for me to see the differences of the various breeds.

Got for a Christmas gift for 10 yr old girl. I had bought a larger encyclopedia that was nice but I returned. I felt it was too much for her age. This one seemed to have the same pics & info. Perfect size for her with great info. I’d of loved it at 20, 40, or now at 75. Very pleased with it.

I purchase this book to give to my grnaddaughter that has a passion for horses. The book became HER BOOK and she carries it all over. She loves to read and learn about the horses. It is like a horse catalog. It also has nice pictures and describes well details of the horses. It serves its purpose.

In my opinion a lot of the horse images look odd to me, like they tried to make them really clear to where they kinda look fake or photoshopped, but it could just be me being picky I guess. I kept the book in my saved items list, and saw that the price had gone down, so decided to get myself a copy again. I do love looking at the amazing variety of horses in the world and learning about them. The content is still the same great DK content, but the book is much smaller and the cover not the same sturdy quality. I am debating whether to keep this or return it and look for an older used like-new copy.

I really like this little book. It doesn't have as many breeds featured as I thought it would, but it does have some fantastic pictures of the horses it does feature. I have no purpose for this book other than to read it for what knowledge it does impart and to enjoy the pictures, and to share it with some young friends who also love horses.

What we needed in a small size for easily transporting when traveling. Excellent source for horses, their history & their breeds.

This is an awesome book for any young book lover. I almost did not get it because my daughter has so many other books with similar information. I have to say that we are learning so much about horses and the different breeds and types from this book.

it is very informational and it tell you how to understand the book. this is a must buy for horse lovers! it tells you about all the different kind of breeds and how horses came to be! were nice book.

While the descriptions can be too difficult for children, my two kids still love the pictures and everything they do understand (and can read). I read to them the more complex information and help them understand and they are very confident when they start talking about horses now. How to care for them, what to feed them and the many breeds. It's a wonderful book that any horse lover will enjoy.

My daughter loved it

This book was excellent for my 8yr. old. It contains lots of information on horses without being too overwhelming. The color photos and scale depictions of size really captured her interest. I would definitely recommend this book for kids who are not actively involved in equestrian activities but want to learn more about different breeds of horses. The one draw-back I found was that my daughter collects figurines of different breeds, and some we just could not find in the book.

My friend loved it.

This is a great quick reference book to the breeds of horses. I wouldn't suggest it if you're planning on doing a lot of background history or movement of horses. This just gives you a nice clear photograph of the horse, origin of the breed, and what it might be used for. Or a good small coffee table book for the horse enthusiast.

I got this book as a gift for my grand-daughter who loves horses and is learning to ride. It is an excellent book with great paper quality, beautiful, full-color pictures, and lots of information about all the different kinds of horses. This book is excellent at a resource for research, a classroom, a library, or like I did, as a gift for a horse lover.

Granddaughter loves horses and this is a great reference manual

This was a gift to two of our granddaughters who are taking ridding lessons, I have not seen the books and they do not live near us. However, they did say that they loved the books and look at them all the time. I do have some of the other books and love them all as reference books, except for the one on "Birds of North America" which is falling apart. I use it a lot but it started falling apart within a year. Pages 414 through 564 have come loose and some others 679 through 696. Would you know of anyone that repairs books, this needs new glueing. Otherwise the books are great.

I did not carefully read the description so I was surprised how small the book is. Regardless, it is a complete compendium of horse information and was a complete hit with my horse riding granddaughter. She picked out the horse she wants to own. Someone else will have to get that. :-D

When my 10 year old daughter - who rides and researches horses, received this book she would not put it down. The next day she excitedly thanked her mother and me for getting the book for her and said, "wow, this book is really great, there are even horse breeds I had never heard of before, I'm so glad you got it for me!" She is a voracious reader; however, this is the only book that seems to have found a steady spot beside her bed. Jon

Content of the book was very informative and in a condenced form. The book size was smaller than I thought it would be but didn't detract from the content. It has lots of great information on everything related to horsses and ponies. I would recomend it to anyone with new or old interest in equine. Btw., I love dealing with Amazon!

This is a good gift for adults and children that are new owners of a horse. It gives a broad overview that is interesting for the new owner. Good for parent and child discovery of horse breed overview.

This book was not what i expected.It was too short, too general and just too darn boring.It didn t have enough illustrations and the ones that are there arn t very good.There was not enough info on the classification of horses ex. breeds,region of living,origins,just not enough.Susan Mcbane's Illustrated Encyclopedia of HORSE BREEDS was much better---just wish i had bought it first.

The book was a gift for my granddaughter. When she received it , it was moldy and smelled. I did contact the sender and everything was taken care of. The book itself was very informative and lots of good pictures and information.
