Great Volume

Karasuno versus Inarizaki reaches a new high as the second set concludes leaving us in a 1-1 situation for the third. Really this conclusion to the second set was pretty exciting all around with Karasuno struggling hard against the new might of Inarizaki as new faces like Kita make an appearance and works in his own way to get the Inarizaki’s to stay focused and on track as they start slipping up with the comfort of their lead. Additionally, old faces like those on Karasuno such as Nishinoya begin to take the steps forward to set the stage for exciting comebacks in the future. Most effective and emotional moment for me involved Kita of the Inarizaki’s having his backstory detailed and getting the panel where someone who was always on the bench or not even on the main team was finally awarded a jersey and captain designation and we seeing the many many tears he shed after believing for so long he’d just stay as an average and consistent player who would get no recognition. I loved it and also love how so much of the team likes him. For Karasuno, was always emotional whenever Yamaguchi or Kinoshita get a chance to play and seeing if they will do something. Unfortunately, things didn’t go the Yamaguchi way for Kinoshita but he at least will get the chance to go on court one more time hopefully. In some ways I feel he also represents the same spirit as Sugawara does, folks who always play as if their time on the court will be their final one. Really hoping for big things for them all in the future. Overall great volume especially for events outside of the main trio of first years. Good art, and good bonus materials as usual.

~4 Stars This volume almost solely focuses on the game. There isn't very much character background, only some introspection and struggle and competing. We see Nishinoya getting a little frustrated, as he's focusing and trying to perfect his playing to counter the other team. We do discover that he used to be a scaredy-cat, until he learned it was a waste, which is a cute tidbit about him. It's an intense game, and they're giving all they've got to win against Inarizaki. It looks like the game will be going for a bit longer, though.
