Karasuno has qualified for the Spring Tournament! The team buckles down to practice harder than ever, but their adviser, Takeda, immediately rushes in to announce that Kageyama has been invited to participate in the All-Japan Under 19 Youth Training Camp, while Tsukishima has been invited to a prefectural rookie training camp. Overflowing with jealousy at the unparalleled opportunities presented to his peers, Hinata takes it upon himself to get in on the action and crashes Tsukishima’s training camp.

Honest to Goodness Haikyuu!!

Volume 24 continues to follow Karasuno antics in their post Miyagi Prefecture Qualifiers win. Kageyama goes off to the All Japan U19 camp while Tsukishima pursues some personal development with other students from Miyagi prefecture at Shiratorizawa, and of course, as the cover suggests, Hinata gets involved with Tsukishima. I loved this volume because it features one of the best storytelling pieces that most stories ought to try to do. By getting main characters to mingle with other characters both new and old from teams, we get to see how much our characters have developed as well as see them in a new light. For Hinata, this meant seeing how far he’s developed and seeing how far he can develop as he gets an up-close look at Goshiki, Koganegawa, Kindaichi, and even Ushiwaka. For Tsukishima, this gives him a chance to goof around with some blocking aspects with other tall guys. And on the other side we see Kageyama interact with the powerhouses in Japan including characters who are bound to show up later. Overall the content this volume focused well on Tsukishima development, and larger Hinata development. Comedy was on a high, especially whenever TsukiHina (otp) was involved, while drama remained low. Visually, manga page spreads looked wonderful. Bonus materials included two poll results, as well as dream team compositions, and the usual in between content in chapters.
